Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Ford Focus

The transmission on this vehicle is terrible. i have taken the car in for the recall on the clutch assembly but that has not helped the issue. there is major hesitation when first apply the gas pedal at take off and it cause the car to "jump" or hesitate. this as almost caused accidents on may occasions and you have to be really careful when pulling into the flow of traffic. i feel that it is a real safety issue and i am not sure what the fix is since they have repaired it once already. it doesn't happen on a highway, it only happens when taking off from a stopped position. this has been an on going issue since i purchased the vehicle. it is the last ford product i will ever own, bad design

2014 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to continuous problem with vehicle clutch replacements and transmission reprogramming. consumer seeks financial reimbursement for emotional distress and fraud of vehicle purchase. *smd the consumer stated that the vehicle had two clutch replacements and had been serviced over 12 for computer reprogramming. during an inspection, with the consumer present, the vehicle was driving less than 20 miles . the documents state that the vehicle did not miss-perform, as was normal on short trips according to the consumer. several weeks prior, the clutch was reprogrammed then replaced. updated 04/03/2017*js updated 06/14/2017*js *js *tr *js *js

I approached a red light to make a right turn. i came to a complete stop, the on coming traffic had a green left arrow allowing them to turn them in front of me. once the traffic cleared, i started my right turn. the car stuttered as i began to accelerate, the vehicle behind me appeared to almost hit me as my acceleration was almost not existent. i pressed the gas further and finally around 5500 rpm, the car seemed to 'engage' since it lurched and the tires chirped a bit as they grabbed the pavement.

I purchased a new 2014 ford focus in february 2015 with 15 miles on it. drove the car for 5 months with no issues, then in june i noticed a terrible shudder when accelerating from a stop sign. it also makes a grinding noise while trying to get in gear and take off. i have taken the car back to the originating dealership 6 times so far. i''ve had the clutch replaced, the transmission has been reprogrammed 4 times, and still no fix. i will not allow anyone to drive the car, nor will i let anyone ride with me in it due to the poor performance. the car is extremely dangerous to operate and very embarrassing to myself on the road. it has changed the way i drive other cars as well. i anticipate a shudder, lurch, jerk, grind from other cars while i'm driving do to what i experience on a daily basis in this car. the time, stress and frustration this car has caused me and my family is exhausting and so disappointing. this is the first ford that i've purchased and will definitely be my last. word of mouth goes a long way too. *tr

When i first got the car, i noticed, slight jerking and shuddering. i complained to the dealer, and was told it was "learning". it progressively got worse, and would shudder upon hitting the gas after leaving stop lights/signs instead of moving, until it finally got into gear. it would randomly lurch forward, white in traffic if you hit the gas after you were slowing down or stopped. etc. i contacted the dealer again, and they flashed the module. it stopped for a while, then started getting worse. i contacted the dealer, and they replaced the clutch pack. it would get better, then start happening. i was then told by the dealer, and ford, this is normal. it's just how the transmission is. while coming off of an exit, i hit the gas and the car pulled onto the road, then just wouldn't move. i pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and it started shuddering, and finally got in gear and lurched forward. i contacting the dealer again, explaining how unsafe the car was with it stopping and shuddering before it will go, or just randomly lurching forward in traffic. the dealer flashed the computer 4 times, and replaced the clutch pack 3 times. it always gets better, then starts happening again. i finally traded the car in. it's very unsafe when you don't know if your car will just stop and shudder while pulling into traffic, or if it will lurch forward when you touch the gas. i've been told there are several complaints about it. ford now even offers a rebate if you trade in a car with that transmission, but you have to purchase a ford to get the rebate. they also still manufacture their cars with a known issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle jerked forward and intermittently stalled. the dealer informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v514000 (steering). the vehicle was repaired under the recall but the failure reoccurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 23,000.

I am treating this as a new occurrence, or at least ford told me i had to start at the beginning. i purchased my car in march 2014. in october 2014, i had the heating core replaced and the clutch replaced. i went through several months of taking the car back and forth to the dealer with shifting issues. the would hand me a piece of paper and tell me it was normal. after it was towed to the dealer and i spoke to the service manager, i was told that the transmission vibrations far exceeded the normal and they were authorized to replace the clutch. at time of replacement, they found shards of metal in the bell housing. so i would say about 4 months after they replaced the clutch, it has started to do the exact same things that it did before the clutch was replaced. sometimes you can hit the gas pedal and the car will not go, sometimes, the car will jerk when being backed up sometimes. i have now had the car lurch forward and lurch backward and my foot was not even on the gas pedal. when it lurched forward, i was traveling at a very low speed in a parking garage and as people were crossing in front of me the car lurched forward, my foot was not even on the gas pedal. the transmission does not shift smoothly, especially at low speeds. and the car again sounds like it is grinding as it shifts gears. the dealer did a shift rpms test (again) and said everything in new clutch is within specs but reset the computer. they did that several times the last time. i think that this is a serious safety issue, especially when the car lurches when the gas pedal is not touched. the dealer advised me that ford does not have area service managers and that i just have to follow their procedures. my car is only 14 months old. lat shift rpms 2516-2266 250 rpm 2974-2754 220 rpm, is the results they have on my paperwork ma 08/04/15 updated 10/25/2017*cn

My car has 33581 miles and already put second set of tires on it. the problem is that the transmission is no good. problem started at 3000 miles when the car totally shut down in the middle of traffic on the interstate between sylva,nc and waynesville ,nc . the car will not take a hill without spinning tires, it even does it at red lights....help.

I purchased my new 2014 ford focus in february 2015 with less than 100 miles on it. drove the car for 5 months with no issues, then in june i noticed a terrible shudder when accelerating from a stop sign. the car jumps and then shudders when taking off from stop. it makes a grinding noise while trying to get in gear and take off. i have taken the car back to the originating dealership twice, so far. i am currently in the process of waiting on a part from ford to correct this issue. per ford, they are applying clutches to the transmission to resolve this recurring problem. the car, in my opinion, is extremely dangerous to drive and very embarrassing to myself on the road. i have owned several different makes and models of vehicles in my life but have never dealt with anything so frustrating as this with any of the cars. this is the first ford that i've purchased and i am a very unsatisfied customer, to say the least. if the part/clutch doesn't fix the problem, i will be filing a lemon law suit against ford.

Since i purchased this vehicle in march of 2014, it has bucked at slow acceleration at speeds of 10-25 miles per hour. this caused vibration of the rear end and inconsistent acceleration. it occurs more often in hot weather. i have had it check twice, but the dealers say that it is normal with this type of transmission. it also is more prevalent in stop and go traffic.

Vehicle violently shakes when accelerating from a stationary position and when accelerating from low speed ( 10 mph)

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while the vehicle was parked on a hill, the brake pedal was released and the vehicle rolled backwards. the failure recurred multiple times. while in the stop position, the vehicle started to vibrate. the failure recurred multiple times. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle made a jerking motion and hesitated to accelerate. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

This car shakes and shutters when trying to move. this car seams to be unsafe when making a left turn into traffic. does not have power when need.i have brought the car in a few times for computer upgrades. this has not solved the problem.even the dealer told me this transmission is un fixable

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact had to apply force to the accelerator pedal in order for the vehicle to move forward. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000.

Vehicle stalls, jerks and accelerates, have almost been in a couple of wrecks because of this.has been repaired once but still have a serious problem with it.was told to bring it in for door hatch and fuel tank recall.they tell me now that i need a clutch that is going to cost over 1000.00.the clutch issue has got to be because of the module that has been replaced and never helped anyways.

Gears grind/jerk when shifting. automatic transmission.

Transmission is hesitant to engage and jerks between first and second gears. feels like car is going to stall out when moving- extremely dangerous. dealership has reprogrammed car with faulty factory parts/settings.

Ever since around 10,000 miles, my 2014 ford focus has been experiencing delayed acceleration and deceleration, grinding noises coming from the transmission, shaking, rough starts, and shuttering. it's caused the vehicle to lurch forward rapidly after not initially accelerating, with a few close calls in traffic. ford is aware of this problem. i've taken this vehicle in to be serviced, only to have them tell me the part isn't available. it's been 4 months, still waiting. this is unacceptable.

Right after we bought the car, when we accelerate the car shutters and shakes. it will also hesitate which has caused us to almost be rear ended several times. we called dealership were car was purchased and took it in for them to test drive. was told it need to be repaired however they didn't have a opening for 6 months . this delay was because ford could not get them the parts . we were told that's all they could do and to drive it anyway. the problem has only gotten worse. we finally got the car in and now a one day repair as we were told has turned into 3 days so far. the dealer continues to blame ford for the times and delays. when asked what other damage has now been done to the other parts of the car including to engine we were told they didn't know and ford has no plans to address it. in talking to a engineer for ford we were told there could be damage to the engine as well as other parts do to the fact they were not designed to be put under that constant stresses by the defective transmission.

When i am accelerating from a complete stop, the car shakes at higher rpms in first gear and when it is trying to shift into second gear from first. the car haphazardly accelerates or sometimes will not accelerate at all. spoke to the dealer and they said this is normal, but i disagree.

Transmission shudders in first and second gear. bought my car brand new. at 45,000 miles i had to have the entire transmission and clutch replaced! how is this even possible on a 2 year old vehicle? well, again 6 months later, at 57,000 miles sure enough the transmission is messing up again. this needs to be recalled! more than a recall, this is unsafe. ford needs to buy back every one of the focus' effected because there's no way someone could sell this car!. the car grinds, shudders, and stalls.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving approximately 40 to 45 mph. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 266. updated 7/10/15*cn the consumer was informed the problem was the transmission computer module. however. 100 miles later, the problem occurred again. updated 05/05/16.*jb

The car has been to the ford dealership on a number of occasions due to jerky shifting of the transmission at take off, starting around 5,000 miles. the dealership even said on invoice, "operators should read owners manual for characteristics of operation." the car is now around 11,000 and the issue continues to present itself. the dealership has done several "software updates," with none ever working. they are incapable of handling transmission work at their shop, so we had it towed 120 miles to miami, where the "hardware was upgraded." the car has been back less than two weeks, and now the transmission is acting up again.

I was driving on the freeway at 70mph in fifth gear and something in the engine blew. i started blowing oil and smoke out the rear, "service engine soon" came on, and the oil light came on. i lost all power and power steering, so i made my way to the shoulder. i pulled the hood latch and stepped out of the vehicle. upon exiting the vehicle i witnessed flames shooting out from underneath the hood in the engine bay. i backed up and watched the front of the car fully engulf into flames.

When the vehicle comes to a complete stop then when you speed up it jerks 5 to 8 time failing to speed up. the only way it can speed up is if you press the pedal more and try to go faster. also today 5/6/2015 we were at the interstate and we were in traffic and the car didn't wanted to pick up, only if you press the pedal more then is making the car go faster then i want to go. is like it doesn't want to go no where. then on my way back on the interstate i press the pedal and at 30 mph going up the slope i slowed down it did a hard jerk. other thing i noticed is that when i use the electronic manual shift is delayed making the car go on a high rpm. car purchase date 5/1/2015 2014 ford focus. *tr

Car unexpectedly hesitates, due to transmission design, when accelerating from a stop. this causes vehicles behind you to rapidly catch up, making a rear impact/accident more likely. also, this same transmission hesitation causes the inability to accelerate out of harms way when necessary. *tr

The car shudders or hesitates when accelerating from a stopped position. so far the dealership has stated that "some shuddering is normal". i just don't see how that is normal. now not only is the car shuddering but it also make a grinding noise when it shudders. car has 12,000 miles on it

Dual-clutch transmission 'shudders, slips, bucks, jerks, hesitation".

This has happened multiple times, when trying to turn out of a side street onto an main intersection my car hesitates, jerks, and shakes causing me to be slow pulling out and almost causing multiple accidents when i know i have plenty of run if the car doesn't hesitates. i have taken this to ford multiple times and nothing has been done. i have read of many other users have the same issue.

The powertrain transmission does a herky jerky jumping when i accelerate from a stop to start position. if i am driving and have to slow down and re-accelerate it hesitates and will not speed up. it hesitates to go on acceleration at other times. ford has told me this is normal and this is not normal. i am worried that i will get into an accident while driving due to the acceleration problems, the bogging down while driving and the jumping. it has skipped a gear while driving and makes grinding noises. ford will do nothing about this and states this is normal for this transmission. this has been going on since i bought the vehicle. they won't take it back or correct the situation. i have taken it to two different shops to have it checked out and both said it checked out "fine" because that's what ford tells them to say.

Bought brand new. when accelerating, somewhere between 2nd and 3rd gears it hesitates and shutters and grinds and there is considerable delay in acceleration between 2nd and third gear. it then seems to grab onto a gear and plunge forward. it is an automatically powered manual transmission so i do not shift, it shifts automatically.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while accelerating from a complete stop, there was a delayed response and the vehicle accelerated in a jerking motion. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

When beginning to accelerate the transmission has a delay and/or a 'buck' causing hesitation or unwanted surge in acceleration. i have had this to the dealer soon after purchase and they did not resolve.

Vehicle shakes, hesitates, shudders from stop and at slow speeds. very jerky and inconsistent shifting through the first 2 to 3 gears. not as apparent at speeds over 25mph. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop position, the vehicle started to vibrate and made an abnormal grinding sound as it hesitated to shift gears and accelerate. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the transmission was reprogrammed. however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

The vehicle drives like it is in the wrong gear. it seems like the transmission or something is dragging. it does not go smoothly to another gear. it drives hard for a 2014 car. i don't know what the problem is..... updated 09/30/15*bf

Transmission in the new 2014 ford focus started shuddering and slipping. it would roll backwards on hills. it would slip in slower traffic. on takeoff it would shudder. took this in to have fixed. and has been in shop 3 times. this is dangerous in traffic. 4 different times was almost hit by another vehicle when i would try to take off and they would slam on their brakes behind me. and it would just ram on take off at a light and almost hit vehicle in front of me. this is dangerous and many have reported this to ford. seems no one can get anything done. this is a major problem with the transmissions. this should have already been on the recall list. please help all of us whom have suffered and been scared for our lives. please look into this thoroughly. so many many complaints

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly slowed down and would not accelerate. during the incident, the "engine fault, service now'' message displayed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. in addition, when accelerating from a stop, the vehicle would shutter. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch was faulty. the pcm and tcm were reprogrammed and the clutch was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle began to shake. the contact attempted to depress the clutch pedal, but it failed to depress. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed, but the technician stated that the clutch and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 11,000.

When driving the car shudders and doesn't want to go into gear, have had it into service dept several times for known transmission issue! the problem started shortly after i purchased the vehicle. it's been 2 1/2 months now and still waiting for new clutch to arrive and now my vehicle will not drive at all!

Original issue began immediately after purchase 3/28/15. made appt. with dealership for april 15, 2015. i was told the car needed a new clutch. after a complaint to my state attny general, the repair was made in mid may. car drove ok for a couple of months at which point the transmission issues began again. i took the car to the dealership on 1/4/2016 and was told yet again, it needed a new clutch. i have not heard anything from the dealership since that day. specifically, upon acceleration the car stutters badly and does not want to catch the gear. during driving, if you take your foot off the gas to turn without touching the brake, transmission does not change gears; it roars and the tachometer needle swings to high rpms before it levels out. when you park the car, turn it off and take your foot off the brake, it sounds like something is banging against something else. if the car is parked on the slightest incline, upon starting, it is difficult to get the car to shift into reverse or drive. furthermore, during routine driving you can detect unneeded shifting by the transmission. i regret the day i bought this car. two bad clutches in less than a year. this transmission was junk from the beginning.

Transmission feels like it is slipping upon acceleration. feels like driving in high gear, lots of jumping & jerking. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while attempting to accelerate to approximately 70 mph, the vehicle failed to respond or would jerk excessively until the desired speed was reached. broadway ford diagnosed that the clutch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed the same failure. the contact was informed that the failure would continue despite a repair. the vehicle was not repaired and the contact traded in the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: 12381390. the contact stated there was a class action lawsuit; however, because the vehicle only received diagnostic testing regarding the failure twice rather than at least three times, the contact was not able to receive reimbursement. the approximate failure mileage was 21,000. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly decelerated without warning. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutches in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,200. the vin was unavailable.

When pulling forward out of a gas station, i hit the accelerator, the car started shuttering and jumping, then reed up to 3,000 rpm after i took my foot off the gas, i was only trying to go forward about 20 feet. it then kept going without any input from me as the driver. i had to hit the brake all the way down to stop it and prevent the car from going into another vehicle. the car then shifted really hard and almost lurked my passenger into the dashboard. this transmission is not safe and this was not the first time it has happened. *tr

We were sitting at a stop light on a slight incline (no more than a driveway). when the light turned green, i took my foot off of the brake and the car started rolling backward. i applied normal gas pedal and it still rolled back. i gave it more throttle for a second and the transmission finally caught. fortunately, we avoided rolling into the car behind us. the car probably rolled back three or four feet before engaging. since the car was purchased new, it shudders when leaving a stop, and has a grinding noise in the front when going uphill and turning to the left. in other words, it has the same issues as all of the other complaints people have posted online. when we bought the car, we were told that after a 1,000 or so miles of driving, the transmission would "learn" our driving habits and be smooth..........right. when i talked to the local ford dealer's service dept., i was told these are just characteristics of these transmissions. if these are properties of a normal ford dual-clutch transmission, they should be ashamed. *tr

While taking turns at 10 - 15 mph speed and/or while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle gives out a series of rattling noises with the transmission. this seems to occurs at no / partial throttle being applied. at times, while accelerating from stop, the vehicle shatters quite strongly. the shudder is pretty strong when it occurs when accelerating from a stop on an incline. *tr

i have complained to ford ever since we purchased our brand-new ford focus se 2014 in that the transmission does not shift correctly. more than once the engine responds but the transmission does nothing at all! i took my car in with the above complaint with only 250 miles and i was told that i needed more miles on the car, 2500, so that they could look at two different modules and reset them if needed. well thats what they did. i returned at a different time with the same complaint and was told i needed yet more miles on the car. i took my car in for servicing with 6500 miles but now ford is saying they need 10,000 miles before they can do anything at all. when i mentioned they earlier had reset the modules i was told by another member of the service department that was wrong to do what they did but i no longer believe what they say about my problem. this same problem can get my family and i killed especially when i press the gas and want the transmission to downshift and nothing happens! the engine responds with 6000-7500 rpms but nothing more. in one instance we were almost run over by a 16 wheel tractor trailer on a highway going almost 70 mph. i can no longer trust the car and ford is not doing anything at all to help our situation and i am sure someone is going to be killed before anything is done and then it will be a day late. i need help not we need more miles on the vehicle. i am hoping that reporting my situation will help me get action to be taken and that ford is held responsible for such a poor design attempting to use a manual transmission as an automatic transmission. so please help me with this most serious problem and situation. ...updated 09/28/15 *bf updated 11/15/2017*cn *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 65 mph, the transmission failure warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to hesitate and shake. the vehicle was brought to a complete stop and failed to shift into reverse. the next day, the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 21,000. the vin was not available.

Hello i purchased my 2014 ford focus sept 1, 2014 decided to get a ford being that i've had nothing but toyota corollas in the past and a plymouth neon that was given to me but prefer corollas anyways soon after i was driving it i noticed a jerking, revving on take off at first i thought ok it's just me but when my sisters noticed it and my brother while he took it to the store that's when i knew it wasn't just me. the car feels like it has no power upon take off which makes me really uncertain and afraid i don't feel insure letting anyone ride with me. i drive up ortega hwy a lot since my son lives in mission viejo it's a very up hill ride the car jerks a lot and again has no power i literally have to give it gas for it to move. i have taken it in twice now to get checked and both times they performed a update on the engine was what i was told and that the car was fine. i am not happy with my car i feel that i got ripped of they should discontinue this cars instead of selling them they are very hazards and should not be out on the roads. i am continuing making my payments since i don't want it to affect my credit buy i am not to happy since the car i thought was in good standards is not i wish i would of known this when i was buying this type of vehicle i was never informed of the kind of transmission i know that i did tell them i want a automatic not a dual automatic and standard transmission not a happy person right now. very disappointing. *tr
