My 2006 dodge charger transmission shifter is stuck on the park position. when i contacted chrysler in regards to their customer satisfaction notification k39 transmission shifter interlock lever recall they stated that my car was not in recall but on the notification it states 2005 - 2007 dodge chargers where on recall for the shifter inter lock being stuck on the park position. i was told that only certain vin numbers where on recall & that although my car is experiencing the same problem with the same part its not on recall, but if my car was in that same time frame, has the same parts & is experiencing the same problem as the others that where on recall why is my car not on that recall & why i cannot get my car repaired? *tr

I bought my 2006 dodge charger 3.5l v6 new in may 2006. i absolutely loved this car until summer of 2009 just after my warranty expired, my gear shifter stuck in the park position and had to have it towed. i called dodge to see if there was a recall on this problem after reading about so many other people that had same issue. was told no, i paid to have it fixed somewhere around $450-500. on monday i had to have my car towed because it broke down on my way home from work. it sounded like the car was going to explode like in a cartoon. it was making knocking noises and sounded like a diesel truck. mechanic told me that my engine was shot. how could this be? my car has 67,716 miles on it!!! very low mileage for a 2006 vehicle. called dodge and asked if there was a recall on the engine problem. i read of many, many other people having this same issue. no recall, but if i can have it towed to an approved dodge dealer and get a diagnosis from their mechanic, call back. i was given a claim # from dodge hq. i have an insurance adjuster going out tomorrow morning to assess the damage and the problem. i am furious! i spent a lot of money on this car and it should last more than 67k miles! update from aug 5, 2014 update: 8/5/14 insurance told me that it is a known common issue with the dodge charger and because of this, there are not many recycled engines available or if they are found, it might have same issue as mine did. adjuster said that it was a pressure leak that only happens while driving causing the filter to expand and oil to leak. my engine is beyond repair! i called dodge hq again and was told that there are no recalls on my vehicle after checking my vin#. also told me they will not help me. they told me i can file a complaint with nhtsa. meanwhile i am taking the bus. not a happy camper! *tr

Column shifter will not go into park. shifts into other gears, but will not engage into park. car will roll if parking brake is not engaged, or switch into a different gear. chrysler stated that the recall is only vin# specific, but clearly it is effecting all 2006 chargers. *tr

2006 dodge charger. consumer writes in regards to faulty ignition switch. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle had a transmission leak, and it shuddered, the sun roof rattled and the side trim fell off. a former transmission specialist, informed the consumer, the condensation drain for the air condition dripped onto the transmission and pooled around the transmission filler tube. when the vehicle reached a 140,000 miles, it began emitting white smoke, to the point where the consumer was unable to see out of his rear view mirror. an inspection revealed the valve seat of the #3 cylinder had dropped out, smashing two large holes one on each side of the piston, the size of a quarter. there was also a hairline crack across the apex of the piston hole-to-hole, the debris had pummeled the cylinder head. also, debris from the damage had been sucked back into the inlet manifold depositing metal chunks into the #1 and #2 cylinders damaging the pistons and heads with small chunks of metal embedded in them. *jb updated 08/28/14

I was driving on the main road going around 45 mph. then my car stalls in the middle of the road as if i wasn't in drive. i continue to push the gas and make i was in drive and nothing happened. i tried to pull of the road but my car would not move. as i put the car in park the car continue to roll. i had to sit with my foot on the break until the tow truck came to tow my car. had my car worked on paid $1500 dollars and i'm still having the same problem the car want go in gear or it just stalls. so far i have had my car towed 6 times since june. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift from park to drive. the contact applied the overide button to no avail. the vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired by an authorized dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,693.

When driving @40mph, engine lost power, dash signaled 'ding', and throttle body warning light illuminated. it restarted as the car coasted. has repeated numerous times, including today, 3 times in less than 1 1/2 miles, at less than 20mph. no trouble codes scanned or displayed. symptom went away for 1 1/2 months after changing out spark plugs, as a dodge tech recommended. he also says the ignition coils deteriorate over time, and the internal shielding does not keep stray 'noise' from travelling into the engine controller, effectively resetting it, and showing no codes. having 8 factory coils to replace at $55 each is quite a gamble that may not fix the issue. aftermarket coils apparently do not fix this, either. i have tightened every electrical grounding point i can find on the car, unplugged/plugged numerous connectors to reseat them. this is a very dangerous safety issue, and it appears on '06 and some 07 chargers. if this happens and a collision occurs because of this, i will seek full legal remedy from fca(chrysler) as this is an obvious liability/safety issue. *tr

Transmission shifter interlock lever spring broke inside gearshift. car will not shift out of park. nhtsa website and phone call revealed that 2005-2007 avengers recalled for same exact issue, but not chargers. read over 200 complaints on nhtsa website and at least 80% of said complaints are same exact issue. an investigation should be opened about this. it is a very expensive fix for the owner, and not their fault. *tr

Cannot shift from park have tried so many things and doesn't work. i did some research and there was a recall for this so hopefully i don't have to pay out of pocket. *tr

My dodge charger will not shift out of park. some (not all) chargers have been recalled for this issue. upon searching online, it is a known problem and chrysler addressed some customers via chrysler customer satisfaction notification k39. it states that "some 2005 through 2007 model year dodge charger, magnum, and chrysler 300 equipped with a floor shifter" are affected. the transmission gear shift level interlock spring hook on your vehicle may break. a broken interlock return spring hook will result in the inability to move the gear shift lever out of the park position." this is a safety defect because if this vehicle was to stall and the driver put it into park to restart, the vehicle would be unable to go back into drive. it is a plastic piece that needs to be replaced but chrysler is charging $375 because the entire shift assembly needs to be taken apart to address. it is unfortunate that chrysler has recognized this defect on some chargers but will not cover the repair on my vehicle for the exact same issue. my car is the same year as some of the cars impacted by the recall. *tr

2 months ago i was leaving work and got in my car to go home. my car would not shift out of park. i had it towed to a dealer and was charged 1500 to repair!! after learning of all the go recalls, i've come across many people who have experienced the same problem. i also understand that some cars were recalled and some not, for the exact same issue! how is that even possible? i am requesting this issue be investigated and go to be held accountable! some are being told it wasn't recalled due to not being a safety issue??? how is it not a safety issue if you can't move your car? i could have been anywhere in an emergency situation where i had to leave. furthermore, even if it's not considered a safety issue, how is the consumer to be held liable for an obvious manufacturer defect?? please investigate this matter. *js

I was going down the high way and the car just shut off and then came back on like nothing happen they really need to recall this and it a hemi 5.7 daytona. *tr

Car will stall at idle or when starting to accelerate car will cut off by it self and then restart. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t with a 5.7 hemi. on several occasions, the engine has stalled when i was stopped at a stoplight. the car was in drive and stopped with my foot on the brake. after putting in into park, it would take several tries to get the engine started again. it also stalled once while coasting into my driveway. i was traveling at less than 5 mph with my foot on the brake. again it was hard to restart. *tr

Vehicle began to misfire and then stalled approximately 1/4 mile after filling fuel tank. this has happened multiple times and is occurring more frequently. this is a serious safety issue since vehicle stopped in the middle of an intersection and almost caused an accident. was able to restart the car and continue to destination. online forums attribute the cause to a faulty vapor purge valve/evap canister and requires fuel tank replacement. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that he was unable to shift from park. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they were not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 08v583000 (power train). the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Warmed up my car as i always did in the morning for 15 min pulled out of my driveway and proceeded to the down the street to the stop sign came to a complete stop and my car started to idle hard continued down the street at 35 mph and came to a complete stop at a stop light the car started to idle hard again then the red lighting bolt started to flash and car shut off. i put my car back in park and restarted the car proceeded for another file mile approached another stop light light and same thing hard idle and shut off. i took my car to four different dealerships no one knew what the problem was. one mechanic said that it could be throttle body so i had him remove it and clean it he also removed the cables to battery to reset it car work fine for three days no problem the on the fourth day did as i always did warm up car and take off car shut off at first stop light. i noticed that it didn't do it while it was warm out side this morning was really cold and same issue. *tr

My car has stalled 3 separate times right after i have re-fueled. when driving away from the gas station and onto the street it has sputtered and then turned off in the middle of the street. my vehicle will constantly turn off making it unsafe to drive it. i have once been in the middle of the intersection when my vehicle stalled, i am lucky i was not struck by another vehicle. but as you can see it is extremely dangerous having this happen when driving. *tr

My vehicle shuts off at random times. while i am sitting at a red light it will shut off or while i am waiting for the car to warm up. when i take off the engine will shut off for a brief second. the engine starts up and the car will jerk forward. sometimes when the vehicle shuts off it wont go back into gear and some of the gauges flash. i was left in the middle of an intersection twice when the vehicle shut off. i have taken the vehicle to transmission shops and dealerships and they can't tell me what is wrong with the vehicle. *tr

This vehicle has been flawless since purchased new in 2006. in nov. 2013 it stalled when backing out of the garage. restarted vehicle and was fine for 5 miles then stalled again. ever since then the problem has increased in frequency and almost caused multiple accidents due to the vehicle stalling when crossing intersections or merging onto highways. i have not driven this car in months due to this as it is not safe for me or other drivers on the road. i have spent close to $2,000.00 in multiple attempts to fix this vehicle following repair manual procedures via the dealer. i have had the pcm, replaced twice (first one was defective right out of the box), tcm replaced, battery replaced, throttle body replaced, map sensor replaced, asd relay replaced and spark plugs replaced with zero improvements. i used to enjoy this vehicle and now it is a death trap with the way it is behaving. something needs to be done as there are tens of thousands of these vehicles on the road exhibiting the same symptoms and dealer techs unable to properly diagnose and repair them. *tr

The gear shifter will not allow the car to shift out of park. *js

My shifter does not engage fully into park. while in park without stepping on brake my 2 year old was able to move to r-n-d. you have to pull shifter all the way to the left to remove key from steering column but shifter will not lock. *tr

I was coming to a stop at a red light. the car began to shake like it was a manual transmission and was stalling, the car is an automatic. we stopped at the stop light and realized the engine had shut off. i put the vehicle in park, removed the key, and attempted to restart. it attempted 3-4 times to restart with no luck. i exited the vehicle to endure the gas cap was on and it was. after waiting for about 1-2 minutes i attempted to restart and was successful. this was about 2 miles after filling up the tank. this seems very similar to the currently pending investigation. it has not happened since but i have not filled up the gas tank since either. *tr

Gear shift stuck in park car in garage aaa towing came out towed car and repaired $312.16 other 2006 chargers on recall list for this same issue this one needs to be also it is a special edition model so only 2000 made of these it's obvious by recall list this is an issue, why should i have to pay just because my car is a special model. *tr

Vehicle would not come out of park. had to have it towed to shop "pink" plastic "shift interlock latch" broke the shifter was replaced. *tr

Transmission shifter interlock lever return spring hook broke my 2006 dodge charger was in park overnight, went out to start vehicle, once vehicle was running, tried to take the gear out of park to drive and it would not release. turned car off, sat for 5 minutes, started car again, put foot on brake and tried to take gear out of park, it would not release. called mechanic and informed him of the situation, mechanic came to see vehicle and informed me that the shifter interlock lever spring hook was broken, that's why the gear shift would not come out of park. the mechanic informed me that it was going to happen to 2nd vehicle that i own (dodge magnum) as well, for he's had a lot of dodge vehicles with the same problem. *tr

Initially, after refueling my vehicle (2006 dodge charger r/t with 5.7l hemi) at a gas station, the engine would hesitate and stumble a mile or so later, and operate normally after a few moments. however, beginning within the last month, whenever i refuel at the gas station, the engine will hesitate and then stall.the obd does not illuminate the mil or register a dtc. the engine is then hard to restart, and once restarted and the transmission in drive, the vehicle will not begin to move immediately upon pressing on the accelerator, as if the transmission is in park or neutral. the stalling happens when pulling out of the gas station, when stopped and idling, and has happened when driving in traffic. this problem has resulted in several near collisions as the unexpected loss of power happens when pulling into traffic and while driving. this condition continues for several minutes and miles. i have gotten into the practice of refueling and driving straight home to park the car overnight, as it seems to drive better given time to sit after refueling. *tr

When i got into the car to leave work i could not get it out of park. i got a ride home and returned the next day and called the dodge dealership. they said they have had this happen numerous times and that it could happen anywhere. one of the mechanics had it happen when he stopped for fuel. the part cost $7 and the labor is $175. i feel i was fortunate that it did not happen while i had my infant grandkids with me and that it happened at work, so at least i was not stranded somewhere alone. evidently dodge is aware of the problem because the mechanic said they used to have to replace the whole shift mechanism and now dodge has come out with a cheaper part to fix it. it evidently doesn't have anything to do with the year because they said they have had it happen on brand new vehicles as well as older models. *tr

Car would not shift out of park - researched issue online to find this is a common problem with chrysler/dodge products that the shift interlock mechanism fails and the car becomes undriveable as it will not shift out of park. took apart shift console to manually move mechanism out of park and get it to the dealership for repair. dealer confirms shift interlock mechanism was at fault. contacted dodge - although there have been numerous recalls for this same issue with other dodge/chrysler models/years - the 2006 charger is not "officially on the recall list", so i had to pay for the faulty mechanism replacement out of pocket. *tr

Drove to a business and once placed in park, the gear shift became stuck. called aaa, they were going to tow it, then another driver showed up for aaa and knew just what to do. he takes apart the case that goes around the gear shift and presses on a pink colored emergency park release lever, ( why is that even an option??!!! ) it was obviously not attached to any thing as it fell down into the space around the shifter and still resides there. the discussion of towing it came up again, then we noticed a cable attached to the shifter and after playing with it have developed a system to unlatch it from park. you have to pull the cable to the left with a pen to disable the gear shift. today i took it to where i bought it and they told me there was a recall on this and to take it to the dodge dealership. the dodge dealership knew just what i was talking about, but denies a recall on this. i am scheduled to have it fixed monday the 12th. i don't feel i should have to keep paying for faulty equipment, this car has been a disaster since i bought it. the front end has been fixed about 4 times for vigorously shaking and a god awful rattling noise ( goes away for a short time then returns shortly after being fixed!!), numerous tires have been bought because that must be the problem too ( out of the mouths of the dealership), the tire pressure light stays on, the abs light system malfunctions and has left me with a no brake sensation on multiple occasions. i have always owned dodges, but next time i purchase a vehicle it wont be a dodge. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger 5.7 hemi i had just filled my car with gas completely full until the one click of the handle, replaced the fuel cap closed the fuel door and started the engine ran just fine, i make a left turn out of the gas station make it about 100 feet and it stalls i lose all power and it dies i was able to restart the engine but it continued to this for several days i was told it was the fuel pump so i replaced the pump and still had the same issues do i took it to the local dodge dealership after three days i was told it was possibly a bad coil pack but they could not tell me which one it was they replaced all plugs and one pack it now runs but not the way it should i looked up similar issues and kept coming across the same problem with other chargers of the same year that it was something to do with the gas tank. *tr

I purchased this 2006 dodge charger r/t from a dealership in woodland, ca immediately after leaving the lot i drove approx. 20 miles on my way home the car started stalling while i was driving on the freeway, i will be driving along and it will suddenly jerk and lose all power for a split second (if someone was riding my bumper it would have been an accident for sure) as it lost power the rpm gauge went all the way down and jumped back up as if the car died completely and restarted itself, it chimed even as if i had just started the car. i have researched this issue online and see its a very common problem to no avail. i took my car to the dealership in my hometown and they could not find the problem, said it was spark plugs etc i ended up spending $550 and its still stalling sometimes up to 15-20 times a day its very dangerous unfortunately the car is out of warranty and i cant afford to keep dishing money out to dodge. i seriously believe this is a common issue with dodge and chrysler vehicles as i've seen online very many people having this same problem but there's no solution as far as i can find! im kinda scared to drive the car like this but its my only means of transportation so this needs to be looked into!! its dangerous! *tr

I had some issues with my car stalling and getting stuck in gear, i was told by a mechanic to change the strainer which was supposed to be done there at his shop along with some body work. after getting my car back i drove it maybe 2 days before it completely just stopped going into gear. i can crank it up but the car will not budge. now today 5/12/2013 my brother showed me a button that is in the gear shift that you can push to get it out of gear. so i guess the problem is that the button that is supposed to pushed this in when you push the brakes down is no longer working. i was thinking transmission and that is not my problem. *tr

While waiting at stop lights, car idles fine. the moment the light turns green and i release the brake to step on the gas pedal the car stalls. this has happened up to 4 times in one day. happened only once today 3/6/2014.

I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7. at least once per day (and often much more often), during acceleration, car will go into "limp" mode, where the engine or transmission will stop producing power to the wheels. engine light will "ding" and rpm will drop from acceleration rpm down to about 2000 rpm and cause the car to hesitate, creating an especially dangerous situation on highway merging. car will come back on line after about 1-2 seconds, and run normally. the more i push the acceleration, the more likely to occur. also, car will simply stall at low speeds or while in idle. i bought the car about 30 days ago, and reported to the dealership immediately, and they duplicated the issue. they thought it could be a short, but after 3 hours labor (they covered this cost), did not correct it. they do not know what it is, and are next looking into a torque converter possibility, and also looking at the throttle body. not sure at this time if they will come good for the fix in the long term. this stalling loss of power and going into "limp mode" seems to be excessively common on these cars, according to blogs and dodge sites online. while the local dealership has been extremely helpful and great work with so far, this should fall on dodge itself, not the dealer, to make good for, as it seems to be a prevalent and dangerous issue. very dangerous situation, and dodge/chrysler should make this right for everyone. *tr

Shortly after filling the vehicle with fuel one day, it began to stall out when stopped. while traveling at highway speeds it seems to momentarily lose electrical and mechanical power, then a warning sound will chime and everything returns to normal... temporarily. however, while on a road trip and traveling at speeds over 70mph with cruise control on, we didn't experience any of these symptoms until we had to reduce our speed when approaching towns. also, the cruise control will shut off if it is being used when "power surge" happens and has to be manually reset. *tr

As i was driving across the desert on i-10 in arizona, all of a sudden my car lost all engine power. the lights on the dash chimed, my rpms dropped to zero, then just as suddenly they all went right back to normal and the engine jerked us forward as the tranny figured out what gear it belonged in. it started like that, only happening on occasion. now, i can't make it more than 1-2 miles (literally) without stalling out or losing engine fire. if it happens when i'm at a low mph the car just stalls out and died. no power steering or brakes, but the lights and radio are working. on the hwy at higher speeds, it lurches as described above. on the on-ramp, however, it becomes a life or death situation, especially when starting on a downhill ramp with a big rig wailing up behind me. i have been missed by truly only inches on multiple occasions. i can't afford a new car, they can't find what's wrong with mine, and i can't sell a vehicle that won't make it for a test drive. can we please get a fix? answers? wasn't it my tax dollars that bought this company out of bankruptcy? *tr

Took car to the dealership for tune-up;and transmission service on march13, 2013; on april 17, 2013 the car totally shutdown as i turned into the gas station. i got it started, it jerked as if it was choking,i managed to get to the dealership and it shut down again, just before i made it up to the service lane at the dealership. i was told that the rear axle seals were leaking, which i had repaired, also that an updated memory chip should have been installed in march,so that was done. pickup my car on april 18, 2013 and while sitting in traffic, the car was shaking and felt as though it was about to cutoff. i put in park while at the traffic light and pressed on the gas to raise the engine;as i turned into my driveway, it stalled again. i took it back to the dealership, they initially said there was a coil that was misfiring but the diagnostic machine could not detect it. i picked my car up on april 25, 2013 only to have something electrically draining my battery down to 4 or 5 volts every other day. took it back to the dealership, technician said their diagnostic machine couldn't find any problems with the battery, alternator nor any of electrical parts. i had no problems with my car prior to having the above services done. after speaking with a mechanic, i was told that i am not the only person having these type of problems, especially after a new software chip has been installed. perhaps this and other issues need to really be addressed with chrysler. *tr

Car stalls out at low speeds or when at light. consistent with other problems raised concerning these vehicles. *tr

This isn't the 1st time that the engine has stalled after filling the fuel tank. most recent episode happened as i was preparing to enter the gas stations drive-thru car wash...i had my foot on the brake to enter the code for the wash and just as i started to move forward the engine stalled. happened a couple of months ago on the public right of way, i was stopped at a red light (just after a fuel up and just before i was about to enter the freeway). another time i was in motion and it stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. the stalling affects the transmission. the engine is warm when this occurs. it takes about 3 attempts to successfully restart. *tr

After filling up the fuel tank, leaving the gas station the car stalled out several times. first out of the gas station , then 2 more times while getting on the freeway. very nerve racking. this has been a consistent situation everytime i have filled up for the last several months. i have not been able to use the vehicle to travel back and forth to work or other business needs. not real happy right now. have contact dealer and waiting response. *tr

My car have mis fire cylinder 1 it shakes when it cold then after a while it goes away, transmission driving bad out of no where going only 30 miles the fastest in my car stuck in park. *tr

Transmission failed to function properly. the transmission went into limp mode. problem diagnosed as fouled transmission wiring harness due to fluid contamination. the speed sensors and connectors at the transmission were damaged by the leaking of transmission fluid by the o-rings associated with the sensors and harness. *tr

While driving the vehicle the engine will unexpectedly stop. the event has happened several times. often it occurs after fueling. the vehicle has been into a garage for repair but the problem continues. sometimes when the event occurs the only way to restart the vehicle is to place the vehicle in park, press the accelerator all the way to the floor and turn on the ignition. *tr

When traveling at hwy. speed the car loses power and shuts off and back on by itself. if im stopped at a red light and it does it i have to put it in park and crank it back up but then it takes a 10-15 seconds before it will go into gear. the problem use to happen once or twice in a day and then it may be 2 weeks before it would happen again. now the car is not drivable as it does this constant. i got a new front control module and drove it about 20 miles and it started again. *tr

Car began going into limp mode while driving down the road or coming to a stop and restarting. now throws engine lights for cylinder 3 and cylinder 4 misfire. *tr
