Problems with 2013 Ford F-150 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2013 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 77 832 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Ford F-150

My vehicle experienced a sudden complete failure of one of the transmission cooler lines just before the quick disconnect. this occurred while driving under normal conditions and under acceleration. the failure was unexpected and allowed a large amount of hot trans oil to spray on the hot exhaust manifold and turbo charger on the r side of the engine. the amount of white smoke was enough to stop traffic behind me. oil spray was noticeable on the entirety of my truck. please note this is a major risk of fire happening. the volume of hot trans fluid combined with hot exhaust and the even hotter turbos could easily ignite. online research has shown me that this is a very common failure on the f 150 trucks in this model year range. the fact that the dealer had all lines in stock tells me this is fairly common. please note the attached picture is not my actual failed line but that of an identical failure to mine found on the internet.

Relating to the ford 19s07 recall. the truck will shift into 1st gear while driving on the highway causing the rear tires to lock up and a sudden unexpected rapid deceleration and temporary loss of control of the vehicle. the recall was announced in february of 2019 and it is now may 31st of 2019 and no remedy has been provided for the 3.5l ecoboost f150's. this is a massive saftey hazard that could cause severe injury or death.

My truck is affected by an open recall and ford will not fix it. this has already cost almost $500, completely out of my own pocket. the truck downshifted from 6th gear to 1st while i was diving on the highway at 55 mph. this caused a transmission line to completely sheer at the connection. there is currently a recall for this exact problem but the ford dealership told me they were informed in am email from ford not top flash the update for 2013 models because it wasn't working. in response, the dealership fixed the line and charged me full price. now the service wrench is flashing again.

My 2013 ford unexpectedly downshift into first gear while the vehicle was in motion. i was traveling 40-45 mph. no accident or injuries. this also happened last yea, i was unaware of a recall or issue. i am worried about transmission damage, the current recall doesn't cover transmission service or inspection if you experiences this downshift. until the recall software is resolved i will not drive my truck on the highway or high speeds as i'm worried it will happen again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 45 mph, the transmission downshifted into first gear on its own, the rear wheels seized, and there was a loss of power steering. the vehicle veered to the right into a ditch and then veered back onto the road towards oncoming traffic. there was no crash or damage. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. poage ford (1110 us-61 bus, bowling green, mo 63334) was contacted by phone and the contact was informed that the parts were not available to perform the recall repair for nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 47,423. *as consumer stated after the downshift it seemed as if all electrical power also failed. car was traded in.*jb

Vehicle shifted into 1st gear while i was going 60mph. recall was issued customer satisfaction program 19n01 and dealership said there is a hold on fixing the 2013. i asked if i paid for repair out of pocket if they would fix it and was told that no that can't until hold is lifted sometime in 2nd quarter. i have three kids that are with me a lot and i'm concerned about this happening on the highway with a semi behind me. was i given the correct info on a hold for this repair?

When driving the vehicle it downshifts into first gear causing the vehicle to go into "limp mode." the first time this happened we had it towed and then discovered there had been a recall issued. since then we have had multiple breakdowns of varying degrees. the last down shift almost caused an accident as the back tires completely locked up while driving approximately 45 miles per hour. an independent mechanic has declared the truck unsafe to drive, but our local ford dealership has stated they can not fix it yet and that the drivability of the vehicle is not their problem.

My ford is experiencing symptoms of the sudden shifting issues. itwill shift into 5th from first. it has shifted from first to fifth once. it has done the former numerous times.i have called the dealership and they refused to look at it if the check engine light was not on. i am now stuck with a truck that has a recall with no solution. i am not currently driving it due to the safety concern.

The transmission will get stuck in 3rd and 5th. sometimes, it will go to first at highway speeds. taken to dealer twice for there software patch. both times it didn't work. i am fearful of driving my truck. i don't want to cause an accident. i took it in today. ford sent an email last week to service dept. that update does not work on some 2013 trucks... no kidding! waiting for an update to come through ford!!! ford should provide.loaners b/c this car is unsafe.

I received my ford recall notice on the need to reprogram power train module on or about april 1st 2019. my first instance of my 2013 f150 stx supercab, going into sudden downshift mode and then limp mode (blue wrench signal) occurred around april 12, 2019. i was driving at about 30 miles an hour on a city street when my truck when the truck downshifted by itself and the blue wrench light appeared. my truck went into limp mode and i was unable to drive. after pulling over to the side of the street, i turned off my truck, waited a few minutes and then the issue resolved itself. i took my vehicle into the ford dealership on april 18, 2019 where recall 19s07 6r80 (reprogram power train module) work was completed. on may 17, 2019, while driving about 30 miles an hour on a city street (without notice or cause) my truck again went into downshift mode, limp mode and the blue wrench light came on. same as the first instance, i pulled over to the side of the street, turned off my truck, waited a few minutes and when i turned on the truck again the issue was resolved. it was clear that this issue was electrical and no mechanical and the original recall work completed by the dealership did not resolve the issue. on 05/19/2019, i again took my truck to the ford dealership where this time the module lead frame was replaced after code p0722 was identified. i want the record to reflect that the first recall, reprogramming of the power train module did not work, and left me at risk of a second downshifting incident occurring. my truck had a second incident and after returning to the dealership a second time the leadframe was replaced. i also want to note that the dealership's data that the original recall work was completed on 04/26/2019 is inaccurate. the original recall work was performed by the dealership on 04/18/2019.

Noticeable increase in shifting times and in some cases slipping/missing gears. this occurs on highway driving and regular driving and most noticeable when attempting to pass a vehicle, increase in speed when entering the highway, or when climbing a hill and the vehicle downshifts. decrease of power is noticed when starting at a stopped position and a hesitation. vehicle was taken to a ford dealership for manufacturer recall 19s07 (https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?vin=1ftfw1et6dkf[xxx]#vin) and i was told that they received notice not to reprogram 2013 f150's with a 3.5l engine and that new programming had to be developed for these vehicles. i also received a notice in the mail about an additional recall for my vehicle (not listed in nhtsa) where a speed sensor failure may occur which require replacement of the transmission (see attached). when i've described the problems i've been experiencing with my vehicle to the ford dealership, i was told they were not symptoms of either of the recalls and would not qualify for repair under the recalls. the issues were first noticed around may 16, 2019 and have been noticed a number of times since then. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt

I engaged 4x4 low to pull some one out of the mud, heard a loud clunk after moving forward a few feet. pulled out the car when i put it back into neutral selected 2h at a slight roll the truck lost movement. the pop up box went away i put it in drive would not move, tried reverse same thing. the speedometer worked and the gear selection worked said i even shifted into second gear. i had to shift back to 4l same thing shifted into 4h started moving then back to 2h. have not even tried 4l since truck only had 61000 miles

Per recall notice 19s07, previously 19n01, transmission may downshift to first gear while moving at highway speed. i have had 3 instances of problems with and today 05/15/19 truck downshifted to first gear and locked up rear wheels. if another vehicle had been following it would have caused a serious crash with possible injuries. ford stated they did not currently have a fix although problem has existed with ford 2013 f150 ecoboost 3.5 engine vehicles for serveral months. i was traveling on highway at approximately 50 mph. this is a ford transmission problem that has been ongoing for several months with recall notices that were sent out by ford and they still have no fix.

Receives a couple notices from ford/autonation stating to schedule my truck for repairs. i did so and then dealership tells me that there is no fix as of yet. so what happens now just wait for truck to shift into reverse or park by itself? why even send me these notices if they cannot fix them and waste my time by scheduling when they don't have a software yet to fix it? will i be notified again to get this fix? am i supposed to call every day to see if the software is in? do they provide me a loaner truck in the meantime until they get the software? what is a consumer supposed to do, just drive it until hopefully they get the software and or have a wreck.

Truck never had a problem until i took it in for a oil change and to fix a recall problem. after recall fix the next week several times while driving on freeway at 60+mph the car suddenly downshifts in to a low gear and car almost co.es to a dead stop on the freeway. i pulled over and started the truck again and car worked fi e for a trip. then the next trip on the freeway the car did it again, this time i noticed a wrench pop up on the display and my speedometer moving up and down. eventually the speedometer went straight to zero, but still allowing me to drive after placing truck in (fake standard mode. after arriving home i parked car. turned off engine, restarted and speedometer worked again. call local ford dealership and drove car to shop. after having the car for 3 days they're telling me nothing they did on a software update would cause the problem. yet i never had it happen before and the recall was for the exact problem i'm having. also it looks like there was a recall on previous years that replaced more than just software. this is a serious issue. i don't believe the claims of only causing 5 accidents with no injuries. this has probably been the cause of 1000s of accidents and also deaths. but people probably are not realizing what's actually happening when a accident acurrs. after research it looks 5o be possible lead frame or speed sensor. idk but my family will park this truck and never drive again until fixed again the recall fix caused the problem, differently did not fix. 1.5 million f150 owners are on the road. i will never be behind a f150 again in case the have the same problem i did.

I recieved a recall letter for recall number 19s07 from ford in march 2019. i have since contacted ford numerous times to fix this very dangerous condition. they have continued to say they can not help me. at least once a week my truck will down shift into first gear without warning. i have almost caused an accident when this occurs at highway speed. this is a very dangerous condition and ford needs to find a fix for this immediately before someone gets seriously hurt. 2013 ford f-50 xlt with 3.5 engine

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). purvis ford lincoln (3660 jefferson davis hwy, fredericksburg, va 22408, (540) 898-3000) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were available. the dealer informed the contact to bring the vehicle in for service. the powertrain module was reprogrammed; however, the vehicle jerked violently. also, while driving various speeds, the power train warning indicator illuminated. the manufacturer was contacted several times, but did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000. *bf *jb *js

While in drive my truck will downshift from 3rd gear to first without warning and the speedometer will show zero while im still rolling around 20-30mph. i have to pull over and turn off my truck in order to reset my truck. god forbid i hope this doesn't even happen when im on the highway with my family, ford will have 5 lives depending on their electronics not glitching out. while this happens there is no codes showing up.

I was traveling north-bound on an interstate at 70 mph when the vehicle suddenly down-shifted to 1st gear. as a result, the rear tires locked up and skidded across the pavement until a slower speed was reached. i was able to maintain control of the vehicle and no injuries/accidents resulted from the occurrence.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle downshifted into third or second gear and then into neutral. the contact stated that the gear went back into drive independently. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. once restarted, the vehicle was able to drive normally. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v0750000 (power train). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact called speedway ford (located at 1710 n expy, griffin, ga 30223, (888) 324-4186) and was informed that the part was not available. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 167,000. parts distribution disconnect.

Vehicle keeps dow shifting and up shifting have called dealer numerous of times with no information of when it will be fixed and i have came close to being in an accident as well dealership will not give out a loaner vehicle either and i need this fixed now it a danger to me and other people on the road

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the wheels seized and the vehicle hesitated. as the vehicle slid, the transmission gear downshifted and the contact lost control of the vehicle. the contacted swerved off the road and was able to brake. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, the contact was able to drive home safely. the contact also stated that the check engine indicator remained illuminated for an entire weekend. the vehicle was taken to perry ford national city (2050 national city blvd, national city, ca 91950, (619) 477-2711) where it was in the process of being diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 98,000.

My ford dealer updated the power train: automatic transmission control module as per safety recall (nhtsa #19v075000). my transmission still is shifting erratically, especially hard shifting from 5th to 4th. dealer told me that the software update for this recall did not work as expected for the 2013 model f-150 and ford has not issued an new software update to resolve.

May 2019 received an additional notice from ford motor co. customer satisfaction program notice #19n01, received saferty recall nhtsa 19v-075/srn 19s07. seems to me that once ford motor co decides to affect the safety recall, they should also check out this new problem as well while the vehicle is at the dealership. ford knows this is going to be an issue, so instead of offering to extend warranty to 150,000 miles or until nov 30, 2019. they should automatically inform dealerships to inspect and perform corrective measures to maintain their "quality one" matrix as they profess.

Vehicle has loud ticking noise when cold started, seemed to be coming from passenger side catalytic converter. took vehicle to dealer for warranty emission repair, dealer stated turbo had gone bad and wiped out turbo. vehicle has 63,000 miles just outside of the power train warranty, dealer declined assistance and wanted $2500 to repair turbo and would then replace the catalytic converter. vehicle is very well maintained have all records, if turbo were to fail while driving it could have possibly destroyed the engine stated the dealer. why is an essential part of the engine failing at such low mileage? vehicle also has intermittent shifting problem around 40-45mph seems to shift erratically, dealer says transmission lead frame could be issue or ecm/pcm programming, they have not done any of those repairs yet.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the contact heard loud abnormal noises then the vehicle downshifted. there were no warning indicators illuminated. tyler ford (2626 s sw loop 323, tyler, tx 75701, (800) 788-7876) previously repaired the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the vehicle had not been repaired a second time. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 49,000.

Serious vibration at or around 45 to 70mph . steering wheel vibration , front end vibration . usually around the time the transmission temp hits the normal temp truck starts vibrating . usually starts at 40mph and gets worst with higher mph . bought the truck back in nov of 2018 all was fine till about 2 months ago when the vibration started . not very happy.

Driving on a two-lane highway, vehicle shifted into first gear at 35 - 40 mph resulting in a sudden jolt, speedometer went to zero. after the jolt, vehicle shifted back up into third gear and speedometer started working. this has happened at least three times, always at a similar speed and when coasting (no throttle, no brake applied). recent software recall has been done and the problem persists.

2013 ford f-150 ecoboost with 62000 miles. currently giving cel code p0016. this is the timing chain stretch issue. makes it difficult to accelerate to pass a vehicle. should not have this issue with 62k miles. now that i am 2k miles out of power train warranty it is not covered even though i had it to dealer for service and nothing was ever mentioned with this issue. i have had the rattle for some time.

While driving the 2013 ford 150 ecoboost, it suddenly lost power, the wrench light came on.... tried accelerating but was not able to...had to find a way to move out of the street before something happened and have someone crash the back....horrible experience..after finding a place to park, turned the truck off...when turned it back on was working fine again while driving the 2013 ford f150 ecoboost. it suddently lost power, the wrench light came on, i tried to accelerate but was not able to. i had to pull over to the side of the road, turn off the truck and turn it back on. when i turned it back on it was working fine again. this has happened multiple times during the week. and ford is no help unless the check engine light comes on. it's is super unsafe to drive, yet ford says to keep driving the vehicle.

Ford recall number 19s07. 3.5 l engine. vehicle in motion. city street and highway speeds. problem. unintended downshift into first gear causing abrupt wheel speed reduction. no available remedy from ford motor company.

Was driving my eco boost while towing a 26 foot travel trailer and while in 4th gear truck instantly and without warning shifted into 1st gear causing rpms to be dangerously high. the truck/trailer combo instantly slowed and truck would not ,automatically or manually, shift out of first gear. we continued driving in first gear for a short distance when we smelled transmission fluid. we stopped the truck to investigate and found our transmission line had busted which leaked fluid all over the road. we had truck towed to local ford dealership who told us that the transmission shifting issue is related to a current recall but ford has not issued a fix for the recall. the dealer then charged me $568.21 to fix the transmission line stating that ford has not included the transmission line fix in their related recall. ford is refusing to pay associated towing expenses, as well. i called ford customer relations to lodge a complaint regarding this issue and was told the dealer makes final decisions. case id # cas-17653886. ford tells me i need to continue to drive this truck knowing there is a transmission issue until ford releases a fix for these transmissions. i feel it is completely unsafe to drive knowing this could happen at any given moment while driving and especially for a truck that is already known to have had this happen.

After the last recall for the programming of the trans where it could downshift into first gear at any speed the trans shifts really hard into second gear from first gear i just thought it would have to relearn it's self from the last recap but it keeps happening and sometimes it's a pretty hard shift and i recently had the trans fully serviced so i know it's not a maintenance issue

As i am driving in motion on highway or street the truck will down shift by its self causing me to skid to a stop, as i try to accerlearate it will not upshift, for a minute or two. this has happened many times! causing many near crash conditions.

I have stopped driving my 2013 ford f150 and can't believe they have not been pulled of the road. they are unsafe to everyone around them. my vehicle has downshifted on 6 occasions ranging from 6th gear and 4th gear down to 1st gear. my vehicle locked up rear wheels until i was able to get down to 5mph. had to pull off the road and turn off vehicle and it worked again. i am disappointed in ford and nhtsa for allowing this to happen. my ford f150 has sat in my driveway for over a month now. what does it going to take to have this fix?

Ford has yet to fix my recall. i drive 100 miles everyday and have almost have had several wrecks due to the issue. safety recall- 19s07

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the contact stated that gervais ford (located at 5 littleton rd, ayer, ma 01432, (978) 772-6600) exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the part was not available for the repair. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

2013 ford f-150 ecoboost 6-cyl with six speed transmission. a few weeks ago i received ford recall 19s07, stating that the vehicle may unexpectedly downshift to 1st gear increasing the possibility of an accident. it also stated that the software needed to correct this condition was not expected to be completed for several months and that i would be notified when it was ready. since receiving the recall notice, the vehicle experienced the issue noted in the recall. this happened while my 17 year old was driving on a two-lane road at 55mph - the vehicle downshifted without warning, causing the vehicle to skid abruptly, nearly throwing him against the steering wheel. we immediately took it to the dealership and they said 5th gear was cracked. the dealership told me i would be responsible for the repair and that it would cost between $3500 and $5000. i contacted ford via their website to tell them that i should not be responsible for this. i was told the vehicle was out of warranty and that if i had issues i should communicate with the dealership. the vehicle remains at the dealership because i'm assuming it is not safe to drive until repaired.

Vehicle intermittently sputters when accelerating from a stop and also when the vehicle is in motion. i replaced the ignition coil and spark plug in cylinder 3. unfortunately, the intermittent sputter continues to be an issue as well as the check engine light being activated. accelerating in traffic and from a stop is dangerous and requires additional attention and driving techniques to prevent a potential rear end collision caused by a vehicle approaching my vehicle from the rear.

Driving down road truck shifts from 6th gear to 1st gear. feels like hitting a brick wall. brought to ford dealer ship told me part of recall part won't be out till april. called ford company told me nothing they can do for me to drive the vehicle like that. voiced my safety concern due to power train being main part of vehicle as well as danger of truck down shift at high speed. ford motor company still stated they can not help me even though part of recall

I have the recall nhtsa 19v-075 the procedure that ford says to preform did not fix the issue all it did was make sure the check engine light kicks on the transmission still will go too fist gear intermittently ford needs too fix this issue before someone gets hurt or even die's my personal vehicle did shift too first gear at 70 miles per hour on i79 on march 1st

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear without warning and the speedometer was not functioning properly. the contact stated that the vehicle seized and the engine shut off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but it continued to downshift while driving to park on the side of the road. the vehicle was taken to laird noller ford topeka (located at 2245 sw topeka blvd, topeka, ks 66611) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. the following day, the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the contact called the dealer and notified them of the letter. the vehicle was repaired for the recall, but the failure recurred on may 9, 2019. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer who stated that they needed to follow protocol to complete the manufacturer recall, including a new wiring harness and lead casting. the vehicle was not repaired again. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 128,000.
