Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Ford Focus

Transmission has stuttered between first and second gear for the entire time i have had the car. i have gotten one new transmission and have had it serviced numerous times. this is not a one time issue - it has happened for the entire time i have had the car and i am the single owner of the vehicle.

Consistent grinding noise at about 2000rmp 2 or 3 gear with decrease in power. ford says this is normal. loss of acceleration can not be safe. *tr

Since new, this car surges, jumps, and stalls for several seconds when starting from stop. it does not do it all the time but occasionally. this is especially dangerous when entering fast moving highway traffic. the car has stalled several times in the last 3 years almost causing an accident when entering fast moving traffic from a stopped position. i believe several models of the 2014 fords have this problem. it definitely has a transmission problem but i believe there may also be a fuel problem, perhaps the fuel pump. it is just a matter of time before this problem kills someone. can?t we require ford to fix this problem? i have had this car in two different dealerships trying to get it fixed on several occasions. one ford employee told me that ford would only fix the transmission if it is making a loud grinding metallic sound. i had the car tested at one dealership and they said the transmission failed their test and they would repair it. i left the car with them for several days and when i came to pick it up they said it had passed their test this time and they would not repair the transmission. the employee that had told me they would fix my car was no longer with them. i am not sure of the exact dates when the car stalled almost causing an accident so i will give you my best estimate on your form. as an individual, i obviously have no power to require ford to do what is right and fix my car. you are the only entity with this power. won?t you please require ford motor company to fix this problem before someone is killed? thank you for your assistance. My car jerks and jumps everytime i take off, from a driveway, stop sign, stop light, etc. feels as though the transmission has a default, like it is going to fall out . i checked, there are no recalls, when i have it serviced, i bring it to their attention. they just tell me there are recalls. when i tell them i have never received a notice, they respond, you will. i feel i am ignored. this has been going on since, i bought the car, almost 2 years ago. april 2014. i know it had been sitting other than their lot for quite some time.

Transmission grinds and shudders starting from 0 mph, into second gear, and also sometimes into third gear. this is not a safe transmission.. the problem is only getting worse, and i can't imagine what the transmission will feel and sound like at 2,000 miles.. *tr

This vehicle has driven erratically since i picked up the car at the end of march 2014. the vehicle sometimes idles rough especially when engine is cold. the automatic transmission shifts erratically and is not smooth. it drives very jerky and sometimes feels like it is bouncing at low speeds. car will lurch forward or backward after stopping, which is a safety issue at stop lights/signs and in parking lots. i love the design, but i am so disappointed. i had my prior car for 14 years and now i feel i am stuck with this one for 14 years. it makes me very upset to think about it after saving for so long to buy a new car. the dealer tells me nothing is wrong. i'm embarrassed to have a passenger for fear they will think i am such a poor driver. the car bogs and feels like it is being held back between 35-45 mph when it should be shifting. i have seen other similar complaints on the internet and ford should recall these cars and fix the transmissions. *tr

The transmission sputters when taking off from a dead stop. at a constant speed the car shifts into a higher or lower gear. noises are made grinding noises when changing from 1-2-3 gears. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle jerked. in addition, the accelerator was depressed and the vehicle accelerated in excess. the vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times who diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the contact stated that while at a stop light, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and as the vehicle accelerated in excess, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the gears in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 1,000. the vin was unavailable.

The car's transmission has acted up almost since the very beginning when i purchased the vehicle. this was my very first brand new car and was unaware of the car sounds and how it feels when driving it. however, a problem in the transmission started getting more noticeable as time passed by, suddenly it would slip and hesitate at low speeds. i couldn't believe it since i've had the car for only a few months. i recently took it to the ford dealership and all they did was reprogram the computer and gather information for the ford manufacturer. now the car is even worse than before and doing things it did not do before i took it in. i want the ford manufacturer to buy back this vehicle; i don't feel secure in it anymore and i don't consider it a reliable way of transportation anymore. i'm strongly considering not to go for another ford vehicle ever again, i'd rather go with other makes and models. my experience with ford had been bad, i had this car for only a year and only 11,000 miles and i'm already dealing with the transmission. *tr

I have the same issue as everyone else with the stuttering shifting. i complained about it within a day of first purchasing the vehicle and was told that is how the car is supposed to shift, they would not even look at it. i was told that i just have to accelerate through it. i have learned not to put myself in a position where this may threaten an accident for me but it is still a huge safety concern where i have to constantly think about how the vehicle will perform pulling out into traffic and typically wait for a larger opening just in case the car wants to act up. *tr

Transmission problems since the day i purchased it(3/31/2014). it hesitates from a dead stop or in motion, shutters when accelerating from a stop. slips out of gear from a dead stop or in motion. after i brought it in for a recall (1/18/2017) it now slips out of gear and dealer says it needs a new clutch for $2,000 when it did not have that issue before the recall. i drive 95% highway. car has 76,000 miles on it. it's an automatic. i've had multiple cars with automatic transmissions in them and they had over 200,000 miles on them with no issues. i believe this transmission is defective and ford needs to replace it. i have brought the car in several times beginning with the first week i had it with transmission problems. it would have been in a lot more but they stated this is normal. i now have a car i can't drive nor have $2,000 to fix it. i take very good care of my cars and expected this to last longer than 3 years before a major repair. now with this known issue, my $30,000 vehicle that i paid for only 3 years ago is only worth about $6,000 on a trade in. i still owe $12,000 on it. how is this normal or fair. repairing a defective transmission is not a solution since it will fail again. it needs to be replaced. is it true that ford knew about these defective transmissions yet still installed them? this is not fair to us as consumers to knowingly be sold a defective unsafe vehicle. please consider placing a recall on these vehicles as they are unsafe to drive in their current condition.

When moving from a complete stop or rolling slowly the car shakes, makes grinding noises; vehicle hesitates and vibrates also the transmission does not shifting properly. i am worried when i try to merge onto a highway from a side road, what is this car going to do. is it going to throw its fit and hesitate and shake or is it going to move somewhat smoothly. i never know how the car will act. i do not believe this is very safe that this car hesitates. moving from a stop sign or stoplight okay (irritating) but trying to merge out into traffic not so well (deadly even). ford says it?s within specs and okay both at their dealership and ford customer service. ford customer service says it?s normal to have some hesitation and shaking to me doesn't?t seem right. the dealership says it an ongoing problem ford won't deal with. i can't even get rid of my car as i try to trade it in and i get laughed at by other dealers. what can be done? *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was serviced twice under warranty and repaired per tsb: 13-6-10; however, the remedy failed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000.

When i accelerate the car shakes because the transmission does not want to shift. i understand it is a duel clutch system but it shouldn't shake the whole care and hesitate to shift. i have taken the car back numerous times and they said they fixed the problem but a day later the problem comes back. now there is a grinding noise i hear all the time when i'm driving. i also filed a lemon law and they said it does not meet the lemon law standards according to my state. i'm going to take it in again for the fourth time so they can "fix" the problem and if they don't then i'll file another lemon law!!! *tr

On several occasions (while pulling into traffic). from a stop the transmission revs but car will not accelerate. this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. this car was purchased new for my daughter so she would have a safe reliable vehicle to drive to school. a transmission causing a loss of acceleration while in normal driving conditions is not safe or reliable. *tr

I started hearing a weird noise from the front end of my car. it's like a grinding noise...sounds like aluminum cans being crushed. doesn't matter where i drive it, flat surface or uphill it makes the same noise.this happens between 18 to 21 mph. also, after i make a full stop it would skid, sometimes shakes even just a little tap on the gas pedal. it's dangerous enough that i almost hit a car in front of me. driving on the freeway; sometimes it losses power / won't accelerate. the car can't keep 55 mph it goes slower until it reaches 48 mph. i don't feel safe driving the car. *tr

I purchased this car new and the transmission has had issues from day one. transmission chatters, surges, and jumps out of gear and then bangs back in sitting still or driving. the vehicle only has 21k miles on it. they have done numerous updates to make them work properly and they still don't work. i am 61 years old and have been a car enthusiast my whole life and this is the most dangerous transmission i've ever owned. i had told ford service 6 months after i owned it that this transmission should have never been put in a production car. of course nobody cares, everybody got there money now. it's a shame people have to die to fix a problem that everyone that owns one and including ford already knows exists.

Two weeks after i bought this car i noticed it jumps and stutters feels like the emergency brake is on when taking off. after being in the shop twice and having the clutches replaced it has now started doing it again and it has only been a week. its really scary when you are driving down the road and need to go and the car wont go because the transmission. *tr

I slowed down to make a left turn across a traffic lane and the transmission would not work. it finally kicked in and i barely missed being struck by an oncoming car though i had plenty of space originally. these vehicles are dangerous as the transmission is unpredictable. i have repeatedly had similar issues since this time but ford tells me this is 'normal' behavior. someone is going to get killed in these cars. do your job and make ford fix the transmission. *tr

tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while accelerating from a red light at 4 mph, the vehicle jerked forward as the clutch slipped. the vehicle was taken to ramsey ford located at 1233 telegraph rd, rising sun, md 21911 where it was diagnosed that the clutch had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred two more times. the vehicle was taken to ramsey ford each time, given the same diagnosis, and given the same repairs. the failure then recurred a third time and the vehicle was taken to a dealer located at 1701 belair rd, bel air, md 21014, where it was diagnosed that the clutch had again failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

When making turns, driving uphill or accelerating, the car makes a grinding noise. i also noticed my car jolting forward at times or making a sound like i'm stuck in gear while driving. i called the dealership and they said it was the clutches slipping. after the fix, my ( i believe my transmission) car is still jumping. this has serious repercussions, especially in traffic when it is stop and go. when in traffic, my car has jolted forward causing me to stop at far distances from the car in front of me in case it happens. *tr

2014 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to vehicle transmission shutters on acceleration. *smd *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 10 mph and engaging the brakes, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. the failure occurred four times. the dealer was unable to locate the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 15. updated 11/21/14*cn the consumer also experienced a transmission shifting problem. updated 01/08/15

When stopped upon acceleration the clutch slips/chatter occurs especially when engine/drivetrain warm. problem becomes worse in warmer weather and more consistent.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. after attempting to drive, the vehicle reached first and second gear, stalled, but continued to roll. the dealer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was operating as designed. the contact mentioned that the failure was progressing and felt unsafe driving the vehicle. the failure mileage was 40.

Between first and second the gear the car shudders while trying to shift resulting in loss of power, no acceleration control, and discomfort. this is a major safety issue that has not been addressed by ford. they continue to say that it is supposed to be like that but did not inform me when i purchased the vehicle that it would do this.

I bought my car new back in feburary 2014. it does all kinds of things!! it does not shift right. it jerks, slips, revs high. if you need to accelerate it doesn't ever gear down correctly, either too much or not enough. it has completely stalled at intersections and would not move. it would not even rev up. i had to have it towed. it has accelerated into traffic at a red light, twice!! and each time did not have brakes. my children were in the car and it was a near miss. my children could have been killed!! i have had it at my ford dealership 5 times!!! yes 5 times!!! each time it runs fine and does not do anything wrong while they are checking it out. the manager of the service dept states it is like a smartphone and once you cut it off it resets so this is probably why they can't find anything wrong with it by the time they get to it. i do not feel safe driving this car. but it is my only car. i don't know what to do. my dealership state they cannot do anything. help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

The transmission hesitates when stopped then to accelerate. it has caused me to almost have a few accidents. the front suspension makes noises . ford can't seem to fix either issue. i know a lot of other focus owners are having issues.

My 2014 ford focus has a 6-speed transmission that lurches and/or shudders and/or hesitates when trying to slowly accelerate - almost like someone driving a stick shift that never has one before. this happens if you are stopped and try to very slowly accelerate - could easily cause an accident while creeping up to whatever may be in front of you. or - it happens if you are going at a slower rate (less than about 15 - 20) and want to just speed up a little. these problems cause many hair-raising events for me - especially in tight, rush hour traffic........... >>>>>>> the above problems have been happening since my car was brand new with 16 miles (and the other 2014 ford focus 6-speed transmission cars that i test drove acted exactly the same). i asked my salesman about it and he said that it was the how the transmission works. i have 4,000+ miles on it now and the same things are still happening. i will complain to the service writer about this "problem" when i take it in for its first visit to the service department for an oil change........ >>>>>>> as a p.s. - this ford focus gets less of an average fuel economy (28 mpg since first fill-up) than my 2010 ford focus (31 mpg since its first fill up). *tr

2014 ford focus with auto transmission. this problem started from day 1 when i bought it and continues to present. car shudders under slow acceleration - like from a stop or slowly going over speed bumps or after making a turn or going slow in school zone or going slow in any speed restricted area. it is almost like someone that is learning how to start out from a stop with a manual transmission (feels like gas, brake, gas, brake, gas brake).

Transmission slippage, bucking, kicking, jerking, rough engagement, sudden acceleration, delay in downshifts, shuddering and delayed acceleration. *tr

When you step on the gas the car hesitates then makes a grinding sound and lurches as the transmission engages. the problem has existed since we purchased the car its been in the shop multiple times, each time we get it back the problem still exists. this is completely unacceptable as we use it for a drivers education car!! the dealership was aware of this problem and they are just as culpable as for is for putting out an unsafe vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while accelerating after a stop sign, the vehicle jerked violently without warning. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be reset. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100.

I immediately noticed that the car seemed to be slipping gears/transmission. i put the car in reverse and it acted like the emergency brake was on and it wasn't. when accelerating the car hesitates, shutters, slips gears and stalls. i have had the car completely stall out in drive and in reverse. i'm afraid to pull out into traffic unless it is completely clear. i called about the issue and was told that it had to learn my driving habits. well i now have 7000 miles on my car bought in feb 2014 and it is worse than ever. today i took it into the shop for a "computer update". then was told it's more than that and that they would have to keep my car because of clutch. it's a new car and i shouldn't be afraid to drive my car and get hurt. what are you going to do when the car lunges out into traffic or stalls when i pull out because it has a "computer update" issue and i'm killed? the service tech told me that he himself had owned one and got rid of it because of the issues. i want someone to contact me about this asap. it's not normal to have a new car that won't accelerate and stay in gear. *tr

Transmission constantly shudders and grinds. tries to shift gears when in cruise control. engine tried to stall. very loud metallic noise. returned car to dealership in february and was told it was all normal. second time i was given a piece of paper explaining "normal" noises. none of which my car was making. third time they re-programmed the transmission. car is being taken back to dealership for same problems this wednesday. ford has known of these dangerous problems since the 2011. yet they continue to knowingly sell dangerous cars. and no one does anything. *tr

Upon launch of vehicle, the dps6 transmission shudders violently leaving me and my occupants prone to danger. the car is undrivable for the 1st 3 seconds you apply the gas. this issue, even after their initial "fix" has done this from mile #01. 90,000 miles, 5 years, safety of everyone driving these vehicles is compromised daily.

Car stutters and almost stalls out when starting from a complete stop. the problem is worse the hotter the temperature (ie 90 to 100degs bad stutters). *tr

The transmission in my 2014 focus skips/hesitates/grinds!!! when i go to accelerate at low speeds my transmission will skip and cause the car to buck and when i go to accelerate to get to a higher speed the engine will rev out but the car does not move. this can be a serious problem when trying to accelerate onto a highway. my overall satisfaction with this car is if had to go buy another commuter car... i would not buy this car nor would i recommend it to anyone! i have emailed the ceo of ford and called and have yet (and dont expect) a response. why is there no recall? what can be done to get a recall?

2014 ford focus transmission noise, 38,000 miles. car has a grinding noise at low speeds ( under 40 mph ) car will lurch forward unexpectedly cause loss of control. car will roll backwards while the transmission is in the drive position on an incline. very concerned with the safety of this vehicle. not to mention the resale /trade in value of this car is declining with every bad report issued. i would like to see ford recall these cars and correct these issues before someone gets seriously hurt driving one of these defective vehicles. *tr

Transmission jerks and grinds at 2200rpm in first gear, grinding noise while going up hills, transmission shakes and jerks when shifting from first to second, very rough and unpredictable shifts, shifts into higher gears way to soon then will downshift or go into neutral, hesitation and vibration from launch, transmission slips at random and will not downshift , transmission surges under acceleration ....steering seems to have a mind of it's own when turning on to street the steering wheel wants to stay in whatever position you have it turned and is very hard to keep straight on highway..rattling noise like something is loose coming from front passenger area when going over bumps or while sitting at idle it can be heard has been to the shop three time s for rattling noise and it is still not fixed and has been in the shop for the transmission four times and every time they tell me the don't experience it or it's just the way it is or that i am driving the car wrong...i have a wife and a three year old and i am terrified for then to be in the car. *tr

Vehicle is equipped with ford's 'automatic/manual hybrid' transmission. vehicle began stuttering about a month after purchasing. purchased vehicle brand new in january with 44 miles on it. when accelerating from full stop, vehicle shudders as if there were issues with the air intake, fuel, or transmission. took vehicle back to two separate ford dealerships (including where vehicle was purchased) and was told that that's just how it runs. previous car was a manual. whomever is operating the clutch under the hood, needs a lesson in driving! feels like vehicle is going to stall every time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the mechanic informed that the vehicle functioned as designed. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Since i have had my 2014 ford focus it has had major automatic transmission issues. while driving at slow speeds, the transmission will over rev the engine, and this sometimes makes the vehicle unsafe when braking. the car will roll back on hills, and it often makes a strange rattling noise from under the car while the car is trying to change gears, the shift points are not where you suspect them to be, and will also behave oddly. i have had a part in the transmission replaced and on an additional visit, have also had the transmission reset to factory specifications. this issue is ongoing. i have an appointment to have an internal part within the transmission replaced for the second time at the dealership. this issue is starting to become a safety concern, and needs to be addressed! *js

After purchasing this car brand new from a ford dealer in dayton, oh in december 2013, i have experienced a violent shudder of the car when initially accelerating from a stopped position. i went back to the dealership after 1,500 and was told that this is normal for this car and that not to worry about it. i currently have 94,000 miles on the car and have returned to the dealership every 10-15k to inquire of a fix for the car. around 60,000 miles in they finally said that they had a software update for the fix. they performed this update and the issue went away for a few weeks but returned shortly after.

I have a 2014 ford focus se hatchback. it was bought brand new in august 2013 and paid in full. i was back at the dealership at less than 15,000 miles because of the grinding, stalling, hesitations, and jerking coming from the transmission while driving, stopping, and acceleration. my clutch has been replaced twice and i have been back to the dealership countless times, for a "computer reset". the jerking, shuddering, grinding, and stalling have yet to cease and it's becoming more of a pain to drive the car on a daily basis. all of the servicemen say the same thing: "it will adjust to your driving or it's supposed to feel that way". i am currently waiting on a new clutch to have it replaced one again. i feel as if i am now stuck with this vehicle with no hope!

The shuddering clutch/transmission issue seems to come standard with these cars. i bought a 2013 titanium for my wife and i and we both immediately noticed the shuddering on take-offs. we were told by the dealer that the shuddering is caused by our method of driving, and were actually told to accelerate more from stops. we were told that this car is like having a manual transmission and has to be driven similar, huh, but i bought an automatic transmission and after driving for over 30 years i have to retrain on how to drive this car. we paid alot for this car and hope that ford takes care this problem and stop telling these dealership to tell the customer that they are driving the car wrong. the car occasionally jolts forward when shifting at low gear. wife and i are afraid of rear ending someone. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times due to a clutch assembly failure. the transmission jerked when the vehicle was started, and the vehicle lunged forward while at a stop and on a hill. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice to service the vehicle for two different recall remedies, which failed to remedy the failures. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v698000 (latches/locks/linkages, structure). the manufacturer indicated that the parts may not become available until mid 2017. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was unknown. vin tool confirms parts not available. updated 12/20/16*lj updated 12/22/16.*jb

Every time i have to take it back to dealer for transmission repair or recall its worse than before they worked on it. every time i take off it jumps & jerks, every time i remove my foot from accelerator it down shifts.

When accelerating from a stop vehicle shutters, grinds and jolts forward. when turning a loud grinding noise comes from the transmission. after taking the car to the dealership the problem is still not fixed. i have been waiting for the parts to come in for two months. i am concerned for the safety and drivability of the vehicle. *tr

My car was not fixed. the car continues to hesitates or putters while driving. i was wondering if the government could file a class action suit against ford concerning this problem. i talked to a representative at corporate office and that person seems to not be concerned. he told me that the only open recall was concerning the door latch. recalls were vin specific. how outrageous is that. please help me with this problem. i am a faithful ford purchaser. ford should be held accountable for its product. can an recall be reissued due to lack of effectiveness? thank you for your time and response. i don't know when the problem first started. *tr
