We have classified the 161 complaints from 2006 Dodge Charger about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Turning onto on-ramp of a highway i was moving about 20 miles an hour when the engine died and i lost power steering. additionally, i felt a very tough transmission shift 2-3 seconds before i lost power steering and when the engine died. the car took multiple attempts to turn over. a very loud whirring noise began in the engine/transmission area and is yet to stop.
Drivetrain problems making noise is there a recall need help sometimes when i drive it kicks the gear
I have a 2006 dodge charger that randomly dies when i'm driving on the highway in town at slow speeds turning corners or sitting still in park it's died on me several times when people have had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the side of me and it happens no matter what gear its in or what the rpm is at i've replace the ecm the tcm alternator battery and everything i've looked up about it online nobody has a definite fix but the problem exists in a lot of 2006 dodge chargers, and it almost always gives me one of two codes one is loss of communication with the ecm and the other is loss of communication with the tcm and then there's other times that it gives no code

My 2006 dodge charger rt will not shift out of park. this is a well known problem with 2006 chargers and "some" 2006 models are covered under a recall "k39." it seems like my 2006 charger is one of the 2006 chargers that isn't covered for some reason. i checked my vin on your website and the recall doesn't show. this happened in my driveway. any help would be appreciated. thanks
While driving the car loses power and slows down, the engine is running rough and when pulled over the side of the road, the car will not move at all. the shifter will move through the gears however the car will not move(automatic transmission). after turning the vehicle off and restarting the car runs normal until the next episode( occurred the last 3 times car has been driven). this is hazardous especially in traffic. currently setting up appointment with dodge dealership to address problem however no caution light is appearing on the dash. this malfunction happens at any speed on highway or city street.

Cannot shift vehicle out of park.
My car will not accelerate over 40mph. i went to the mechanics and it said that the transmission computer isn't functioning correctly. i looked up this issue online and this is an ongoing issue with these cars. i contacted dodge they said since there is no recall then they can't do anything.
Two years ago i had to replace the engine while driving the car all the lights came on and it lost power while driving at approximately 40 mph. yesterday while on the highway going 65 mph the car lost power. this is very unsafe especially on the highway.
Gear shifter frozen in park, release button did not work had to have car towed on flat bed air bag light still on even after air bag recall
Transmission stuck in park, safety release switch does nothing
Vehicle was parked in drivieway, partially blocking in other vehicles in garage, and automatic transmission shifter could not be moved out of park on the morning of 6/29/17, stranding vehicle from being moved by owner. i then looked online using google search and found problem listed under chrysler recall of some 2005-2007 charger/magnum/300 models, and found instructions on how to temporarily insert screwdriver into side of transmission shift lever assembly by removing one piece of trim, and was able to then drive over to darcars chrysler/jeep/dodge rockville, maryland dealership to drop for recall repair. i left vehicle and then was told by service dept staff next day on 6/30/17 that my vin number was not part of recall, and would cost me $510 out of pocket to replace the entire transmission shifter assembly rather than replace the small cheap plastic known chrysler defect that has probably already happened to thousands of chargers/magnums/300s. lucky for me this did not happen in an emergency situaiton where i needed to move my car immediately to go to hospital, or avoid a flash fllood, hurricane, or tornado or the problem could have resulted in a total loss of the vehicle and possible injury or loss of life. in addition, i did more research and found the $16 part online needed to fix the problem, along with many videos on how to fix it yourself, and ordered it on 6/30/17 and had the car repaired myself at home on 7/2/17 a few hours after receiving the part in the mail. chrysler should make this a recall for all affectred vehicles because the cost to repair it in parts and labor is very cheap, since i estimate they could do the same job in about 30 minutes and the part would only cost them maybe under $5. see attached recall and $16 part cost when ordered on amazon.
1. after filling the tank the car is subject to engine shutting off periodically. 2. car is stuck in park and cannot be gotten out of park
takata recall bought my 2006 dodge charger last march had it for 3 days the engine blew. replaced the engine with a v6 2008 2.7 with only 57000 . about 6 months after started to get the lightning bolt .then stalling with the lightning bolt while driving 55mph on the highway and in the city it also does it at stop signs and sometimes wont start back right away.. i have no codes no check engine light no warning. my dash lights and head lights flicker especially while driving. we tried everything to fix this i'm very scared to drive my car anywheres.. please help figure out whats going on with these problems. we already replaced the computer, gas pedal, sensors and the engine. mileage on the body 260000 on the second engine 63000.
My 2006 dodge charger hemi police interceptor i purchased from the state of oregon at 137,000 randomly dies. the lightning bolt warning light comes on. the electronic throttle control code comes on. the car has been to the dealer and the pcm $750 has been replaced and the plugs $350 have been replaced as well. i also get tcm codes. my car has died at very dangerous times, when passing or merging into traffic. the dealer doesn't know what's causing it.

Takata recall the suspension is shot. i am having to replace the my tires due to the bushings being junk and have ate my tires away on the inside down to the metal due to the toe positioning being incorrect. the control arms have been changed, but i am in fear the rear camber may be completely out. also, sometimes my car does not want to turn over, but yet the battery, starter and alternator are fine. also, my electrical system is a mess. i can't roll down my window unless i shut off my air or heat. then when i turn on my air or heat all my interior lights go out. plus, sometimes my tachometer doesn't want to work. i have replaced the engine and transmission, it is always maintained, but yet i feel like i am about to have to dump thousands of dollars into this cheaply made suspension. i have seen several charger owners of the same year stating they have had these issues and if a recall can not be done then a class action lawsuit should be put into motion. i'm hoping dodge will give us a chance to keep their customers, because at this morning i am ready to give up. i have always been a dodge fan, but this time, on my favorite looking car, you all have dropped the ball!
The last time i filled up my car, it kept stalling and i would lose power steering and brakes while in traffic with my children in car. not very safe feeling. scared i was going to get hit with family in car. it would start up but it would keep stalling until i ran a few gallons out of it. i filled it up again today and noticed a sucking noise coming from gas tank. it started up then stalled as i took off. so i pulled over and kept starting it up every time it stalled. after about an hour of not stalling i drove home and parked in garage. it would stall going straight and turning.
The dodger charger rt has been the worse vehicle i have ever paid for. my charger is only at 80,000 miles and the charger has been maintained properly. the transmission has issues with going over 50 mph and the engine now knocks. i am just siting here trying to figure out how a vehicle at 80,000 have this many issues.
2006 dodge charges with 5.7 hemi v8 - experiencing random stalling. happens at any speed. everything shuts off including the power steering and abs. first happened while merging onto freeway and i had to drive off the road to avoid a semi-truck. this happened with my young child in the vehicle. i had the gas tank, fuel canister, and purge valve replaced. the problem still occurs regardless of the amount of gas in the vehicle and regardless of when it was refueled. even though this appears to be a common problem the dealership has been no help and even tried charging me for unnecessary diagnostics. car does not flash a code so after replacing what was supposed to fix the issue, driving the vehicle is the only way to find out if it is fixed. this has lead to a few dangerous close calls. please look into this issue before people get hurt because this is a serious problem. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Car will not shift out of park when pressing the break without pressing the pink switch inside the gear shift. similar recall on other cars, but not my vin. have to drive with the gear shift apart so i can shift out of park. the pink switch is broken. $400 repair required. just lucky it broke in the driveway and not when my family was on a trip 2 hours from home.

The car will shut off randomly, the error code keeps pointing back to the ecm and i have had that replaced now it is doing it again and there is no warning when it happens on the freeway it jolts like it wants to shutoff but it doesn't the rpm's go down and it revs back up, it started just with it having the rpm's go down and rev back up randomly and its been happening for 2 years now it just shuts off and starts back up immediately but sometimes ill drive a couple feet and it will die again. it has been in and out of the shop for the last 8 months. they have sent the computer back to have it analysed and to repair the new one i got now. when driving it also shuts off and then just starts up back by itself. i see this everywhere on the internet and forums, some say ecm needs to be replaced other say the fuel tank and the other says something about the key fob not recognizing the key. i want this investigated and a recall to be issued. from everyone i have spoken to every single 2006 dodge charger has this problem with the 5.7 lt with the hemi.

I was leaving a store and started my car. everything seemed normal, but the car would not shift out of park. i had to leave the car and came home and found a multitude of information on this problem with this particular model car. i also found out how to take the console apart to get in and shift the car without the shifting lever, so i was able to get it home and drive it to the dealership. the dealership told me that this vin is not included in the recall for this exact problem for "certain 2005-2007 dodge chargers, magnums, and 300s." i had them repair it for $155. the dealership shared with me that they service 4-5 vehicles a week with this identical problem that were not included in the recall for this problem. that is in greensboro nc, which is not a super-large market but is not a tiny market either. i would like for someone to explain to me in detail why my specific car was not included in the recall.

The transmission gear shift lever interlock return spring hook broke. a broken interlock return spring hook resulted in the inability to move the gear shift lever out of the park position. same as chrysler satisfaction notification k39. i was told this didn't apply to my car. it's the same problem and is a safety issue.
While driving on the highway in traffic at approximately 70 mph the car stalled with no check engine light or engine misfire/stuttering. the stall was as if the key was turned to the off position. the car coasted to the side of the road, restart was attempted and the car started perfectly, i continued to drive. the car stalled again after a few miles, restarted and it stalled again - this continued, each time with the time driven being less. all this time the check engine light did not illuminate. i finally made it to a shop where the car was diagnosed and the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor was replaced. this did not solve the stalling issue. the car will have the pcm replaced in hope that this will solve the problem. this is a very unsafe failure especially when traveling at high speeds - the car loses all power and is very difficult to move into the shoulder when it stalls (no power steering). this is a very serious safety concern that can be catastrophic.

I am the original owner of this vehicle, and have regularly maintained it and performed all the scheduled maintenance at the manufacturer's suggested intervals. the vehicle operated normally, with no indications of any issues. on 8/12/14, i went to start my vehicle and it made a horrendous banging noise before immediately shutting down. i had to have the car towed home (as i was thirty miles away) and discovered the engine valve in piston #2 had broken and shattered, causing an engine failure, with the only repair being a complete engine rebuild or replacement. a check on-line showed this is a common and recurring issue with this model and engine type (2006 dodge charger r/t). i reported the issue to dodge, and was told there are no known issues with the engine of valves, however the dodge technician at the dealership said it is a common problem and should have been recalled. the evidence to this is the engine parts needed to fix this (block, valves, etc.) are on a 2 to 6 month back-order. please help! i can not afford to basically pay for a new car for a known issue that should have been prevented by the manufacturer. *tr
