We have classified the 134 complaints from 2010 Toyota Camry about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Toyota camry 2010, was driven to dentist office parking lot. while parking the brake was pressed to bring it to a standstill. however, it suddenly accelerated and leaped forward and smashed against an immovable wall in front. all this while the wheel kept on spinning uncontrollably. front of car is badly mauled depicting the uncalled for momentum. glad that there was a wall as this aborted the fearsome craze. driver badly shaken with moderate injury. never exprienced this before.
On my morning commute i had to initiate a fast acceleration by depressing the accelerator pedal fully to gain speed and upon taking my foot off the pedal i noticed it remained depressed fully and continued to accelerate. this situation had happened a year prior in a similar case where i had put "the pedal to the metal" and the accelerator pedal stuck to the floor. slamming on the brakes allowed the accelerator to disengage and operate as normal. the instance today occurred on a city street while driving straight; max acceleration was engaged at around 5mph and my top speed reached 40mph before i was able to regain control of the accelerator pedal.
Ever since i have owned this car i've noticed the accelerator and brakes are extremely touch and impossible to accelerate smoothly from a stop. the brakes are also extremely touchy so it's hard to come to a smooth stop without jerking. i have never had a problem like this and after reading all the complaints about about the accelerator and brakes i'm very worried that my car will eventually cause an accident. i would like to know if the people who had accidents or near accidents had this problem before the car went out of control. when using speed control it will always blink and have to be turned off and on
I applied the brakes slowly as i was driving on the highway moving about 25 mph and instead of slowing down, the car accelerated--it jolted forward! i stepped on the brakes harder. this happened twice on one drive--i almost hit an 18 wheeler. is there something i should do? i'm not sure if it is safe to drive.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 toyota camry. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle was slow to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. in addition, while in first gear, the vehicle independently shifted into second and third gears and made an abnormal vibrating sound. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Twice while driving last week the car abruptly and on its own, accelerated to a very high rate of speed. the first time, i was able to slow it down. the second time i pumped on the brakes several times, without result. i kept pumping and it was very difficult to stop. several more attempts and i was able to stop the car. the engine revved over and over and it took quite a bit of effort to actually stop the car. the engine only stop revving up when i put the car in park which gave a huge jolt to the car. i was able to stop, but not easily. i had my young son in the car with me and it was incredibly scary. the engine only stopped revving when i put the car in park which caused a huge jolt of the car.

While attempting to park my vehicle on april 20, 2017, my car surged forward and did not slow down when brakes were applied. i hit another parked vehicle and did considerable damage to that vehicle as well as to the front end of my car. over $6,000 worth of damage was done to my car alone. on sept. 7, 2017, again while trying to park my car, i was advancing very slowly and pressing very lightly on the accelerator pedal when the car surged forward very quickly. i tried with great force to apply the brake so as not to hit any other vehicles near me. luckily, i was able to get the car to stop but was frightened to death. the accelerator pedal did not respond appropriately to the little pressure i applied when attempting to part the car in both instances.

I was stopped in line of a drive thru restaurant. the vehicles were not moving and i was waiting with my foot on the break. all of a sudden the engine surged and the car lurched forward hitting the car in front of me. i pushed as hard as possible on the break pedal but the car did not stop until it hit the car in front of me.
I'm not sure exactly when the problems with unexpected acceleration began with this car, but they are fairly recent. all occurred when the car was stopped or moving very slowly. i do not have very good recollections of the earliest of these occurrences, but i can remember the last three clearly. the first of these was in march 2015. i was driving in an area where the speed limit was 35 mph and had stopped for a traffic signal. i remember clearly that i had my foot solidly on the brake pedal; i had been making a special point of that as a result of the earlier occurrences. i felt the engine speed up, but the car did not move. the second occasion was on march 29th when i was driving in a residential area and had stopped at a four-way stop. i was waiting for a pedestrian (walking a dog) who was crossing the road on the opposite side from where i was stopped. i do not have a firm recollection of exactly where my right foot was positioned, but it certainly was not on the accelerator. suddenly the car accelerated, heading toward the pedestrian. i was able to avoid hitting her by making a sharp right turn into the cross street and then bringing the car to a stop. the third occasion was on april 5th. in attempting to park the car in a lot near a grocery store, i turned the car into an empty parking space. i was pressing the brake pedal gently to bring the car to a stop at the curb on a median strip that separated my parking area from a similar one on the other side of the median. the car was just a few feet from where it should have stopped when it suddenly accelerated, jumped over the curb, and crossed the median, striking an unoccupied car parked on the other side. i was able to stop my car only after the crash caused some minor damage to the front bumpers of both cars. *tr
I have been owned this vehicle for last 5 yrs. i have complained about the speed every time i go to the dealer for service. i have complained about the down hill speed. even if you put the cruise control on 45mil/hr still car gets speed up to 90 to 100 miles.on flat road car doesn't slow down even you do not push gas paddle. the dealer said it happens when you down the hill even if you use cruise control. i will take some body with me and video recording and post on line. i have been this problem since i bought the car. i have contacted toyota for this but no result. my wife scare to drive this car. please advise me how to resolve this issue or how to seek legal advise. i look forward to hearing back from you. *js

On sunday, may 18, 2014, i started my 2010 toyota camry and my check engine and vehicle stability control lights were on. i had no previous issues with the car. i called the local dealership on monday morning to make an appointment, the first one i could get was just over a week away. i questioned the dealership if my car was safe to drive and they said yes, as long as the vsc light wasn't blinking. my car was checked by the dealership on may 27. i was told my brake actuator had gone out and the repairs were around $2,400 before taxes. the check engine light was from a charcoal canister that needed to be replaced, another $500+. the parts had to be ordered and it was may 30 when my car was ready. when questioning the dealership about why my brake actuator had gone out, they assured me that it was nothing i had done and they said they've had problems with others going out. after searching online i found that other models by toyota have had recalls for the brake actuator. if the company is having problems with the same piece of equipment in other models, the recall should be expanded. mine was not included in the recall, but it was faulty and failed. after searching, i also found there have been various issues with the charcoal canister as well in various models by the company. perhaps research should be done on this issue also. my car is 4 years old and when i took it to the shop it had 54,259 miles. i called toyota and they reiterated that my vehicle was not included in any recalls; therefore, at this point toyota could do nothing about the repair. *tr

I entered a parking spot and was moving slowly toward parking lot's wall at the minimal speed just above zero (0) mph, suddenly car increased a speed in a second on its own and crashed into a parking lot wall - short distance & sudden and unexpected acceleration didn't allow time to press the brakes. car's whole front is damaged: hood, lights, windshield glass (broken by my head), radiator and bumper. also, after the crush smoke/steam was coming out of the car and the driver's door jamed. i sustained a head injury as a result that airbags didn't deploy and my body was projected into a windshield. *tr

On january 18, 2010 my wife and i bought a toyota camry, se model from arlington toyota, jacksonville, fl. a few months after we bought this vehicle, toyota company recalled this vehicle model due to the possibility that the accelerator gets jammed on the floor mat, which may cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally. we took our toyota camry to arlington toyota on july 8, 2010 to resolve the recall problem. we have been driving this vehicle and had been running fine until an accident happened. on june 27, 2012, about 7:00 p.m., my wife and i went to tire plus car care, just west of hodges blvd on atlantic blvd and about a mile from where we live. my wife and i were approaching a parking space in front of the tire plus car care. as she was slowly parking, an unintended acceleration occurred at the speed of about 40 ? 50 miles an hour hitting the curb, the tree and irrigation pipe on the mound of landscape in front of tire plus car care. at home, after we left our vehicle to tire plus to assess the damages on my car, i discussed the accident scenario with my wife. i asked her if she could have possibly hit the accelerator while parking and she firmly said no. her reaction to the sudden acceleration, being so close to the parking curb, was to stop the car and therefore she would have just hit the brake firmly as her right foot was already on the brake while attempting to park. the toyota vehicle recall that might have been turned-in to resolve the accelerator getting stuck on the floor-mat may still have problem of unintended acceleration. my wife and i would like to share and escalate our experience so we could hopefully warn other owners and help prevent possible serious accident that may occur to consumers by a recalled vehicle that unintentionally accelerate. *tr

On friday, 25 march, 2011 at about 4 pm, my wife experienced a sudden deceleration event on our 2010 toyota camry. she made a right turn & in about a half mile, the camry suddenly slowed to less than 10 mph from about 40 mph. she pulled into the first parking lot to the right and shut off the camry. she said no matter how much she pressed on the accelerator, the car was not responding to the accelerator. she said the check engine and the stability control lights were on. she tried restarting the car and drove a little in the parking lot, the 2 dash lights were on, but it was driving ok. she drove the car slowly approximately 5 more miles to our home. i arrived soon & i checked the codes with my diagnostic tool, and the ecu was showing an active p0121 (throttle/pedal position sensor a, circuit range performance). so we drove the car slowly to atlanta toyota, 2345 pleasant hill road, duluth, ga 30096. during the drive to the dealership, the dash lights went off. i reported the code p0121 to the service rep, and the driving symptoms. the next day (saturday, 26 march 2011) atlanta toyota called me reporting that there were no codes in the ecu. i repeated the code that i had read. the rep stated they would check again. again atlanta toyota called me, stating no codes found, and they had test driven the car and could not replicate the problem. they did replace the accelerator pedal assembly. on the drive home from the dealership i noticed that the clock time had changed about 30 minutes, and all the radio presets were gone, as if the battery had been disconnected.i inquired and the dealership rep said the battery had not been touched.my concern is this toyota may have reprogrammed my car due to the sudden deceleration issue, (hence the clock & radio changes), and they are not being forthcoming regarding repairs. all they will say is, there were no codes.

2010 toyota camry bought 2 months before recall news / 5,000 miles / had recall work done at a toyota dealership on march 4, 2010 / on july 25, 2010 while in line at drive-through, i had my foot on the brake waiting my turn in line. suddenly, the engine began to rev, even though i didn't have my foot on the accelerator but did have my foot on the brake. the back tires began spinning, and although i was mashing down on the brakes as hard as i could, the vehicle moved forward (producing skid marks) and hit the truck in front of me. my camry pushed into the truck's trailer hitch, bending the rebar in the front of my car , which pushed up the radiator, etc. there was a witness who was standing next to the drive-in window because the restaurant had messed up his order. he reported to the officer that came to the scene that he heard the camry's engine start revving, and when he looked to see why, he could see that i was trying to get the car to stop. obviously, the toyota camry recall work is not effective. my granddaughter (who was in the car) and i could have been killed if this had happened at higher speed. *tr
