I own a 2006 dodge charger srt8 with about 31,000 miles on it. i just got the vehicle on october 25, 2013 and have only had it for a month. a couple weeks after i had the car, i noticed a big problem. my engine would just shut of when i was idling. usually this would happen when i was stuck in traffic, or at a red light, or at a stop sign at an intersection. the entire car would just shut down immediately and i would have no control over the vehicle. there was no way of being able to tell when this problem would occur because there were no early warning signs such as chugging or noises coming from the engine. it started getting really bad to the point where i need to get it fixed. i was researching online and reading forums and found that this is a known problem with chrysler engines of this model. hundreds if not thousands of people like myself have the same problem. apparently, it is a faulty fuel vapor valve on the top of the fuel tank. the only way to repair it is to replace the entire fuel tank which is going to cost me well over $1000. i want to know why this isn't a safety recall and why it hasn't been. *tr
This vehicle has been flawless since purchased new in 2006. in nov. 2013 it stalled when backing out of the garage. restarted vehicle and was fine for 5 miles then stalled again. ever since then the problem has increased in frequency and almost caused multiple accidents due to the vehicle stalling when crossing intersections or merging onto highways. i have not driven this car in months due to this as it is not safe for me or other drivers on the road. i have spent close to $2,000.00 in multiple attempts to fix this vehicle following repair manual procedures via the dealer. i have had the pcm, replaced twice (first one was defective right out of the box), tcm replaced, battery replaced, throttle body replaced, map sensor replaced, asd relay replaced and spark plugs replaced with zero improvements. i used to enjoy this vehicle and now it is a death trap with the way it is behaving. something needs to be done as there are tens of thousands of these vehicles on the road exhibiting the same symptoms and dealer techs unable to properly diagnose and repair them. *tr
Every time i fuel up mt charger r/t, it stalls when i am stopped. it has happened the last 3 times i have fueled my car. no lights come on in dash, nor any warnings. sometimes it will just sputter when i go to take off. after a day it goes back to normal. *tr
My car stalled less than 1 mile after pulling out of a gas station after filling up with gas. it took several tries to restart before successfully able to drive again. i thought bad gas. but it now happens every time after i fill my tank full of gas. my car's rpms will sputter for the first couple miles after filling up with gas. it also stalls every time driving within the first 2 miles of filling up with gas. it is very scary driving with my family in the car and fearing that my car will stall in the middle of an intersection and cause a major accident. there is no check engine light or diagnostic codes for this. just the oil light comes on and the engine dies, power steering fails, and abs are not working. *tr
On 10/30/13 my 2006 dodge charger stalled on a major street without any warning. i had just filled the gas tank and was driving back to work. i had reached a speed somewhere between 40-50 when the car just stopped in the middle of the road. i was able to get it started and pull into a nearby parking lot and shut it off. i was shaken by the event, after collecting my thoughts i tried to re-start the car thinking if i let it idle for a bit it might be alright. the car ran momentarily then sort of choked and jolted then died. i tried once more but to no avail then had it towed to the dealer for service. they called the following day stating that they couldn't find anything wrong with it and we could pick it up. this same scenario happened twice before about this same time last year on two separate occasions. stalling several times at various speeds in both incidences. every time this happens i have just filled the tank using premium fuel. i spoke with the service manager and he didn't seem to be aware of a problem. i told him there are currently 54 claims all with the same problem and there definitely is a problem and i pray that someone finds a solution before some is seriously injured or killed. i no longer feel safe in my 2006 dodge charger. *tr
On 10/30/13 at approx 9:30am i refueled my '06 dodge charger 5.7l hemi rt/daytona edition @the gas station w/89-octane fuel. as i pulled out of the station @under 15mph, my car stalled-engine died, oil light & bell appeared, & steering locked up. it took 2-attempts the 1st time to restart it w/ it acting like the engine had flooded. i drove approx. 2-blocks & it again stalled (including all of the above) as i was slowing for a stoplight. it took 2-3 attempts to restart. i drove approx 1-1/2blocks, including a slight incline, to a stoplight where it again stalled, though this time immediately restarted. after driving 3-blocks more, as i slowed for a stoplight it again began to sputter & buck as though going to stall; i cont'd to brake but maintained pressure on the accelerator attempting to maintain rpms & oil pressure; however as i turned the corner it again stalled & took 4-attempts to restart. after sitting for 15mins i had no other issues this date. today(11/25/13) i refueled & experienced the sputtering, bucking, stalling, engine dying, oil light, zero oil psi, etc w/ 10-full stalls(engine failure episodes) in less than 20-mins. after allowing it to sit for 2+ hours the engine didn't fully die but did buck several times on the drive home. there was at least 1 add'l day between 10/30/13 & 11/25/13 that i experienced the same problems. all stalls have happened at 35mph or less. prior to the problems after refueling, i was having problems filling the gas tank. i attempted to refuel the car & the auto pump shutoff engaged after less than 1/2-gal entering the tank; the auto pump shutoff would engage 3-5xs per refuel & required multiple readjustments of the pump nozzle to fill my gas tank. i haven't had the car in for diagnostics b/c of the neg reports on the forums indicating diagnostics show no discernible problems. sounds like tsb#1803015 to me. *tr
After filling up the car and pulled out of the driveway of the gas station had approached the intersection making a left turn the oil light went on and vehicle died suddenly. i have taken it to get repairs, was told at first it was the oil pressure sensor. when replaced the engine light went on with a code reading the oil pressure senor low voltage. now they want to replace the connector/harness that i was told chrysler-dodge no longer makes that part. very costly repair. *tr
I just finished refueling almost to full. vehicle started perfectly. drove approximately 2 blocks at 15 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off. it took 3 attempts to restart. i drove approximately 4 more blocks at 15 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off again. i had the vehicle towed to the repair shop that i use. the mechanic at the shop drove the vehicle. the vehicle stalled and shut off 2 times while the mechanic drove it. vehicle was scanned for codes. no codes were displayed. the mechanic cleaned out the throttle body. vehicle has been operating perfect since that time. one other note. one month prior, with 3/4 tank of fuel, fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and chiming sound began ringing for approximately 10 seconds. vehicle did not stall or shut off. fuel gauge then suddenly returned to 3/4 full and chiming sound stopped ringing. *tr
After filling my tank i drove away from the station and my car shut off while driving down the road. it took a few attempts before my vehicle actually started again. i drove down the road towards my house and it stalled on me again. this time i was a little faster to turn on the vehicle but it stuttered all the way home. this happens every time i fill my tank. to be sure of the issue i ran my gas tank to half tank and refilled it. the same stalling outcome was present. i recently took my car in for repair of this issue but after the repair it continued with the stalling. after this happened to me on monday march 18, 2014 while my children were in the vehicle i decided to go back and get it looked at again by the dealer. my car is currently (march 19, 2014) at the dealer for the second time to try and get this issue fixed. i see on your website that nhtsa action number : pe13016 has been filed for this identical issue that i am having. i called chrysler to see if they would give me the letter to owner for extended warranty on the gas tank and i was told that i could not get it because my car does not have this issue, yet my car is at the dealer right now getting this same issue fixed. as usual i feel that chrysler is trying to ignore the issue and not give support to those who have purchased their product. my dealer has been helpful but they said they could not cover me under this extended warranty unless it appeared with my vin # in the chrysler system. this issue is very dangerous especially if you are fueling up near a highway and then getting onto the highway. while chrysler claims that this is low risk to motor vehicle safety it is high risk to human safety. we can replace cars, we can not replace people. all i ask for is reimbursement for a manufacture defect or an extended warranty. *tr
Car stalls and cuts off after refueling. i always put 89 octane or higher gasoline in my vehicle. this is a severe safety issue because you can get rammed from behind when in traffic i.e. washington, dc area the busiest streets in america. the dealer suggested the consumer spend $1800 to replace the fuel tank. updated 02/06/14
It stated in october, i filled up my gas tank and was driving home and the car stalled out when coming to a stop. did think anything of it and restarted my car, got to my house and i was slowing down to turn in it stalled out again. waited for about 15mins and went out and started the car in the garage started the car and let it run and as it ran it died while in idle. i was glad i was only a mile from my home and very little traffic at the time, with the lose of power to the car i could cause an accident. i do not fill the tank all the way since its the only time this happens. i have filled up my car only one more time after that to see if it was consistent, and it was. it happens at idle and when slowing down city speeds. i will not get on the highway for my safety and others. i have not drive my car unless it is absolutely necessary. *tr
After filling up gas tank, without over filling by rounding off, the car will stall out within 1/4 mile of running. it takes time cranking engine to start, then will buck and stall occasionally until it is driven at least 2-3 miles. all power steering and brakes are lost at this time as well. *tr
On or about 03 october 2013, the engine (5.7l hemi) stalled going at 30-35 mph. the engine service light came on, but disappeared when i restarted the engine. since that day, i have experienced multiple engine stall incidents (about 10 times) usually at a traffic stop being idle or approaching a stop, and during reverse. in november, while cruising on a highway, the engine acted as if to stall again with all the lights and chiming on the evic on and off, but did not stall probably due to the momentum or inertia. at that time, i had my entire family (size of four) with me in the vehicle and feared for their safety. i went to multiple chrysler dealers and service centers, but could not prevent the problem from reoccuring again. it appears from my online research and reading other complaints on nhtsa website that the symptoms i am experiencing are probably consistent with the faulty sensor in the fuel tank. *tr
Within 15 miles after filling the gas tank, the car just stops running with no warning. it has happened 3-4 times. so far we've been lucky and haven't been hit, but i'm afraid we will get rear ended soon. *tr
After filling up fuel, went to accelerate and car started sputtering, this happened while merging onto freeway. second time was when stopped at a stop light, light turned green, pressed the gas pedal and engine light came on and car died. was able to coast 2 lanes over to the side of road. car would restart but die after 30 seconds. had to car towed home. third time, car died at a busy intersection and was able to get it started and moved to a safe place. fourth time it died while turning into a shopping center. this is an extremely dangerous fault in the car and should be a recall and paid by chrysler, luckily i didn't get into an accident with someone rear ending me. my car is at the dealership with a $2000 charge to have this fixed. i should not have to be paying this, as it is a defect in the car itself!! *tr
This has happened many times. after filling the vehicle with a full tank, shortly afterwards car will stall without warning. sometimes as i exit the fuel station, other times it's 10 minutes later when i'm on the road. several times when driving it'll buck, stall and then start back up as it's coasting. most of the time it'll stall at a traffic light. when it stalls, it'll start back up, but there's a computer-related delay that prevents the car from going into gear for about 10-20 seconds... which seems like an eternity when you're stuck in the middle of an intersection. i've had some very close calls due to this, have learned not to trust the car, and have now learned not to fill it up fully. note this can happen when it's anything over 3/4 full. i've had the car since new, it's well maintained, and now has 102k miles. the stalling problem is the only safely related issue that i've had. *tr
I had refueled the car and drove about 10 miles toward my home, as i turned into my neighborhood the car stalled and would not restart. i coasted to my residence and stopped the car and turned the key to the off position. after 10 minutes i tried to start the car and it did, then surged and died again. restarted the car again and pulled it in to the garage and shut it down. *tr
I had just filled up my car and was pulling out of the gas station when my vehicle stalled in the middle of the roadway. my steering and brakes cut out as a result of the engine stalling. i try to continue to drive about 150' down the road when it stalls again. i finally pull over, restart the engine and let it burn off some gas before continuing. every time i have filled up my tank the problem reappears. if i don't fill up my tank i have no issues. *js
This has happened multiple times and seems to be increasing in frequency. when at idle, for example at a traffic light or in stop-and-go traffic, the engine has stalled. this happened again last night as well as this morning and it has me concerned. i have read that others complain of this happening with a full tank but that is not true for me. i never have over-filled the tank and even with it being a little over 1/2 full currently and it has stalled twice. i've found the active investigation (pe13016) and would like to be added to that group please. please let me know what else i can provide to help with this investigation and possible resolutions. thanks! *tr
After fueling vehicle, the engine died within half mile on road. put car in neutral to start engine, drove another 1-2 miles where car stalled and died again. has happened after filling up car and only with full tank, stalling occurs within 0-15 miles, then does not stall. have read several posting and discussions about this issue with same model/year cars. heard about possible investigation for faulty fuel/vapor separator valve with cuts off fuel to engine and causes engine to stall. had this happened to a driver who did not know how to react properly, or had a distracted driver not see my car stalled or stopped, this could have resulted in a serious problem. i had no power steering or power brakes and was not able to immediately restart vehicle in traffic, after momentary loss of power and finally able to restart the engine was i able to maneuver off the roadway safely. *tr
I had just filled the gas tank and when i made a turn the engine died while i was turning. i put the car into neutral and attempted to start the car a few times and it finally started. when the engine failed the power steering was disabled and it made me almost hit another car who had to adjust his route so i would not have a collision with him. there is a strong odor of gas as well. i have had this problem before after filling the gas tank with the motor dying at a stop light. the check oil light comes on but not the check engine light. the motor only fails when i fill the gas tank more than 3/4 full. i have had a problem with the car cutting off after filling the tank completely for several years. to avoid this dangerous scenario i have had to estimate the gas remaining to adjust filling to about 3/4 of a tank. i understand after reading dodge blogs that there is a very expensive fix for this by replacing the gas tank. i should not have to be in a position to only fill my tank 3/4 full to avoid a possible accident. this is clearly a defect that the manufacture is aware of after reading the hundreds if not thousands of complaints about this. *tr
I was coming to a stop at a red light. the car began to shake like it was a manual transmission and was stalling, the car is an automatic. we stopped at the stop light and realized the engine had shut off. i put the vehicle in park, removed the key, and attempted to restart. it attempted 3-4 times to restart with no luck. i exited the vehicle to endure the gas cap was on and it was. after waiting for about 1-2 minutes i attempted to restart and was successful. this was about 2 miles after filling up the tank. this seems very similar to the currently pending investigation. it has not happened since but i have not filled up the gas tank since either. *tr
On several occasions in the past 6-8 months i have experienced engine stalling after filling my 2006 dodge charger up with gasoline. in addition to the stalling, on one occasion the engine cut off completely. thankfully, i was in a low traffic area and it didn't cause a crash. the stalling does not happen when the engine is filled up partially or with about $20.00 worth of gasoline. on september 1st after leaving the grocery store, my husband went to start the car and it started smoking profusely. the car was towed to the dealership. according to the dealership there was oil in the gas tank and, the engine was destroyed. one of the diagnosis codes indicated that cylinder # 5 had misfired. this problem has the potential to be extremely dangerous. chrysler doesn't seem to care at all. *tr
Just after filling the tank and merging on to the major deegan expressway (i-87n) car dead stalled in the highway, causing to vehicles behind me to slam on their brakes to avoid an accident. it took me ten minutes to get my car restarted. engine would turn over but not remain on. but after ten minutes of trying this, car remained on and i was able to drive it home. i thought that i had been given some bad gas, until the incident repeated itself again after a fill up seven days ago at a gas station near my home. the owner there says he has seen a similar problem with other chargers after fill up. i then called chrysler at 1-800-992-1997 ([xxx]?) and chrysler claimed they have never heard of this problem before and that i will have to take my car to the dealer and have it repaired at my own cost, but if they've never heard of any problem like this before then how do they know the dealer will know how to repair it? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I was leaving the gas station after i filled up the car with gasoline and the engine stalled. i placed the transmission in park and turned on the car in the middle of traffic, drove to the stop light and the car stalled again. the car kept stalling every time i would stop for the next three miles. the car ran fine until i topped off the fuel tank and then the car began stalling again. the car stalls at every stop for the next two to three miles every time that i top off the fuel tank. i cannot and have not topped off the fuel since then for fear that the car will stall and cause an accident. *tr
Minutes after filling my tank with gas, i drove less than a mile and turned into a parking lot. i was still driving, around 15 mph, when i heard a ding, and immediately noticed a loss of steering control. i pressed the brake and quickly noticed a loss of braking as well. it was then i realized the car had stalled while i was still moving! thankfully i had no one around and was on a straight stretch where i could slowly come to a stop, put it in park and restart. i pulled into a parking space, and the car proceeded to stall out 2 more times just sitting there. there was no warning symptoms ahead of time - perfectly smooth idle at the correct rpm, then it just drops to 0 as if the key were turned off. i ran into the store for less than 2 minutes, came out and drove home. i haven't seen any problems since then (this happened less than 24 hours ago). there were no codes thrown. i've owned this car since '07 when it had 5k miles on it. with a little over 88k miles i've never seen anything like this happen before. needless to say if this happened in traffic it would be highly dangerous. note: this is a 2006 daytona r/t. early manufacture date of 9/22/2005. *tr
After filling my car up at a gas station i was entering the freeway and my car sputtered and stalled on me on the on ramp to the freeway. i was almost rear ended and the car locked up and it was difficult to steer. further diagnoses from the dealership showed that the evap valve was bad on the car and needed a new gas tank. apparently this problem is happening with a lot of dodge chargers, magnums and chrysler 300's. *tr
About 3 months ago at around 65,000 miles, my 2006 dodge charger r/t started sputtering and cutting off after filling with fuel. a strong odor would come from underneath. it will last for about 5-10 miles and stop. i have no more problems with it until i fill up again. it has been in the shop several times with me paying for diagnostics but they can not find anything wrong.i have explained to them it only happens when i put fuel in it. now that i am seeing these complaints, i am contacting the dodge dealership to see if this is my problem. it is dangerous driving this car like this. i have to make sure i don't put fuel in it in the city because you will get stuck in traffic and risk getting in and accident. why want the company do a recall on this problem, it is very serious and need to be fix before someone gets hurt or killed.. *tr
Stalling happens after fuel up. stalling at high speeds while acceleration and while stopped at stop lights. looses power instantly on freeway the kicks back in. *tr
This car stalls for the first 20-30 miles after filling the gas tank. it stalls in the middle of intersections, while idling, when cruising at highway speeds, etc... *tr
After filling up the gas tank the vehicle stalls after driving a short distance. has done this numerous times. it will sputter for some time and continue to cut off several times before driving smoothly. i took it to the dealership, and they stated that it was a faulty gas tank. after removing the gas tank, i received a phone call from the dealership later that day. they advised me that the fuel pump was cracked. the total cost went from $1300 to an additional $300. *tr
Initially, after refueling my vehicle (2006 dodge charger r/t with 5.7l hemi) at a gas station, the engine would hesitate and stumble a mile or so later, and operate normally after a few moments. however, beginning within the last month, whenever i refuel at the gas station, the engine will hesitate and then stall.the obd does not illuminate the mil or register a dtc. the engine is then hard to restart, and once restarted and the transmission in drive, the vehicle will not begin to move immediately upon pressing on the accelerator, as if the transmission is in park or neutral. the stalling happens when pulling out of the gas station, when stopped and idling, and has happened when driving in traffic. this problem has resulted in several near collisions as the unexpected loss of power happens when pulling into traffic and while driving. this condition continues for several minutes and miles. i have gotten into the practice of refueling and driving straight home to park the car overnight, as it seems to drive better given time to sit after refueling. *tr
After filling gas tank, engine hesitates and/or stalls. i only fill up until the fuel pump automatically shuts off, i do not add any more fuel than that. this has happened almost every time i have filled up with fuel. most of the stalling/hesitation occurs when coasting or decelerating (coming to a stop). this has created multiple very dangerous situations due to the engine not running and i have a loss of the power assist to the steering. occasionally the engine has a difficult time restarting after the engine stalls. this will occur approximately 4-8 times after a fill-up of fuel. *tr
2006 dodge charger r/t (close to 70k miles) failed to accelerate shortly after fuel tank was partially filled (3/4 of gas tank). incident occurred when making a left turn on a 2 way/double lane city street. as i proceeded to make a left turn when a clear section of oncoming traffic was present, the vehicle suddenly stalled in the middle of the opposite "oncoming" traffic and failed to accelerate. in order to achieve proper acceleration, i had to restart the vehicle (while oncoming traffic was forced to stop, abruptly). fortunately the incident did not involve any injuries nor fatalities. therefore the reason why this safety complaint is being submitted. no previous signs of this issue was ever noticed, nor did it happened before. *tr
I continue to have a problem with my car stalling after refueling. i know that nhtsa has been investigating this issue for a while (pe-13-016) and that they closed this investigation on feb 10, 2014, after chrysler agreed to provide a lifetime warranty on the multifunction control valve on fuel tank. i had been waiting to receive my letter, which supposedly began being mailed out in january 2014, so i could have this fixed. i talked to my dealership in march who said they knew nothing of the problem and they suggested calling chrysler. i called chrysler on april 4, 2014, and they said they are still investigating the problem and that i should just wait for the letter. i have had to deal with my car stalling out for nearly a year and when i thought it was nearly over, i was told to wait some more? why isn't chrysler honoring their agreement with nhtsa? *tr
When i got into the car to leave work i could not get it out of park. i got a ride home and returned the next day and called the dodge dealership. they said they have had this happen numerous times and that it could happen anywhere. one of the mechanics had it happen when he stopped for fuel. the part cost $7 and the labor is $175. i feel i was fortunate that it did not happen while i had my infant grandkids with me and that it happened at work, so at least i was not stranded somewhere alone. evidently dodge is aware of the problem because the mechanic said they used to have to replace the whole shift mechanism and now dodge has come out with a cheaper part to fix it. it evidently doesn't have anything to do with the year because they said they have had it happen on brand new vehicles as well as older models. *tr
While driving with cruise control on the car just stalled out for about 3-5 seconds and kicked back on. this has now become more frequent and also stalls while stopped now. i have spent over 1300$ trouble shooting and going back and forth to the mechanic. only to start searching and came across this investigation. i just want the car to run correctly.
When i fill the car completely up with gas, it will stall out while driving several times until the fuel level lowers. *tr
After filling with gas the engine stalled and died. it has continued to do this every time the tank is filled. *tt
Filled gas tank and then approx 10 miles into my drive car chug chugged a couple times then stalled. at first car wouldn't restart but when i pressed gas pedal and turned key on next attempt it turned over. drove short distance and stalled again. this happened again and again when i filled my tank to full. eventually i found that if i did not fill tank to full i was ok. *tr
After refueling of vehicle and driving from gas station vehicle stalls and hard to start. after researching this issue on the internet it appears this is a common issue with this make and model. now when trying to refuel the vehicle the pump kicks off every few seconds, unable to refuel at a gas station at this point. only way to refuel at this point is by using a five gallon gas can so that the air can escape the gas tank through the gas tank filler tube. took the vehicle to the dealership and was told the check valve on the gas evap system is defective which is intergrated within the gas tank. dealership told me they have seen this many times and the check valve cannot be replaced. to correct the problem a new gas tank will need to be installed at a cost of $1,350. *tr
After refueling stalled out has done it multiple times. had one time while passing it lagged then when i stopped after it stalled out again. *tr
Vehicle stalls after refueling and pulling out of the gas station (into traffic). then, it is hard to start and sputters and stalls for some time. it appears to be an issue with the fuel tank vent valve failing to shut off when the tank if full. this allows raw fuel to enter the evaporation system which probably ruins the evaporation canister as well. the fuel tank vent valve is integrated into the fuel tank so, the fuel tank has to be replaced in order to fix the primary issue. other components in the evaporation system may need to be replaced as they were not designed to have raw fuel in them. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t with a 5.7l engine. my car has started to randomly stall mostly at slower speeds when approaching a stop light or making a turn. there is no warning that it is going to happen, it just sputters, bucks and then stalls. there are no codes after restarting the car. it will restart if i put it in either park or neutral but continues to chug and sputter after restarting. it will do this for awhile and then will not happen again for some time. i never know when it is going to do it or how long it will last. it is very unnerving since it happens at lights and in the middle of intersections. it has happened a few times at highway speeds and thankfully i was able to quickly restart it in neutral and not get into a bad situation! it's very frightening since i live in a big city with heavy traffic. this is very dangerous!!!!! after looking into this issue with the car and seeing the number of complaints, it is obvious that the manufacturer needs to address the problem and fix it. a recall would be appropriate. *tr
While driving on the interstate at a low rate of speed due to traffic....engine stalled and shut off. engine started again on re-start. i had recently purchased full tank of fuel this happened again today...6 - 26 - 13 ....again at low speed due to morning traffic...started again on re-start....purchased tank of gas again yesterday...both time from different station. *tr
My car has begun stalling immediately after filling up the tank. originally thought it was bad fuel the first two times it happened but i have now had this occur 5 or 6 times. the first couple miles after leaving the gas station, the car will stall both while idling at a red light, and while accelerating.. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel system was allowing too much fuel into the engine which caused it to fail. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 26,500. *tr updated 7/15/13 *cn the consumer stated there was a malfunction of a valve on top of the fuel tank, that was part of the emission system.. raw fuel entered the fuel canister, which made the engine rich and stalled.
When out of town i filled up my dodge charger and headed to a hotel. on the road my car began to stall, but not completely lose power. when i slowed to make a turn it completely died. at the time i thought i had gotten bad gas, and had my car towed and repaired. however, it continued to do the same thing only after filling my tank. i took my car to firestone for a diagnostic and the mechanic told me that i would need a new fuel tank. he told me that many people with my car have been having the same issues. i googled the issues i was having and sure enough he was correct. i eventually got the gas tank replaced at firestone and there hasn't been any issues since. *tr
After filling the fuel tank the vehicle began to sputter and hesitate. this happened within several miles of the gas station. i thought it was bad fuel. later after filling up at a different gas station the same thing occurred. the third or fourth time this happened the vehicle sputtered and died and the oil service light came on. this last incident occurred as i was heading for a busy highway. i took the vehicle to a chrysler service dept. where i was told that i would need a new gas tank to fix the problem as one of the parts that failed was part of the gas tank. i asked what would cause this and was told that the tank is a "wishbone" design that straddles the drive shaft and over time the tank sagged on the outer ends causing the problem. the problem stops after the gas level goes down. i no longer fill the tank all the way and the sputtering hasn't happened again. i don't over fill the tank and i don't let the vehicle run while fueling. a dangerous problem. *tr
I refueled the gas tank with high octane gas, and while driving the short distance home, the engine stalled three times. this made braking difficult and scary, as i was in traffic. each time it started back up, but left me very afraid of wrecking from possibly not being able to stop the car. *tr
