Exhaust odor smell in vehicle is worse under heavy excelleration happens every time

My car has 64000 miles on it and was purchased in january 2014. the transfer case has failed and caused massive amounts of fluid to leak from the vehicle. the fluid could be seen on my driveway and my carport floor, and it was an $1850 fix at the mechanic. there was, according to the dealer, a recall for a similar issue with certified pre-owned ford explorers, and they said the transfer case was cracked, along with the valve. additionally, there is an odor of propane or similar coming from the exhaust vents inside the vehicle. it's worse when it's on air conditioning, to the point where i actually have to put the windows down.

Under acceleration i get an exhaust smell in the cabin. it happens when passing, getting up to speed from a dead stop. it does it no matter if the engine is cold, warm or hot . the dealer has replaced the exhaust, added 6 sensors for the a/c resuscitation & sealed up the body at the rear end. the dealer has talked to fords techs & i still have the smell. i have pulmonary fibrosis & my lungs can't be exposed to this. please help.

Has a strong exhaust smell during acceleration. i just purchased this vehicle used from a ford dealer. it is a weekend as i write this and i will notify the dealer as well.

Car fills with fumes and strong "sulfur" order when excelling on on upgrade climb.

I have experience exhaust coming into the cabin of both ford explorers i've owned( 2012 and 2014). the exhaust enters the cabin section through the air condition vents. when passing another vehicle and or when the passing gear is engaged and returning to normal speed the exhaust enters the cabin. i complained to the dealership back on 2012 and nothing was said or done. when normal driving occurs i don't experience the leak. when i experience the exhaust leak i let all windows down to air out the cabin.

Faulty door ajar assembly. does not recognize when the door is closed. also loses connection while car is off and the door is closed, triggers the alarm to go off. apparently this is happening on several models and years.

When i use my air cond or vents i get a smell coming into the suv. if i place the recirculate on, i do not get the smell. i have changed the inside filter and it has not helped.

I have owned a 2014 ford explorer for a year now. when i purchased it, it had 40,000 miles on it so, out of the manufacturers warranty period. now, every time i get on the interstate or try to pass a slower moving vehicle. there is a strong smell of exhaust that enters the cabin of the suv which results in me getting a headache and my son complaining of his nose burning. i scheduled and took the car in the mullinax ford here in mobile, al where they charged me 99.00 to run test on the vehicle to see if carbon monoxide was entering the cabin and the test came back positive. now they want to charge me $553.00, which they call a discount, to fix the problem. i called ford customer service and was told they created a case and sent it to the service manager. this was only to get a decision from the manager that i still had to pay $553.00. this is a manufacturing defect, and they want me to pay for it. this vehicle is poisoning my family (3 kids) and they won't fix the problem. i was told that they were only repairing police cars as of now.

There have been regular instances while driving this vehicle of unexplainable drowsiness, headaches, confusion, and impairment. while learning of the latest news of possible dangerous fumes being alleged in the passenger cabin, i wanted to report this incident in my personal vehicle. i have become seriously more concerned as i am now traveling with an infant in the vehicle with me, and recognizing that i was subject to these conditions throughout a full pregnancy. i purchased this vehicle new and have been the primary driver since owning it. i have not had any modifications done to this vehicle and have had all service work completed at the dealership where purchased. although i don't travel often by car, there have been trips that i have taken that were approximately 300 miles in length that would require a stop for rest and / or sleep. this is not a usual characteristic of my driving style. there is no noticeable odor in the vehicle's passenger compartment. there are no noticeable driving conditions that make this issue better or worse.

Carbon monoxide was detected inside the vehicle passenger compartment as well as fumes/ exhaust odor.

When accellerating cabin smells the exhaust. also when fan is on and the vent is open recently started to smell propane gas inside the car. making us, my wife, kids 13 and 17 years old to feel nauseous, dizziness and headache. feeling like throwing up. it started a few days after we purchased the suv on mid august 2017. we also had the same truck we bought in 2014 explorer base model , but it only has the exhaust fume smell not as bad as the new one we have 2014 explorer xlt propane smell is very bad..

The smell of exhaust fumes enter the passenger compartment especially on full acceleration. seems to be under any condition of the cabin as far as window open partially, closed windows with vent on, ac on with or without the recirculation being used. mostly annoying and it does seem to dissipate after a few minutes, will occur from starting at full stop or use such as full throttle for passing at any speed. do not seem to notice a smell when running in town or on freeway. rarely sit with engine running and have not noticed the exhaust smell thus far.

Frequent smell of exhaust in the cabin - sometimes when stationary/idling and sometimes after hard acceleration.

I started to drive the car for work and the exaust fumes in the cabin area has started to make me sick.

When accelerating, a strong odor comes from the air vents. the odor lingers and smells very strong, i believe this may be exhaust fumes, as it only happens during acceleration.

When accelerating quickly or going up hill, which causes a higher rpm, a horrible smell comes in the car. it smells like a cross between rotten eggs and burnt hair. after reading other's reports, it could be the exhaust being sucked into the car. it seems to be worse when the rear air is on. this has been happening since we purchased the vehicle new. the dealership does not acknowledge that there is a problem. the date entered below is the most recent occurence. i always roll the windows down to air out the exhaust/smell.

Sickness in cabin after driving. co poisoning symptoms- headache, nausea, vomiting

Reported exhaust fumes in cabin under various conditions february 2017. went to local ford dealer and had 'repairs' made to correct the problem at that time at a cost of nearly $600. unfortunately, the problem still exists and it appears to be a similar issue to that being reported in police equiped vehicles..

Nausea, headache. problems may be related to carbon monoxide issue's with vehicle's on-going investigation.

The dealer had to replace the cracked exhaust, manifold/caralytic converter asmy. i was told that if this was not corrected fumes could get into the car. this is the same problem ford is having with the police explorers. i have heard that ford is paying to have these repair. i wrote to ford and they told me that they would not pay for this. ford states "ther are no warranties in effect that would provide assistance for your concern" (marsha boyd).. why are the police vehicles being repair?

While driving intermittent carbon monoxide / exhaust in cabin. highway and city driving. it has happened several time in the past 3 years. smelled like my air conditioner was sucking up exhaust from the vehicle in front of me. but sometimes no vehicles were near.

I get very nauseous and head aches when driving my vehicle. some times blurred vision and a feeling of slowed reaction. i have had an instance where i blacked out while driving for a few seconds, to be awakened when my vehicle ran across gravels before entering a yard. i had just gotten off the interstate where i was doing around 70 mph and about 1/2 mile after the top of the off ramp i blacked out. no injuries were reported, i came to in time to pull the wheel to avoid an accident but was perfectly fine right before i blacked out. i wasn't tired before this. when i drive our 2017 ford f-350 i do not have these symptoms. they seem to go away. or if i ride in my explorer with the windows open i seem to feel better. after my ride home from work if i run the air and have my windows up i am so tired by the time i get home that i can't do anything besides lay on the couch and sleep. which is not me- i have no health issues and am very active if i do not drive this vehicle.

When accelerating when trying to pass, or just speeding up, car is taken over with a rotten egg smell, was told it was a carbon monoxide leak!!

Carbon minoxide entering the cabin. exhaust fumes are entering the cabin.

My 2014 ford explorer has not been motified and has had strong exhaust inside the car confirmed by a ford dealer for the second time since june. the first repair made by ford to "plug" the problem made it worse. they are not testing for leaks or carbon monoxide. the are referencing this as an odor. given the risks how can it be ruled out if they are not testing for them? i am deeply concerned that ford's priority is to protect itself at the cost of our family and the people on the road. my vehicle has been doing this for sometime even while sitting in the driveway cooling down prior to any motion. i do believe we have directly been sickened by this and am installing a detector into our car and will be having blood work anytime it goes off. i have also contacted my doctor to see if there is anything on our labs to confirm the concerns. we were not made aware of the concern by ford or the fact they were aware of this since 2012. i have also had the back-up came reverse and everything located in the left of the car appeared on the right. this was confirmed in june and the camera was replaced. the obvious safety with this situation was not made public or investigated to my knowledge.

I purchased my used 2014 explorer a few days ago. i drove it from gainsville ga to my home in florida and had a headache upon arrival at my home. when i drive more than a few minutes of driving my car i get headaches. i can smell exhaust in it certain times. i will be taking it to the dealership to have it checked out.

A heavy propane smell happens in my car when i have the max ac and rec air on.. i just got thie car 5 months ago.. i called ford they said "sorry " this is not a recall .. and we have never heard of this issue even when i researched and it is a issue.. they tole me it would cost me to have them look at it and cost for any parts needed..

First long trip in my suv. most of my driving is city driving to and from work. while traveling with the family on our vacation, we all noticed after acceleration (passing cars or up inclines) the car smelled like sulfur or a waste treatment plant (other clever words used by my daughters). this was all highway (two lane up to four lane) travel. approximately 600 miles each way. with the frequency of the problem on this trip, i realized i've smelled it before but just assumed i was driving past a sewage problem or treatment facility. i never thought about an issue with my car that would cause a smell like that. upon googling what might cause the problem, i found a lot of info on the issue, including a ford service bulletin (attached), lawsuits and your organization's investigation of the issue. based on what i read, i felt i should let you know i have the same issue. i've contacted the local ford dealership from whom i bought the car and who services the car and they eventually found a bulletin that covers the issue but because my car is recently out of warranty, said i need to pay for the investigation and possible fix(es). i am not happy about that either and am now concerned whether there is actually a fix. given the knowledge ford has about this issue, i would expect ford to fix this at their cost . . . assuming there is a fix. i'm going to follow this with a call to ford motor company's customer service department to make them aware.

On 7 and 14 july i experienced a sulfur odor in my cabin and felt light headed. ford has still not fixed this issue after at least 6 complaints. sulfur odor says it is an exhaust leak prior to the catalytic converter, getting into the passenger cabin. please help before it kills me!

Exhaust odor under acceleration, regularly

The ford explorer 2014 has a defect in which the "terrain management " signal/message would randomly appear and practically immobilize the car. once the signal was present, the vehicle would slow down to a 5-10 mph mode. it would eventually reset itself after 24 hours or so. this is very dangerous due to the fact that if this were to take place in the middle of a very busy intersection or a highway, an accident would certainly ensue. i experienced this malfunction twice; once in february of 2017 and then again on july 3, 2017. in both instances, i was in motion. thankfully, i was not too far from my residence and that i was able to quickly turn on my hazard lights so that others in traffic would be able to avoid hitting me because of the sudden decline in speed.

Very bad exhaust smell in the cab of 2014 ford explorer xlt during acceleration.

Had bad smell in explorer while driving to vacation destination. had not noticed this previously but since then have noticed it several times. i need to drive with windows open or cannot stand the smell. this happens mostly on driving highways

This car was purchased new by me in 2014. in (roughly) early 2017, my wife--the primary driver--complained about exhaust odor inside the car, especially at idle. in may she took it to the dealership we purchased it from and they explained the nature of the problem and that ford had not yet committed to doing anything about it. they also confirmed they noticed the smell as well. we elected to get the prescribed repair done fearing for the safety of our family. that work, done in june, cost $594.31.

Basically i am having issues with the exhaust. at different times i have a strong exhaust smell in the vehicle i went to the dealer and they programmed it to blow outside air but i can still smell the fumes

I have had problems for three years with carbon monoxide fumes in the cabin of the car every time you excellerate. it causes headaches and nausea. they have made attempts in may of this year to fix the problem, but they could not solve the problem. i am afraid of having a wreck and i am now becoming afraid of driving the car anywhere except on straight roads. it has gotten worse the last two years, but it has been a problem since i first started driving the car.

During acceleration, there is a burnt/exhaust odor entering the passenger cabin. i have taken it in to my ford dealer several times, but they can't seem to fix the problem even when they follow the tsb. it is makes feel me ill and i am afraid to drive the vehicle.

Exhaust fumes entering the cabin. when quickly accelerating the smell of exhaust fumes fills the cabin. i'm not sure if there is an issue with exhaust manifold or headers but i would imagine the problem is in the engine compartment since the smells comes through the a/c vents. this has me and my family worried of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Fume smell in the cabin. smells like the exhaust is coming into the vehicle. happens when the vehicle is moving or stationary.

Fumes in the car and even after taking it to the dealership it still has not fixxed the issue they have put new rear vents in and added more under coating

10 year old son in hospital with elevated levels of carbon monoxide. blood work showed a level of 2. this was after traveling for 1 hour in the third row seat of the car.

Strong exhaust odor in cab while driving + there is a recall on this car 16s18 replace both tear toe links

Exhaust fumes enter the cabins from vents while the explorer is operating at full throttle, such as when going uphill or merging onto freeways.

Have a 2014 ford explorer and it smells bad from exhaust and sometimes even in the cabin. if i am driving it for longer than an hour or so, it even make me dizzy. when i took it to the ford dealership, i was told that it is not a recall and i have to pay $650.00 to fix it. i have 37,000 miles on it so they don't cover it in 36000 mile warranty either.

We purchased a 2014 ford explorer in march 2017of this year. we took vehicle in for exhaust smells in april 2017. ford service department explained vehicle was emitting carbon monoxide smells into the vehicle. ford service department explained that the vehicle needed some "sealing" and that the exhaust was being circulated into the vehicle. once sealed they explained that the issues had been fixed. july 2017 we started smelling the same horrible smells that started giving us horrible headaches and nausea. every time we entered the vehicle we felt sick. we are a family of 6 with 4 children and will not drive the vehicle because we get sick everytime. this vehicle is unsafe and should be recalled immediately. sealing the vehicle obviously didn't fix the issue and now we are back to square one.

Fumes or gas smell coming out of car. strong odor coming out from car after driving.

There is an exhaust / propane smell entering the car. at times the smell is overpowering and has caused a nauseous feeling. having taken the vehicle in to the dealership and had the 2012 and 2014 bulletin work completed, there has been no difference. having purchased the vehicle 10 weeks ago from the dealership, i feel i own what may be the least family-friendly vehicle on the road. i have 4 and 8 year old daughters that i can't have ride in the vehicle because they will get sick. as a 6'3" man, i have become sick myself at times after driving for less than 5 minutes in residential streets.

When accelerating to merge onto the highway from an onramp, a daily event for me, a strong exhaust odor fills the cabin. it lingers a long time and i have to roll down the window to clear the air. it's not only annoying, i'm afraid there are health risks involved.

Exhaust fumes leaking into cabin causing family to breathe in fumes. it has happened since we bought the car new. if the vehicle ac is in recirculating mode and you accelerate, fumes fill the cabin for a short period of time. we always have to roll down the windows to let the fumes out. it happens essentially every time you drive the car . i called ford dealer and they said that there are no complaints they have seen. causes headaches and nausea.
