Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. the contact stated that upon startup, the engine rumbled and vibrated with the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact also stated that at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle stalled while depressing the accelerator pedal. the tail pipe also emitted an excessive amount of smoke while the vehicle was being driven. the vehicle was taken to three independent mechanics to be diagnosed. the contact was informed of an head gasket leak, a nd also that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

While i was driving on the highway going no more 70mph, when the engine started to make a whining noise and the truck started bucking. then the truck stopped abruptly as if someone hit the brake then a loud pop noise. once we pulled to the shoulder, smoke came through the vent and from under the hood. within 15 second fire sparks was shooting from the bottom of the truck then by the next 10 second fire started shooting from under the hood. the entire front of the truck was engulfed. no warning, no check engine light, nothing. i have always had my regular maintenance done. last one done 10/2019. now i'm out of a vehicle with no warning from ford. i've only had this truck 9 months which i purchased with an extended warranty in march 2019.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle, jerked, lost power, and came to a complete stop. the failures occurred without warning. the contact noticed an odor coming from the rear of the vehicle. the contact attempted to depress the accelerator pedal, but it failed to engage. a bystander helped the contact push the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. the vehicle was towed to byerly ford (4041 dixie hwy, louisville, ky 40216, (502) 448-1661) where it was diagnosed that the turbo failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact was informed to call nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

The vehicle began to overheat when driving at an incline. as soon as the vehicle was level there were no overheating issues. i took the vehicle to the dealership and was advised that the vehicle was overheating due to the grill shutters being stuck closed and as a result the transmission was failing and needed a partial rebuild. the vehicle was still eligible for certain repairs under the warranty, mileage 58,120, so ford covered the partial transmission rebuild as they determined was fit. the grill shutters malfunctioning and being stuck closed were not covered under warranty but the malfunction was a major contributing factor to the transmission failure and overheating of the vehicle. repairs were completed in may 2019. in november 2019 and approx. 2k miles out of warranty and just slightly 2k more miles since the transmission rebuild and grill shutter replacement, the vehicle began to overheat again. the overheating would occur consistently when sitting idle or in motion on streets and on highways. the vehicle was taken to the ford dealership again for diagnosis. it was determined that the head gasket was blown which was causing the vehicle to overheat. ford advised that due to the grill shutters being stuck closed that ultimately was the cause of the damage to the engine and the head gasket being blown. the malfunctioning grill shutters are a major issue that should be fixed on fords behalf so that additional engine damage doesn't occur. ford is now not covering the head gasket being blown/overall engine damage even though this was ultimately caused by the malfunctioning grill shutters. the vehicle is not drivable without overheating and the overheating could cause a fire which could be extremely dangerous and in some cases, fatal.

Ford exploer 2016 at low speed excelarator stick and engine reves up transmission in drive. must put transmission in nutral to stop auto from moving fwd. happened 3 times seperate days. had to put transmission in nutural to get auto under control.

My 2016 ford explorer sport during acceleration smells bad from exhaust fumes that entering the car. took the car to the dealership and all the repairs that were done are not helpful contact ford motor company which didn't help either. at this point dont know what to do.

About two months ago my car started shuttering and was very jumpy. i took it into the dealership and they had to rebuild the entire transmission. two weeks after that, while driving on the highway, my a/c stoping blowing out cold air and was only blowing out hot air. took it back to the dealership and the said the air compressor seized, and they hadd to replace that along with all the lines that goes to it. two weeks after that,, i started to notice my car would shudder when in reverse. took it into the dealership, and they told me 'internal engine failure'. when i read the diagnostic report (because the service rep wouldn't explain it to me)...it stated that there was coolant found in one of the cylinders in the engine....meaning my coolant was leaking into the engine. if i continue to drive it, my vehicle will overheat.

The factory battery ruptured and spewed battery acid in engine compartment.

As i was driving my 2016 ford explorer on the highway on 08/01/2019 i experienced the vehicle start to stutter just before i was going on to the on ramp merging on the highway and after i was on the high way the vehicle started smoking from under the hood and would no longer accelerate and i could smell oil burning and pulled over and shut the car off looked under the car and saw the pile of oil underneath but the vehicle did not have the any check engine light or warnings once we towed the vehicle home i looked under the car and saw that the transmission casing was cracked pretty much in half i could actually see the gears inside the casing of the transmission i also rememberd in the past year or so the vehicle would shift very hard after braking and then getting back on the gas it happened every once in a while .

With no warning - experienced sudden loss of power while driving. engine light came on. also the wrench light came on with a message that said "see manual." i was able to get out of traffice and pull over. after ten minutes, i restarted the car. the car started back up with no problem and the engine light was back off. from there it drove beautifully like it never happened - except that it did ! four days later, i take it to the dealorship. they determined that this happened due to a defective throttle body. i have to have it replaced and it's going to cost me $380. i find it hard to believe that with the significant number of complaints on this issue all over the internet that they didn't know about this at the dealorship when they sold me the car. and also that ford has not recalled this yet considering the number of complaints. i have to have this fixed, i have no choice. i would definitly like to reumbersed for this repair. but in addition to the out of pocket cost, the power going out on the car while driving is a major safety issue. with the significant number of complaints on this issue with this specific vehicle model / year , i hope that somebody doesn't have to die before they place a recall on this issue.

2016 ford explorer - the backup camera will come on while traveling down the highway at 55-60 mph. will cause it to loose power, the rpm's drop right below 1000, the wrench symbol comes on, and it will barely move down the road. a screen will pop up on occasion saying hill assist is unavailable. you have to pullover, turn the car off, open the driver door to make sure the radio and all goes off, wait exactly one minute, and then you are able to crank the vehicle up to be able to move. i have taken to dealership, and all they say is it's a sensor inside the transmission, and all they can do is clear the code out. they say that it is saying my vehicle is trying to engage in reverse while going down the road. this sounds like a huge safety issue especially when i have had others say the same thing has happened to them as well. i have reached out to the dealership in regards to my warranty, but i have yet to hear back from them, and it has been over 2 weeks. i have also reached out to the sales representative several times, and i have yet to hear from him. i contacted them because while looking at the paperwork it said it had a limited power train warranty, but it was purchased as a pre-certified used vehicle with an unlimited power train warranty they were offering for vehicles with lest than 80,000 miles. i have not had it a year yet. i have an email from the sales rep himself stating that it is unlimited. it was purchase in september of 2018.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. the contact took the vehicle to herring ford (820 memorial blvd, picayune, ms 39466, (601) 798-8682) for an unknown recall repair regarding the rubber gasket on the rear of the vehicle. the contact also detected a carbon monoxide odor inside the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. the contact smelled exhaust fumes inside the vehicle. the odor was a distraction and hazard to the contact and his children. the contact called rusty wallace ford (134 sharon dr, dandridge, tn 37725, (423) 623-6138) and was informed that the manufacturer would not allow them to service this kind of failure any more. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to speak with the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 30,250.

June 4th 2019 throttle body failed on 2016 ford explorer sport with v6 ecoboost engine at 59k mile. vehicle has bucking and had no acceleration when attempting to merge into traffic. vehicle had to be towed to dealer. spoke to ford corporate they would not cover repair even though this is a common issue that service advisors at ford have told me.

I was driving along at about 55 mph with the cruise control activated. the pedals were not in the right locations so i decided to adjust them to a higher position with the button on the side of the steering column. when i did the adjustment, the engine went into a full throttle mode and would not let up. i pushed down on the brakes hard and vehicle slowed down and the engine returned to normal. when i took my foot off the brake the engine immediately went full throttle again and then back down again when i pushed the brake pedal down hard. this cycle continued even though i shut off the cruise control and tried putting the shifter in neutral. i was final able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the engine off. i restarted the engine after a few minutes and everything seemed to work normally. this was a very dangerous and scary event. i am afraid to drive this vehicle or have my wife drive it. i reported it to ford but have not heard back from them at this time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. while driving approximately 75 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the vehicle went into limp mode. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved diagnostic trouble code: p2111 (throttle actuator control system stuck open). the vehicle was not repaired. autonation ford marietta (located at 869 cobb pkwy se, marietta, ga 30060, (770) 674-6077) was infomred of the failure via phone. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. the contact took the vehicle to star dodge chrysler jeep ram (5101 s 1st st, abilene, tx 79605, (325) 698-2222) to have the vla emission computer update completed. after a few days, the vehicle began to exhibit a delayed response when the accelerator pedal was depressed. in addition, the vehicle downshifted on its own suddenly, especially while driving uphill. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was affected by the vla emission update. after the update, the vehicle tended to overheat and the fuel gauge did not accurately display the correct reading. the vehicle was taken to star dodge a third time where it was diagnosed that the egr was throwing coolant into the turbo. the contact reached out to the manufacturer and was proivdecase number: 407224. the dealer stated that the case would be closed because they could not remedy the failure. prior to updating the vla, the contact was informed by the eco system hotline that the vehicle would not be affected. the failure mileage was 51,000.

April 23, 2019 ford explorer sport ecoboost engine timing cover oil leak at 56823 miles. ford service advisor stated this is a common issue with the ecoboost engine.

Required a new transmission. reported initial problem at 58,000 miles the dealer could not find a problem while car was still under warranty. car was experiencing a hesitation during acceleration. at 80,000 miles the transmission had to be replace (out of warranty). require new battery and cables after batter "exploded" corroding the battery cables. (68,000 miles). required a new water pump at 86,000 miles.

End of march 2019 after driving home from work on a friday evening the car smelled like exhaust fumes (rotten eggs) when i parked the car in the garage. i called dealer and made an appointment to take the car in. over the weekend both inside and outside the car the smell was terrible. took car to ford dealer for repair. they suggested i needed a new battery (9 months old battery - was told battery causing smell). picked up car and drove home. once again upon parking car still smelled like exhaust. car was returned to dealer. dealer replaced pcv valve. picked up car - drove home - car still smells like exhaust fumes. car has gone into dealer 4 times for same problem. can no longer park car inside of garage at home due to exhaust smell and potential safety issues. dealer says they have done everything pursuant to ford's instruction and their hands are tied. dealer admits the car smells of exhaust fumes outside of car. inside the car i am keeping the recycled air on to try to prevent the exhaust from coming in the car. car needs to be fixed by ford as the exhaust smell is a safety hazard and should not be happening to a 3 yr. old car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. the contact stated that fumes were coming through the heater vents. the fumes caused the contact to become ill, but did not require medical attention. the contact had to drive with the windows rolled down in the cold temperatures because of the abnormal fumes coming through the vents. the contact planned to take the vehicle to larry h. miller ford lakewood (11595 6th ave, lakewood, co 80215) for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 35,600. the vin was invalid.

Takata recall was driving slowly making turn and suddenly could not move steering wheel but vehicle was still moving a bit .. could not stop it ... could not go forward ... no backward ....thanks god that was in the alley with no people otherwise somebody would get hit... just cars around but i did not hit any ...thanks god ...horible experience ...

The vacuum tube assembly/ hoses corroded to the point the braking system was compromised. the dealership's assessment states that battery acid spilled onto the hose and the acid ate though it. when i visually inspected the hose, the only part of the hose that was corroded where both ends where it connects to the manifold and other end. i find it very odd that batter acid will only spill on 2 opposite ends of a hose, which happens to be where the connections are. the battery was replaced after the original battery's core exploded.

9/29/18: remote start stopped working and car sputtered when starting. 10/14/18: after manually starting with push-button, white smoke filled my garage and car with 3 children. explorer towed to brandon ford dealership that day which happened to be a sunday. as of today, i still don't have my explorer back. i was informed that fluid got into the cylinder and the cylinder needs to be replaced. unfortunately there is a backlog on this particular part. as i approach the 5th week with this loaner vehicle, i am wondering if there is more to the problem or if there is anything that anyone can do to help me get resolution.

During acceleration, a brief pause in acceleration or down shifting of gears. feels like the transmission is slipping. usually noticed during 30 minutes of normal driving conditions.

I was driving on the nys thruway around 70-75mph and the car decelerated to 55mph then was like in a coast mode. the wrench light came on and it said see manual. i pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and it would not go any faster. i was able to coast to the side of the road. i turned car off and then turned it back on and pushed ok to the see manual. i was then able to drive it. we could of been killed if someone was behind me. i brought in to dealer and said they really didn't find anything wrong or see any info on the computer when car was hooked up. very scary as i have read online more people have had this happen to them.

Carbon monoxide release into car remains even after dealer repair

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and lost power. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to steve rogers ford (located at 9760 oh-64, waterville, oh 43566, (419) 878-8151) to be diagnosed. the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent and primarily occurred during hot, humid weather with the air conditioning activated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 72,400.

Since the vehicle has reached 40,000 miles we have noticed hard shifting when accelerating. when putting the vehicle in reverse there is a sound like the engine may fall out of the car.

Strong exhaust and very high levels of co entering cabin at normal acceleration, very bad at hard acceleration i have multiple pictures of my co sensor i had in the vehicle for some time now with lethal co levels. i believe the exhaust manifolds have big enough cracks to flood in co into the cabin through openings. mine has had the 'dealer itsb' to resolve, no change and it registered higher after. replace this manifold and seal this truck or buy it back from me ford. if putting my family's life in danger daily doesn't scare you, the pictures and proof i have are enough for another lawsuit against you for this! i need to be contacted by a ford rep (not a dealership) to resolve or my lawyers will follow up with you. A strong exhaust smell enters the car regularly when the car is in motion. this is especially strong when accelerating (even lightly) or going up a hill.

Carbon moxnoxide and odor from the exhaust coming into the cabin car causing headache and dizziness while driving. increased odor with speed and a/c on.

I bought my ford explorer 2 years ago brand new and everys since i bought it i have had headaches. dizziness while driving and electrical problems with it. my husband has also been treated for headaches and we believe it is from our ford, we don't have these issues until we are in the car for long periods of time. the dashboard goes blank a lot and it loses power.

We purchased our vehicle in may of 2017, and noticed weird smells. took it on a road trip and noticed them again in july. after the late july 2017 news release of co in ford explorers, we used co monitors and in fact, had co readings. it has been to the dealer approx 10 time and had the tsb service performed, but the problem still exists. i've had 3 different cases open with ford, and during the last case, they denied my "buyback" request. please help. photo attached and videos can be mailed in that show co levels and then show co levels going to zero when we roll down the window. we have had co problems for over a year now. please help because ford won't.

Strong exhaust smell leaking into the cabin.

I have noticed theres a burning smelling from heater/ac vents right after acceleration from vehicle being stopped. i can confirm its a burning smell (similar to burning plastic or rubber). when the smell is present, it feels like theres lack of acceleration from the gas pedal. almost like if theres a clogged air filter or issue with transmission or exhaust. it feels like that kind of poor acceleration issue. the burning smells last for about 1-2 minutes and i'm not sure where its coming from. the odor is a very strong odor and i'm waiting for a fire to break out somewhere when this odor is present. i have a service appt on monday, feb 26 and hopefully something will be found. the last thing i want is to be driving and the vehicle breaks down, let alone catches fire for some reason.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. while driving various speeds, the contact felt very tired, weak, dizzy, and sleepy. since the contact was suffering from a cold at the time, she could not determine if there was an odor in the vehicle. the contact was able to drive back home. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 36,315.

Under acceleration there are instances of what seem to be exhaust fumes being present in the cabin of our explorer. this has led to headaches for myself, my wife and our 7 year old son.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. the contact stated that the exhaust unit caused fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle. while driving 65 mph, the carbon monoxide unit installed in the vehicle alerted the contact of the fumes. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (stivers ford lincoln, 1450 e. hickman rd, waukee, ia 50263), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Suddenly have an influx of exhaust fumes in cabin area while the vehicle is running but especially while idling. appears to enter from air conditioner and there is a strong odor under the hood.

From the day i took delivery of my 2016 ford explorer sport, there was a prominent smell in the cabin that appeared under moderate acceleration. i initially believed it to be caused by the "breaking in" of a new engine. however, the problem persisted. passengers would continually ask me about the awful "rotten egg" smell in my explorer. i was getting headaches and feeling nauseous at times while driving my explorer. after researching the issue on the internet, i found countless reports of others having the same experience with their explorers. i took my vehicle to auto nation ford in scottsdale, az and the service advisor told me they've had several folks with the same issue and that ford had issued a service bulletin on how to resolve the problem. i was told that there was a design flaw leading to the exhaust fumes re-entering the vehicle through the ventilation system. the advisor indicated they would need the car for at least a week to re-seal the system to minimize the problem. after having my vehicle for several weeks, i received it back and the issue was not resolved. i returned the car to ford and they arranged for me to have loaner explorer while they worked on mine. it had the same exact issue. my explorer was at the dealer for well over a month and i was told that they were waiting for ford to engineer and manufacture the parts needed to fully resolve the exhaust leaks. after finally getting the car back, the issue initially seemed to improve, but quickly returned. the dealer has stated they have done all they can and that no other fix exists. this is completely unacceptable and unsafe. i have a wife and 3 children and i do not feel comfortable driving with them in the vehicle beyond very short trips. we've even gone so far as to rent vehicles for family road trips due to the issues with our explorer.

Very strong exhaust fumes entering vehicle at or above 3500 rpm. it happens every time accelerating to highway speed. entire cab fills with fumes immediately and does not disapate until all windows are rolled down. experienced headaches, dizziness and nausea. owner had to trade vehicle (at their expense) as defect was causing daily health problems. ford needs to be forced to notify consumers about this problem before vehicle is purchased. owner had 2015 ford explorer with same problem and won lemon law case against ford - lemon law arbitrators smelled what they described as exhaust fumes during lemon law hearing test drive. ford repair attempts do not work! nhtsa and ford need to determine fix or recall vehicles. exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide as well as many other toxic chemicals. ford admits exhaust fumes entering vehicle but claims low volume/safe. please consider that infants and young children cannot be exposed to same carbon monoxide levels as adults without very serious and life threatening harm. ask a doctor, not ford!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. while driving various speeds, there was an abnormal exhaust odor in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to rockwall ford (990 i-30, rockwall, tx 75087, (972) 290-2200) where it was diagnosed that there were exhaust fumes from the engine that entered the vehicle. the contact was informed that there was a warranty repair provided by the manufacturer. the vehicle was repaired; however, while test driving the vehicle, the contact became ill from the exhaust fumes. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Began feeling very sick on friday january 5th, car had bad exhaust smell. headache, dizziness, nausea, this continued over the weekend so much so that i did not drive anywhere sunday from 1:00 on or at all on monday. woke up tuesday feeling ok and drove my car to work, while driving the 4 miles on the fwy to get there my car started smoking profusely from the exhaust pipe. i immediately took it to ford, it is still there. they are refusing to pay for repairs, they say turbo engine and engine need repair/replacement. could this have to do with the exhaust issues i see people keep having? never once did the check engine light come on since i've owned the vehicle (2 yrs, 2 months) could there really be that much wrong with the car without even a hint there was an issue and no check engine light?

When you drives slowly in between 15mph to 20mph 2nd to 3rd gear shifting it gaves tugg when it was in warrenty i bring to ford delarship but they said everything is ok never recommend ford it was my 1st experience with ford but all crap cars and suvs

2016 ford explorer accelerates while driving. my vehicle has been in and out of dealership since 12/26/17. i am currently in a loaner vehicle. receive update first week of feb 2018 that the transmission dept was behind and that they will let me know as soon as possible if i need a new transmission.

I have read many complaints about exhaust entering this vehicle while driving. ford's remedy is not correcting the defect. some people have taken their vehicles to the dealer up to 7 times and the problem still exists. some people have passed out from the fumes and crashed their vehicles. how many complaints do you need to receive to issue a safety recall? do you even read these complaints. i called your hot line this morning and no one could give me any information about the problem after waiting on hold for 25 minutes. your website only shows complaints and no updates about your investigation of the issue. i called ford twice and got the run around. i called my dealer twice with no satisfaction. how many people need to get sick or die before you take action. my vehicle is over 2 years old and only has 2800 miles on it but it has issues with exhaust entering the vehicle. i read that ford will reprogram the climate control module to let more fresh air in from outside but that will not fix the problem because there is no fresh air when you are driving in traffic and drawing in exhaust from all the cars in front of you. i will fix the problem myself or wait until you or ford knows the real cause of the problem and decides to fix it instead of trying to pacify the owners.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford explorer. while driving various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal for extended periods of time, a foul odor was present inside the vehicle. the contact indicated that the failure mainly occurred while ascending up a hill or driving on the highway. the vehicle was taken to dana ford (266 w. service rd, staten island, ny), but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,900.
