We have classified the 126 complaints from 2006 Dodge Charger about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the oil pressure warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.
Vehicle jerks while driving as if something is starting to die or go out, then starts running again. only appears to happen after filling the fuel tank to completely full. vehicle will stall out within several feet after fueling up, then restart and you're good to go. you drive maybe an eighth of a mile and as you slow to a stop, the car will stall out and die again. usually fine for the rest of the evening. vehicle eventually shuts off when i come to a near stop or am stopped. oil lamp light turns on when the car dies. tried restarting twice, but was unsuccessful. took the key out of the ignition, then waited a few minutes. tried to start the engine again and was successful. it seems extremely unsafe to drive like this, but it seems i have to drive long enough to burn off some gas to keep the gas tank under full at all times to avoid this problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving at 55 mph, all the electrical functions failed and all the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart after five minutes. the failure recurred multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was not able to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000. ma 10/1 the consumer stated while driving at any speed, the vehicle would randomly stall; the rpm went to zero with no power at all. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer wanted to replace the computer. updated 12/24/15. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 113,000.
I was driving down the street it was night and my lights completely went out i couldn't see it still doing it at night going off. *tr
I learned about the fuel tank warranty and will be getting that repaired, but my issue is at 75 to 100% throttle my car will stall out. but my car starts back up on its own like nothing ever happened. when it stalls it throws you forward like the car is braking and then when it fires back up you can hit the throttle and it will go as normal. *tr
My car was using way too much gas compared to what it used to and was running poorly so i took it in for a tune up. the filters, plugs, fluids, etc. were done. about two weeks after the tune up i began to have trouble. at first i thought it was the shop that had done the tune up but after reading hundreds of letters from other people, i know now that it is the car. this is what happens: when i began to accelerate after stopping at stop sign, my car lost all power and died within two blocks of the stop sign. the car started up and seemed fine. approximately a week and a half later, again, i was accelerating from a stop sign and the car stalled about 4 blocks from the stop sign. this continued to happen intermittently until september15, 2014, when the car died when i was approaching the stop sign and had to be towed. i have 5 grandchildren that i transport daily and this car is just not safe to do so anymore. thank goodness i have not gone out of town with a car load of children and have this happen.
2006 dodge charger. consumer writes in regards to faulty ignition switch. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle had a transmission leak, and it shuddered, the sun roof rattled and the side trim fell off. a former transmission specialist, informed the consumer, the condensation drain for the air condition dripped onto the transmission and pooled around the transmission filler tube. when the vehicle reached a 140,000 miles, it began emitting white smoke, to the point where the consumer was unable to see out of his rear view mirror. an inspection revealed the valve seat of the #3 cylinder had dropped out, smashing two large holes one on each side of the piston, the size of a quarter. there was also a hairline crack across the apex of the piston hole-to-hole, the debris had pummeled the cylinder head. also, debris from the damage had been sucked back into the inlet manifold depositing metal chunks into the #1 and #2 cylinders damaging the pistons and heads with small chunks of metal embedded in them. *jb updated 08/28/14
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, the contact mentioned that the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
All of the lights light up and the needles move up/down on the dashboard intermittently for like 3-4 seconds and normally does this twice consecutively and this appears to happen randomly. *tr
Since 4-7-14 thru 7-16-14 the dealership has replaced two fuel tanks ( according to extended lifetime coverage letter dated may 8,2014), o2 sensor, transmission module, spark plugs, ignition coils and disconnected the remote starter. the car continues to stall and shutoff. *tr
We were driving on the freeway and we slowed down for traffic. we were going about 25 miles an hour when we got hit from behind. the car was going 40 to 50 miles an hour. the whole dash - stereo and etc came apart but neither the driver or passenger airbag deployed?? i just bought the car from a dealership in september 2013 so everything should have been in working order. *tr
Every time the vehicle gas tank is filled, the engine stalls shortly after driving away. it requires several cranks of the engine to get started again. after the engine is restarted, driving /idle is rough for some amount of time before returning to normal. this happens all the time. this is very dangerous as the car stalls on me in traffic and merging on to the freeway after filling up at any gas station. *tr
I was going down the high way and the car just shut off and then came back on like nothing happen they really need to recall this and it a hemi 5.7 daytona. *tr
Car will stall at idle or when starting to accelerate car will cut off by it self and then restart. *tr
I had just filled my gas tank and pulled on to a busy road. as i approached the stoplight the vehicle just died. it did not start right back up , it took 3 different tries. this has now happened 4 times. all times were after i filled up at the gas station. *tr
The car shut off completely while driving right after refueling and leaving the gas station. it shut off 3 more times after that. *tr
This vehicle has been flawless since purchased new in 2006. in nov. 2013 it stalled when backing out of the garage. restarted vehicle and was fine for 5 miles then stalled again. ever since then the problem has increased in frequency and almost caused multiple accidents due to the vehicle stalling when crossing intersections or merging onto highways. i have not driven this car in months due to this as it is not safe for me or other drivers on the road. i have spent close to $2,000.00 in multiple attempts to fix this vehicle following repair manual procedures via the dealer. i have had the pcm, replaced twice (first one was defective right out of the box), tcm replaced, battery replaced, throttle body replaced, map sensor replaced, asd relay replaced and spark plugs replaced with zero improvements. i used to enjoy this vehicle and now it is a death trap with the way it is behaving. something needs to be done as there are tens of thousands of these vehicles on the road exhibiting the same symptoms and dealer techs unable to properly diagnose and repair them. *tr
I just finished refueling almost to full. vehicle started perfectly. drove approximately 2 blocks at 15 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off. it took 3 attempts to restart. i drove approximately 4 more blocks at 15 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off again. i had the vehicle towed to the repair shop that i use. the mechanic at the shop drove the vehicle. the vehicle stalled and shut off 2 times while the mechanic drove it. vehicle was scanned for codes. no codes were displayed. the mechanic cleaned out the throttle body. vehicle has been operating perfect since that time. one other note. one month prior, with 3/4 tank of fuel, fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and chiming sound began ringing for approximately 10 seconds. vehicle did not stall or shut off. fuel gauge then suddenly returned to 3/4 full and chiming sound stopped ringing. *tr
This has been an on-going problem that we've been chasing for several years. the car will stall while driving, usually without warning sometimes the gauges will drop and the warning "ding" will sound. most of the time the car will restart, however there has been instances that it has to sit for awhile before restarting. in any case, it is a safety concern since it will stall while driving. i've had it happen on the highway as well as on city streets. there are times in which we have to restart the car multiple times in order to get the gauges and headlights to turn on when this happens the tail lights, and brake lights don't work either. it is clear there is an electrical issue with these cars, i hope dodge takes care of their customers and resolves the issues that are occurring before someone gets killed. *tr
Car died in intersection. happened twice. it stalls, chokes and dies then has problems restarting takes about 3-4 tries then restarts. very dangerous and accident causing. *tr
A quarter of the way through my turn to enter i-10 my car completely lost power and shut off out of the blue without warning!! i had to coast across 3 lanes of traffic praying my son and i wouldn't get into an accident. once on the side of the rode i turned the key off, waited a second then turned it again to have the car start right up and be fine the rest of the way home. this is not the first time this has happened. research has revealed this is a common problem which needs to be addresses before someone is killed!! strongly urging nhtsa to launch an investigation into dodge/chrysler. *js
Car stalls out and loss of power while stopping for stop light. oil light comes on after stalling out but no engine light or fault code shows up. car usually starts up right away but does take a couple of tries at times. car also jerks around like starving for fuel. had a tune up done, fuel system cleaned and was told that the shop could not duplicate the problem. this is very discerning to myself and my family due to safety. a car that stalls for no reason or warning is a huge safety issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel lines needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 250,000.
While driving with cruise control on the car just stalled out for about 3-5 seconds and kicked back on. this has now become more frequent and also stalls while stopped now. i have spent over 1300$ trouble shooting and going back and forth to the mechanic. only to start searching and came across this investigation. i just want the car to run correctly.
I purchased this 2006 dodge charger r/t from a dealership in woodland, ca immediately after leaving the lot i drove approx. 20 miles on my way home the car started stalling while i was driving on the freeway, i will be driving along and it will suddenly jerk and lose all power for a split second (if someone was riding my bumper it would have been an accident for sure) as it lost power the rpm gauge went all the way down and jumped back up as if the car died completely and restarted itself, it chimed even as if i had just started the car. i have researched this issue online and see its a very common problem to no avail. i took my car to the dealership in my hometown and they could not find the problem, said it was spark plugs etc i ended up spending $550 and its still stalling sometimes up to 15-20 times a day its very dangerous unfortunately the car is out of warranty and i cant afford to keep dishing money out to dodge. i seriously believe this is a common issue with dodge and chrysler vehicles as i've seen online very many people having this same problem but there's no solution as far as i can find! im kinda scared to drive the car like this but its my only means of transportation so this needs to be looked into!! its dangerous! *tr
Vehicle stalled again today (october 19th, 2013) with no warning while making a left-hand turn at a major intersection. filled up earlier today with no top off. has happened multiple times prior since (may 2013). dealer can not diagnose. normally happens after fuel fill up. after complaining multiple times to the dealer, replaced all spark plugs and performed a transmission flush and re flashed the pcm at my expense, despite having warranty coverage through 2015 120k miles because they could not repeat the problem on a 5 minute test drive. the vehicle stalled again two days later. after more visits no solution has been met and this car is extremely unsafe. *tr
While driving on the highway going 60mph in the center lane during busy traffic and it was dark, the vehicle just shut completely off. i also had a my 14 month baby in the car. there was lost of power, steering was lost. i had to shift it in neutral and glide to the shoulder lane almost being hit by a truck. i turned the key off and tried to restart the car, after a few attempts the car started, when i shifted it in drive and proceeded to try and get back on the road it shut off again. the engine, abs, traction control & electrical light was on. i tried restarting it and it started and drove like nothing had happened, even the lights were no longer on. i took it to the shop and they ran diagnostics and tried to duplicate the problem, they couldn't help me and says that until it happens again they can't do anything. i called the dealership and they said the same thing, they said that they have never heard of this happening. they said they would keep my vehicle and try to figure out what is going on, if they don't find anything than they would keep it and try to duplicate the problem and i could be without my car until they figure it out. since the first incident it has happened at lease 10 more times. i researched it online and there are multiple cases of this happening with chrysler vehicles. there is now an investigation ongoing but until then many owners have to deal with this problem or go without their vehicle. many have said that it happened after refueling their car, for me it has happened a couple of times after refueling, but multiple times while it was at 1/2 and 1/4 tank. a really bad accident to include serious injuries and or death to the driver can happen and what will happen then? before this occurs something needs to be done immediately and the company should pay for the repairs to correct his issue. a recall needs to be issued immediately! *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7. at least once per day (and often much more often), during acceleration, car will go into "limp" mode, where the engine or transmission will stop producing power to the wheels. engine light will "ding" and rpm will drop from acceleration rpm down to about 2000 rpm and cause the car to hesitate, creating an especially dangerous situation on highway merging. car will come back on line after about 1-2 seconds, and run normally. the more i push the acceleration, the more likely to occur. also, car will simply stall at low speeds or while in idle. i bought the car about 30 days ago, and reported to the dealership immediately, and they duplicated the issue. they thought it could be a short, but after 3 hours labor (they covered this cost), did not correct it. they do not know what it is, and are next looking into a torque converter possibility, and also looking at the throttle body. not sure at this time if they will come good for the fix in the long term. this stalling loss of power and going into "limp mode" seems to be excessively common on these cars, according to blogs and dodge sites online. while the local dealership has been extremely helpful and great work with so far, this should fall on dodge itself, not the dealer, to make good for, as it seems to be a prevalent and dangerous issue. very dangerous situation, and dodge/chrysler should make this right for everyone. *tr
Shortly after filling the vehicle with fuel one day, it began to stall out when stopped. while traveling at highway speeds it seems to momentarily lose electrical and mechanical power, then a warning sound will chime and everything returns to normal... temporarily. however, while on a road trip and traveling at speeds over 70mph with cruise control on, we didn't experience any of these symptoms until we had to reduce our speed when approaching towns. also, the cruise control will shut off if it is being used when "power surge" happens and has to be manually reset. *tr
As i was driving across the desert on i-10 in arizona, all of a sudden my car lost all engine power. the lights on the dash chimed, my rpms dropped to zero, then just as suddenly they all went right back to normal and the engine jerked us forward as the tranny figured out what gear it belonged in. it started like that, only happening on occasion. now, i can't make it more than 1-2 miles (literally) without stalling out or losing engine fire. if it happens when i'm at a low mph the car just stalls out and died. no power steering or brakes, but the lights and radio are working. on the hwy at higher speeds, it lurches as described above. on the on-ramp, however, it becomes a life or death situation, especially when starting on a downhill ramp with a big rig wailing up behind me. i have been missed by truly only inches on multiple occasions. i can't afford a new car, they can't find what's wrong with mine, and i can't sell a vehicle that won't make it for a test drive. can we please get a fix? answers? wasn't it my tax dollars that bought this company out of bankruptcy? *tr
Took car to the dealership for tune-up;and transmission service on march13, 2013; on april 17, 2013 the car totally shutdown as i turned into the gas station. i got it started, it jerked as if it was choking,i managed to get to the dealership and it shut down again, just before i made it up to the service lane at the dealership. i was told that the rear axle seals were leaking, which i had repaired, also that an updated memory chip should have been installed in march,so that was done. pickup my car on april 18, 2013 and while sitting in traffic, the car was shaking and felt as though it was about to cutoff. i put in park while at the traffic light and pressed on the gas to raise the engine;as i turned into my driveway, it stalled again. i took it back to the dealership, they initially said there was a coil that was misfiring but the diagnostic machine could not detect it. i picked my car up on april 25, 2013 only to have something electrically draining my battery down to 4 or 5 volts every other day. took it back to the dealership, technician said their diagnostic machine couldn't find any problems with the battery, alternator nor any of electrical parts. i had no problems with my car prior to having the above services done. after speaking with a mechanic, i was told that i am not the only person having these type of problems, especially after a new software chip has been installed. perhaps this and other issues need to really be addressed with chrysler. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after turning the key in the ignition, he heard a loud abnormal noise. the contact inspected the vehicle and saw that the battery had exploded without warning. the contact unhooked the faulty battery and replaced it with a new one. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileages were approximately 105,000.
After filling up the fuel tank, leaving the gas station the car stalled out several times. first out of the gas station , then 2 more times while getting on the freeway. very nerve racking. this has been a consistent situation everytime i have filled up for the last several months. i have not been able to use the vehicle to travel back and forth to work or other business needs. not real happy right now. have contact dealer and waiting response. *tr
When traveling at hwy. speed the car loses power and shuts off and back on by itself. if im stopped at a red light and it does it i have to put it in park and crank it back up but then it takes a 10-15 seconds before it will go into gear. the problem use to happen once or twice in a day and then it may be 2 weeks before it would happen again. now the car is not drivable as it does this constant. i got a new front control module and drove it about 20 miles and it started again. *tr
Car began going into limp mode while driving down the road or coming to a stop and restarting. now throws engine lights for cylinder 3 and cylinder 4 misfire. *tr
My car has had multiple occurrences where i am sitting at a stoplight in traffic and the car will suddenly shut off for no reason. this usually occurs after i fill the gas tank completely full after a trip to the gas station. my car has also done this while the car is moving. this has happened up to 70 mph while trying to pass another vehicle. the car actually "coughed" then just sort of stalling, suddenly started performing normally. this vehicle has stalled so many times at stoplights in traffic that my wife is afraid to drive it anymore. my local chrysler dealer has installed two different transmission control modules in the car in an attempt to fix the problem, but to no avail. i have noticed that since i have stopped filling the gas tank completely full that the stalling has stopped. *tr
While driving in traffic at 55 mph engine would shut off and restart without turning the key. took to dealership could not find anything. while driving off the lot vehicle stalled and started back up again without turning the key. dealership had it for two weeks. felt that after market starter was causing the issue. doing it again 3 months later while driving would shut off but now you must pull over and physically turn the key to restart. will do it at any speed.
I turned my key over and the battery exploded. both caps were blown against the fiberglass lid in the trunk. battery was split across the front and side. battery acid covered the underside of the trunk area. white odorless smoke came out of the trunk area. *tr
At least three times my 5.7 liter hemi has stalled while driving. it has always stalled at low speeds (i.e. under 35 mph) and sometimes as slow as 15. every time is has occurred while driving from stoplight to stoplight with a light throttle application. it has occurred at least once after filling up. i also don't know if this is related, but probably between 6-10 times now while driving at highway speeds (50-70 mph) the entire dashboard (i.e. tach, speedometer, engine temp, and fuel gage) all die. what happens is they all seem to lose power, all needles fall to 0, or their turned off position, then once they hit the stops they all power back up again, swing back to where they were, all the warning lights come on, and then extinguish after a couple of seconds. this entire time there is not change in speed, or the engine, when i am in cruise control, this does not seem to affect the cruise control. *tr
I was traveling on the highway and my car stalled and had to coast to the shoulder in august 2012. this again happened may 2013. the last incident occurred september 21st pulling out of a parking lot. the car started back up after each occasion. *tr
I was driving my vehicle and it started smoking i pulled over . called mechanic had it towed to the shop where he later told me the motor was blown . second incident there's a beeping sound and all my gauges keeping going crazy on me .third incident that pink piece inside the gear shift actual was stuck and came lose so it was removed and the car is able to be put into gear . *tr
I turned my ignition key to start the vehicle and heard an explosion in the rear of the vehicle. i opened my trunk with the key because the vehicle lost all electrical power. i discovered that the battery had exploded and sprayed battery acid in the trunk area. the trunk was filled with white smoke and smelled like chemicals. my property inside the passenger compartment also had a strong chemical odor to it. after looking at the battery, it appeared to have exploded from the rear and the main thing that kept it from sending acid soaked debris was the nylon strap that holds the battery in place. i am worried that the entire interior of my vehicle is now coated with acid fumes/powder from the explosion. i spoke with huntington beach dodge and they said i was responsible for all costs of repairs because the battery only has a 12 month/12k mile warranty. i understand that a battery goes dead, but i do not understand a battery exploding! my 2 children were not in the back seat at the time of the explosion, but what could have been the injury to my kids if they were there? battery acid in the face and eyes, acid soaked debris striking them or hearing loss from the explosion? i don't feel comfortable with driving the vehicle or having my children in it. mcpeek dodge in anaheim replaced the battery and cleaned the trunk at a cost of $250.00 (20% discount they said), but stated that they were unable to determine the reason for the incident. *tr
I got off work started car put on seat belt. put foot on brake and tried to move gear shift it wouldnt move out of park. there are so many complaints of this issue. *tr
I was driving the car at 60mph on the expressway when the engine quit with no warning causing the car to lose all power in heavy traffic. my car was nearly hit several times by other cars as i tried to change lanes in order to reach the emergency lane on the right side of the expressway. i restarted the car with no problems. the car engine has quit for no reason several other times with no warning in the last year while driving at different speeds. the manufacturer needs issue a recall, or be liable for any lawsuits resulting from accidents caused by defective fuel systems in these vehicles. *tr
The abs, brake and traction control lights came on. then when you hit the brakes you would feel a vibration. the brakes do not vibrate any more but all the lights are still on. there was a recall for the 2007 charger for this but not the 2006. *tr
While attempting to accelerate the car will fail hesitate in the 5.7l hemi. also the check engine light flashes and the notification sounds beeps. check engine light does not remain on. failure to accelerate in any circumstances can result in collision including serious bodily injury or death. upon doing research (you can google this easily) this is a common problem associated with the powertrain control module which dodge has refused to acknowledge. this defective part/programming is most definitely not general wear and tear and should be a mandated recall prior to injury/death. *tr
Recently i started having an issue with my charger. upon entering a high way and attempting to merge with traffic during morning rush hour, my car lost all power upon acceleration. the engine did not stall but the tachometer dropped to near zero, the engine light and power light flashed briefly and then returned to normal. i attempted to accelerate again and same thing happened. fortunately i was able to avoid a pretty significant accident with the cars behind me and the ones i was merging on to the highway with. the symptoms disappeared for a few weeks and then started again and progressively became worse. i brought the car to the dealer that investigated and found it to be the power control module which turned out to be quite expensive. i did some research on a forum that i belong to and found many instances of this. contacted chrysler and simply put they did not seem to care. there are many defects on this year of charger and not one of them has ever been covered, at least the ones that i have. i consider this latest incident to be serious safety problem and hope that it gets investigated. as for another chrysler product, never again in my lifetime. i rely on my vehicle for work and this is by far the worst that i have ever owned. please look into this before someone has to start checking off accident and death when submitting a form. *tr
While driving approximately 60 m.p.h. on the freeway, all engine lights came on and the needles all dropped. they quickly returned to normal and the engine did not falter, radio did not go off, etc. this has happened several times over the course of 2 months and i took it to the station where they could find nothing wrong. about 2 months later, the headlights began to flicker on and off, sometimes for 10 seconds or more. this has been happening for about 4 days. i checked all the fuses and they appear secure. the car is currently back at the station to be checked again. as it is december, i can't be without headlights on my morning and evening commute to/from work. *tr
While driving my 2006 dodge charger, it died as i was turning. the steering wheel locked on me completely. i took it in to our local dodge service center and they said they could not find anything wrong with it. a month and a half later the same problem happens, this time while stopped at a red light on our local highway. we have taken it back to the same dodge service center and they still cannot find anything wrong with it. i have been researching on line and this is a common problem with dodge vehicles. if they do not fix this and this causes an accident which injures one of my family members i will be suing dodge! this will turn into a class action lawsuit. *kb
