Problems with 2016 Ford F-150 SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2016 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 27 117 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2016 Ford F-150

Sudden brake loss with no warning lights happens occasionally when coming to a stop. vehicle doesn't stop all the way

I was driving down a busy 3 lane street, when i tried to apply my brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor and did very little to slow the truck, then the brake fluid low alarm went off. i pulled off the road into a parking lot to avoid other cars and applied my emergency brake to stop. i checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was empty, so i inspected all around under the truck and found no leaks or signs of leaking. 3 days before this i called the dealership and complained the brakes were starting to make some noise and didnt feel quit right, they said its probably dust and brakes are not covered under the warranty so you will need to pay to have them checked out. this truck is not even a year old! i drive this truck for work and to haul my family in it, now i don't feel safe, i should have never sold my old f150.

The brakes on my 2016 f150 are super sensitive and tend to lock up at low speed. no matter how easy you apply them they tend to cause you to jerk forward upon applying them.

In november 2016 just 8 months after our truck was purchased my husband was trying to stop at a red lightin our neighborhood and the brakes went all the way to the floor and di'd not stop, the brakes did not work. luckily there was not an accident or injury this time. we took the vehicle to ford in grapevine and they told us the master cylinder in the. takes needed to be replaced so they replaced it. 3 months later in march 2017 my husband was in traffic turning at a light to merge onto the highway, traffic came to a stop and he tried to stop and again the brakes went all the way to the ground and they didn't work nor did they stop the vehicle. this time he rear ended a lady in an suv. he said he had plenty of time to stop and was luckily going at a reduced speed but still was unable to stop or slow before colliding with another vehicle due to brake malfunction. the truck is now at grapevine ford again and we have yet been told what the issue was. both times these incidents occurred there was no warning, no lights, nothing that we noticed that could indicate an issue. we have had tons of other issues with this truck, drivers side seatbelt broke, air conditioning unit broke, skylink system shorted and brake failure. we have been refused a replacement vehicle by ford and are currently dealing with lawyers but that could take 3 more months. i am furious that no consideration has been given to me and my family over these issues. have they fixed our vehicle? sure, but i am terrified to put my babies in this truck ever again no matter fixed or not. the next time we may not be so lucky and i can not take that chance. this is a work and family vehicle and our work/finances have been severely compromised as we pay a lot of money for this truck. i am extremely disappointed with ford and their customer service and their product and hope this may help get our issues resolved.

I arrived at a friends house with no issues. shortly after, i went to start my vehicle and when i pressed the brake to hit the start button, the brake peddle went to the floor board as if there was no pressure. at that point brake / fluid light came on. i opened the hood and check the brake master cylinder and it was empty. next day i went to the dealer and they replaced the master cylinder and brake booster.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and the power booster needed to be replaced. the contact stated that only the master cylinder was replaced. the failure occurred after the repair was performed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,096.

I agreed to purchase this f150 on 1/27/2016 but requested that the mushy brakes be repaired first (pedal goes to floor). went back to dealer 1/27 to complete paperwork and pick up repaired truck. was told that the truck was checked by the service dept. and that brakes were normal. i completed the paperwork but left the truck there to be checked by the service dept. again the next morning. i got a phone call the next morning saying the brakes had been fixed and the truck was ready for pickup. when i arrived at the dealership i went to the truck and pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. i was told that it had been checked by four service techs and all agreed that the brakes were fine. they also gave me a service report saying the brake operation was normal. i took the truck home that afternoon since it didn't appear that this service dept was not qualified . on 1/31 i took the truck to a different dealer. they said the master cylinder was by-passing and ordered a new one. it came in the next day and i took the truck in for repair. after the truck was "repaired" i got in the truck to head back home. the brake pedal went to the floor. i went back in and reported that it was the same as before. after discussions, the service dept got a new truck off of the sales lot and showed me that this break pedal also went to the floor, so this pedal operation was normal. i took my truck and returned home. now i have a very expensive truck that i am afraid to drive. after an internet search for mushy brakes i find that there are many other owners with the same problem. i called myford and told there were no other reports on this. they suggested taking the truck to another dealership. this third dealer said they would have to keep the truck for 5 days before they could even look at it. i did not leave it. myford then suggested a 4th dealer. haven't been there yet.

I was sitting still as i waited in a drive through line with my truck in drive and my foot on the brake, when suddenly the brake pedal pushed all the way to the floor. scary. i tried to pump the brake - the pedal pumped all the way to the floor several times before it caught and began behaving as expected. the was no sound or alarm from the console during all of this. the dealership replaced the master cylinder as a warranty repair. they had no comment about whether this was a recall. i asked if the part number was different on the replaced part and they told me it was. replacement part was gl3z-2140-a cylinder asy along with pm-20 fluid - brake. *tr

I have a 2016 f150 3.5 ecoboost with 14000 miles, last night as i was going home, i was going down a little hill like i did many times before as i approached the stop sign at the bottom of the hill i started to push on my brakes then as the truck was about to come to a stop out of nowhere it seemed like my truck lost pressure or something cause then my brake pedal sunk in all the way in !!! with the truck gaining momentum again with quick thinking i stepped on the parking brake right next to the brake pedal and came to a stop!!! me and my girlfriend were scared we were a mile away from my house i carefully drove the truck home and at three stop lights, i stopped and i pressed the break and i was waiting for the light to turn green i pushed the brake in a little bit more then the break would sink in all the way in. i goggled the situation to find out that they are investigating this matter, this is the second time ford has let me down i had a 2006 lincoln mark lt same situation happened to me it had a recall on the brake booster, i have already call ford customer service to make a complaint, ford this is my family truck i drive my daughter in this truck that's the only time i drive it , with paying 50000 on a truck i deserve a good quality truck cause just like yall be raising the prices like nothing we the people deserve a good quality truck!!!

While driving, i experienced a sudden loss of braking ability in a ford f-150 2016 3.5l v6 ecoboost with 10,600 miles on the engine. pedal, when pressed all the way to the floor, provided some ability to slow down in great length, but no ability to complete stop in a timely manner. *tr

The brake pedal is going all the way to the floor with little resistance and no warnings on the dash. it started on 12-14-2016 and has happened many times between the 14th and the 17th. since then they appear to be working as designed. when they were acting up with the truck in park or moving i could push the peddle all the way to the floor board with little resistance. *tr

I recently purchased a new 2016 ford f150 xlt 2.7l ecoboost truck. on december 6, 2016 i was involved in an accident with this vehicle. i feel that this truck did not adequately stop in an emergency situation with ample stopping distance. i have driven trucks of this same size towing a boat and under an emergency situations going downhill and have been able to stop with less distance than i had with this truck towing absolutely nothing. i was not speeding and only traveling between 30 to 35 miles an hour on a four lane highway which is currently under construction, the speed limit for this area is 45 right now because of this construction. i was traveling in the left hand lane planning to make a left hand turn onto a road that was a few miles away at a main intersection. several vehicles ahead of me some individual decided they were going to just make a left hand turn to get to a street clear on the other side of the highway causing everyone behind them to slam on their brakes, having two to three car lengths in front of me i had slammed on the brakes and the truck was slowing down but not fast enough so then i put my other foot on the brakes and stood on the brakes holding the steering wheel and still the truck was not stopping absolutely no change in the response of it breaking, keep in mind i way around 235 lbs. i just don't understand why my brand new truck without even having its first oil change has failed to stop and every other vehicle on the road with less distance than me was able to stop . i was also pondering if the ecoboost system may have contributed to it somehow with the start and stopping of the motor causing some sort of pressure loss in the system. i no longer trust this vehicle, i have driven ford trucks for over 20 years. *tr

I bought the truck in july with 63 miles on it. a month or so later i noticed the brake pedal going to the floor when stopped at a traffic light. i took to the dealer and they looked at it and told me it was normal for the pedal to go to the floor under pressure because the system calculated how much pressure was needed to stop the vehicle. today 12-6-2016 i was driving the truck and the pedal went to the floor when stopping, while the truck was still moving. i dropped it off at the dealer this morning and will have to wait and see what they say. i think it is a bad master cylinder and think the story about the computer controlling the brakes is just to get me out of the shop. *tr

Three issues: 1. sudden loss of brakes while moving, brake pedal went to the floor and had no brakes. 2. front axle (4x4) tries to engage on its own from time to time while driving. 3. excessive backlash in rear end while driving. *tr

When approaching a stop light, my brake pedal just went to the floor. i made it to a parking lot with spongy brakes. once in a parking space, when pressure was applied to the pedal, the pedal slowly went completely to the floor.

The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. i was in a parking lot and had to pump the brakes several times to have pressure. there were no warning lights or signals. drove home carefully and cut off the vehicle. restarted the truck again and had the same problem. i was gettting ready to go out of town towing a 7000 pound camper. if the brakes had failed while towing the camper it could have been deadly. the truck was towed to the dealership and the master cylinder was replaced. read on line there had been a recall on the 2013 & 2014 f-150s master cylinder but not on the 2015 & 2016. there needs to be a recall !!!! i owned the truck for approximately 9 months and it had 9700 miles on it when this occurred.

To whom this may concern, on november 18th while driving with my three children, the brakes on my 2016 ford f150 failed. when approaching a stop light, i pushed the brake pedal all the way to the floor without slowing. i veered the truck into the left turn lane in order to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of me. the truck slowly came to a stop by the time i reached the light. luckily there were not any vehicles in the left turn lane. on 11/19/16, i took the truck into my local ford dealer and they replaced the master cylinder. after doing some research, i was disappointed to find that multiple owners have already had this same issue. i would expect such a potentially dangerous problem with the truck would illicit a recall. this is the fourth ford f150 vehicle i have owned. this truck was an expensive vehicle and i am disappointed to have had such a serious malfunction after driving it for only 7,300 miles. i am even more disappointed in the company for being aware of an issue and not having taken action. i hope the new part that has been installed has been redesigned and will not fail like the first one did. even more so, however, i hope that the ford company will take note of this issue, issue a recall, and prevent others from the dangers of nonfunctioning brakes. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My three-month-old 2016 ford f150, has 10,000 miles on it. i bought it brand new, with 9 miles on the odometer. up until friday, 11-18-16, it had been a pretty good vehicle. on the aforementioned date, when approaching a stoplight, i applied the brakes. much to my dismay, the pedal went to the floor & the truck did not slow down. complete brake failure. i took the vehicle to the dealership for diagnosis & repair. they still have it & i'm in a loaner car. i also now see that there are other reports of the same thing happening to other 2015/2016 ford f150 trucks. i would think this type of a failure would be deemed catastophic, as one could imagine what could happen when driving a vehicle at any speed, and no way to stop it.

Attempting to stop and when pushing on brake pedal vechile slowed and as more pressure was applied the pedal went to the floor with no futher braking action. pumped pedal and down shifted transmission to stop truck. started braking at 65mph. limped truck home with soft brake pedal and returned truck to dealer who replaced master cylinder.

2016 ford f150 with ~12000 mile experienced complete brake failure with no warning indicators. at the time of the incident the vehicle was being driven in a high traffic city street, coming up to a stop light with traffic in front of the vehicle. the emergency brake was used to slow vehicle. the brake pedal went completely to the floor. truck was towed to local ford dealership and the master cylinder and booster were replaced under warranty. the parts were replaced with identical new components, but no good explanation of why the components failed so early in the vehicle's life.

I was driving north on harlem approaching the cross street forest view which has an active green light so as i'm traveling at 30 mph which is the speed limit the vehicle in front of me slams on the brakes i am approximately 100 feet away when i slam on my brakes my truck is in 4x4 due to the light rain and when i slam on the brakes the vehicle does not stop at consequently i slam into the gmc in front of me and file an insurance claim. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving 20 mph, the brakes failed. the contact had to engage the parking brake in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was diagnosed as having a master cylinder failure. the vehicle was taken to be repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 1,900.

3 episodes on the same trip--- brakes were very soft and required extra long stopping distance, brake pedal went to the floor. then driving on rural and suburban roads- tried to brake at a stop light, brake pedal went to the floor- truck did not stop and i went right through the intersection, almost hitting vehicles. then on rural road tried to stop as i was coming upon a farm vehicle. brakes did not work and i had to swerve around the vehicle to avoid hitting it. when brakes were pumped the stopping power returned slightly. was able to get my truck to my work location and then called ford dealership who told me to have the vehicle towed. *tr

10/14/2016- on 2 occasions applied brakes to slow down and stop. the brake pedal went straight to the floor.1st time was to slow down to turn corner, brake pedal went straight to floor. had to make wide turn to slow down. was lucky no vehicles in either lane. 2nd time was coming to red light intersection, applied brakes and again straight to the floor. had to pump brake to take hold. vehicle had to be flatbed towed 1.5 hours to home. after installed gps system was verified working correctly. this is company vehicle, so again had to be towed to ford garage. they just performed a multi point inspection, checked all hoses, no leaks. advised ford garage of your report on loss of braking ability, their response "yes we know but what are we suppose to do, just start removing parts"? dangerous to not know when this could happen again. have ford garage receipt if needed. *tr

2016 f-150 xlt 2.7l ecoboost model. 6060 miles only! parked as usual on driveway facing downgrade. i always activate the parking brake due to the incline of the driveway. started up truck to warm while i loaded infant and gear into cab. was ready to drive away when i noticed that the parking brake indicator was not lit on the dash. found it odd but didn't think twice of it. pushed brakes, disengaged parking brake like usual anyways, and put in drive. released brakes but truck did not roll forward, even being on downgrade. double checked i was in drive and revved slightly but no forward movement. put in neutral and no movement. pushed brake pedal, put in park, attempted to engage and disengage parking brake, then repeated drive scenario. nothing worked. parked and turned truck off. upon restart, warning on dash popped up showing, "park brake malfunction service now." had to attempt 3rd try to disengage parking brake. finally it disengaged and i dropped off wife and child and went straight to dealership. warning on dash was still there when i dropped it off. dealer verified concerns and bce tested found codes c1034:78 c2007:1d and c2008:1d. pinpoint tests performed. inspected rear brakes, wiring, connectors - all looked ok. reset system. tsb on 2015 models for faulty parking brakes but does not apply to 2016 models yet. nothing dealer could do since it was not listed under this tsb other than reset computer and hope it doesn't happen again. seems like same part(s) is being used on 2016 model but tsb doesn't apply to 2016 model. please look into expanding tsb to cover 2016 models. faulty electronic parking brake is unacceptable. not being able to disengage it while parked is one thing, but having it possibly engage while driving can be catastrophic.

Loss of braking power while attempting to stop. pedal goes all the way to floor.

Brake pedal falls on heave braking. also falls when holding foot on the brake pedal for short stops.

The truck has had issues with the hillassist failure, then check engine light then wrench light causing the truck to go from 45 mph to 2mph without notice. the throttle bottle also went out on this truck causing the truck to go from 45 mph to 2 mph in traffic, this is the ford wrench light. on two seperate occasions, when starting the truck and releasing the parking brake, a parking brake malfunction light flashes, then when trying to move the truck into gear it will move from park to drive to reverse, but will not move. please contact me asap. i have a detailed list of dates and occurances along with all email conversations with ford. ford soes not believe this is a problem and seems to ignore the safety concerns.

2016 ford f150 xlt w/3.5 eb approx. 6,700 miles. this all started about a week ago. when pressing on the brake pedal, it gets hard initially, then slowing goes to the floor. on two separate occasions when pressing the brake pedal it went straight to the floor and then had to be pumped to stop the truck. i have checked the brake fluid level on several occasions and it has never been low. i can replicate the pedal going to floor in all situations, in park, while driving, every time the pedal is pressed it acts the same. firm pedal at first, then slowly to the floor. on occasion, once the pedal gets to the floor it has to be pumped to keep enough pressure on the rotors to prevent the truck from rolling forward. *tr

Brake pedal went to the floor with very little stopping power. i was able to stop without an accident occurring. there were no indicator lights saying there is a problem with the brakes. dealer said the master cylinder needs to be replaced. it is being replaced under warranty.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving at any speed, the vehicle made noises from the engine and transmission areas. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed too much fuel and the air conditioning blew hot air. also, the oil low pressure warning indicator illuminated and flashed off and on. the contact also stated that the brakes squeaked and the front passenger side tire deflated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (koons ford in sterling, va) for diagnostic testing. the dealer found nothing wrong with the vehicle; however, the failures recurred several times. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the same dealer several times and, during one of the visits, the engine was replaced without the contact's consent. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. the vehicle was not completely repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40.

The morning of 5 october 2016 i noticed my brake pedal was seemingly sinking to the floor while braking. it seemed like i was loosing some brake power while descending my neighborhood street at 15 mph. in the evening i was returning home from work, traveling 55 mph, i began to slow down for an upcoming red light and while attempting to stop at the intersection the brake pedal depressed to the floor and the truck failed to stop at the light. i rolled all the way into the intersection, but fortunately did not get hit by oncoming traffic. i took the vehicle in for service at a ford dealership service department this morning. this vehicle was bought brand new in may 2016 and only has 6,000 miles on it. when i pick up the vehicle i will have supporting documentation for the required services.

Brake fade at speeds 60mph or more with continuous use. 2.7 l extended cab sport.

Backing up into a parking spot. hit the brakes and the brakes failed. did not stop the truck. backed into a pole which stopped the truck. was in a parking lot. backing into a marked spot on the lot. fortunately there was a pole rather than a car or person there. the pole stopped the vehicle. told my wife about it. she didn't believe me of course - i googled brake failure and then 4 days later i saw the report on the news.

When trying to stop at a stop sign my brake pedal went all the way to the floor not allowing me to stop in time and causing me to cross a major roadway; luckily there was not much traffic at that moment. i immediately pulled over and shut off my truck. pumped my brakes and started it back up again. everything seemed fine so i continued to drive it with no issues. about 10 minutes later as i was approaching a crosswalk by a school, a child stepped out into the crosswalk and once again i applied my brakes only to have the pedal go all the way to the floor. the vehicle does slow down but does not stop where it should. luckily the child was not struck by my vehicle. i then took the truck to my local ford dealer which is was diagnosed with a bad master cylinder for the brake system. no parts available as of yet and supposedly they are on back order. this issue needs a full recall before someone gets killed.

My 2 month old ford f-150 lost all brakes while coming back from a trip this past sunday. the truck is at moyer ford in foley al. there telling me that they can not repair it until mid february. i have filed a complaint with ford case # cas10736186. i use my truck for work and can not be without a truck until late february. i am getting no responds on fixing the problem from ford , moyer ford were the truck is or world ford of pensacola were i purchased the vehicle. very disturbing that ford knew the master brake cylinder was inferior when they built the vehicle. people are going to lose there life and kill others with this problem. this is criminal and ford should be held accountable.

Rear end collision on i-25 in denver, co 80112 9/28/2016 4 pm, sunny and clear weather, traffic moderately heavy "slow and go" in motion appx 25mph, no injuries

Driving in parking lot and it took longer than expected to stop. then driving on road at 35-40 and went to stop as light turned yellow. brake pedal went all the way to the floor. went immediately to local ford dealer (1/4 mile from the incident). dealer says master brake cylinder failed and it will take 4-5 days for replacement part to come in.

You had to press your foot all the way to the floor board to stop the truck. lucky it start happening when my wife and daughter were traveling at low speed, because if they were traveling at a high rate of speed or needed to stop it would have been an accident. ford repair and said the master cylinder needed replaced. the truck is brand new with less than 6k miles on it.

My new f-150 which was purchased with 10 miles on it has been having severe brake issues. when ever the vehicle sits overnight or sits for a few days the brakes seem to immediately fail when they are applied in both forward and reverse. the brake pedal shimmies like crazy and kind of surges when applied. it almost feel like a tire is going to fall off. *tr

We have had the same issue on more than one occasion with the f150 brakes. specifically, when the brakes are applied, the pedal goes all the way to the floor of the vehicle with no discernible reduction in the speed of the vehicle. in other words, the brakes do not stop the truck. it has happened on several occasions to 3 different drivers of the vehicle. it happens while driving - but not all of the time. on average it happens about 10 times per day when braking. it has happened every day since the truck was purchased, it happens anywhere form 20 mph city driving to 70 mph highway driving.

Total brake failure at 3,100 miles. vehicle would not stop. had to pump brakes as fast as possible to try to get truck to stop. brake pedal wen to the floor with no response. when stopped, had to put truck in neutral to keep it from moving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. when the brake pedal was depressed at 35 mph, the pedal traveled to the floor without warning. the vehicle eventually stopped independently. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that the vehicle was operating as designed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,500.

Brake pedal goes completely to the floor. truck stops slowly. increased pressure on the pedal needed to slow the truck. i passed through an intersection unable to stop in time.was going about 60mph and on a straight ahead path. this problem has happened about 10 times randomly.

While applying brakes the pedal travels excessively until it contacts the floor board. as a result, brake application is lost. contacted ford roadside assistance and had vehicle towed to the dealer and was told the master cylinder is defective. this vehicle is a 2016 ford f150 with a 5.0liter engine and equipped with four wheel drive. vehicle has only 15,472 miles. this is one of nine vehicles of exact make and model we employ in our fleet and one of two with this problem.
