Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

My dad and i noticed that after my car had been driven for awhile that the fan began running really hard then i noticed about a month ago that my check engine light came on. i had a mechanic check it and he told me that it was code p0599 which is the thermostat control circuit. he sd that he believed there had been a recall at one time but for me to contact the dealer. i called rod hatfield here in lexington, ky and was told that there has been several cars of my year and model with these issues but there was not a recall issued for this and i would have to pay to get it fixed.

Car suddenly shifted into 4th gear while going 70 mph. squalled left front tire, and violently snatched steering wheel to the left. after shutting car off, the problem was gone. shortly after, stabilitrack, and steering alarm appeared on message display. that cleared once shut-off. three weeks later it occurred again. this time, on a trip, it did the exact same problems four times in a row. this is a very dangerous problem. if i had not had a firm grip on the wheel, i would have been hurt. i pity the fool who tailgates me! i took the car to the local dealer, and had the california flash "recall" done. sense that the transmission has not shifted down while at high speeds, but now, the stabilitrack, and abs lights are staying on.

Vehicle has 29,980 approximate miles. vehicle had a leaking torque converter seal. while dealership was removing transmission, a stray bolt fell from the interior of the motor. bolt does not belong to car. it has damaged the bell housing. no other damage has been reported at this moment.

When car is shifted into park, after shutting the car off the dic states "shift car into park". i push up on the gear shifter then the dic screen will go off and car seem to be into park.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving at various speeds, an abnormal fuel odor was present inside the vehicle. the failure was persistent. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission lines failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. updated 04/07/16*lj *cn

After my purchase of a brand new chevy cruze ls i did notice that it was not shifting good.the car was not shifting down or up and when shifting down very hesitant, almost like there were no brakes. after bringing it to the dealer several times with them telling me there was nothing wrong with it and several adjustments to the transmission control module, transmission overhaul and parts replacements, i was involved in an accident on the highway. the car still does not work right and i believe this accident is related to this car's drive tran and leads me to think that the product safety should be related to the nhtsa,

When the car first started messing up it was minor things i noticed: the in dash lighter not working, trunk latch doesn't work except by key, turn signals would glitch, can't use usb & audio cord at same time without it cutting off both completely. then a couple weeks later i noticed my car had an unusual delay in increasing speed it was as if i had to push it to the floor just to get to 30 mph. now the most recent event occurred on 9/17/15 which is what's prompting me to file this complaint (keep in mind i've only owned the vehicle for 8 months, purchased at 54k miles currently has 70.9k) i drove to my house approx 30 min hwy from where i was i got into my car the next morning it didn't start at all. my bf checked the battery voltage & it was too dead to test, with a jumper box my car took approx10 min to even turn over, during the time of me inside the car attempting to start it my steering column locked up, lights in dash, radio system, headlights everything flashing on and off, key was stuck inside ignition, a foul smell & clicking noise is coming from engine, & couldn't lock doors once i turned car off immediately. this all occurred i'd say within a matter of 30 seconds after the car to turned over. was so freaked out i didn't try to start again for 2-3 min and once i did it started right up. within 72 hrs i have now seen the stabilitrac service alert, theft alert system needs serviced, along w/ air bags, & battery light flickers on & off. the clicking under my hood has continued, the rotten egg smell from engine comes & goes, dash lights go dim then go back to regular. drove to o'reillys, they were able to tell me i now have a bad alternator as well. recall 14801 was issued for reprogram engine control module, getting serviced this week at dealership but could this possibly cause all this?? especially considering i don't want to be responsible for repairs. help

My car started jerking violently on saturday april 25 2015. a few hours later the car stalled then made a loud noise and returned to normal driving. its been happening 5 days now. i took it to the dealer and they told me it was my drive wise insurance tracker that was making the car jerk so it was removed.the problem is still happening. it jerks when i stop and go but its fine when i'm at a steady speed. *tr

I received my chevy cruze in november of 2014 used with aprox. 59k miles. april 7th driving down a highway at 55-60mph it suddenly started slowing down and would not accelerate. it would jerk and the engine would rev like if you were to be idle and in park and press the gas that's the sound it made. i did not notice the check engine come on or any other lights as i was trying to control my car. the speedometer and rpm indicator started acting erratically while doing so. the gauge would go up and down and the car was slowing down. the steering also became very soft. if i were to take my pinky finger and turn the wheel it would have moved that's how soft it was. all this happened multiple times during a 30 minute time period. after i slowed down and tried going over 30mph it would start to act up again. while this was happened i only had 66k miles. i got it towed to the dealer instead of taking my chances driving it there. it was sitting there a week before they even touched it and they claim they cant find anything wrong with it. i think chevy dealers claim they cant find anything when your car is still under warranty so they don't have to fix it. *tr

Since march 30, 2015, i have been experiencing issues with and have been trying to collect video evidence while in failure mode, of what i believe to be failures of the body computer(s) in this vehicle. the dashboard displays have been going on and off under a wide variety of driving situations, and while sitting at idle. they fault when the vehicle is simply driving down the highway. during these faults, the center information display for the hvac and entertainment will frequently turn off. this kills the radio. it at times kills the hvac systems and the turn signals (at least the noise for the turn signal indicators). at times, the center display above the steering column will go black and then display a message about the stabilitrak having failed and requiring it to be checked. then it returns to normal mode. this is less frequent an occurrence. while driving on the highway under cruise control, the vehicle experienced one incident of unintended acceleration while the displays were in fault modes. this occurred on april 1, 2015 i believe. the driver's feet were on the floorboards. not touching any pedals at all. the incident was stopped by the driver firmly pressing down on the brake pedal. when sufficient video evidence is accumulated on these failures the vehicle will be taken into the dealership. lacking actual demonstrative evidence of the failures, the dealership will not be able to know what to repair or replace. the car has a history of dash display issues. the owner, a retired librarian/researcher from general motors advanced engineering staff and the r&d center, has worked on unintended acceleration legal cases for the company, and has supported litigation defense work on such issues while at the company. he is still gathering evidence but feels the need to document this incident as soon as possible for nhtsa should an accident occur to him due to this. *tr

Driver side windshield wiper becomes detached from wiper transmission when driving at highway speeds and simultaneously using windshield wipers. this poses significant danger because visibility is drastically reduced in rainy or snowy conditions. car lurches forward when at a stop and transmission is in drive. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that while approximately driving 60 mph, the traction stability, reduce engine power and check engine warning lights illuminated. in addition, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,653.

I turned my car on one morning after i just had it in the shop to get the recalls fixed on it. im seeing service stabilitrak and service traction and abs lights. i can no longer turn on or off my traction control. my brakes are now grabbing really bad and im getting a really weird feel when i have my foot in the gas and turn my wheel. my car is not the same after the recalls were done. *tr

Driving on the highway at roughly 70mph when car shuddered, and lost power immediately. after this the car would not accelerate. fortunately there were no vehicles directly behind me, so i was able to pull over to the side of the road. the check engine light was illuminated and the dashboard read three errors: "engine power is reduced", "service traction control", "service stabilitrack". after turning the car off, waiting, and turning back on the vehicle worked correctly, but the issue occurred after another 15 minutes on the road. i drove in the right lane the rest of the way home to ensure our safety, and this occurred 4 times in total. this was an extremely dangerous situation during a busy holiday travel weekend. had this occurred at the wrong time, this could have been catastrophic. quick research online has shown this to be an issue with the make and model, as many other people have reported this exact defect. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that while stationary, the engine warning light illuminated. the contact stated that smoke came from under the hood of the vehicle directly after the vehicle was purchased. chevrolet of broadsheadville, pennsylvania was made aware of the series of failures and diagnosed that the engine coolant thermostat was faulty. in addition, the transmission was replaced, under a manufacturers recall, but the failure recurred thereafter. the dealer stated that the contact would have to get used to the new transmission and the way the vehicle operated after the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty in regards to the mileage. the failure mileage was 78,000. the vin was not available. updated 09/06/17*lj *js

2012 chevy cruze with less than 25,000 miles on it. while driving, the traction control light will come on the dic and then service stabilitrack and the car would die down for a brief second and the radio will cut off. i made an appointment to a dealer and they said to drive with the traction control off until it gets in. now it is doing the same thing with the traction control off. it is also doing this in reverse! this car is still under warranty with gm, but i'm afraid that i will have the same luck as others on here who are experiencing the same problems and nothing will get fixed. i'm also afraid that this will occur at an even greater rate and longer while driving causing an accident! something needs to be done to fix this problem in this model! *tr

I hit the gas pedal hard to merge into traffic, the car did not go. i heard squealing tires, turns out it was my tires squealing. the turbo kicked in and catapulted my car into traffic. i was able to steer to the right, to avoid hitting anyone or getting hit, but i was forced up against construction barrels to avoid a collision. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that when shifting into drive, the vehicle would reverse and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission pressure thermostat failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 69,100.

Engine fan keeps running and dealership insists it's norman but it wasn't happening from 2012 through 2014. happens when i start the car and engine is cold, when sitting at light a light, with air on or off. i bought it brand new. i have the feeling they're waiting for something major to happen. i'm very concerned. i've had it checked 3 times. they say it's normal, but if it were doing this when i bought it, i definitely wouldn't have. please help, i don't want to die!

While driving the car it continuously jerk forward, and it seems to be getting worse, the car is in motion , on a regular street. it's unknown why the car is doing this.

Purchased the car on 28 april 2014 from knox ford in radcliff, ky. noticed a faint burning smell. was advised that i rode the clutch during the test drive. had the car checked out and was advised it was good to go. the car was delivered on 30 april. it was finally driven on 5 monday 2014 down to fort campbell, ky. at that point the car reeked of burning ceramic and the power steering locked up completely. after resting it for a few minutes and restating the car, it reengaged. contacted dealer and was advised to go to local chevy dealer for assessment. chevy dealer advised that the power steering module was reading that it was out of center and disengaging. was also advised that a part of the clutch assembly had been replaced a few thousand miles previously and seemed to be rubbing incorrectly. knox ford advised me to return the car to their dealership (120 miles away) and they would work on the car. upon leaving the other dealership, the power steering locked up again and didn't reengage. drove the car 120 miles without power steering and returned to knox ford to have them take to to a chevy dealership. the power steering module was replaced and the car aligned. the chevy dealer couldn't find an issue with the clutch. reclaimed the car on 16 may 2014 and drove the car back down to fort campbell today 19 may 2014. once again, the burning smell has returned. not as strong but it's still there. *js

This incident has happened on numerous occasions and was taken to the dealership three different times to address the issue... the problem is still occurring and nothing is resolved. radio would turn on/off and dashboard lights kept flickering, service traction control and service stability trak would pop up along wit fh the engine light and traction control light and the vehicle turned on/off. engine would sound really loud at times, even after the car was turned off (maybe it was the engine fan but i'm not sure)... this car is nothing but problems after problems and they are not getting resolved because they keep recurring. *tr

The radio and dash board lights (service stabilitrak) have been flashing on and off then this evening while driving on a straight road, the "service power steering" light flashed on and my steering wheel locked up. that continued for approx. 2 minutes then started working correctly. when i got home and pulled into my parking spot and turned my car off everything turned off, including my interior lights and i couldn't remove my key from the ignition. i let it sit for approx. 5 minutes then tried to start the car and it did turn on so i turned it off again and i was able to remove the key. the dealership i bought the car from two months ago (used, with 38k miles) told me that this is not covered under the power train warranty but would have been covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty (expired before i bought the car). now, i'm responsible for paying for a serious defect that could potentially result in a serious or fatal incident. chevrolet/general motors -- please fix this without causing consumers any further monetary, physical, or emotional issues. *tr!....updated 07/31/14 *bf

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while preparing to park, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle accelerated. the failure occurred while driving 9 mph in a parking lot. the clutch and brake pedals were applied simultaneously to stop the vehicle. the failure occurred regularly when the vehicle was in second or third gear. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 45,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the clutch failed and the transmission slipped gears. the contact also mentioned that steering the vehicle became difficult and a burning odor was smelled. in addition, the failure occurred three times and there was a transmission fluid leak. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the fly wheel, clutch, and bearings would need to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

While pulling into parking space crawling into position the brakes failed and the car vibrated and lunged forward crashing into a brick wall. the brake pedal went all the way to the floor the car then began to vibrate then accelerate forward hitting brick wall. i believe that the turbo charge engaged because of the vacuum boost failed causing the turbo to engage. filed complaint with gm no luck said it was driver error. needless to say we are repairing the car then trading in. i have contacted local media can't seem to get any help. we have been loyal chevy owners for over 20years never again. i think the public needs to be warned before someone gets killed. if someone was walking across the front of the car they would have died. *tr

I when to the dealer to get a new oil drain plug i give then my vin and they tell me my oil brain plug part numbers was 55568037 when i install the oil plug back i damage my oil pan because the is the wrong part my car has the oil plug part number 96041864 but when they check on the computer it shows a different part number now i my to replace my oil pan. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving 35 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle jerked before accelerating. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the gears, bearings, and housing in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken back to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there were metal filings in the transmission and that the internal components in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 27,390.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that the vehicle rolled away in reverse as the contact was exiting the vehicle and closing the door. the vehicle then crashed into a truck. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,000.

I was at a stop light when the light turned green i pushed the accelerator an the car was jerky. i the car finally moved and there was a loud bang from the rear and it felt like i had been hit in the rear. the car jerked, sputtered and then stopped moving. this was a few days after taking the car to the dealer and telling them the car was not shifting properly. they fixed my broken tranny but it still does not drive safely. it doesn't accelerate, the gears get stuck merging on the highway is a nightmare. almost two years to the day my car is once again at the dealer for the exact problem. i was driving up a small incline, pushed the gas the car struggled to go. there was a loud harsh jerk the car finally moved. it sputtered and the check engine light came on. *tr

Transmission?? i noticed when driving from anywhere from 30-60 mph, that the car does not seem to shift right. it violently shakes before reaching the shift point and the tachometer will surge both on cruise and regular acceleration. i've taken it to the dealer 3x and they test drove it, confirming the problem. however, no lights came on and the diagnostic tests they did were inconclusive. they told me unless there is a recall for that reason or a light comes on for the diagnostic code, they can't do anything else, because they don't know what to look for. it is progressively getting worse and i am almost scared to drive it to my job (an hour away) for fear of the unknown... will it catch on fire, will the transmission fall out, etc??? i'd really like to know what the problem is, so it can be fixed. the dealership told me that there were many complaints about this same thing with cruzes around that year, especially with turbo, and that i should contact you to see if there is anything you can do as an investigation on the matter. i did get a recall notice on the vacuum pump, but not the air bag coil, as of yet. i'm still waiting to see if that applies to me. thank you for your help in this matter. *tr

I was out driving on our way home about 1 mile from my house,. i saw steam emit from the front of the hood. pulled into my driveway and walked around to the front of vehicle. there was a burning kind of smell, opened hood and saw engine oil all over the bottom of engine, parts and underneath car all over the underbody. also large puddle on the ground. the car has 42,000 miles on it and had it towed to the chevy dealer immediately and there it sits waiting to figure out what caused this to happen. and the estimate and our if it is under the powertrain warranty. this was really scary once i opened the hood and the burning smell was bad. i have had several recalls on my car that i guess we're corrected. i'm not a mechanic. i have kept up on all maintenance and oil changes with the car dealer. in fact i just had an oil change 2 months ago by the dealer. you know they tell you to use synthetic oil it will last the longest in between oil changes. i'm stunned because i do not know how this would happen so suddenly. is this related to any recalls? *tr

This car would suddenly and without warning surge/lunge forward creating a safety hazard to all including other drivers. i have had it back to the dealer twice and they have confirmed and duplicated my observations and concerns however,at first they thought it was electronic and then decided to rebuild the transmission after they found metal fragments within this sealed component. this is a brand new car so why would they not replace the car, give back my money or at the very least replace the transmission rather than repair it? the car has now been in the shop for 18 of the 40 something days that i have owned it and its still there today. i am not convinced that the transmission is the real problem and i'm skeptical that gm truly knows what the issue is. i would be interested to know if other cruze owners are also experiencing this safety issue? i am also disappointed that gm doesn't simply return the few dollars i have invested and let this car fly off into the sunset. i have been a consistant gm buyer for many many years and this particular situation has left a bad taste in my mouth to say the least. *tr

Vehicle vents antifreeze vapors and fuel vapors into driver/passenger compartment. odors can become noxious. *tr

This car has had several problems. they have had to replace a vacuum pump, the engine shield recall, the brakes stick, there is a horrible smell of hot transmission fluid constantly, the transmission coolant lines have been replaced, a pump above the fuel tank has been replaced, the car surges and causes the rpm gauge to bounce, the axles have had leaks fixed, the exterior trunk button doesn't work, driving down the road it sounds like a plastic bottle is stuck inside the passenger side front door, some times after putting the key in the ignition it won't turn, the suspension system pops and cracks, the axle squeals, shifts at inappropriate times or not when it is supposed to, the back up sensor will beep when nothing is there some times, doesn't feel like there is any pressure behind the brakes some times, and smoke row out from under the hood when stopped at stop lights some times. i think that is every thing but it has been a constant nightmare. i am guessing on miles and dates, but it was not very long after i got it brand new that it started having problems. when i started having shifting and leaks in the transmission, the dealership couldn't figure out what was wrong, i had to point out the leak myself and then he said he would get the parts ordered and they would be in within 3 days. 2 weeks later i called gm, then it was within a week i was contacted by the dealer that they had the parts, after gm said someone would contact me within 48 hours. this has been such a hassle i am now vehicle shopping and will not purchase another chevrolet. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while stopped, the vehicle vibrated and jerked forward without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 5,000.

I purchased a 2012 chevy cruze 2lt w/rs package on 9/19/12. i didn't notice right away but after i drove for a few days i notice the engine would have this loud vibration when i barely accelerate, like staying at a steady speed. if i accelerate from a stopped position it doesn't do it or i just don't hear it because i hear the turbo. after driving it a few weeks the vibration sound has gotten worse, so i took it to the dealership to be checked. they test drove it and told me this is the way the echotech w/turbo motors sound and nothing was wrong with it. i wasn't satisfied so i asked i could test drive another car just like mine on their lot. they graciously let me and it sounded the same. my sons girlfriend has the exact same car and hers sounds nothing like mine. she bought hers at a different dealership which means it was probably came from a different manufacturer. something isn't right and this should be fixed. this does not sound like a new car. it's very embarrassing. my 1995 chevy cavalier is not as loud as my new car. another thing is when i slow down to pull in my driveway (on a hill) i just let off the gas and the car will jerk really hard. this doesn't happen all the time but this will be an issue i'm sure when the warranty is up. i'm very disappointed with my first new car purchase. i waited 42 years for this. *tr

My new 2012 chevy cruze eco was purchased on 05/15/2012 and has approximately 8000 miles and the manual transmission clutch is already inoperative. the billy navarre chevrolet dealership will not repair the vehicle under warranty stating that a gm field service rep has inspected the car and has determined that the clutch failure was due to operator abuse/misuse. in addition, the dealership states that the clutch is not covered under the factory warranty and subject to fair wear and tear although i purchased the gm extended warranty as well. is it normal for a clutch to fail at 8000 miles? certainly not! the car has never been abused and has been operated within normal operating limits but resulting in the clutch disc being fused to the flywheel - as reported by the service department to me. the speculation is that the operator, my daughter, 'rides' the clutch and has caused the clutch to wear out prematurely and fusing the clutch to the flywheel. my daughter has never 'ridden' the clutch nor abused the vehicle as speculated but has driven the car in a safe and proper manner using normal operating procedures iaw the operator's manual. a burning smell was reported by my daughter to me and within a few days (10/06/12) the car would not go into gear and after several attempts would not shift at all. my daughter is the only operator of the vehicle. the car was towed to the dealership and within a week the service department reported to me that the transmission needed to be replaced but would not be covered under warranty. my only request has been and remains that the car be repaired or replaced under warranty at no cost to me as the problem is a defect induced problem and not due to operator abuse or misuse. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated and stalled while driving various speeds. while driving on an incline, the contact had to keep the clutch pedal depressed in first and second gear to prevent the vehicle from stalling. the accelerator pedal also had to remain depressed to maintain acceleration. the vehicle also stalled when the gear was in reverse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer more than once, but the failure could not be duplicated. in addition, the air conditioning and heat were inoperable. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 100.

To begin with,i have had several problems with my 2012 chevy cruze and have been given the runaround. my first concern is that i bought my 2012 chevy cruze on 09/18/2012 and was notified days later of a major safety recall about the possibility of engine fires from fluid spills. i find out that this recall was announced on 06/22/12.(nhtsa campaign #:12v288000) why was i sold a vehicle that was under recall for 3 months? and was never even mentioned prior or post sale. onstar had to notify me and then i had to get it fixed. my second concern is that there is an coolant smell in the cab of the vehicle and although not always noticeable, it is more noticeable in colder weather. took vehicle to dealer and they played stupid and said they don't smell anything and that the smell could be a "dirty cabin air-filter"? nobody wants to smell coolant when driving!! my third concern is that when taking off from a dead stop or accelerating after letting off the gas for a second the vehicle almost always shifts roughly. took to dealer and was told that its probably just the "turbo kicking in". my fourth concern is about the recall (nhtsa campaign #:12v288000) my vehicle(where the engine shield was) is already rusting and is a very big concern with the future of my vehicle(even after warranty period) rust never goes well with a vehicle! i'm concerned that parts will wear prematurely because of this! not to mention that i am getting less mpg since the shields been removed. now today i get another major safety recall about my brakes.(nhtsa campaign #:13v360000) which would explain why my brakes sometimes require me to press them really hard all the way down to stop it. it currently sits at around 26,000 miles, i am thus far very dissatisfied with the vehicle. i don't know my options but know that if things don't start looking better, i will never buy chevy or recommend chevy again. *tr

Car responds erratically and unpredictably to push on accelerator pedal. on above date in attempting to back up slowly accelerator pedal was pushed with delayed response, then followed by extreme motion backward hitting fence, damaging fender. at other times car fails to accelerate out of way of on-coming traffic causing near collisions with little or no response to pedal movement. this has happened several times with this six month old car. my friend has same model with same problem. as per chevy service manager who was twice contacted on this: a) he took a new cruze home to drive for several days to investigate this complaint from other customers and he had the same problem, b) same problems are being reported to other chevy dealers in hot climate areas of country. chevy service manager says problem is know to general motors, but no fix is available - all tests on several other new cruze models brought in for service with same problem show that all systems and electronics are working normally. he's not sure what general motors will do about it. this is apparently a make/model specific problem that is not being addressed as no pro-active warning info has been received by us from general motors or the chevy dealer. this is dangerous and no one is taking any responsibility. please investigate before someone is seriously injured or killed. the lack of official warning from general motors is morally outrageous!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that when the vehicle reached 35 mph, it would jerk and hesitate to accelerate. the contact also mentioned that the accelerator failed to respond to acceleration attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic stated that the transmission had to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but after 16,000 miles the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 600. the current mileage was 17,100.

I received my chevy cruze ls in august of 2012 after having it for a week i started to notice issues with the transmission. i drove it up north and after being on the freeway going a constant speed of 75 mph, when forced to slow down due to traffic the car could not figure out what i was trying to do and just had a mind of its own. the rpms would shoot up very high and the car would struggle to accelerate (almost as if it were stuck in neutral) and eventually it would jerk forward very hard and then accelerate. this happens every time i get on the freeway now and have to slow down because of traffic or slow down to get off at the exit (and continues well after being off the freeway). i am lucky i haven't been rear ended and severely injured or killed. i've had the car for almost two years now and its only gotten worse, it now does the same thing when driving down the street at 30 mph, it will be going along just fine then all of a sudden the engine revs as if it were shifted into neutral and then catches itself and jerks really hard and is fine again. also when slowing down it seems to downshift too quickly almost coming to a complete stop on its own, which is why i am afraid of being rear ended. i have taken the car in to 5 different dealerships and am told every time that either they don't see the problem and i don't know what i'm talking about or they can see there's a problem but there's nothing they can do about it. i'm very disappointed in the quality of this car, i've also had issues with the radio and my usb cord not connecting to my phone and even when it does connect the songs come through with lots of static. i have tried different cords, different phones and multiple ipods and it keeps happening. i feel totally helpless and am sick of feeling unsafe in my car. my family has always bought gm cars, this is my second chevy and my last!! *tr

Chevrolet's recall fix on the 2011-2012 chevy cruze involve cutting off large portions of the underneath heat shield, this piece is also a debris shield. but now with the heat shield completely gone, there now is no protection from debris entering under the hood and causing more damage, also with this fix gm is compromising the biggest selling point of this car which is the gas mileage, this shield is also used to reduce drag underneath the car and in turn increasing gas mileage, but now drag will increase underhood which will decrease fuel mileage. in very wet climates this shield helped prevent water from spraying up under the hood as well, and by removing this shield our cars are now more prone rust, corrosion and abnormal wear to vital parts. gm has done a horrible job at fixing this problem, no logic or obvious care were taken into consideration when addressing this issue. if this kind of similar problem happened on a cadillac or a corvette would have they fixed the problem the same way?? probably not, so what makes my chevy cruze any less important? *tr

2012 chevrolet cruze lt1 rs package, automatic transmission on june 27 i was in murray, ky driving home from murray state university. i was in heavy traffic. after the light changed i gave the accelerator a light tap to move the car forward. it started slowly but after a few seconds, it seems that the car stalled. the transmission downshifted and when i gave the accelerator a tap, nothing. at this time, i was certain i would be in an accident. again, i gave the accelerator a tap (mind you, i didn't mash the petal to the floor board, i gave it enough of a tap to switch the gear). the car did nothing, and again my concern was that i would be rear ended soon. another tip (again, i did not mash the pedal to the floor), and finally the turbo charger kicked in and the car switched gears. but when the car shifted gears, it was an explosion of force that jerked and lurched the car forward including my self. i was glad to get moving since traffic was heavy. since this incident, it has happened 5 times that the car has been sluggish to respond, and it have continued to shift gears with random jerks and often explosive force that jerks both car and passenger. i have had this to 2 dealerships, and they say they cannot reproduce it, and they both tell me that this is a normal thing, and that this transmission will make erratic gear changes. i am concerned for my safety with i drive this car, and hope i am not stranded in traffic when the transmission fails to shift properly. *tr

From the beginning i had a recall for the oil pan a week after purchasing the car. there has been numerous times the heating had to be worked on and still not fixed. it stills smells like antifreeze when its on. the right brake cylinder went bad a few months after the purchased. the windshield sometimes whistles when you go down the highway at 65 mph. now after my last oil change the other day, they said i need to take it back because there is a transmission leak. not to mention where i got the car from, they act like they don't care to help fix the problem. very frustrated! *tr
