We have classified the 260 complaints from 2007 Ford Freestyle about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
The car stalls out and i get the wrench on my dashboard. the car will restart after a few minutes and runs fine at that point. this apparently means that there is a powertrain fault detected. when the diagnostics were ran they pulled the code u0401 and the dealer told me that there were alot of freestyles and mercury's with this code and that it would be $280.00 to diagnose the problem. *tr
On the date shown, while driving in a funeral procession and entering the cemetery my vehicle started to lurch, lunge and bucking. tried to give it gas but didn't respond. i then shut the vehicle off and when i started upon leaving the cemetery the vehicle started this again. i drove to the dealership and the maintenance person told me that this was being caused by a sensor and that i could shut the vehicle down and restart after a few minutes. this seemed to work for a while then the same problems kept occurring. this was mentioned a number of times to the dealer with the same explanation. i think that this problem has now created another in the the transmission on the vehicle is gone.
Vehicle surges without driver's foot on the accelerator. engine revs and vehicle lurches forward until brakes applied at which time engine may die. a warning light may or may not illuminate on the dashboard as a "wrench" symbol. when the ignition is turned off and restarted, the warning light designated by a "wrench" symbol goes out. *tr
I have a 2007 ford freestyle which is having a problem with suddenly lurching forward when stopping. if i turn the car off and let it sit for a few minutes then the problem disappears. something needs to be done about this issue because i know i'm not alone and it is a serious issue (i barely avoided running into someone at a drive through because of this). this problem has occurred when simply taking my foot off the breaks and not even pressing the gas pedal. *tr
Surging and lurching forward while parking or slowing down. i almost hit another car and a person on the side walk. two different incidents. this has happened about a dozen times and becomes more frequent and powerful each time. the wrench light has come on the dash board now. 2007 ford freestyle. *kb
My 2007 ford freestyle has been lunging forward or backward when idling or at very low speeds, both in drive and reverse. for example, when pulling the car in or out of a parking space or when slowing at an intersection. it will lunge several feet sometimes, and i have nearly hit parked cars and once nearly hit a pedestrian. i have to slam on the brake to stop the car from hitting things! i have done some research and there are so many people experiencing this same exact problem with this vehicle. it is a safety hazard! this needs to be recalled and fixed by ford, before many people get injured! *tr
With my freestyle there is an issue with the transmission or throttle control. there are times when i reverse or go forward from either a parked position or from a stopped position that the car will lunge. i have to apply the brakes sometimes to avoid hitting another auto. when i do this sometimes the car will stall and the "wrench" light will show up on the instrument panel. i have also had it not go into gear, it will lunge and then when i apply the gas the car will not shift into the next gear. the rpms will go up but even with the gas pedal to the floor it will not engage. i have taken to the car to where i have the extended warranty and they are stating that they have not heard of this problem. i have been told that without the light on there is no way to know what the problem is. this is a huge issue because there is no way to know when it will happen and you always need to be prepared to apply the brakes and this can result in a stalled vehicle which in turn could be struck by another vehicle causing bodily injury.
2007 ford freestyle lunges forward without warning we thought it was when the a/c was running but it happens without i the a/c on. we have almost hit a few cars when in traffic. i know that they are investigating this situation, but something needs to be fixed. we cant be having this happening with out son in the car. *tt
Own a ford freestyle 2007. when i put the car into drive, while the a/c was on, the car "lunged" forward and the "wrench" light came on the dashboard. i checked my manual and it referred to the throttle body possibly having an issue. i immediately shut off a/c and shut car off. i then restarted car and the wrench has not appeared since.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently lunge forward while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the throttle was replaced. a few months later, the power train light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact was also informed that the parts necessary to remedy the failure were unavailable. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the first failure, but not the second failure. no assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 60,000.
2007 ford freestyle that lunges forward or backward depending on what gear it is in. i saw where ford was looking into this for a possible recall, mine does this on occasion. but 5/30/11 mine did it very badly and the car died. the check engine light and transmission light both came on. i did get the car started and back into a parking spot, with it lunging forward and my foot on the brake. the car is at carmax now as i had bought the extended warranty they offer. waiting on the outcome. *tr
Our problems with our 07 ford freestyle started occurring about a month ago. i started to notice that when i went to pull out into traffic, my car sort of stuttered, then took off. it has done that several times now where it is crucial to accelerate quickly, and i have been so afraid of getting hit because of it. it is like pushing on the gas and not really getting much of a response where there should be. so the most recent incidence occurred when i was leaving the store with a friend and my children. i put my car in reverse to exit my parking spot, and my car took off aggressively. i had to keep applying the break to keep from hitting anyone or other cars. when i let off the brake in the drive gear, my car quickly accelerated with no application of the gas pedal. this could be severely dangerous to myself, my family, and to other people! please recall these cars.
After i bought my freestyle, i started having serious surging issues, especially after idling for a time or when trying to park the vehicle. sometimes it would occur during rush hour traffic, endangering my life and the lives of other motorists. i took the car to the dealership. the tech's suggested replacing various components of the car a/c system and other related components. no successful resolution was ever reached with the dealership, even after the suggested repairs were made. i continued to have surging issues, making the car unsafe. in january 2013, i took the car to a reputable mechanic who diagnosed the car with transmission failure, specifically the input shaft. i believe that the surging issue related to the subsequent transmission failure. not only is my car unsafe to drive due to the surging issue, but now is completely undriveable due to the transmission failure. i was made aware in january 2013 that ford issued a tsb in december 2012 relating to the surging issue and recommended a fix that would completely resolve the issue. but i believe this tsb came way too late. the surging damaged the transmission and thus created a problem within the transmission that wasn't there before. ford took steps to solve a problem that made their cars unsafe. now they need to come forward and further address the issue that the surging not only made the car unsafe, but damaged the car and then submit measures to resolve the issues of damaged transmissions. *tr
Throttle body on 2007 ford freestyle and transmission bad and car kept lunging forward. dealership will repair but there had been many with the same problem. *tr
Car lunges accelerates forward and backwards while driving in and out of driveway or parking spaces. it has happened numerous times over the last year. *tr
2007 ford freestyle lunged twice in may, 2011 while pulling into parking spot. incident happened at 55,000 miles. slammed on brakes and did not hit neighboring vehicles. early in june 2011, had our ac replaced which was not working. immediately after ac was working again, car lunged, wrench light appeared and vehicle stalled during a low speed turn. car proceeded to lunge and surge regularly when it was put in reverse or drive. with foot firmly on brake and putting the car in park, rpms would go between 3000 and 5000. then car would die. with experimenting, car would not do it when air conditioning was turned off. we researched internet and learned about surging and throttle body problems. had fuel induction service performed and have not had recurrence in 90+ days. did not replace throttle body yet but suspect it will be clogged up again with time and mileage. we can't predict when the surging will happen. we will not let our teenager drive this vehicle. it is very unsafe and needs to be recalled for this reason. *kb
My car after being in park, when placed into drive lurched forward. once i started the engine did not seem to go quite right and i had an orange wrench light appear. i pulled over and turned off car and the light was off when i restarted it and it acted fine. i have had 3 subsequent similar incidences...the lurches have had me come close to hitting a car and a person. the light always goes away when i turn off the car and turn it right back on. *tr
We own a 2007 ford freestyle. it has roughly 51,000 miles on it which have been all city/highway miles. we have never towed with this vehicle. we have been experiencing problems with surging followed by lack of power for about a month. to get power back, you must put the gas pedal to the floor and wait for it the power to kick back in. we took our vehicle in to lithia ford in boise, id where we reside and where we purchased the vehicle and have had it maintained. they informed us that the throttle body needs to be replaced. of course, this is not covered under the powertrain warranty, even though it is required for the vehicle to drive. the estimated cost is $954! i guess we are lucky that it has not failed on us yet as there have been numerous frightening stories about this type of failure. we will need to have it replaced within the week and will be retaining the old part. however, this appears to be a systemic issue with ford freestyles and certainly a safety issue. i have owned a ford all of my driving life and, for the first time, am regretting buying this one. we would ask that you take note of the overwhelming number of complaints from other freestyle owners, especially for the 2007, and immediately open an investigation on behalf of us consumers. thank you! *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle started jumping or lunging when i would be parking. i would have my foot firmly on the brake and was about to put the gear in park when the car would just jump or lunge forward. i would push harder on the brake and it would stop. fortunately, i did not hit a car or wall in front of me. after this happened several times over a three week period, i took the car in for service this week and they had to replace the throttle. it cost me $856.64 at my local ford dealership. *tr
I had my brakes repaired this spring. two weeks ago i had to have my a/c compressor replaced. on 5/8/11 i was backing out of a parking space with my foot applied gently to the brake when my ford freestyle suddenly surged and then shut off. when i restarted it the wrench light was lit. i took it to the dealership the next day and was told i needed a new throttle body, not covered under powertrain warranty as it is outside the engine. i researched these issues online when i got home and there are many discussions regarding all of these issues. some even state after repair the vehicle continues to surge and has even hit other vehicles. *tr
Http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2951&start=45 - is the link for the several different customer complaints regarding the ford freestyle. question - why is ford not forced to do a recall on the freestyle due to surging forward and backward. other car manufactures are being held accountable. yesterday on may 8, 2011 - 2007 limited ford freestyle - was in walmart parking lot - put the car in reverse - surged backward - car just about hit a child in the parking lot if i was not quick to put on brakes. took out of gear - put back in reverse - small surge backward. to drive forward - put car in gear - jerked - about to fail but finally surged forward - noise as if gear are stripping - drove to stop light - made a right hand turn - car just about shut down - my husband and grandchildren in the car. - thankful no cars were behind me. dangerous on the road and in parking lots - be hit or hit people or other vehicles. - per all the complaints posted appears there is a throttle problem that has been identified and replacements are in short supply. going to the media to see if this will get someone attention. *tr
Our 2007 ford freestyle is exhibiting vehicle lunging and/or engine revving when a foot is not on the accelerator, and occasionally at low speed when it is.. this is now occurring daily, and has worsened since having one repair (replaced engine/transmission mount) done last week. *tr
Vehicle suddenly surges from stopped position without the accelerator being depressed, occurs in forward and reverse without warning, problem is intermittent. *tr
Surges up to 2000 rpm when slowly turning into a parking space, driveway, etc. brakes have to be forcefully applied to avoid the vehicle surging forward and hitting something or someone. *tr
My ford freestyle surges in direction the transmission is in. if in drive it will surge forward, if in reverse it will surge backwards. this occurs every time i drive the vehicle. i'm afraid i am going to hit a pedestrian while trying to back out of a parking space. i'm also concerned when my daughter uses this vehicle because of her inexperience. this problem was identified to be the throttle body and is most predominant during warm weather or when the vehicle is thoroughly warmed up. had the same problem with our 2006 ford freestyle and was waiting for a replacement throttle body when the vehicle was totaled in an accident. now having the same problem with our 2007 model. *tr
I have had problems with the car wanting to accelerate forward or backwards. at first i thought i was imaging until while at walmart when i put the in reverse = car surged backwards while foot on the brake - about hit a child - when put in forward gear = car surged - jerked - had no rpms. at time of purchase i drilled the sales manager about the transmission and stated that i did not want the same problems as experienced with my windstar. was told different type of transmission, update - not gear driven - solved the problems = have not had complaints about the transmission -(definitely a lie - found complaints on line0 at fort mill ford in fort mill, sc. once this problem started, had no rpm to speak of - drove with the accelerator to the floor - max speed i could reach was approx. 35 to 40 mph. after researching, it was found that ford knew this has been a problem from first complaint (see on line) unless you force the issue - ford dealers denies until brought to their attention the research i done on the problem - they replaced the throttle. i have no confidence that this has solved the problem. ford should be forced to do a complete recall - reimburse those that had to pay for this error which ford was very knowledgeable due to the complaints on line. ford needs to prove that they have solved this issue. *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle started making a "revving up" type sound when car was in park or reverse. it would feel like it was going to lunge forward if i was stopped at a light ect. it stalled out on me and the wrench light would come on. it would start back up. i took it to the dealer asap when this started happening. i have approx 80,000 miles on my car and was told i was past my warranty due to mileage and they would not honor the 5 yr warranty. the dealer had me call ford to see if they could help me out with adjusting the cost of repair. needless to say-this appeared to be a scam to get your car repaired at the dealer. i am now looking at $2500 in repairs to fix a bad bearing in my transmission. this car should be recalled on these transmission problems! ford needs to stand by their customers! i wonder why they stopped making freestyles? who is going to bail us out on these repair bills? *tr
Just above idle the car lunges forward whether we are moving forward or in reverse. *tr
Whenever i put it in forward or reverse there's a surge or in reverse its does a jerk. when i go in reverse i cant use the air conditioner. it cuts the car off and then the wrench comes up when i restart the car. *tr
Our 2007 ford freestyle (70124) began making a noise in park and neutral. took it to dealership and was told the cvt transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $4384 with labor and flush $5618.87 to repair. after reading other accounts here i also recognize the lurching forward. tried to trade vehicle but cost of repair takes away trade in value. we will wait for a push pull and drag sale and try to get at least enough for it to get another vehicle. was told that the new replacement transmission carries a 100,000 mile warranty. why did the current transmission have only 60,000 mile warranty. we were told ford is the only place to get the new transmission. win win situation for ford at customer expense. one solution for ford to consider if they cannot do a recall is to refinance vehicles for transmission repair at cost. they should not just abandon their customers. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the dealer stated that the entire power train was defective and needed to be replaced. the contact did not replace the transmission. the failure mileage was 110,000.
My 2007 ford freestyle keeps lunging and my trans stopped shifting. *tr
2007 ford freestyle, it has been lurching and accelerating and then stalling off and on over the past 2 years. we have had it checked out twice and the mechanics can find nothing wrong. last week the car started having a high pitched whining sound, had the wheel bearing checked, nothing wrong. then the car in the middle of the highway just quit going forward, the car was still running, but would not go anywhere. having it towed to the dealer, pretty sure it is the cvt transmission. the car has 78,000 miles on it. *tr
2007 ford freestyle- the transmission has a bearing going that is causing the transmission to slip. this car is only 4 yrs old. when you are driving you feel the engine revving up. ford will not stand behind its warranty on the replacement of the transmission. i also have had the wrench light go one. the car is starting to lose power when driving on the freeway, i also have had issues with the middle seat not going down properly. it was replace once when the car was first delivered and will not go down again. i also have paint peeling off left side of hood. this started when the car was less that 2 yrs old. ford will not help with any of the costs to fix any of the above. i am located in ohio. *tr
My 2007 for freestyle is having lunging issues. i often notice it when it's very hot and the air conditioner is running and/or when i'm parking. i've also noticed the wrench lite appear a few times. other times, my car looses power completely and shuts off. other times, it feels like i am loosing power when i'm driving. almost as if the car is down shifting to a lower gear. *tr
This car has a bad surge problem especially when the fan is on. my foot will be on the brake and it will just lunge forward. i cannot run the air in the summer or the car will just cut off more noticeably when i am turning a corner. i have had the throttle cleaned and continue to have the same problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. while driving approximately 30 mph the contact heard a clanging sound in the vehicle. the contact proceeded to accelerate but the vehicle would not move. the contact attempted to shift gears and the vehicle would not move to any gear. the contact was forced to push the vehicle into a parking lot. the vehicle was going to be towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
My 2007 ford freestyle has been accelerating without the gas pedal being pressed. it usually occurs when in reverse. it does not do it everytime. the last few days it has been doing it in drive as well. today it was enough to cause the warning light to come on. i was able to stop my vehicle with the brakes. this is getting worse and i am afraid it may lead to an accident. *tr
Car would lunge forward on its own 2007 ford freestyle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle would surge forward, while the air conditioning unit was activated, then the vehicle would suddenly stall and he would notice a warning light on the instrument panel. the dealer inspected the vehicle and informed the contact to have the throttle body replaced. no repairs were performed. the current mileages were 30,000. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. updated 9/13/11 *cn the consumer also stated if the ac was on, the vehicle would surge forward. the dealer informed the consumer models starting from 2006 and up had a problem with the transmission body valve. updated 10/05/11
2007 ford freestyle is stalling, and stopping in middle of highway, the transmission is not shifting, from my understanding, many owners have the same problem. rpm is racing. i have to turn the car off and wait a few minutes i have called ford many times and reported the problem to them. today, 1-31-2011, the ford freestyle 2007, shut completely off in the middle of i-85. there could have been an car crash if i didn't think quickly on what to do. something needs to be done about this, ford should be held liable because of so many owners have the same problem. *tr
Noise coming from engine. took it to dealer found that the transmission is bad, do to a bent shaft.
I got this car on 04/2010 thought it would be good for the kids nope i have had nothing but problems in jan /2011 the transmission went now 09/2012 same thing the car seemed like it was going to stall then lunged transmission again this is not a safe car !!!.. has been in shop as of 9/29/2012 tonight the auto shop called me and said the part is not in stock might be up till 3 weeks before they get it, wont pay for a rent a car for me & told me i could come get the car till the part comes in.... but cant tell me its safe for me & my kids to drive in ??something should be done asap !!! *tr
2007 ford freestyle surging. our freestyle has the surging issue. first started last year when we turned on the air, the ford surged and threw 2 rods. ford rebuilt the engine, luckily still under warranty. since then it has done the surge at least five more times, it seems turning on the defrost, air condition, or when the all wheel drive starts, it happens. i have taken vehicle to ford 2 additional times and they cannot seem to find nothing wrong. *tr
I bought ford freestyle about 4 months ago,now i am having problems with the throttle and especially the transmission which stalls out in the middle of driving. also, when on the interstate it does the same thing. had it checked out and going to have to get some major worked done on the engine. *tr
2007 ford freestyle: wrench light on dashboard came on indicating throttle control/transmission problem. car stalled and surged for 4 miles. throttle body replaced at 36,819 miles. *tr
My ford freestyle is constantly lunging or surging when i go from idling to driving. this happens most often when i am backing out of a parking space. this has almost caused me to have an accident on several different occasions. many times after surging the vehicle cuts off. *tr
At first occurrence, i was pulling into a parking space. as i took my foot off the gas and placed it on the brake my car lurched forward unexpectedly. this unexpected lurching has increased in frequency and happens both in drive and reverse. there have also been incidents when the car is in park and it revs, as if i am pushing on the gas pedal. it will rev like that and idle down a few times and then the engine will stall. *tr
The transmission causes performance issues. the transmission jerks, rattles, doesn't pull, causes the engine to stop while traveling or parked in traffic. causes sudden jerking while driving, backing up and starting off. it also jerks violently when the vehicle is put in drive or reverse even before starting to drive. while driving the transmissions causes the vehicle to be slow to change speed. this is a serious safety hazard cause while driving the vehicle jerks so violently that it risk hitting another vehicle or pedestrian. *tr
While at rest, car suddenly surges forward. then, while reversing my car started surging making it darn near impossible to drive as well as park. in 2011, spent 7000$ on a new transmission for a four yr old vehicle with 75,000 miles!!!! ridiculous. now, the car surges in both directions and timing is off. ford issued a one time throttle cleaning. what a joke! thanks ford! $150$ service that fixes nothing and 20,000 people online that are out 5000-7000$ for transmissions get what? *tr
