We have classified the 260 complaints from 2007 Ford Freestyle about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I was backing my wife's car in and it started accelerating without me pressing the gas, actually my foot was on the brake thank goodness. we promptly took vehicle to ford dealership and they said it was the throttle body, and that it needed to be replaced, and of course it was supposedly not under warranty. then they charged me $900 to fix it.i have since done lots of research online as well as in person and have come to the realization that there are thousands upon thousands of this same complaint for the 2005-2007 ford freestyle. i have also found that almost everyone who has had a failed throttle body has had multiple failed throttle body's as well as a/c compressor failure. *tr
I am the owner of a 2007 ford freestyle. i began experiencing issues with the car suddenly accelerating and lunging forward if the car is in drive or backward if the car is in reverse. the issue only happens when the ac is running. i've had several occasions where i would be pulling into a parking space and nearly hit a car parked in front of me. most recently it happened with the car in reverse. the motor accelerated more so than ever before. i held the brake and the car stalled. when i started the car again the wrench light was on. the car had very little power while the wrench light was on. i've taken the car to the dealership several times only to have the not so very nice man in the service department to tell me that it's impossible for the car to do the things i am describing to him. we are at the mercy of ford motor company and no-one seems concerned enough to force ford into placing a recall on these cars for this issue. i have a friend that also has a ford freestyle and it just cost him $900 out of pocket for the same issue. this is a tremendous safety issue. at what point does the national transportation safety administration stand up for the consumer and force ford motor company to recall these vehicles and fix their mistakes? it's just very unsettling that ford motor company can sell these defective vehicles and get away with not being held responsible for the product they are putting on the market. *tr
Vehicle accelerates 300-400 rpm after taking foot off brake in forward and reverse. happens 70% of the time. can cause serious injury if the circumstances were right ie, someone behind the car could be injured. dealer indicated trans has delayed engagement and in fail mode, had code u0401 eec test pinpoint test found pcm power relay making bad connection, correct condition clear code roadtest. still does the same thing but now worse happens more often. *tr
I own a 2007 frod freestyle. i have had trouble since the summer i bought it in 2010 with lunging forward and unexpected accelerations. it does this worse in the summer. i almost ran over the car in front of me at a drive thru the first time. i have had it do this multiple times when trying to park, causing many near miss fenderbenders. i have stopped at crosswalks and had it lunge and almost run over people. i have taken it to the ford dealership and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. it keeps getting worse as time goes by and i am scared to drive it. *tt
My 2007 ford freestyle with approximately 56-60,000 miles would lurch forward or backward after sitting in park for a couple minutes (warmup, etc.). i always cover my brake with my left foot fortunately which prevented me from moving too far. this would almost without exception make the 'check engine' light come on and it would run very rough. i would have to turn off the ignition and then restart the vehicle. the local dealer did diagnose and repair the throttle body control (what i was told) under my extended warranty. it cost me my deductible but that took care of the problem for now. it may have had something to do with the 'drive by wire' controls/computer for the throttle body. whatever it was the repair seemed to have taken care of it for now. *tr
Vehicle occasionally lurches when parking or backing up without any pressure on the accelerator (in most cases my foot is on the brake). in the past it has lurched forward, then stalled when making a tight turn into a parking space and the check engine light has come on. usually after shutting the car down and waiting for several minutes the engine will restart. the only pattern to the lurches appears to be tight turns and perhaps high outside temperatures. although the vehicle sometimes lurches forward during normal shut down even on cool days. i took the vehicle to the ford dealer twice in june of 2010. the ford dealer's maintenance department stated that they could not replicate the failure. the ford dealer's maintenance department replaced an air flow meter on the first visit and said that they could find nothing else wrong on the second. the problem continues to persist. only constant vigilance and luck have prevented an accident. *tr
For approximately 2 months, my 2007 ford freestyle has been surging when i put the car in reverse or when i go forward after being stopped, at say a redlight. last week, my vehicle started dying on me and the wrench symbol would come on and the surging would be worse. of course when i got it to the ford dealership the wrench symbol was no longer on so they found nothing when the diagnostic test was performed. after leaving it there for 5 days i took it home and the next day it died and the wrench symbol came on again. i immediately took it back to the dealership and after the diagnostic was ran it was determined it was the throttle body that needed replaced. *tr
Vehicle was in park, moved foot on onto brake and put car into drive. car suddenly lurched forward. i looked down to make sure my foot was on the brake and not on the gas. the wrench light came on which indicates transmission problems, but then went out. if car or person had been in front of me they would have been hit. i was at a fast food drive thru. *tr
Car will suddenly surge in acceleration when switching from park to reverse and reverse to drive; this happens almost every time i get in it from my driveway to parking lots and also at traffic lights. this is a very serious and dangerous problem. when i have the brakes depressed and switch gears the surges (revs high) stalls, the wrench light comes on then goes out but i have little to no power when trying to accelerate. this all started around march 2010 doing it every now and then but is now doing it almost every time we get in it. the mileage is 52,000. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle began to accelerate without the accelerator pedal being depressed. while the air conditioner was activated, the vehicle accelerated without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body and the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure was persistent. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
My 2007 ford freestyle sometimes lurches when i put it in drive, reverse or park, quits sometimes when i'm backing up or pulling out of a parking spot and also surges sometimes when i accelerate. the wrench light will come on, but usually goes off when i turn the car off and then restart it. the check engine light will come on and sometimes it goes off after a few minutes, but other times it stays on for long periods of time even if i turn the car off and restart it. this problem started last june and i took the car to a ford dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. i didn't have too much of a problem over the winter, but the problem has returned with the warmer temperatures and is getting worse. the problem is definitely worse when the air conditioner is on and i can almost count on having a problem after the car has idled for a few minutes. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while in drive, the vehicle would surge forward while accelerating, and surge backward when the vehicle was in reverse. also, when attempting to make a turn in either direction, the vehicle would stall. the vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, they did not perform a diagnostic test. a private mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the transmission was faulty and that he should take it to the dealer for confirmation. the manufacturer had not been notified nor was the vehicle repaired. the current mileage was 50,000. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
Rpms increase and car lunges even with foot on brake. transmission was serviced and i was told this was normal. problem is getting worse, nearly causing an accident as it stalled when the brake was pushed harder when it lunged while waiting to make a left turn in heavy traffic. has nearly caused minor accidents many times when in parking lots or tight locations. when it stalls, the wrench light flashes. *tr
I have a 2007 ford freestyle that "surges" when it is put into reverse or into drive, this occurs on a daily basis. it is a very dangerous situation. i have 2 small children & this makes me feel very unsafe. after taking it to the ford dealership to see what the problem was it was determined that the throttle body needed replacing. there happened to be a car exactly like mine in their shop having the exact same repair. i did some research & found that this seems to be a universal problem with this vehicle. *tr
2007 ford freestyle with 66k miles, purchased at 50k miles. from beginning the car would often lurch hard forward or backward when putting into gear. my wife and i learned to firmly hold the brake when moving the car. the condition has gotten worse and today the "wrench" light came on and the car would not accelerate above 40 mph. after searching ford freestyle forum, i discover this is a well known condition to ford and ford freestyle customers. ford has not taken responsibility even though it's a serious safety issue. most customers report a bad throttle body which ford could not provide (most of 2009). this certainly qualifies for a recall. we like the vehicle but looks like it's time to get rid of it. shame on ford! *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle accelerates suddenly when moving from park to reverse, also when coming to a stop. this has been occuring for the last month. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that when having the brakes applied, the vehicle would lunge forward and the engine rpm's would increase drastically. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that the fuel injection system had failed. in addition, the contact would hear a loud noise from the vehicle when driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that he needed a new transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 74,000. the vin was unavailable.
My 2007 ford freestyle will jump forward or backward when put into gear. it is worse when the airconditoner is on or if you have had your foot on the break while the car is in gear. at times when it jumps it causes the car to go dead and it will have to be restarted. this has been happening since we bought the car in 2010. *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle appears to be having some kind of idle issue. as i put the car in gear, the rpms jump and cause the car to lunge. the rpms jump with the car in park, if the steering wheel is even turned a tiny bit. it's almost like the car isn't getting enough power until something is activated. my concern is with the lunging. i'm afraid it's going to project me into another car or something else. i've not had any service lights come on or anything. this issue just started. my car has 85k mile on it, so it's not under warranty. as i began researching this issue, i found many complaints about the same issue. i appears to be tied into the throttle body. if this is truly an issue with this car, why hasn't a recall been made on the part. this is a safety hazard, especially for a car built for families. *tr
Own 2007 ford freestyle -- had major problems with car accelerating on its own, stalling, etc. -- had to replace the throttle body $750 -- yes, i do have the old part. *tr
My vehicle has 110,000 miles on it. it has for the past 4 years jolting/launcing forward. it sounds like an airplane. it stalls when the weather is hot. waiting patiently for a recall, feel that will be driving down the road and transmission will fall to the ground. worst car i have every owned. i have seen many complaints on this vehicle. have also had at on point trouble turning the steering wheel. thinking should trade car in, but recently paid the car off. *tr
This started last year, when warm weather started, tried to back up after vehicle had been idling for awhile, freestyle stalled out and tried to jump, about three times in a row, before we could get in drive. this seems to be an on going intermittent problem that happens in warm weather. took a friend to the hospital on 05/25/11. drove to east gate from my house to pick her up, stopped at fast food place, had to wait for food, noticed gauge needles all jumped up and then fell back down while waiting w/a/c and engine running in park. pulled out, went to downtown cincinnati, got into parking garage, vehicle started to lurch when i took my foot from the brake. i slammed both feet on brake, to keep from hitting anyone, or anything, vehicle stalled. i restarted, and kept both feet on the brake, the vehicle again tried to lurch out, and then died. this happen 3 or 4 times in succession, finally got vehicle under control, and parked it. it was parked about 30 minutes, drove back to eastgate, and then home. wrench and transmission light came on at time of incident. it was still on when i got home. it went off after a couple of days. on 5/30/11, dropped off friend from work, on my way home, talked in car for awhile with engine and a/c running while in park. upon driving to main road, vehicle stalled, restarted no acceleration, when i hit the gas, vehicle stalled again. pulled over to side, turned everything off, removed key, restarted and drove home. dealership called today, said it was the throttle body and will cost me about $600.00 to install a new throttle body. this is a safety issue that many people are having, after reading info on edmunds.com updated 06/0/8/11*bf
I was idling in a parking lot in my parking spot and the car surged so strong i almost drove into the building in front of me. the wrench warning light came on and the car drove poorly for a few miles. it was jumpy and not very much power. we called ford and he recommended pulling the battery cable off the battery to reset it and bring it in as soon as we got back from our vacation. it seemed to do ok for a while then randomly it would surge while idling.( in 2011 maybe once a month. in 2012 probably every other day.) brought it to ford a few times and they didn't know what to do because it didn't do it while they had it. also the air conditioner will randomly shut off for a minute or two then suddenly come back on. the lights in the car will do the same thing. also the dash warning lights sometimes all come on at once and then all go out for a while. ( i cant see my speed so i have to pull over). i was scared to let my daughter or strangers drive my car. i am afraid they will get hurt or hurt some one. i have to always hold my brake all the way down and quickly let off and put the brakes back on to pull into parking spaces so i don't run into the vehicle in front of me. *tr
How many complaints have to be made before a recall is made. does someone have to die. for over 2 years, i have asked my ford dealership about recalls on my vehicle because i have the same problems as the other complainants. i had to replace my transmission after my warranty ran out but i complained about it well before it ran out. no one seemed to be able to figure out what was happening until after the warranty ran out. i made several complaints about the performance which may have not been recorded under my vin. my complaint date and mileage is inaccurate because i don't know when my first complaint was. my vin history will tell it all if proper records were kept. my throttle signal just came on today and i have to take it back in to see about that. we need a recall now! don't wait until it's too late!!! *tr
A 2007 ford freestyle transmission failure. it was only a few thousand miles out of warranty and barely 3 years old. this is a transmission issue with the cvt transmission that everyone in the industry seems to be fully aware of and ford refuses to stand behind their product. however, ford is happy to charge me $5000 to have it fixed by them. i am very disappointed in their lack of integrity of standing behind their product. *tr
Throttle body issues (possibly transmission as well) cause intermittent surging, unexpected acceleration patterns, stalling or all three. this is especially pronounced with a/c running. the first time it occured i was backing out of a parking space in a crowded mall parking lot. the sudden surge as i was backing out at idle (not depressing the accelerator at all) nearly caused me to hit a pedestrian. dealer "could not replicate" the issue but suggested a thorough cleaning of throttle body. have driven approximately 40,000 miles since first incident and cleaning does help for a short while but the surging returns without warning. clearly a dangerous issue, an accident waiting to happen and i've learned (online) this is common in these vehicles. *tt
Tl*the contact owns 2007 ford freestyle. he stated that the transmission started to fail at 8,000 miles. the transmission light illuminated while driving 15 mph and the vehicle would not accelerate above 30 mph when attempting to make left or right turns. he took the vehicle to the dealer four times; however, there were no failure codes. the dealer upgraded the software, and cleaned the entire electrical system; however the failure was not corrected. the current mileage was 22,496. the vin was not available.
12/10/09 mileage: 35,621 dealer service for rattling noise in engine on cold start up, diagnosed as defective tensioner assembly, but was likely the transmission as same noise was later heard when the transmission was repaired. 12/08/11 mileage: 53,401 dealer service for noise in engine at idle - much worse when cold, diagnosed as faulty automatic transmission. dealer removed and attempted to repair automatic transmission and found input shaft bearing scores and input shaft scored. differential shaft splines worn down and splines on ptu worn down and seized together. transmission was then replaced with rebuilt unit. this was the second transmission installed in this car 3/28/12 mileage: 55,234 dealer service for excessive noise in transmission, described as a growl. diagnosed transmission concern and noise was verified. were asked to return unit to dealer at later time for further diagnosis 4/2/12 mileage: 55,338 dealer service for transmission problem, corrected by installing a rebuilt transmission. this was the third transmission installed in this car. dealer explained that the replacement rebuilt transmission carried a one year warranty 7/1/13 mileage: 63,301 while driving on a street, vehicle produced loud clunk sound after which it would no longer respond to throttle inputs. vehicle coasted to stop. fortunately, street was empty. transmission was inoperable, as vehicle would not move forward or backward in any gear under its power. vehicle coasted in any gear, indicating that final drive line was no longer connected to transmission or engine. vehicle towed to dealer. diagnosed failed transmission. dealer stated that a 4th transmission and replacement oil cooler were needed for $6,900. during the diagnosis, front wheels locked up rendering it impossible to move the vehicle and dealership had to drag it out of service bay. *tr
The car is lunging when i initially put it in reverse and when put in drive, it usually happens when i have driven it for a while and mostly happens when it is hot outside. while sitting parked with the engine running for a few minutes, i put it in drive, the engine revved and it literally lunged forward about 5 ft., i pressed the brake and it died. it took a few minutes to restart it. i did take it to the dealer in 2009 and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. in may of 2010, i took it to the dealer again and they repaired a harness they said may have been chaffed and possibly grounding out at the right side of firewall but also stated that it may still have problems and they were right. last year, the lunging started again but not a lot and now, the problem has resurfaced once again. i have researched and have found numerous other freestyle owners with the same problems. i am concerned that i might hit another car when in a parking lot or reverse into something or someone. it is hard to believe that ford has not put a recall on whatever is wrong with the vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms to 6,000 and the vehicle stalled. when restarting, the vehicle abnormally accelerated. the check engine warning light was illuminated. the contact was able to shut off the vehicle to stop the acceleration and when restarting, the warning light was no longer illuminated and the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred and became progressively worse. the dealer advised the transmission and throttle body would need to be replaced. the manufacturer did not provide any assistance. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was approximately 78,000 and the current mileage was approximately 85,000.
On about 10 occasions my ford freestyle has lunged forward or backward while in reverse without me engaging the gas pedal. it will stop if the brake is applied but it often catches me off guard. about half of the times the car then cuts off (once while attempting to turn onto a very busy street). the car will restart but often cuts off about 2 more times before deciding to run correctly. usually the check engine light and wrench symbol will illuminate. this is a very scary and dangerous problem. on one occasion, after dropping of my mother at a store i took my foot off of the brake and the car lunged forward coming quite close to my mom who was crossing in front of my car. after taking the car to a mechanic, the p061b code came up for internal control mod torque calculation performance. when we googled this code i was shocked at the number of people who have posted on various websites about this same problem. thanks for your time! *kb
My 2007 ford freestyle was delivered in january, 2007. in march 2008, the transmission went and the dealer had the freestyle until the end of may, 2008. the dealer told me that "people" were flown in from "detroit." then, in august, 2009, the transmission went on the mass pike at 65 mph. i called the dealer and i was told that it was my responsibility because the car was out of warranty, but the new transmission only had 11,000 miles on it. (as an aside, no one was at the dealership that i had any contact with when the transmission went in 2008.) i called ford. i was told that this was not a "ford problem" because it was not fixed by ford, but rather by the "transmission shop around the corner." ford's problem has been sitting in my driveway since them and i continue to pay for ford's problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact started the ignition and shifted from park into reverse. the vehicle unexpectedly lunged backward with the illumination of the engine warning indicator. the malfunction also occurred when shifting into drive. the failure recurred sporadically in hot weather temperatures. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the throttle body was cleaned; however the failure recurred six months later. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 24,223. updated 08/07/12*lj the consumer stated the vehicle will stall anywhere and the wrench light comes. the vehicle must be restarted in order to drive normal the check engine light does not always illuminate during failure. updated 08/14/2012 *js
The vehicle routinely lurches forward while my foot is on the brake and the engine is idling. this began during the summer of 2009, and continues today. it is especially common during warm weather. sometimes after this happens, the engine will stall after i take my foot off the brake and try to accelerate on my own. *tr
Lurching out of control car had to be held with extreme force on the brakes. took to dealer june 15, 2009 replaced throttle body and motor assy. cost $732.86 june 15, 2011 car has been lurching again, almost took out our kitchen wall, holding brake hard saved home. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the transmission failed. the vehicle hesitated, surged, and emitted a loud noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for an inspection and they stated that the automatic transmission assembly needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vehicle was already repaired under warranty once. the contact would have to pay to have it repaired a second time. the failure mileage was 19,000.
My car would surge forwarded with out me pressing the accelerator. i took it in and they could find nothing because it didn't do it constantly eventually the car stopped and would start and they said i needed a throttle body. my warranty was up at 50,000 mi and i had 52,000 i had to pay $1000 out of pocket for a problem they couldn't detect earlier. now my transmission has gone bad i have the cvt transmission and the internal shaft has gone bad again my warranty was up at 60,000 miles and i have 64,000 i have spoken to one of the mechanics at a ford dealer and he said they have been this complaint from a lot of people with the 2005-2007 ford free styles they think it may be a problem with the transmissions but they refuse to do a recall. so now i am out of pocket $4000. *tr
I have a 2007 ford freestyle that has a tendency to surge when idling in drive or reverse when my foot is not on the accelerator. i have learned to be very careful and not let anyone else drive the car. it started at around 40,000 miles and vista ford in oxnard told me there was nothing wrong with it. i now have 95,000 miles on it and it does it daily. it is worse when the temperature is higher and at higher elevations. it has stalled a couple of times and the check engine light has come on as well as the wrench. turning the ignition off and restarting the car makes the wrench go away but the check engine light stays on. the light eventually goes off when i get the care back to a lower elevation. it has been worse when the care is above 4000 feet elevation. i have had fords all my life and have never had a problem like this. they have done recalls for items that are a lot less dangerous than this. they definitely need to do a recall asap or someone is going the be seriously injured or killed. *tr
Unexpected power surges when vehicle is stopped. this is extremely dangerous, and we have had a few near misses. while the brake is applied, the vehicle will lurch forward. it does this often, and seems like it does it more in hot weather. we took the car to the dealer before the warranty ran out and they said they could not duplicate the power surge, so they couldn't fix it. i could tell they had heard of this before, but did not want to address it. *tr
The first time the problem occured was soon after i purchased my car. i took my foot off the brake when the car was in park, and the car lunged forward. since that time, this has happened numerous times. the car has also lunged backwards when i put the car in reverse and took my foot off the brake. at times, this has caused the car to die. it seems to be worse when the air conditioning is on. *tt
Car surges forward when the brake is applied. and when driving in the summer the car will sometimes stall and the wrench light comes on. *tr
The engine surges when idling as well as lurches forward (while in drive thru lane) and it lurches in reverse. it is a major concern when parking and backing out of said location. it has already caused me to hit a concrete pillar in the parking garage! *tr
When i put my car in reverse, it will suddenly lurch backward without me putting my foot on the accelerator. it occurs occasionally, but not always. i have learned to anticipate this and always keep my foot on the brake until i am sure the area behind the car is clear. i am concerned about this since my daughter will soon be driving. this could be very dangerous for a new and inexperienced driver. *tr
Car lunges when holding foot on the brake whether in drive or reverse. the lunging is getting worse. very scary. also, air conditioning does not work when idling or stopped; has begun acting like it's going to die and then lunging while driving on highway now. the car has done this since i got it in 2008, but was not as severe and being a woman, wasn't sure if this was just how this car acted for some weird reason. it is getting worse and worse now. it feels very dangerous. now the air conditioner won't work when car is idling either. it works great when going down the highway or in cool or rainy weather. my life is driving. i am a healthcare contractor and must drive often. i need my car. i understand from what i have read (a lot) that many people are filing class action suits. i just want my car fixed asap. *tr
2007 ford freestyle with 30,411 miles. equipped with constantly variable transmission, traction control and abs. the traction control and abs light has come on. normally while cruising at 65 to 70, the rpm is just under 2000 rpm. every few hundred miles, the transmission locks up so that the rpm at 65 to 70 is about 3000 rpm. the engine speed stays proportionate to the vehicles speed as i decelerate rather than going into a free wheel mode. the only way i can get it out of this mode is to come to a complete stop or accelerate to about 4500 rpm. at best, this is wasteful of gas and could be dangerous in being required to accelerate to get it out of this mode. i have taken the car to two ford dealers. they could not duplicate the condition and there were no error codes. because of it. this condition has not been reported to ford motor company. in their words, there is not a problem. one mechanic even said that this was normal. *tr
97,000 miles. i have replaced the throttle body twice, new transmission- hole i n the drive shaft. 3 rear brake jobs- the 1st on was by recall. cracked motorhead 12,000 miles after new transmission. the whole car shakes, squeaks, and pops since the transmission was put in. from the cv joints and back brakes. *tr
Have multiple issue with my ford freestyle: engine surges/lunges, then stalls at lights or driving at low speeds. after explaining this to ford before the warranty expired they kept the vehicle for days and claim issue was not duplicated...when i came back to them a month later i replaced the (etc) at ford's recommendation. they charged me for this. after about 3 years of having the vehicle, i had to replace the engine mount. the dash lights have been going out one by one. when the first one went, it happened before the warranty expired but, ford claimed it wasn't covered and wanted to charge me over $200 to replace a .10 cent light bulb. i told them not too and they still charged me $50.00 for the inspection. though the surging stopped for a year and a half after replacing the etc, the surging/lunging has returned. and since the warranty has long since expired and i am under-employed, i haven't had the money to replace this part again. *tr
I received a recall notice on the back brakes. had those replaced july08. in july09 i was backing out of a parking spot and when i put the car in reverse it accelerated and lurched forward almost hitting the car beside me. this happened several times. this went on for about a week. then every time i put it in reverse it would die then the transmission light came on. took it to the dealership and it was the throttle body and was replaced. in feb. 2010 i was informed that my back brakes were completely gone and needed to be replaced asap. in june10 the car started making a funny noise in park and no lights in the instrumental panel had come on. took it to the dealership and the input shaft bearing was out. which means a new transmission. in october10, as i was turning right into an intersection during morning rush hour traffic it would not accelerate. i had the pedal pushed all the way to the floor. and, the transmission light came on again. took it to the dealership, it was the throttle body again. *tr
Vehicle is a 2007 ford freestyle ltd with continuously variable transmission. the haldex traction control coupler between the front and rear wheels seems to work normally when on slick pavement and the traction control 'active' light on the dash flashes to show it is working. however, the same light comes on on dry pavement and will not go off until the engine is turned off. it may come on each driving cycle, or only occasionally or even while parked and idling. the dealer has replaced the pump in the haldex coupler but the erroneous tc light still comes on at random times. others on the ford forums have reported the same symptoms and and obdii code of p1889 (oil pump failure.) *tr
2007 ford freestyle accelerates on its own when brake is applied. my wife and i have both had this happen and we've almost hit people and property because of this issue. ford dealership said it was a faulty throttle body but refused to fix it while it was under warranty and now wants to charge us hundreds of dollars to fix it. *kb
