2006 dodge charger r/t. this has been going on for years, i read about others having similar issues and decided to contribute mine as well as it happened again the other day when i accidentally refilled all the way. when you fill the tank all the way, the vehicle stalls immediately and will continue stalling until the gas tank is no longer "completely full." the only easy way to fix without taking something apart is to repeatedly restart the car until enough gas burns off. even with taking care to not fill the tank all the way, going up certain hills seem to cause the stall as well. no check engine light, just power cuts off. one single chime from the car as the oil light turns on. you can restart it but obviously this is bad when it happens in traffic. seems to stall most at stoplights and other idle conditions but can also stall in low speed scenarios. never got fast enough to tell if it would happen there too. according to both independent mechanic and dealer, this is a valve inside the fuel tank which would require an expensive fuel tank replacement to fix - the mechanic said they had seen a lot of them, but there was no recall so it would be at my expense to fix. *tr
Fill up with gas car stall numerous times is dangerous not always re start immediately needs gas tank because vent valve for evap system is bad con only be changed with new gas tank on other brand of cars you can change just the valve. cost on this car aprox. 1350.00 all dodge and chryslers with 5.7 litre do it. *tr
I was turning left into a parking lot and the vehicle suddenly stalled. this has happened probably 20 different times since i purchased the vehicle in march 2009. it has happened while driving at various speeds, while exiting the interstate, while turning at intersections and while driving on straight aways. several times have been soon after refueling. this always happens suddenly and without warning and has nearly caused me to wreck the vehicle. the last time this happened was on 5/17/2013, i had refueled that morning. that evening it stalled twice and i had trouble restarting the vehicle. something needs to be done before someone gets hurt or killed. i'm afraid to have my kids in the car. *tr
The engines' rocker arms & lifters are tapping & causing engine to stall & consume more gas all because the chrysler-dodge dealership have been replacing only 5qts of oil rather than the 6qts the manual instructs. nothing has been done by the dealer to correct this maintenance issue. *tr
I purchased my 2006 dodge charger in october 06. since my purchase i have maintained my car regularly. i was driving on a highway with my wife when she spotted smoke coming for the front hood. as i started to pull over flames were coming out. she yelled for us to run from the car and as we did the glass burst out and the car was engulfed in flames. my car insurance company did forensic testing and says it was started by something igniting (fluid). chrysler claims there was no manufacturing defect and now i am out of a car and money. chrysler pretty much told me i am screwed and they will not do anything about me getting a new car or reimbursement for the two years i paid into the car. they definitely do not to care and sent a form letter instead of anyone personally calling. we could have died or been seriously injured and when i called corporate they said the investigators decision was final. so like i said i am screwed big time. *tr
3/1/14....my husbands 2006 dodge charger/hemi, a few months after he purchased vehicle, would stall suddenly after filling the fuel tank with gas. he brought it to the dealer, while still under warranty, but they always told him there was nothing seriously wrong, perhaps a little dirt got into the fuel injection and it should clear up on its own. this kept happening but the dealer still would not admit there was anything wrong. then within the last few months it would sudden stall even without fueling and/or while he was driving, a definite safety issue. he brought it to another dealer, as the one where he purchased the auto closed, and they diagnosed it to be a defected fuel tank. by now, of course, the vehicle was out of warranty, so we had to pay for the service out of pocket. this was done on 1/14/14 and it was expensive. we definitely feel that this is the responsibility of the manufacturer since it should have been repaired while in warranty and expecting some type of reimbursement. researching this i found many complaints regarding this same issue and i think they will agree with me. thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while at a stop, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure would recur intermittently after refueling. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 42,867. .... updated 10-17-13 *bf the consumer stated the engine stalling happened occasionally after re-fueling and driving a short distance, then coming to a stop or slowing to make turn.
Car stalls. usually when coming to a stop but has stopped while driving on ta two lane highway in 120 degree weather. almost got rear ended. *nm
Car purchased 2/2006 w/ approx. 5,600 mi. first occurrence in 6/2007: vehicle in drive at stopped position. proceeded to accelerate through intersection. vehicle almost stalls and sputters (engine makes rough winding noise). does not accelerate. engine light on briefly. pulled over, put in park, returned to drive to try again. same thing happens. turned vehicle off, waited a few seconds, and then back on. drove fine for about 30 days. thought maybe bad gas. over the next couple of months it happened approx. 5 more times at different times during the day (hot and cool days, engine cool and warm). twice engine light came on and had to turn off for over 5 minutes before light would go out to proceed. brought in to chrysler dealer on sep. 13, 2007 where car was purchase for oil change, tune up, new tires and explained rough/whining idol, lack of acceleration and stalling/bogging down occurrences from a stopped position. said problem was fixed after mouse nest removed from engine and injector wire repair from chewing. sept. 17 & 18, happened again - backed out of driveway (each morning), came to a stop, put it in drive, and rough/whining engine sound and no acceleration above 20 mph. brought back to same dealer on 18 sept. have not been able to "duplicate the problem" so left overnight. *tr updated 01-14-08. *kb updated 12/12/08. *jb

During normal driving conditions, the fuel tank was punctured and a significant amount of gas streamed out of the tank. to the drivers and passenger's knowledge, no foreign objects were struck by the vehicle. during the subsequent repair by the dealer, it was discovered that the gas tank is made out of plastic, and the corner that was punctured was not protected by an additional shielding device. *nm
I have taken my car to the dealership 5 times to have issues fixed. each time i got the car back, it was worse. i had 13 issues originally with the car. i ended up suing, and got a very small settlement- dodge refused to cooperate. i still have each and every problem, and do not know what else to do. my car dies while in reverse, the brakes malfunction constantly, the window panel remains broken due to their inept work, the radio cuts off, the dash lights die @ night, etc. i would truly appreciate it if someone could actually help me. i do not know what else to do. i love my car dearly, but something needs to be done. the date i put as date of incident is when this all started. *tr
I am about to file a lemon law complaint because dodge has been "unable to duplicate" the most serious problems that have plagued my vehicle, a 2006 dodge charger r/t, since day four of my ownership. i have owned this car for 68 days and of those, i have only been able to drive the functioning car for 19 days. they have fixed a number of minor issues and notified me that they would be unable to fix or do not know how to fix at this time, some minor issues including the air conditioning compressor problems (which they say they have also been "unable to duplicate". the serious issues that are occurring when it idles, when it accelerates and with what seems to be the suspension and possibly both the engine and transmission. of those 68 days, they have come to pick up my car on three different occasions to try and fix it, the last time (which continues currently) they have had my car for four weeks. i happen to know (upon researching after the prolonged period they have had the car) that tsb's or technical service bulletins have been issued for every problem that is occurring with my car. additionally, i have taken my car to two different mechanics (one dodge dealership and one independent mechanic) that have witnessed these malfunctions. i would like to know what my options are legally for getting some kind of resolution. *jb
