After refueling, the car stalled out numerous ti es while on a major highway. very lucky that i wasn't hit. *tr
The first time my wifes 2006 dodge charger car shut off/stalled after we filled up the car, i thought it may have been some bad fuel. but no way - as i have filled the car several times now and the same thing happens regardless of where we get the fuel. last night, i filled the 2006 dodge charger gas tank on a trip and was getting back onto the highway and the car stalled....lost power steering, etc...had to quickly place in neutral and restart...then put into drive and it was okay for a few moments. then the car started sputtering and stalled again. i pulled to the side of the intestate 75 and came to a complete stop. had a hard time cranking it, but then it did crank. i started to pull off and it stalled again. after the 3rd time i was able to continue down the highway for about 2 miles and it started sputtering. it did this about 4-5 times and then ran okay. i drove on home, which was about 40 miles and figured that the stalling problem was behind us (at least we fill up again). this morning my wife took the car to go to the gym and she had to turn around as the car kept stalling. it is definitely worse right after the car is filled up with fuel, and sometimes it shuts off in the gas station parking lot. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge daytona r/t charger. in january of this year, with ~185k thousand miles on the car, it began stalling after fueling. the car will suddenly die and causes loss of power steering and brakes, and is often difficult to restart. this is causing extremely dangerous conditions, as it occurs when pulling out into traffic and/or moving through intersections. because the car suddenly stalls, you are left in the middle of the street and at times, fast-moving traffic and unable to start the car to move it out of the way. *tr
After i stop and fill my gas tank, my car will stall and shut off while driving. i was almost rear ended leaven the gas station because the car just shut off on me. this will only after i fill my gas tank to full. *tr
My car stalls after refueling the tank. it does it at stops and slowing speeds. it has happened in the middle of turns etc. i t has almost caused me to crash. i went to my mechanic who in turn said i needed an entire fuel tank $1700. while debating on the having it fixed of course checking my finances. i went on line and seen numerous articles about this issue. in the articles you guys are mentioned for having done a federal probe into the situation and chrysler extending a warranty on the problem to life time. well then i went to the dealer and brought it to their attention and nobody knew anything about it. they charged me $65 to diagnose the car and proceeded to give me an estimate of $1900. they then gave me the number to chrysler who in turn knew nothing of the problem and sent me on my way saying there is not a problem and no warranty. i need to know if in fact this is a legitimate claim by the nhtsa in the articles out there. some of these articles are as recent as of february 2014. i have almost had two accidents from this issue. it has taken numerous scenarios to trouble shoot this and when reading the articles brought everything to light. please help. the articles mention 2006 chrysler 300,dodge charger, & dodge magnum with v8 5.7 & 6.1liter engines. this is what i have. *tr
2006 dodge srt8 6.1 repeatedly stalls after filling with gasoline. vehicle is difficult to start after. car sputters at speed for first 30 miles on full tank. *tr
While driving vehicle it will shut off unexpectedly and abruptly locking up power steering. on multiple occasions with last incident occurring on may 28, 2014 at approx 1:00 pm while turning right at an intersection car shut off and immediately locked power steering. 2 cars were feet behind my car while another car had entered intersection anticipating our turns. car shuts completely off. must put in park and restart car. cars behind me slammed on brakes. *tr
The car shut off completely while driving right after refueling and leaving the gas station. it shut off 3 more times after that. *tr
after re-fueling, my 2006 dodge charger will stall until the car has been driven 20-30 miles. the stall will occur at any speed and will stop after some fuel has been used. i am concerned because this stall has occurred at busy intersections and heavy traffic. i consider this a serious safety issue. *tr
The car stalled just after fueling when attempting to cross a busy road. i was luck that i was able to restart after a few trys and get out of the way of on coming traffic. the car stalled two more times within one mile. each time, i blocked traffic. i have read that this is a common problem with my vehicle. the car was towed to a dealer since i did not feel safe driving it any longer. *tr
Immediately after fueling vehicle to regular capacity and automatic shutoff - no "topping off". left the filling station and the car stalled several times, each time in a precarious position such as decelerating to make a turn or coming to a stop at a light. car dies losing power steering and breaks. thought this might be bad gas but it has since repeated every time the car is refueled. this is becoming a serious safely concern as the condition is common during the first 50 or so miles of driving after a fill up. upon speaking with the dealer they blamed the issue on the end user overfilling the tank. as the only user of the vehicle it is never overfilled nor ?topped off?. *tr
After re-fueling at a local gas station i came to a stop at a traffic signal light. when the light turned green the car stalled. i placed the car in park and it restarted. this also occurred several months ago and i experienced the same scenario each time after re-fueling my vehicle. *tr
This is not the first time this has happened and this is flat out dangerous! after driving all day i was almost out of gas so i stopped at one of my regularly used gas stations. as like i always do when i get gas i got a full tank and i do not overfill, once the handle pops i'm done pumping. vehicle started fine and i drove off the gas station with no problems. once on the main road i approached my first turn and in mid turn going about 20mph my vehicle just stalled,no warning or nothing it just randomly stalled. once the car rolled off the main street i put it in park and tried to start it up again. no luck, the vehicle wouldn't start. it took a few tries but managed to get it running again. to my surprise i didn't have a check engine light so i sat there for a while revving the engine and even shut it off and restarted it, everything seemed fine so i went on my way. shortly after i drove off it happened again and this time i was just driving straight. from the gas station to my home is about 10min and in that short time frame the vehicle randomly stalled 4 times! this went on for a few days until my fuel lvl was about 3/4 full? after researching online on dodge forums i was able to find out what may and most likely be the issue with my vehicle. some say its a collapsed gas tank which affects a check valve in the gas tank that is for the evap system. when you have a full tank and the system opens up to release gas vapors back into the engine it's actually sending raw fuel back into the engine which in turn floods the vehicle and causes the stall. of course this part can't be replaced or fixed since the tank and those parts are sold as one piece which is big $$$! my only fix for this until this is recalled is i don't get a full tank anymore. this is a serious and dangerous issue which should be recalled immediately before someone gets into a serious accident. *tr
When gas tank is filled, car will stall a few blocks later. dodge says the sensor in the gas tank is faulty and causes the system to suck gas backwards through the vapor recovery lines and deposit it into the engine, flooding the car. all power is lost to power steering, brakes, and drive train. if you are turning when this happens, it is very dangerous and will cause a crash. total loss of control over the vehicle. dealership and dodge/chrysler acknowledge the danger (i have the emails to prove it). they say it happens all the time and they will only help with fixing the problem if you (nhtsa) asks them to recall the cars. note that the sensor inside the gas tank is the problem. the part can be replaced, but dodge only sells the entire gas tank as an assembly, causing increased cost on those of us that experience this problem. we all asking you (the government) to help keep us and our families safe by requesting dodge recall vehicles and replace this defective design. there is no way a simple vapor recovery sensor inside the gas tank should cause the gasoline to flow the wrong direction, resulting in a stall that produces complete loss of control over the vehicle. it is worse when performing turns (u-turns) or at turns. this is a danger to pedestrians, as the driver does not expect sudden loss of all power steering and brakes. the gas station's fuel pump cut off after accurately filling the tank and stopped when full. the tank is not over-full. it's a defective design (admitted by dodge) that causes gasoline to be sucked up in the wrong direction, flooding the engine compartment with excess fuel. please assist the taxpayers by keeping us safe and recalling the vehicles with this design to get the parts replaced with ones that will never fault out in the same manner. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle sputtered and stalled when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. the failure continued to occur over a six month period. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing however, they were unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
When temps. were cold less than 25 degress the accelerator would would stick at 4,000 rpm. i could put my foot under the gas pedal and lift it up to a normal idle. the throttle is electronically controlled. here in michigan with more than 90" of snow this season an accident was waiting to happen, very unsafe. i told the dealer what was wrong and i expected a repair $495.00 parts and labor. i called chrysler customer service 4 days of conversation got me nowhere. i paid a $99.50 for diagnoses and took it elsewhere. the gas pedal assembly was replaced. apon a under hood inspection the connector that plugged in the front of the air itake was removed, throttle plate actuator. when i drove it in i could accelerate, my 6 mile ride home had a top speed of 20 mph and 2 dash lites were on. i went to kevin [service write up] and he just blamed it on the gas pedal assembly...wrong. the gas pedal assembly has no sign of damage, rust or anything to cause this problem.
Typical problem related by many after refueling the engine dies and thus, for over a year now, i never fill to more than 16 gallons. but, if one turns left with fuel level around 16 gallons, the engine quickly dies leaving the vehicle vulnerable in the middle of a busy intersection without steering or brakes. left hand turns now have to be made at a very slow speed after refueling which can also create a dangerous situation. this is clearly a recall issue and chrysler needs to own up to this sorry issue with a prestigious automobile. *tr
Refilled with fuel and as i was pulling out on to the street the car stalled. i restarted and began to drive. it stalled a 2nd time. after i got it started again it seemed ok. every since then, every time i fill up it stalls out. i have to sit in the gas station lot and let it run until it stalls out. i afraid to drive on the street as i might get into an accident. after it stalls out a couple of time in the gas station lot, it doesn't do it again until i fill up again. *tr
My car stalls after every fill up for fuel. i later discovered this was a common complaint causing random fires as well as rear end collisions from stalling onto freeways . i paid $40k for this vehicle. manufacturer nor extended warranty covers this costly and dangerous defect. i would like for this problem to be rectified by a manufactures' recall or consumer reimbursement. please contact me at [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Continues to stall after gas fill-up in traffic causing other cars to dodge to right of left to avoid collusion. makes for dangerous driving after fill-up. apparently many other charger owners are having the problem at an increasing rate. this is something chrysler should look into before people get injured or worse! this is well documented on the internet. *tr
The problem started back in december of 2013 at 77,000 miles. when i fill up at the gas station (i never top of) the car stalls and shuts off. it happens every time i fill up. i pull out of the gas station and it shuts off in the middle of the road. dealer can't find the problem. it's very frustrating. my main concern is safety and the repeated service visits and cost. the last time was scary because it shut off at a red light. when i started up the car again it shut off in the middle of traffic. i managed to get home but the car shut off several times during the drive. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall after refueling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was advised that the fuel tank valve was damaged and the fuel tank would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 84,000. updated 02/06/14*lj
On 12-14-2013, i filled up the gas tank. i pulled out of the gas station and into traffic and stopped at a red light. while at the red light, vehicle stalled and oil light came on. turned the corner at the red light and got into my parents subdivision and vehicle stalled again. got the vehicle started and pulled into the driveway. on 12-15-2013, vehicle stalled close to parents driveway. attempted to restart. vehicle would not start on first attempt and on the second attempt, i had to press the accelerator to start the vehicle. got it started and put the vehicle in the driveway. notified the dealership the next day and had the vehicle towed. dealership could not find problem right away and i asked them to look at the rollover (vent) valve in the gas tank. they checked the rollover (vent) valve and found that it was the problem. got it repaired and the final cost was $1446.47. *tr
Stalls and shut off after fill up. *tr
Vehicle began to misfire and then stalled approximately 1/4 mile after filling fuel tank. this has happened multiple times and is occurring more frequently. this is a serious safety issue since vehicle stopped in the middle of an intersection and almost caused an accident. was able to restart the car and continue to destination. online forums attribute the cause to a faulty vapor purge valve/evap canister and requires fuel tank replacement. *tr
Vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy street while driving during rush hour traffic. luckily no one hit me (especially since i had my daughter in the car). i had just filled up the gas tank (did not overfill--gas is way too expensive for that). had it towed and the dealer had to replace the fuel tank, o-ring unit, vapor canister, solenoid-proportional purge and some misc. pins etc. cost me $1900.00 out of my pocket with the dealer giving me a 10% service discount. they also informed me that with the vapor canister failing, if you were in a rollover accident the car most likely would catch fire which would definitely decrease your chances of surviving. this is a huge safety concern for anyone that is driving or riding in the vehicle even if it only shuts off. you can not brake or steer when the car shuts off so getting out of harms way is a challenge without getting hit by another vehicle. i see that there are a huge number of complaints regarding this issue and it needs to be put out as a service recall. not an alert or bulletin but an actual recall. i guess when people start losing their lives and the lives of their loved ones that are passengers then maybe dodge will do the right thing. i see that there is some info out there that dodge was extending the warranty on the fuel tank/system and letters were to be sent to the car owners. i have not received anything i honestly believe that i should be reimbursed. dodge used to have "safety first" on their website. odd, i don't see that anymore. *tr
Vehicle stalls after filling up fuel tank. *tr
Car stalled at stop light. took a few tries to get started again. this happens after refueling the car. this is not the first time this has occurred, i am irritated that it keeps happening. *tr
After fueling the vehicle i drove about 1/4 mile released the gas pedal to make a left turn at a controlled inter section, the motor died during the turn. the car did not restart easily. the car died 3 more times in route to my home which was less than a mile further. this has happened the last 5 or more times i have filled the gas tank. i have owned this car since new and i am the sole driver. i am afraid this may cause an accident in the future if not remedied. yesterday i spoke to my local dodge dealership where the car is serviced, i was informed the fix for this is replacing the fuel tank due to a defective part inside of the tank which is not serviceable. i than call the dodge corp. customer service number were their agent read a prepared statement regarding the expired warranty. i feel this is a design problem which could lead to a dangerous situation as it becomes increasingly worse. thank you for this forum. *tr
After fueling car, the engine stalled. luckily i had not pulled into traffic yet. i was able to restart after a couple of attempts and drive back into the parking lot. the engine stalled again. after that, the car wouldn't start. i had to have it towed to the nearest dodge dealership. because it was thanksgiving, and everything was closed, i had to delay my trip a day before continuing on to my destination. the next day the dealership called and said it was running fine and couldn't find anything wrong with it. i had no further problems until sunday on my way home. i stopped to fill up the tank and it happened again. this time i didn't leave the gas station in fear that it might happen again. i was able to get the car started and keep it idling for about 15 minutes before attempting to drive in traffic. this process took about 2 hours. i continue to have the same issue when filling the tank with gas. i am unable to travel out of town because i don't want to get stranded again and or worse, cause an accident and injure someone. the only tip i can offer that has helped with this issue is to keep the engine running while fueling. i know this is not recommended, but it has helped prevent the engine from stalling after fueling and causing an accident. *tr
Filled up fuel tank on 11/28/13 and on 12/1/13 and about 200 feet after exiting gas station the car stalled, i restarted the car and it drove another few hundred feet and it stalled a couple more times. after reading some article i found this has become a common problem on this car. i feel it should be a safety recall due to the car stalling seconds after pulling out into traffic risking getting rear ended or t boned. *tr
While navigating a parking lot (approx. 5 mph) minutes after filling the gas tank, the engine died. the oil pressure light came on, the rpm gauge dropped to zero and the steering became very difficult to turn. we were able to shift into park and start the car fairly easily, but the engine turned over for several seconds before starting. the engine stalled twice more when leaving the same parking lot and had to be started again each time. we experienced engine hesitation (seemed to lose all power) while driving at about 40 mph on the way home. there were at least four hesitations and we were worried it would die completely. these hesitations have happened twice before and always immediately after filling the gas tank. the severity of the problem seems to be increasing with each incident. we are very concerned that we will stall in a dangerous situation while driving and are now afraid to fill the tank completely. we never "top off" the car's gas tank and always stop fueling after the station pump shuts off automatically. *tr
After a full fill up, while driving car started chugging, and stalled. at red lights, or stop signs, car stalled and died. at a stop, going to start through an intersection, car stalled. *tr
I gassed up, and then drove off. when slowing down for a stop light, my car's oil light came on and stalled out. it restarted, but then shut off again. i was able to re-start and then travel 35 miles each way visiting family. this happened again on december 3rd after gassing up, it shut down on me when i got to work in the morning, then stalled again on the way home. then again yesterday, dec. 4th 2013 when i got to work, i backed into my parking spot, and it shut down. then leaving for the day, i was going down the parking garage about to exit, and it shut off before i could leave my building. i then drove it around the block, and it shut down again, and i had a hard time starting it. it finally started, and i headed home, and it stalled in traffic again, not even 10 minutes later. i was able to start it, and make it home. and it's sitting at home today, december 5th, 2013. *tr
After filling up with gas this morning, as i accelerated away from the gas station the car began to buck and jerk. it smoothed out for a little while, then after accelerating away from the next stoplight it jerked and made a loud noise. this is heavy suburban traffic, so very stop-and-go. the car began to stall, and only restart if i depress the accelerator all the way to the floor while starting. go a little bit further, then buck and stall again. very dangerous! i'm learning through online vehicle forums that this is a relatively common problem with this year/make/model vehicle's gas tank and the integral "roll-over" valve which is supposed to prevent liquid fuel from entering the engine, yet the manufacturer refuses to acknowledge a faulty design that is leading to potentially dangerous situations. will it take accidents, fires and death to make it a higher priority? *tr
After filling the fuel tank, the car will suddenly stall while driving on the road within 5 miles of fueling up. this can be very dangerous if i am turning and another vehicle is coming at me. i lose all power steering. to start it again i have to either come to a complete stop and put the car in park, or i have to put it in neutral and turn the key while moving. this can be very dangerous under several situations. *tr
Warmed up my car as i always did in the morning for 15 min pulled out of my driveway and proceeded to the down the street to the stop sign came to a complete stop and my car started to idle hard continued down the street at 35 mph and came to a complete stop at a stop light the car started to idle hard again then the red lighting bolt started to flash and car shut off. i put my car back in park and restarted the car proceeded for another file mile approached another stop light light and same thing hard idle and shut off. i took my car to four different dealerships no one knew what the problem was. one mechanic said that it could be throttle body so i had him remove it and clean it he also removed the cables to battery to reset it car work fine for three days no problem the on the fourth day did as i always did warm up car and take off car shut off at first stop light. i noticed that it didn't do it while it was warm out side this morning was really cold and same issue. *tr
Since about 4 years ago my 06 charger daytona has been stalling for unknown reasons. took it to the dealers only to be told they couldn't find anything wrong. after some research i came to know that dodge had a real issue with safety concerning the evap system. i was told later that an unserviceable valve on the gas tank was faulty and therefore the gas tank needed to be replaced; its too expensive. it has been very frustrating because the engine stalling after fueling has gotten bad. i've stalled in the middle of a busy road twice and numerous times before a stop or red light. its only matter of time before some body gets hurt or killed. *tr
After fill up my car stalls at stop signs and when making turns. i have to stop to get it started then it runs rough for awhile. this had happen a week before then the same thing happens. *tr
11/16/13 i had just filled up my gas tank on i95 at ladysmith, va and was coming down the ramp northbound when the engine sputtered and stalled just as i merged onto the highway. i pulled over after getting blasted by truckers horns for making them slam on brakes. after a couple attempts it restarted and i took off again, only to have it stall again. it did this three more times before it finally started and did not stall. since it didn't happen again, i figured i just got some bad gas. then it happened the next time i filled up. and the next. and the next. i checked on-line and found several others who had experienced this and they said it was the gas being filled to the brim that caused it. i tried filling up less than a full tank and this did seem to work. only problem is i now want to sell or trade in the car and i don't feel right passing this problem along to someone else. i saw the article about nhtsa forcing chrysler to extend the warranty on 2006 hemi chargers and took it to the dealer only to be told they know nothing about this and would fix the problem for $1100. why hasn't chrysler set up a program for these replacements? is there a list of the vehicles that are covered by the new extended warranty? can i please see if my car is on it and if not why not? *tr
Engine stall after refuel. in researching this issue, nhtsa #pe13016 addresses the problem. however, i have yet to receive any documentation that allows repair of my vehicle. dodge states my vehicle isn't covered. *tr
After fueling up my car, i jumped onto the hwy and my vehicle started jerking and then staled on me. i was able to started it back up but it stop on my again. made it home and everything was fine the next day. i thought i got some bad gas. then, this kept happening after i would put gas into my tank. i finally took it in, january due to i was almost reared end while taking my daughter to school. i just found out it was the fuel tank and it will cost me 1800 dollars to replace the part. *tr
When i fill my 2006 dodge charger up with gas. it will run about 1/4 mile then stop running. it will crank back up. run just a little ways and stall again. it does this three times. then runs good until i fill the gas tank up again and it starts to stall the same way .this almost caused me to crash on 75 south. this car does not show any codes called detroit they say that they don't have a problem with this, but on the net hundreds of people are having the same problem. *tr
After filling the gas tank, the car stalled. numerous attempts to get the car started failed. car would try to start, but would not catch. after sitting overnight, car would start. numerous times after filling, the car would chug and lose power or kill all together. *tr
Car stalls after fill-up! acts as though it's flooded and dies. only happens after filing it up with gas. drive about a 1/4 mile then it starts to die. this is very dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!! how about a recall? *tr
After filling tank to full and leaving gas station to make a left turn on green, vehicle engine stopped and had to restart twice in order to make the turn safely. engine continued stalling until after approximately 4 miles it finally stayed running. this same occurrence happened before on several occasions, and read about other 2006 charger 5.7 hemi owners having same issues. the car cannot be filled up with fuel completely which is a great inconvenience and danger, especially when you need to enter traffic or make a safe left or right turn. dodge refuses to repair or acknowledge the issues , cannot get rid of the car and purchase something else as i am a disabled veteran. *tr
Filled my tank at gas station, got back on the highway and the car stalled (at over 60mph). car would restart w/out problem, but it happened several more times. it cleared up and i assumed it was bad gas (water, perhaps). had company in town the next week. same, filled tank, got on ih-35, and the car stalled on a flyover (much to the dismay of those driving behind me). i lost power steering/braking and almost ran into to wall (with 3 other people in the car). i found others who'd had similar trouble, and knew i couldn't afford the new tank. recently, i saw that dodge had extended the warranty on the tank; so i took it to the dealership where i get my maintenance done. they confirmed it was a fuel tank problem (the same others have had), but denied that the warranty would cover it. i called dodge customer service, and they said the same. i know others have had this happen at low speeds, but both times it occurred going over 60mph for me, and i feel it is a safety hazard. *tr
Vehicle stalls and kills after refueling. it happens before even leaving the pump and/or once driving has started. it takes a few miles or some time before it's normal again. if it's sitting idle, you can hear it struggling before a burst in rpm's leading to a stall. sometimes it starts right back up. sometimes it doesn't for a while. *tr
My car has stalled 3 separate times right after i have re-fueled. when driving away from the gas station and onto the street it has sputtered and then turned off in the middle of the street. my vehicle will constantly turn off making it unsafe to drive it. i have once been in the middle of the intersection when my vehicle stalled, i am lucky i was not struck by another vehicle. but as you can see it is extremely dangerous having this happen when driving. *tr
Vehicle stopped after filling with gas. started up again and shut down right away. this happens frequently after filling up with gas. could only put in one incident but this is an on going issue. it appears there is an agreement in hand for correction why isn't it published? *js
