Traveling on interstate at about 65 mph when started losing power and the glow plug light started flashing then a complete stall. car is still in the service dept at vw. vw stated they are not quite sure what is wrong but suspect it was fuel related ("metal shavings in the fuel"). said they were sending it off for testing and maybe a week or two before they know something. *tr
We purchased a 2010 volkswagen jetta sportwagen tdi in july 2010. on july 21, 2011, the vehicle was given its first service at a volkswagen dealership in madison, wi. the next day, july 22, 2011, the car was to be driven from madison, wi, to nashville, tn. just past urbana, il, the vehicle began to overheat, increasing to 190 degrees. in addition, the acceleration ability began decreasing until the vehicle would not go more than 72 mph. the check engine light came on and began flashing. driving the vehicle became dangerous, and the vehicle was driven into a rest stop and turned off. volkswagen roadside assistance took the vehicle to the nearest dealership which was in urbana, il. o'brien volkswagen determined on july 23, 2011, that the fuel pump located in the gas tank was not operating properly. the replacement tank/pump has been ordered and is scheduled to be replaced in the vehicle on july 26, 2011. we found that this complaint has been made by others, and we hope that this will become an official recall. if it had been under recall when the vehicle received its service on july 21, the part(s) could have been replaced at that time, and the dangerous driving conditions could have been avoided. *tr
The following event occurred on 22 july 2011 in a 2010 vw jetta tdi with the dsg. weather was sunny, clear and approximately 94 degrees. time of day was 1630 hours. i was leaving work and i attempted to enter the interstate to go home. i pressed on the accelerator to merge into traffic. when i pushed on the pedal, the vehicle would not increase speed and the "check engine - service now' message appeared in the multi-function display. also, the glow plug indicator was illuminated. i pulled to the shoulder, turned off the vehicle and checked under the hood and under the body. nothing appeared out of place, broken, leaking or any other symptom which would be unusual. i closed the hood, entered the vehicle and restarted it. it started and idled fine. no warning messages or indicator lamps appeared. i put the car in gear and merged into traffic. after driving approximately 1 or 2 miles, the "check engine - service now" message reappeared and the mil lamp was illuminated. also, the battery light came on and the engine immediately stalled. i coasted to the shoulder and parked the vehicle. it would not restart. again, i exited the vehicle, checked under the hood and under the body but there were no signs of anything unusual. this was the first time this issue has occurred. the vehicle is currently at the dealer. the diagnosis is the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failed and cause metal shavings to be sent throughout the fuel system. the dealer stated they are waiting on the volkswagen technician to inform them on the correct parts to order. *tr
After reading some articles regarding possible problems with the fuel pump on my 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi, i realized that i may have had several related incidents. on two separate occasions over the past three months, the engine has mysteriously stopped as i slowed down at an intersection, then had troubles maintaining idle for several miles thereafter. it has been ok for the past few weeks, but now i am worried now that i understand a larger problem may be brewing... *tr
2010 my vw jetta sportwagen 2.0l tdi (diesel, manual transmission) after i took my vehicle for it's scheduled 30k mi. serviceback in 06/2011, i looked in the engine bay to wipe off any possible spillage, when low and behold i spot what looks like leaking from where the injectors meet the valve cover. i posted my findings on an internet forum (http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=320136). today, when i went to another internet forum, a member posted about 2011my's having the same problem as i encountered (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5392651-if-you-have-a-tdi-jsw-you-might-be-leaking-fuel-%28specially-2011-models%29.&s=be0d20e1355e3991aa5d443bc4f3604c). there is already a defect investigation summary with the nhtsa (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/defectsummary2.cfm?inv_id=22524&type=vehicle&typenum=1&cmpt_id=158&prod_id=954770&make=volkswagen&model=jetta%20sportwagen&model_yr=2011). would it be possible to reopen the investigation/add 2010 my's to the defect investigation? thank you *tr
On may 8,2011 my 2010 vw jetta tdi diesel shut down completely as i was driving at a speed of 40 miles per hour. after the car came to a complete stop, i waited a few minutes and the car started. this incident has happened at least 6 times prior to this complete shutdown of the engine. this problem started in the first thousand miles of use. the other 5 incidents just involved the car stalling for a few seconds and then started working again before the car completely stopped. the car has been fully maintained by the vw of old saybrook dealership in ct. the car has approximately 12,000 miles on it. the car was just brought in for its 10,000 mile maintenance check a few months ago bad fuel is not the case as i go to the same station and continued to do so for as long as i have had the car. i bring my 2004 diesel tdi there and have never had a problem at all. this is definitely a safety issue as i do a lot of highway driving with this car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact restarted the vehicle but the failure recurred within a few minutes. after the second failure, the check engine light was illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that the high pressure fuel pump exploded and sent metal fragments into the engine. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 37,700.
Jetta tdi diesel engine stall preceded by glow plug alarm and subsequent check engine light display. the car could be restarted after several tries and driven very slowly as the engine was extremely sluggish. this was the second time this failure occurred, the last being in november 2010. the first failure was corrected by a software update. in this second failure, the dealer said they found metal filings in the fuel system and they will replace all components in the fuel system and send the parts including the remaining fuel to germany for analysis. gas was suspected in the fuel, but ruled out by testing at the dealership. the dealer says vw does not know what the problem cause is and they have had similar failures in other jetta tdi's. *tr
Vehicle, a 2010 volkwagen jetta sportwagen tdi diesel model with about 2500 miles on it (nearly new) stalled in busy traffic leaving my wife stranded. vehicle had failure of high-pressure fuel pump, reported by many owners of recent volkwagen tdi models.
2010 vw sportwagen tdi 2.0 turbo, automatic. we had a major loss of power while driving at highway speed, glow plug light blinks, and flashing 'engine malfunction'. she pulled over safely and turned off. we had only 4000 miles on it. it started up after a few minutes. called the local vw dealer and was told it must be a fluke. told don't worry about it, drive it. if it happens again call them. it happened again, a few months latter with 8,000 miles on it. again the wife is driving. it was not for the faint hearted when at highway speed the engine looses all power and cuts out with heavy traffic! lucky everyone beside and around us were alert! she pulled over safely. same thing ... lights blinking glow plugs and engine coded malfunction. called local vw dealer, i told them they need to check it. asked what was the problem? anyone else have this same problem? vw explanation...well there was none. they would not commit to anything! had to schedule an appointment...ended up it will be a week before they can look at it. it would take about 1-1/2 hours service time? i started to check the tdi blogs for this problem. i got an ear full! high pressure diesel fuel pump failure. blogs have it at $9,000 to $10,000 repair cost? and may not be under vw warranty??? vw needs to do a recall? i see there are a lot of others out there like me. this is not safe. *tr
2010 vw jetta sportwagen tdi glow-plug light and check engine light begins blinking, loss of acceleration while driving. took to dealer, turbo and exhaust sensor replaced and car returned to owner. now, has been in many times for short hesitation and brief engine stoppage. fuel filter replaced, all screen filters checked for metal, associated with pump failure, in tank pump replaced, and computer updates. car is again back in owners hands and waiting to see if fixed. vw stated that vehicle will no longer be serviced for this on going problem until problem can be duplicated. this will be a challenge since it is a totally random event. i have seen in several forums that this problem can occur multiple times and has for owner. possible high pressure fuel pump disintegration is suspected cause. in addition to the obvious safety issues associated with this sudden loss of power, i am concerned about future failure due to faulty fuel pumps (if that is the cause) and the $9,000 repair cost. and of course being stranded on the side of the road carries its own hazards. *tr
My 2010 volkswagen jetta sportwagen has stalled two times since new. i am concerned it is the faulty fuel pump that you are investigating. i am stationed overseas with the us government in europe and have recently brought the car with us to denmark. it was purchased new in may 2010 from a pittsburgh, pa vw dealership. i am very concerned of a complete failure while driving at higher speeds. the car has only stalled while coming to a stop. *tr
Malfunction indicator, service engine began flashing, vehicle shut down and wouldn't restart. from first warning light to shut down was maybe 10 seconds or less. towed to dealer and two weeks later i had a completely new fuel system. apparently there was metal in the fuel system that got there from the hpfp. dealer repeatedly suggested that i must have filled the tank with gasoline instead of diesel. i don't appreciate the shift in blame. i understand the repair (covered under warranty) runs close to 10k dollars. yikes. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi. the contact stated that while driving through a traffic light the vehicle stalled. the contact tried to restart the vehicle for approximately five minutes. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test and could not duplicate the failure. the contact stated that he refueled his vehicle prior to it stalling. there was a defect investigation opened on february 7, 2011 and was open when the complaint was filed for the fuel system, diesel, nhtsa action number: ea11003. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage 3,337. updated 05/03/11*lj updated 08/05/11
While driving down the road normally, i observed a diesel smell in the cabin and that the fuel gauge was falling faster than normal. pulled into parking lot and turned off engine. upon inspection, diesel smell pronounced by the hood area. opened hood and smoke was coming from the engine block area at a moderate rate. diesel was dripping on the inside of the right front tire. diesel continued leaking for one hour. at this time, i felt it was a safety hazard to attempt to drive the car any further. i contacted vw roadside assistance and the car was towed to a vw dealer. i did not have a chance to observe if the diesel leak had stopped. furthermore, the car had been fueled from an empty tank to about half a tank before this trip (according to fuel gauge). this trip was approximately 30 miles highway driving. the fuel tank capacity of this car is 13 gallons and the average economy over this trip was recorded as 35.7 mpg. when the car was shut off, the gauge read approximately 1/4 full. this suggests that the car was leaking several gallons of diesel per hour. the car was bought in may 2010 (this complaint is written on march 6, 2011) new with 11 miles on it. was serviced on october 2011 as per owners manual. no damage or other issues to the car. no severe service. mainly used to commute to and from work and run errands. *tr
On a 40 degree day i drove the car about 1 mile. at a traffic light it stalled. i had to keep the car in park until the light changed, then i put it in drive. when the car was initially started it didn't seem right. it didn't seem to have power or pick up. i noticed the tachometer was quickly bouncing between 1800 rpm down to 400 rpm prior to stalling. car had half a tank of diesel, outside weather conditions were dry. *tr the consumer stated the stalling is still ongoing. the dealer believed the stalling was a result of different additives in the fuel between winter and summer. updated 09/14/11
On 2/14/11, while driving downhill in commuter traffic at about 30 mph, my 2010 vw sportwagon tdi stalled for no apparent reason and failed to restart. i was able to pull off the road and, after a short wait, the engine restarted. at first it idled very roughly at 800 rpm, but eventually the idle smoothed at 1,000 rpm, and i was able to proceed to work. my vehicle has less than 10,000 miles on it and was just serviced by vw three weeks ago. i report this because i just saw this weekend an article on bloomberg about vw diesel engines having fuel pump problems. this is the only stalling episode i have experienced with this vehicle to date. *tr

My 2010 jetta tdi volkswagen had 12,759 miles on it and ran perfectly fine until all of a sudden while i was driving it on a trip it started to shake and rattle. within less than a few minutes the car just stopped running while i was in the middle of the road and would not start again. i had to have it towed to a vw dealer. it was a total fuel pump failure; they found metal shavings in the filter housing and in the tank. vw replaced all fuel system components under warranty. vw claimed this only happens if gasoline is put in the diesel tank, but i never put gas in the tank and the dealer could not find any gas the system. *tr

2010 vw tdi jetta wagon i own a 2010 vw tdi jetta wagon and early jan/feb i smelled diesel fuel coming into my car (the car at the time had 8,000 miles). also, i noticed diesel fuel dripping on my driveway. i reported the incident to the dealer, where they first advised that the fuel injector needed to be tightened. the next day same problem persisted. they replaced one of the injectors. the smell continued until i instructed them to order a new hood insulator cover and engine cover (both were saturated with diesel. my car was at the dealer for close to three weeks between all three visits. my concern is that the other three injectors have the same issue and this will occur again. *tr

2010 jetta diesel automobile. problems with engine stalling and/or power down problems. almost hit by another vehicle in a left hand turn twice because vehicle stalled. we have returned it to the dealership several times, but they deny anything is wrong. it does not happen all the time, but very frightening when it does happen. we purchased the car in dec 2010 and it has happened 16 times, 8 in major traffic. *tr
2010 jetta sportwagen tdi; vehicle lost power but continued running. dash warning lights(glow plug lamp flashing) were illuminated. dealer stated fuel contamination. fuel tests, by an actual fuel lab, show fuel in the system met all astm standards for diesel fuel oils. premature failure of the materials which compose the fuel filter/ water separator housing were apparent however they were attributed to "water" in the fuel which is ironic being that it is a fuel filter/water separator. the hpfp ( high pressure fuel pump ) was most probably the root cause of the entire failure. vw's resolution was to involve my insurance as the method of payment to replace the entire fuel system(tank to injectors). i can not however use the insurance to complete this claim as it would be fraud knowing that the actual problem is the responsibility of volkswagen. *tr
While driving on interstate, without warning or change of throttle, engine slowed noticeably. unable to maintain highway speed without high fuel consumption and dangerously slow acceleration. dashboard light indicated problem with glowplug (diesel engine) and check engine light stayed on. took to local dealer next day; tech replaced "pressure pipe" (faulty charge pressure sensor on high pressure filter pump) and "flashed" ecm. engine's acceleration still below what it was prior to event. *tr
1. driving normally on highway when it came on and the car lost power suddenly and could not accelerate any further. also car stalled several times on its own while idling at a traffic light (its an automatic transmission this should not be happening). 2. this is the second time this same problem has happened in first 20k miles of this vehicle its an 2010 vw tdi. first time it was at 9800 mile mark same light and problem came on they replaced a egr valve and now again at 19800miles. 3. they have replaced a part at 9800 miles and now replacing it again at 19800miles. it seems to be a repeat problem with this vehicle and very dangerous to have it slow down like that while driving and also stall out while in traffic. *tr
My vehicle is a 2010 jetta tdi sedan, purchased in july, 2010 in frederick, md. there are now 10,000 miles on the car. within weeks of purchase, i began noticing a hesitation in the engine after cresting a hill and proceeding down the other side of the hill with my foot releasing somewhat from the accelerator. the hesitation lasts for several seconds. next, at approximately 1900 rpm the engine will occasionally hesitate and even buck. most importantly, on three occasions the engine has continuously hesitated during my 35-mile commute. the feeling is akin to a gas engine running lean or out of tune. when i arrive home and turn off the key on these occasions, there is an astounding amount of heat surrounding the engine compartment, and the automatic cooling fan kicks on and runs for five minutes or more. the car is currently in the dealer repair shop, where i was told that the high pressure fuel pump contains metal shavings and is in the process of destroying itself. i am aware via the internet that others have had similar problems with the tdi engine and that vw has tended to blame the problem on customers adding gasoline to the fuel tank. i have most definitely not used gasoline at any time. i wanted to add my voice to others, so that vw can be encouraged to remedy the situation properly. *tr
I have a 2010 vw jetta tdi diesel sportswagen that i purchased new. the car has 12,000 miles since new. the car has been maintained by an authorized dealer per the recommended maintenance schedule. while driving the car it suddenly lost power without warning, requiring immediate action on my part to avoid a major accident. the car's warning system displayed check engine and service required annunciation. after the power loss. the sudden complete loss of power concerns me regarding the safety of driving the car, i've since been online and read the accounts of dozens of owners that have had this same problem with the 2009-10 tdi vw jetta. all seem to be related to fuel pump failures. the car will be towed to the dealership tomorrow for service. but looking at the other accounts of this problem, it would appear that the dealerships are not having complete success in resolving this problem. *tr
2010 vw tdi ----- check engine light at 9800 miles. vw says "contaminated diesel in filter area" and "not covered under warranty" they believe they can make our auto insurance pay...showing a little gunk or rusty sheen within filter canister area. will keep calling vw warranty...trying to have the +$6,000 repair covered. i believe this car suffered fatal hpfs failure.. 20 full tanks of fuel since purchased new - all from race-way or murphys(walmart) ulsd no further evidence of contamination in tank.....yet. car still at vw. *tr
I have 2010 vw jetta tdi, 6 speed manual transmission with 30k miles on it. as i was trying to merge into traffic, i tried to accelerate and the car would not go'it acted like it died. i had a car right behind me and another one merging from the right so i had no place to go but forward. i downshifted and still no power. eventually, and thankfully without a crash, it gained momentum and it didn't kill. for the next 5 miles or so, it continued to spit and sputter and as i was coasting down a hill without the car being in gear, i revved up the car to listen to the engine and it would not go beyond 2100 rpm. i made it to work and had no more problems yesterday. i immediately called the dealer and will be dropping the car off today for diagnosis. this 'stalling' has happened in the past for me, maybe 6 times, but it was not abrupt or alarming so i thought it was just me trying to accelerate in a gear that was too high for the power i needed. i have used nothing but the recommended diesel fuel and have never put regular gasoline in it. i am the only driver of this car. hopefully, i don't get the run around but am afraid of what is going to happen because i only have 6k miles on the bumper to bumper warranty. we will see what they say today. *tr

2010 vw tdi jetta sportswagen currently has 18675 miles, however, problem started at approximately 5000 miles. engine feels like it loses power and starting to stall when in 3rd/4th gear and between 30 to 40 mph. at times it is like a small hiccup at other times it is quite severe and causes the car to lurch violently - has locked the seat belt up when this occurs as i am thrown forward hard. occasionally same thing will happen in higher gear, but pretty much every day in 3rd or 4th gear. have taken the car back to the dealer multiple times and complained about problem each time. response has been they cannot duplicate and can find no problem. on last service they replaced the fuel filter said it "might" be clogged. no improvement - problem still happening. buy my diesel fuel from the same stations all the time and the same stations i purchased diesel fuel for my 2004 golf tdi with 150,000 miles on it and never had any problem with that car. *tr
3/23/11 i own a 2010 vw jetta tdi with 6 speed manual transmission. it was purchased 9/15/11. i have been driving manual transmissions my entire driving life. when we first purchased it i knew there would be an adjustment as the gear box was much tighter than my crv. initially, i attributed the occasional stalling to my learning curve, as did my husband when he drove it. however, it became apparent that there was more to the story. it seems to stall often and the problem is becoming more frequent. it is not attributable to our driving habits. it suddenly stalls - it just stops, no jerking, nothing it just turns off. it seems to happen more often in the lower gears but it has happened in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and it seems to be when turning left. it also happens when going slowly up an incline. and as i record the incidents it is often around 35mph. otherwise it is random, unpredictable and intermittent. i cannot makeit happen. it, also, has a miss. as i am driving it will skip a beat, hesitate and then continue. it has nearly shut off but then continued. it has happened while my husband is driving as well. it has happened in traffic and on the highway. this problem is also, random, unpredictable and intermittent. i cannot make this happen either. i have had it into the dealership three times. the first two times they were unable to reproduce it, no surprise, and there were no codes. i kept a record of the occurrences and took it back. the dealership, again they could not reproduce it and we were told there were no codes. the operations manager told me they believed me but if they could not reproduce it and there were no codes they had no direction and could do nothing about it and could not open a case. this was not acceptable, they agreed to bring it back for 2 days so they could ?put some miles on it?. i reported this to vw of america and a casemanagement was opened on 3/22/11. it has been @ the dealership for 2 days i was informed today they will keep it for a. *tr

09/29/11 4:30 pm 2010 jetta 14,734 miles od. just cut off at 50 mph in traffic. started to loose power then it cut off. then all [xxx] broke loose. it ( baby car) cut of without warning. looked down , saw @ glow plug light@ flash then coasted over to the side of the road. took vw tow 1 hr to arrive (kids were in the car i was blocking the bus lane). it cost me $ 20.00 worth of crap at rite-aid to sooth the beasts, kids while waiting. i called cerritos mckenna vw and tim (my reg service writer) said he knew what is was and it rarely happened it is the fuel pump explodes and sends metal chips throughout the fuel system. he said he would wait for us. when i got there[xxx] (my reg guy) was gone , no where to be found. henry (new guy, i think/know i have bra's older then this kid) helped me out and said. oh yeah ,this happens all the time a design flaw on the tdi's and they know all about it. i will take 3 days to get the parts. first, he tried to say that it is because i had it serviced it somewhere else. wrong looked at the records i have only had it worked on at cerritos mckenna vw and further more i have had the oil change every 5000 no matter what. i only by diesel at shell / union 76 and no one else drives baby car , not even the hubby. he hates the car maybe he knew something i did not but i will not let him know he was right.. never...this car hogs up the garage, now she is in the car port status no longer baby car but jetta car or bad car. cerritosvw mckenna has had baby car 7 days and counting. you mark my words if this car dies one more time i will dump it at carmax. i will lower and drive the grand caravan 2007 (no problems ever). i spent 35,000 on this baby car aka jetta wetta and only have 14,743 miles @@on it. that is what makes me mad and then it is made in flipping mexico. this is not a daewoo. ...
Yesterday (18/09/2010), my 2010 jetta tdi stalled for 1-2 secs when we were crossing to another side of the street after picking my son from a birthday party. we were almost rammed by another car which was going at a high rate of speed. the engine stalls for 1-2 secs before going again even though i had stepped the gas pedal all the way down. it refired again and sped up again. i don't know what have caused this but my oldest son also noticed that during his everyday driving to university. have reported to vw canada website complaint today (19/09/2010). especially occurred in first and second gear. *tr
My 2010 volkswagen jetta sportwagen tdi with 18,000 miles was making a very rough sound shortly after a non-cold startup. a few minutes later, the engine ground to a halt with a loud crunch sound and shut down. vehicle was towed to a local volkswagen dealership. dealership found problem to be a high-pressure fuel pump failure. diesel fuel in tank was not contaminated. volkswagen replaced the entire fuel system under warranty. *tr
On friday, sept 10, 2010, while driving south on the i 605 freeway (los angeles county) at approximately 12 noon at speeds of 60 to 65 mph the engine, without warning, died, stopped. i managed to get onto the shoulder and eventually restart the engine. this failure happened two more times on the freeway. on the final stop, after calling vw, i was able to restart the car and complete my drive home (approx. 60 miles). that evening while driving to the local market the same thing happened with the engine two more times. i notified the drew vw dealership of the problem and arrangements were made to use their roadside service and have it towed to the carlsbad, ca dealership for diagnosis and repair. it has now been there three days. an additional frequent problem is the engine stalling when leaving a stop. *tr
2010 vw jetta sportwagen tdi "glowplug" light begins blinking, loss of acceleration while driving at highway speed. i am from fl and was in the houston area at the time. drove car to nearest vw dealer. dealer found metal particles in the fuel filter and i had to rent a car to get back to fl. the repair took 2.5 weeks and the car was trucked to my local vw dealer. i was never told the cause of the issue and have seen in several forums that this problem can occur multiple times.high pressure fuel pump disintegration is suspected cause. besides the safety issue of sudden loss of the ability to accelerate, i am concerned about future failure due to faulty fuel pumps (if that is the cause) and the $9,000 repair cost. *tr
2010 jetta tdi stalls when starting out. mostly occurs in 1st gear and sometimes 2nd gear if slowing down (to take a turn for example). it seems as if it needs to be given an extra surge of fuel by depressing the gas pedal more than usual in order to get past this point. i have been driving a manual for 15 years - 4 of them jettas - and have never encountered this kind of 'play' in the clutch. this makes for an incredibly dangerous situation when pulling out onto a highway with oncoming traffic. even knowing the potential for stalling and compensating, i still stall at least once a week. i'm not sure if vw has acknowledged this as a serious problem yet, but i would hope it is investigated and that a fix is made known asap. *tr

2010 vw jetta 2.0 tdi cup edition: entering traffic in first gear, at about 4000-4200 rpm, car had a complete loss of power. engine did not die. i pushed in clutch and power returned. this has occurred monthly with no consistency since i purchased the car in july 2010. occurs with a warm engine. cold engine. various levels of fuel, and various climate conditions. it has been taken to o'brien volkswagen, a certified repair facility, every 3-6 months to have the issue resolved. dealership can not replicate the issue and as a result has not solved the problem. problem has been witnessed by three different passengers. a secondary stalling issue occurs between 1200-1800 with light gas peddle pressure. in this case, the car has a small pause or decrease in power. down shifting and accelerating eliminates the problem. *tr
Brand new volkswagen jetta sportwagen tdi has stalled at speeds from 25-65 mph with absolutely no warning (no warning lights or messages and no change in driving performance). this has occurred 3 times at approximately 4k miles. the 3rd time the car had to be towed from a major expressway since the engine would not restart. the vw dealer found fault code p2146. they did not find anything wrong with the car during testing and simply cleared the codes with the assistance of a vw of america technician working remotely. the vw of america tech advised test driving 20 miles and returning the car to us. the car worked well for the next 5k miles but has now stalled randomly again twice while driving. i was nearly hit today as the car stalled in the middle of an intersection as i was turning left. prior events have led to nearly being rearended on 4 lane highways with 2 adults and a 3 and 5 year old in the back seat. this is my first new car and i have never felt this unsafe in cars i have owned that are over 10 years old. vw seems to think it is ok to return this car to customers and will not provide me any information on the frequency of this occurrence in this make and model across the country. i am having it towed to the vw dealer (sutliff in harrisburg pa) where i bought the car. they indicated they will work on the car again. i'm afraid this will just mean clearing codes and test driving. the mechanics have all agreed that they would not feel safe driving their family in my car...my new car. note: rvutb 2414/yl 2.0l tdi ecm softward update was performed on this car as part of recall between incidents. *tr
