We have classified the 126 complaints from 2006 Dodge Charger about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Driving to the beach, suddenly all warning lights on dashboard came on, then engine shut off, loss of power, then thick white smoke coming from hood, then flames underneath the car, then within a minute the car was completely engulfed, destroying the engine compartment, and front seat, dashboard & windshield blew out... scariest thing ever.! i nearly escaped in time, lucky to have not been burned, lucky i got out alive... there should be a recall dodge charger r/t hemi, 2006 (5.7 liter) *kb
In july 2011 i brought my 2006 charger sxt to the dealer for a rear harness (the one from the fuse block to the brain box) replacement due to a gator aid incident (another story) it was replaced due to the instrument cluster gauges going to zero while driving and all the dummie lights coming on with acceleration diminishing. now the problem is back. i really don't want it to happen while i'm on the freeway and a semi coming down on me. while researching this issue it seems that i'm not the only one with this problem. is dodge going to wait on a few major accidents to happen before this issue is cleared or is big money more important than saving somebody's life. *tr
About 1 year ago as i was driving along interstate 95 the instrument needles all went to 0 or far left then went back to normal immediately. as time went on this occurred more frequently. about six months later as i was driving at night the needles dropped off and the head lights went off and stayed off until i switched from the auto position to the manual on position. the next time it happened i was at a stop light and the car cut off in the middle of the road. i called a police officer because i thought i might get rear-ended. after about 5 minutes the car started but ran rough. just this past weekend while driving at night in a parking lot the needles dropped off, the headlights went out, and the brakes malfunctioned. *tr
While driving, all the lights on the dashboard light up simultaneously and then go dark (all of them). at the same time, all the gauges drop to zero, bounce to their max and then drop to a null state again. after this blinking event happens a few times, all of the monitoring systems and gauges return to a working state. when this happens, it does not seem to affect the driveability of the car (brakes, trans, etc. all still function). the first time it happened, it caused great concern for safety, as well as significant distraction while under way. the original date and mileage are estimated.
Since i purchased my car in 2007 (2nd owner) while driving down the road my instrument panel goes dead. i have brought this to the dealership on 6 occasions only for them to tell me they can't duplicate the problem. it is now going to be 2011 and the electrical system panel still shuts down unexpectedly. *tr
2006 dodge charger -- for no apparent reason all dashboard lights and brake lights flicker and go out every once in a while, and some times the engine stalls. some times the alarm goes on with brake light on/off problem. i turned battery kill switch off and on, it started the stalled engine. i pulled and pushed the emergency brake lever, it helped; but i will watch it for recurrance. the engine stalling problem may be a ticking time bomb. nhtsa, please do something about it. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger 3.5l.the head lights and tail lights keep going out. i turn the switch on and the lights may come on and then go off. i turn the switch to cut the lights off and come on and then go off. this is just crazy. car only has 70k miles on it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving 40 mph, the contact noticed smoke being emittion from under the hood. the contact inspected and saw fire sparks from the passenger side headlights around the wiring; the fire was working its way up to the motor and rest of the vehicle. the contact extinguished the fire and drove home. there were no injuries. the contact called the manufacturer who sent a representative to inspect; the contact was informed that they could not find the cause of the fire and could offer no assistance. the failure mileage was 80,000.
When i took my car in to the dealership i was never told i had to replace my battery. 10 20, 2009 i was at cvs store i got in my car started it then the battery blew completely up. it sounded like a boom. the store clerk ran out and on lookers told me the car was smoking from the trunk. in disbelief i ran back to the store to call the fire department asap. when the fire department opened the trunk sparks from the battery was beginning to start a fire. one gentleman from the fire department said he would have to cut the battery cable because it was electrical problems in the battery or else the car would explode because it was to close to gas pump. he told me i was very lucky because if the blast was any stronger it could have blown up the car completely if the fire sparks and gas collided. from the blast my neck jerked very hard and i am experiencing dizzy ness from the explosion and battery acid fumes and minor back pains. i would like to know what my legal rights or and option to get this issue resolved. at this time my car is completely damaged i have no electrical power at this time and my front windshield was cracked. i have no transportation wanted to see if dodge would take responsibility in this electrical system battery defect which almost cause me my life. *tr
Please help me prevent accidents and/or fatalities that will result from chrysler's refusal to address a dangerous situation. recently my 2006 dodge charger began stalling, numerous time, with the steering locking sometimes at a high rate of speed on a busy highway. a potentially disastrous situation for everyone on the road. my car's been towed to the dealer three times and the problem remains a mystery to the technicians. they've changed the powertrain control module (pcm), with no change. the car continues to intermittently register 'lost comm with the pcm' diagnostic trouble codes. at times the car performs flawless, and other times it stalls and won't restart sometimes for days. after much research i have found that this is a recurring problem with chargers, old and new, and one that many other owners suffer. a chrysler rep told me they were aware of a stall problem, but said that since they don't know the exact cause, there is nothing they will do unless the customer pays for expensive and experimental diagnoses. why is it up to the consumer to find a known problem that could kill motorists? when do they intend to address it? after a family is wiped out? this is a disaster waiting to happen. and a preventable one if we can convince chrysler to address the problem and affect a recall to fix it. chrysler's disregard for the american consumer at the very least, and toward the public at large at most, is alarming. i cannot fathom how an american corporation these days can so brashly turn a blind eye to a known and potentially dangerous situation. while coverup might be a strong word to apply this early in the game, lets not let it get to that point. please help me fix this. thank you again for your time, and keep fighting the good fight. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while test driving the vehicle, the contact noticed that one of the headlights was out. the dealer replaced the failed headlight. she later discovered that the turn signals were also inoperable. an independent mechanic found burned wires in the fuse box and electrical failure. no repairs were made at that time. on a separate occasion, the vehicle stalled and was towed to a dealer. the dealer stated that the wiring harness was defective and needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $500. the failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 32,000.
The alarm system failure. the car would not start. so i had to contact aaa and send a tow truck out. soon as the towtruck driver came out he sd it is the alarm system, even before we told him the problem. he sd that he have had a few dodge chargers towed with the same problem. so nw i have to see if dodge will fix it . but the problem is that i bought it used, and it is over 50k miles. so i have to find out if dodge will check it out for free and fix the problem or do i have to take it back to the dealership where i bought it from which was not a dodge dealership. *tr
I have owned my 2006 dodge charger v6 3.5l ho, for almost 2 years now and in that time the car has had the same problems that the dealers can't fix or even know what to do. i would go to start the car and it would crank up, turn over then cut back off. it would do that about three times before starting after i turn the radio off. it has also had about a 30 second pause when starting the car, in which there would be no engine cranking, no noise... just the dashboard lights and nothing else. i had to turn the key three times before i got it to start. the absolute worst is the car idles down like it wants to shut off while stopped in everyday traffic not to mention the previous 2 i stated before, happens in spurts. its been back to the dealership several times and i was told that the computer was returning "no codes" so they don't know what the problem is. they have tested the battery, ignition and they were all fine. *tr
I was driving when my car seemed to stall and start back. the most scariest times are on the freeway. i've been in the fast lane and had it happens car stalls and kicks back on. i've taken my car to dodge dealers and they can't figure it out. i love my car but i'm really getting sick of them not fixing the problem. i'm having the same problem as everyone else so i'm not going to type it up in detail. but there is no reason why a car can stall itself and restart back up with no trace it ever happen. it's dangerous to the driver and passengers and incoming traffic. my car has been checked from the engine own and its showing nothing. my car is currently at chapman dodge chrysler and jeep and i got the call today saying its nothing showing wrong. it seems its electrical because when it happens it loses power and when i starts back on it has a kick to it. i'm just asking for it to be fix before someone gets killed. *tr
An accident and or death waiting to happen. may 8, 2009. i am a mother with a now 1 yr. old child who travels 80% of the time in the back seat of my 2006 charger r/t with hemi 5.7l which now has 40,000 miles. since feb 2008 being 8 mths pregnant at the time with car having 23,723 miles i have repeatedly gone to potakin planet dodge in miami, fl complaining about an inconsistent problem with the car. it will shut off for no apparent reason at a red light (no warning lights before or after) it will shut off in the parking lot at 10-20 mph (no warning lights before or after) but the biggest fear is what i have experienced 2 times so far with the baby in the back seat! first time i was traveling 35 mph on the street and the 2 time i was traveling 65 mph on the highway and out of the blue the car stalls as if getting ready to shut off, you look at the dash and all gauges are beginning to drop, i step on the gas and the car has some trouble remembering what it should be doing (driving on the highway) and then proceeds as if nothing ever happened. the service dept. can not tell me why the car does this. the "16 point inspection" states the car is fine. no error codes come up. no "check engine" light either. this car is all i have to move around in for my girls and myself. i am in sooooo much shock to read all the complaints on the nhtsa website regarding this same problem and dodge does nothing. if something where to happen to my family or myself because of this malfunction that dodge is aware of and is doing nothing it is now noted here that i have been turning for over a year to resolve my issue just like everyone else with the same problem. stalling for no apparent reason. please. lets avoid an accident and or death waiting to happen! ! ! signed a desperate mother. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal. she immediately heard a beeping noise followed by excessive hesitation. in addition, there was an extremely low power response during acceleration. the failures occurred without warning. the vehicle resumed normal operation and was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on five separate occasions for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. the failure mileage was 23,723 and current mileage was 39,000. updated 06/09/09. *lj the consumer stated while driving, the vehicle would shut off for no apparent reason. all of the gauges on the dashboard would just drop. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer on several occassions, but to no avail. no error codes displayed on the computer. there was no check engine light. updated 06/11/09.*jb
You can be driving down the road, and every thing n the vehicle will shut off like you turned the key off, and be traveling at speed and speedometer go to 0 all gauges interior lights dash cluster i mean off, and come back up like you just got in and turned the key but speed comes tach comes back up all your dash lights prestart light up, oil tire pressure all your computer test safety warning lights and door ding, it might do it 5 or 6 times sometimes stay off longer come back for a while and its done it 20 30 times and the motor still running and i believe lights still working , 1 time i was leaving work and used the manual shift mode and she stumbled and just laid down went quarter mile it lit back up, that concerned me as well as the shut downs of all instrumentation, up n down and i don't get quite as concerned as the first 35 times, but wife driving it to work and it done it she wasn't feeling near as fuzzy as i had became and her boss had one same year same color gomango he told her his didit to, just wondering if some solution had come about out of quantity, cause i know how all of them are about fessing up and doing a recall to fix their defects in engineering problems despite the price we pay for a new one? and they still owe me door guards that changed colors a year after i bought it, looked bad, but just had got floor carpet that fit and couldn't see metal under dog house so i let um slide and this also they dismissed? oh and hell yea im mad about my 2004 dodge dully dash breaking all to crap and the dam clear coat coming off looks like i over paid for that truck? *tr
While waiting at a red light yesterday afternoon, the car simply died while in drive for no apparent reason. once i got it re-started, the transmission violently shifted into drive from park. unable to duplicate since then. *ak
I own a 2006 charger 3.5l. i am the second owner. my experience with this car's system issues began around 31k miles while still under warranty and has continued until even recently. the consensus among repair facilities is that it could likely be the computer unit with the secondary concern being the poor wiring harnesses that dodge is known for. the issues are as follows: - all dash lights come on without warning and flash continuously for 10-15 seconds or so and then go out again- various speeds - all instrument needles begin to sweep back and forth like windshield wipers - sometimes the car will act like its stalling but sputters along nevertheless until i turn it off. when i turn it right back on it doesn't do it- this happens sometimes when i pull into the garage and it sits in idle. - sometimes all dash lights just go out without warning- various speeds - recently (4-20-11) all dash lights came on, key chime kept chiming and engine began to falter and would not allow acceleration...at all. i have taken the charger and my concerns to the local dodge dealer several times over the first 3 years (out of business now, in the chrysler reorganization) and was told each time: "there is nothing wrong; we can't duplicate what you are telling us. and i wasn't to worry about it. i have strongly voiced my concern about this issue telling dodge that a computer failure out of warranty is very costly, but they referred me to chrysler corporate, who essentially in so many words just blew me off. this kind of disrespect for a customer with, at that time, an enforceable warranty is disgraceful, and i hope you will hold them accountable for what appears to be a rather common occurrence among charger owners. i found this website by accident otherwise i would be part of the greater masses of charger owners that have not been accounted for in what should become a recall (and financial restitution if i have to get it fixed on my own before the recall) action by the government. *tr
The 20'06 dodge charger had less than 32,000 miles on it, and while driving one day i stepped on the accelerator to merge onto interstate 5 during rush hour traffic and the car stalled. momentarily, the check engine light came on, i stepped on the gas and it did it again and then it resumed power. i took vehicle to the dealer, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, but on the paper work it stated that the cause was a software issue , 108 inspect and flash pcm to latest software version. i took it home, and it has done it 5 more times , 3 times in one afternoon. i have taken it to the dealer twice for the same stalling problem, and they told me that they have done all the they could. we have refraimed from driving the 1994 vehicle because we no longer felt safe driving it. *ak
Vehicle stalls without warning and has not been able to be repaired or " duplicated" what will it take to fix this problem? a serious traffic accident? i don't think so. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that all of the components related to the instrument panel, such as the air conditioner, steering column controls, and phone system worked intermittently. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure; however, they replaced the steering column switch, clock spring, wiring harness, head unit, amplifier, and radio. the contact stated that the failure worsened after the replacements. the manufacturer stated that they would replace the vehicle in july of 2007. as of november 13, 2007, the manufacturer had not replaced the vehicle. the failure mileage was 2,000 and current mileage was 7,700.
Purchased july 14, 2006. it ran great with no problems until july 26. i went to take a left out of my company's parking lot and the car sputtered and would accelerate fast. i had to pull off on the left side of the road to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. i put it in neutral and gave it some gas. i attempted to go again when the traffic was clear and it sputtered more until i gave it a lot of gas and then it drove fine. i though it was an isolated incident so i drove it home. that night my wife, son and i took the car to the mall. upon leaving the mall it did it again and the engine light was on. the dealership was still open and close by so i drove it directly there. they gave me a loaner to drive while they attempted to fix it. on august 9, they gave the vehicle back to me. that night it did it again, except the vehicle actually died on me in the middle of traffic. the next day it was back to the dealer where is sat for 37 days while they tried to figure out what was wrong. they replaced all the oxygen sensors, the power control module, the wiring harnesses and i am sure there were some other things. they test drove it for 9 key cycles and 250 miles and were 98% confident they fixed it so i got the car back on september 15. the next day the same problem returned and i was 50 miles from home and this time the idling of the car was so rough that the car was visibly shaking. i had a friend follow me home and since it was a saturday night, the dealership was not open and would not be until monday. monday morning i started the car up and let it idle 5 minutes before leaving. when i got in, it was idling rough again and the engine light was flashing. i shut it down, called a tow truck and it is back at the dealership where it will stay because i am not taking it back. i have requested vehicle replacement from chrysler and the ...
Car stalls. usually when coming to a stop but has stopped while driving on ta two lane highway in 120 degree weather. almost got rear ended. *nm
The car stops without warning while driving. no power to the gas pedal while the dashboard lights up with all warning lights. this has happened 3 times, once while driving on the highway. after 2nd time in shop within 2 weeks of buying car, the power control module was replaced. daimler chrysler assured me it would never happen again. it did and i am filing under the lemon law for a new car. the car was in the shop for 17 days out of the first 30 i owned it. it is going in again. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that there were several failures that progressed within months of owning the vehicle. the vehicle stalled several times and the instrument panel warning indicators and gauges flickered. when there was a loss of power, the doors would automatically lock and were unable to open. in addition ,the brakes failed to function properly when applied. an unknown dealer replaced the brakes and the pinion pins twice due to the wheels on the driver's side being affected due to the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and the contact was waiting to determine if there was an option to trade in or buy back the vehicle. the failure mileage was not available.
I have taken my car to the dealership 5 times to have issues fixed. each time i got the car back, it was worse. i had 13 issues originally with the car. i ended up suing, and got a very small settlement- dodge refused to cooperate. i still have each and every problem, and do not know what else to do. my car dies while in reverse, the brakes malfunction constantly, the window panel remains broken due to their inept work, the radio cuts off, the dash lights die @ night, etc. i would truly appreciate it if someone could actually help me. i do not know what else to do. i love my car dearly, but something needs to be done. the date i put as date of incident is when this all started. *tr
I am about to file a lemon law complaint because dodge has been "unable to duplicate" the most serious problems that have plagued my vehicle, a 2006 dodge charger r/t, since day four of my ownership. i have owned this car for 68 days and of those, i have only been able to drive the functioning car for 19 days. they have fixed a number of minor issues and notified me that they would be unable to fix or do not know how to fix at this time, some minor issues including the air conditioning compressor problems (which they say they have also been "unable to duplicate". the serious issues that are occurring when it idles, when it accelerates and with what seems to be the suspension and possibly both the engine and transmission. of those 68 days, they have come to pick up my car on three different occasions to try and fix it, the last time (which continues currently) they have had my car for four weeks. i happen to know (upon researching after the prolonged period they have had the car) that tsb's or technical service bulletins have been issued for every problem that is occurring with my car. additionally, i have taken my car to two different mechanics (one dodge dealership and one independent mechanic) that have witnessed these malfunctions. i would like to know what my options are legally for getting some kind of resolution. *jb
I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t. on 6/3/11, i was traveling at approximately 45mph when the engine died and i lost all power. the car coasted for about a quarter mile before i was able to cost it off of the road. this was a two lane road with a very small shoulder. after researching this issue online, it appears that this is a common problem with many dodges (engine stalling and vehicle loss of power) while driving. this is a safety issue that dodge should correct. *tr
