Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated when attempted to shift out of park gear, the gear shifter failed to function. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test which indicated that the failure was located in the transmission gear shift. the dealer replaced the internal gear shifter assembly. the manufacturer would not assist with the repair because the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 08v583000, power train: automatic transmission: lever and linkage: column shift. the failure and the current miles were 72,964. updated 07/20/11*lj the dealer found the shifter assembly came apart internally. updated 02/03/12

The column shift would not move. the engine started fine, however the car would not come out of park. i noted that there was a recall on the 2006 dodge charger for power train automatic transmission:lever and linkage column shift, although i have a 2006 dodge charger with the same problems i was informed by dodge that my vehicle was not a part of the recall. i believe that my vehicle should be included in the recall because it has the same exact problem as described above and my vehicle is the same year, make and model as the recall. *tr

2006 charger will not shift out of park. apparent interlock failure, resulting in broken plastic piece. based on internet search found that chrysler issued a customer satisfaction notification k39, which only covered certain vehicles. it appears to be a very broad defect. *tr

april 6th 2011:after leaving work & getting into my 2006 dodge charger sxt, which was parked in the employee parking lot,i started the vehicle & stepped on the brake to engage the shifter, unfortunately the car would not go into the drive position. after many attempts to shift the vehicle into drive, even doing the bypass method as stated in the owners manual,it still would not engage, finally i called road side service & had the car towed to a nearby dodge dealership which had informed me that the shifter had to be replaced. i was working out of state @ the time, staying in a motel so this added expense really stretched my budget:$461.04 out of pocket!! *tr

My 2006 dodge charger got stuck in park position. i had to pay almost $500 (not to mention towing expense). now i'm looking at this site and see many, many other with the same complaint. why isn't this a recall??? *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger and the rocker arm broke. *tr

I just read an article on yahoo stating an investigation in the 2006 dodge charger engine stalling. for 2 years i had this problem and it was inadvertent but dangerous, especially when driving interstate speeds. the engine would stall out, almost like you turned the key off and then back on. it almost cost me a wreck on the interstate. it would also do it at idle speeds but at that rpm it would kill the engine. i took it to the dealership on numerous occasions and because the problem was intermittent they were unable to diagnose it. when it finally got worse, i was told it needed new plugs. i changed them and it didn't fix the problem. then they changed all 8 coils and it didn't fix the problem. finally as a last resort they replaced the computer and it fixed the problem. this whole process cost me about $4,000. a month and a half later the transmission started dragging and not shifting properly, so instead of going through the same process again i decided to get rid of the car. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger (hemi)the car wont' shift out of park. i can crank it and all but when i go to move it into gear . nothing . it's stuck. if this happens really often and the cheap piece of plastic is an issue this should be considered as a recall and to make a better stronger proper part other than a plastic milk top piece that can keep a 20,000 dollar car from functioning. please help. this has occurred twice to me at $370 the first time and $150 the second time . this is ridiculous and darn sure costly for the same part. parts replaced was a simple pink plastic. well i be d....(darn). ;-( i am sooooo not happy. *tr

2006 dodge charger is stuck in park. pink emergency release described in the manuel does not work to resolve the problem. while researching a possible fix i noticed that this is a common defect even on newer chargers. i believe that paying for a repair that is so common and uncontrollable is senseless.

2006 dodge charger was driving fine yesterday, parked the car, next morning went to start car and started but would not move out of park. towed car to dealer and found shifter assembly had a broken part - for a part to break while being parked and after doing research it is a common complaint for the dodge charger, what happens if this breaks while you are driving? big safety issue then. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge r/t daytona charger. it has 48,000 miles on it and has given me very few problems . i tried to put into reverse to back it out of the garage and it would not come out of park. i tried various things as described in the owners manual and by the mechanics at the dealership, but it would not budge. the car had to be towed to the dealership for repairs. (shifter replacement). everyone i have delt with seems to know of these problems as it seems to be a common occurrence in 2005 and newer dodge vehicles with an automatic transmission and a floor shifter. i wonder why there hasn't been a recall. could it be that they charge over $300 to perform a 45 minute job to replace a $60 part? *tr

2006 dodge charger is stuck in park. while researching a possible fix i noticed that this is a common defect even on newer chargers. i believe that this should be looked in to, as we the consumer are paying for repairs that dodge obviously knows is a trending problem. *tr

Vehicle shifter stuck in park. driver stranded on rural secondary road at night. problem has occurred once to me. upon researching the matter further, this problem is the most common problem with this and other models with the same shifter and has occurred thousands of times. vehicle towed to nearest dealer and repaired for $312.00. have possession of old parts. *tr

No problems up to the point of failure. i have 42,000 miles on dodge charger. when i got in car two days ago, the gear would not come out of park. when i called the dealer, i didn't have to finish describing the problem, she told me that ths gear shifter had seized and what the price was to fix it. it was obviously a common problem. when i googled the problem, there were so many hits, i knew it had to be a recall item but it is not. also, the tow service said he was certain there was a recall based on the number of chargers he picks up with the same problem. i haven't been able to find a recall for this item but based on the number of failures, it appears there should be. the dealer has replaced the gear shifter. *tr

A plastic part inside the gear shift broke off and then could not move gear shift out of park. the whole gear shift had to be replaced. *tr

My complaint is about the charger 2006 model there are vast number of chargers that have a problem with the gear shifter on the floor being stuck in park and will not release it has been a known fact of dodge cars are being brought in daily to landmark dodge in georgia and nobody has indicated to the top that its a problem needs to be address soon as possible. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated the gear shift selector would not shift out of the park position. the vehicle was towed to the contact's place of residence. the dealer was contacted who advised there was a lever in the shifter box that potentially fractured and caused the failure. the dealer advised that the entire gear shift would need to be replaced at the contact's expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were approximately 103,000.

My 2006 dodge charge keeps getting stuck in park and the pink release does not work either, i have to slide a steel wire all the way to the left in order to get it to give. there are a million forums and complaints based off of this exact issue and yet no recall because its not a safety issue? maybe not but it is obviously defective. my warranty is up and cant afford to fix the issue so i have to do this everytime i get into my car. how many complaints and forums need to go up before they make a recall for the defective part? *tr

My 2006 dodge charger was stuck in park and would not shift. the dealer is telling me they have had many issues with the shifter and are wanting to charge me $400 to fix it. the employees at the towing company also advised they have seen many problems with it. in researching it, i found it is a flimsy pink piece called the park lock out mechanism, which costs $49.99 to replace. if there have been this many issues, it should be recalled. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the gear shift became stuck in the park position. the contact stated that if he stuck a pen in the shaft and moved the wire over, the shift would release. the contact spoke with the dealer who stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 08v583000 (power train: automatic transmission: lever and linkage: column shift). the current and failure mileages were approximately 24,500. updated 10/27/10.*lj

Approximately around may 2010 the vehicle began randomly stalling. when it first began it was very infrequent, about once every 25 days, but it progressively got worse and worse. it is now at the point where it will stall every 5 to 15 minutes. the vehicle stalls when slowing/approaching a stop or stopped or when doing low speed maneuvering. it will occasionally stall when accelerating from a stopped position as well. the electronic throttle control light comes on when it stalls. the vehicle will generally restart without much problem. the symptoms are identical to the symptoms descibed involving the 2005 dodge durango (nhtsa defect investigation #ea05018 and investigation #pe05027).

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. in april 2010, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership because the gear shifter locked in the park position . the dealer replaced the gear shifter but after the repair, the vehicle began to shut off suddenly while the contact was driving at any speed. the check engine light illuminated before the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership numerous times. the contact called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealership. a engineer sent by the manufacturer advised the dealer to replace the transmission shifter, spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and transmission sensor. after the repairs were performed, the failure continued . the failure mileage was approximately 52,000. the current mileage was 54,567.

The problem with my car usually happens when i am entering an express-way for example or passing another car, and consequently having to accelerate rapidly, but then if i take my foot off the gas, say, to slow down or step on the breaks, the car will stall, and this is every time. i am not talking here of a suituation of "red-lining", just every-day normal driving. if i am accelerating, say in the 3000 rpm range, and then take my foot off the gas for whatever reason, the car will jerk and basically the transmission will disengage from the engine speed. when this happens, i get no response from the accelerator. the engine will still be running and every thing else will be ok, except accelerating. usually, when i get no response from the accelerator, i let the car coast until the speed is somewhere about 20 mph and the transmission will re-engage and i can proceed. the problem i am describing has been happening since the car was new. i have talked with the service rep at a local dodge dealership and he of cause down-plays the problem, but its only a matter of time before another car will slams into my vehicle, because my car stalls on the highway expecially a portion of the road that may not have a pull-off sholder. i hope you can take this complaint seriously. i know a lot about cars and i can say with some degree of certaintly that my car has a defective transmission. it is not normal for a transmission to cease reaponding simply because a driver takes their foot off the gas in the mist of a hard acceleration. *cn

The vehicle is a 2006 dodge charger with about 35,000 miles. it was in regular use as a police car. the engine stalls out at random intervals both when the car is parked and when the car is moving. it is a serious safety hazard for a police officer driving an emergency vehicle to have the car suddenly lose power and stall. the car has been out of service for several months. it has been at the local dodge dealership for repairs at least six times with no improvement. *tr

Brakes have locked up x3. vehicle almost skidded into the back of another vehicle @ 40mph. afraid to drive vehicle. had it checked out by dealership & repair shop, nothing wrong. repair shop did note brake squeak and vehicle shaking even at low mph during test drive- he had just put new rotor and brake pads less than 3mnths ago! vehicle also has a noticeable 'kick' or 'jarring' when driving- even at 5-10mph in parking lot when accelerator pedal is not even pressed. i am very afraid to drive this car especially w/my child. this is my only vehicle and as a single mother and educator -safety, security, and reliability is important. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger. when i first bought it, i had to take it back to the dealer 13 separate times for issues. they were never resolved fully. the dealer actually broke the window controls on the drivers side in front of me, and tried to tell me it was already like that.... luckily, he was seen, and was dealt with. the newest issue, which i see via online research a lot of people are having is the shift kit. the park lock mechanism broke, and i could not get it out of park. we've removed the console, and every day, i have to push the broken piece of plastic down in order to get the car in gear. the dealer wants $450 to fix this, and i will not pay it. hundreds of complaints have been filed. no action has been taken. the piece that broke is a pathetic bright pink piece of plastic that is as cheap as a toy from the dollar store, and i am not exaggerating. it's pathetic. it's unsafe, it's not right, and something needs to be done. asap. i cannot believe that no one has issued a recall or safety call on this. there are several very reputable websites that sell the cheap piece that's broken because hundreds and hundreds of people are reporting this broken. something is very wrong here. funny'the piece i'm referring to costs $49.99 to replace, and is made out of metal. dodge replaces it with the same plastic, which breaks a year later. and, they charge $450 to do it, as they replace the entire shift kit. sad. i've contacted the website several times, and they provided a lot of help. dodge; none. *tr

While the contact was attempting to drive the vehicle he noticed that the gear shift would not move out of the park position which didnt allow the contact to drive the vehicle. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership and the contact did not notice any differences beforehand. the current and failure mileage is 102724. bml

Dodge charger. rotor/brake trouble. squeaking during 5-15mph, and violent vehicle shaking when stopping during 30+mph. *tr

Please help me prevent accidents and/or fatalities that will result from chrysler's refusal to address a dangerous situation. recently my 2006 dodge charger began stalling, numerous time, with the steering locking sometimes at a high rate of speed on a busy highway. a potentially disastrous situation for everyone on the road. my car's been towed to the dealer three times and the problem remains a mystery to the technicians. they've changed the powertrain control module (pcm), with no change. the car continues to intermittently register 'lost comm with the pcm' diagnostic trouble codes. at times the car performs flawless, and other times it stalls and won't restart sometimes for days. after much research i have found that this is a recurring problem with chargers, old and new, and one that many other owners suffer. a chrysler rep told me they were aware of a stall problem, but said that since they don't know the exact cause, there is nothing they will do unless the customer pays for expensive and experimental diagnoses. why is it up to the consumer to find a known problem that could kill motorists? when do they intend to address it? after a family is wiped out? this is a disaster waiting to happen. and a preventable one if we can convince chrysler to address the problem and affect a recall to fix it. chrysler's disregard for the american consumer at the very least, and toward the public at large at most, is alarming. i cannot fathom how an american corporation these days can so brashly turn a blind eye to a known and potentially dangerous situation. while coverup might be a strong word to apply this early in the game, lets not let it get to that point. please help me fix this. thank you again for your time, and keep fighting the good fight. *tr

I have a 2006 charger r/t with approx 80k miles. i went into the dealer for an oil change and they said my transmission was leaking. i asked if it was serious and the advisor told me it happens "all the time" on chargers like mine. what makes it worse is that there is no dipstick to monitor your transmission fluid level. it seems a little odd that a seal would wear out in less than 3 years. chrysler should recall this for safety reasons. *tr

Repeated issues with 2006 dodge charger. vibration in front end causes rippling damage to tires, requiring new tires 3 x in 40,000 miles. dealer says its not an issue, but tire stores say they see a lot of dodge chargers with this problem. dodge dealer is refusing to acknowledge problem is not consumer caused. *tr

i received a safety recall for my state highway patrol car. when i took it to my local dealer they would not work on it and stated they didn't know anything about it. 2 of my other partners had the same problem with the same dealership. i contacted another dealership 50 miles away and they had the recall fixed the next day. my other 2 partners went to this dealership 50 miles away and had the recall fixed quickly also. this local dealership also has not performed 1 other bulletin on this same patrol car which resulted in the item being fixed by a dealership in another state. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving in the fall of 2008, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and slowed down when he depressed the brake pedal. he took the vehicle to the dealership but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. on another occasion while driving, he tried to stop at a traffic light yet the brakes did not respond; instead the vehicle began to accelerate. he pulled the vehicle to the right and continued to press on the brake pedal and after several attempts the vehicle stopped. he took the vehicle to the dealership and expressed his concerns. once again, the dealer could not find the cause. he has not called the manufacturer to-date. the vehicle has not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was approximately 44,500. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000. updated 03/01/10 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle would go n o faster than 10 mph. updated 09/02/10

I have a 2006 dodge charger, purchased in cleveland oh in october/november 2005. i had issues with my vehicle starting in the beginning of 2006. i initially noticed that my transmission clutch was slipping and that my vehicle would not shift into gear. i took the vehicle into the dealership in september 2006 o find that the transmission clip had to be replaced. then another issue, that has yet to be resolved, began to emerge in early 2007. i noticed that the vehicle would rumble as if was preparing to shut off, usually when i was coming to a stop. additionally, my vehicle would at times seem to be stuck in idle when i was trying to accelerate. my vehicle has been in the dealership repair shop 5 different times for this issue. i was told twice that the computer chip needed to be reprogrammed. two other times i was told the issue was related to brake issues and that my brakes needed to be replaced. i am filing this complaint because my vehicle is currently not under warranty, meaning a service charge everytime i take it in, and once again the issue has gone to the point where i need to take it one more time. i have contacted the manufacturer twice on this issue, once in 2007 and again recently, to no resolve. i have talked to one other charger (2007)owner who indicated they have a similar issue. the issue only occurs periodically, but prevents me from traveling long distances in my vehicle for fear of irreparable damage. i feel as my last option is to file this complaint. *tr

06 dodge charger with 33,000 miles. car has began to violently shake and engine light will begin blinking while almost stopped at a stop light or fully stopped. i have to shut the car off stopped at an intersection for a short time and then restart to get out of the intersection. i do not see how this can possible be safe for my passengers(3 & 7 yr old), myself or other cars. this has occurred 4 times since may 2008. the dealership has replaced oxygen sensor, flashed the powertrain control module (saying lost communication with steering control module), and on july 29th replaced the powertrain control module. had car back a few days and backed out of a parking space, put car in drive and pushing the accelerator did nothing. after a few seconds the accelerator worked & i moved about 10 feet. the car started shaking violently/engine light began blinking and i had to shut the car off. fortunately, no one was around me this time. when i restarted the car, the engine light stayed on constant(not blinking), which i have been told over & over by the dealership is safe to drive. i was able to drive the 2 miles home. took car into dealership again on aug 4, 2008. was told this time that there is a tsb & they have to order parts. but to pick it up until the parts come in that it is safe to drive. *tr the consumer was told the vehicle had an evaporation leak. there were times when the vehicle would not accelerate, the engine light and esp/bas light illuminated. the dealer then stated the cause of the problem was a multi-cylinder misfire at cylinders 2-4. updated 10/09/08. *jb

I have owned my 2006 dodge charger v6 3.5l ho, for almost 2 years now and in that time the car has had the same problems that the dealers can't fix or even know what to do. i would go to start the car and it would crank up, turn over then cut back off. it would do that about three times before starting after i turn the radio off. it has also had about a 30 second pause when starting the car, in which there would be no engine cranking, no noise... just the dashboard lights and nothing else. i had to turn the key three times before i got it to start. the absolute worst is the car idles down like it wants to shut off while stopped in everyday traffic not to mention the previous 2 i stated before, happens in spurts. its been back to the dealership several times and i was told that the computer was returning "no codes" so they don't know what the problem is. they have tested the battery, ignition and they were all fine. *tr

I was driving when my car seemed to stall and start back. the most scariest times are on the freeway. i've been in the fast lane and had it happens car stalls and kicks back on. i've taken my car to dodge dealers and they can't figure it out. i love my car but i'm really getting sick of them not fixing the problem. i'm having the same problem as everyone else so i'm not going to type it up in detail. but there is no reason why a car can stall itself and restart back up with no trace it ever happen. it's dangerous to the driver and passengers and incoming traffic. my car has been checked from the engine own and its showing nothing. my car is currently at chapman dodge chrysler and jeep and i got the call today saying its nothing showing wrong. it seems its electrical because when it happens it loses power and when i starts back on it has a kick to it. i'm just asking for it to be fix before someone gets killed. *tr

I purchased a 2006 dodge charger brand new in march 2006. ever since then there has been problems. i have taken the car to the local dodge dealership where the car was purchased. i had been experiencing problems with the brakes not stopping and squeaking and the fact that i could be accelerating up to about 20-30mph and the car would not go any further. the car is showing signs of transmission problems. these problems lead me to the dealership which was where the car was purchased. the service department said i needed brake pads and nothing else was wrong, which i got brake pads from a different business. the car still continues to do the same thing with the problems with the transmission and the brakes. i see there was no results with going to the dealer so i contacted the corporate chrysler customer assistance # and they advised me to take the car back for a diagnosis, i advised them that i previously done that and there was nothing found. they told me there was nothing they could do because the dealer would need to recognize the problem. *tr

My 2006 dodge charger started leaking transmission fluid. i took it to the dealership, where they told me the problem was some plug that goes into the transmission pan. the service advisor diagnosed the problem without even looking under the car, because he said there had other vehicles in for repair for the same problem. i dropped the car off the following monday for repair. the receipt states that they replaced an o-ring and bushings. it cost me a little over $153, not overly expensive for what could have been a major problem had the leak not been detected and more fluid lost. i checked in on a forum over the web and noticed other owners of the same vehicle having the same problem. i wanted to know why no recall has been filed for this. have there not been any other complaints concerning this? *tr

Just this past year i've had to get the transmission seal changed twice and now transmission fluid is leaking again. i've talked to other charger owners and it seems that this is an ongoing problem when the vehicle gets about 50,000 miles. *tr

My center console shifter of my 2006 dodge charger rt, has a malfunction. it will not let me out of park. when i try to release it with the manual override button, it will not release either. also when the vehicle is turned off and the car is still in gear, it will not allow the vehicle to go into park. this poses a larger problem if there is an accident and that part breaks. *tr

1.multi cylinder misfires, resulting in the inability to accelerate, rough idle and engine failure. 2. approximately every 4 to 6 weeks and 3 times over the last 2 weeks. 3. service to the vehicle 10 times, replacing shift module, valve keepers, combustion chamber cleaning (twice), cam seal, rocker arm, both exh., rocker rails and pedestals. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly decelerate and would not accelerate past 40 mph. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired but the defect had recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the failure mileage was 33,000.

Well yesterday evening. i was merging onto the interstate and all of a sudden the transmission slipped and the car was just revving while still in drive. if there were any oncoming traffic i could off gotten into an accident. i don't drive the car hard, definitely don't race. why would something happen like this? it is pretty much a brand new car which i keep up the scheduled maintenance. is there going to be a recall on this equipment because this could cause serious accident. i've read a few different forums on this vehicle and there are others that are having the same problem of the transmission slipping out of gear or hesitating to go into gear. so this isn't just a one time thing. i lost some of the pride in having this certain vehicle. from my knowledge the same transmission were offered in the older e class mercedes benz and they too had similar problem. *nm

Purchased july 14, 2006. it ran great with no problems until july 26. i went to take a left out of my company's parking lot and the car sputtered and would accelerate fast. i had to pull off on the left side of the road to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. i put it in neutral and gave it some gas. i attempted to go again when the traffic was clear and it sputtered more until i gave it a lot of gas and then it drove fine. i though it was an isolated incident so i drove it home. that night my wife, son and i took the car to the mall. upon leaving the mall it did it again and the engine light was on. the dealership was still open and close by so i drove it directly there. they gave me a loaner to drive while they attempted to fix it. on august 9, they gave the vehicle back to me. that night it did it again, except the vehicle actually died on me in the middle of traffic. the next day it was back to the dealer where is sat for 37 days while they tried to figure out what was wrong. they replaced all the oxygen sensors, the power control module, the wiring harnesses and i am sure there were some other things. they test drove it for 9 key cycles and 250 miles and were 98% confident they fixed it so i got the car back on september 15. the next day the same problem returned and i was 50 miles from home and this time the idling of the car was so rough that the car was visibly shaking. i had a friend follow me home and since it was a saturday night, the dealership was not open and would not be until monday. monday morning i started the car up and let it idle 5 minutes before leaving. when i got in, it was idling rough again and the engine light was flashing. i shut it down, called a tow truck and it is back at the dealership where it will stay because i am not taking it back. i have requested vehicle replacement from chrysler and the ...
