We have classified the 260 complaints from 2007 Ford Freestyle about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I own a 2007 ford freestyle limited. starting last year, the car began lunging forward and backward, depending on what gear i was in. we had the car looked at by our transmission guy. they found nothing wrong with the transmission and cleared the check engine code from the computer. the car ran fine for the remainder of the year up to this point. it is now july of 2011 and the same issues are happening yet again. this issue is particularly bad during the summer months, especially when the a/c is running. i have noticed that this seems to be common occurrence among these vehicles and i would like to see ford issue a recall to correct the problem. *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle lurches forward/backward and cuts off when being moved from a parked position. however, on friday in rush hour traffic my vehicle cut off completely in the middle of the highway and i went in to oncoming traffic lanes. thankfully my four children were not in the car and the light for oncoming traffic was red at the time and i was not hit. i was told by the ford dealership that it was due to the defective electronic throttle body which i have now had replaced. *tr
Started my 2007 ford freestyle in a parking lot put it in reverse and all of a sudden it lunged backwards almost hitting a pedestrian. it has been doing this for about 6 months now but this is the first time someone was almost hit. it usually does it when shifting into forward or reverse from neutral took it into dealership it first started and they did some sort of software update ( they claim) but it has never fixed the problem. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt
When my ford freestyle idles (it seems mostly in hot weather) for more than even 2 minutes when i put it in gear forward and reverse the car lunges even if my foot is on the brake. it does this every time the weather is hot or if my car idles for any period of time. i have just began researching what the problem could be and see many people have the same issue. i have not yet replaced any parts. most of what i read stated transmission trouble or throttle body problems is the cause. *kb
My 2007 ford freestyle will lunge in forward and reverse. it stalled last night when it was in reverse and this happened. it is happening more often. this is very frightening and could easily cause an accident. *kb
I have a 2007 ford freestyle. when the air conditioning is on the car will jump forward. the wrench light will come on and i have to turn the car off and back on to get rid of the light. yesterday it did the same thing and now the engine light is staying on and will not go off. so far i have kept from hitting anything by reacting quickly and slamming on my brakes or turning the air off or sitting with my foot on the brake but one of these days i may hit a car or a person. very dangerous situation. *kb
Car's acceleration falters or appears sometimes unexpectedly. *tt
When i am going at a low speed the car goes dead. example being when i turn in my driveway or into a parking space. also the car surges and jumps forward or sometimes backwards when i put it in reverse or park. it is beginning to happen all the time and is dangerous! i am so frustrated i don't know what to do. i actually ran across a site where tons of others are having the same problem. i do not have 750.00 plus to pay on fixing something that ford is well aware they fouled up and did nothing about. as with all the other cases my a/c quit long ago. i feel they should be held accountable and a recall issued so they can pay for the repair of an item that should have been sold in proper working order. thank you. *kb
Was during the day of my niece wedding day. after we left from the church and headed to mcdonald's for a quick bite since we travel from a long distance to get there on time. my wife and i sat at the parking lot with the ac on cause it was very hot the day. when we finish are small meal i put the car in reverse and slowly release the brakes and the car just lunge so fast in reverse that i almost hit this person who was almost 15 to 20 feet away and my wife started to scream. we couldn't believe what just happen. this is not the first time it happen. now, every time i put it in reverse or drive you can feel and see the car rpm go up. i didn't bother to take it to the dealer cause they will not find the problem. i have read so much of this problem being taken to the ford dealer that they are charging so much money by changing all kind of parts and the problem is not resolve. i just wish some one who has some clout would be reading all this problem and tell the ford dealer, hey what are you waiting for, for someone to be kill. *tr
My ford freestyle has 87,000 miles. until recently, it has been a terrific car. however, it now has had intermittent problems that (according to the code) are linked to the throttle body. the transmission and engine lights come on. the accelerator doesn't work, and then it lunges unexpectedly. after researching online, i found hundreds of others are having this issue. *tr
Car was reported to stall on a hot day while the air conditioner was on. when car was put into reverse or drive the car stalled and then went into failsafe mode (wrench light). car did not appear to lurch forward as has been reported. problem happened one time. *tr
My car has been lunging for the last few weeks, and i almost hit another car. last week, when i got in, the wrench light came on. i immediately started driving to the dealer. i lost power for a few seconds and then my car would hardly shift. the lunging was the really scary thing, and now they are saying my transmission needs to be replaced, and it is out of warranty by one month. *kb
2007 ford freestyle sel w/ approx 71k miles. vehicle rpms surge at idle or very low speed while in drive (such as maneuvering into a parking spot). vehicle stalls after putting in reverse, then forward gear, then reverse after idling for a while w/ ac on. after re-starting, does not get above 35 mph (mechanic light comes on and . until you turn the car off for a while -then restart. the operates more normally. fuel gauge light doesn't light and the first 1/3 of the rpm range is not lit when the above aforementioned stalling problem occurs (then comes back on). nobody hurt yet. tonight i emailed ford, giving them my vin and asked them to pursue a recall. please press them to do that, clearly there is a very serious problem. today the surging nearly hurt a child in a parking lot; thank god my wife's foot was on the brake. *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle lunges in both forward and reverse occasionally. usually heavily applying the break will stop the car. this typically happens at very low speeds when i am parking the car or getting out of a parking space (at the grocery store, ect...). the instances occur more often in the summer time, in hot weather and when the a/c is on. it is a very dangerous defect, especially since it occurs often in parking lots or at school when i am dropping my kids off, as there are lots of pedestrians. i have submitted a previous complaint on this issue, but have heard nothing. this problem has occurred for the past 3 years. *kb
On several occasions my 2007 ford freestyle has lurched forward without me stepping on the gas. typically it happens as i am idling and i go to step on the brake (forcing me to break hard), or when i am easing up on the break (i.e., instead of slowly moving, the car lunges forward). *kb
During low speeds, idling speeds, car accelerates or surges. more noticeable when air conditioning is running or in idle mode in drive up lines. wrench warning light comes on. if i turn car off and then back on it usually removes the problem. occurs when going forward or backwards. *tt
My car lunges on its own. it happens several times a day while driving. when backing out the driveway, pulling through a drive through, or turning from a stop. i have come very close to hitting other vehicles. i have taken it to the dealership and they found nothing wrong. *tt
The first time the problem occurred, i was waiting in a line to exit a parking lot so i was idling when the car surged forward. i slammed on the brakes and the car stalled out. i was able to re-start but then it would surge again. i put the car in neutral and was able to make it out. the car chugged a bit but when i got going it worked fine. a few days later, when idling, the car would either chug and stall or surge. the problem was particularly bad one day and had been doing it a few times. we then were entering the highway and it was like the car wasn't getting any gas, it took awhile to get the car over 25 mph. we took it to the ford dealership and they said they weren't sure what they problem was but the readout said it was the throttle body but they weren't familiar with anyone else having the problem. it seems the problem occurs when it is very hot and the air conditioning is running. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall when braking to a complete stop. the contact stated that the failure would most frequently occur when the heater or air conditioning was activated. the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic where the contact was advised that there was debris in the transmission fluid and discoloration. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive because the vehicle would also surge forward without warning. the failure mileage was 120,000.
vehicle surges forward whether the vehicle is in drive or reverse. i have had the throttle body replaced in 2011. i have had to replace brakes at 30,000 miles. the driver side back door will not lock with the key remote. on july 6 2012 with ac on driving slowly out of a parking lot car would not go. it started up and i went about 20ft and car just died. on july 10, 2012 took it to dealer in virginia beach, va. on tuesday, july 12, 2012 i was told it was something to do with the powertrain and the cost would be $1600. i went ballastic and asked to speak to manager and then asked for number to ford company. i talked with someone there explained my financial situation and was given a claim number and said someone would get back to me in four (4) days about financial assistance, which is not what i was looking for. i told the ford rep, that i had been looking on the internet about all the complaints about my 2007 freestyle and asked why there was not a recall on this car. on wednesday, july 11, 2012 dealer called and said the problem was not the $1600.00 deal but a pigtail (whatever that is) at the tune of $600.00. i am afraid of this car and i am looking to get rid of it as soon as possible. *tr
2005 and 2007 ford freestyle. in warm weather the car will suddenly surge when stopped with the brake applied, slowing with the break, or reversing with the brake pressed. believed to be the throttle body and confirmed by auto repair shop. research has revealed tons of owners with similar problems with the throttle body on these vehicles. seems quite dangerous to have your car lurch out into an intersection. *tr
2007 ford freestyle crossover - the car will suddenly lunge forward, sometimes the motor shuts down and the "red wrench" light comes on. this has been happening frequently in the last month. i have called the dealership and they say they think it may be due to throttle problems. although i have not done an extensive investigation into when the above happens, i have noticed when the air conditioner is on high, it happens. this may be coincidental but nevertheless i have noticed the surge when the air condition is on. i have researched the internet for others with this problem and there certainly seems to be many people with the exact same problem. there is definitely a safety issue with this in that if you do not currently have your foot on the brake, the car will lunge forward (possibly hitting another car, a pedestrian or have even having a deadly accident). this problem needs to be considered a recall by ford and repaired free of charge by ford. this should be done before someone is seriously harmed. *kb
When the car is running during warm weather it lurches forward while driving forward or backwards when in reverse. i have to keep my foot close to the brake to keep from hitting anyone or another car. the car often stalls when this happens. ford did a recall on my vehicle and had the throttle cleaned for free. however that did absolutely nothing and the problem continues. i called customer service and was told they would not do anything about it. *tr
My freestyle which i purchased new has been at the dealer multiple times for lunging. when it lunges it throws the wrench light. last incident is the incident date below. *tr same as pe11018
We were sitting in some stop and go traffic with the a/c on and then the car started to jump forward and has continued to do so. very concerned since this is my families day to day car which my 2 very young children are always in. ford needs to recall this since this has been known for a very long time. *kb
The car leaped forward unexpectedly while pulling up to a stop sign. this happened on 7/02/2011 for the first time. we had this occur several more times in the next few days, always while stopping or parking the car. in one instance the car would of struck a light pole, had there not been a curb there. this seems to occur whether the car is cold or has run for awhile. we are now having to drive this car like it may leap forward at anytime. ford needs to get this taken care of before some is seriously injured.
We are experiencing the lunging and sudden acceleration at idle speed on our 2007 ford freestyle. when moving in a parking lot, it is very apparent, particularly as you change from reverse to forward. you really need to pay attention, and keep your foot on the brake because the vehicle does lunge. we recently have had another issue with this vehicle while driving on vacation. the little "wrench" appeared near the end of our trip and the vehicle appeared to be losing "power" to the wheels. after the vehicle cooled down, it operated normally and the wrench did not appear again, yet. *tr
About three months ago i bought a 2007 ford freestyle. one day when me, my daughter, and my granddaughter went shopping , in warner robins georgia my car stopped right in the middle of traffic and cut off . we just about had people hit us in all different directions. so i turned the car off and turned it back on and drove into the parking lot and called the people i bought the car from. they told us to bring the car too them. well a couple days later when i was suppose to take the car to them it turned off two times in one day! i had bought all of the available warranty i could buy when i bought the car, but today the dealership called me back and said that it is the throttle body, and that no matter if you fix it, it can continue to mess up (and it is not on the warranty!!!) , and the cost of the part to fix it is 670.00. i am unsatisfied and scared to drive it and i feel like its a big safety risk!!! i don't want to continue driving it with it turning off in the middle of traffic. it makes me scared and i am nervous for my family!! i have read on the internet that alot of people have had problems with the throttle body for there 2007 ford freestyle!! *kb
Ford freestyle 2007 i have had 2 throttle bodies replaced car continues to surge in forward coming out of reverse. just waiting for a big wreck ford does not care what can i do. *tr
2007 ford freestyle lurches when air is on making small tight turns or increments. *tr
The engine surges during braking at low speeds in either reverse or drive. it causes the car to lurch forward or backward (depending on gear) therefore brake must be firmly applied to maintain safe control. it has the potential to be a very dangerous situation since there is no warning and you are not actively controlling the car other than applying the brake. it occurs very frequently. have been told it is the throttle body on 2007 ford freestyle and am going to have it replaced. *tr
2007 freestyle lunges forward after putting it in gear. requires a lot of pressure on the brake in order for it not to do an commanded forward movement. this is very unsafe. *tr
Vehicle lunges when brake is released. vehicle will move forward or reverse once vehicle is put in gear and the brake is released and also when stopping for example at a red light, once brake is released the vehicle will jerk forward without stepping on the accelerator. *kb
I just purchased a ford freestyle 2007 and took it to a tach day after the purchase due to the fact that the car surges and cuts of and then will loose power. tech advised me he couldn't find anything wrong test drove it several times and it never happened after we got home with the car it being to do it a few more times this seems to be something that will get you killed or your family killed i sure hope ford realizes if someone does get hurt but the car surging like this that the company will be at fault and i hope they fix the issue soon for good. *tr
2007 ford freestyle lunges at low speeds in both forward and reverse. i noticed this activity for about a year but thought that maybe my foot was slipping off the brake. i finally tested it ensuring that i was not pressing the accelerator in any way. the car lunges forward after foot off the brake, and lunges in reverse. this happens intermittently, but now with increasing regularity. in pressing the brake hard to prevent an accident, the car stalls. *tt
The wrench lights come on and the vehicle idles up when at stop light or just stopping vehicle lunges forward with use of brake. can't use a/c vehicle will lunge also and then shut off completely. very unsafe... *kb
While backing from parking space car lunged backward like in acceleration. second time was put into drive and started to accelerate without had pedal being pressed. each time the wrench light comes on. *tr
I own a 2007 ford freestyle. after the second year of owning this vehicle i had problems with the accelerator. it would accelerate when slowing down to a stop sign/light/or parking and also when i would go in reverse. at times it would shut down completely. i went in for service at ford and they couldn't figure it out the problem since it didn't occur all the time. lately the problem got worse i went in for service and they finally figured out it was the throttle. i have an extended warranty which covered the $800 + bill although i believe this should have been a recall. i was very fortunately i didn't get into an accident over this problem. *tr
Car surges when at a stop or when trying to park. some times the surge is so strong it is hard to keep from hitting people or objects. *tr
I am filing a complaint against the ford "freestyle" model yr. 2007. i purchased the car in december 2009 from a reputable used car dealership. i discovered from the salesman there were only a few left as the car had been discontinued by ford. what began happening almost immediately, i noticed the car would, as i first described, "popped" when i let off the brake from an idle, and would surge forward. i told my husband about the problem he told me to wait and see if the problem would work out. but, it became far more dramatic when i was in "carpool" even after turning off the ac (a problem in tx.), the car would surge forward so quickly my children would be afraid as well. i was terrified because there are many children and i was afraid that i would lose control. (this is a very scary scenario). my husband took the car to the ford dealership soon thereafter where we were told after a few days of diagnostics that the car had no identifiable issues. the problem has never 'corrected' itself and has worsened. i have had several 'near misses' for traffic accidents as a result. i have a very real and scary problem and i feel my children are at risk. *tr
My 2007 ford freestyle revs up by itself. when backing into my parking space i have to keep my foot on brakes back up very very slowly due to the car wanting to lung back on its own. not able to use my a/c or heater. when a/c is on the car really revs up and then eventually cuts off with all the light being lit up , the wrench and engine lights up, then i have to wait about 5 minutes before the car cuts back on. this is very dangerous as when im waiting at a stop light the car will lunge forward by itself, i could hit someone accidentally or i could just run into another car. the car seems to have a mind of its own, its scary. i pay for this car and i cant even use the a/c or heater my kids and i just have to suffer. i cant afford all these problems as i have six children to feed. they need to take care of this problem it could be life or death. *kb
Bought a 2007 ford freestyle in march 2011 and started having problems shortly after. was told it has cvt and it acts up sometimes. my problems are lunging, rough idle, engine dying. have been just dealing with it and using recommended fuel and occasional injector cleaner. this weekend( jan 8 2012) i went to change air filter, check tire pressure, etc. i followed the directions in the manual to reset the idle trim and now the vehicle will not move at all. it will idle with no a/c, but the gas pedal does nothin. when you turn a/c on it dies. we have not hit anyone or anything, but have come close once or twice. we drive the vehicle with the anticipation that its gonna move without warning. any assistance will be appreciated. *tr
2007 ford freestyle; continual surging forward and backward; stalling; inability to accelerate; wrench and engine lights come on; unable to repair because everytime it happens, by the time i get it into service, it is running well again. more recently spoke with service after occurrence and he is very familiar with the problem, repairs them all the time so i am scheduled for an $800 throttle body replacement tomorrow; the problem leaves me vulnerable while driving so i am unable to wait for recall, it needs to be replaced immediately. *tr
Unexpected lunging forward or reverse at low speeds, with brakes applied. *tr
While holding brake and shifting to drive or reverse the rpm's increase causes the vehicle to lunge, almost hit a man in a parking lot, have came close to car's on different occasions. was happening occasionally but now it's every time you drive the vehicle. also the vehicle loses power during acceleration, then the wrench light comes on. you have to stop and turn the engine off. then restart engine. *tr
I purchased a 2007 ford freestyle on may 05 2011 and started having problems within the second month of having the car but i also heard a loud noise when you turn the wheel sharply to the right, and i told the finance person and he said ok we'll take care of that and they never did. then now we are in the third month of having this vehicle, and now it cuts off right in the middle of me backing up and the ac on and i would have to turn the car off and restart again. then the car acts as though its revving up and you could be at a stop light and it will rev up and you would have to really place your foot hard on the brake to keep it from hitting another car in front of you. took the car several times to the dealership and they said the first time they did not know. they did a diagnostic check up and said they could not find anything. the last time they tell me its the throttle body and then the gentleman proceeded to tell me that's been a big problem with these cars since they have came out. so this company knows they are selling lemons to people and they don't even care. *kb
On 07/21/2007, i purchased a 2007 ford freestyle which was used as a demo. recently at 50,500 miles i have been hearing a light thumping sound from the engine area while idling. per my visit of mid june 2011 to the dealer service area, i was informed that the vehicle only required a transmission sensor to be replaced. since the last visit, i have contacted the service department twice and have been told that the sensor is on back order. i could hear that hesitation in their voice like as if they are keeping something from me. i don't like this. the vehicle also lunges unexpectedly and this is of great concern to me. i am just glad that i have not been hit from behind. i have just been very lucky. in regards to the noise, i am speculating a faulty cvt transmission. *tr
I have a 2007 ford freestyle and i have been having problems with the car surging forward and backwards when i try to park and backup. this also occurs at stoplights and sometimes the car will cut off. even when i apply the brakes the car still trys to surge. its like it accelerates all on its own and at times it has even been hard to stop the car due to issue. it was only happening occasionally but now its happens quite a few times a week. there should be a recall on this car due to this problem..
2007 ford freestyle surges up to 2000 rpm when slowly turning into a parking space, driveway, etc. brakes have to be forcefully applied to avoid the vehicle surging forward and hitting something or someone. *tr
I recently bought a used 2007 ford freestyle from a used car dealership. after owning the car for a couple of months, i was sitting in a drive-thru line when i noticed my car started surging forward while my foot was on the brake. i became concerned that i might hit the car ahead of me so i got out of line and parked the car. after some down time i was able to re-start the car and for that night had no other problems. now over the last month i have noticed the surging more and more often and am concerned i will be in a situation where i can't just get out of line and some damage will happen or injury. i have found by researching on-line that is a known problem with the ford freestyle and i would just like to report that i feel continued driving of this vehicle may be dangerous but, it is the only vehicle i have to drive and have no other choices. *kb
