Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2006 Dodge Charger

I was driving down the road and my lights turned off my headlights and dash lights had to hold my brights on because they wouldnt stay on by themselves, my dash speedometers had kept going up and down as if my car was dying almost hit a deer due to no headlights and driving at night.

I have 2 problems. first while driving all my warning lights will flash on then go right off. another problem i have is my car will turn over and sometimes start but die immediately. once i get it started it will go fine for a while before doing it again. by the looks of my research both problems are pretty common in 2006 chargers.

I took my 06 charger in for airbag recall and when i left the dealer my car shut off at every lights and shut off in the middle of going 40 50 miles an hour. it continues to do that more and more everyday. i've read on the internet about so many of the 6th generation dodge chrysler products doing this exact same thing. i can understand why a problem that causes you to stall out in the middle of a busy intersection is not addressed. first it start telling me that it was electronic throttle control problem, then it's now telling me that is a problem between the throttle control module and the ecm. this happened exactly one minute after i left the dealer getting my airbags recalled. it stalls at when stationary, when moving, in the middle of the street, and every couple minutes. i know i am not alone with this problem but i don't understand why nothing is being addressed.

While was trying to turn into parking spot my charger suddenly died. when turned the car back on was able to start right back up. this has been happening more when tryong to turn the wheel all the way from a stop position or moving. have almost been hit a few times when it just stops

-the sunroof will not always close all the way. it will reopen itself upon exiting -my car stalls often whenever i accelerate, it seems the gas has to "catch up" this uncomfortable/unsafe.) home. also, it is embarrassing for my car to 'conk out'. - i am

After filling up with fuel my charger will stall. it has happened 5 or 6 separate occasions over the past 2 years. i generally do not fill the car up all the way because of this. however just today i had the same problem after accidentally filling it. i do not top off the car when filling once the nozzle clicks off i stop. today after getting gas i went to pull out into traffic and the car stalled. the power steering would not work the engine shut off and i was stranded halfway out into the lane of oncoming traffic. i put the car in park and restarted it and drove about 20 feet before it shut off again. this is a huge safety issue. i thought i was going to be hit. i did manage to get the car home which is about two miles away but i had to restart it four more times. i've got roughly 80,000 miles on the car i have always kept up with maintenance and with any repairs that needed to be done. i searched online to see if there was a recall for this problem but there doesn't seem to be even though a lot of people seem to be having the same problem not only with the chargers but with three hundreds as well

My son's car caught fire after he had parked it for the night. after 10 minutes he was called at his apartment by a friend who told him his car was on fire. there were no warning signs whatsoever. no warning lights, unusual smells, or hints of impending doom for his car.

Transmission and car computer are not working together properly, making the transmission shut off as i drive the car. can happen at a red light, in the highway, even when it's parked. brought it to several mechanics no one could fix it. called the dealership and they claim no open recall but yet the car only has 89k miles. was built wrong off the line if you ask me.

Engine shuts off while driving

There is something going on with the electrical system which causes the instrument cluster to completely shut down and lights to flicker when driving. usually happens when car heater is on or driving for a long period of time. i have a video of the issue and showed it to cerritos dodge service department but they didnt acknowledge issue.

Two years ago i had to replace the engine while driving the car all the lights came on and it lost power while driving at approximately 40 mph. yesterday while on the highway going 65 mph the car lost power. this is very unsafe especially on the highway.

Theres seems to be a short in the electrical system which cause the instrument cluster to completely shut down and light to flicker when driving. usually happens when car heater is on or driving for a long period of time. dealer will not acknowledge issue very known problem on the internet boards with charger owners.

My 2006 dodge charger hemi police interceptor i purchased from the state of oregon at 137,000 randomly dies. the lightning bolt warning light comes on. the electronic throttle control code comes on. the car has been to the dealer and the pcm $750 has been replaced and the plugs $350 have been replaced as well. i also get tcm codes. my car has died at very dangerous times, when passing or merging into traffic. the dealer doesn't know what's causing it.

The vehicle will stall at a stop sign or stop light. the lights will flicker and the gauges will go to the max amounts and then back to zero. the car restarts and runs fine after this happens, but it keeps reoccurring.

Car shuts down completely while driving. check engine light comes on along with a red lighting bolt. went to dodge dealership & they ran diagnostics no code came up. they did replace fuel tank from a previous recall. got car back & immediately stalled again. carried car back & they ran diagnostic while driving & code came up to replace computer. replaced & programmed computer & car is still doing it. dodge states that they do not know what the problem is.

The car stalled while i was driving at about 50-55 mph. everything went out. eventually the car started. now, when i stop at a stop light or stop sign it stalls out. i have not received a warning light and i have had the vehicle checked with a computer. there are no lights on the dash indicating there is a problem.

2006 dodge charges with 5.7 hemi v8 - experiencing random stalling. happens at any speed. everything shuts off including the power steering and abs. first happened while merging onto freeway and i had to drive off the road to avoid a semi-truck. this happened with my young child in the vehicle. i had the gas tank, fuel canister, and purge valve replaced. the problem still occurs regardless of the amount of gas in the vehicle and regardless of when it was refueled. even though this appears to be a common problem the dealership has been no help and even tried charging me for unnecessary diagnostics. car does not flash a code so after replacing what was supposed to fix the issue, driving the vehicle is the only way to find out if it is fixed. this has lead to a few dangerous close calls. please look into this issue before people get hurt because this is a serious problem. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have a 2006 dodge charger that shuts off while driving. vehicle has 97284 miles. i currently have the vehicle in for repair at phillips chrysler dodge jeep in ocala fl. the pcm has been replaced but this issue still continues. vehicle shuts off with out warning while driving.

My car's engine stalls without warning while driving. i had problems with this when i bought the car within the same week from a used car dealer. it now affects my headlights by making them flash on and off while driving. the car has been in and out of the shop for the past year and no one can seem to find the issue. there is a past time device installed which interfered with the security system. the dealership took out the security system and shortly thereafter the engine stalls began. engine stalls occur while driving or stopped at traffic lights. it happens randomly but not often. the headlights happen everyday and is getting worse. the vehicle is becoming undrivable but no service tech can find the issue.

Horn starts blowing while car is turned off and no keys in the ignition and drains the battery. most recent was sunday june 5th 2016 at approximately 2am while i was asleep in bed. the neighbors were not happy.

The car will shut off randomly, the error code keeps pointing back to the ecm and i have had that replaced now it is doing it again and there is no warning when it happens on the freeway it jolts like it wants to shutoff but it doesn't the rpm's go down and it revs back up, it started just with it having the rpm's go down and rev back up randomly and its been happening for 2 years now it just shuts off and starts back up immediately but sometimes ill drive a couple feet and it will die again. it has been in and out of the shop for the last 8 months. they have sent the computer back to have it analysed and to repair the new one i got now. when driving it also shuts off and then just starts up back by itself. i see this everywhere on the internet and forums, some say ecm needs to be replaced other say the fuel tank and the other says something about the key fob not recognizing the key. i want this investigated and a recall to be issued. from everyone i have spoken to every single 2006 dodge charger has this problem with the 5.7 lt with the hemi.

When driving on the interstate at 70 miles per hour the car stalled like it was loosing power and the started back like everything was fine the car started doing this many times while driving also when at a stop sign or stop lights it will just die most the time it will start right back up or may take a few min and when sitting in park the oil light come on and just beeps non stop the interior lights also will flicker on and off while driving. *tr

While driving my headlights, and parking lights flicker like a christmas tree or sometimes just go out, for a few seconds. i notice this happens in the cold weather especially.

Several times while in motion, the dash lights blink and power is lost. sometimes it will continue to run and sometimes it will not move. on other days it runs just fine. there are no codes that flash and the check engine light does not stay on except for when the dash lights are flashing. a simple search will verify with many other people that this is happening alot. it is not the fuel tank problem. it happens while still and happens while in motion. a while back i was trying to cross a busy intersection and it happeden at that point. it has been going on for a while since about 50,000 miles and we are at 80,000 now.. it stays parked alot for being 10 yrs old.

I have complained on this vehicle multiple times now. it continues to have a randomly stalling engine while driving. the dealership claims it is not the gas tank. it has finally started causing the check engine light to come on (yay! it might actually get fixed). just kidding! the dealership states that the codes that show up are general pcm codes that mean nothing. from online research, it appears it may be an electrical issue with the pcm, ecm, or numerous other parts. either way, most of us go without cars for weeks while mechanics cannot find the actual cause thus cannot fix a dangerous vehicle. most of us don't want to drive vehicles that stall while going 40 mph.

My dash lights and gauges inside all flicker off and on and drop to zero. the car feels like it looses power, it's very dangerous to drive and nobody seems to have a fix. for it, not a definitive answer. my out side lights would flicker on and off as well, but i replaced my light switch and it feels like this is just a temporary fix.

I got my fuel tank replaced under warranty (new fuel tank & o-ring part #s: cnstx531aa and cnstx532aa) and now stalling is worse than before. engine wants to stall anywhere from 0-30 mph now whether the tank is full, half empty or near empty. the car's stalling can be prevented by providing quick acceleration, which will temporary fix the issue, only to have it come back later. the choice between stalling at high speeds and losing power steering & other necessities, or quickly accelerating to prevent a stall, leave drivers with two unsafe, dangerous choices each. the fuel tank recall did not remedy the issue. if anything, it made it worse, more dangerous, and made a minor defect/annoyance into a serious problem that can not be "burnt off" like the excess gas in the previous fuel tank. dealerships give us the run around. saying they either don't have the piece, or they refuse to replace it because we already have the new, yet still faulty, fuel tank. it's becoming a serious issue with no real remedy in sight. the dealership blames chrysler/dodge and chrysler/dodge blames the dealership. the two point fingers and scapegoat each other, leaving the customer to either replace everything out-of-pocket or drive a seriously impaired and dangerous vehicle. i went in to the dealership with two minor dtc codes that i planned on repairing (they were nonimmediate and not serious) and left the dealership with 15 codes. chrysler even gave me a "case manager" for this, but the case manager said all they can do is rely on the dealership's diagnostics... literally just a waste of time. why even assign a case manager? i took the car in to replace the fuel tank since it was under warranty (aka free)... i'm a college student with no finances for repair. now, i'm left with a faulty, unsafe, nearly inoperable vehicle with no other means of transportation. someone needs to step in.

My car is shutting off while driving causing unsafe driving conditions. i have checked numerous forums and many people are having this same issue. this could result in a fatality. i was driving and my car just shut off the power steering went out i was not able to start the care again until i got it back in park. it has happened 2 times now.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving approximately 15 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front passenger side of the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. the front seat passenger sustained injuries to the right arm and the driver sustained a back injury that required medical attention. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the body of the vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. on another occasion, while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel box overheated and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v313000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 200,000. vin confirms parts not available.

This problem started about a year age. at first it was once ever 3 months now it happening more often. on 1/14/2014 after filling the gas tank the car stalled nearly being rear ended on the expressway. this problem getting worse and worse everytime. this problem is going to take someone's life in an accident. *tr

While driving from point a to point b approximately 17 miles, this vehicle stalled 7 times. mostly stalling while at a light it has increased to while driving as well. one time specific in the middle of an intersection causing a back up in traffic and near accident. while understanding this issue has mainly been investigated and reported after fill up, this instance is not. this is a daily issue that demands attention. mechanical techs cannot figure out what the problem is even after replacing the engine and transmission. according to my research this apparently has happen enough without resolution but how many close calls are going to turn to fatalities before something is done? it shouldn't have to come to injuries or worse for this common problem to be resolved. thank you for your time. *tr

I was driving my car on 1/1/2015 and it just cut off and wouldn't crank back, i was glad i was turning on my street, and the back right e- brakes came apart and tore up, when i also make a right or left turn the steering section makes a funny noise, and the engine light will not cut off. i am on disability and receive very low income of $721 and i am taking care of two children out of that and i am 59 years old, so can you all please help me get my car back on the road, please. *tr

I was driving at night and my car lights went out. the car just died on me in the middle of the street. this car is not safe to drive. dodge should fix this issue before someone is killed. *tr

Car locked in park in the driveway. while driving in the rain all the dash lights flickered for 2-3 seconds then all lights and gauges shut down this included the headlights as well. while driving 55 miles per hour the car shut itself off i was in heavy traffic at the time. car is now at the dealership again they cannot find the problem. i still have the same problems with dash lights flickering and the car stopping. don't know if anyone else is having this problem but the car will also surge forward at a high rate of speed like i have stepped on the gas but my foot would be on the brake. this has happened several times and it scares me to death. these are safety issues that need to be corrected by the manufacture. dealerships are aware of these issues and have done nothing to correct the problems. this will be the last dodge i purchase even though i like to buy american made. an investigation should be done with so many complaints. i will be calling detroit with these issues. *tr

The headlights on my car started flashing almost every time i turn them on, and this is forcing me to not be able to drive at night. it started with a flash on 12/2/2014, and now it occurs every time i drive the vehicle. i have been told that it could be anything in the front end causing a short and have checked for recalls but this is not a determined recall at this time. the dealership has been no help and wants to charge extra money just to look at it. considering i have seen many other drivers with the same make/ model/ year vehicle in car forums and blogs regarding this very same issue, i'm hoping this report will help push for an investigation as i have to drive for my employment and do not want to get a traffic ticket for faulty equipment. *tr

2006 dodge charger r/t daytona. i noticed a lurch in the vehicle yesterday as i was coming home from work as well as the speakers turning off/on. this morning as the vehicle was idling at a stop light, the dashboard turned off, vehicle chimed and all gauges went to zero, but the vehicle was still running and was able to accelerate without displaying any indication on gauges. after about 10-15 seconds, gauges returned to normal as if the vehicle had restarted. happened twice within 20 min while vehicle was idling in traffic. never did it seem that the engine had shut down. *tr
