We have classified the 208 complaints from 2010 Volkswagen Jetta about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.

HORN 4 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL 2 SOFTWARE 1

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Abs module has failed. fuel pump has failed. 3 door lock modules have failed. radio has failed. fuel pump issues caused battery drain issues.

My 2010 jetta wolfsburg's locks do not work whenever it rains - driver's side door is locked when unlock car, but other doors are unlocked. have to use key to open door. furthermore, the passenger door on driver's side does not lock at all so can be opened when parked at a light, etc. the car has a sunroof and when rains condensation builds up around passenger side door and window on driver's side (have seen mildew and mold growing so clean after ever rain). radio was working and died during rain. fuses are ok. dealer says radio is dead and $900 to replace with a factory one. i am concerned about side airbags working along with being able to open a door that should be locked.

Same ... i couldn't turn off my car or take the keys out, the car was on for more that 3 hrs, took the car to vw and they are charging me $800+ for fixing it, i let my car there and it was still on. this is a vw problem, and they should do a recall and/or at least recognize part of the fixing on these models, where is the consumer product help? we need a recall on this ignition box problems, this is dangerous . also they should reimburse all of us

Random misfire permanent cylinder v and after the start of effects on the automatic transmission heard tuba and some of the development

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the key became stuck in the run position in the ignition. the contact struck the ignition with a hammer lightly and the key was able to be released. the vehicle was taken to ciocca volkswagen (1346 lehigh st, allentown, pa 18103, (610) 797-6330) where the contact was informed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,000.

Ignitions switch won't turn off and car keeps running until brought to shop to turn off. many attempts to get the ignition switch to turn off failed, before this happen few time the car turned off for no reason, not sure if it is related to the ignition switch not turning off problem.

Key constantly gets stuck in ignition switch and can't turn vehicle off. vehicle remains running while key wont turn in off position. had to disconnect battery terminal and fuel pump fuse to shut vehicle off. key still remains stuck in ignition switch.

The door locks/latches for vw jetta wolfsburg edition 2010 are not working (currently, three out of four doors/latches are not working). the estimated cost for replacement is $595 per door latch (total estimated cost: $1,785). while it may pose a safety risk, it is also possible that the side airbags may or may not work when there are electrical issues with the door locks/latches. there is also a possibility for theft when the door locks are not working. also, turn signals on both side-view mirrors are not working. the estimated cost for replacement of turn signal on each side is $437 (total estimated cost: $874). for the replacement of defective door locks/latches (3 out of 4 doors) and turn signals on side-view mirrors (both left and right side), the estimated total cost will be $2,659. another important point: between december 2017 and december 2018, there were several problems in this car (vw jetta wolfsburg edition 2010). examples of these problems were clock-spring/airbag/engine-light-on, build-up of carbon in engine valves, coolant and water pump leakage, and timing chain/tensioner. during this one-year period with 3 visits to vw dealership/service department, an amount of over $5,000 has already been spent. thus, there is a constant problem with vw jetta wolfsburg edition 2010.

The key is stuck in the on position with engine running. had to pull relay to stop engine. unable to remove key from the ignition switch. dealer charges $600-$800 to repair.

The key gets stuck in the ignition switch and it won't turn on or off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while driving 25 mph, the brake lights and headlights failed to work properly. the contact stated that the bulbs were replaced every two months. the vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

The radio stopped working completely, which seems like a common problem. but in addition the lights were malfunctioning from that point on. 12 different error warnings appeared on the readout about different lights not working. i checked the fuses and all of them were ok, not burned. several years ago i had one of the headlights intermittently not work. at that point i checked the fuses and there was one fuse that had a deformed plastic cap, but the metal part was still in one piece. part of the fuse box it was inserted in was melted. this all happened when i first started the car. obviously i could not operate the car since the brake lights, turn signals, and headlights were all affected. the diagnostic display in the car also showed to check the airbags and stability control.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while the vehicle was stationary, the vehicle would not start when prompted. lithia auto store (7063 south virginia st, reno, nv 89511) was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle's software needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

Not able to turn key in the ignition. sometimes not able to start car. sometimes not able to turn car off.

I have problems with the blinkers, emergency flashers, sunroof and door locks coming on, not working properly and adjusting all on their own. now my radio is not working at all. there are no recalls on any of this only warranty extension is on the secondary air sensor. most happens vehicle is on or off. parked or running.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. after operating the vehicle, the radio failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to volkswagen princeton (902 state rd, princeton, nj 08540) where it was diagnosed that the radio needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

The lights are all crossed. the left turn signal is weaker on the driver mirror. the overhead lights seemed to be crossed. you turn one off and the passenger lights in back come on. the bluetooth stopped working. it is like it has a shirt in it. this is while driving as well as stationary in car port.

Takata recall. i was in the mountains of nc camping. my jetta was working perfectly fine. i went to start it the next day and the radio was completely dead. the jetta is not very old. also, the back left break light and front right headlight was not working. the breaklight and the headlight started working as i was driving it, but the stereo has been dead for almost a week now. this should not happen. i did a search online and hundreds of other people are having the same exact problem with their radio in the same year jetta as mine. this should not be happening and i wish volkswagen would take care of this problem as it is pretty common.

The radio/bluetooth/cd player completely stopped working when the ignition turned on. it had worked the previous day. i took it to my mechanic. it is not the fuse. it needs a complete new radio system. i called the dealer, but it is not covered under warranty. the total would be $800+. after checking on line, i find that there are multiple complaints on this same subject.

Key gets stuck in ignition and i cannot turn off the engine. i got home from running errands. parked in my driveway and could not turn car off. key was stuck

The abs system went out of control, all of the sudden the lights on the dashboard where on. the car was in motion when this happened it was a scary situation! there is a local volkswagen near my house and this people suggest me to change the entire abs pump, vacuum pump and they got the nerve to charge me for the car revision when they knew this car is on recall.

My key has been difficult to turn in the ignition to start the car recently. yesterday i had the same problem but the car started. after driving the car the key would not turn to turn off the car. no matter what i can not get the key out of the ignition. i only got the motor to shut off because my son knew to pull a fuse and then take off a battery cable. this ignition problem is serious and is a safety issue if you can't turn off the car.

As with most other 2010 vw jetta owners, my premium 8 touch screen radio (sn: vwz4z7j3024044) stopped working, no warning or intermittent problems prior to the failure. i have been taking a great care of my jetta which has very low miles (33k) and i never have had a radio fail in any my previous cars, one of them was also a vw car. my local vw dealership wants to charge me $600 for a refurbished radio plus $70 for the installation. i have reviewed various online forums and discovered this is a common problem with the revision of this radio for the 2010-2011 model year. unfortunately volkswagen has done nothing to issue recall. the car has integrated hands free bluetooth which also does not work because of the radio and is a safety issue for hands free calling required in my state. also, this will cause a drain on the battery which could result in not being able to start the vehicle after sitting too long.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the air bag and brake indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,800.

As with most other 2010 vw jetta owners, my radio has gone out not once but now twice. there is an electrilcal problem on the drivers side of hte car because not only does this happen but my head lights, running lights burn out at a mind blowing rate. it is a safety issue for many reasons, most being the fact that my handsfree bluetooth is not functioning now and i drive for my job! this is the second radio i will have had to replace. ridiculous.

I am unable to carry rear passengers (adults or kids) as the rear door do not operate consistently.i consider this a major safety concern. dealer wants a large amount of money to replace two rear wiring harness as well as the electronic door actuators. this seems to be improper lack in the wiring harness to the rear doors. i have never had so many electrical problems with a vehicle is short a period of time. this really needs to be address so that nobody is injured form a door that will not open from the outside or inside, inconstantly. i will hold both nhtsa as well as vw if a tragic event does unfortunately does occur. this item has been posted numerous time in ve formus. my jetta tdi has 156k miles, and it makes no difference to weather or time of day. this is a persistent problem that does not ever go away. please investigate this major safety consern.

out of the blue the premium 8 touch screen radio stopped working, no warning or intermittent problems, prior to the failure. i had a mechanic check the radio fuses and nothing was blown or needed repair. everything was normal. this problem has occurred multiple times on vw forums. even though this a major inconvenience it is still component, much like windshield wipers that ou just expect to work. time in the vw forums. this needs to be placed/fixed. i never have had a radio fail in any previous car. i am really regreting my purchase of this sub-par, poorly enginered vehical.

The key would not turn in the ignition switch, and i was unable to turn the car off. the car was stopped and in park. i had to bring the car to the dealer and they told me that my only option to fix the problem was to replace the ignition component.

Rear electric doors will unlock consistently. dealer ran diagnostic which points to a faulty wiring harness. this seems like a production issues and needs to be corrected. end result rear doors can not be opened unless you use the inside door lever. first responders or good samaritans will not be able to pull people from the rear passenger area. this happens intermittently vw forums cite similar problems.

While recently driving the vehicle the gear indicator in the instrument panel began to flash and then disappeared, no longer revealing what gear the car was in while in forward motion, and car began to lose momentum while driving and began sounding and moving as though the car was placed in neutral. upon stopping the car and again attempting to drive forward, the car engine revved as though in neutral. had car towed to dealer where they drove it and mentioned the wiring harness leaking oil/fluid. i have had this car at the dealer 4 times within a 6 month period (may-nov 2016) for preventative maintenance, as i keep this car in excellent condition and have it checked throughout the year to prevent issues from occurring. during all these times i had no issues until now, as again, i work very hard to maintain this vehicle. i have since done much research on this matter and have had an opportunity to speak with other vw owners who have expressed having very similar issues which falls in line with the issued recall announced august 20, 2009. i have records of all service i have had done for this automobile since it's purchase. i can either mail or fax the information to you for review. thank you! *tr

Car won't start, jumped, drove and failed to start next day, own test and has current draw when off, took to dealer, said radio is causing problem, won't (go to sleep mode when turned off), told $800 to replace the radio, checked on line and i see so many, thousands i hear, problems with radios on this style car, if volkswagen won't stand behind a known issue and go back on their supplier for a resolution, i will not stand behind volkswagen and purchase another one when the time comes for a replacement vehicle, if this was a safety issue i'm sure some legal action would be taken, but it's only a radio, costing a lot of people, i'm guessing millions of dollars

Radio is dead. see all the many complaints from other owners here: https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 safety concern with no bluetooth function since the radio is dead. battery has been replaced twice. an issue many others have posted about. vw chat says there is no campaign for either of these issues and just gave me a case number. the seat showed early deteriation while under warranty and was pointed out to the dealer, stokes vw several times. but they never wrote it up on the service order. another problem 2010 jetta owners have posted about.

The car radio does not work. no display. no power. first was an intermittent problem when starting up the car, no display or radio power. now no radio or display anytime.

Started the car and the stereo just stayed black and will no longer turn on. fuses are in working condition. the battery is now slowly dying because the radio is still drawing power. have seen multiple complaints regarding this issue and volkswagen has done nothing.

I drove to work listening to the radio. upon returning to my car after work to make my commute home the radio would not turn on. i have reviewed various online forums and discovered this is a common problem with the revision of this radio for the 2010 model year. this model has integrated hands free bluetooth which also does not work and is a safety issue for hands free calling required in my state. also, this will cause a drain on the battery which could result in not being able to start the vehicle after sitting too long.

Car was taken into dealership in april 2015 for inspection. needed new struts and driver door panel, door needed fixed due to no lights on locks and door itself would not lock. paid $1400 for everything when picking up the car, got in car and radio did not work when picking up. said it was a fuse, never fixed the problem. september 2015 windshield wipers quit working. $45 for that repair. 2-3 weeks later battery died. replaced the battery for $111. 3-4 weeks later battery was dead again, had to tow it to shop. replaced battery again $200+ parts and labor. 3-4 weeks later after replacing the battery twice, same thing happens again. car is dead, towed to shop again. can't figure out the problem, towed to dealership. taken to a dealership for one problem of the car being dead now there is a shifter problem and the abs unit needs replaced. the abs lights were not on while the car was at the last shop before this dealership. the car hasn't been driven for approximately 5-6 months if not longer due to these issues. how does my abs unit need replaced if it hasn't been driven?

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the electrical system was defective and caused electrical failures in several areas. the front passenger side low and high beam headlights and the turn signals failed. in addition, the driver side brake, tail light, and day time running lights failed. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

First noticed the rear passenger backup light not working. 1 stop and a few minutes later the passenger headlight went out. after returning home 15 minutes later the entire passenger side except the taillight was out. after searching on the internet fuse f16 has a known issue of melting both the fuse and the fuse box. sure enough after removing and inspecting, the passenger side of the fuse has begun to melt and the female fuse terminals and plastic fuse box around the connection have all started to melt. turning the fuse around has gotten the lights working again for tonight, but will likely need to replace the entire fuse box as a permanent fix.

My car radio suddenly just stopped. it was playing one minute and the next it was off and would not play any more. i thought it was a fuse issue. it was not, last winter (dec. 2014) i had to have the battery replaced. during the whole process of being jumped etc, the car radio would work intermittently. so i thought once i had the new battery it would work-it didnt. went to the dealer to have it checked out (officially just for the radio over the summer) dealer said i would need a new radio. so i have been without for over a year. today it was bitter cold in mi and my battery needed a jump again, during this process, the radio again came on for a few minutes. once the car was fully charged and rolling, the radio completely died again. this car is only 5 years old, under 90,000 miles-it should not have a radio issue. as a result the hands free phone system doesn't work either.

Multiple lights suddenly quit working. found the f16 fuse melted as well as fuse box where it sits. this is second time to replace fuse in 4 months, first time melted this bad.

Radio on 2010 vw jetta tdi died durring the summer. now, in november, the car will not start unless jumped with another car or battery charger. fuses in car are intact.

My radio in this car suddenly went black. all door locks work when they want too. i have two small children and the child safety locks do not work. bluetooth is no longer working since it is tied into the radio. in my city of greenville, sc is it illegal to talk on phone when driving. these are major safety concerns since it relates to my wife and two small children. this is obviously a big problem with this year jetta from all the complaints online. i will never again buy a volkswagen if they as a company do not see the urgency on this issue. what's it gonna take someone losing their life because of a electrical problem they are clearly aware of?

Door locks failed and had to be replaced. battery drain when not used for two weeks, requiring jump start (replaced battery one year ago). car would not start (battery wouldn't even turn over, yes the same new battery) towed to dealer who said they replaced some fuses. recently, radio will not power on. dealer states the radio failed, fuses fine. i have seen 100s of reports of failed radios and door locks in the 2010 jetta. there must be a faulty electrical system in this vehicle. cars that are 5 years old (i have seen reports of this happening when the car is only 3 years old) are not supposed to have these problems. all of these problems have occurred in the past year, mileage between 100-110k.

Fort two years i have complained to vw dealer that door locks were not working. they never put it on a repair/service form. when i brought the car in, they said the door locks work fine, one just has to pull twice, to exit. but they could not say how to lock all the doors when parking on the street. my door locks have not worked properly since the vehicle was new. i took the bus to the dealer to complain that my keys were locked in the car. they said that was "impossible" and it took me a week and $500.00 to get my car towed, new keys and resets. i am livid. doors won't all lock most of the time. or unlock, most of the time. i believe that not being able to reliably exit a car or lock it when leaving it is a safety issue. this is my second complaint to you about this car, the first time because of software that stalled the car in intersections which had to be federally ordered recall. i think the dealer refused to look into the door locking problems during warranty in hopes that i would return again and again to have locks repaired until i was out of warranty. this stinks. and it is clearly unsafe.

Radio in 2010 jetta tdi stopped working. it looks like it has no power but all fuses check good. there is many many of these same issues with the delphi radios in the jettas in 2010. follow this link to see the many owners that have been turned away with there faulty radios. the main safety issues is there is no longer the use of hands free cell phone using the bluetooth option. when my radio failed i drove the car on a saturday morning and everything was in working order. when my wife got in to go to the store 30 min later the radio was completely dead. http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583

Dead radio and battery has parasitic drain my radio died. the screen went black while driving and it has not recovered. since then i have had battery drainage problems. one of the fuses, #42 i believe, has blown and i have tried to replace it, but it blows again as soon as the car is turned on. there are a number of online forums documenting this and similar radio problems with this vehicle. here is one: http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 here is another: http://devforums2.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=389797&highlight=2010+jetta+dead+radio

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while driving at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the vehicle needed a software update. the vehicle was repaired; however, the part that the technician repaired caused other malfunctions to the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 121,000.

While driving, the car inadvertently disengages the dsg transmission resulting in no power transfer to the wheels. the car also displays an "esp error" (electronic stability program) in conjunction with the transmission problem. once the car is shifted into park and turned off, and then back on, the problem is resolved temporarily. it happens without warning and poses danger for the driver and occupants. this initially happened 2 months prior after a headlight burned out and the bulb status light on the dash came on. the transmission disengagement event occurred once or twice before the headlight was replaced. after replacing the light bulb, the transmission error appeared to resolve itself. two months later, the event occurred following the failure of a valve stem with tpms sensor on the tire. the repair shop did not have any tpms sensors in stock and replaced the stem with a rubber one. this resulted in the tpms status light being on in the dash. coincidentally, within a couple days of this, the dsg transmission /esp error re-emerged. this time around the error occurred every 5 to 10 minutes of driving. this disengagement happened during city and highway driving at varying speeds. disabling esp and driving in manual mode did not fix the problem. this leaves the occupants in a dangerous situation, especially when driving through construction zones and other areas without adequate shoulders on the road. the car is up to date on preventative maintenance. car is at 113,000 miles. extended warranty expired at 109,000. neither vw of america or warranty company say they can assist. dealership service cannot specifically diagnose the problem and suggest either mechatronic unit replacement ($2,000) might solve the problem. if not, complete transmission replacement ($5,000) is recommended.

Add another 2010 vw owner to list of radio issues with the car. car radio and bluetooth are no longer working. i checked the fuses per the owner manual, and radio is still not working. this looks like it's been happening quite a bit on the 2010 jetta. this a big safety issue since i am unable to call with the bluetooth. i contacted vw of american, and they basically said i had to pay for a diagnosis test which i see as being pointless since i am already know the radio is dead. i don't understand the reason to have to pay $$$ so i can be told it's dead. if a lot of jetta owners are having the same issue why is vw referring me to contact my local vw dealer to have this fixed when it's becoming a common occurrence on a lot of the cars. vw should be fixing the car radio on the car with this many complaints out there. instead i am told to contact the service department.

The day i received the email from the nhtsa for the clock springs failing on my make and model of vehicle my airbag light came on. at first i didn't think anything of it and then i lost my horn and radio controls on my steering wheel. since i had just read the investigation that is been initiated i knew that is what it was. it is the only part that powers the steering wheel. the campaign number for that is 15v483000. it still drives just as it always has but i don't have any steering controls and if i were to get in an accident hard enough to deploy air bags my drivers side would not deploy.
