When merging onto the freeway upon slight acceleration the engine died, in front of a semi truck! we had no power steering or brakes! this is a huge safety issue!! we were lucky to not have crashed. i then turned key to off and restarted to resolve the issue. this has happened 6 more times at lower speeds i.e. 15mph, 20, 30 mph ranges, with no check engine light!? brought it into mechanic and they couldn't find the issue, car had no codes. they suggested replacing the crank position sensor. we did that and it was fine.. for 15 miles until it died again!!! still no codes, dealer wont help, i can't drive the car as it is unsafe. i did some internet searches. found about a known issue with the fuel evap system and the fuel tank and filler neck. these faulty parts cause the car to read false rich signals and causes the engine to run leaner. so now, lack of appropriate fuel upon acceleration causes the engine to stall and lose effected drive systems. this is ludicrous from chrysler how many deaths has this caused!?!?
My 2006 charger rt begins to stall out every time after filling up the tank. in fact, anything past 2/3 of a tank will cause this issue. the stall generally happens while at a stop sign or light, when the rpms are low. the only way to continue is to turn the car completely off and restart it while pumping the gas. if i am able to get to the highway and up to speed before stalling out the engine sputters and the rpms dip a couple of times before stabilizing. this only happens ~3-10 minutes after putting gas in the tank. i drive a 2006 dodge charger rt. it just recently passed the 100k mileage after a ~600 mile trip home to see the family. i've had this problem occur many times over the past 1-2 years and i am becoming worried that this may be a common issue. after a bit of research, i've found that this is actually pretty common with 2006 chargers and feel that this is an issue that dodge aught to address. problems with the gas tank and evap system in this vehicle appear to be a frequent occurrence and can result in very dangerous situations. this has been a minor inconvenience as of yet but i'm concerned that this could cause very serious problems in the future, if they haven't already.
When driving and trying to accelerate the engine will completely cut out not completely stall then keep going. it has stalled on occasion but most of the time does not. when shut off and restarted problem goes away then will randomly reoccur days later. also had to have it towed home when a cheap metal part in the start mechanism broke my husband had to take the ignition switch apart to fix it when i called chrysler they said there was a recall for this but not for my vin number. also had an issue where the car would not come out of park only to find out that there was a recall on this but not for my vin number.
The vehicle continues to die randomly. this time, the vehicle died while attempting to accelerate onto the interstate (from the ramp). this time we took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and said nothing about the possibility that it could be related to the fuel tank valve. the independent mechanic believes it is the fuel tank valve and recommended we contact dodge because the car should be included in the tsb and the tank be replaced...updated 08/25/15*bf the consumer stated the failure occurred after each fill up of the gas tank. updated 11/30/2015 *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact had to maneuver to the side of the road to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the fuel pump was replaced, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired after the last incident. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unavailble. the approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
As i came to a complete stop, chimes when off in the car then the car just completely shut off. i restarted and car drove fine. the exact set of incidents happened several times a day over a course of a few months. i took the vehicle into a local dodge dealer. after spending thousands of dollars getting, tcm, ecm, major tune-up, spark plug coils, sensors repaired the problem still persisted. i have had over three different repair shops attempt to diagnose this issue and no one could figure it out. i noticed that the problem occurred even more frequently after filling up at the gas station. driving like this makes me feel very unsafe. this car has stalled numerous times in rush hour traffic and in freeway traffic. after reading several online threads it appears that other 06 charger owners are experiencing the same issues and it tends to point to a faulty sensor in the fuel tank. i need this matter resolved. this is very unsafe.
Engine shuts off at any speed. spent over $6,000 at dealership still has same problem. very very dangerous at freeway speeds lose of power steering and power brakes when the engineshuts down. will restart and drive after malfunctioning.
Car stalled 100 feet from service station after fill up with premium gas. since then the car is run with 1/4 to 3/4 tank of gas and never filled completely up. car shuts off during acceleration from stop light numerous times. car shuts off at various speeds and starts back running with a surge in acceleration. this happens with and without cruise control on. going up or down hills and on level pavement. amount of gas in tank does not make a difference. changed to different key no keyring without change in symptoms. mobile 1 synthetic oil changed regularly. car is driven by older driver within speed limit. purchased car new with no miles on it. this is a safety issue that will get someone killed. last drive was 20 miles. car shut down and restarted itself 5 times going down the road at 40 mph. i want to repair the car but chrysler/dodge will not issue a fix for this problem. first dodge i have ever owned.
I had just tanked up the car with premium unleaded, pulled out and came to a stop at light . the car surged and shut off, i placed it in park restarted it. then driving again 2mins later the car started stall i put it in (n) revved the engine. i had to stop at light and the engine again shut off,, put in (p) restarted it and before reaching home it started to stall again, but i was able to keep it running until home this trip was only 4miles. *tr
After refueling car intermittently began stalling and ultimately died upon coming to a stop. engine did restart but continued to stall and until destination reached approximately 6 miles. no further incidents until roughly two months later when exactly the same problem occurred under same circumstances. had just refueled and engine stalled repeatedly at speeds of up to 60mph then died when stopped at stop sign. engine restarted and continued to stall until residence reached. *tr
Vehicle stalled in traffic after fueling. *tr
Car stalls and engine shuts down, loss of steering while either sitting still or driving at higher speeds. this has happened on numerous occasions after adding fuel to the car.
After filling tank 2006 dodge charger rt v8 stalled multiple times. first two still sitting at pump, next at intersection while turning right and also lost power steering, next at parking space while straightening out. serious safety hazard, especially at intersections or stalling in traffic. found nhtsa pe13016 regarding this issue, but i see it is closed and was only issued to certain vins. all affected models should be covered for the tank replacement and associated 'float' and vapor purge valve. *tr
On 4 separate occasions now within the past few months, my car will shut off on its own after i have filled it with fuel. the first 2 times the car shut off while in the fueling station parking lot. the third time occurred while i was driving on a three lane road traveling at 50mph. the last incident occurred at a major intersection causing my vehicle to block traffic. each time was immediately after filling the car with gas. i use only premium fuel in the car and the fuel was purchased at different businesses. after allowing the car to sit for a minute or so, the car will restart and runs as normal. i have called a local dodge dealer and was told there are no recalls and that there is no way for them to diagnose what could cause this to happen. i have been told by other dodge charger and chrysler 300 owners that they too have had this issue; car shutting off after fueling. my concern is that by stalling in an intersection or at high speed, eventually a wreck will occur. i am also concerned by the dodge dealer's service department telling me there is no way to diagnose this issue. *tr
This problem started about a year age. at first it was once ever 3 months now it happening more often. on 1/14/2014 after filling the gas tank the car stalled nearly being rear ended on the expressway. this problem getting worse and worse everytime. this problem is going to take someone's life in an accident. *tr
I was driving right after filling up my gas tank i stop at a red light and i feel my car kick so i go the back way home as i slow down for a speed bump my car completely shuts off i've did some reading and this happens a lot with the 2006 chargers a lot. *tr
Engine stalls after refueling. usually at idle but has stalled while moving rendering power steering inoperative. common to pe 13-016 nhtsa. *tr
Please refer to pe13-016 regarding similar complaints. after filling car with gas left gas station and car stalled in traffic. after a few minutes car started but i had to sit blocking traffic until it started again. *tr
After filling up the gas tank vehicle was running, sitting in traffic. engine stalled. vehicle took a few minutes to restart as it sat in rush hour traffic. research indicates this dangerous problem is common on this vehicle. *tr
Car locked in park in the driveway. while driving in the rain all the dash lights flickered for 2-3 seconds then all lights and gauges shut down this included the headlights as well. while driving 55 miles per hour the car shut itself off i was in heavy traffic at the time. car is now at the dealership again they cannot find the problem. i still have the same problems with dash lights flickering and the car stopping. don't know if anyone else is having this problem but the car will also surge forward at a high rate of speed like i have stepped on the gas but my foot would be on the brake. this has happened several times and it scares me to death. these are safety issues that need to be corrected by the manufacture. dealerships are aware of these issues and have done nothing to correct the problems. this will be the last dodge i purchase even though i like to buy american made. an investigation should be done with so many complaints. i will be calling detroit with these issues. *tr
Recently, upon filling up my vehicle (i never top off and only fill to the click) i merged on to the interstate. at approximately 70 mph i noticed my car begin to sputter and rapidly degrease in speed. i pulled off to the shoulder and my car stalled several times until i finally got it running properly. ever since this incident my car will stall several times after every fill up, whether i put 15 gallons in or 5 gallons in. this forces me to fill up in either rural areas or late at night so that i do not put myself or others at risk. this seems to be a common problem with many chargers, magnums, and 300cs. this problem needs to be resolved before someone gets killed. *tr
After filling up with gas drove out of gas station and car stalled started it up and i drove a couple blocks and it did it again drove about 1/2 mile it did it again. it was scary i was in heavy traffic. *tr
Hi, i've had a number of issues with the fuel tank scenario the earlier models suffer with. when i fill the car, it stalls a number of times. i was in a situation where i was coming to a light, the rpm's started to drop and the engine started to die as i was breaking. then the car revved back to life and this cause the rpm's to shoot up jolting the vehicle forward. immediately after it died yet again however the issue is i lost all power, steering, brakes, everything. from the jolt forward i came dangerously close to rear ending the car in front of me with a heavy brake pedal. at this point i was jarred a bit, and needed to get the car going again. i went to start it and it did no't want to turn over for roughly 30 seconds. the light changed and there was a lineup of disgruntled drivers behind me as i made efforts to get going again. then inevitably the vehicle died yet again in the middle of the intersection and went through the same situation. to negate this, i have made efforts to not fill the tank. now the bigger issue i am having is that when i go to put gas in the car, it does not take. i cannot get a gallon in without the pump clicking off. it takes me quite some time, 10 minutes even to simply put $20 in the car, and i get very frustrated gas attendants here in jersey if i'm not permitted to do man the pump. you need to literally stand with it and continue to reset the pump as it slowly takes and continuously clicks off. this problem needs to be solved, it i's simply unacceptable and dangerous. i have many other instances & dates with stalling and jolting issues after fillup. even when i leave a 1/4 of the tank empty, i still get some symptoms. not as often, but the car still does die out. now that it is so difficult to fill, it is inconvenient to drive. i love the car but the issues are almost not worth it, especially with how thirsty the srt is-no pun thanks *tr
After refilling the gas tank, the engine stalled several times with "bucking". the tank was not overfilled. after about 5 miles and several stalls, the condition went away and did not reoccur until i gassed up at a different station two weeks later. again the tank was not overfilled. internet search indicates that this is being investigated as pe13-016. prior to this there has been no similar incidents. others have had similar issues. *tr
My daughter after fueling up her 2006 dodge charger rt and while leaving the fueling station, the car stalled in traffic. several attempts to start with no success. after receiving assistance moving the vehicle to a safe parking place, the car started, but ran extremely rough. after about five minutes the engine smooth out. this problem would happen only after filling up with fuel. tried fueling up at different fueling stations, same results. the engine seems to would shut off always as you are attempting to get into traffic. had our mechanic check the vehicle out the first time, they cleaned all to do with injectors and housing ect. still the problem exist. worry with this car and my daughter driving it with the potential to stall in traffic. since the problem started, the vehicle has stalled from fueling up approximately 15 times. *tr
I just filled my car up with gas and drove it. i came to a stop at the light and when i began to accelerate my car stalled in the middle of the intersection. it finally picked up speed, but as i approached the second light it completely cut off. i was able to start it but i had to go over 50+ or more miles per hour to keep it from stalling. once i drove into my driveway it completely cut off again. i ran the car for 30 minutes and it did not cut off, but when my husband left for work, as he approached the red light it cut off once again. this has got be fixed. it is to dangerous to stop in the middle of the intersection, or anytime while driving for that matter. i have a 2006 dodge charger rt hemi 5.7liter engine.up to date on all oil changes. *tr
While driving my 2006 dodge charger, at interstate speeds, while operating with cruise control, a single alarm sounded, the vehicle lost power and completely shut down, only to restart seconds later and accelerate again. since that incident, the vehicle has stalled on multiple occasions, while driving at nearly any speed, accelerating, stopped at lights, every scenario imaginable. on two separate occasions while pulling out of a parking lot, making a left hand turn, the vehicle has completely stalled leaving me sitting in the oncoming lane of traffic, once nearly being hit in the driver side door. if i had to describe one situation that seems to take precedence, it would be mostly when accelerating. the problem occurs randomly, and at times will not stall at all for several days, then stall 10 times in one day. it has nothing to do with the fuel level, full tank full, half, or empty, right after fill-ups, or before. it is a random problem that can and will occur anytime, under any circumstance. this is certainly a safety issue, and will ultimately result in someone's injury. in reading multiple post on the internet (hundreds/thousands) it is obviously a common problem, but there does not really ever seem to be a definitive answer to correct.
I drive a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7l hemi. it has the 19 gallon fuel tank in it. the tank is defective as it causes the car to stall soon after a fill up and usually it'll just stall anytime it chooses even in the middle of the road. this is a known issue and the nhtsa and chrysler settled this earlier this year. well, i called chrysler corp. about this and they transferred the warranty into my name and asked me to have it towed to the dealership. after all that was done, i get a call from dodge customer care and they tell me that there is no warranty on the car since it was originally registered and made for canada. this is a very stupid excuse to avoid repairing a problem they caused. they are refusing to repair their defect as per the terms they agreed to with the nhtsa. this vehicle is unsafe to drive as it stalls out at any time. *tr
Vehicle jerks while driving as if something is starting to die or go out, then starts running again. only appears to happen after filling the fuel tank to completely full. vehicle will stall out within several feet after fueling up, then restart and you're good to go. you drive maybe an eighth of a mile and as you slow to a stop, the car will stall out and die again. usually fine for the rest of the evening. vehicle eventually shuts off when i come to a near stop or am stopped. oil lamp light turns on when the car dies. tried restarting twice, but was unsuccessful. took the key out of the ignition, then waited a few minutes. tried to start the engine again and was successful. it seems extremely unsafe to drive like this, but it seems i have to drive long enough to burn off some gas to keep the gas tank under full at all times to avoid this problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. whether the vehicle was stationary or driving various speeds, it would stall when the fuel tank was filled. perry chrysler dodge jeep ram in san diego, california was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no complaints or failure codes regarding this issue. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
When i fill up with fuel i can make it out of the parking lot and to the intersection an the car will die. and then it won't start for a while and it spits and sputters. *tr
I have owned the car for only a week. it's a beautiful car with a 5.7 hemi. the first time i fueled the vehicle it stalled as i re entered traffic without warning. it stalled several times within a 4 block area but would restart each time. with a 16 year old son now driving i am concerned that he might not be able to react approximately. i'm going to call the dealership. *tr
After fueling my 2006 dodge charger on the above stated date the car stalled after exiting the gas station. i restarted the car and proceeded through an intersection where it hesitated and stalled again. after restarting the second time there were no more issues with the car stalling that day. a day later there was an issue with being able to stop the car upon pressing on the brakes and coming to an intersection. luckily the car was able to be clear the intersection and an accident was avoided at that time. a couple days later there was an issue with the car not being able to stop as needed again at an intersection. during the times where the car is unable to stop it seems as if the car decreases in acceleration and is uncontrollable at that time, after taking it to a local dodge dealership i was informed that the fuel tank needs to be replaced, which is covered under dodge extended warranty but it is unknown as to when the two needed parts would be in because the dealerships are on restriction with ordering the needed parts (2 parts are needed, one part can be order 1 every 7 days and the other 1 can be order 1 every 14 days). the only advice that i am being given is not to fill the gas tank all the way up, but these issues have occurred without the tank being completely full. i was given an estimated time frame of 4 to 6 months before the parts are available, which is totally unacceptable because i have to work daily.dodge seems unwilling to accommodate consumers while this issue in being addressed, which is bad business. this is a huge safety issue and i do not feel safe driving my kids in a car that stalls at any given time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the fuel tank was refueled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician informed that the vehicle was functioning as designed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.
Filled vehicle with 10% ethanol 87 octane gasoline at self-service station on september 19, 2014. drove away and vehicle stalled at first intersection. i put the vehicle in neutral and started it with no further problems until i filled tank again after about 250 miles. (i was driving a 1500 mile trip from one state to another.) every time i refilled the tank, the vehicle would stall within a few hundred feet of filling station. this stalling has continued through yesterday, september 29, 2014, and i am concerned it will happen again when i refill the tank. if the vehicle stalls at the wrong time, someone could be seriously hurt or killed. *tr
Pe13-016. car stalls repeatedly after refueling. *tr
This incident started occurring in september of 2014 but i always thought it was a "hiccup" and never really paid it any mind until it starting happening much more frequently. after i fill up my gas tank (i don't over fill) my car has intermittent engine stalls causing me to lose throttle response and my power steering. sometimes the car has enough rpm to restart the motor but most of the time i have to shift to neutral and turn the key to restart. this is happening while driving down the interstate!! scares me to death. now i have this stalling issue every single time i fill up. when slowing down is when the incident is most prevalent but even taking turns its happened and i lose power steering. this is a safety issue. *tr
I filled up with gas in california when on vacation. i pulled out of the gas station and onto the freeway. about a minute after merging and getting up to speed the entire car shut off. no power, no power steering, completely died. i had to merge through two lanes of highway traffic at highway speeds to get out of the flow of traffic. car was able to restart after putting it in park and waiting several minutes. huge safety concern having the vehicle completely shut off on me. i have had four other instances of this happen to me. the other times i was on side streets or in the parking lot waiting for the car to die. *tr
Car shuts off while driving at any speed. *tr
I learned about the fuel tank warranty and will be getting that repaired, but my issue is at 75 to 100% throttle my car will stall out. but my car starts back up on its own like nothing ever happened. when it stalls it throws you forward like the car is braking and then when it fires back up you can hit the throttle and it will go as normal. *tr
After filling gas tank completely, car started stalling going down the road. continued to stall at stop light and in parking lot and would not stay running unless hitting the gas pedal. problem seemed to resolve itself after a few miles. same exact issue has happened multiple times over the last few months, but only when filling the gas tank completely. when only putting partial amount into tank, this issue does not seem to be an issue. have done research online and it seems to be a common problem with the 2006 charger and 2 other chrysler models. spoke with firestone in columbus ga and was advised there was a service bulletin regarding this issue and that my gas tank needed to be replaced. contacted a dodge dealership in columbus ga over 2 months ago and was advised fuel tank is on national back order. *tr
After refueling vehicle, the engine would stall each time the vehicle came to a stop. this happened for several miles. after several miles of continuous driving, the problem stopped. i've read this is due to a evap problem with my year and make of car. *tr
After every fill up my 2006 dodge charger will die. it will stall. it will stop running. this will, and has happened while idling at intersections, during u-turns, left turns, right turns, at 25 mph, at freeway speeds up to 65 mph, and, or every speed in between. it occurs up to and until the engine burns off sufficient fuel so as not to effect whatever system is being effected/failing. this is potentially fatal (one example could be while making a legal left hand turn in front of on coming traffic fully expecting the car to continue running, and then immediately losing engine power, power brakes, and power steering which are all supplied only while the engine is running. this should be recalled immediately as i have read hundreds of complaints for identical issues. *tr
I first noticed an issue not long after buying the car. after every fill up (without topping off), within a few hundred feet of driving off the oil pressure light comes on and the car shuts off. it has not caused an accident yet but it is a huge annoyance and could cause future problems. i've read online that its an issue with the evap system. its an expensive issue and is due to poor vehicle parts, not operator use and needs to be recalled and fixed. *tr
I have experienced a number of incidents where the vehicle while moving at a slow speed (typically in city traffic) the vehicle will jerk forward and the engine light will ding. sometimes the car will push through and keep moving other times it will stall completely and need to be restarted. this has been incredibly dangerous as it has happened getting on highways from on ramps. once i restart the car all seems to be fine but its completely unpredictable and very dangerous! *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, the contact mentioned that the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
After fuel refill, motor will stall and die multiple times for up to the next mile of driving at any speed. this is dangerous. after online investigation i found this is a serious problem with many cars of this type. it is also, in my eyes, an extremely expensive repair as it will cost me nearly 1/4 of the price i paid for the car. chrysler should stand behind there product, repair and replace the faulty tanks in all affected vehicles, not just the first unlucky few, who reported it first. *js
I was driving out of the gas station and the car started to stall do to a problem with the gas tank. the car would shake forward and back very hard then the engine would race almost to redline then the car would stall. it did this three times but on the third time i heard what sounded like medal hitting medal. the third time i tried to start the car and heard this loud ticking sound. i cut the car off and back on and the sound was still there. i had the car towed to the dealership and they took apart my engine to find out what the issue was. i was told that i had a rod bearing issue and my engine needed to be replaced. this is going to cost me $6300. i don't believe this is fair due to the repeated engine stalling and jumping is what caused my issue in the first place. the dealership originally told me that the stalling and jumping is the cause of my issue and because there is a warranty on the gas tank they would replace any damage that it caused. after requesting the funds from chrysler corp. the dealership stated my issue could not be caused by the jumping and stalling. i question their honesty. i called dodge and was told that they refuse to cover any damage to my vehicle due to the mileage and it cannot be proven what caused my issue even though they told me that the repeated jumping and stalling could cause this to happen. *tr
After refueling and if i leave the pump, but not the station, i experience bucking and/or stalling and loss of steering and brakes. this happens even up to a couple of miles of driving. my car bucks violently at highway speeds and even stalls. if i stop at a stop sign or light, it stalls. it happens on a soft or hard acceleration. i tried them both. if i do leave the station immediately, it will then happen on a city street, road, even on the interstate. it happens after every fill-up, so travel is not only unnerving, it's unsafe... losing steering or brakes. they told me not to top off at the gas pump. i don't. it happens on the flat, up hill, down hill, turning right or left, warm weather or cold weather, high or low humidity, it still happens. i was told that it is about a $1500 fix. if i had $1500, i wouldn't be driving a 13 year old car.
