Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate to accelerate and the transmission would slip. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis where it was diagnosed that the transmission crank had failed and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

In traffic my car moved too slow then too fast and it felt like i was losing control of it. it was jolting forward then backward. a light came on the dash saying faulty transmission service now. i had only 3 block to dealership to go and the car almost cut out the whole time. then it would not go in reverse, dealership (norris ford) reprogrammed the car. i drove the 1 mile home in smoothness, but noticed when i got home the clock was no longer working. in the morning i saw the date and clock both were wrong and they would not reset. so i called dealership and was told to bring it back. about 7 blocks from the dealership i had to stop for red light and when i touch lightly on the gas pedal the car jolted across the street! again i was losing control of the car. i told the service department and this time they changed the clutch. i am scared to drive my brand new ford focus for fear of it stopping in traffic now. i have only owned this car 3 months and it had 172 miles on it when i bought it that were suppose to have been test driving miles i only added 273 miles before the first incident. i fear for mine and others safety when i drive now. yes i drove the car since the replaced clutch and right now after 20 miles of driving it seems ok but if the same kind of clutch was put back into the car i fear it will happen again. total miles on my car now is only 486. *tr

Immediately upon purchasing the car it started hesitating as if it would stall from a stop on city streets, while turning, and almost every time it accelerates from a stop, it does not have to be in park or neutral in order for this to happen. it occurs also when the car is in drive. ford replaced the clutch 3 times, at 6779, 13844, and 20156 miles. it is now behaving in the same way, the car does not accelerate properly and chugs along. ford stated this june at 39030 miles that the car is behaving within normal limits, however it is doing exactly what it did before when they replaced the clutch.i am hesitant to believe this is the truth.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at 20 mph, the transmission failed. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 1,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. the contact lost power steering and the vehicle crashed into a guardrail. a police report was not filed. the contact stated that the front passenger side fender to the rear quarter panel was severely damaged. additionally, the transmission began to shudder. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to hagerstown ford (1714 massey blvd, hagerstown, md 21740, (301) 733-3673) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the clutch was replaced for the second time. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v514000 (steering). the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 9,999.

The car constantly has severe shuttering when accelerating. already had to replace the clutch, on a n automatic car at 70k miles, and it immediately had the same issues the dealership said couldnt be fixed.

The transmissions in my 2014 ford focus has never operated properly. i purchased the car new from mahwah ford in october 2014. the transmission slips and shudders when trying to accelerate in first gear. it behaves as if someone just learning to operate a manual transmission vehicle is behind the wheel. this makes is very dangerous trying to accelerate from a stop when entering a roadway. i have brought the car to the dealership on many occasions, but was told this behavior is normal for the vehicle. my other family members will not drive the vehicle, because they do not feel safe doing so. twice the dealerships said they applied software updates to the vehicle, but that did nothing. i do not feel safe in this car, but due to financial considerations, i am not able to purchase a replacement. please help get these unsafe vehicles off the road.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at 62 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and vibrated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

I filed a complaint last month on 9/17/14 #10637121 about the transmission grinding, lurching forward and shifting poorly. i took it to the dealer and they "reset the transmission" and i was advised to drive the car nice and was handed a paper on the transmission on the focus. on 10/26/14 (9606 miles), i had a major coolant leak and had to have my vehicle towed to the dealer for service the next day. while there i also asked them to look at the transmission again. i was argued with and handed a paper on the dual clutch manual transmission and what to listen for. i explained that what i was noticing (grinding, lurching and hitting the gas and the car not going) was not normal and was advised that they would "look" at the transmission but with them resetting it, there was probably nothing they can do. after a day and a half of misdiagnosis of what was wrong with my car, i was advised that my heating core was leaking and told that my transmission was fine (no leaks). i spoke to the service manager and insisted that there was an issue with the transmission. he agreed to test drive it and called awhile later and said that they had hooked it up to a machine to test the vibrations in the engine and that my focus engine vibrations far exceeded the normal and they would be approved by ford to replace the transmission. i just got my car back today and on the service order they 1) replaced the heating core and 2) replaced the clutch assembly. when they took apart the old clutch, they found shards of clutch in the bell-housing and metallic flakes. so for nothing being wrong, shards of clutch sound serious to me!! my car is only 7 months old (one road trip to north carolina) and it has lost value and i worry about future clutch issues. the 2014 ford focus still only has a standard warranty on the transmission/clutch. *tr

I have had my car to ford for my transmission problem 3 times! hesitation/shudder when accelerating. ford claims this is normal? should not be the case when driving. they will not "fix" the problem. a car should not operate that way with no resolution. my concern is this has a potential of being a safety issue. this car is an automatic. it is difficult operating the car on hills, car rolls backward when accelerating!! car is still new and in warranty.

When driving vechical it will sometimes shutter when going up an incline and when i stops at a stop light or sign and i accelerate the car to go the car will lung forward at times. i have a little over 17,000 miles on my car and as of august 7th 2017 the cluches have to be replaced by a ford dealership.

While driving the vehicle, the transmission light came on and it began to sputter. while on the highway to take it to the dealership, it accelerated then jerked and dropped down to 50 mph while my foot was still on the gas. at times, it slowed nearly to a stop then would lurch forward. took it to the dealership where when the vehicle was turned off then back on, the warning light went away. having to transport your children daily makes it a concern especially upon reading reports about other owners of this 2014 ford focus are having the exact problem for which nothing is being done. *tr

Transmission at highway speed jumps out of gear. had ford look at it and they would not even drive it just put it on the computer and said its fine. also it slips when pulling out. worst car that i've owned never buy another had 2007 with no issues

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle shuddered and hesitated without warning. the contact referenced the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 13v523000 (power train). the vehicle was taken to a dealer (george wall ford lincoln 700 shrewsbury ave, red bank, nj 07701) to be diagnosed however, the diagnosis was inconclusive. the mechanic was also unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000. *dt*jb

Shuttering and jerking of transmission

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle jerked and hesitated before accelerating. in addition, while driving at a low speed, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to part unavailability. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v005000 ( fuel system, gasoline); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,000.

Transmission shifting problems: hesitation/jerking while shifting; this problem is well known by ford & the dealers; transmission slips. anytime/where i'm driving my automatic-transmission 2014 focus and press the accelerator after slowing down to or starting in first gear (as in from a stop), the transmission races as if caught between gears. this makes me press the accelerator down more to force it into gear. sometimes it feels like the car is coasting along in neutral until it kicks into gear. this has also happened on the highway between other gears - there is loss of forward motion. i've been to ford to "reset the transmission gauge" 4 times now- including for the 2 recalls for this dps6 transmission. the last time they had the car i had a rental for just over 3 weeks while they were replacing parts that they claimed caused the slipping. since then, the problem has been better, but whenever i turn on the a/c and it's raining out, the problem returns. this has been going on since the 2nd month of ownership (oct. 2014) - a 5-year problem. there are several recalls and articles (eg https://ford.oemdtc.com/1650/14m01-dps6-transmission-clutch-shudder-transmission-input-shaft-seal-warranty-extension-2011-2014-ford-fiesta-focus) that relate to ford's knowledge and repair attempts for this issue. date on this form is first occurrence, not the last

Vehicle on multiple occasions has slipped/stalled when trying to accelerate. sometimes it is from a dead stop and sometimes it is at speed. car will shudder, high rev and not shift, start to go and stall. i feel unsafe in this vehicle and ford has not corrected the problem. *tr

I picked up my repaired/replaced car yesterday at 2 pm. the service department replaced the clutch, seal and wiring assembly. i was told that the car would have to "re-learn" my driving habits and that would take about 2 weeks. i drove the car home and parked it. my husband came home from work and he started the car at 5:20pm. he placed the car in reverse and the car lunged forward with the car in reverse. he had to stomp on the brakes. he repeated this 3 times. i immediately called the service department and her response was "i will get the car towed back to the shop". so we decide to go back out and try it again. this time i had my video rolling. i have it documented that the car was in reverse ( the back-up lights are on camera) and the car is moving forward. not only do i now have this issue my car is grinding and clanking and making all kinds of odd noises that weren't there before the repairs were done. i'm appalled that ford is not doing something about all these issues. if a child or one of my pets would have been in front of the car they would have been ran over. this is totally unacceptable. roadside assistance is coming to tow my car back to the service dept. and i once again will be stuck in a stinky rental car when i have a car with only 7000 miles on it and i can't drive it because it's not safe. *tr

I bought my 2014 ford focus in august of 2014, ever since i have had transmission problems. the car shakes, shudders and jerks with acceleration. it also makes a grinding vibrating noise. i have taken it in for service multiple times and have been told this is normal for ford cars. i do not feel safe driving and am afraid the car will stall one day as i do a lot of city driving with multiple stops and accelerations. i should not be having these problems with a new car. ford needs to recall this issue, as it is a danger to drivers.

The vehicle on acceleration shutters, this is a know problem. i know that ford and the nhtsa have known about this problem with the 2014 ford focus. i don't know why a recall has not been issued, this is a safety hazard, when pulling into oncoming traffic. i have had the clutches replaced once, and the vehicle still shutters, not a much, and i am being told that it falls within the limits set by ford motor company. i am not happy with this alternative, and the problem should be fixed altogether. the vehicle is still making noise, i have been told by ruidoso ford that this noise is normal. i have my doubts. i am looking at this arm of the us government to make sure that the vehicle i am driving is safe and that recalls are done efficiently and promptly. *tr

Transmission is very sporadic when starting from a light. cars jumps from first gear to 3rd and back to second. it is having a direct impact on driving of the vehicle. i have contacted the dealer and i was told ford engineering has had some difficulty in getting the transmission to react effectively with the computer to make the shifting smooth. i now have over 60,000 miles on my vehicle - out of warranty and this issue seems to be getting worse. *tr

Transmission does not engage smoothly between shifts. transmission is slow to fully engage into gear. vehicle shakes and shudders when progressing through gears. no power during attempted acceleration. transmission does not shift into gear when gas pedal depressed. in all conditions, stationary, motion and all locations, city, highway, turning. occurs continuously from purchase until current date.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked and an abnormal rattling noise was heard. additionally, while parked, the vehicle jerked in reverse without warning. the vehicle was taken to brenengen ford (615 s black river st, sparta, wi 54656, 608-269-3673) where it was diagnosed that the clutch assembly needed to be repaired and the computer reset. the vehicle was repaired on several occasions; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and the warranty was extended. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 61,000.

Auto clutch - jerks and lurches between 0-40 mph. occurs accelerating from stop or accelerating in general. has locked my seatbelt because it jerked so violently. has thrown the car back when going uphill from stop. had there been a car behind me i would have hit it. safety issue. feels like tires are spinning and car doesn't move. then it jerks 3-4 times then launches ahead. happens on turns or straightaway. city streets and less than 40 mph. bought the car brand new with cash. less than 1000 miles when this issue started. been in the shop 2-3 times per year since then. 5 years of inconvenience adjusting schedule taking time off work. ongoing problem from 2014 to present.

I bought my 2014 focus in august of 2014, it was a lightly used rental from late 2013 to around the spring of 2014 and only had a little over 14,000 miles on it. since that time i have had to take it in (including this most recent appointment in a few days) 3 times for the same issue. when i am accelerating from a stop, the car will shutter, hesitate to shift, often grind until it reaches a higher gear. after i take the car in the problem is gone for about a month but then slowly starts to come back the more i drive it. the problem is much more prevalent when i am driving around residential areas with a lot of hills and stop sign intersections. i am worried that if this issue continues throughout the life of my car it will either cause an accident, or at least put me in danger of causing an accident, and it will also cost me a fortune to maintain if i have to continually take it in for repairs each year!

Auto clutch surges, jerks, drags. shifts into reverse when you are in drive. *tr

While driving up a hill i stepped on the gas so i could keep up with traffic and the vehicle bogged down and slowed to about 15 mph before the trans mission kicked in and the car started moving again. also sometimes when you are taking off from a stop the car will lung forward into traffic also when driving about 10 mph the transmission will constantly shift up and down and jerk like it is looking for the correct gear. was told by the dealer that ford is aware of these problems but considers them with spec for this type of automatic transmission. when you bring the car into the shop the first thing they do is give you a 2 page handout describing how this automatic works but my problems are much worse than what they describe yet they can't find anything wrong. i am afraid to drive this car in traffic because you never know what it is going do. it would have been nice to have seen this handout before purchasing the vehicle as i probably wouldn't own the lemon now. *tr

Our ford focus has numerous transmission clutch burnouts (7) and transmission computer failures (3). we have been on the m14 when it fails to accelerate while merging. we have been at the a stop light and it try to lurch forward when we were stopped. every 6-9 months we need to have the transmission serviced at our local dealer. the car shutters upon acceleration, if it accelerates at all. it lurches and shutters, consistently every 6-9 months. we reached out to ford, directly, in july of 2017, and received no support, no help and no acknowledgement that maybe, just maybe we had a bad car. we've been told, consistently, every time they replace the burnt out transmission clutch and reprogram the transmission module that "this is the fix. they have the "bugs" worked out this time". i have copies of most of the repairs and the correspondence with ford global customer service from july of 2017

Ford focus began leaking fluids due to a main seal issue. automatic clutch/transmission shutters, jerks, vibrates and lurches at low speeds or on hills. *tr

This vehicle should be deemed unsafe. i bought this car last year and from the get go, the transmission just didn't seem right. the car would jolt unexpectedly and would have issues going through gears. i was told to just let the car break in more and finally after about a year i have had enough. now when i try to push the gas, there is a delay for the gears to engage, which have almost resulted in 2 car accidents. this car should be taken off of the roads immediately. going on the highway seems to be ok, but your lower gears the car jolts, makes loud sounds, and will randomly accelerate and go to high rpm's. i was told i needed a new clutch and seals and that the parts would take over 30 days to arrive on 08/24/2015. i informed the shop that i did not feel safe driving this car, and they informed me a rental would not be supplied for the nature of this issue. this could potentially lead to deaths so needs to be addressed immediately.

When starting from a start, the vehicle frequently jumps, surges, and occasionally stalls for several seconds. my wife was nearly hit from behind when entering an interstate highway when the vehicle stalled for several seconds.

While in a median turn lane, i accelerated forward to turn left from a complete stop. as soon as i reached the middle of the road, the automatic car slipped out of gear and in to neutral, leaving me at almost a dead stop in the middle of a busy, uphill road. while trying to get the car back in gear, i was almost rear ended by two cars coming up the hill. luckily they were paying attention, but had to swerve in the next lane to avoid me. i put my car in "select shift" mode and manually switched to 2nd gear. it was the only way the car would go back in gear. the ford dealership service department has it now, needless to say, as i don't feel safe. i have also been experiencing a grinding noise and shaking/surging when accelerating from a complete stop in this vehicle. i believe this is related to the incident that occurred. *tr

When taking off from a stop the car would jump/shudder at take off. when turning left in addition to a shudder you would hear a clunking sound. when the roads are wet and you try to turn the car shudders and slides on the road. going down the road in rush hour you would be shuddering all the way down the road. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop, the engine stalled without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the dealer diagnosed that the clutch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 2,000. updated 7/13/15*cn

My 2014 ford focus is a piece of junk! the transmission slips and shudders all the time. it's like it doesn't know what gear to be in at low speeds. to me this is a very dangerous car. very unpredictable!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle jerked violently when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the diagnostic results were not disclosed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 200.

This is my third ford focus se in less than a year. my first was a manual transmission and after a few hundred miles i had difficulty getting the stick into reverse. i took it to the dealer who after a day of testing told me nothing was wrong. they were never able to re-create the problem but it always came and went over time. i eventually traded it back in for the automatic early 2014. the car drove like a dream until 600 miles the car was in drive while going 45mph and all of a sudden it acted like it was in neutral. the motor would just rev but there was no power to the wheels. i pulled off the road and selected park, drive and reverse but they all acted as neutral.... the dealer came and picked the vehicle up and did some sort of reset on it in the parking lot. the car then drove but they still took it with them to the dealer. the next day they told me they drove and tested the vehicle on a machine and all the parameters were fine....i told them "you reset my car before testing so ofcourse its acting fine now." i told them i did not want the car back and nor did i want another ford focus. mind you i had to carry negative equity from the first one to this one. the dealer agreed to buy the vehicle back at its reduced sticker price only which left me with a substantial amount of negative equity yet again which the only vehicle on the lot that could hole it was of course....a ford focus...i am now in my 3rd 2014 focus se and it hesitates and jerks from time to time and once the transmission fault light came on but disappeared after i turned the car off and then back on...this car is unsafe and has caused a burden on me financially. i am an active duty military member and all i wanted was a safe car to get me to work. i pleaded for them to just take the car back and settle the negative equity they created...ford did not care. *tr

Vehicle stumbles when attempting to accelerate on to a freeway. by "stumble" i mean lost power as i pressed on the accelerator. i came inches from being rear ended by a semi tractor trailer. this incident has happened 4 other times since. very, very dangerous.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission and the clutch needed to be replaced. the parts were not available for the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that she would be called back. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

Severe transmission shudder when applying gas after stopping. it has been diagnosed that it needs a new clutch.i am first owner of car and this clutch has been replaced before. this is a bad purchase that ford should either exchange or refund for.

Loses power during acceleration from dead stop or onto freeway, transmission bucks and does not engage from first gear to second gear in alleged automatic transmission. slips into neutral while the car is in motion. dealership said that ford is aware of the problem, but has no plans for a long term fix.

At around 24,000 miles our 2014 focus transmission starting shuttering during take-off, most notably between 1st and 2nd gear. it is unpredictable and sometimes dangerously hesitant to get going. you had better hope the day you really need the car to move it does; but not surge unexpectedly. the most frustrating point is ford says it's normal. normal! i have driven cars with automatic and manual transmissions for over 35 years never, has this been normal!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own and down shifted suddenly to approximately 45 mph. in addition, while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. a mechanic diagnosed that the transmission needed to be serviced and the clutch replaced. the transmission was serviced and the clutch was replaced approximately three times within a year and half time frame. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.

When starting off from a stop, wheels have a jerky and shuttery feeling like i took off too fast even though i don't. also, when accelerating the rpm's go up way too fast and come down slowly. *tr

My 2014 ford focus began shuddering almost immediately after i bought it, which was may 2014. i took it to my ford dealer to explain. i was told it wasn't a problem and i should continue driving it. the shuddering continued. it normally happens when pulling out from a stopped or near stopped position, on flat and inclined surfaces. i took it back to the ford dealer once again. they said they adjusted a few things and i would be fine. took it back a 3rd time and they said they had to order a new clutch. scheduled an appointment to have that done. it worked fine for a few months, but i was back at the dealer multiple times with the shuddering and transmission/clutch issue. it has been replaced twice in my 2014 ford focus. i went back again to complain of same issue, i was told my warranty ran out and they could only replace clutch if i paid for it!!! i still drive it daily, with the shuddering. worried at every stop, i hope the car doesn't stall, speed up or cause an accident!!! it occurs on city streets, ramps onto highways, at traffic lights, stop signs and yields. car is usually going from stopped or slow speed going straight or turning. please help me!!!

This car is just over a year old. we have been back to the dealer four times to remedy the problem. the problem persists. the vehicle bucks, shutters and looses power while trying to accelerate. while on the mass pike, this occurred while in heavy traffic. (stop and go). the vehicle was almost rear ended and the vehicle almost struck the car in front on many occasions. the hesitation, then sudden acceleration is not safe.

There is a grinding noise and shuddering issues with the vehicle. the car has very poor acceleration at times as the transmission seems to slip. now at 10,000 ford is going to replace the clutches. however, i am still driving the car as the parts are back ordered so i assume this is a common issue. *tr

In july i purchased a new 2014 ford focus for my son. immediately he complained about it being sluggish and it shifted when it shouldn't and didn't shift when it should. in august he was involved in an accident when he backed into a parked car. the event cost me $525. he shifted from reverse to drive and pressed the accelerator but his car kept rolling back until it struck a car. last week was the first time my wife or i drove his car. when she returned she said that she would never drive the car again. she reported the same transmission and shifting problems my son had mentioned. when i drove it to the dealer i put the car in reverse and backed out of the driveway. after i was in the street and totally stopped i put the car in forward and pressed the accelerator. nothing happened. i checked the gear indicator and pressed the accelerator again. nothing happened. after sitting iin the the middle of the street for several seconds the car finally moved. it was very sluggish and within the first 100ft. it shifted at least 3 times. performance like this continued every time i started from a dead stop. i spoke with the service rep about what i had just experienced. he said that the transmission was doing exactly what ford says it was designed it to do. he said he had personally scheduled over 20 2014 focus cars into the shop to check the transmission because of the same complaints. he said ford has a set of tests and if the car passed those tests they wouldn't do anything. he said every 2014 focus he and the other 7-8 reps had scheduled for the tests had, by ford's instructions, passed the tests. i sincerely request that you force ford to do a recall on these cars. noting the large number of complaints the cars obviously have very serious safety issues, especially their failure to shift when the driver takes the action to make them shift. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while the vehicle was at a complete stop, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle jerked, stalled, and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. in addition, the contact experienced a failure with the gear shifter changing gears. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (monaco ford, 767 new london turnpike, glastonbury, ct, 06033,) where it was diagnosed that the e-vap chamber failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
