Brakes have failed on my 2016 f150. the master cylinder reservoir has been very low twice in the past 2 weeks. i filled it completely, to full line, twice.
Driving down a hill with my family in the truck on a divided highway going approximately 50 mph. i went to apply the brakes for an upcoming stop light and the pedal went almost completely to the floor. at the same time a "brake fluid level low" alarm light turned on in my dash along with the parking brake engaged symbol. i had to quickly shift my transmission to manual and down shift the transmission from 6th gear all the way down to first gear to be able to safely pull off to the side of the road. when i checked, the brake fluid reservoir was below the minimum (min) level indicator. i later filled the reservoir to the max line and tested the brakes. the "brake fluid low level" warning light and the parking brake applied light went away and everything seemed normal. i tested the brakes and they seemed to be working. i then tested the vehicle out in a safe area and within minutes the brakes failed again and the lights came back on. at this time i parked the vehicle and referred to the factory repair manual to diagnose the problem. there were no visible leaks from any of the brake components including the calipers, brake lines or master cylinder. the manual recommended checking to see if any brake fluid was in the brake booster. the brake booster was nearly half full of brake fluid. at this point i replaced the master cylinder and brake booster as recommended by the factory manual. this is a know issue with 2013-2016 ford f-150's and there has been a factory recall on the 2013-2014 f-150's (16v345000). i feel that if i had not put the vehicle in manual and downshifted i would not been able to stop and could have caused an accident at the intersection. even after the repair of the brake system i do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle.
I went to stop/brake for slowing traffic on interstate when brake pedal went all the way to the floor, truck would not stop. truck after impact still traveled over 200 plus yards before coming to a rolling stop. how can the follow happen??? 'brake pedal going all the way down to the floor 'sudden loss of braking effectiveness 'complete failure of braking function
Driving on a bypass highway, the brakes failed, and i almost rear ended someone. light came on, added fluid, then again they failed. i have the vehicle at the ford dealership now. i have just over 40k miles on the truck, this repair better be covered by ford.
Complete brake failure occurred without warning except for a period of seconds during which "low brake fluid" warning light appeared. vehicle was operating normally at all times prior to event. 38,111 miles on vehicle. approx. 4 mile drive to highway, brakes working normally. while traveling 70mph (the legal limit there), warning light appeared. i immediately tapped brakes and found that pedal went all the way to floor. managed to get to shoulder without accident. drove gingerly to service station to examine. no leakage at calipers, on rotors or from any brake lines. brake fluid reservoir empty. had been full previously and vehicle well maintained. i filled reservoir with dot appropriate brake fluid, no change in braking ability. with pumping of pedal, no effect. with pedal all the way to floor, vehicle exhibited extremely attenuated braking (took well over 30 feet to slow from 10 mph to zero). truck to ford service department/bay. they told me that "we see one of these about every week" which i found shocking. they rapidly diagnosed problem as master cylinder failure with bleed of fluid into booster system (which is why no pressure, but no leakage of fluid externally). they replaced the master cylinder and the booster. this is a very dangerous problem. fortunately, i did not injure or kill anyone when brakes failed at highway speed.
I drove my truck to my farm without incident. after being parked for a while, my son-in-law got in to drive to a work area and immediately reported the brake pedal went to the floor. we checked the brake fluid level and it was almost empty, even though i had recently had the level checked as "full" at a change of oil and filter. it took two large bottles of brake fluid (at over $8.00 each, just to get it home (about 50 miles). i had to pump the brakes during this trip to get braking action and drive very carefully and slowly. the day before this happened i had towed a single axle trailer with an agricultural disc on it. had this quick loss of brakes occurred at that time, it likely would have resulted in serious injury, property damage, and even death. the shop where i took it replaced the master cylinder, the power booster, which had filled with fluid, and an o2 sensor, which had been damaged. the total cost was $1194.34. since all the parts were replaced with new ford brand parts, there is a likelihood that it will happen again. this is a real safety issue and merits a recall, as well as reimbursement to me of my expenses.
100% brake failure at highway speed. ford recalled previous model years for the same issue but failed to inform owners of later years that had the same parts installed. my truck was serviced at the ford dealer i bought it from 100 miles before failure. ford should be urged to recall and reimburse.
I am emailing you to both alert you of a situation and ask that you reach out to my father regarding what happened to him this morning. he owns a 2016 or 2017 f-150 with the 3.5 eco-boost. this morning as he was driving between 50 ' 60 mph south on hwy 111 in coming into livingston tn. he let of the gas preparing to veer right on the 111 bypass, his brake warning light came on and when he attempted to apply the brakes his foot went to the floor and the was absolutely zero there for him to stop the truck. luckily this happened about 6 am and there was no one on the road and it was in a place that he had room and time to shift down and decrease his speed and pull over. one mile further and this could have had a very different ending. he was on his way to pick up a boat.. so this was three hours later this could have had an extremely different ending. did i mention he 81 years old. there was little to no warning, the light came on just as he was getting ready to make his turn. this could have turned out very bad.
The brake fluid reservoir drains to empty and you loose brakes but there is no apparent leak in the engine compartment, under the truck, on the wheels, or at the brakes. refilled reservoir and did not drive and reservoir and 3 days later it was empty again.
While on the freeway, a warning message illuminated on the cluster "brake fluid low". concerned, i checked the braking function a few times slowing from my cruising speed of 78 mph to around 55 mph to test the braking function, and all seemed well. i decided to continue the remaining 15 minutes of my trip since the brakes seemed to be functioning correctly and there was no traffic, as it was 4:30am on a sunday morning, but i proceeded with caution. when exiting the freeway, i decided to brake early in the event there was a problem, but again the braking felt absolutely normal, not even the slightest hint of any brake loss. i then traveled about 11 miles with the cruise control set to 65 mph, there was no need for stopping or slowing at any point during this stretch. nearing my turn, i again decided it would be best to remain cautious and brake early. it was at this point that i could tell something was wrong, as the brake pedal had very little stopping power as i pressed the brake pedal completely to the floor, only slowing from 65 mph to about 25 mph over a distance approaching a quarter mile. after this, the brakes were completely out at this point. i have experience with moving trucks with no brakes, using only the emergency brake, so i felt confident continuing the short distance to my home using slow speeds (>15 mph), manually shifting the transmission for engine braking and using the emergency brake. i was able to get the vehicle home with no incident. inspected brake fluid reservoir, found it was empty but found no sign of a leak. i figured the master cylinder leaked internally, which the dealer confirmed. both parts needed for repair were on a national back-order, unavailable from ford. a little search on google reveals this failure is common on 2013-16 f-150. dealer located parts from other dealers stock, but vehicle was out of service 10 days.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. the contact stated that the brake warning indicator illuminated "low fluid" and the emergency brake indicator also illuminated when the failure occurred. while operating the vehicle, the contact depressed the brake pedal and it travelled to the floorboard. the dealer (henry curtis ford, 1120 auto center dr, petaluma, ca 94952, (707) 769-2310) indicated that the brake master cylinder and the brake reservoir may need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
Complete brake failure with no warnings
On 7/16/18 at approximately 0400, while on rt 95 s driving at approximately 68 mph, in stamford ct, i applied brakes and brakes failed. using downshift and e brake i successfully slowed down and took the nearest exit ramp. brought the vehicle to the nearest ford dealer. its reported that the master cylinder failed. looking on-line there is an apparent issue the 2015, 2016 v6 eco boost models where this failure has occurred. ford is currently evaluating whether to cover the repairs. this notification is for record purposes as on-line it appears that nhtsa is investigating these failures.
2016 f150 truck, 24,000 miles. while applying the brakes, the truck will stop but the pedal continues until it hits the floor. the brake pads are good, brake fluid is full. i am taking the vehicle to a dealership on 7-18-18. very unsettling to have a new truck and the brake pedal doesn't work correctly.
Drove the truck for about 2.5 miles with no issues and parked. as i backed out of parking the truck lost all braking capability. i was able to stop the vehicle using the transmission. the truck alerted me with a brake fluid light and the emergency brake light. no visible leaks under the hood, calipers, frame, engine compartment. towed to dealer... the truck has 28,100 miles. platinum 3.5 eco boost!
My 2016 ford f150 limited is 2 years old. the brakes started not working well and then the brake fluid light came on. i took it to the dealership and they told me the master brake cylinder was leaking and had to be replaced. i had to pay for this even though there is a recall for this same issue on other model year f150s.
Driving down 7hwy in leavenworth county kansas. pushed brake pedal down and low brake fluid light came on and brake pedal went to the floor. stopped a friends house and got brake fluid and it all got sucked into the brake booster. took it to the local ford dealer and had the master cylinder and brake booster replaced.
Being the driver of a 2016 f-150 crew cab 4x4 with 3.5 eco boost motor. i have been now been involved in two brake failure related collisions. one on june 20, 2017 and the other this year on july 3rd. the first brake related collision was on june 20th, 2017. i was stopped at a traffic light behind some other cars waiting on light to change. next thing i know i feel a slight bump hitting the car in front of me so i go to hit the brake again and inadvertently hit the accelerator ending up pushing the car in front of me into the car in front of it. which caused a 3 vehicle accident that day. now this july 3rd i was involved in a much serious accident due to brake failure. i was driving in far left lane approaching a traffic light that was red and cars in front of me stopped ahead. i went to hit my brakes to stop and the truck kept on get going in a forward motion without any indication the brakes were working. i tried to direct truck to the left side median to avoid a collision and while in forward motion i made impact with the car in middle pushing it into the first car up front that was involved in my second accident. my truck's middle and right front made contact with car in front of me hard enough to puncture gas tank on the left side of that car with my front mounted trailer hitch and push it into the 1st car's rear end. my drivers side steering wheel air bag deployed hitting me in the stomach area and seat belt faster on drivers side bruised my right hip, and neck ended up with some muscle strain as well. the driver of the most forward car went to the hospital with unknown injuries while i was tending to the local authorities investigation and my truck. the driver in middle car, the car i struck i know that their car was totaled with severe damage to both front and rear damage. weather clear and roads dry. there was no trace of skid marks on the road.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. when the brake pedal was applied, there was a total loss of brake power and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. the failure occurred intermittently and without warning. the dealer (greenway ford, 9001 e colonial dr, orlando, fl 32817, (407) 544-5252) was contacted, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: rq16001 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Sudden and complete loss of braking ability. driving 50mph. truck alerted to "low brake fluid." about 45 seconds later, i had no ability to brake other than the emergency brake.
I was driving and about half way to work i received a low brake fluid warning and then tried to brake and instantly had no braking power. how to slow down and attempt to pump the brakes to come to a stop. lucky i was on a fairly open stretch of highway without much traffic or stops.
Brakes went to the floor all of a sudden. i got a brake fluid low warning on the dashboard. truck is regularly serviced but after doing a little research i found that there were a lot of people experiencing what i have going on. i do not feel safe driving my kids in my truck rendering it useless. truck was stationary at the time of incident.
While driving my vehicle the low brake fluid light came on as i was pulling into a parking spot. i parked the vehicle and checked the brake fluid, it was well below the minimum level. since it stopped ok, i thought when i left i could just drive to a store and buy brake fluid. when i got in the truck 30 minutes later and started it the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. putting in drive i found that there were no brakes at all and used the foot emergency brake to stop the truck. i got a ride to a car parts store where i bought 32 oz. bottle of brake fluid. i poured more than half the bottle into the reservoir getting it up to the max line, started the vehicle, pumped the brakes and got brake pressure back. i drove back to my campsite which was 1.5 miles away. halfway there the low brake fluid indicator came on again. by the time i arrived after 1.5 miles, the brakes were almost useless and there was very little pressure under the pedal. i parked the truck and check the fluid, again it was well below minimum and i could hear what sounded like a vacuum leak. i filled the reservoir up to almost max again, pumped the brakes, got pressures back and looked for any leaks under the truck and found none. i pulled the truck back and forth, about a 100 feet, repeatedly to see if i could see a leak - nothing, but the level in the reservoir was going down. i drove the truck in around a 1/4 mile circle and by the end the brake peddle had lost most of it's pressure, still no leaks under the truck. when it got towed the next day there was no stopping power at all. i was fortunate that this did not happen on a highway or more high speed road or i would have been in a very dangerous situation. i'm submitting this complaint because i have seen that there is an investigation of brake failure on some years of these trucks.
On 6/2/18, after a night's stay in a walmart parking lot in our 5th wheel, our 2016 ford 150 pickup showed a low brake fluid warning light when i started the truck to leave. i put in dot 4 brake fluid and the light went out so we left. we had traveled only a few miles north on interstate 95 in south caroilina when the brake warning light light came on. when i pushed on the brake pedal, it went down to the floor with no braking. although we were in heavy traffic and going 55-60 mph, i put on my hazard lights and was able to downshift to about 5-10 mph. then with brake pedal down to floor, i was able to slowly stop our pickup and trailing 5th wheel. we were extremely fortunate that the traffic conditions did require emergency braking. we were also fortunate that we were only 10 miles from a ford dealership that determibed that the truck's master brake cylinder and booster were bad and needed to be replaced. our trip was delayed two days due to this issue and cost us over $750 dollars in repairs and lodging. this happened only 98 miles past my warranty period! when doing some research, i see that ford recalled its 2014 and 2015 f150's for the very same problems. it sure seems like some ( if not all) 2016s are having the very same problem. but by the grace of god, we could have been in a serious accident and hurt or killed. i am very nervous now driving this truck and my trust in ford products has been seriously damaged. i urge other 2016 - new 150 owners to be watching the brake fluid levels closely.
This morning 5/16/2018 at 7:30 am cdt, while taking my 6 year old son to school, my 2016 ford f-150 produced a "brake fluid low" warning light. the braking system was severely compromised and the pedal had to be depressed to the floor to stop the vehicle. i added 54 oz of brake fluid to get it to a dealership and the warning light continued to appear. as i was driving i had to go into manual mode to downshift to slow the car down so i could brake vehicle to a stop. full speed braking was impossible. was able to get to a ford dealer - they determined that the master cylinder was leaking and that the master cylinder and brake booster have to be replaced. this is consistent with prior model year recalls for this truck and engine type (3.5l v6 ecoboost). vehicle has 45k miles and out of warranty for this issue, so out of pocket costs are roughly $1100. service records will become available tomorrow when the work is complete. i can upload them at that time.
On may 4th my brakes totally failed. luckily i discovered this when i got into my truck to start it up from work. my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. i popped the hood and discovered the brake fluid reservoir empty. i am lucky that i was not driving when i discovered this. my truck has been towed to the local ford dealership and i do not have any documentation at this time. the vehicle was parked.
I experienced 100% brake failure on my 2016 ford f150 3.5l v6. i started my vehicle apprx 530am on 4/30/18 to drive to work. upon starting the vehicle a "low brake fluid level" message appeared. i was not immediately sure what to think. i placed the truck in drive and as i rolled down my sloped driveway and pressed on the brake pedal - the brakes went to the floor without any stopping capability. i coasted to a stop without incident. i checked the brake fluid level and it was very low, well below the minimum mark on the reservoir. i had the truck towed to the ford dealer. upon research it sounds like this same model truck has been reported to have brake fluid draining to the master cylinder. i do not know for certain what my issue is. i should find out tomorrow when the ford mechanics can look over the truck.
When driving the vehicle on freeways with adaptive cruise control enabled, if the vehicle approaches a vehicle in an adjacent lane (typically a larger vehicle like a truck with a trailer, semi, or tanker) the collision aid activates and heavily applies the brakes. if someone is following close behind me, as has happened in at least 4 instances, the individual will need to stop and make an emergency maneuver to avoid colliding. in both cases, the braking only lasted momentarily but was enough to reduce the vehicles speed 20-30 mph during that time. the vehicle has been inspected by ford but they have said that there is nothing that they can do. for the time being, we keep this feature disabled until ford can get this issue resolved. there have been recalls for previous years but ours is not included. because of this ford has said there's nothing they can do on multiple attempts to get the problem resolved.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40 mph, another vehicle attempted to merge into the contact?s lane. the contact depressed the brake pedal and the pedal traveled all the way to the floorboard. the second time the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle slowed down. the contact stated that the failure had been occurring for approximately three months. the contact drove the vehicle to the dealer (mcree ford inc, 2800 gulf freeway dickinson, texas 77539) for diagnostic testing. the dealer trimmed the rotors and informed the contact that the failure was normal and that the brakes would adjust with time; however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 25,800.
While driving at highway speed 70 mph electric emergency brake engaged without warning causing sudden and sustained loss of speed. shortly after truck was pulled to the side of the road rear brake area was noted to have burnt odor emitting from the area. further attempts to evacuate the vehicle from the roadway were unsuccessful as the vehicle rear wheels intermittently locked up while the truck was in forward motion.
Brakes have completely ceased working at random times. three times total: the vehicle will be in motion (at varying speeds) and when brake is applied, the pedal goes all the way to the floor with little resistance. one time i was traveling at 55 mph on the highway and had to stop suddenly for slow traffic - i was forced to use the emergency brake. another time i was traveling at approximately 20 mph approaching a red light and i had to use the emergency brake to stop. the third time i was decelerating and trying to brake to take a hard right turn and the brakes didnt work; fortunately the i was already at a reduced rate of speed and the hard turn in slowed the vehicle enough that i was able to make the turn. but the truck traveled through my lane into the oncoming lane of traffic. thankfully no cars were waiting at that intersection.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving 70 mph, the brakes failed, but were able to function slightly. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and drove with partial braking ability. the contact drove to the dealer (sanderson ford, 6400 n 51st ave, glendale, az 85301) where it was not diagnosed; however, the dealer roughly informed the contact that the master cylinder of the brakes needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. a case number was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact released the brake pedal; however, the brake pedal traveled to the floor again. the contact pulled off the road in order to decelerate and then applied the emergency brake. the vehicle was towed to fairway ford of evans (4333 washington road, evans, ga 30809; 706-854-9200) where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to completely stop the vehicle, regardless of speed. the contact informed the same dealer of the failure and was advised to contact the manufacturer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: cas/13380795; however, the matter was still being resolved. the approximate failure mileage was 9,800.
While driving on rural maryland road, complete loss of brakes without warning other than "low brake fluid" warning less than two minutes beforehand. no accident, fortunately. i understand that this is a known issue and that ford has not issued a recall for this extremely dangerous defect. dealer has said that it will rebuild master brake cylinder and brake booster, using manufacturer original equipment but cannot state reason or cause for failure, nor provide any assurance that failure will not recur. please compel a recall, if that is within nhtsa power.
Driving at 65mph, all of a sudden said brake fluid out, emergency brake was not on, said it was, pulled to side of highway, tested emergency brake, not engaged, had to push brake pedal all the way to floorboard, coasted to dealer nearby. dealer has said, complete failure of master cylinder and brake line leak
Just over 21000 miles on my 2016 f150. while pulling into a parking spot right after getting my truck washed, the engine revved and i had no brakes. pushed brakes all the way to the floor again and again to no avail. truck jumped the curb and smashed into the wall. crash warning lights/ alarm did not go on and the airbag did not deploy, though the airbag light came on. truck filled with smoke...but cleared out relatively quickly. brakes seemed fine after that....in the shop now...see what ford has to say.
As a ford owner why was i not notified of possible brake issues with my f150? i was driving home from the airport on sunday morning on the freeway when a light came on about brake fluid. i tested my brakes. they worked. i continued cautiously to my exit. for whatever reason (grace of god) i took my foot off the gas when i got off on the off the exit. as i neared the stop light and applied the brake, i found i didnt have any!!!! the e brake barely stopped me. had i not decelerated when i did i would not have been able to stop! i could've been killed!!! when i called ford they never mentioned any issues!!! i pull a travel trailer and had a trip planned this upcoming week. had this happened then the outcome could've been horrific! how can i trust that once the vehicle is fixed it is safe? im afraid to take my grand kids in my car! how can i trust ford when they weren't up front about the situation to begin with. do we wait for fatalities before we do something? what's my recourse? i have always been a strong ford supporter (my mom retired from ford) but am extremely disappointed by ford and by any and all agencies that govern notifications of such issues. i should not have to be web surfing to find out that there are issues. i have a brand new rig for a reason and am paying for it with the expectation that i can feel safe in my rig!
On 8-19-17 truck was moving at about 30 mph on a street, went to stop at a stop sign, brake pedal went all the way to the floor, truck would not stop. released brakes, and tried again, this time pumping the brake pedal. truck stopped this time. continued on, brakes felt spongy but would stop and started feeling normal again. on 8-26-17 same scenario occurred. dropped truck off at ford dealership on 8-28-17. as of 8-31-17 dealership has not duplicated problem, found any fluid leaks and has not solved problem. just a side note. my brother in-law has the same exact truck and experienced the same situation about a year ago. at that time the dealership replaced the master cylinder and has seemed to solve his problem. i have also googled this problem and it seems to be a problem with other owners. some have had the master cylinder replaced. i suggested this to the service writer at the dealership, service writer has declined to replace master cylinder since they can not duplicate problem or find any leaks.
Brakes did not function properly, checked reservoir empty but no fluid on ground
The truck just turned 10,000 and now the brake pedal has gone very soft and it requires pushing the pedal to the floor to get the brakes to activate. gentle driving, regular service, not a fluid issue. this truck has the 2.7 ecoboost engine.
After owning this vehicle for 1 month, the breaks failed on me while i attempted to stop at a stop sign before pulling out onto a highway. the break pedal went straight to the floor and i rolled out into traffic instead of stopping. this is my main family vehicle, it is what i drive my 2, 3-year old children in 99% of the time. i looked for a recall status and found multiple complaints of this issue online, but no recall being issued. i am terrified to use the vehicle now and i am now stuck with it for a minimum of the next 6yrs till it's paid off. if this had happened while i was on a family vacation towing a 6000 pound trailer (what this vehicle is intend for in my family) my family could have been seriously injured or died! now i'm stuck with a $35k vehicle, not feeling safe taking our family vacations and my $17k camper just sits here unused because i don't have a safe vehicale to use for towing.
2016 f-150 platinum with 20k miles just had "low brake fluid" notice come on as i started pulling out of parking lot that was downhill and realized i had no brakes when the pedal went to the floor. i quickly used emergency brake to stop the truck and pull back into parking space. pulled up the hood to find the reservoir was low. pulled up good ol google and what do you know... its a common problem with the master cylinder. glad i wasn't driving with my kids towing the boat going downhill. off for repair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while operating the vehicle, an audible alarm was suddenly activated and a message reading "low brake fluid" displayed. moments later, while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle would not immediately stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (chestatee ford located in dahlonega, georgia). the mechanic diagnosed that the master cylinder and cv boot were both faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning, completely lost power, and had very limited braking functionality. the contact was able to stop and restart the vehicle. ford of monroeville, alabama was made aware of the failure and replaced the abs and brake sensors, and reprogrammed the vehicle; however, the failure recurred at least seven times. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and provided case number: cas-12779235. the failure mileage was 8,558.
Backed out driveway and had no brakes (pushed on peddle all the way and went to floor. vehicle didn't slow) had brakes day before and no warning, nor fluid anywhere. reservoir was visibly well below minimum. looking back, i did smell hydraulic oil night before when i pulled in garage. dealer said fluid leaked into powerbooster
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving down a hill, the brake pedal went to the floorboard, failed to stop the vehicle and the contact crashed into a guard rail. the vehicle was towed to the contacts residence and a dealer was notified (diffee ford lincoln, 1681 east interstate 40, el reno, ok 73036, and phone number: (405) 262-4546). a police report was filed. the driver sustained minor bruising and no medical treatment. the manufacturer was contacted to determine why the brakes failed to function. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: rq16001 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the contact was waiting on a response from the manufacturer. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was not available.
While driving my truck i had total loss of brake function without warning. further investigation showed the fluid reservoir was empty despite no evidence of leaks. i feel this is inline with the brake booster/master cylinder recalls of 2013-2014 year models. i suspect the brake fluid has been drawn into the vacuum booster. i'm awaiting dealership service at this time. i was on a mountain road and luckily we were on a level spot instead of on a hill.
I experienced a sudden and complete loss of my brakes while backing out of my garage. when it happened it was instantaneous and i had no braking power at all. the brake light came on immediately and low brake fluid light was also on. the ford dealer confirmed upon repair that the master cylinder dumped most or all of my brake fluid into the brake booster. they repaired the issue, but used the same factory parts my truck was made with. what's to say this won't happen again???
While on the road, began to notice brake pedal travel was softer and closer to the floor before any braking action occurred. stopped at the last red light before arriving home. while sitting at the light, i steadily pressed harder on the pedal, and it reached the floor. pulled into driveway and duplicated the same test. when purchased new, the brake pedal was very sensitive to the touch, and braking was quick to react. we had to adapt to that so as not to throw ourselves forward in our seats when applying the brakes. but that's not the issue now. the issue now is one of feeling the brakes can not be trusted, so much so that something needs to be fixed. truck is in for service as i type. dealer says they haven't been able to duplicate what i've reported. that seems to be the norm in many consumer complaints i've researched from owners of this very same vehicle, with much of the same braking issues. some of those complaints mentioned minor accidents, and other evasive actions needed to avoid damage or personal injury. meanwhile, i'm waiting for dealer's next response.
August 2016 16400 miles brake pedal dropped to floor with very limited braking, had to use emergency brake to stop vehicle. brought to ford dealership, master cylinder was replaced, all was good until may 2017 when pedal again dropped unexpectedly. brought to ford dealer, they had the truck for 5 weeks and i was told there was a computer error but they could not replicate the problem and i was given the truck back. june 7th 2017 pedal is slowly dropping to the floor, brought it back to ford, i was told that it is normal for the pedal to go all the way to the floor. he vehicle is unsafe to drive.
