Problems with 2006 Dodge Charger FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2006 Dodge Charger starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 82 737 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Dodge Charger

Vehicle stalled when driving shortly after fueling. engine started again after cranking for several seconds, but strong smell of gasoline after starting. no further problems with the vehicle until the next refuel. this has been happening repeatedly after refueling ever since the original incident on the date given. this may have been happening periodically over the past 2 years, but before this it was infrequent enough that we really didn't pay any attention to it. we never top off the tank, stopping fueling after the nozzle initially clicks off. *tr

Engine stalls and dies after filling up car. usually dies 4 times than no more problems until i fill the car up again. i have worked with my mechanic for almost 1 year trying to find the problem. the solutions so far is to not fill the tank up all the way. car complaints.com show that nhtsa is investigating these complaints. says that you have closed the investigation and found the problem to be the fuel shut-off float in the multifunction control value stiicks. i call chrysler assistance about the warranty on the fuel tank being extended to life time to cover this problem but they said they did not know anything about it. lady said she had receive 3 calls about the problem in the last week. but just told me to contact nhtsa. *tr

After filling my car at the gas station, car would stall during acceleration immediately filling gas tank. it would choke or try to cut off when approaching a stop light or stop sign. sometimes eventually shutting off in the middle of road, requiring multiple key turns to get vehicle started again.

As i was driving across the desert on i-10 in arizona, all of a sudden my car lost all engine power. the lights on the dash chimed, my rpms dropped to zero, then just as suddenly they all went right back to normal and the engine jerked us forward as the tranny figured out what gear it belonged in. it started like that, only happening on occasion. now, i can't make it more than 1-2 miles (literally) without stalling out or losing engine fire. if it happens when i'm at a low mph the car just stalls out and died. no power steering or brakes, but the lights and radio are working. on the hwy at higher speeds, it lurches as described above. on the on-ramp, however, it becomes a life or death situation, especially when starting on a downhill ramp with a big rig wailing up behind me. i have been missed by truly only inches on multiple occasions. i can't afford a new car, they can't find what's wrong with mine, and i can't sell a vehicle that won't make it for a test drive. can we please get a fix? answers? wasn't it my tax dollars that bought this company out of bankruptcy? *tr

Vehicle stalls out and engine stops running after filling with gas. reported problem to dodge after several instances, once going 50 mph when car completely died while in traffic just missing getting rearended. dodge states there is a fuel tank problem and a replacement is needed at a cost of 1500.00 this problem needs to be addressed, as there are numerous incidents listed on the internet. i have to fill my car to only the 3/4 full mark to keep it running without incident. *tr

Each time after filing the gas tank the car stalls and engine dies before able to make a left or right turn or taking off from stop light. it does this repeatedly until driven a few miles. stalls at the most critical time when merging into traffic. getting to the point now that this vehicle will be junked before i get killed or someone else. chrysler does not honor their extended tank warranty under the agreement as per the nhtsa agreement on feb.14,2014. therefore as a taxpayer that paid for their bailout ,next time let them fail. no more chrysler products for my family and friends ever. *tr

After filling my car up with gas, i turned the car on so i could leave the lot. after it ran for about 3 seconds, the car completely stalled. i waited a moment or so, and then re-started the car. it did stay up longer this time, but eventually stalled out about a minute later. i restarted the car again, and was able to get out of the gas station lot. once i pulled up to the light, the car then stalled out. on a fourth restart, i made sure to keep the car in motion as it seems to experience some sort of vapor lock. while the car did sputter, i was able to get to work safely. i only experience this issue if the car is fully gassed up. if i hear a hissing sound from the tank, i know that the car is not going to stay started. *tr

Engine dies when at an idle and low speeds. cranks right back but will die at low mph. almost always dies at red lights and stop signs. also dies when about to make turns at low mph. dealership has no idea what is wrong. has been doing this for almost a year. *tr

My 2006 dodge charger stalls and dies when i am driving at low speeds or when i stop. this usually occurs after i have refueled my car. on the last occurrence my car died in an intersection. the car usually restarts after i turn the key. however, the other day it took several tries to restart it again. *tr

Filled my car with gas, drive approximately 1/4 mile to a stop light and the car died. restarted with no problem but died again when stopping at the next light, about 1 mile farther..restarted and drove very badly for the next 6 miles...didn't do it again until i filled with gas. took it to a mechanic and he said the error code was contaminated oil. i had recently had oil changed, but he changed it again and it didn't do it for a few months. it has now started ding it again, everytime i fill the tank with gas..am taking it to dealer tomorrow (11-2013). *tr

Car stalls out at low speeds or when at light. consistent with other problems raised concerning these vehicles. *tr

After refueling, car stalls numerous times while driving in traffic. i only have 50,700 miles on the car. i understand the nhtsa has studied the issue, pe13-016 and required chrysler to extend the fuel tank warranty indefinitely. i have the car at cerritos dodge in cerritos, ca and they indicate that there is no extension and want $2200.00 to repair. chrysler doesn't admit to any extension as well. please help! thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Filled gas tank till the pump auto shut off. pulled out onto the highway, accelerated to about 20 mph, let off to turn at next intersection and car stalled. restarted and pulled into a parking lot and the car stalled again. waited 10 minutes and restarted, ran rough until got back on interstate. has happened again on 6/6/2013. *tr

Car was running fine, stopped at a gas station and filled the tank. after leaving the station and pulling into traffic the car engine died. almost was rear ended due to the car stopping instead of accelerating. pulled over to the right side of the lane and tried to restart. second attempt the car started and i pulled out into the lane and drove about a block and the car engine shut off again in an intersection. another close call with other vehicles. i restarted the engine and pulled into a parking lot and drove around to see if the engine would quit again, it did, 2 more times. finally it stayed running for awhile so i drove it home approx 10 miles with no problems. thought i had gotten bad gas or water in the fuel. drove it for a week no problems. the next time i refueled at a different gas station and it happened all over again, same symptoms. the problem is associated with filling the fuel tank. seems to match nhtsa action number pe13016. *tr

When vehicle gets filled up with fuel, the vehicle will stall and also quit running at idle and while accelerating. called the local dealership they have not heard anything about the problem. searched online and found the national highway traffic safety administration has closed an investigation on this problem. supposedly chrysler is fixing it, but like i previously wrote, the lawton chrysler jeep dodge dealership has no knowledge of what is going on. *tr

After filling up my gas tank with fuel i drove my car about 16 miles and it stalled out, i put it in neutral and it did start back up. next day i took my car to the dealership and my adviser asked me if i topped off my tank after filling up and i said yes, so he told me not to do that because the 06 model chargers have a defect with the gas tanks that cause's the car to stall out after topping it off. i took his advise and my car didn't stall out for about 7 month's. on 08/01/13 i filled up my gas tank without topping it off, got on the highway drove about 16 miles again and exited, as i was making a left turn the car stalled out again and it did that two more times as i was driving it to the dealership. this time my adviser told me to only fill up 3/4 of a tank.the cost for this repair is ridiculous and the customers who paid 30k to 45k for these cars should not be stuck with the bill. there should be a urgent recall on all of these cars before someone gets hurt or turn's into road kill on the highway. *tr

After filling up my fuel tank up for the first time the car was hard to restart. once the car started the she kept cutting out and even died twice. this happened while i was in traffic. since that time every time i filled the tank i have the same issue. i have had to resort to only filling the car up to 3/4 tank to avoid this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact had to restart the vehicle to resolve the failure momentarily. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated there was a charcoal canister in the fuel system that needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 56,000. the current mileage was 58,005. updated 7/10/13 *cn

In the 2006 dodge charger r/t the car will completely turn off if the gas is full or close to full. this is a well known issue with the r/t model. dodge has known of this issue for years and also the dealerships. after filling the tank the vehicle will turn off in turn losing power steering brakes and engine power even while your foot is on the gas pedal. i have almost gotten into accidents due to this. i took my vehicle to the dodge dealerships and was told that this is a known problem and dodge refuses to call a recall. *tr

Upon filling the gas tank with gas, i pulled away from the gas station into traffic and the car shut off (stalled) after about a block of travel. after about 5 attempts and waiting about 10 minutes or the car started and remained started. the same issue happens every time i fill the gas tank (proper filling, not topping off). i cannot fuel up without fear of the vehicle stalling soon after. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after fueling the fuel tank more than half full, the vehicle stalled. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was found. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 70,000. updated 6/4/13 *cn

After filling the gas tank, the car would stumble, miss and start jerking. was making a 90 degree right hand turn and the car shut off. in the middle of the turn, i had no power steering nor brakes. fortunately, there were no oncoming cars as i ended up on the wrong side of the street. car restarted and ran a few feet before the stumbling, jerking and missing started to occur once again. after reading up on this problem, i had the gas tank replaced, as it (the tank) had all of the signs of a bad "roll-over" valve. this valve is molded into the gas tank and is non-replaceable. once the tank was replaced, the problem has gone away and have not had an issue since. *tr

If i fill up my car with gas, it will stall and hesitate. after driving for a few miles it will stop and not happen again until i fill it up again. if i don't fill it all the way, it wont do it. please fix it!!! *tr

After fueling up/topping off to the first shut-off only, after pulling away from the gas pump, the car hesitated, stalled and failed to restart right away. it has been increasing this behavior from rarely to almost every time i fuel up - i am now at 171,*** miles. last night i fueled up, drove about 300 yards and parked for the night. this morning the car failed to start. after about 6 attempts, i floored the accelerator while cranking and the car started. after pulling out of the parking lot where i was parked and onto the highway, he car sputtered/hesitated 4 times (kind of like a bucking bronco) about 70 yards down the road, with traffic catching up to me and then it settled back to its normal self. about 3 weeks ago, while traveling through tennessee, i fueled up, pulled into the street and approached a red light and i stopped at which time the car did its hesitation and stalled. i tried to start the car, but it would not start. i hit the 4-way flashers and i sat there for about 25 seconds before the car was able to be started again. i don't use cheap gas, i don't gas up at a station if i see a tanker truck filling the tanks (or pulling out of the station) and i stop filling after the initial shut-off of the pump. on a side note, since day one (sep 2005), when gassing up, i have to rest the pump handle on the filler door, which ends up putting the pump handle upside down at about the 10 or 11 o'clock position depending on the padding of the handle. any other position would cause the pump handle to click off almost immediately when trying to fill the tank. from what i have read on various charger forums, i am not the only one that has had the above "problems". i am afraid one of these days this behavior will lead to an accident with somebody getting hurt or possibly even killed, either in a rear-end collision or a t-bone collision. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that approximately 10 minutes after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the vehicle would restart immediately after the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 63,000. ...updated 03-20-13 *bf updated 04/02/2013 *js

Re:pe13-016 re: dodge/chrysler x53 - 19 fuel tank vehicle began shutting off about a mile down the road after refueling. upon receiving "extended warranty" letter from chrysler - may 8, 2014, called dealer to have part replaced. part has been on "backorder" for last 2 months. i keep getting told "you are next in line to receive part" from the dealer and the dodge customer service center toll free line. this is unacceptable when you are driving down the road and for no reason or fault of yours, the car begins to stall or cut off completely. my car has cut off while making a turn across two lanes of traffic - luckily no one was coming and i was able to coast across the lanes..."safely". my car has cut off going down the road at 40-50 miles an hour. this is a very dangerous situation. and truth be know, this needs to be a recall and handled promptly by chrysler. i have several documented calls into chrysler. no one can tell me when part will be ordered or sent to dealer or status of situation. please help consumers get this problem escalated. thank you. *tr

After filling up with gas the vehicle will stall out and die. especially after a stop or making a sharp turn. if you fill the tank halfway or 3/4 the problem does not happen. *tr

2006 dodge charger. consumer writes in regards to design defect on gas tanks *tgw the consumer stated after driving the vehicle for a year, it started stalling without warning. it kept getting more and more frequent as time went by, but he never realized what was causing the stalling, until one afternoon he left the gas station, and as he turned onto a roadway, he tried to accelerate, and the vehicle stalled and another vehicle swerved to avoid him, but that vehicle crashed into another vehicle and then a tree. a police officer informed the consumer, his vehicle had a known defect with the design of the gas tank. after doing some research, the consumer read where the valve was molded in the gas tank, so raw fuel flooded the valve, stalling the engine. *jb

This issue relates to pe13-016. my 2006 dodge charger fuel tank cannot be filled to over 3/4 capacity. when it is filled beyond this level, the engine will stall, particularly after making a lh turn. i have been enduring this problem for years and have become fairly adept at re-starting my car in heavy traffic conditions and fortunately have not been involved in any collisions as a result. i understand chrysler negotiated a settlement with nhtsa to treat this as an extended warranty condition before a full blown recall order was issued. however, even though chrysler acknowledges that being a 2006 charger with a 5.7l engine matches all the criteria to be included in the extended warranty, my vehicle's vin is not included on the list of effected vehicles and refuses to correct the problem. there is obvious culpability and chrysler's part and they appear to be hiding behind an administrative technicality to avoid doing what they agreed to do in their settlement of pe13-016 with nhtsa. *tr

The car stalls in traffic after it is filled with gas. this happen repeatedly and we took it back to the dodge dealer who replaced the purge valve in the gas tank. this did not solve the problem, the car still stalls after filling the tank with gas and continues to stall and "stutter" until about 1-2 gallons are used. this problem is very much a safety hazard.

I own a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7 liter hemi engine. i purchased it new in june of 2006 with 5 miles on the odometer. after 6 years of filling up my car by letting the gas pump stop automatically with no issues; the car began to stall right after filling-up when topping off the tank, starting around may of 2012. i called autonation dodge in roseville, california and the service technician was familiar with my issue. he asked if i had filled up the tank by topping it off. i told him, affirmative. he advised me to not top off the tank at all during fill-ups or to buy a new fuel tank at the cost of $2000-3000 with installation. for the past couple of years, i've been lucky to not top off the fuel tank, but it has occurred at least 4 times when i made the mistake of topping off the gas. the last time this occurred was yesterday. after buying gas and having the pump stop automatically, i drove into a major intersection and stopped at the red light. the car turned off, and it took about 3 tries of re-starting the ignition in park before the car luckily powered on again. when my light turned green, the car would jump and lose power while shifting into second and third gears. i was very fortunate to not have any cars behind me, because this issue of the car stalling could cause an accident. this stalling hazard happened again yesterday on my way home and also this morning. i feel chrysler/fiat should replace all effected 2006 dodge charger r/ts with this issue by replacing the tank or whatever repair it would take to fix this safety hazard. i feel that most owners of this vehicle won't be aware of this issue until it happens to them personally. it should be mandatory for chrysler/fiat to issue a recall with all expenses covered by the manufacturer. *tr

After refueling, car tends to stall, or not axcelarate properly. causing multiple problems without power.. *tr

First instance was on sunday, 6 may 2012. car stalled after turning onto city street while accelerating to posted speed: 35 mph. if fuel tank is filled to click on gas pump (full tank) this continues to happen, especially in very humid weather conditions/rain. car has also stalled on hills at stop signs or traffic lights and has stalled at on-ramps to local interstate highway/city bypass, given the above full fuel tank issue. if i don't fill the tank above the 7/8 mark on the fuel gage indicator, the car does not stall. if i exceed the 7/8 mark, then the car does stall, multiple times if very humid conditions exist and will continue until the fuel tank is at or below 7/8 capacity. i've had approximately 22 stalls since sunday 6 may 2012. it's inconvenient to have to guess when to stop the fuel pump at gas stations and very frightening to stall in traffic, especially at on-ramps to highways. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t and every time i fill up the car stalls while driving, sometimes at slow speeds or once you make a complete stop. it has happened since 2012. i take care of this vehicle. i thought it was the gas which i changed the gas octane and still the same results. i thought the issue would pass but it hasn't. i have stalled in traffic by the grace of god i wasn't hit. took the car to a dodge dealership a few times they still can't seem to find a reason as to why it stalls. i talked with a guy one day and he said that his wife car has done it and not to fill up or replace the entire fuel system. why would i not fill up if i'm traveling especially out of town and why replace the same fuel system that's going to eventually give the same results. sooner or later something bad is going to happen and something needs to be done about it. really, who knows if it's going to stall even if you don't fill up and stall at the wrong time and someone gets in an accident getting seriously injured or possibly death due to something as filling up a vehicle. ridiculous your life could be in danger due to putting fuel in your vehicle and no matter how many times there's a complaint about it looks like nothing will get done until someone actually lose their life. more than likely that's how it works nothing is ever done until something bad happens. the car stalled today 4/26/2014. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall whenever he drove a quarter of a mile after refueling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the roll over valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 70,000. updated 06/12/12*lj the consumer stated the valve only be replaced by replacing the gas tank. updated 06/13/12

Every time you fill up the gas tank the car wants to stall. i'm told there is a solenoid in the gas tank that fails and it lets raw fuel go to the evap canister causing a stall condition. this solenoid valve is molded into the gas tank and the only way to fix it is to replace the gas tank. this stall can happen while your sitting at a stop light or just pulling out into an intersection. the intersection situation is very dangerous. *tr

Vehicle stalls after filling up with gas due to a faulty valve in the gas tank. could cause a collision if the car stalls in front of on coming traffic. this problem is not only common to the charger but to all chrysler vehicles. the only solution is to replace the gas tank due to the fact that the valve is not serviceable. *tr

The car bucked and acted like it was going to stall entering the freeway. this happened after filling up with fuel at the gas station. this condition has progressively gotten worst. when i fill up, i can only fill to approximately 3/4 full tank in order to prevent stalling when stopping or accelerating around a turn. apparently there is a problem with the roll over valve on the top of the fuel tank. it stops working over time and allows raw fuel to enter the evaporative system that is only designed to handle vapors. this causes the bucking, stalling condition. this condition is extremely dangerous in traffic. this valve is not a serviced item and only comes with the fuel tank. the cost of a new fuel tank is about $800 + labor. dodge should replace the tank for a minimal fee because of this defect. please pursue before someone gets seriously injured or killed due to this issue. *tr

Approximately 1 month ago, this problem started to occur; after fueling up the vehicle will start to stall randomly and continuously. no matter while stopped at a light or traveling at highway speeds. after looking the problem up on the internet, i discovered that there has been thousands of people having the same problem with the same make/model vehicle, along with similar model vehicle, as i am. apparently this is a manufacturer defect that they are aware of but do not want to fix the problem or recall it to have it fixed. from what i have been reading on the internet the problem is occurring in the fuel tank, where the fuel control valve on top of the fuel tank (only serviced with the tank), fails and allows raw liquid fuel to enter the evap system. a short time after start up, the pcm actuates the purge solenoid to purge the vapors from the canister. since there is raw fuel in the canister and lines, the result is an overly rich mixture that floods the engine, causing the engine to stall. i am trained and employed law enforcement officer in the state of florida and am well trained in reacting to high stress incident to include with high stress driving and believe this is what has avoided any crashes to occur while i am in control of the vehicle. i believe someone may over react or not know how to react to this situation and may become involved in a serious crash causing serious bodily harm or possibly death without a immediate recall on this problem. which again dodge is well aware of the design/manufacturer's defect. any assistance in recalling this defect immediately would be greatly appreciated on my behave, but without immediately recall could cause someone to become injured or a loss of life. any questions feel free to contact me. *tr

My car was recalled for the cooling fans letting my car overheat. the dealer replaces the fans and the asks if i want him to fix my overheating issue. i thought that was why my cooling fans were the issue. it stopped overheating for a month maybe at most the i had to have a new radiator, t-stat, and water pump. within a couple weeks on my way to my doctor the temperature gauge dropped to 140 and died. i started it up and it has a quick knocking noise that seem to tick too quickly to be a rod plus the car doesn't die. i turned it off after hearing the knocking and had it towed home. now my brother is letting me drive his car and mine is a yard ornament. *tr

I bought my 2006 dodge charger r/t brand new in june of 2006. i always filled the tank with gas until the pump automatically shutoff. i never topped off with gas or continued filling the tank once the pump would automatically stop. this was never a problem for 5 years. last year in october of 2011 at around 73,000 miles the car would stall and turn off the engine occasionally right after filling up in live traffic usually at a stop light or parking lot driveway. i would have to put the transmission shifter from drive to park since the vehicle shut off and restart the car with no problem. today at 75,600 miles on march 27, 2012; i filled up as usual and the car engine turned off in traffic on 3 different occasions. i read on chrysler owners' forums online this is a common problem with plenty of chrysler vehicles and chrysler is aware of it. the fix is a whole new fuel tank with a better fuel vapor valve and the cost would run $1300-$2000 for various car, van, and truck owners. the only other method i was advised by a dodge service advisor was not to fill the car up all the way, perhaps to 3/4 of a tank full. this is dangerous for any driver when a car engine stops, steering locks, and there is traffic behind you. some drivers will not know how to react in this situation. chrysler should offer a recall to fix this problem with the gas tank instead of charging the owner. *tr

The engine stalls after i fill the fuel tank and leave the gas station . usually this occurs within a block or so after leaving the gas station and it continues for several miles of driving. i do not 'top off' the tank, and i have mindful lately to not even fill up all the way if possible. this issue has caused several 'near accidents' when the vehicle stalls in the lanes of traffic. it causes me to be extremely cautious after filling up. i do not trust that i can any longer drive with other traffic after filling up, forcing me to drive on side roads/access roads for several minutes to minimize the possibility of an accident, in the event the engine stalls. i understand that this is a problem with the ventilation valve in the fuel tank and the only way to correct this issue is to have the fuel tank replaced. *tr

Car has repeatedly stalled after filling up the car with gas. car stalls in traffic with no warning. takes about 10 miles on the odometer until it clears up. there are many others with this problem. it is documented on the internet from other people having the exact same problem. *tr

This problem has occurred during the last two fill ups. the cars engine will rev up and then start to run rough and then eventually stall. once car is restarted it seems to run fine. then will driving down the road and coming to a stop the engine will rev up and car will jump forward. it may run rough or stall you just never know. this all continues to happen until the gas level in the tank drops down some after driving for a couple of days or if the gas cap is left loose. what is happening is the evap vent on the fuel tank deteriorates and eventually allows fuel to pass threw it into the purge solenoid and then into the intake on the motor. this extra fuel being dumped into the motor causes it to rev up and jerk forward when this occurs. so every time the evap purge solenoid comes on it will suck gas into the motor instead of vapors. this extra fuel is like hitting the gas pedal each time. leaving the cap loose won't let the system seal and work as designed, it's a crutch to avoid the problem. each time this has occurred with my car i removed the purge solenoid and poured gas out of it. there should never be gas in these purge solenoids. the only fix is a fuel tank replacement at over $600.00 for the tank alone. one day i'm afraid i'll run into something or somebody when this engine revs up and jumps forward. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle stalled while driving at unknown speeds. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was found that the fuel tank and sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 46,237. *tr updated 05/28/13*lj updated 06/11/2013 *js

After fueling the vehicle it stalls and shuts off. this has happen several times and i have had the evap replaced but the problem till remains. this is a very serious safety issue and someone will get seriously injured and even killed if this does not get fixed. everyone that owns a charger like this, life hangs in the balance if they continue to drive it.. please help get dodge to do a recall. lives over profits please!!!!!!! *tr

After filling up the gas tank, within minutes i was turning left in an intersection when the engine stopped and the steering became very difficult and an accident was barely avoided. this was extremely dangerous because of oncoming traffic. in fact i was almost struck by two vehicles, one coming at me and the other behind me. i restarted the car, drove through the intersection for about 5-10 seconds and the car stopped again, same steering difficulties. started the car a third time and it moved forward with no more stops. this has happened at least 20 more time in the past 3 years. additionally, within the past 6 months, it has been very difficult to put fuel into the tank. it would take about 20 minutes because the nozzle would shut off. i could only put in very small amounts each squeeze of the handle. i find this not only annoying but also question the design of the whole fuel receiving and storage system of this vehicle. i have asked my local dodge dealership about the problems and was advised that a new gas tank would have to be installed for approximately $1,200! a new gas tank? that would confirm in my mind that these problems are caused absolutely by a design flaw and should be recalled and repaired asap before there are fatalities linked to this flaw.

I had a 2006 charger (recently sold) with the well documented stalling issues after filling up the fuel tank. the first time the car died i was in the middle of a very busy intersection. i managed to get the car to a nearby parking lot after 2 additional stalls. i took the car to a dodge dealer who could not reproduce the problem & sold me a new gas cap. gas cap did not fix the problem. for the next 18 months i could only fill the tank 3/4 full to enable me to use my car safely. i replaced the fuel tank and other components in 2012 to the tune of $1.8k. now chrysler/dodge tells me that even though my charger fits all the criteria for the lifetime warranty, my car is not eligible for the warranty. i will not be reimbursed now and possibly not ever, all because of a letter behind the 3 digit sales code. none of the documentation i received when i bought the car contains the sales code so i have to recourse to prove me right and them wrong. *tr

Car engine stalls and die every time i fill up the fuel tank, dealer is telling me something bad with the rollover valve in the gas tank and they are charging me $1600 for the repair. i found on the internet forums a lot of people having the same issues. :-( *tr

Charger r/t. moderate to strong odor of raw gasoline when car comes to a stop. intermittent but occurs more than 90% of the time. started in oct 2010;still occurring. usually worse the colder it is outside;after driving several hrs.& making an abrupt stop; & w/ 1/2 to 3/4 tank of gas. but, it has occurred when in the 50s outside;driving 20 ft. from driveway into garage and shutting off the engine, after car has sat for several hours without the engine running; and with a full tank or 1/4 or less of gas. has occurred a couple of times upon acceleration, but almost always occurs when the car comes to a stop.the one time i smelled it the strongest though was after i backed into a parking space. i had been in another space with the engine off for about 30 minutes. i started the car and backed into a space further down in the lot, shut the engine off, and the odor of raw gas was very strong and seemed to be right underneath the driver's door when i opened it. passengers in car have also smelled it. myself and 2 other people have inspected the vehicle under the hood, and underneath while it was on a lift, but could not locate any leaks, broken or cracked hoses, etc. i took it to a dodge dealership on 2/8/11 and they could not find the cause of it either. however, it never occurred on the way to the dealer. it was in the 20s that morning and i had between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank of gas; normally "ideal" conditions under which it occurs. problem did not occur until later that morning after leaving the dealership. i advised the dealership service adviser of all of the circumstances under which it occurs, on a typed document which i gave to him. my main concern is that since it is the gasoline fumes that are combustible, that it will eventually cause a fire. also, there are about a dozen other dodge charger owners who belong to a charger owners' web site, www.chargerforums.com, who have posted the same complaint and neither they nor dealerships have found a cause for it either. *tr
