P60 - recall / nhtsa 14v-634 (alternator) on sunday 01/11/14 at 7:00pm at night my 2012 dodge charger with only 39,000 plus miles, (basically brand new) completely shut down in san andreas california on a back country road in the middle of the road at night, with my fiance driving and our two minor children in the back seat. all electrical systems shut down completely and the car actually put itself into park in the middle of the road at a stop sign and busy intersection. no hazard lights were available or working and this became an extremely dangerous situation.. chp was dispatched right away. (evidently by a passing driver who called 911 emergency). chp arrived at the site, parked their patrol car behind our car and used its hazard lights to warn oncoming drivers of this hazard. chp immediately called aaa, (for an emergency hazard situation), to remove our car off the road and out of traffic. chp stated our car, being in the middle of the road with no hazard light capability, was an immediate life threatening danger to my fiance and our two children and all other passing motorists. aaa arrived right away and towed our car approx. 40 feet off to the side of the road and immediately charged us a $200 hazard vehicle towing fee. aaa dispatched another tow truck as this tow truck driver was off duty and he only responded due to the emergency of the situation, (the call by the chp for a hazard vehicle).we had no alternative but to have the car towed to our residence in columbia california. the next morning, monday, 1/12/14, century service extended warranty administration requested the car towed to a full dodge dealership. i had the car towed from columbia california to modesto california dodge chrysler for $110. (the closest full dodge chrysler dealership). the dealer diagnosed the car. the alternator had gone out and shut down all electrical on the car. *tr

Driving 70mph on the interstate, the battery icon appeared on the dash. after checking the information system it stated "battery saver mode". in attempt to make it home, driving an additional 30 minutes- the electrical system in the car started to malfunction. the dashboard lights flashed out of control, the windshield wipers came on, the car accelerated without my foot on the pedal, and the steering wheel tightened where i was unable to stop or turn the vehicle. after an estimate of 1 minute of attempting to stop the vehicle, it failed. the car came to a complete stop and shut down. we were not able to restart it or put it in gear. we had a tow truck carry the car back to the dealer, rainbow dodge chrysler jeep of covington, la. after searching for information online, it stated that the problem is a faulty alternator, which is a safety recall for chrysler and the part is unavailable. *tr

While parked and while driving, the abs, esc, and brake malfunction indicator lamps illuminate with a double warning chime. after 1 to 2 minutes, the indicators turn off. while the indicators are illuminated, the respective systems are not enabled. this was tested in winter weather by braking on slippery roads with no anti-lock intervention, and accelerating around a corner with no traction control or stability control intervention. the issue only happens when the car has been in operation for more than 30 min, and is aggravated by wet conditions, or a car wash with undercarriage spray. i have taken the car to the dealership with the same results. "could not reproduce the problem". *tr

I have had trouble with my windows not working properly. the passenger window would go half way up then go back down, back windows wouldn't work at all. they had to charge the battery because it was low and would go into battery saving mode at red lights. they replaced the car radio because it would change channels for no reason. they say it is an issue with the alternator but do not have the parts to fix it. i have called the recall assistance line twice and have gotten no response. this car could be dangerous to me and others and nobody is taking it very seriously. i have my children in this car and my grandchildren in this car. please help. *tr

I pulled out of driveway & i felt my car was running funny i turned on the highway and the check battery light came on. i then stopped at the nearest gas station which was about 2 blocks away. i then started to lose power as i got to the gas station. my car entered battery save mode. i popped the hood & the alternator was smoking. it smelled burnt. needless to say if i kept driving i could have crashed because you lose control of your vehicle. i can see its a nationwide problem for this car & nothing has been done. some people have actually crashed & others there engines have caught fire. i did my research on it. *tr

My husband was driving on the highway with my 3 children and myself in his 2012 dodge charger on sunday, 10.26.14. the cars dash started getting wacky, going on and off. the car started to stall and thank god we were able to pull over. we shut the car off and then it did not start. we waited about 10-15 minutes and then it started back up. we started driving back home and it did it again and it made a weird noise. we shut it off again. while the car was off it was still going wacky with the ring as if the door was open and the lights were flickering and stating the key was not detected. the steering wheel was hard maneuver. we went online and there are a lot of recalls on this car. we were blessed we did not get into an accident. my husband is calling chrysler today regarding this issue. *tr

The air bag light keeps coming on, have taken it to two different dealerships. the first dealer was atlantic chrysler on 12/31/14, they said it was the bag in the seat. they reset the light and is was fine until approx. march, then came on a couple times. in approximately in april i took it to sport hyndani dodge, they said it was a dirty connection and charged me 90.00. that lasted approximately 1 month and it came back on intermittently, now continually. took it to sport today september 16, for a recall for the air bag system. they said it would not fix the light being on, they said it was a sensor and they would have to take the seat apart to figure out what the problem was. did not have it fixed today, did not have the time. has been in 3 times for same problem only to get 3 different diagnoses.

Hello. yesterday, i was driving on a city street 35 mph and i received an error message battery saver mode. i had never seen this before, all of a sudden my car starting going slower and slower. i was very lucky that i was at my destination before the car finally shut off. i could not do anything. my car would not do anything. i called aaa, i could not access the trunk. i am so glad my car doors were not locked. i had my daughter climb behind the back seat to lift the trunk. aaa checked my battery through the trunk and kept saying something is still on. my car was still in start although the car was completely shut off. then when he tried charging my battery, it was still draining. i am so glad the car did not shut off while i was on the highway (which i travel frequently with my children). i have learned that my alternator is bad. now i have to pay out of pocket for an alternator for a 2012 car, a 2012222222222 car! i can not even believe it! contacted chrysler and the rep told me if i take it to an independent shop there is not a guarantee i could receive my money back soooooo now i have to tow it to a dealer, which means there is more out of pocket expense. this is crazy and i expect so much more from such a long term company. i am livid that my car completely shut down on me and am thankful that my children and i are safe. *tr

I took my car in for routine engine oil replacement and tire rotation. after receiving it back i noticed a humming sound coming from the engine and the dash information center telling me that the car is now in battery saver mode.. reading through the forums it seems this has been happening with people driving the same car as me and this has always led to engine failure and possible fire or accident. prior to this incident, for the past 2-3 months, the airbag warning light has been coming on and off intermittently for no reason, regardless of anything on me seats. *tr

I was driving on the freeway going about 55 mph and all of a sudden i noticed a message appear on my car stating "battery on safe mode". a few minutes after that message appeared i noticed the brake light popped up, along with the battery sign, and fuel light. as i exited the freeway i started smelling smoke so i pulled into a gas station. my car completely shut off. all power was gone. i tried jump starting the car a few times. the first time i never got a charge. the second time i let the car sit 5 mins to charge and was able to get power but the same messages appeared and the car would not start. the 3rd and finally time i tried, the power cut on but once i disconnected the cables the power shut down again. i ended up getting the car towed and later found out the battery was drained due to the alternator being bad. so the alternator went out. i'm glad i was able to pull into the gas station that day, instead of the car shutting down on the freeway. i could have been in a serious accident. *tr
