For a few months when i would accelerate from a red light or sitting still the smell of rotten eggs would come into my vehicle. with me having kids i figured it was just them passing gas, however repeatedly it started happening & if the a/c or heater was on it was worse. i took it to world ford in pensacola on tuesday 02/04/2020, they did not get to it until 02/05/2020 and they informed me that they had a diagnosis & the way my vehicle was designed the aerodynamics were allowing the exhaust fumes to enter the cabin. i am absolutely upset at this being as though not only myself, but my kids, other passengers, and their kids have been exposed to carbon monoxide in a closed in area. ford makes it sound acceptable by saying it's covered under warranty however a manufacturer default needs to be recalled and fixed immediately, this problem could have been fatal to myself, my family, and my friends.
Exhaust fumes entering the cabin of vehicle near middle and rear seats.while driving down highway at 70mph passengers turned on air for the back and an odd smell was noticed. air was turned off at the back. once at location ready to park smell began to get worse. very noticeable inside and outside. odor clung to skin. possibly co leak.
I never received a recall in the mail. vehicle was purchased in june 2019 but the recall ended in august 2019 and i would like to have this repaired
Strong smell of natural gas or exhaust entering the cabin. seems to be coming in through the air vents. as that's where the smell is the most intense. it also gets worse when the car is stationary. but it is noticeable throughout the whole drive. at this point even after only two days it's almost unbearable to drive and the whole cabin is stained with the smell.
Going down hill at speed of 40km/h, then slow down for a red light stop, the gas rpm suddenly jumps to 3000rpm , even i stepped hard on the brake padel, that 3000rpm still existing and last for 5 seconds, then it back to normal of 900rpm.
I was merging to enter the highway when all the sudden i couldn't control the acceleration and almost got hit by another car. the car will not respond to the gas pedal like if it was in the neutral position. this keeps happening randomly especially when driving a lower speeds and once you try to accelerate the car wouldn't respond for a bit and then does it abruptly. i almost got into a second accident and it was when i took it to the dealership because i refuse to drive it. they have my car since almost two months now without solving the problem completely because it does not show up in the computer diagnostic and they don't even have a recall for it. this is a very dangerous problem and it should off been part of a recall long time ago.
Exhaust/rotten egg small inside and outside the car while it is running with heat on.
When i turn the heat on a horrible smell like rotten eggs comes in the vehicle. the odor is so strong it has caused headaches and has made me and family feel sick to our stomachs
Exhaust or gas smell in the cabin. especially noticeable after longer drives. so strong you can smell it in the house after parking in the garage. took it to a ford dealer and was told they couldn't find anything.
My car was completely totaled in an accident on 10/21/19. i received very serious multiple brain bleeds, facial lac, facial & head fx's & a severe tbi. my mom rec a concussion, facial lac concussion & a fx clavicle. we stopped at the stop sign & moved to the center between the 4 lanes & stopped again & we were hit by a large roll on roll off rock carrying dump truck in the middle of the lanes. the car was completely totaled & i was in a coma & airlifted to a trauma ctr approx 40 mins away, but i was in resp arrest & not expected to live. it is unknown exactly what caused the unsafe conditions, however i never cross straight across the traffic & we had been on a very very bumpy intersection the fri before the acc on monday & the car had not been driven since that 5 hr trip of extremely bumpy rough road conditions on interstate 95 coming through part of nc, all of sc & part of ga.
The exhaust fumes and carbon monoxide are present in the vehicle's cabin while driving. the car was serviced at the ford dealer twice for this problem. first time was after ford issued an official " customer satisfaction program" related to this issue. since i was constantly dealing with dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning i took the car to the dealer again. i was told that the previous "repair" was not done properly and needed to be corrected. the "correction" did not help. the carbon monoxide meter i keep in the car frequently sounds the alarm and shows elevated levels of co. the highest level i have seen was 52 ppm before opening all widows. i have multiple video recording of the meter reading going up while driving. now i'm driving with windows opened and ac off to avoid getting sick. i contacted the dealer, they promised to contact ford for some suggestions. i made multiple attempts to follow up and every time i heard that ford did not answer yet.
Smell of sulfur or natural gas in the cabin, causing headaches and dizziness. the issue seems to be worsened if climate control fans are blowing. the issue occurs while driving or idling.
Carbon monoxide in car. i drive up to 8 hours a day fro my job. over the past several months i've experience dizziness and nausea thought out the day and recently learned of co issues with ford explorers. i purchased a co detector last week to test my car over the past 3 days the alarm has gone off indicating high levels of co in the cabin while the car was in motion and stopped. specifically, with the air conditioner on "auto" at approximately 3500rpm the detector registered co in the cabin, at 4500 rpm the level of co doubled.
Tires - all 4 hanook tires dot # 5mnc 1a h (0216) 255/50/r20 treads have been chipping and peeling up resulting in unsafe conditions and excessive wear. these tires are clearly problematic tires and completely worn out at 20,000 miles. manufacturer is aware if this resulting from new compounds (materials) used in manufacturing. high speed blowouts have been reported for this particular tire yet no recall has been issued for this tire despite its defects and safety concerns. i first noticed it on the two front tires. it is shocking that ford would use these tires.
My wife is the primary driver of the ford explorer we purchased in 2016 - and has been noticing issues with her health. digging into it we have come to find out about the the carbon monoxide issue within the ford explorer. i purchased a carbon monoxide detector and placed it in the vehicle. on saturday, june 1st, 2019 we drove one hour away from our house - and the carbon monoxide detector went off multiple times during the trip to an from. the one dangerous level we were experiencing was 90ppm, we instantly opened all the windows. the reading coincided with us both experiencing headaches before the detector went off. the irony is that based on he concerns i have read about with the ford explorer we were driving to a dealership to look at another car because of the carbon monoxide issues.
My 2016 ford explorer cabin has been filling with co i purchased a co detector a month ago after feeling sick while driving on multiple occasions. today the co detector read 15 with no air on. yesterday it read 18 with air conditioning on. i feel this could be dangerous to people who don't know about co poisoning symptoms. please help me with this.
Have a 2016 explorer xlt. last summer and this summer (mainly while ac is on) the wierd noise of whoop, whoop or slide whistle or police sirens emitts from the rear of the vehicle. things i know 1) makes noise intermittently during driving at all speeds. 2) cant reproduce sound for dealer 3) make noise mainly while ac is on 4) will make noise while idling in park 5) noise comes from rear of vehicle, unknowing of a certain side left or right 6) only 2 posts i can find that somewhat describes this noise on the internet, niether apply any help or experiences would be appreciated, otherwise a great vehicle
I have had an issue in the transmission or shifting and won't go into gear or drive until you take it and put back to park. then sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. i took it to the dealer and they had a ford engineer that thought they figured it out after shelling something and repairing it. it worked for a month and now is back at dealer for a second time. seems to be with 4 wheel drive or transmission
Very strong sulfur smell inside the cabin when the heat or vent is turned on with outside air. smell disappeared when it was switched to recirculate the inside air.
My car has had the exhaust issue repaired a few times and it still has the smell. i can't drive long distances without a headache. ford can't seem to fix the problem. it seems to happen mostly in sport mode when accelerating quickly but the smell is strong and lasts. i have a toddler who is speech delayed and i believe it's due to the car. she's been in this car since she was a baby. how can i get help? car was purchased new. we've had it a few years now. i noticed the problem before it became a known issue.
I have had two incidents of dizziness while driving our 2016 ford explorer. both times i've been to the doctor. this last time to the emergency room and had complete work up including cat scan. they can find nothing. it was only after today's er visit that my husband remembered a new story about ford explores and drivers getting dizzy and accidents. we started googling the ford explorer and read that the nhtsa is currently still investigating this possibility of carbon monoxide in ford explorer cabins. we have owned this vehicle for 14 months. the first incident was on 4/2519 the second on 4/27/19. unfortunately when we thought of this issue, it was too far past the incident to have my blood work check for carbon monoxide
One morning, i began to smell a sulfur or gas-like smell inside the car. i thought nothing of it but it persisted from 5:00 a.m. -9:00 a.m. my 7 year old son even smelled it when entering the car. after dropping him off at school i drove to dealership to get it inspected. during that drive, with the windows cracked, i began to feel a dull headache, dizziness and muscle weakness. once i dropped my car off for inspection and was out of the car i didn't feel any better and my headache and weakness got worse. my wife took me to the er out of precaution and after bloodwork was taken, i was confirmed to have had carbon monoxide poisoning. i am a non-smoker and my cohb levels were twice that of a non-smoker : 3.8% it was raining out so i could not unrolli windows as much as i wanted to. i was not driving with the a/c on, was not sitting idle. minimum speed was 5-10 mph and max speed was 70 mph ford identified the smell as a failing ptu but claimed there was no co present after driving the vehicle with a co sensor inside the cab. i have owned the vehicle for 32 months with no issue but i cannot ignore that i did in fact have carbon monoxide exposure immediately following the existence of the strong sulfur smell showing up. i am not convinced carbon monoxide getting inside the vehicle will not happen again.
I brought my 2016 ford explorer sport into lhm draper on april 29th with some service concerns. the most important problem was a clunking/knocking/buckling noise in the front end when turning the wheel. after leaving the car for 12 days i discovered they did not fix anything. for the next 9 days as i drove the car i noticed that the clunking noise was still very much present and happening every single day. there wasn't a single day that i didn't hear this noise. i took the car back in on may 24th again for a clunking/knocking noise in front end when the wheel is turned. also a whining/winding noise from the steering wheel. i picked the car up on june 4th only to discover it still wasn't fixed. i have sent several messages to the dealer with no response. the car makes this noise daily. to my dismay, i did some google searches on the internet yesterday for potential causes of this knocking noise and discovered this is a huge problem with ford explorers!!! there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints!!! i also understand ford recalled earlier model year explorers with power steering problems with this same knocking noise. i am concerned that i am now outside of my warranty period. i know all too well about that. we have a 2006 ford f350 with only 55,000 miles sitting on the side of our house that hasn't been drivable for years. about a year after we bought the truck, we began having problems with overheating and one day it started blowing white smoke. we immediately took it to the dealer and were told that this particular truck has problems with the egr cooler. the vehicle was serviced, but sometime after the warranty expired it began experiencing the same problems and ford washed their hands of it. we've been told that it will cost over $10k to get it fixed. so there it sits! this vehicle is only 3 years old with 33,000 miles.
On 3/21/19 i was driving when a car stopped in front of me and i hit them. my airbag went off and was smoking black smoke. there was also a fire, about 1.5 ft tall that appeared from the passenger side of the hood. i sat in shock until someone told me to get out. i got out and grabbed my 4 year old daughter. she was in a car seat and still secured after the accident. thankfully we were not seriously injured. we sat watching my car quickly engulf in flames. by the time the fire department came the car was pretty much all burned. i lost a lot of valuable and sentimental personal belongings in my car which insurance does not cover the cost of. it was a terrifying experience to go through for my daughter and i. i do not believe that a minor accident should cause a fire like this. i have reached out for ford multiple times and they will not investigate which i find extremely frustrating. i would like to prevent this horrible thing happening to someone else. although we were not injured it could have been a lot worse, and even deadly.
I have had my ford explorer for almost two months and just took my first long trip. i traveled 6 hours in the car stopping twice for rest stop breaks. about 4 hours into the trip i began experiencing dizziness and nausea. these symptoms continued for approximately three hours after arriving at my destination. the vehicle was driven on the highway with heat on and being recirculated through the entire drive. i saw a news article reguarding the concerns over ford explorers carbon monoxide concerns and thought i might have experienced it. i never get sick or experience motion sickness.
When driving the 2016 ford explorer limited, having the vehicle in circulation mode, and going above 4000 rpms, carbon monoxide is entering my vehicle. i have purchased an co meter that reads a little as 9ppm. it easily gets up over 15ppm and smells terrible. like rotten eggs. i must roll down the windows and wait in order for the gas to dissipate. it's very dangerous. it happens while in motion, stationary doesn't seem to cause any leaks. i don't have pictures but will take some immediately in case there needed.
Takata recall was driving slowly making turn and suddenly could not move steering wheel but vehicle was still moving a bit .. could not stop it ... could not go forward ... no backward ....thanks god that was in the alley with no people otherwise somebody would get hit... just cars around but i did not hit any ...thanks god ...horible experience ...
Vehicle steering became stiff while driving in a parking lot, with multiple errors. cannot drive vehicle safely. happened without warning. -hill start assist not available -service advancetrac -terrain management system fault
The rear windshield shattered without any object coming into contact with it.
Started the car and noticed a strong oil burning smell and a rattle when i drove it found out it the transfer case was broken. out of warranty by 3k miles dealer says this is a frequent issue with explorers gonna cost about $2000 to fix. just bough the car in october.
I was driving down the highway (rt. 84) in pa and all of a sudden i heard a really loud "pop" noise. i though that i blew a tire but my gauges were all fine. then i started to hear the wind as if a window broke. i arrived at my destination to find out that my sunroof had exploded. if the inside screen wasn't shut (its normally open) i would have been completely covered in glass! the following day i took the car back to the dealership (where i bought it & all servicing is done). i was not pleased with the lack of service that i received. the service man tried to tell me that a rock must have hit it and it is also not covered under the warranty. so i had to submit an insurance claim, wait for a call from the adjuster, make an appointment with the adjuster, have the parts ordered and wait for it to be complete.
I own a 2016 ford explorer with 35,611 miles. on 01/01/2019, my wife arrived home in the explorer and i get in the car. immediately i notice it reeks of rotten egg/sulphur. the smell was making me feel nauseous and light headed. my wife explains that smell has been occurring for about a week and a half, and she chalked it up to being pregnant and having a sensitive sense of smell. she stated that she had been getting headaches frequently and nausea as well. i observe the smell is coming through the air circulation system and that it is stronger in the rear of the vehicle. i then shut the entire climate control off-no air circulation at all, and the smell is still coming in the vehicle. not as intensely, but still noticeable. and this is while driving or parked. after this i completed research on the topic and find this is a pretty common problem with 2011-2017 explorers and that people have been getting co2 poisoning from this defect. this happens when the vehicle is in motion or in park, air on or off. there is a heavier sulfur smell when the vehicle is in motion. ford has known about this problem for years and i am frustrated there has not been a safety recall. i called the ford dealer i bought the explorer from, and they told me that the 17-n03 repair had already been completed in february 2018. clearly the 17-n03 repair has not been working for me or other folks. ford has put another tsb out that is apparently more thorough. my ford is currently in the shop getting the newest ford tsb repair for the exhaust/c02 issue. my trust is lost in ford and feel that they are putting their profit ahead of being ethical. i am confident that no consumer with prior knowledge of this defect would want to purchase these ford explorers. we also found out that we bought the vehicle from a local ford dealer without being told there was an outstanding tsb regarding this issue. thanks
When sitting in park and placing my foot on the break to place the car in reverse, it does not want to go into gear and there is a delay. then the car jolts aggressively into reverse. the longer i sit with my foot on the break before engaging out of park into reverse, the longer the delay into gear and the stronger the jolt.
Carbon monoxide inside the cabin
I have had the exhaust recall repair but still i smell the rotten egg smell inside my car. i have made sure to test quick acceleration with and without air recirculating. it's the same result. my 'repair' is not safe or satisfactory.
For the last 5 days there has been a strong exsaust smell in the cabin bad enough you have to roll the windows down and get a headache ! you smell it driving and a string smell when you are sitting and turn the car off
Vehicle was "repaired' to prevent smell of exhaust fumes, which are causing headaches and feeling light headed, but the issue is still persistent. it occurs about 10 seconds after accelerating the vehicle. this is a huge hazard as whomever is driving the car can potentially pass out from the fumes and cause a major accident resulting in deaths and injuries. ford has to find a solution to this problem affecting many owners.
I bought this car used with about 19,000 miles on it in february, 2018. shortly after buying it i noticed the smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin at times, sometimes while at idle, other times while driving. i took it back to the dealer on may 11, 2018 for service of several issues including this one. they performed the work of a recall (#17n03). i've continued to notice exhaust smells in the cabin from time to time both when idling and when driving, and so purchased a carbon monoxide detector for cars. at times it alarms indicating there is co in the cabin. i took the vehicle to another dealer on november 6, 2018 where they inspected the vehicle, the exhaust system and verified that the other dealer indeed performed the recall and it was done properly. i was told there is nothing more than can be done to resolve this issue.
We are noticing very bad exhaust leakage into the cabin. my wife started complaining of headaches after driving. i drove it 60 miles and was dizzy and nauseous and had a head ache. drove with some family friends one is a mechanic and he said there is definetly a problem as well and they were feeling sick after about 20 minutes of driving. this is a very common problem with explorers after doing some quick research and i'm very disturbed this has not been addressed with a recall. right now it's useless sitting in the garage as we are getting headaches just on short trips thru town.
The location of the controls for the third row seats is a problem. when the seats are down, the buttons face the interior of the car and can be bumped by cargo. once the seats start to move, there is no way to stop them. third, the last time we put the third row down, they would not return to the seat position when we pushed the button. i looked through the car guide for a manual override, but the strap that is on some car seats, is not on the 3rd row seats. the vehicle has been in park, and the engine off, when this happened, and when we tried to remedy the problem. bosch ford in temecula had no suggestions about what the problem could be, or any price ranges for possible repairs.
Carbon monoxide poisioning. level was 7.2 when i went to er.
Yes exhaust is still coming out after repair in car and carbon monoxide alarm went off in car yeaterday
I have 25,000 miles on these tires and they are peeling apart. at 20,000 i noticed it and took to dealership. they made excuses and said i ran something over. there are other recalls on similar tires. they are literally peeking apart. this vehicle is only 2 1/2 years new.
Carbon monoxide release into car remains even after dealer repair
Our vehicle has 13451 miles. the factory tires hankook 255/50r20 105h ventus s1 noble 2 are scaling on all four tires to a degree.
When car does a hard acceleration an odd smell is projected through the vehicle and smells like gas fumes. when car gradually accelerates this issue does not happen.
Strong exhaust and very high levels of co entering cabin at normal acceleration, very bad at hard acceleration i have multiple pictures of my co sensor i had in the vehicle for some time now with lethal co levels. i believe the exhaust manifolds have big enough cracks to flood in co into the cabin through openings. mine has had the 'dealer itsb' to resolve, no change and it registered higher after. replace this manifold and seal this truck or buy it back from me ford. if putting my family's life in danger daily doesn't scare you, the pictures and proof i have are enough for another lawsuit against you for this! i need to be contacted by a ford rep (not a dealership) to resolve or my lawyers will follow up with you. I have been getting very sick for over the past year and recently realized it is when i go anywhere. nausea, chills, headache, confusion, weakness, dizziness.i have a 23 month old daughter in the car with me who would be affected by this also. i had no idea that it could be the car making us sick until we looked it up online and saw there was a carbon monoxide issue with this car. my husband took it for a short drive and measured the carbon monoxide levels. he took a picture i will include. i'm scared about the long term damage this could potentially have caused our health. this happens when we drive the car.
Oem hankook tires tires have begun disintegrating around 20k miles
Rotten egg smell when vehicle is accelerating up incline and air unit is on recirculate. had in ford dealership before to address problem but obviously still not fixed. do your job and quit trying to protect ford there needs to be a recall and you know it. my wife and kids use this car and they are more important than ford saving a dollar.
