We have classified the 62 complaints from 2002 Toyota Sequoia about STEERING into the following categories.
When the vehicle is in motion the vsc trac lights come on and the brakes active on their own causing the cracking noise and a rough jerk motion to the car. this has happened several times both on the highway and city streets even when driving 10 miles per hour
The first indication that something was wrong was the first week of september 2019. i was driving down a county road when the lights indicator lights for the trac and vsc started flashing and beeping when i drove over some bumps. the lights would not go off even when pressing trac off. i turned off the car and restarted it and the lights were off but only for about 15 minutes into my drive. i took it to the toyota dealership and the agent said he did not know anything about the system and i would have to bring it back for diagnostics. that night i was getting ready to go over a rather large bridge when all of the sudden the car jerked twice to the right with the second event pulling me off the road. it was extremely frightening and terrified us all. thank god it did not happen on the bridge or under other circumstances. the vsc and trac lights came on at approximately the same time as they had been off. i contacted toyota corporate and essentially they said that the vehicle was not under warranty. this is an extremely dangerous situation. thankfully i am a experienced driver but if it would have been one of my kids, i don't know if the outcome would have been the same. the local toyota dealership has been of no help. the car is sitting in my drive. i implore you to further investigate this failure of the system before someone gets killed.
Just driving along, and feels like brakes grab and jerk the wheel and vsc trac lights go on. problem has been occurring intermittently. can be at highway speeds, but also happens at any speed. very dangerous and scary. vsc-trac and trac-off lights randomly illuminated on dry, level pavement when brakes were applied, causing a loud grinding noise (much louder than normal application of anti-lock brakes).
Tamara recall: i was going 60 mph when my traction control lights started blinking. it started making a grinding noise and front end shaking and loss of power steering it has 190,000 miles on it
Driving the vehicle at about 60mph, grinding sound, loss of power steering control, pulls to the right side, deceleration, loud noise like a tire blowout, vsc lights on dash come on. this has happened 4 times while driving the vehicle, no warning and you must pull over and turn the engine off and it will reset so you are able to start the vehicle to continue. very scary incidents!!!
Frame rust. my mechanics will not lift the truck because of extensive frame rust
My vehicle's vehicle stability control is engaging for no apparent reason while driving straight on a clear, clean, dry road. this has happened multiple times per month. both on highway and city street. (25mph-70mph) controlling the car can become hard to do. pretty loud grinding sound is heard when it is engaged. fear an accident may happen because the vehicle may pull due to the brakes engaging unexpectedly.
About a month ago i was driving on the highway at about 60mph and all of a sudden my vehicle began to jerk erraticly, became hard to control steering and braking, seemed to be braking on its on, it made a very loud grinding noise and some sort of alarm starting beeping and my vsc lights and traction control lught starting flashing. this lasted about 3 minutes and continues to happen sporadically every 2 to 3 days. there is no cause and no rhythm or reason for this to happen. i am always on a seemingly flat smooth surface moving straight ahead at a moderately high rate of speed between 50 and 70mph..
Takata recall. vehicle stability control system my 2002 sequoia began beeping, making a loud grinding noise and the traction light came on. i had little to no control of the vehicle.i am scared because it have happen on the freeway going 60-65ph. i literly do not have any control of my car everytime this happens.
I purchased my sequoia in 2003 and the trac off/vsc trac lights started turning on a few months after purchase. i have told the dealer every time i bring the car for service and have always been told that they cannot find a problem. once i turn off car the lights go off. well, on july 2015 while traveling on a windy road at 35 mph, we heard an warning alarm sound for the first time and the steering locked for about two seconds and the car felt like we had a flat tire or dragging something underneath. after about 10 seconds the car resumed back to normal as if nothing had happened. about two weeks later, i was backing out of a parking stall and it did the exact thing, including steering wheel locking. i thought i had raned over something, but the car went back to normal. now every two weeks after i get on the freeway this seems to happen, one time it sounded like my engine fell off. sometimes is worse than others and it doesn't matter if i'm going 25 or 65 mph. a few months ago i was traveling at 65 and the alarm came on, the grinding and dragging noise and my car started slowing down and swirved to the right. i just barely missed a motorcyclist. lucky no one was behind me or i would have been rear ended. i purchased toyota for their safety and quality reputation. i take good care of my car and safety of my family is my priority. as i stated before, i have been complaining about this issue to my toyota dealer for years and they tell me there is no problem with my car. now my problem is much bigger than just a light turning on. this should be a major concern and we should not wait for a loss of life to happen. any car that loses power in the middle of a freeway without warning should be of grave concern to all. i love my car but cannot afford to trade it in.
Complaint - electronic stability control, steering, vehicle speed control while driving my 2002 toyota sequoia while turning on city street & highway i encountered two significant safety issues the traction control system comes on while driving at various speeds, the vsc and traction warning lights abs & engine lights are illuminated as the vehicle pulled to the left/right. when the issue occurred, the vehicle makes a grinding sound and pulls very hard to the left/right. the vehicle loses acceleration and feels like the anti-lock braking mechanism is being engaged. the jerking pull resulted in crossing multiple lanes of the highway before control of the vehicle was regained. this is going to cause deaths known issues with other sequoias. *tr
When driving 70 mph on the interstate, the vehicle periodically yanks hard to the right, it sounds like i have a flat tire, front right tire feels and sounds like it stopped turning. car slows, vsc system idiot lights flash and beep. after i have successfully though unintentionally run another car off the road it returns to normal. the idiot lights stay on until the car is turned off. has been taken to mechanics numerous times in last few weeks, cannot find a problem. but keeps happening. mechanic is aware of 2003 and newer recall for the same reason, tried recalibrating yaw sensor successfully. 3 days later it happened again mechanics says the sensor may be periodically malfunctioning, over correcting for a nonexistent problem. it has happened going 30 mph once, as well as today the lights and beeping went off at a dead stop in my driveway. went straight to mechanics, turned off car to go inside, nothing found when he pulled it in
While driving my 2002 toyota sequoia, i encountered two significant safety issues that were recalled as part of a prior nhsta campaign (10v-176). while my toyota is manufactured within the same window of a recall, my vin was not included. nhsta has opened an active investigation (pe16006) in response to other owners with the same issues. issue #1: traction control system on several occasions, the vehicle would not accelerate properly from a stopped position. the code based on the vcs warning light indicated an issue with the center position of the steering angle sensor (sas). the sensor was replaced and the ecu programming was updated to resolve the safety issue. issue #2: electronic stability control on multiple occasions, the vehicle lost control while driving due to an issue with a faulty yaw rate sensor. while driving at various speeds, the vsc and traction warning lights illuminated as the vehicle pulled to the right. when the issue occurred, the vehicle makes a grinding sound and pulls very hard to the right. the vehicle loses acceleration and feels like the anti-lock braking mechanism is being engaged. the jerking pull resulted in crossing multiple lanes of the highway before control of the vehicle was regained. the mechanic experienced the same issue, and had to pull over to regain composure after almost getting into an accident. the faulty yaw sensor was replaced to repair the defect. after experiencing the issues with the toyota sensors that almost caused an accident, i had the faulty sensors replaced. i have requested reimbursement from toyota but was denied. the repair was for the safety issues which are under recall for the same model year (april 2002 ' april 2003), as my vehicle is manufactured in may 2002. the repairs included the defective steering sensor and the yaw stability sensor required to safely drive the vehicle.
Vse/trac light and trac off light comes on, beeping sound. traveling at 70 mph or 65 mph vehicle veers left and steering becomes difficult. just this happened three times within 24 hours on interstate driving. this is the same problem discussed in a recall of the 2003 through 2005 models. many problems of the same nature are reported on internet forums for the 2000 t-model. this is very dangerous. it happens when the road conditions are dry and no hazardous conditions.
Power steering fluid was leaking.
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. while driving 60 mph, the lower ball joint detached from the knuckle lower control arm. as a result, the contact lost steering control and the brakes failed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lower ball joint failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v225000 (suspension). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 131,000. updated 09/28/16*lj the consumer stated the suspension and steering components were replaced at a cost of $1,000. updated 03/13/17.*jb
I have a 2002 sequoia and the dealership has been doing the repairs since i purchased it in 2003. i took in the recall for the ball joints and even before i received it i had an issue. when turning right, mostly in curves there is a loud grinding in the frontend and has been doing this since i purchased the car . they told me that here was not a problem but i am still having this problem and now the trac has to stabilize my car, this has happen while traveling no turns. the trac light is on and off constantly for whatever reason they can not explain it to me. this is getting dangerous for me i have spent money on this car lately but this is a very large repair and need to know what can be done to get this fixed i was also told that there is not an issue with my airbag as well that my car was not affected. i need help with this, this is my only transportation and this is getting dangerous.
The brakes of the car ,and we i drive i can't drive more than 80 miles pr hour because it checks.i fixed the brakes and the light stay on for ever now every time i have to remember to take the foot brake.
Identical problem as described by many others. vsc-trac and trac-off lights randomly illuminated on dry, level pavement when brakes were applied, causing a loud grinding noise (much louder than normal application of anti-lock brakes), and car pulled and would not stop no matter how hard the brake pedal was pressed. first couple times, brakes were applied to slow the vehicle in traffic, so the failure to fully stop wasn't noticed. this now happens consistently whenever i drive and does not matter how fast or slow i am going. these failures clearly put vehicles at risk of accidents, and it is difficult to understand why the 2003 sequoias were recalled for vsc issues, but not the 2002, when the parts being replaced fit both years. i have only had the vehicle for 2 years with 140,000 miles.
This has happened about 10 times when the skid light will come on and the vehicle will go left to right and the brakes do not stop the vehicle. then the vsc off & vsc trac off lights will come on. this has happened at speeds from 15 - 60 mph at times you loose control of the vehicle at the higher speeds for a few seconds. if this ever happens in heavy traffic it will cause an accident. vehicle has been taken to a toyota specialist mechanic and they are still replacing parts. i understand that toyota recalled all 2003 sequoia's for this problem. my wife now refuses to drive the vehicle until it is fixed properly.
The vehicle was being driven on a dry paved road. the vsc and traction warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel as the vehicle pulled hard to the right, nearly causing an accident. the steering wheel becomes difficult to steer, the vehicle loses power, and the brakes inadvertently engage, making a terrible grinding noise. the problem happens at least once, each time the vehicle is restarted. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v176000 (traction control system) for the 2003 toyota sequoia - this failure is most likely related. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. while driving 70 mph, the vsc track warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that there was a loud grinding noise under the vehicle. the contact also stated that the vehicle started grinding and shook when braking. the vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 81,069. updated 8/21/15*cn the consumer stated the alarm sounded, vsc and traction control lights illuminated. the vehicle veered to the right while driving in the left lane. updated 08/27/15*jb
This has occurred several times: grinding noise, car pulls to the right and vsc and trac lights come on indicating vsc and trac are disengaged. can drive ok after this occurs. however, when car is turned off and started again the warning lights go out and it's impossible to predict when it will occur again. there was a recall issued in 2010 for the 2003 model sequoia with this same issue, however this recall for some reason did not cover the 2002 which is having the same problem! please have toyota expand the recall to include other years as this is a common problem in sequoias!!! *tr..updated 10/26/16 *bf updated 10/16/217*cn
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. the contact stated that the track warning lamp illuminated upon making a turn and that the steering wheel was tight and vibrating. the contact mentioned that the suspension was unstable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was not able to replicate or diagnose the failure. in addition, the contact was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 14v312000 (air bags) and stated that the parts needed were not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the delay. the approximate failure mileage was not available.
After hearing a clunking noise while driving, i took the sequoia to the toyota repair center where they inspected it and told me that the entire frame underneath the car was rusted through and had actually cracked in half towards the front end of the vehicle making it dangerous to drive. they informed me that toyota had issued an extended warranty several months prior, but which had expired 1 month before i brought the vehicle in. upon calling toyota customer service, they told me that the extended warranty was only issued for sequoia's to receive an under-coating to prevent freeze rust during the colder months and that if they noticed the frame was already broken down, only then would they replace it. since i had already gotten an under-coating done by my mechanic prior to toyota sending us the notice, i did not bring our vehicle to toyota's repair center. for this reason, toyota said they could do nothing about our broken frame since we never came in for our under-coating. i cannot understand how my sequoia, at only 10 years old, can have such extensive damage if it was supposed to be properly created and installed in the first place. to have the frame completely rusted through and actually crack in half, all while my wife was using the car to drive my children to and from school, practice, etc., is especially disconcerting after hearing how dangerous it was to be driving it by the toyota mechanic. i believe that it is toyota's duty to fix this issue with my vehicle since it was their negligence that created this poorly constructed vehicle/frame and i am issuing this complaint in order to pursue toyota in this endeavor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into park. the contact diagnosed that the shift lever bracket and the steering column housing were fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a popping noise emitted from the front of the vehicle when turning in either direction. also, the contact mentioned that while driving approximately 30 mph, the front passenger side suspension failed. after inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front passenger side wheel was pointed in the opposite direction of the driver side wheel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front passenger side shaft that attached to the rack and pinion was loose and becmae detached. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Last month, while traveling home from summer vacation on flat ground, at approximately 60 mph, the vsc, trac lights came on in the dash. there was a terrible grinding noise from under the car and beeping inside the car. the car pulled hard to the right and decelerated abruptly in the middle of a busy highway. thank goodness i was able to pull into the turn lane and limp into a gas station. this occurred three more times over the next 500 miles until i got home. i took it to the dealer, they replaced the yaw sensor. only 3 days after that, it happened again. took it to the dealer, they replaced two brake sensors and a master cylinder. today, five days after that, it happened again. this time, thankfully at only 25 mph with no traffic. this is a very scary, dangerous problem that toyota should not be ignoring. it has been recalled in the 2003 model, and should be in the 2002 model as well! *tr
Driving on paved public road, dry road conditions in summertime at low speed,10-20 mph, the vsc and trac off warning lights on instrument panel light up with and audible bell type alarm at the same time the right front wheel makes a loud thump causing the vehicle to pull hard to the right and with very hard front end vibration. at which time there is no brake control, steering control or acceleration control for approximately 20 seconds that has caused a few near miss vehicle collisions with other vehicles or off the road towards an embankment. the sequoia was taken to a toyota dealership service center where the technician stated they can only clear the fault code in the vehicle's computer. since the fault code has been cleared, 5 more episodes of the same identical senerios with both wet and dry road conditions but not standing water on the roadway, and also a couple of times during speeds between 60-70 mph. this is an intermittent anomaly, but happens 3-4 days in a row between instances.
While traveling down the interstate at 65 mph on a flat, even surface under good weather conditions, the vehicle stability control unexpectedly engaged, the vsc trac and trac off lights illuminated. the vehicle's brakes engaged, the steering began to pull to the right, a grinding noise occurred, and the vehicle became very difficult to control. this is not the first time this has happened. the last time was approximately 3 weeks ago (also highway travel at 65+mph). before that, it had been a while. this seems to be a completely random occurrence. however, this poses a serious problem and with two small children, it is extremely concerning. based on what i've read, this is common in this model year vehicle. not sure why a recall has not been made. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. the contact stated that the frame on the rear of the vehicle was corroded. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. however, the contact stated that two weeks later, the tie rods fractured from the rear of the vehicle and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 165,000.
On interstate twice doing the posted speed 75mph i heard a grinding, vsc antilock brake lights come on, vehicle suddenly pulls to the right. luckily i gained control and avoided a major accident. have had brakes checked and now told its the sensor. very costly repairs. toyota should have a recall on this issue. could cause a deadly accident. *js
In the fast lane i-10 east mm 110 driver tire and spindle fell off and went under car skid across 4 lanes with my 3 kids 8-4- 7 weeks and wife.recall already been done happened on pass side 10k ago also supposedly replaced could have killed all of us went to toyota the first time and was told "we'll it has over 100k mi" does that mean after a toyota has 100k mi the front end will fall off and possible kill everyone, keep in mind recall was already done once i don't believe it .i have owned toyota's all my life my father has worked for them since 78' i have his 85 4runner with 360k on it and i am a mechanic myself and have turned dozens of people to toyota's this is not acceptable i will be getting a lawyer and buying a chevy on tuesday. *tr
I have a 2002 sequoia, a couple of weeks ago while driving at 35 mph my brakes locked. i took it immediately to my brake guy; he looked it over, put it on the machine, found nothing. i left thinking it might have been something on the road that i missed seeing, that set off the traction sensors. a week went by without incident before it happened again; this time at 40mph on a flat clean highway. the trac off, vsc trac & the slip indicator light came on while the front end shook violently and pulled hard to the right. i was unable to adjust the brake, as it felt locked and my steering column, while vibrating madly was near impossible to turn, it was like driving an old style truck without power steering. i went to another brake shop, they hooked it up to the machine, and again nothing showed up!! today, five days later, while driving home with my children on a major highway doing the posted 65mph it happened again. i was suddenly unable to maneuver my vehicle, the brakes locked, the steering locked, and my vehicle pulled to the right. i just held on and prayed as my car pulled off the road, thank heavens the ground was flat. i have only been that afraid for my family's safety once before, and that was in the middle of a tornado. toyota has a serious problem here! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 toyota sequoia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle began veering to the right abnormally. the contact also stated that the vehicle would exhibit an unusual grinding noise. the problem ceased after the vehicle was powered off however, the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was unable to diagnose the problem. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
Vehicle was traveling at 65pm all of a sudden the trac control light and vsc light came on, was unable to control the truck due to the steering wheel getting light. pulled over and stopped called toyota customer care they states we are own our own with that problem. *tr
Vsc track system activates unexpectedly under normal driving conditions producing a very loud grinding noise of the front brakes and for about 15-30 secs the brakes won't work. this problem causes the steering system to suddenly pull to the right side with a significant reduction of speed. extremely dangerous when it has happened on high traffic volume highways. reported this situation to toyota corp. and they replied that they don't have any campaign or recall for the condition described. toyota customer experience provided me with incident no. xxxxxx-xxx303 for my complaint report. it is worth to mention of the hundreds of sequoia owners complaining of this problem on social media websites for vehicle complaints and yet nothing has been done by toyota. *tr
Power steering started leaking and lost fluid in drive way. question: are there other complaints on record and is there a possible or pending recall for this safety issue. nothing noted on the toyota site. based on my internet review there seem to be lots of people with toyota power steering & leaks problems. will have to get this fixed this weekend at local shop but want to pursue and go after toyota is possible. will save parts as evidence. thanks ben c.
Driving on dry, straight highway when vsc light and trac light come on and beeping started. vehicle starting trying to engage 4wd i think...lots of grinding in the front end and steering shaking. went on for about 2 minutes then stopped. vehicle not easy to control when this happened. has happened multiple times since. taking to mechanic this week. not safe for wife and kids to be driving. *tr
During rush hour, a vehicle before me abruptly stopped. to avoid from hitting them i swerved to the left hitting a wall divider when the front left wheel caved in having me and my family swerve all the way to the right into another sound wall. what i tried to do was hit the brake before going head on into the wall but the gas pedal was stuck causing us to accelerate into the wall. luckily there were shrubs and bushes to help the car go into a slow as we slid across the wall. i dont know why the gas pedal decide to get stuck and accelerate us into the wall but im hearing from other sequoia owners that they have had the same problem with their pedals and that needs to be checked out as soon as possible. *tr
I was driving on a highway around 10:30pm, and all of a sudden i hear grinding noise and vsc/trac light goes on. reduced speed because i felt as though i may lose control of vehicle. vsc/trac light stays on, then goes off. less than 30 minutes later, i hear beeping noise and vsc/trac light comes back on. this same incident has happened a week ago, where i pulled over the side of the road thinking it was a flat because i felt like i was losing control then too, but no flat. trac control issue then too (hearing grinding noise). concerned because it seems i may lose control. *tr
My vehicle frame was replaced by toyota due to a recall. when i got the car back, i noticed a whining sound, but did not think much of it since the mechanic said it might take a month for the frame to settle. i returned one month later to have the whining sound checked and was told the power steering lines were rusted and needed replaced at the cost odf$ 750. toyota assured me that the sequoia should last a long time!!! i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. i wonder if the rusted power steering lines are part of the rusted frame recall. i have really loved my sequoia, but i do not want to pay for any more repairs!!!! please let me know if others(either the toyota truck frame or sequoia frame), have had a similar problem. *tr
My wife and i were on the way south i-405 from work to go to the church. i made exit at fairview, and then left on baker street. i felt the steering wheel was very heavy and uncontrollable. the car crashed. there was no other car involved. my breast and head are in pain right now. *tr
Traveling home at normal speed the vsc/trac lights came on and the vehicle began vibrating and making a grinding noise. after stopping on the side of the road, i turned the vehicle off and on to possibly reset the vsc/trac. it seemed to work briefly but it started to do it again. we attempted to take the vehicle to the store and the problem started again. we noted audible alerts and the vsc/trac lights illuminating, grinding from what seemed to be the passenger side front tire. he had to pull off to the side of the road; however, found it difficult to control the vehicle. the speed was estimated at 35-40 mph, dry conditions with no obvious road conditions or issues. this problem had been noted several time randomly over the past two years, but has seemingly been resolved by turning the vehicle off and back on. this was the first time that the issue has persisted, and the increased difficulty in steering. *tr
This vehicle has a rusted frame which toyota will replace. they will not replace without customer cost several parts affected by the frame replacement. this is thousands of dollars required by the customer that otherwise would not be required. i want toyota to pay for the frame and the other required parts. *tr
While traveling home at normal speed the vsc/trac lights came on and the vehicle began vibrating and making a grinding noise. after stopping on the side of the road, i called my husband and was told to turn the vehicle off and on to possibly reset the vsc/trac. it seemed to work briefly but it started to do it again. after making it home, my husband drove the vehicle initially without any issues. however, he attempted to take the vehicle to the store and the problem started again. he noted audible alerts and the vsc/trac lights illuminating, grinding from what seemed to be the passenger side front tire. he had to pull off to the side of the road; however, found it difficult to control the vehicle. the speed was estimated at 35-40 mph, dry conditions with no obvious road conditions or issues. smoke was observed coming from the passenger front of the vehicle. this problem had been noted several time randomly over the past two years, but has seemingly been resolved by turning the vehicle off and back on. this was the first time that the issue has persisted, and the increased difficulty in steering. *tr
Again, after picking the vehicle up from the toyota service department in which the skid control ecu and brake booster assembly was replaced, the vehicle repeated all alarms and malfunctions as before: slippery lamp illuminated, alarm sounded, vsc trac and trac off lamp lit while abs brakes engaged while driving on a slight decline at 45 mph. i returned the vehicle to toyota immediately! the technicians informed me on the following monday that the seal for the master cylinder was cracked after replacing the brake booster assy. surprisingly, it has happened again and i am taking it back to the service department tomorrow morning. there has to be a systemic problem as this problem is a known issue with this type of vehicle. it is disappointing that toyota would keep these vehicles on the road with know problems of the such. fortunately for me, there hasn't been any accidents. i fear for the safety myself and my coworker as we commute in the vehicle daily. more importantly, that of my wife and children when we drive the vehicle. *tr
While driving at 50 mph on a flat concrete paved road in dry conditions, the slippery wet lamp lit and the alarm sounded for approximately 10 seconds while the abs brakes engaged on. the lamp flashed until the brakes released and the vsc trac and trac off lamps illuminated and remained on after restarting the vehicle. this occurrence happened immediately after receiving the vehicle from the toyota service department in which the skid control ecu was replaced for $770.79. this is a repeated occurrence of the problems. i delivered the vehicle back to toyota to have it repaired. the technician informed me that the brake booster assembly would need to be replaced to resolve the problem. the maintenance cost $1,606.24 and they kept if for 5 days. *tr
During my evening commute while driving on i-20 west at 75 mph, the steering wheel tugged and the front brake engaged. immediately afterwards, the slippery wet lamp flashed and an alarm buzzer sounded for about 10 seconds. afterwards, the vsc trac and traf off lights illuminated and remained on. i drove to an orientation and while on the way home at 45 mph, all of the previously stated alarms and malfunctions occurred again and the brakes engaged with a loud noise. i stop for gas at my usual 1/4 tank level and while pulling away from the fuel station, all alarms and all malfunctions recurred for the third time within a 24 hour period. the abs engaged while driving at 10 mph. i called the toyota service department and coordinated to leave my vehicle in the night deposit box for maintenance the next morning. toyota kept the vehicle for two days and replaced the skid control ecu anticipating that the problem would be resolved. previously, i had the brake fluid flushed and replaced on 08/17/2012 as routine maintenance at 262,223 miles. the problem recurred within days. *tr
When i was about to leave the church parking lot, i started to feel the steering wheel was a little bit hard to turn. as i made 2 more turns, it seemed the steering wheel became harder to maneuver and it even got me to a near accident when i almost hit a car while my sequoia was trying to make a wide turn to the right. luckily i reached home from a mile and a half drive without having any accident. when i checked the truck underneath, i found out, there was a steering oil leak coming from the gear assembly near the boot. what made me more disappointed was that i found out there was an excessive rusting on the gear assembly and with most parts of the chassis assy as well. i think the rust has eaten the metal so much that it made a hole through the oil line in the gear assy. the rusting, i believe, was too much for a ten year old suv. *tr
