My 20 year old daughter was driving through a parking lot and without any prior problems or indication of a brake issue the brake pedal went to the the floor board and the truck barely came to a stop before hitting other vehicles in the parking lot, at this time a warning chime and warning message displaying low brake fluid appeared on the instrument cluster. she happened to be in the ford dealership parking lot picking the truck up from multiple recalls being preform (non brake related). she pulled back in the service lane and asked for assistance, the service writer went and got the technician to inspected it in the service lane, he checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was completely empty causing the truck to loose all brakes. they ended up keeping the vehicle over night and inspected it the next day.. the technician added more brake fluid to the brake reservoir and tested the trucks brakes and the brake master cylinder immediately lost the brake fluid into the brake booster. the technician diagnosed the failure as the brake master cylinder leaking fluid into the brake booster. now both the brake master cylinder and brake booster need to be replaced at a cost of $1,031. from what i have researched this is a widely know problem with 2013 to 2018 ford f150s equipped with the 3.5 liter engine like we have. my daughter was extremely fortunate she was driving at slow speeds through a parking lot, if this would of happened traveling a higher rate of speed it could of ended up causing serious injury or death! this matter needs to be addressed in a swift way to prevent anymore drivers being at risk, not only to the occupants of the defective vehicle but those that could be hit by the out of control ford f-150!
While driving on the freeway, i applied my brakes and noticed no reaction and my pedal went all the way to the floor to slow the truck. i was really luck there were no cars to my right because i would have rear ended the car in front of me. after all this i got a message for 'low brake fluid'. i passed 6 cars till i came to a stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. the emergency brake was used to slow the vehicle down and the low brake fluid indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to summerville ford (843-873-3550, located at 9700 dorchester rd, summerville, sc 29485) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. the technician stated that there was no recall. the manufacturer was called, but the contact did not speak with anyone. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 31,000. the vin was not provided.
I experienced an electrical failure that was intermittent at first but became worst over time. with this failure i would lose steering and vehicle advance track as well as abs brake function. when electrical power was lost the electrical power steering would stop functioning causing complete lose of steering. this caused me to cross into oncoming traffic, luckily there was no one in the oncoming lane. the dealer found a wire going to the alternator that had worn through causing an over voltage condition. this caused many of the systems, including steering, to shut down. in my research this is not the only occurrence of this issue. my vehicle has 42,000 miles on it. i would guess this will become a much more common issue with time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving approximately 55 mph, the brake warning message suddenly displayed and the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact indicated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the emergency brake had to be applied to stop the vehicle. it was discovered that brake fluid was present and had been sucked into the brake booster. the cause of the failure was not determined. joe cooper ford (4921 n. automall dr, shawnee, ok) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 90,000. *bf*jb
I was driving down the highway when my brake system alert started going off and brake alerts on dash, a minute later i went to brake and had no brakes, i was able to get off the highway and to a parking lot. i opened up the hood and there was no brake fluid, i bought more fluid and attempted to drive 3 more blocks and all the alerts went off again and no brakes, i pulled over, checked the fluid and it was gone. there was no signs of leaks and all the fluid went into the booster and engine, causing a thick cloud of smoke. i went to .carproblemzoo.com/ford/f-150/2016/brake and found 65 people with the same issue. are we waiting for someone to get killed. i have not received a recall is there one? i am the only owner and the truck has less than 20,000 miles on it. no accidents
Driving at 35 mph my truck gives me a brake fluid low error message. i keep driving on to the highway. as i exit the highway i press the brakes and nothing happens. the brakes aren't engaging. i coast to a stop since there's no traffic and pull over. towed truck to ford dealership and they tell me master cylinder and brake booster have malfunctioned. cost of repairs are $2100.
Brakes suddenly and without warning became nearly unusable, brake pedal soft and to the floor and extremely long stopping distance. this was followed by a brake warning light and a "brake fluid low" warning on the instrument panel display. dealer reports a master brake cylinder failure and leak of brake fluid requiring master cylinder and booster replacement
While driving an alarm starting beeping and "low brake fluid" flashed on the dashboard. when i went to stop in a parking lot, the brakes went all the way to the floor and the truck rolled to a stop. we immediately put brake fluid into the reservoir and it disappeared. no puddles under truck or liquid on the tires.
On 7 september 2019 we returned from a family trip of 9 days. during this time the f-150 was sitting in the garage the whole time. when we returned i went to back the truck out of the garage and when i depressed the brake pedal i had no brakes. shortly noticing that there were no brakes the low brake fluid indicator came on. i checked the reservoir and indeed the level was really low, when it was full before we left on the trip. there were no pools or puddles of fluid anywhere. on 10 sept, i refilled the reservoir with brake fluid. while remaining in the driveway, i pumped the brakes. the break pedal consistently went to the floor with no breaking power. after several pumps of the breaks the low fluid level indicator came back on. i checked to see the level and indeed again it was below the minimum marker. and again there is no indication of leaking anywhere. there are no pools of fluid anywhere in the engine compartment nor under the vehicle. i plan to take the truck to the dealer for repairs. the vehicle has not been in an accident due to this problem. some motion was used to verify if the breaks were working. all of this occurred in the garage or on the driveway of the house.
Bought the truck a year and a half ago the engine has blown and now the brake master cylinder is went out probably be the brake booster next they should be reliable for this i'm 100 miles over my warranty and they were still on fix it
Low brake fluid light came on. was able to get to parking lot. when i went to drive the truck a few hours later it had absolutely no brakes!!! had i driven any further i would have surely crashed and died since i was on a highway. no fluid was leaking. had to tow to dealership. need to recall the 2016's too.
Driving in residential type area, down hill. break warning came on (40mph). tried to stop but pedal went to floor. i said to my family to hold on we have no breaks and we're approaching a stoped car making a left. as they were screaming in fear i stepped on the emergency break and down shifted to first. we are lucky i knew what to do. another family may not be so lucky. the ford dealer said the master cylinder is leaking through. 2016 ford f-150 3.5 ecoboost
Total brake failure
I was driving down the highway when my brake system alert started going off and brake alerts on dash, a minute later i went to brake and had no brakes, i was able to get off the highway and to a parking lot. i opened up the hood and there was no brake fluid, i bought more fluid and attempted to drive 3 more blocks and all the alerts went off again and no brakes, i got pulled over, checked the fluid and it was gone. there was no signs of leaks and all the fluid went into the booster and engine, causing a thick cloud of smoke i called a tow truck and it was taken to a ford dealer. they said it was not covered because i was just over the warranty period. it is costing me over $800. i am very lucky it wasn't a bad accident. this needs to be addressed. all the fluid went into the booster and into the engine. the ford dealer will have all the information and are repairing it now. i could add it later if needed.
On starting stationary vehicle received audible warning of low brake fluid. brake pedal went all the way to the floor. vehicle had been driven normally 2 days prior with no indication. opened hood and observed brake fluid in reservoir below min. added brake fluid to between min and max. restarted vehicle and pressed brake pedal again to floor. observed fluid level lower within reservoir, but no fluid observed coming from vehicle. continued to add fluid, pump pedal and observe fluid draining, but no fluid leak found. total fluid added - 36 oz. vehicle towed to dealer. service department concurred with self-assessment that master cylinder had failed and draining fluid was collecting in brake booster housing. service department quoting $1000 to repair. vehicle 37 months old, 47000 miles - just out of warranty. had vehicle had been in motion i feel confident collision would have occurred / injuries likely. my gravest concern is that failure of major safety system did not have any precursor nor external symptoms. hard for low age/low mileage vehicle to hold value with this issue.
While heading to the dentist yesterday i was driving and the low brake fluid light came on, thought maybe a sensor fault and kept driving, next the brake light indicator in the instrument cluster came on. so i pulled over and the pedal went to the floor. i barely stopped in time because there was a stop sign. i popped the hood and there was no fluid in the master cylinder. i locked the truck up and walked 3 blocks to a ace hardware to get some more fluid. i got back to the truck and checked for leaks but didn't find any. so i filled up the fluid and pumped the brakes, i had enough to get me home safely. when i got home i checked again and found the fluid to be all gone again. that was withing a 5 mile distance to where i filled it up last. i checked for leaks once again and didn't find any. so i pulled the vacuum sensor off the bottom of the brake booster and all of the brake fluid poured out. the master cylinder failed and kept pushing the brake fluid into the booster.
Upon pulling out of parking space, low brake fluid light came on and brake pedal lost all pressure. went back into store to purchase more brake fluid. refilled and low fluid light came back on before leaving parking lot. drove to another lot and refilled reservoir as it was empty again. no signs of external leaks. upon viewing other identical complaints, i believe it is leaking into brake booster, which has not yet been recalled for this model year. f150 only has 61,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving on the interstate, the brake warning indicator illuminated. while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to apply the camper brake to reach the next exit. the contact took the vehicle to murdo ford (219 main st, murdo, sd 57559, (605) 669-2391) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum booster sucked the seal out of the master cylinder and all the fluid went to the booster. the technician added fluid to the brake master cylinder and disconnected the booster. the contact was able to drive the vehicle and later took it to thunder basin ford (1100 w 2nd st, gillette, wy 82716, (307) 682-4735), but was not diagnosed or repaired due to the length of time it would take for the repair. the vehicle was also taken to jackson ford of decatur (455 e pershing rd, decatur, il 62526, (844) 846-7281) where a repair appointment was scheduled. the contact also took the vehicle to rick ridings ford (1817 ridings dr, monticello, il 61856, (217) 762-2521) and was informed that there were no recalls. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 32,000. *bf *as
While driving total loss of brakes, pedal to the floor. no fluid in master cylinder. master cylinder failed and fluid leaked into booster and burned off in engine
While driving on a us highway at 65 mph, i had a need to suddenly apply the brakes on my 2016 ford f-150 and there was a sudden failure. the brake pedal had to be depressed the entire distance to the floor to finally get the vehicle to decelerate. afterwards a warnings light came on indicating low brake fluid. despite adding fluid to the reservoir the brakes would still not engage. the vehicle had to be brought for service where it was determined that there had been a failure in the master brake cylinder. fortunately this did not result in an accident or injury.
I have owned my 2016 ford f-150 super crew lariat for almost 3 years. i purchased it brand new from a dealer in palm beach county florida. i am on top of my routine maintenance and have just had my truck serviced 3 weeks ago. on 7/20/19 my truck's brakes completely failed while driving from my house on a residential road. i had to use my emergency brake to stop my vehicle from going through a stop sign. thankfully, i was not involved in an accident. my master cylinder had lost all its fluid but there were no signs of leaks. i added brake fluid and i could see it leaving the reservoir. it appears to be leaking into the brake booster. i had to have my truck towed to the dealership and i'm waiting to hear back from the service department.
While driving to work a red brake warning light came on the display and i tried the brakes. the brake pedal went to the floor and i had no brakes. i pulled over in a safe spot checked the brake reservoir and it was completely empty. i started the vehicle and smoke started pouring out of the exhaust. had it towed to a ford/lincoln dealer and they said the master cylinder and brake booster needs to be replaced $890.00. there is no ford recall for 2016 f150s which is unbelievable since this is a serious safety issue. did some research and there are multiple lawsuits for the same issue on 2013-2018 ford f150s. i called ford had a hard time understanding the rep and she created a case number. called them the next day after speaking with ford dealer and there was no case to be found. the second ford rep made a case # cas22180343, was very helpful and the rep said ford will make it right. this remains to be seen. meanwhile i'm without a vehicle. i had a 2005 toyota tacoma and never had any type of issues. hopefully this helps and gets ford to recall 2016 f150s so no one gets hurt. also had to replace all brakes, rotors and pads for $924.72 on a 50k mile vehicle is very questionable. thank you
Vehicle operating normally until problem noted 7/13/2016. vehicle purchased used from certified ford dealership on 5/16/2018. currently has approximately 44,800 miles on odometer. vehicle has been parked overnight and upon am startup and backing up suffered complete loss of braking ability when brakes were applied. low brake reservoir indicator light on. visual check revealed reservoir level well below minimum mark and level with inlets for the brake lines. refilled, pumped brakes and able to obtain moderately firm pedal. started vehicle, let idle few moments, tested brake pedal but found soft pedal again sinks immediately to floor and reservoir light on again. visual check shows fluid again has emptied as described above. vehicle had not been moved. a visual trace of all brake lines shows no external leakage along length of the lines nor at any brake component. fluid is obviously being drawn into the vacuum boost reservoir. vehicle has not been altered in any way from date of purchase. this is an extreme safety issue with a high probability of loss or life and/or severe injury to passengers and/or collision with other vehicles or objects due to this sudden, total brake failure. this is a catastrophic failure of the master cylinder system that produces a failure of the redundant braking arrangement (i.e. separate front and rear brake systems). this appears from a quick google search of other complaints to becoming a known problem. prompt action is urged by nhtsa to initiate a recall to correct these problem for obvious safety reasons.
I was driving home from work and vehicle was functioning normally. unexpectedly the "low brake fluid" warning appeared. approximately 1 to 2 minutes later i stepped on the brake and it went to the floor. the first time i pressed it slowed the vehicle slightly. i ipressed on the brake again and it did not register. it was terrifying and i felt fortunate to be able to make it to the side of the road without collision. this happened on a major city street moving about 40 mph.
After 71k miles, the brake master cylinder needs replaced due to brake fluid internal leaking to the brake boosters. lost all control of braking power. $1100 repair to replace master cylinder and brake boosters. this happened on 7/6/2019 while driving home. the low brake fluid light came on while driving and noticed substantial loss in braking power and had to push brake pedal all the way down to slow the truck to a stop at stop sign.
While slowly pulling out of a drive way the driver applied the brakes but the pedal went to the floor. a mechanic's inspection determined the booster failed causing brake fluid to flow into the master cylinder. with no fluid in the lines there is no stopping ability.
3 miles into my trip with several starts and stops. low break fluid warning light. pulled over with working breaks but reservoir was almost empty. loss of breaks after a couple more stops. topped off break fluid reservoir. ran motor 5 min before low fluid warning light, no sign of external leak. leaking appears to be from master cylinder to vacuum buster. pulled vacuum line from vacuum buster eliminated the loss of fluid. and was able to limp home with manual breaks.
Truck had 36335 miles on it and we had complete brake failure. just arrived in panama city fla and coming out of grocery store lost all brakes while in motion on city street
I was driving on the north texas tollway today. get a low brake fluid warning light. when i tried to slow down the brakes went to floor. 0% braking. fortunately, coasted tot a stop on the inside shoulder of a high speed tollway - dangerous. eventually towed to park cities ford (dallas, texas). had i taken the next exit i would have entered a busy multiple lane highway system from an elevated overpass. very likely would have been a major accident with high likelihood of injury. this is a well maintained vehicle. recent service. no wrecks. no brake fluid seen where the truck was parked prior to today's event. absolutely, no warning.
I was parked at a retail store when the check brake fluid light cmae on. i check the fluid and it was almost empty. the brake pedal was going all the way to the floor. i purchase fluid and replaced it and drove home about two miles away. by the time i got home the light came on agin and the pedal was going to the floor with very little brakes. i called my mechanic (who works for ford) and he said to check because he thought there might be a recall on the brakes. there is not one but there are a large number of complaints on the issue. it is so bad the master cylinder is on back order with no timeframe given on when it will come in. i also cannot get an after market part from someone else due to backorders. it is obvious there is a mass problem that ford is ignoring a safety issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while the vehicle was being serviced by antelope valley ford (located at 1155 auto mall dr, lancaster, ca 93534, (888) 415-0959), the contact was informed that the brake booster, brake cylinder, and bushings needed to be replaced. the failure of the brake components rendered the brakes inoperable. in addition, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,178.
I was driving to work and on my way about 7 miles into my drive, i received a notice on the instrument panel indicating my brake fluid was low, i click the ok button and continued driving, ummiediately upon coming to the next light to stop my brake pedal went to the floor as i pressed hard to stop, the truck did not stop and i ran the red light but making a turn and nearly hitting oncoming traffic. the truck camed to a rolling stop and i pressed the emergency brake and stopped on the side of the road. this truck i purchased last year in february of 2018 and has only 32,000 miles but ford said the truck warranty had expired and the cost was $1235.41. i am fighting ford and had opened a case but their investigation determined they are not at fault! i am here to see if nhtsa can have them recall their brakes.
Master cylinder failed @ 67,675 miles. filled brake booster with brake fluid. started vehicle and warning message for low brake fluid appeared on the dash. had exactly 3 more brake applications before brake pedal went to floor - no brakes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. also, 'low fluid' displayed and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was cautiously driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake booster and master cylinder were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 68,767.
Light came on brake fluid low then immediately no brakes going down the road. bad master cyclinder.
While driving on city street, dash indicated "low brake fluid"...ok?. traveled another 1/16th mile brake peddle went to the floor, no brakes and all warning indicators came on stating "brakes"with warning symbol.
Left my home this morning and approached a stop sign and almost lost complete braking on my vehicle. brake pedal was firm but almost no stopping ability. brake fluid reservoir is full and brake pads and rotors are in good condition.
I have little to no brakes first thing in the morning. after a couple of minutes they work fine. i believe it's a vacuum booster pump problem on the ford 3.5 ecoboost motor. 3 dealerships failed to duplicate the problem. however it's a common occurrence to me. pulling out of my driveway into traffic is a real danger to me and my family.
Came to a stop sign and everything worked, at the next stop sign it was as if someone flipped a switch (residential area with many intersections). my brake pedal would sink to the floor and could barely stop the truck. however if slamming the brakes the abs would function and stop the truck as expected. inspected brake system and fluid level was above minimum in the reservoir and found no external leaking of brake fluid (failure was internal to the master cylinder). towed back home and isolated master cylinder and found it to be the issue. replaced master cylinder and brakes function properly again. (when i removed the master the boosted still held vacuum and fluid was not leaking into booster. )
Complete brake failure. parked truck and brakes worked normally. 15 minutes later started engine and brake pedal went to the floor. brake fluid reservoir was empty. no leakage at wheel cylinders or master cylinder. 36,000 miles. no prior warning of low fluid until the failure happened. towed to local ford dealer.
After driving for on for about an hour i pulled off the highway and my brake peddle went very soft. brake fluid low warning and my brake light came on. i go the truck stopped (slowly) and checked fluid - virtually empty. i nursed the truck to a service station filled fluid drove about 7 miles slowly to home and light came on again. pulled in fluid was gone. found that the fluid was leaking into the booster cylinder. have to replace the master and booster cylinder. this appears to be an open investigation and it needs to be elevated before someone is seriously hurt. this could have been an accident easily.
My 2016 ford f150 had total brake failure with out warning, this almost resulted in a major vehicle acident. the occured on a busy street with out warning the truck lost all braking and ability to stop.
On 05/11/19 while driving i experienced nearly complete brake failure. i took the truck to my local mechanic who diagnosed the failure due to the master cylinder rupturing. sequentially the leaking brake fluid drained into the brake booster which also had to be replaced. as this happened while i was driving it was quite miraculous no one was injured.
I got up started mt truck drove to work as normal. got into my truck after work started it and the brake light was on and the truck was digging multiple times. the brake pedal when pressed went all the way to the floor. i got out popped the hood and looked theres fluid in the brake reservoir. i looked on the ground and on the motor for leakage and theres nothing anywhere.
Brakes failed and it is related to the brake booster and master cylinder. have to replace both at a cost of $1500. my understanding is ford is aware of this issue but has not fixed the problem.
I went to drive into my garage and pushed the brake to stop and the peddle went to the floor. i pushed as hard as i could and it finally stopped just before i hit the back of the garage. it also happened then i was backing out of my garage. same thing happened when i was on the road in traffic. i was going slow at the time. sometimes the brake will be very stiff to push also. the peddle will barely depress. like there is no power brakes. no warning lights come on in any of these situations. there is no warning at all. this needs to be fixed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. the vehicle was taken to mike bass ford (440-934-3673, located at 5050 detroit rd, sheffield, oh 44035) for brake repairs. the contact stated that the rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced, but were not properly repaired. the contact did not provide specifics about the failure he experienced. the dealer stated that nothing else could be done. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the same dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
I was told by the sales person, (xxxxx), that the truck is under a bumper to bumper warranty, and a ford company warranty that includes even the light bulb. after just few days of driving, i noticed some vibration of the truck, bad oil burning in the cabine, griding of the wheels when i have to take sharp corners and many more issues. called the covington ford dealer about the problems/issues i have with the truck. i was told to take it to a ford dealer to have it inspected. did that. called covington ford and they told me to take it over to theyr dealer and they will checked and fix it. left the truck for over a week with them i called to see what's going on with my truck. i was told they fixed everything.now the vibration is getting worse. called again covington ford with same problems. i told them i'll go on a hunger strike in front of their dealer and ford company main office. and i will if the problem is not solved. the owner of covington ford contacted me by phone, and left me a mesage that thy will take care of the truck or get me another truck. drove again to their dealer on a saturday morning. the sales person, (xxxxx) , took a test drive and he said that yes, there are to many problems with the truck, so, i'm gonna get another one. after over 3 hours of back and forth with the owner and general manager, they offer me a older model,2015, and lower xl model. now i have f150 2016xlt. did not accepted, so they told me to hit the road. as i said, i'm gonna go on a day hunger strike, call all the media outlets. even i'll put it on face book. covington ford should be responsable and inspect the cars before they offer it for sale. i hope that you will help me to solve this problem before i'll go on a hunger strike. all i want from covington ford to stand behind their sales, honor the warranties. thank you. a very disappointed customer. An unsafe, road hazard, a booby trap f150 truck. this is what i got from a ford dealer in covington. an unsafe truck.whose fault that the truck is on the roads? would like to find out. ford comp. or the dealer? we are an older, seniors, minority couple just trying to buy our first f150 truck. on dec. 31st 2018, bought a 2016 f150 ford truck from this dealer. i was told that this truck is covered by a special ford comp. take back the truck. i have his message on my voice mail. they will try to fix it full warranty being a buy back truck, including even the light bulbs, on top of the regular warranty. . said that vibration came from the wheels no, called them again, sent them few emails. i told them that i will go on a hunger strike in front of their dealer. finally, the owner, math, called me to or they will give me another truck. they knew that the truck is not safe to drive on the streets. it's road hazard. and not talking about the smoke inside the cabin. you can die of suffocation. drove another our or so to their dealer. had erddyn, the seller guy to drive test the truck. after few minutes of drive, we noticed the vibration. he said is normal. then it started to vibrate even worst. i asked him about the strong smoke smell. did not say anything. got back to the dealer, inspected the truck.the truck was in good shape. after 2 hours of talk with the owner, they offer me get me another truck. older year model, inferior class. did not accepted, so, they said hit the road. and left after wasting over 3 hours. so, here i am with a very unsafe truck driving on the roads. sooner or later an accident is gonna happen, or me dying of suffocation in the cabin. no. i'm gonna protest in front of their dealer , and then i'm gonna do the same in front ford motor company headquarter. is their fault too. putting back on the roads a unsafe car? and covington ford to sell it.
