We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The driver side door ajar will not go away. the sensor seems to be broken for this and through my research is a very common problem. this cause the dome lights to stay on, hindering visibility while driving at night. further, the lights both inside/outside as well as the console stay on for 10 minutes if door is closed and locked. this in turn drains the battery sometimes requiring a boost.
The door ajar sensor keeps alerting - although door is not ajar - when car sits for any period of time this drains the battery. have had to replace battery twice. too expensive to have dealer repair.
My 2011 ford edge inside interior light stays on for several minutes every time i get in the car, i guess its the sensor on my door but its happened on the back hatch door as well. on my dashboard it tell me that i have an open door which its completely closed but light stays on until i drive off. or when i get out of the car and lock the doors the light stays on for several minutes, its draining my battery. when all of this happens i can not even lock my doors when i am driving the car, i need to lock my doors for safety purposes, my doors are always unlock because of this issue. also, car alarm will engage when car is parked and locked.
My vehicle displayed the door ajar alarm after the door had been shut securely. this occurred intermittently for two days, and then began to occur every time i got in the vehicle. a couple days later it went back to being intermittent. i would not get the notification when i first got in the vehicle, but then the alarm would go off while i was driving.
Door ajar sensor - front driver side door ajar signal stays on when door is closed interior light stays on all night (draining battery) doors do not lock while in vehicle causing a safety issue
The warning on the dashboard for driver's door ajar continues to come on despite the door being securely shut. this prevents the doors from locking. in addition, the interior lights illuminate at times when vehicle is off due to the door ajar warning, draining the vehicle battery. this causes a secondary safety issue of being stranded due to battery being drained and car unable to start.
Door ajar alarm stays on when door is closed inability to detect if other doors are ajar faulty switch the doors will not lock when traveling causing a safety concern
My wife was driving on a surface street with our infant boys in the back seat. without warning, the 2011 ford edge lost all power and the engine vibrated intensely. it could have caused a serious collision. she restarted the car and tried to make it home safely and slowly. it happened again on the way. the next day (7/20/15), when we drove the suv to the dealership, it happened a 3rd time. galpin ford (n hills, ca) diagnosed it with a faulty throttle body, not covered by our 7-year powertrain limited warranty. this is a certified preowned ford edge that we purchased a little over a year ago. throttle bodies should not fail with 45k miles on the car. and, it should be covered by the warranty, or better yet...it should be a recall. the loss of power is a dangerous problem that ford should take responsibility for. *tr
Driver side door ajar warning light stays on after door is closed
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the rear door ajar passenger warning indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the rear passenger door switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the passenger door independently registered as open when it was not. as a result, the exterior lighting remained illuminated while driving at any speed. the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to get diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000. update 01/13/16 ma
Rear door(s) show ajar even though the door(s) are closed. i open and close the door(s) and the computer reads them as being ajar and the interior lights stay on for awhile. i can't set my alarm because of the problem. in researching the problem on the web i found out that there are alot of people having the same problem on their ford products.
On june 12, 2015 my 2011 ford edge limited experienced problems with the locks. the car will not stay locked and unlocks itself. whether stopped in traffic, driving, after turning off the ignition, or walking away from the car, it unlocks itself and sometimes does it cyclically. it happens whether i lock the car manually or with the key fob. if i use the key fob, within a few seconds it will unlock itself again. if i lock it manually, it may be a few seconds or a few minutes. it causes the exterior parking and hazard lights to flash and the dome light to come on. it is not safe. i live in an major city. though i have a push ignition that won't start or operate the car without the key fob present, i am afraid that if i leave the car someone could get in and ransack/damage it or worse yet, get in and wait for me to return and attack me as i approach or open the car.
The drivers door ajar warning indicator remains on after fully closing the door. this will not allow the car doors to lock while driving, nor will it allow for the vehicle to be locked/alarmed when parked. on a couple of occasions, attempts to lock the vehicle have resulted in the alarm and emergency flashers going off. the problem was intermittent for several weeks, but is now constant. a safety as well as a security hazard.
Door sensor does not register that the door is shut, causing the lights to stay on inside continuously. this is a danger to the driver especially at night because i cannt see to drive with the inside dome lights on and its unsafe for the passengers when the doors will not lock.
The door ajar light stays on for both the driver side and passenger side doors. this is causing the interior lights to stay on and is draining my battery. it is also causing the interior light to stay on at night which is making it hard to see. the doors won't lock when in drive because of this problem too.
The driver door ajar sensor turns on when the door is shut. the door can be closed multiple times but the door ajar sensor still believes the door is not shut. this causes the battery to drain.
Ford edge suddenly lost power ( vehicle still running). no response from accelerator even though vehicle was still running. had to roll to side of road (very unsafe). a warning light briefly came on showing ":awd off" and after a few seconds warning changed the "wrench" icon. this happened a second time just a few hours later. i scheduled appointment with dealer for the next day, and it happend again on the way to the dealer. dealer ran codes, all passed and couldn't find issue. it happened again 10 miles after picking up from the dealer. rescheduled for next day with dealer. issue happened yet again on the way to the dealer. once again dealer could not find issue or any error codes. in summary, it happened 5 times in less than 30 miles of driving. this vehicle is not safe to drive.
Door ajar sensor stuck on "open" for driver's side front and rear doors. as a result, dome lights stay on causing difficulty seeing at night, and inability to lock doors while in motion. also, drains battery and has stranded my wife multiple times. repair is very costly and as i understand it, the replacement part is just as susceptible to the problem as the original equipment. ford needs to be responsible for this inherent defect.
Drivers door ajar warning stays on even when door is closed. this happens every time i open and close the door even when car is in motion
This the fourth time door sensor (door not closed) appears and inside dome light is on while driving dash is lite up and worst of all the doors donot lock which concerns us due to having small grand kids in back seating area. if they open door and take their seat belt off we can not stop car fast enough.
The auto door locks will not work properly. many times the doors will not lock automatically and the driver door ajar light will come on. the inside lights stay on. this should be a safety concern due to the fact that none of the doors will lock and stay locked with children in the back seat.
Door ajar sensor will not go out after door is closed. interior lights stay on after door is closed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while the vehicle was stationary, the warning indicator displayed that the front driver side door was ajar even though the door was closed securely. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
Door ajar sensor , lights stay on and doors won't lock
Car continuously says that it needs to be shifted into park even though it is already in park.
Car does not recognize when driver door is closed , even when closed it thinks the door is open.
Door ajar and interior lights remain on even when door is closed . interior lights stay on while driving causing it difficult to see also runs the battery down . continuing lights make it a hazard for the driver and other drivers
Door ajar light stays on regardless of how many times i close the door. the door is closed but the sensor stays on and the light inside the car will not turn off (due to the car thinking the door is open)--not sure if the door does not close all the way. seems unsafe to drive with the car this way since i don't know if it is securely closed.
A door ajar but no door open. latch key assembly had to be changed on driver's side front and now at 80,000 miles latch key change needing changed on passenger rear door. what will it take for ford to recall this issue. posted so many times here.
Driver door ajar alarm will not go off, even though the door is shut.
Driver door interlock switch consistently fails to work. this causes the interior lights to remain on until the car begins to travel forward and reach a certain speed. at night it is impossible to see anything behind you when backing up with the lights on. it has already caused an accident when i backed into a parked car. this is a very dangerous safety hazard as any person walking behind you could be hit.
Door latch fails so door ajar light stays on, along with inside dome lights. dome light stay on when driving causing difficulty in driving at night. this is a repeated failure. cost $149 to fix jan 2015, now has failed again
I am unable to lock my doors, when i press the door lock, it automatically unlocks them, (this will occur while sationary or moving) dome and outdoor mirror lights stay on while parked in garage or office lot. dash indicator door ajar is constant. left vehicle at airport parking lot during a 10 day vacation to return to a dead battery, on site security / vehicle assistance team says they saw dome light on during routine security rounds...my wife will not ride in the vehicle due to obvious security risk. this is so frustrating, when i ask the dealer to address this i was told it would cost $400 dollars !!! we opted to buy american during our countries economic troubles, we have a 2010 ford fusion and a 2011 ford edge. this has been a disappointing experience...
All doors are closed but "door ajar" notification is present prohibiting doors from locking and interior lights from dimming. this is a safety issue whereby the interior lights are distracting during night-time driving.
Rear driver's side door latch is defective. door is shut but has door ajar alarm and dome lights stay on and car alarm goes off while parked when door is ajar. it conveniently went out right after 50,000miles and warranty was up. ford should recall this as it seems to be very common problem but unfortunately a lot of people don't know about the procedure to file a complaint. the dealership wanted $100 just to look at the car and not including parts and labor. updated 09/18/15*lj
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while in park, the contact closed the front driver side door; however, the door failed to automatically lock and the interior dome light remained illuminated. the door ajar warning light also illuminated. the failure recurred on number of occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. updated 09/18/15*lj
After closing my car door it still says that the door is open and the lights stay on, even though the door is closed. i also can not lock my car door and i have to close or slam it repeatedly before it finally says it's closed and the lights go out. this has sometimes taken up to 20 minutes. got it fixed once and it started doing this again within 6 months. it is very frustrating and being that the door won't lock even when driving there should be a recall on this. this is ridiculous!!!
Drivers side door ajar light on. interior lighting will not turn off. user can't lock doors while driving. dome light stays on draining battery.
The door ajar sensor will not allow the door to be locked while in motion. additionally, it will force the interior light to remain illuminated after removing the key which then drains the battery requiring constant roadside assistance.
Edge drivers door ajar, and its not. doors don't lock, they think the door is open, inside lights stay on.
Driver door ajar comes on when door has not been used. this prevents the door from being locked and is therefore a major safety issues. there are multiple internet reports.
Door ajar sensor malfunction. sensor will not shut off when door is actually closed. this causes the interior lights to remain on while operating vehicle. also causes a strain on battery when exiting vehicle because lights stay on for a while. this is occurring in the front passenger door.
The driver's side door ajar light came on and wouldn't turn off even when the door was closed property, i took to the dealership and they told me that it was a known issue. they replaced the something electrical in the driver's door.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving at approximately 45 mph, the interior lighting remained illuminated and the door locks unlocked independently. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 23,000.
Defective throttle body. entering highway at approximately 45 mph and accellerating when car de-acclerated on its own to a crippling 2 mph. moved over to the far right side with car moving at 2 mph until i was able to get off highway and part car. let sit 15 minutes and car started and acclerated appropriately. 2 weeks later same thing. acclerating from a stop at a stop ligh and car de-acclerated on its on and limped to 2 mph untill i could pull off road and let sit. started badk up and drove ok. about two weeks later happened again. on august 30, 2015 the car began doing this daily and took 9 times of letting car sit after it de-acclerated to get home from work. called ford motor company and they claim no recalls for the defective throttle body problem that ford edges are having. researched the internet and see thousands of complaints with this issue. defective throttle body on ford edges including the 2011. called ford and lodged a complaint. took car to skillman ford in greenwood indiana and was diagnosed as a failed throttle body and needed replaced. was informed it would cost me $664.71 for me to have it repaired. was also informed there were no ford financial assistance programs to help me pay for repairs on the defective throttle body which is a ford problem. i did authorize the repair as i need my car. i am very unhappy with ford as they will not cover there defect and it is a known ford defective part-throttle body. what will it take for ford to step up and cover their defects? as much as i love my edge i will not purchase another ford product because there is no customer service programs at ford motor company (not the dealership where i got my car repaired) when there is an issue with defective parts and getting them replaced by ford. shame on you ford motor company.
The driver door latch sensor (driver door ajar) will not go out after closing the door. the interior lights stay on and the doors will not lock because of it.
The driver door states ajar even though it is not. dome lamps and warning light. *tr
This is the 2nd time in 3 years that i have had an issue with my driver door saying it is ajar when it is actually closed. it won't lock and the lights stay on, allowing for the battery to drain if left for too long. the door ajar light will not shut off unless i repeatedly slam the door until it registers that it is closed. besides, being a safety issue, it is hurting my shoulder because i have to keep shutting it over and over until it registers. twice i have gone out in our garage and night and found the entire car lit up because the car thinks the door is open. and it won't lock as long as the car thinks the door is open, which can also be a safety issue. this is apparently a known issue as many, many people on the internet are reporting the same issue. this is the 2nd time i've had my car to the dealer for this same issue! *tr
The driver door is not locking with the door ajar alert on. feel unsafe while driving. left the vehicle on an airport parking lot. the river door ajar was on even all the doors were locked. dome lights were left on while i was gone for several days. the battery was completely drained when had to call someone for help. thank god it happened at a secure place. *tr
