When backing my daughters car out of our driveway, the brake pedal became hard and the car would not stop. there was a recall for her car for this exact same issue, but when i put the vin number in for her car, it was not included in the recall. i am afraid to let her drive the car due to this issue.
Brakes will occasionally not respond to normal pressure when stepping on the brake pedal. i notice that the issue happens sporadically, whether i am on the freeway or surface streets. there seems to be pressure built up and i have to step a lot harder on the brake pedal. i know from looking up forums that there was a recall on the 2012 automatic cruze, but mine is a 6 speed manual. i know the recall was for a microswitch on the brake vacuum booster. the nhtsa recall number is 13v360000. i am worried for my families safety seeing that i have 2 teenage sons, my wife and i who are able to drive the car.
Started to have noise. ask mechanic to check what is it. turned out it is vacuum pump for the brake system. looked up information and this issue is under the campaign #13v360000. contacted local gm dealership asking can they fix it at no cost. they refused because this recall does not listed under my vin. why i should pay for recall issue and other owner do not.

I was backing out of my driveway and when i went to press the brake pedal to stop the car and put it into drive the car did not stop moving. i had my foot all the way down on the brake and the car still did not come to a complete stop. eventually it came to a stop but had there been another car in the street i would have hit them and been at fault for an incident that wasn't completely my fault. this is not the first time this has happened but i finally decided to look into this issue and found out about a recall on the cruze due to brake assistance. i entered my vin number and it said it was not affected but i am positive that my car is having the same issue that over 300,00 other cruze sedans are having.
When i use the brakes and the air is on the car will not stop like it should. it keeps moving. i looked this up and it shows there is a recall on the brake booster vacuum pipe but because my vin number doesn't match what you have predetermined that will have faulty parts chevy says my car doesn't have a recall. how exactly do you predict what cars will have faulty parts?
The vehicle was in motion going 55 mph on the turnpike and traffic ahead was slowing down. the brake was applied and it failed to work. my son, the driver, pushed the brake again and it still was not braking. out of desperation, he pushed the brake as far as it could go and the vehicle swerved toward the median. he turned the steering wheel and then it swerved toward the shoulder. this action made the vehicle slow down, but the brakes still did not work.there were no other vehicles involved, but he was very close to crashing into another vehicle. i checked to see if there were any recalls or safety issues for the 2012 chevrolet cruze. there was one recall that described what he experienced, but the recall was not for the engine type of my cruze. it was bulletin #12213-brake vacuum micro switch. he has an appointment with the chevrolet dealer to check out the vehicle. by the way, the vehicle passed state inspection less than a month ago. frankly, i am afraid to have him drive the vehicle.
My brakes keep going "hard" and not functioning properly. about a year ago i had my master cylander, brake booster, microswitch in the brake vacuum line, maf sensor and air intake hose replaced because the mechanic said those were the issues, i went 2 weeks without my vehicle, including breaking down for multiple days out of state. now here i am with the same issues. before i had them replaced i was told that the microswitch in the brake system was already recalled and replaced. but since then it has failed again. i was told by chevy that they only do the recall once, but if they are replacing it with a faulty part shouldn't that be recalled again? i have two toddlers in my vehicle regularly and losing the power brakes could end very bad. the power brakes fail almost every day, usually the first time i hit the brakes after starting to vehicle. witch make me think that its going to completely fail again soon.
When the temperature drops below 20 degrees f my abs and traction control lights come on constantly and it says service abs system and service stabilitrak system. whenever this occurs my left rear e-brake locks up as though it is frozen. this has caused me to slide off the road multiple times.
As i'm driving in the city of atlanta georgia my car chevy cruze 2012 has many issues as the car being in motion as i press the brakes to come to a stop the brakes pressure gets and do not stop i found out did i have to tap on the gas again and then press the brake to get it to comply sort of scary almost causing a wreck every time
Takata recall on or about july 2016 i noticed when i put my car in reverse i tried to brake and my car would stay in movement and require me to slam down on the brake pedal. ever since the first time i noticed it, it has gotten worse. the brake pedal gets hard and my car keeps rolling when i'm in reverse and driving forward. it happens frequently but sometimes will go away. i thought it could be a result of my engine not reaching the right temperature but it has happened midway through my commutes. i've been told that there are no recalls for my car but i feel this is a huge safety problem, i tried to parallel park the other day and couldn't do it because my car kept rolling around. this has happened on city streets, i have not noticed it when im on the highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving 10 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. the contact had to exert extra force to depress the brake pedal until the vehicle came to a complete stop. the vehicle was taken to bedard bros. auto sales (391 s state rd, cheshire, ma 01225, (413) 743-0014) and was informed that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 13v360000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the diagnosis was unknown. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
While parallel parking on a city street, brakes became unresponsive and i almost hit another car. i have had to have the brake booster pump replaced twice in two years and now it needs to be replaced again but dealer won't acknowledge that there is a known issue and because it is not involved in a recall, why i do not know, i must pay out of pocket. 3 booster pumps in 2 years but no recall???
When the car is in reverse, the brakes barely work. you must fully depress the brake pedal, and even then, it will not stop immediately. this problem occurs when the vehicle is in motion and in reverse. in drive, the brakes work as they should. i believe this vehicle should be included in the current recall on 2012 chevy cruzes in which there is an issue with the electric vacuum pump, causing the failure of the brakes. that recall number is 13v360000. this could cause serious injury or death.
Driving chevrolet cruz(2012) and brakes failed causing to rear end another vehicle. certified auto mechanic examined and said failure of master cylinder. car was towed due to lack of brakes. other driver filed a claim against my insurance and stated injury suffered. thus occurred on interstate 460 w. roanoke county va.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving 4 mph, the cruise control seized and the vehicle continued to accelerate. the contact stated that the failure also occurred while the vehicle was in reverse. in order to stop the vehicle, extreme pressure had to be applied to the brake pedal. the failure occurred several years ago and was taken to riley chevrolet buick gmc (2033 christy dr., jefferson city, mo 65101). the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired, but the specifics were not provided. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed with a brake micro vacuum switch failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall for the failure. the failure mileage was 34,000.
Belt tensioner bolt came out and is now stuck in a spring in the engine..the light on my radio fades in and out.. rotor on drivers side had deformity to it .still have the rotor and the spring is still stuck in engine i can't afford to get it fixed
I have to push harder on the brake pedal to brake on time or brake at all. to not rear end the vehicle in front of me and cause an accident.
The car has had all recall work done for both issues however the vehicle is spewing oil again and even after the brakes have been replaced the vehicle does not stop when in reverse or moving slowly forward. chevy states that these issues are now my issue and and spends because recall work is only one year on the warranty. when backing out from a parking spot or driveway the vehicle does not stop when the brakes are pressed and oil leaks randomly. in 2015 as they made the reveal repair the vehicle caught fire, however they claimed to have repaired the issue.
This complaint is in regards to general motors particularly the chevrolet division not responding to ongoing brake problem noted in their recall notifications. i received recall #12213 in october 2013 regarding brake vacuum micro switch. vehicle was taken to local dealership in december 2013 for repair. it is 3 years 9 months and the same component has failed again according to my local dealership and claims it is no longer under warranty or recall since it was replaced once already. i showed them a subsequent recall notice # 12213a dated june 2015 with the same part at issue. they claim that the recall i presented was not assigned to my vehicle because of the vin number. no where in the document dated june 2015 does it state that this recall is only for certain vin numbers. in fact it clearly identifies 2011-2012 chevrolet cruze as the problem year vehicle which i own. if recall notices are vin number specific then it should be stated some where on the recall notice that these recalls are vin number specific. as a consumer when we look this information up and it clearly identifies the year make and model of the vehicle i own it should be safe to assume that the recall applies. your assistance and clarification in this mater would be greatly appreciated.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle, the vehicle failed to slow down and the contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster switch had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
The brake pedal in my cruze will not let you push it down. it feels that there is something blocking it which will not allow you to brake when needed. the first time this happened was in 2015 in which we learned of a recall (13v360000) for the microswitch in the power brake vacuum pipe assembly. we took it to a chevrolet dealership & was told the switch was replaced. in 2016 the same thing happened, while accelerating someone pulled out in front of me & when i went to stop there was no brakes because the pedal would not push. no accident occurred as i was able to avoid the other vehicle. took the car back to dealership where no one there was able to get it to happen again so therefore was told nothing was wrong, but i didnt push the brakes hard enough in july 2017, while backing out of a parking spot, went to stop to put the car into drive, there was again no brakes. we took the vehicle back again to the dealership because once again the brakes were not working & the brake pedal had to be stomped on to get it to even move a little bit. was told that the master cylinder had gone out in the car and that the brake booster may also need to be replaced as well. we then had the master cylinder replaced. that did not fix the problem. so then we had the brake booster replaced. we picked up the vehicle only to find out when accelerating but need to stop there is again no brakes. the car is back at the dealership who is now stating that it could possibly be the break booster check value but are not 100% sure that this will fix the problem but did state that if the original recall had been done that we would not be having any of the problems we are having now. i informed them that the recall was done at another chevy dealership. so after almost 2 years $2,500 later we still have a vehicle without breaks we are unable to drive that is in the shop once again.
The rear center brake light stays lite even after taking foot completely off the brake pedal. i have to manually with my foot lift /push up the brake pedal lightly in order to have the brake light turn off. this happens very frequently when driving in heavy stop and go traffic on the highway.
Same issue as nhtsa id number: 11024806 i received recall #12213 in october 2013 regarding brake vacuum micro switch. vehicle was taken to local dealership in december 2013 for repair. on 8/23/17 had to take back to the dealer to have this same part replaced. dealer indicated that since this had already been repaired as part of the replacement, would not be covered. as a result, had to pay $330 out of pocket to replace this part which was a previously known defect that had yet again failed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while reversing at 2 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to slow down. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the micro switch in the power brake vacuum pipe assembly failed and the switch, vacuum pump, and pipe assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v360000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
A loss of braking assistance will require extra pedal force and/or distance to bring the vehicle to a stop, increasing the risk of a crash.
Exhibiting the rock hard brake issue that chevy issued recall 12213 and 12213a for, but my vin is not covered by the recall.
Intermittent reduction or loss of brake assist. the loss of braking assistance requires extra pedal force and/or distance to bring the vehicle to a stop.
2012 chevrolet cruz. consumer writes in regards to brakes malfunctioning when trying to stop vehicle. *ld the consumer stated it was discovered that a brake vacuum micro switch malfunctioned. the vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. *js
Complete loss of braking assist on 6/20/2017. time: approx. 10 am. weather conditions: sunny, 80 deg f. speed: under 5mph. while maneuvering out of a tight parking place (reverse then forward), the car had a sudden complete loss of braking assist. this required a very high amount of force to stop the vehicle. at first, i thought the engine had died. however, it had not. after reversing to complete the maneuver, the brake assist returned to normal.
When putting my 2012 chevy cruze into reverse to back up, the brakes do not seem to work properly - the car does not stop until i press on the brake very hard. this has been happening more often now then before - almost every time in car, making driving/parking backing out of parking lot, very unnerving. this is on level grade - not on a hill. i've also need on-line this was part of a major recall, but when contacted chevrolet hq, they said that this was not an issue for my vin. i'm sure they would change their mind just sitting in my car once. this should be corrected by chevrolet at no cost - and/or be part of the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving various speeds and attempting to stop the vehicle, the contact had to apply extra force to the brake pedal. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to auto zone who found failure codes for the ecm and brakes. the dealer was contacted at 319-393-3300 and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be brought in to be diagnosed. the dealer also stated that even though the vehicle experienced the failures in a recall ,it did not mean her vehicle was included in the recall. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v360000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the vehicle was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fee. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall under the vin, and that a manager would contact her back. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was approximately 80,600.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to engage. the contact stated that significant pressure was applied to the brake pedal; however, the contact still rear-ended another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was not filed. there were no injuries sustained. earnhardt chevrolet in chandler, arizona was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
I lose braking power in hot weather conditions when my vehicle is in reverse. this is the same issue recall 13v360000 was supposed to fix.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving various speeds, the brake pedal stiffened and the vehicle would not stop when prompted. in addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was diagnosed as having a faulty electronic brake assist. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 73,000.
Tires light all the time, overheating all the time spend 100 of dollar on anti-freeze coolant ran in overflow tank spent over $769.00 0n people giving false report on what wrong with vehicle. i tried to file for bankrupty but wasn't successful due low income. stop on city street.
Tl* the contact owned a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power braking. as a result, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a fence. the air bags did not deploy. the failure occurred without warning. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence then to a salvage yard. the vehicle was deemed destroyed. there were no injuries. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign numbers: 13v360000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 14v300000 (air bags); however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 51,568.
Recall bulletin 12213 performed april 2014 for brake vacuum micro switch. recalled part failed again august 2016. vehicle has hard brake pedal upon cold start and sometimes when restarted after driving and warm. vehicle becomes very hard to stop without warning and unsafe to drive. dealer refused to replace part at no cost stating no additional recall exists and no warranty exists. it is unclear if this is the very start of a larger systemic problem with the actual design of these micro switches in this application. gm part number 13460776 has become obsolete and part now comes as sub assembly with additional parts. this leads me to believe original design of micro switch was defective.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the air bag and electronic stability control lights remained illuminated. in addition, the vehicle would not start immediately when prompted. the contact had to wait approximately ten seconds before the vehicle would start. furthermore, when the brake pedal was depressed, the contact had to apply a significant amount of pressure before stopping the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 11,010.
Has a hard brake pedal will not stop sometime the switch was replaced on early recall.
My car is having the same problems and should be covered with the recall. manufacturer: general motors llc summary: general motors (gm) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 chevrolet cruze vehicles equipped with 1.4l dohc gasoline turbo engines and 6t40 front wheel drive automatic transmissions and equipped with an electric vacuum pump to provide supplemental vacuum for brake assist, when needed. in the affected vehicles, the pump may not activate, resulting in an intermittent reduction or loss of brake assist. consequence: a loss of braking assistance will require extra pedal force and/or distance to bring the vehicle to a stop, increasing the risk of a crash. remedy: general motors will notify owners, and dealers will replace a microswitch in the power brake vacuum pipe assembly, free of charge. the recall began on october 7, 2013. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020. gm's recall number is 12213. notes: owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. when the brake pedal was depressed at a red light, the vehicle continued to move forward without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 13v360000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 48,000.
Vacuum assist for power brakes sometimes does not work. you must push as hard as you can on brake pedal to get the car to stop. some chevy cruse were recalled for this problem but mine was not. this is a very dangerous problem that can cause a serious accident in an emergency braking situation.
Car suddenly shifted into 4th gear while going 70 mph. squalled left front tire, and violently snatched steering wheel to the left. after shutting car off, the problem was gone. shortly after, stabilitrack, and steering alarm appeared on message display. that cleared once shut-off. three weeks later it occurred again. this time, on a trip, it did the exact same problems four times in a row. this is a very dangerous problem. if i had not had a firm grip on the wheel, i would have been hurt. i pity the fool who tailgates me! i took the car to the local dealer, and had the california flash "recall" done. sense that the transmission has not shifted down while at high speeds, but now, the stabilitrack, and abs lights are staying on.
Around sunrise on a highway with an adult passenger the car lost all power instantly. the steering was heavy and the brakes had very little power. we was able to drift over to a safe area. the way this car performs with little braking effort it can cause some bad accidents in other enviroments such as mountains. the safety of the chevrolet cruze models needs to be improve.
While driving the power steering shuts off, radio blinks on and off, and the brakes get spongy making it hard to drive and stop. i have had it in the shop and the mechanics were unable to find an problem.
We purchased the car for my daughter in 2012 and made the decision based on all of the safety features and supposedly waranties that were associated with this car, which she loved. we have had numerous recalls over the 4 years, but now the car is failing to brake when she is pressing the pedal and after she pumps it, it finally comes to a stop, but of course this is a safety issue for anyone. took it to our mechanic thinking maybe it was brake fluid, but then he found on this website the recall #12213 that gm had from 2013 describing this very issue. he suggested calling the dealership because it was under the recall and when i did, they are telling me it was already repaired on her car (which i am not sure i believe because we have had so many bad experiences with this dealer & recalls that i don't think it was ever repaired!) they tell me we will have to pay to repair the problem because it is no longer under the recall. i called gm to question why they wouldn't repair a "known" issue with the brakes and she tells me that the recall itself has already been closed down, so it must be something else wrong with the car! i guess they would rather have a crash on their hands then take responsibility because after reading this website, my daughter is not the only one having this issue. what terrible civic responsibility, customer service and blatant disregard for someone's life than to just ignore an obvious problem. i have already asked our mechanic to fix her brakes so that she is not involved in a crash, but this is an obvious issue and they have nothing to say. i feel like some of the others on this site, that i'm not even sure we got a notice on this issue or we fell through the cracks. last usa car for us-they really don't care about customers! i can't put my child's life into their hands any longer.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that an abnormal burning odor emitted from the vehicle and it overheated. in addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated to respond and the brakes made an abnormal noise. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the thermostat and water pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. when the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. a local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The vehicle sporadically will not stop despite flooring the brake while in reverse. most recently, i pulled the parking brake, put the vehicle in park and then back into reverse gear. the problem corrected itself.
