We have classified the 1052 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
The vehicle has experienced numerous transmission issues from shuddering, stalling, jerking, rolling back, grinding, jumping forward and improper shifting. the vehicle has been at the dealership numerous times with various clutches replaced, software installs and other parts replaced. this has not fixed the issues and they keep recurring. this is unsafe and has even caused the vehicle to stall in the middle of an intersection. luckily, traffic was not close enough or it could have been catastrophic. i really hope ford does recall these vehicles or gives the unhappy owners a chance to turn the car back in through a vehicle buyback plan. there are so many of these complaints something needs to be done. *tr
The vehicle "popped" out of gear and became unresponsive to throttle. it took the vehicle about 20 seconds to recover. this is the 4th occurrence in 6 weeks. *tr
I purchased the car used with 25,000 miles, shortly after the car began shuddering very badly and did not accelerate correctly. the problem progressed to a loud metal grinding noise, the clutch was deemed to be bad and replaced. six months after the clutch failed again and was replaced and now a year later the clutch needs to be replaced again, making it the fourth clutch for a car with under 70,000 miles. ford has extended the warranty so it is covered however the part is on back order for 4-6 weeks. ford does not offer a replacement vehicle during this time. i do not feel safe driving this car with the transmission not working properly. this car also had the steering and suspension repaired within the first year of ownership.
Driving home on interstate 73mph trans shifted to neutral had to get off interstate before getting ran over with my speed decreasing. turned car off cranked back up trans worked again took to dealer in jackson, tn golden circle ford they said trans pcm needed to be reprogrammed and was fixed drove home today 11-22-2013 did exact same thing not good and not safe when you lose trans power at interstate speeds car now back at dealer waiting to see what they come up with this time. i am a ase certified mechanic and work on vehicles for a living this one still under 100,000 mile warranty but has serious and dangerous problem something needs to be done please help i apparently am not only one with this issue apparently this trans is junk and no one knows how to fix it so should be changed to something they know how to fix i drive 145 miles per day to and from work all interstate this was suppose to be a proven dependable vehicle that is why i purchased it also for the gas mileage which is good but now not feeling so safe driving it. *tr
Transmission problems that ford would never address! first problem occurred at 5,000 miles when the car would shut down by itself when trying to accelerate. the car would lose power then the engine would shut off and the instrument panel lights would light up. when you crank the car back up it was as if nothing happened. took it to the ford dealership and left it for a period of 25 days and they were unable to detect any problems. nothing was done to correct this problem and the dealership said that it was a normal thing. basically they blew smoke up my a** about it just so i would stop harassing them about it. they were not even concerned by the fact that this is a major safety issue and that it could have put my life in jeopardy. this problem still occurred but less frequently.
Transmission dangerously erratic, underpowered, bucking, lurching, fading out on acceleration from stand still. worse when temperatures are above 70 degrees f. ambient temp. have had all the service done as per customer satisfaction programs from ford. have had it services for transmission chatter issues at 46k, 54k, 59k, 77k. at 59k ford service replaced clutch with "f asy". clutch was supposedly replaced at 30k. dangerous when trying to speed up to enter traffic, traffic circles, or avoid contact with other vehicles. turning causes a great deal of shifting vibrations. regular automatic transmission mode is lagging and unresponsive in normal driving and lagging in city traffic conditions. from standstill i have had the car lurch and buck forward. also the car rolls backward in drive on a hill. this ford had marketed as a feature to not happen. ford announced the powershift transmission as " powershift will deliver the fuel efficiency of a manual gearbox with the convenience and ease of a premium automatic transmission ' the announcement goes on to say "powershift provides the full comfort of an automatic with a more sophisticated driving dynamic, thanks to uninterrupted torque from the dual-clutch technology, which consists essentially of two manual transmissions working in parallel, each with its own independent clutch unit. one clutch carries the uneven gears ' 1, 3 and 5 ' while the other the even gears ' 2, 4 and 6. subsequent gear changes are coordinated between both clutches as they engage and disengage for a seamless delivery of torque to the wheels." the product is the furthest from the description and dangerous on top of the rhetoric. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/21/ford-officially-announces-dual-clutch-powershift-gearbox-for-201/
While traveling down the interstate there was a sudden loss of power while pressing the gas and hesitation when power finally returned. *tr
The car tend to move backwards whenever i stop at a stoplight with a slight elevation. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the transmission slipped in and out of gear with extreme hesitation. the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an independent for diagnosis. an unknown trouble code was detected and the mechanic recommended the vehicle be taken to a dealer. additionally, the motor mounts fractured. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
This is an ongoing problem!!!! my vehicle vibrates when trying to accelerate from a complete stop. it hesitates and does not want to accelerate and it appears to not want to shift gears. does the same thing at low speeds as well.when pulling of from a stop position sounds like a rattling or something making a cranking noise. also car stalls at times. taking off from stop sign car stalls when gas is pressed. my car rolls back when taking off from an incline and a flat surface. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 35 mph, the engine light illuminated that the transmission was hot. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a faulty seal in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, when the vehicle was parked on a hill, it drifted in reverse. the vehicle was repaired twice for the same failure; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,324. updated 04/26/16*lj updated 09/06/16 *lj *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus se. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into gear. the failure was recurring. in addition, the vehicle would roll backward whenever stopped on an incline and would begin shaking, causing difficulty in controlling the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed a transmission failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
In october 2013, my car started shuddering violently every time i accelerated from a stop, going around corners and going up hills. on oct. 22, 2013, i brought the car in to the ford dealership for diagnostics and it was determined i needed a new clutch. i was also told that this is a very common problem happening at the time with my make/model. the car was "repaired" and it did not shudder until almost exactly a year later in october 2014. the shuddering was exactly the same as previously - shuddering violently every time i accelerated from a stop, going around corners and going up hills. i brought my car into the dealership on march 25, 2015 and was told the transmission would have to be removed for repairs. i was also told that since so many ford owners are having this same problem, they are booked solid and cannot do my repair until middle of june 2015 (3 months from time of diagnostics). *tr
Transmission shutters, jumps, makes rattling noise. dealer reprogrammed it in oct. 2013. did better for a while. now it is worse, and makes a rattling noise upon acceleration. took in on march 15th, and was told there is nothing they can do. they said it is normal. it performed ok the first year. now it is getting worse. *tr
Car transmission is faulty, was repaired by ford but still defective, have brought in for multiple repairs but still, not working properly, and transmission has slipped out of gear when pulling into traffic. im personally scared to drive this car and do not trust it while pulling into any kind of traffic situation. *tr
This is an automatic transmission. it continues to roll back while in drive and stopped on any simple incline. brought it to dealers and they continue to say that this is normal. this is dangerous issue. *tr
I was slowing down to pull into a freeway on ramp turn lane, and the car suddenly lurched. it kept doing this over the course of 3 months on and off when we would drive at slower speeds. we took it into the ford dealership, and they said it was a computer reprogramming issue. they reprogrammed the computer today, but i'm extremely doubtful that it's going to fix this based off of what other people have stated happened to them. they jerked around with us and told us that it was in warranty for the power train, but if it was anything else we would owe $110 for them to just look. we bought the car used in september 2013, and had problems with it starting in october 2013. it had 43,000 miles on it when we bought it, and has about 47,000 now. my last car was a 2004 hyundai elantra, and it had very few problems for the 9 years i had it. i only stopped driving it because of a semi-truck driver's illegal actions that totaled it. i regret wasting my money on this piece of junk. *tr
The vehicle will not always shift out of gear when accelerating or decelerating. the vehicle will shudder violently when shift even after the car has been warmed up. this has caused the vehicle to stall when coming to interceptions or when take off not catch into a gear. currently the transmission has been replaced once and reprogramed 3 times, still experiencing the same issues.
On-going issues with the transmission shudder, jerk, choking at lower speeds especially at about 15 mpg to 40 mpg. there has not been an accident yet but many close calls. during stop and go traffic, or making a turn from a stoplight, or in a construction zone where speeds are slower - driving this vehicle becomes an issue. there are time when the car will not move even with the gas pedal pushed, it jerks and chugs until the transmission kicks in causing a delay in acceleration, or it chokes as if it will die on the spot. these are all opportunities to cause an accident or to be hit because you cannot get your car to move. in detroit traffic is brutal - they do not stop for anything. i purchased the vehicle in may of 2012 - i only have 21,000 miles on the vehicle ( currently 10/15/14). i cannot trade it in since the vehicle valued so low. i cannot sell it since no one will buy a vehicle that drives the way it does. ford has provided a 7 yr. 100,000 mile warranty for the transmission but that is of no satisfaction to me. no one knows what the wear and tear will be as the car ages and someone dies because of it. these vehicles need to be seriously addressed. i don't drive the vehicle much because i do not feel safe - you cannot predict how much worse it is going to drive on any given day. dealer repairs do not fix the problem, it never goes ways and the car behaves badly every day - throw in a major meltdown for the really bad days. *tr
This car has been a lemon. ford has attempted to "fix" the repeated issue i am having with this car stalling out unexpectedly due to transmission failure. ford replaced the tcm but the car still is unreliable. the service advisor at the o'meara ford in colorado told me that this car is a lemon and that he has not seen a product from ford this bad in many years. he also said that he has advised his family to not ride or drive one of these cars as they are unsafe and dangerous! this car has stalled out while i am trying to make a left turn, in the middle of the highway, and in many situations that have compromised my safety and the safety of my fellow motorists. i feel that ford needs to buy this car back and replace it as it is clear that this car can not be fixed in any lasting way. i ask nhtsa to please step in and investigate these dangerous cars before someone gets killed! i absolutely hate my ford and will not by another.
Transmission started jerking, grinding and not shifting properly. car has been in the shop 6-8 times in the last year. the latest issue with the transmission was basically feeling like it went out of gear and the car had no power. dangerous when it happens going down the freeway at 70 mph and in traffic. definitely a safety issued and needs to be addressed. from what i see online the is happening with many, many people who have the 2012-2013 focus with the dual clutch transmission. someone is going to get hurt if they don't recall this car or make arrangements for a new transmission to replace the current one. *js
The vehicle's transmission has failed three times; twice it required a new clutch and seals, and once (most recently) it required a new transmission control module. in each case, the car either stalled while driving or became stuck in a gear (most recently, in reverse).
The transmission in our focus stutters and grinds when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the traction control warning light illuminated as the vehicle began to swerve independently before stalling. the vehicle was restarted but would only accelerate at very low speeds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission control module would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 82,000.
The car while being driven at low speed, in heavy traffic will shift into a lower gear allowing the motor to rev slightly, then as it engages the lower gear the car will accelerate abruptly. this happens when you are trying to move your foot from the gas to the brake. this happened several times in about a 20 min. span. this has also happened while i was trying to park, causing the car to climb onto a railroad tie being used as a stop at the end of the parking spot. *tr
Shutters/ grinding noise/ tugs and jolts at low speeds and up hills. when in bumper to bumper traffic message on dash, overheating transmission pull over wait 8 minutes. *tr
In september of 2013, i purchased a used ford focus for my teenage son. soon after purchasing, we realized the transmission seemed to be having problems. it was still under factory warranty, so we took it to a ford dealership to have it checked out and repaired. we were told that the computer programming needed to be reset, which they did, and that it would take driving it about 1000 miles for the car to "learn" the new setting, and then the problem would be fixed. the problem, by the way, is the car feels like it will stall out when you try to accelerate, particularly during initial acceleration such as after coming to a complete stop. this could put my son in danger if he's in a situation where he needs immediate acceleration (such as to pass) and the transmission doesn't perform. ford knows about this problem, and has even sent out a notice that they've extended the warranty on the transmission. yet they won't fix the problem. what's it going to take to get them to fix these transmissions? *tr
I drove approximately 1/8 of mile this morning and i stopped at a blinker light. when i proceeded to make a right hand turn, the vehicle lunged, clunked and the gears disengaged. none of the gears worked. i could not move forward, backward or even put the vehicle into "park" because it would roll backward down a slight incline. i had to engage the parking brake in order to keep the vehicle from rolling backwards down the hill. there was not a warning light, engine message or anything. the vehicle quit working and would not move in any of the gears. i had to coast the vehicle backward to a safe location, out of traffic. after turning off the car and waiting and restarting the problem has persisted. it was towed and is currently at the dealership awaiting repair. i have also experienced the "drift back" that other consumers have experienced and i am not sure if this is related, but this is still a relatively new car that should not be experiencing these types of problems. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while coasting downhill at 20 mph, the vehicle down shifted and was close to stalling. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to prevent the stalling but the vehicle then accelerated independently and crashed into another vehicle. a police report was filed however, there were no injuries. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 35,000. *updated 09-18-13 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was declared totaled.
The ford focus 2012 is a true lemon! it runs rough jerking movements esp in low gear. it has lack of acceleration. i bought this car new and have had it to the dealership four times only to be told its all normal for the 2012. however i feel its not normal! my last visit i was handed a sheet filled with '' normal'' things to expect! the dealership refused to allow me to trade it back in. i wrote to the ford motor co and i only got a very nice lady who just kept saying oh i am so sorry. they along with the willis ford dealer in smyrna de acted like it was just me with this complaint. after viewing the pages and pages of complaints most like myself i can see i am far from along. what can be done ? so far i see nothing being done about this serious problem. *tr
Transmission shutters, jerks, rolls back in park, sometimes you don't know if it going to work or just leave you sitting. a piece of junk!!! dealer works on it and it seems to get worse!! they say its part of the design. i bet no ford employees drive one!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle would accelerate or decelerate without warning. when the contact attempted to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle sputtered. the dealer diagnosed that the transmission and the computer chip for the transmission failed. the computer chip needed to be reprogrammed and the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired a total of three times; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 61,312.
The automatic transmission shifting is horrible with excessive shuddering and lurching. *tr
The vehicle shakes and shudders when taking off from a stop. it feels like the transmission is slipping and the clutch is constantly engaging/disengaging. this seems to be at its worst after the vehicle is hot from traveling at highway speed. in addition to the shake and shuddering, there is at times a lack of power when taking off from a stop. depressing the accelerator will increase engine rpm, but the car is sluggish to take off. when pulling into traffic, this can be a bit frightening because the car will not accelerate as quickly as you anticipate. it feels as though the transmission is in too high of a gear when taking off from a stop. you can hear the pull on the engine when this happens. these two issues have never occurred simultaneously. either the vehicle shakes and shudders when taking off from a stop or there is a lack of acceleration. never do they occur together. i have returned the car to the ford dealership multiple times and have had every software update available applied. i am told at every visit that the transmission is operating normally. i'm concerned that one day i will pull into traffic though and the car will not accelerate as expected resulting in an accident. the car currently has 93,000 miles on it.
As i was driving all of a sudden a display stating "stop safely now" came on. i pulled over and the car would not go any further. i had to completely turn it off, open and close the door, and restart it to make it go again. it has happened 3 times now in the past few weeks. *tr
2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to vehicle transmission issues. *smd on september 5, 2013, the consumer stated she started hearing loud grated sounds, when she turned corners. she took the vehicle to the dealer, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the sound. he stated the sound he did hear, was normal for that type of vehicle, because of the type of transmission that was in new cars. the vehicle continued to make the sound, until november 12th, when it became worse the consumer went to another dealer, who found a faulty clutch. the dealer informed the consumer it was not safe to drive the vehicle, so they provided her with a loaner, and informed her it would be several weeks before the part arrived. the parts arrived two months after the vehicle was left at the dealer.
There was an increasing variation in speeds as i tried to accelerate for merging onto major highway. thought the floor mat was stuck under the accelerator pedal, but it was not. problem continued at different times and different speeds. *js when i took the car in for service on 9/20/13, i described the problem to the service rep. he told me first that there was a service alert for this problem and would require 3 hours for the transmission to be re-programmed. i agreed to wait while the work was done. he returned shortly to inform me that there was a more recent service alert for this problem and that i would have to return at another time and leave the car for at least three days because it was likely the entire transmission had to be removed and re-built! and a rental car for that period would be at my expense since this is not an "official recall".this despite my having also purchased an extended warranty plan from ford. i left the car at the dealership on 9/25/13 and got a rental car at my own expense. later that day, i received a call from the service dept. informing me that not only would the entire transmission have to be removed and repaired but the clutch would have to be replaced. it would take "at least 2 additional days" for these repairs", "if we get the parts in" . i am now waiting to see how long it will be before i get my car back, while i pay for a rental car in the meantime.
I own a 2012 ford focus sel that has had multiple transmission issues along with an electrical problem relating to the steering wheel and a battery failure. the vehicle has had issues accelerating through 1st gear which was evident by extreme shuddering and shaking of the vehicle. this had put me into dangerous situations numerous times when trying to merge onto freeways as the vehicle hesitated to get up to speed in time. my transmission was replaced at 9,562 miles in sept. 2013. the shuttering and acceleration problems recurred at 21,904 miles in sept. 2014 and ford ran a system update to 'fix' the problem. they also replaced the steering wheel for electrical problems at this time. the acceleration issues continued for the next month and the clutch was finally replaced in oct. 2014. a couple weeks later the battery was dead 3 sundays in a row and was also replaced. ford has not been able to reassure me that these transmission issues will not be on-going. i continuously read others accounts online stating they are having the same issues i am having, and in many cases their dealerships are ignoring the issues and making excuses. please look into this matter. *tr
I have a 2012 ford focus electric vehicle. i have had it for less than nine months. in that time, we've had the "stop safely now" message six times. when this message happens, you have no option...the car shuts down completely, regardless of where you are. three times this has happened in traffic, without warning. today was the seventh time the "stop safely now" message appeared, stopping my car in traffic at a very busy intersection. so far, the response from ford has been minimal, they don't really seem to know how to fix it nor does the dealership seem too concerned. all instances of this message seem to occur while breaking. *js
Early 2013, experienced daily violent "shuddering" while accelerating from a stop, going around corners and going up hills and any kind of incline. ford service dept. diagnosed my car on 8/28/13 as needing a new clutch which was on back-order due to high-demand. on 9/17/13, my clutch was replaced. slowly the shuddering returned and march of this year (2015), it was again shuddering violently. on 3/26/15, ford service dept. diagnosed my car as needing the transmission to come fully out and be repaired. on 5/5/15, the transmission was removed and both input shaft seals were found to be leaking. the seals were replaced and the clutch assembly was cleaned. almost immediately thereafter, the car started shuddering again and on 8/14/15 as i drove with my toddler in the backseat, the car started shuddering and lost power as i was exiting the freeway and an alarm sounded inside the vehicle with a message on the dash that read " transmission malfunction - service now". on 8/17/15, ford service dept. diagnosed the transmission needed to again be removed and repaired which is now scheduled for 9/15/2015. please do not wait until someone dies before making ford deal with this very serious issue. many ford focus owners are losing power while driving on the freeway. this would be very scary, not to mention potentially very dangerous if this happened to me while driving the very busy l.a. freeways with my toddler to/from school/work every morning and evening.
Since we purchased the vehicle, it seemed to stutter when trying to go from a stop. i was told that this is normal for this transmission. but on august 24th, the transmission started to have even more problems. first the vehicle was having a hard time accelerating past 20 mph. then it started jerking back and forth, lunging to and fro. it was not shifting gears like it should have, and it felt like it was going to stall, so complainant had to pull over to avoid an accident and allow fast moving traffic to pass. after traffic had passed, complainant turned around to go back home, jerking and lunging the whole time going less than 20 mph. after leaving the car sit for several hours, the vehicle started up again, and seemed to be operating normally. however now the vehicle is having a harder time going up hills, and has trouble coasting. feels like something is dragging it down. this could be very unsafe, as the problem is not predictable, and could potentially cause an accident. a 2012 vehicle with 39000 miles should not be having transmission problems already.
I have only owned this 2012 ford focus for approx. 6 weeks. it has been hesitating, sputtering, and jerking upon acceleration and when driving at low speeds since the first day i owned it. at first it was intermittent but now it happens most all the time. when i stop and take off it feels like it is going to stall out. when on an interstate ramp i feel i cannot get up to a higher speed fast enough. i took it to the dealer for service. the dealer said that they would need to drop the engine, replace the seals (there is leaking around the seals) and replace the clutch. and, the seals are on back-order for 2 to 3 weeks! they say it is safe to drive and to let them know if it worsens (how can it get worse). they may say it is safe, but i sure do not feel safe or comfortable driving this car. i have read hundreds of complaints from other focus owners on this same issue. ford needs to recall these cars and listen to consumers. this is a defect that needs ford's ownership. i have been in contact with ford and have a case number. thank you. *tr
Shuddering, and bucking on take-off. hesitation and delay in acceleration. city streets, from intersections, and worsens while turning a corner and gently accelerating. known transmission issues with this model. problem is constant, and continuous.
While dirving our 2012 ford focuse which was bought brand new, the transmission would start to slip and chatter. it took longer to acceralate to speed. took to dealership on 19aug2012 and they calibrated the transmission. we drove the car until it started again two months later. took to dealership on the 22 nov 2013 to a different certified ford dealership and they had to replace a seal on the clutch which was allowing fluid to drip on clutch plate and allow to slip will driving. drove the car and it was working better. but over time the car started again and then got worse. took the car bake in because on the 9aug2015 i was driving 60 mph and the car started to slip again then it over heated and had a malfunction. i had lost all my gears on a highway at 60 mph. they replaced some parts and when 2 days of getting it back it is starting to slip again. i am calling dealership in the morning. this is not a safe car to drive unless they fix their transmission.
This is the first of 2 accidents, both caused by vehicle surging forward as i was pulling into a parking space. this form would not allow me to put but 1 accident date. second more serious accident, date 02/08/2014, will be listed separately. as i was turning into a parking space with foot on brake the car suddenly lurched forward mounting the concrete parking stop and ended up against a tree in the median. floored the brake pedal but engine continued to rev. damage to under side of car totaled $3494. ford dealership checked the computer and found engine overspeed code po219. could not duplicate incident and gave car back to me. 3384 miles later the 2012 ford focus repeated the lurching with more damage and personal injury. *tr
2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. *smd the consumer stated it felt as though the vehicle was loosing power and trying to stall out. she would try to accelerate and the vehicle would rev, but would not go, and when it finally did go, it was very jumpy and slow. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer five times for the same issue. the dealer stated the vehicle needed a computer upgrade. the dealer stated it would take a while for the upgrade to work, but it never did, and the problem worsened. the next time, the dealer stated the tcm needed to be replaced. the replacement of the tcm, made the problem even worse. the vehicle began jerking upon acceleration and it felt as though the transmission was slipping. *jb
I purchased the ford focus on 05/18/2011. i returned the car to jim snead ford, waynesboro, va on 07/06/2011 as the transmission was slipping, the car was bucking, hesitating on acceleration at full stops then jumping into intersections. the mechanic agreed the focus was shifting hard, attempted to fix it, could not after following the ford hotline. it still shifted harder than expected. the mechanic decided to drive another new focus off the lot and wrote on my service invoice that the new car off the lot drove as rough as my car. the focus continued to be a dangerous vehicle jumping, bucking, hestitating then jumping out into traffic and i continued to take it back to mr. snead who stated it was my driving, not the focus. i took that focus in almost every other month w/ the same complaints about the transmission for 2 years 2 months only to hear it was my driving, not the car. finally, the car was scaring me to death and i feared for my life and my two children that also drove the focus. i finally took it back to jim snead on 08/09/2013 after owning the new car for 2y & 2mo to trade it in for something safer. i paid $24,652.25 for that brand new focus and jim snead gave me a trade in value of $961.00 for a much safer car he said. i bought a brand new 2014 fiesta (yes, another nightmare from hell). i thought mr. snead was a friend, a reputable business man. i bought 2 used focuses from him since the early 2000s & they were fine. mr. snead knew my husband was ill in 2003 & i became a widow w/ two kids to raise. mr. snead and ford knew about those dangerous vehicles and furthermore, in 814 days of ownership i lost $685.55 per month in depreciation and payments! i was a teacher for heaven's sake w/ his wife, mrs. snead. he knew i did not have money to burn. next up--the focus i bought after trading in the focus.
At 12,738 miles i took to dealer and complained about sluggish acceleration. at 14,886 miles i took to dealer and complained about clutch shudder and they installed new clutch and input shaft seals and axle seals, reinstalled trany with new hardware. also complained that car would not start twice, on first turn of key. at 14886 miles, i was on highway accelerating from a stop. i got up to about 35 miles an hour and the car suddenly seemed to downshift, coming almost to a complete stop. then it was very slow to accelerate up to speed again. this happened at two more successive stop signs, causing the vehicle behind me to have to slow down suddenly to avoid running into me. i also complained about the car sometimes scooting on the pavement upon acceleration as if "burning rubber" or "peeling out" also complained that one time, i turned the key off and i could still hear some kind of noise in the dash like something was still "working" like a cd player or something, which i wasn't even using.
Ongoing and persistent issues with the transmission; hesitation, jerking, shuddering, grinding, lack of power. slow speed and stop-and-go driving results in very poor performance from the transmission. one occasion i did not have enough power to merge and had to pull over on the highway; the engine was revving but there was almost no power going to the wheels and a very loud grinding sound coming from the front. i have had the car into the shop twice to have the transmission worked on. they reprogram the software and it drives ok for a few weeks, then goes back to the original condition. the car in my opinion is unsafe to drive about half of the time. ford has failed to address my concerns or correct the issue. *tr
