Problems with 2013 Ford F-150 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2013 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 77 832 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Ford F-150

I recently purchased this vehicle used less than a week ago. i have only driven it for about 75 miles. while driving down a busy street at 45 miles an hour the truck down shifted to first gear and simultaneously the speedometer stopped working. i kept control of the vehicle but if a vehicle would have been following closely it is possible if not likely to have rear ended me. i checked the vin and it states no open recalls. evidently the vehicle was serviced for one of the past recalls which clearly describes this same event as an issue. i will contact the dealership grey daniels ford in brandon ms where it was purchased for inspection.

While driving 65 mph my 2013 f150 downshifted into first gear and locked the rear tires cause me to spin out of control. this caused minor body damage to the vehicles rear bumper, from hitting something off the side of the road. i called multiple dealerships and explained what happened at the beginning of febuary 2020. they explained that they could get me into fix the problem for about 20 days at minimum and even then they would have to keep it longer to fix it if there was something wrong. i explained that i almost rolled the vehicle after spinning out of control and asked if they could get it in sooner, the answer was continuously no from all of the dealers. i asked them if i should still drive the vehicle and they said it shouldn't be a problem to do so, i then stated so you want me to continue to drive the vehicle even though this happened and potentially get into an accident and injury myself and or someone else or permanently damage the vehicles powertrain. they still said that it should be ok to drive the vehicle. well it locked up again causing another spin out and i almost hit a school bus. how is this legal? i even called ford extended care for help and they told me that this is a recall and even though i have premium care it only covers a 10 day rental for things other then a recall and to call the dealers back for further details. so i called the dealers back and the dealers told me there rentals are all book for the next 2 weeks. a vehicle that almost killed me and other people because of this mechanical flaw shouldn't be legal to sell. and how am i supposed to go to work and get my kids around for the next month, when ford will do nothing to help. how is it that they would let me and others drive these vehicle and it not be mandated they be picked up from peoples homes and fixed. this is criminal of ford and it was a going to kill someone.

I was driving on a highway going approximately 60 mph when it unexpectedly downshifted. my momentum violently jerked me forward, the tires squeeled, and the rpm gauge went up to over 6,000. another issue is that it occasionally will not shift out of first gear. i will be starting from a stop and i'll be going about 10-15mph and if i don't let off the throttle the engine will just rev up past 4000 rpms.

Unexpectedly downshifting into first gear while in motion, speed ometer and mileage goes to zero, rpms starts to run high, and the tool light on the dash board comes on, in city streets and on highway driving. i have to stop and shut down the vehicle and wait a few minutes. when i start up the vehicle and put it in drive gear the transmission jerks.

Vehicle gets stuck in first gear sometimes and wont shift, several times vehicle has shifted to first gear on its own, also vehicle shifts erratically and gets stuck in third gear, dash quits speedo, tach, info center on dash quits working as well as odometer. have to key off to re-set. this has happen mostly on city streets and occasionally on the highway.

Truck being driven apx 55 mph and no change from me truck has sudden slowdown with speedometer drop to 40s then recovers as truck speeds up on it's own. same day as trying to park, in drive, pressing on gas engine revs but does not move. today (7 days later) accelerating from stop transmission sticks in low gear. has had powertrain recall applied.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle downshifted abruptly without warning. the failure recurred while driving 65 mph. prior to the failures, the contact took the vehicle to apple ford (8800 stanford blvd, columbia, md 21045, (410) 290-1100) and was informed that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v433000 (power train). the contact called the same dealer about the failures and was given an appointment for an inspection. the contact attempted to contact the manufacturer, but was unsuccessful. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

My 2013 f-150 will suddenly downshift while i am doing 25-35 mph. sometimes it will not upshift from 1st gear. it may take several seconds or several minutes for it to shift out of 1st gear. when it does upshift again it will slam into the higher gear. sometimes the speedometer stops working, the airbag icon comes on, the engine icon comes on, a wrench icon comes on, sometimes the display is a series of dashes and sometimes the display is blank. if i stop and restart the engine sometimes the symptoms go away and sometimes the icons remain visible.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while the vehicle was parked on a down hill driveway, it began to roll backwards. the gear was shifted into park, but the parking brake was not applied. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact was able to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal. on a different occasion, while driving 50 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle began to shake forcefully. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to exceed 50 mph. the contact was able to park on the side of the road for thirty minutes before restarting the vehicle and continuing to drive with no failure. the contact opened the hood and noticed that the radiator was covered in oil. the vehicle was taken to rod baker ford sales inc. (located at 16101 s lincoln hwy, plainfield, il 60586, (815) 436-5681), but was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 104,219.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the air bags warning light illuminated, the vehicle independently downshifted to 1st gear, and the wheel started to slide. the contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road. the contact turned the vehicle off and back on and the vehicle operated as intended. the vehicle was taken to (mike ferrell ford lincoln, inc.1705 w 3rd ave, williamson, wv 25661) where it was diagnosed that the wire harness failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred multiple times. the contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 19v433000 (power train) as a possible solution to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

After the first incident with sudden down shifting of my transmission, i took my truck in to my local ford dealership. i was informed that a new programming fix was available for the active recall. the "fix" was completed, and now about 3 weeks later the truck continues to downshift suddenly. not only sudden downshifting, but during acceleration the transmission seems to struggle shifting out of first gear. my truck only has about 57k miles.

Was driving 2013 ford f150 fx4 with ecoboost engine about 60 miles per hour when truck suddenly shifted into 1st gear and caused truck to rev rpm's and rapidly and unexpectedly to decrease speed due to shifting to first gear almost causing an accident on a city street. after the speed decrease, unable to get car into higher gear and drove at very low speeds to exit road. turned car off and on and it not help. after about 5 minutes, car was able to drive but experienced the issue several more times driving to mechanic. another family member experienced the same issue the day before, but did not realize the truck was shifting into 1st gear. took truck to mechanic and ran diagnostics for $100 fee and was told me to take to dealership for a known issue. at the dealership, a "fix" was implemented, but the fix caused another issue and when the air conditioning started, the whole dash vibrates and make loud noises. dealership still has truck trying to figure out issue of loud noise when turning on ac. did not have issue with vibrating until the "fix" was issued. nor did the mechanic notice the issue with the ac when it was taken in for a diagnostic before taking to dealership.

While cruising down the highway this past weekend at 75 mph the truck suddenly went down into 3rd gear, then down to first and went into a stall mode. i pressed down on the accelerator and received no response. the rpm gauge went up to almost 5000. i then placed the transmission in neutral and then back to drive, whereupon the vehicle finally went back to normal and in 6th gear!

When pulling off of a residential street onto a city street the evening of oct 1, 2019 (speed limit 45 mph) my truck got stuck in 1st gear. with traffic around me, i attempted to shift into 3rd 2nd and 1st, but no change. i went back to drive and still no change. then a wrench showed up next to the odometer and the odometer went to - - - - - and speedometer went to 0, rpm still worked. i pulled off the road and turned off truck and restarted and all was fine. this happened to me a couple of days before, but when i shifted to 3rd, it started working again. i had the transmission related reprogram recall completed on 23 sept. both shifting events occurred after the reprogram. this could be a serious safety concern if it happens at a busy time. fortunately traffic was light when it happened to me both times. there doesn't seem to be a mechanical problem because turning the engine off and immediately turning on corrected the problem both times. it could be coincidental that this is happening after the reprogram, but i wanted to report because of the number of other people experiencing the same problems. it seems very similar to the descriptions from some people regarding the lead frame issue reported on the 2012 model.

Upon trying to pass or accelerate my truck ,it loss power and boggle down check engine lights are on. leaving my house three blocks away from my distanation

While driving about 45 mph on a city road the truck suddenly downshifted into either 1st or 2nd gear. this caused a sudden slow down and loss of power while in traffic. the powertrain warning indicator light flashed and my truck went into limp mode for the remainder of the ride home. after parking my truck and re starting the vehicle, no warning indicators are visible, check engine light is not on and the truck seems to be operating normal. i contacted ford customer service and they said my truck was under the recall, but no fix was currently available. ford customer service then told me to take my truck to a dealership and they would tell me if it was safe to continue to drive. quick recap: the truck downshifted, sudden slow down, recall states this may cause loss of control of vehicle, ford says no fix available at this time, ford also says take it to a dealership even though they admit the dealership cant fix it. ford also refused to provide documentation stating the vehicle was or was not safe to drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact heard a loud, abnormal noise when trying to accelerate more than 10 mph. the contact also stated that the power train fault warning indicator was illuminated and the transmission temperature was between 180 to 190 degrees. also, on another occasion, the vehicle began to hesitate and turned off while driving. the vehicle was unable to be driven. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. a dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the failure mileage was 102,000.

While accelerating quickly, but not so much as to spin the tires, the vehicle started "bucking". i was doing about 35-40 when it got pretty bad. the engine felt as if it was stopping and starting very quickly. it was actually pretty hard to control and it causes the truck to not allow me to accelerate onto the highway or even reach highway speeds. the check engine light started flashing and did not stop flashing for about 2 minutes. the truck would also not let me accelerate for that amount of time either.

1. engine doesn't run smooth at highway speed.. 2. powertrain, transmission - received a recall 19v-075 for software update notice 6/25/2019. took the f150 to gateway ford dealership for the update. the next time tried to accelerate (8/16/19) the transmission shifter eradicable the dash icons flashed and the pickup stalled as to be in low gear, i shut off the ignition after pulling to the side of the road, restarted it after a bit and continued on my way. this has happened again, not sure of dates. as i was traveling out of south dakota i contacted gateway, they said to take the pickup to another ford dealership and they would fix it. took it to auto nation ford in corpus christi, tx. they wouldn't fix it . they said the update wad already done. the pickup drove and worked good prior to the recall update and now it will shift radically and dash icon flashing when accelerating rapidly. in addition the drivers seat is wearing out. it should rear better than that. the pickup only has 90,178 miles on it and should last me longer than that. one more issue. the positive battery post continually corrodes. i've cleaned it many times and still corrodes. please have someone address these issues on my f150. i think there should be no cost to me per your advertising on tv. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the transmission downshifted on its own and the tires slid. the vehicle began to coast as the transmission kicked back into gear. in addition, the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was driven to bredemann ford (2038 waukegan rd, glenview, il 60025, (847) 510-5585), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.

Since purchased new the engine will intermittently completely shut down especially during damp weather. it has spent weeks at different dealerships yet the problem persists. the engine will sputter and kill taking with it the power steering, brakes, and lights. it is still an issue today. the other problem that is really concerning is the automatic transmission will suddenly shift itself into first gear at highway speeds and send rpms racing for no reason. i was told by my dealership v&h in marshfield that they 'reprogrammed' the transmission but that still happens from time to time. all of these things happened mainly at highway speeds with the engine being most common during wet weather. it happens rather frequently with the last episode being on 8/12/19

On 10 aug 2019 i took my ford in for transmission recall, reprogramming to prevent uncontrolled downshifting. i had never had had any problems with downshifting prior to this date. once recall was done within a week my truck drastically downshifted twice before taking it back to the dealer who performed the recall. they said there was no problem with my truck and told me my wheels locking was not a sign of downshifting. now i continue to have downshifting issues and also am throwing a p0720 code. i just know that the downshifting broke the leadframe and i looking at a huge bill. now vehicle goes into limp mode where i have to stop and restart my car to get speedometer to show.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v345000 (service, brakes hydrualic) regarding the master cylinder and brake booster. a computer update was also performed on the vehicle after an indicator concerning the transmission and two other unknown indicators flashed. after the repairs, the down hill descent and service advancetrac warning indicators illuminated. the contact called parkway ford (2104 peters creek pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27127, (877) 836-4271) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

Struggling gear to gear doing acceleration and spontaneously downshifting periodically on its own. i have participated in two recalls dealing with the unexpected downshifting but no change to the issue i am still having the same problems the last recall was 7/12/2019. it seems like to use recalls are not fixing the issue what can i do? i will kindly appreciate some type of feedback to steer me in the right direction for i am locked into financial responsibilities with this vehicle at the same time i fear for my safety and others around me?

Engine turbo, 100000 miles took to dealership to take a look at. dealer found nothing. at 108000 miles started having the same issues with truck down shifting and grinding and engine squealing.

1. while driving at highway speeds (around 70 mph) the vehicle suddenly down-shifted into 2nd gear. the rear tires briefly locked up, but control of the vehicle was managed. 2. while driving, both in town and on the highway, the vehicle would downshift from 6th gear to 5th. the vehicle would then not shift below 3rd gear when brought to a stop. turning the vehicle off and on again would reset the problem. the maintenance light and airbag light illuminated. the speedometer went to 0. the odometer and other digital readings in the center cluster on the dash showed all dashes. after several of these events, the check engine light also illuminated. 3. after one of the events described in 2 above, the vehicle was stopped, shifted into reverse, and then returned to drive. the vehicle would not move and acted as though it was in neutral. shutting the vehicle off and on again corrected the problem. the local ford dealership is aware of the problem and has scheduled an appointment for a diagnosis. ford safety recall notice 19s07 was performed in march 2019. ford safety recall notice 19s19 was performed in july 2019, after the first event, but did not correct the issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact took the vehicle to town and country ford (5401 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28212, (704) 557-0596) to be serviced per an unknown recall. upon leaving the dealer and approaching a red light, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle stalled. after several attempts of applying pressure to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle began to move very slowly. the contact stated that the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 142,987.

After having recall of transmission issue performed the vehicle is sluggish and dashboard lights come on intermittent (image of wrench and airbag)

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly downshifted from fifth to second gear, causing the speed to abruptly decrease. in july of 2019, the vehicle was serviced at gloff ford (1206 n ave g, clifton, tx) per nhtsa campaign number: 19v433000 (power train), but the failures continued. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the failure was duplicated; however, they determined that a simple tune-up was needed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 148,000.

I was driving in town and had to brake hard (not enough to screech the tires) due to the car in front of me. when i tried to accelerate again the truck sort of lagged, took a second to begin accelerating. things seemed ok for a minute so i continued on my way. suddenly the rpm needle began to go all over the dial and the wrench light came on. i decided to head back to town since the truck felt strange. as i was driving on a major road (under speed to the side with my flashers on), all of a sudden the truck just stopped accelerating. the engine was still running but i just wasnt going anywhere. i was able to coast to a safe stop. also i started to smell something like a burning smell so i pulled over, turned the truck off, and called for a tow.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise, the vehicle downshifted into first gear, and the engine lost power. the contact was able to park the vehicle on the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to thornhill ford lincoln (located at u.s. 119 north 500 ford fairlane, chapmanville, wv 25508, (304) 855-8300) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the dealer stated that the failure was not associated with nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 157,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign at 5 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear and stalled. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact stated that multiple unknown warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. when the contact turned off the engine and restarted the vehicle, there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was associated with nhtsa campaign number: 19v750000 (power train). the vehicle was taken to boshears ford (located at 15081 w michigan ave, marshall, mi 49068) to be diagnosed, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 70,000.

At 60 mph on 6/22/2019 this vehicle dropped to second gear causing me to lose control. this vehicle was recalled (ford 19s07) and dealer repaired on 3/26/19 prior to the above event. obviously the recall "fix" doesn't work.

Recall 19s07: recall description: on your vehicle, an intermittent failure of the output speed sensor (oss) in the transmission may result in an unintended downshift to first gear. risk to safety: an unintended downshift into first gear can cause an abrupt wheel speed reduction, which could cause the rear tires to slide until the vehicle speed slows down. this condition could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. remedy program: ford motor company has authorized your dealer to reprogram the powertrain control module with software that will prevent an unintended downshift into first gear in the event of an intermittent oss failure. this service will be performed free of charge (parts and labor). f-150 3.5l, 5.0l, and 6.2l vehicles: ford motor company is working as quickly as possible to develop the software for this repair. when the software become available, ford motor company will notify you via mail to schedule a service appointment with your dealer for repairs to be completed free of charge (parts and labor). the software is anticipated to be available by late 2nd quarter, 2019. status: 11 - recall incomplete my vehicle shifted into 1st gear while traveling 70 mph and towing a boat. this nearly caused a accident which would have resulted in deadly consequences. i took it to the ford dealership and they have quoted me $5136.51 to fix the damages due to fords software issue. it has damaged the transmission and they are refusing to fix it.

I received notice of recall to schedule repair (software) upgrade. i contacted the dealer several times to only be told to keep calling back to see if they have received the software upgrade from ford. they said there is no problem with continuing to drive the truck until the problem is repaired.

I was on my way to work as a firefighter for my shift when with no warning my truck went from high gear straight down to first gear then to park causing sudden stop and a minor accident on i275 cincinnatti then coming home it instantly went into park on us route 50 causing my truck to go out of control and swerved over into the oncoming lane almost hitting someone head on then could not move the truck as it was stuck in park sitting sideways between both lanes i finally was able to get it to move again but it barely moved as it was in high gear stuck there. i was able to barely remove it from the road and had to have a tow truck retrieve it and bring it to my house this is a real safety issue that ford is not in a hurry to fix on a recall issue on the transmissions therefore leaving me without a truck or vehicle to drive almost had a serious crash twice now. plus my transmission is completely out of my truck now no movement for any loading etc.

Hello, my name is [xxx] and i just recently purchased a 2013 ford f-150 with 98,500 miles 3 weeks ago. i had just gotten home from work and i had to take my girlfriend to meet someone. as we were pulling out the driveway i noticed that on the gear indicator in the gauge cluster it showed i was in 5th gear, i tried to accelerate a little thinking it was a bug in the cluster but it was actually in 5th gear. i got to the end of the driveway and shut the truck off. i proceeded to start the truck back up and pull out of the driveway because everything had seemed like it went back to normal. about 5 minutes down the road as i was going 60 mph the truck locked up the rear tires and skidded into the opposite lane, luckily no one was approaching me. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Ford has known about the leadframe issue on the transmissions for a very long time. their fix, besides extending the warranty, is to modify the software. however, they've now delayed that fix until an expected october date for my 2013 f-150. that is totally unacceptable. they should be required to replace the leadframe now.

The dealership's first available appointment to address the recall was two weeks out. after trying to get an earlier appointment as the transmission had shifted gears while we were towing a trailer down a hill almost causing us to crash. the receptionist then told us that they actually cant make the correction and that we would be receiving a letter in the mail and refused to take our vehicle in.

While driving on 6/2/2019 at about 40 miles per hour i suddenly felt like i had been hit in the rear end by a truck. the transmission down shifting also caused the failure of the u-joint on the truck. when taking it to my local repair shop there was also metal found in the bottom of the transmission pan now resulting in a need to replace or repair the transmission at considerable expense $4000+. in looking up to see if there are any recalls i found what had happened.
