We have classified the 115 complaints from 2009 Toyota Camry about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
The dashboard has become very sticky and is melting. other interior parts are becoming tacky to the touch also. the glossy film on the dash makes it very difficult to see when the sun is reflecting off of it and creates a danger of wrecking. *tr
Dashboard is sticky and terrible glare while driving. reported it to the dealership in july . *tr
The dashboard is melting and sticky. when hot gets worse and reflects light into your eyes making it hard to drive. *tr
Paint is fading in areas, some areas looks like there is no paint color left at all. headlamps have had to be restored twice in less than 4 years. dashboard is sticky, small pieces/chunks are coming off, at times the sun shade sticks to the dashboard. *tr
My dashboard has become soft and had defects. i have been advised this is a problem with the 2009 camry. *tr
Dash board has melted. this needs to be a recall. i went to toyota of stuart fl and they said they would pay for the part but i have to pay for the labor. the labor is $400.00 who can afford that. i think they need to replace it for free. when im driving my finger nails end up getting stuck in the dash. you cant open or stretch you fingers when they are on the wheel. then you are trying to get the sticky dash board off your fingers and out from under your nails. it distracts you when you should have your eyes on the road. *js
The car was purchased new in 2008. i lived in ga from 2008-2012 and moved to tx in 2012. i did not experience dash issues while living in ga. i first noticed my dashboard was "sticky" when trying to remove a parking voucher from the dash area. the voucher was stuck to the dash and other areas of the dash were sticky to the touch. i tried removing pieces of the voucher and noticed the "stickiness" of the dashboard was coming off onto my hands. the stickiness has worsened to the point that whenever the dash is touched the sticky residue is transferred onto hands and fingerprints are left behind. the dashboard seems to be melting and touching the surface creates "gouges" in the dash. the area where the voucher was placed and removed is worn and has lost its texture. the increased stickiness makes the dash shiny and a glare is present when driving. the sticky/melting dash is a result of dash material defects which should be replaced by toyota free of charge. *tr
This is complaint about the dashboard covering on my 2009 toyota camry. if i need to file this complaint on a different website, please let me know. from what i can tell almost everyone who has a late model lexus or camry is having this problem. the dash covering begins to melt and becomes very sticky. the covering starts to come off if you try to clean it and then a very shiny surface appears and reflects off of the windshield making it very hard to see unless you put something over the dash to stop the reflection. this seems to be affecting every camry for several model years and very obviously is a defect. i have heard toyota will give up to a 50% discount so they acknowledge the problem, but until there is a recall it costs the consumer 300 dollars. this seems unfair to me. *tr
Dashboard is melting and sticky to touch. when driving in the sun, the windshield is hard to see from the glaring of the melting dash board and limited visibility of the road. *tr
Sticky dashboard provides glare. this causes distraction and glare. because of stickiness, i can't mount my gps and that forces me to keep looking down and not pay attention to road. i had many close calls and toyota would not fix this issue. i never have this problem in my 2004 camry. it seems this is a manufacturing issue. *tr
The dashboard of my toyota camry seems to be melting. i live in south fl and have lived here for years. i have owned many cars here and the weather and parking conditions have not changed. my car has very few miles on it, under 30k. the issue with my dashboard makes it hard to see and is causing a serious reflection issue. i cant imagine that this is not a product issue. no car i have ever seen has experienced this issue in all my years in fl. *tr
I live in louisiana and it's very humid and hot. last year my dashboard attracted much dust and dirt. when i among others tried cleaning it, nothing would actually remove or clean the surface. it is very sticky and it looks unsightly and it's very embarrassing. each time i had my car detailed, it was difficult to accept from the detailer as to why my dash was never clean and the products they used didn't cause the surface texture. up until i began hearing complaints from nissan owners regarding this problem, i realized i had the same problem but with my toyota camry. please do something about this problem, i love my camry and don't want to part with it. *tr
The dash is very soft and cracking. it is very shining and gives off a glare which makes it difficult to see. no commercial products have been used on it. the dealer in bradenton fl says they don't know what is wrong with it and i could replace it for about 2200.00 dollars as it is not under warranty. while searching the web for a solution i came across many others who have this problem. my husbands 2006 tacoma does not have this issue, in addition, the newer models all redesigned dashes. toyota needs to stand behind their product and replace the dash. it takes away from the resale value. *tr
The vinyl dashboard surface is sticky and, in areas close to the windshield, the surface has melted to a shiny, glary look. i cannot wipe it with a cloth because it sticks to the surface. pressing lightly the surface with my fingernail leaves a deep permanent mark as the surface has no elasticity. even light impact, such as from normal use of a sun reflective windshield shade, leaves marks on the surface. the edges of the dashboard are chipping easily. *tr
Dashboard is melting. *js
The dash is melting and continues to melt.. toyota refuses to replace it. dealer lipton toyota advises that toyota will only pay 50% of the $1500 it would cost to have it replaced. *js
Dashboard is melting when in sunlight or heat. it also reflects on the windshield making driving in daylight dangerous. *js
My dashboard had started to become glary and it bothers me when i drive against the sun's reflection which is very shiny and when i tried to touch the dashboard, my hand had stuck to it and i then realized that it is melting. i checked with the dealership and they said that toyota has no extended warranty or recall yet as of this time. i learned that there's already thousands of camry owners have the same melting dashboard issue. please have toyota explain and take responsibility of their defective product. *tr
The car dash board is melting away. it gets very sticky and if barely touched chips away in chunks. when the sun hits the dash it makes a glare that has many times almost caused me to wreck the car because i could not see.it smells weird. *tr
I too have the sticky dashboard issue with my camry. i try to clean it but it just collects more stuff. it is super sticky and causes an extreme glare. i contacted toyota and they said i am responsible for this. i have a few friends who have the same problem. i like my camry but due to this issue i am pretty positive i will look elsewhere for my next vehicle. *tr
Car parked in sun, dashboard material getting very sticky/gooey. if touched, it gets damaged. it shows a very shiny appearance when hot ( like if you used a tire shine on it), on sunny days it creates a lot of glare on the windshield affecting visibility. dash cannot be wiped with anything because it is very sticky and gooey. i can accept dashboard damage on a 10year plus car, but not on a 4 year old car.this is clearly a material defect and it prompts for a recall. specially because of the glare on the front windshield the dash creates when it is very hot. lots of people complaining of this in many internet forums. hopefully they will fill out a complain to get this matter resolved by toyota. *tr
The dash board is melting and very sticky to the touch. it also is very soft and easily knicked by touch removing a piece of the dash. you can not clean the dash because the cloth will stick leaving lint behind. i have never used any cleaner of any kind to clean the dash. i have always used a dry cloth for cleaning. *tr
The dashboard is really sticky and has gather debris from my sunshade. there are also some cracks forming. i went to the dealership where i bought it from and was told the same thing. that it's out of warranty (since it's 5 years old and 42k miles) and i can't really do anything about it. if i wanted them to look at it, i would have to pay $115 for a diagnostic test. the guy who helped me even looked for any recalls but found none. so now i just have to deal with it. i can see it becoming a really big safety issue because it reflects onto the window area of the driver's seat.? some people's dashboards are worse than mine because of the sun. i feel like a couple years down the road, i will be unable to drive because it is so reflective during the daylight. this has been a very common problem, but toyota has done nothing to fix it. *tr
The dashboard is melting which causes glare. it makes it difficult to see while driving. *tr
My 2009 toyota camry's dashboard has melted. it has become a sticky, shiny mess. i tried to put reflective shades in the windshield to help slow the disintegration. upon removing it to drive the car one afternoon shortly after i started using it, part of the vinyl was melted to the shield and ripped off the dashboard leaving the orange foam showing. the safety hazard comes from the shiny "puddles" of melted dash. they are incredibly reflective and can be blinding in sunlight. the glare is distracting while driving. i cannot lay anything on the dash to reduce the glare, because the vinyl will adhere to it and peel away like it did with the sun shield. while it has not yet caused an accident for me, i can see where it may have for others. as the cars age further, more of the dash will become melted. eventually, tens of thousands of people are going to be on the road with the equivalent of a spotlight blinding them when the sun is shining. hopefully, a safety solution will be had before then. another problem this vehicle has had since i bought it new, the windshield does not have good clarity when driving in the rain. i have cleaned it so many ways and replaced the wiper arms, but it has a smear, or film, that makes it highly difficult to see through in wet conditions. *tr
The dashboard is starting to melt. it is causing a glare on the windshield due to the dash melting and becoming shinny. the dashboard is becoming so soft that you can leave finger prints or indents in it. i called the dealership (cramer toyota in venice fl) they told me that the warranty was only good for three years for the dash, recommended a dash cover. they didn't seem to acknowledge the problem but i have done some research and have seen more and more complaints about the 2007-2009 camry models across the country melting. *tr

The dash board is very sticky and went the sunlights hit in directly it reflects the sun into my eyes this occurs every day. i live in puerto rico and this is my travel car every day when the sun is always shining. this make me cause to put a tinted glass paper to reduce the sunlight reflection frontal the dashboard but it continue to reflects the sun light. *tr
The dash and steering wheel are melting where they are tacky. *tr
The dashboard in the car is melting. the melting is very sticky and shiny. this causes a glare on the dashboard which is very bad in the louisiana sun, especially while driving into the sun, which i do every day on the way to and on the way back from work. this glare has almost caused me to get into several wrecks because it's hard to see. i have very sensitive eyes and i do wear sunglasses, but the glare is still very bright. there should be a recall on this issue as i see it's not an isolated issue and i would hate to get into a wreck because of it and possibly have someone or myself hurt or killed. *tr
I cant give a definitve date when i noticed but i did notice it seemed to appear as if i had put a coat of conditioner on it, i assumed it was just a matter of the heat causing excess conditioner to leach out. i attempted to wipe it off and realized it was sticky and it was near the warranty expiration time. one cold moring i got in the car and realized no normal dashboard should look like that and pressed it with my fingernail and realized it was soft. i take my car in on fairly regular basis to a toyota dealer. which is why i believe the service technicians saw the pattern of change and choose not to document it or say anything as it may involve a problem that would not involve profit for toyota or the dealership. my last trip was for a defect on the visor and i mentioned it to the service agent who choose not to make any comment which i noted as odd ( a typical action when management has instruced employees not to comment on a known problem). a month or so later i received a notice in the mail that they woul take care of the problem with a complimentary fix to the problem. the letter i received appears to be a stalling tactic to get customers to wait, not fix the problem and or seek reimbursement utill it's too late for redress. on my last visit i insisted they make note of the problem due to dangerous glare being reflected off the dashboard onto the windshield. i stated it was a grave safety issue. the letter stated they needed to acquire enouh parts to fix the cars and do no contact the dealer to wait for a notice to bring your car in. if i had an accident it would not take over six months to acquire the parts if i or the insurance company was paying for it. believe me if ceo's of toyota or there loved ones were driving with this problem they would immediately fix the problem, they probably have and kept it off the record.
I have a toyota camry 2009. my car went through the recall services, toyota had for the acceleration problems through one of their dealers. however, on 02/08/2013, i was involved in an accident, wherein i felt this problem myself. on a busy road i may have been driving between 35-40 mph, when all of a sudden, when i applied brakes, my car wouldn't stop but accelerated to maybe double the speed and hit the car in front of me. it appeared as if there are no brakes in the car.the impact was so severe, that i am still nervous and shaken up with the incident. the person driving the car i hit, thought i was speeding. but it definitely was the acceleration problem. this problem has not yet resolved and could lead to many more accidents. i have reported this problem to toyota dealership and on their suggestion to the toyota customer experience team. i was extremely lucky, that there were no physical injuries in the accident, but it could have been fatal. *tr
2009 toyota camry. consumer writes in regards to problems with vehicle roof. *smd the consumer stated she heard a noise as she was driving. the dealer informed the consumer, the roof had disconnected from the frame of the vehicle.
Approximately january 2013 the dashboard in my camry began to get extremely sticky. i went to the dealer in march or april 2014 and they told me they could not do anything about it, but they knew about it. *tr
The "dash panels" of my car is melting and it is all sticky, due to the high temperatures, which is a danger because it can cause a fire in the electrical parts that are under it. i need your immediate intervention, so that the toyota takes charge of changing this piece for free as it is a manufacturing defect
Dashboard all of a sudden became sticky and shiny. as i was cleaning the windshield one day, the paper started to stick to the dashboard and i still can't remove it. i tried with several products to neutralize the dashboard, without success. i brought the car to the dealership where i purchased the vehicle and asked them for their advise. they told me that they never observed anything like that and only could offer to replace the dashboard for approximately $1500. the sheen on the dash also creates a glare on sunny days, which create a safety hazard. i personally think its a product defect and toyota is avoiding a recall. i am 67 years old, and have owned many vehicles in my lifetime. this is a first. it really needs to be investigated. sincerely, very disappointed *js
My dashboard is peeling and melting. when i drive my car, the sun reflects on my shiny melted dashboard and causes a glare on my windshield. the glare makes it hard to see through the windshield and makes it hard to drive on certain hours of the day. *tr
I have a toyota camry se, and my dashboard is sticky and blinding. it has melted a lot. it is so shiny seeing becomes nearly impossible because of the glare, and is now a safety concern. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that during warmer weather, the dashboard began to melt. in addition, the dashboard reflects light like a mirror to the drivers eyes. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was contacted and advised him that there were no recalls for the component. the failure mileage was approximately 31,000. the current mileage was approximately 31,650. updated 3/14/13 *cn
Dashbord melting can you replace it. *tr
On 10/19/2012, the windshield molding on the upper driver side was separating from the glass and was cracking in other areas. the molding was inspected by local toyota dealerships and they questioned the installation of the windshield. it was explained the car has one owner and the windshield had not been damaged or replaced. i was told i could have it repaired for $400 or come back when i experience leaking. i was not satisfied with either answer especially since the toyota plant, located in kentucky, incorrectly installed the windshield and now i am being told i have to pay for the botched installation. after researching recent tsbs, i found the 09-12 tacoma's were experiencing the same issues i have on my car. the tsb 0062-12 states the incorrect installation of the windshield/windshield molding was causing wind noise and the remedy was to replace the windshield/windshield molding. although the tsb specifies wind noise as a minor nuisance, the defect has the potential to affect the integrity of the windshield as well as other electrical components due to the faulty molding. i am requesting the tsb be expanded to cover camrys exhibiting the same symptoms and make dealers responsible for correcting the defect. *tr
My 2009 toyota camry dashboard is also sticky with a hi gloss shine. i did not do any thing about it or say anything about it to the dealer because i don't drive the car much. i bought it brand new and i have only 2100 miles on it. i am really concern about it now because i am driving it more often . the sun is causes a bad reflection / glare on the window which , i can barely see through the windshield. i found that other owners are experiencing the same issue. this is a hazard and there should be a recall before any additional accident occur. *tr
My 2009 camry dashboard is melting. the leather console between seats has cracked.the electrical system keeps shorting out. all cigarette lighters/charger locations have shorted out including the aux. a week after buying my car the safety feature to lock place mat in place broke. nearly causing a car wreck as the place mat lodged in between the gas and brake. the radio, location where speedometer, clock, and service lights locations are fogged up and getting worse daily. when i took my car to the dealership about the dashboard i was told,"it was my fault. probably caused by a cleaning product." which i knew was entirely not true. cigarette lighter covers have dry rot and broken, plastic/leather has dry rot under all 4 windows leaving scratch looking marks, dry rot paint by stick shift is peeling. headlights fog up easily with water in them. i was in a car wreck a couple of years ago.when i was going about 10 mph and a vehicle ran the red light hitting the right side of vehicles front area. they were going at least 45 mph. no airbag deployed. underneath front of car is a plastic piece that keeps falling down. some days i am unable to take car out of park unless i turn the wheel,"hard". i have never received anything via mail about any recalls on my vehicle. i still live at the same address! took car to dealer again about front passenger window and driver side window not being able to roll down or up windows. i had to pay quite a bit of money to have fixed. passenger window switch is broken and still is just like drivers side was. was told" it was most likely because someone tried to break into my car." which i knew was not the case. i am very disgusted and considering filing a lawsuit against toyota. i bought a lemon car! i keep my oil changes up to date, fluids, filters, etc.i have never felt so disappointed in a vehicle purchase in my life. i'd like a full refund. *tr
The dashboard constantly reflects back and seriously blinds eyesight & vision, that actually may cause serious accidents and death. i am humbly giving this "real & actual warning information" to have toyota redesign the dashboard and recall all toyotas and fix this real dashboard problems. *tr
My dashboard starting getting sticky about two years ago. it is getting worse and everything sticks to it making marks all over the dash. it also makes my car have an unusual odor. this is very frustrating because in general the car is in good condition but this really makes it look awful.. *tr
I purchased the car in october 2011 and approximately 6 -9m months later noticed the dashboard was melting. took the car back to the dealership who stated it was out of warranty and i would be responsible for replacing it at a cost of approximately $3,000. i then contacted toyota who stated that they were not able to help as there was not a recall. the problem has continued, the dashboard is soft to the touch and disintegrates when touched has deep gouges from my fingernails touching it and shows scrape marks from the dashboard protector that i use every day. *tr
Interior dash board melting. *tr
I bought my can new and after three years, the dashboard of my toyota camry 2009 began to melt and sticks or glue to touch. i have tried everything humanly possible but nothing will work. i really want my dashboard replaced. *tr
