I own a 2009 camry le. the material that covers the dashboard is sticky and peeling off. this has been happening since 2018. when the sun shines the light reflects and is very distracting while driving. toyota issued a recall for this problem. i called them today (1/27/20) but they say it is now expired. i am wondering how this can be addressed for my vehicle since i never got the original paperwork because i moved. please advise. thanks in advance, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Recently 'august 2019' i purchased a 2009 toyota camry on a 'cloudy day' for my son to drive to n.c. for college. he came home for an overnight visit and i noticed his dash was very shiny and had a horrible glare. the glare was so bad i would not allow him to drive the car due to this impairing his ability to see. i noticed on toyota's website there is a recall on the dash but read lots of complaints that toyota was not replacing them in a timely fashion and for only so many years. as you can see from the photo this is for sure a visibility hazard and my son or others could be killed due to inability to see.
Front of dashboard is very sticky, specially when it gets hot outside. if i place my finger on dashboard some of the rubber comes off or even leaves finger prints.
My dashboard is melting and causes a constant glare that obstructs my view while driving. when i told toyota about this they said it was out of warranty. i have never been contacted by toyota regarding this is a possibility of happening. sunshades did not prevent the melting as it gets worse yearly and i use shades daily. toyota needs to be responsible for fixing because this puts my life as well as others in danger due to the major glare.
Drivers side sun visor will not stay up. it has gradually gotten worse to the point it won't stay in up position or fully toward the windshield either. it is really a visibility issue but didn't seem to meet that criteria. i am sure that their was a recall for this some years back, but it is not listed on the nhtsa or toyota websites.
Dashboard is starting to melt, crack, chip and become gooey. i have been to the dealership 3 times and on the phone with toyota customer service 2 times, and they both keep redirecting me to each other. i have expressed concerns about the integrity of the airbags since the dashboard is melting. toyota is aware of the situation and is refusing to assist in any way. apparently, there was a recall that has since expired, however i was never notified. this causes great concern for myself and others since this is a known factory defect that toyota is not addressing with ease or honesty. a melting dashboard is a great safety concern that could have grave consequences.
Toyota is aware that they manufactured this car and others with a defective dashboard. they have already been sued for this. the melted dashboard causes a glare in the window making driving unsafe and people have been in accidents. plus, the goey dashboard may cause the airbags to fail. rather than recalling the defective cars and replacing the dashboards on all these cars, toyota chose to offer a 10 year warranty. first of all, i never received notification of this warranty, but it would not have made any difference if i would have, because the problem occurred in my car 2 months after the 10 year warranty expired. car brakes wear out, tires need replacing, dash boards are not suppose to melt! i imagine toyota expects the dashboards to melt in most cars after 10 years and this is why they offered a 10 year warranty. they can now profit from their own manufacturers defect.
The dashboard is melting and sticky and has a glare the comes off of it.
I have called my local toyota dealer to report a sticky, melting dashboard. i called several months ago to report this but it was stated that no recalls were out on this. i saw on the news last week about this same issue and i called again on 8/5/2019 and was told again that no recalls were out. i use a sun guard for my windshield but that only helps minimally. my dashboard has been melting for about 3 months and i have no solutions. how do i proceed to do something about this?
My camry dashboard melted such that it is now reflective like a mirror or glass onto my front window. the glare on the front window is unsafe for clear viewing. this happened after the warranty expired on may of 2018. but, a safety issue caused by a melting of the dashboard should not have a limit to it's necessary repair by toyota. i have videos of the danger, but your only accepting jpgs below.
Dashboard melt - dash when heated by sun or temperature -melts and turns into a glossy glue consistance which reflects on windshield and prohibits sight thru the glare - prevents driver sight and safety paper sticks to it and so does any flying bugs, trash, or other objects it comes in contact with. you cannot see on coming traffic or navigate turns safely.
Sun visors will not stay up causing hazardous view obstruction.
My 2009 toyota camry le caught on fire friday jan 4 2018. i have no idea how it caught on fire. the only visible warning lights iilluminated was the windshield wiper light. no other warning lights active prior to fire.the vehicle was in motion at the time of the fire and was on a major highway in portland oregon. when the first started fire we saw sparks from under the hood and smoking and the vehicle started slowing down. then the check engine lights etc started flashing on and off.
Sun visor flopping loose. will not stay up & is blocking my driving vision.there was a recall on it & toyota said it is not broken however, it was broken. now they said recall expired in 2015. & want $145 to fix it. the sunvisor is blinding my eye site when i drive.
On my vehicle, my dashboard has developed a sticky residur on the entire dashboard. it appears that the dashboard has began to melt. ive attempted to clean, etc with no positive results. this sticky residue has a substantial glare emitting off it that sometimes inpairs my visibility and often times creates a reflection on windshield hindering vision when ooerating vehicle. second note is every sense this has began and gotten worse my car interior now has a distinct smell. unsure what the smell is but it smells like an odor of a hot plastic material. my interior has been detailed rrc and the smell when not go away. i contacted toyota because there has been numerous lawsuits and recalls in the past. i was toyota will not fix because the recall had expired. if its creates unsafe driiving conditions, how can they put an expiration on the fix. the condition of dashboard i believe was created by a defective dashboard not made to withstand humidity or heat. toyota knows this is a problems, but refuses to help loyal toyota owners, like myself. i am very displeased with how they handled this. in the picture attached. the sun is overhead, so the reflection not bad but still visible. look at bottom of windshield and you will see the reflection.
Dash board melting. causes glare on windshield. and is very sticky
Driving on interstate 77 south, just north of boilvar, oh, 70 mph, heard loud explosion. thought it was a tire. checked to find it was my moon roof. it shattered to pieces. the hole was the size of a basketball, with remaining glass cracked to the point it crumbled to the touch. no other cars, trucks, or foreign objects were near me. the glass simply exploded. there was no overpass nearby, both sides of road were woods and i was in a rural area. i bought the car new and i'm the only owner. i will contact local toyota dealer and have it repaired as i use my car daily. date of incident 8/26/18, time about 8:40 a.m. no injuries, other than monetary. the interior slide cover, under moon roof was closed. moon roof was closed. no police report filed. i covered the area with plastic and duct tape while on the road. when i arrived home, i removed the distressed glass, swept the area, and will see toyota and glass repair facility tomorrow (monday 8/27/18).
Sudden cluster failure of dashboard while driving, possible short in abs control system causes loss of odometer and speedometer, jumping needle for engine temperature and tachomteter, loss of gear indicator light. both check abs and brake lights are illuminated. unplugging abs remedies engine, tachometer, and gear indicator. still have no odometer, speedometer, and warning lights for brake and abs permanently illuminated.
2009 camry hybrid melting dashboard. this is a safety issue as one can't see incoming traffic or pedestrians when driving into the sun. i have been in few close call incidents where i couldn't see pedestrians or traffic infront of me. please recall this problem with the melting/cracking dashboard.
The factory provided vehicle jack is of poor quality. it bent from the middle after the very first use. if not for the tire still on the axel, the car would've had lots of damage.
While driving in this 100 degree weather i turn on the a/c then all of a sudden my brake light and abs light comes on at the same time also my odometer and rpm needles stop working
Sticky, melting dashboard causes a glare when driving and makes it difficult to see while driving!
Very sticky dashboard that is shiny and blindning
Melting dash sticky shiny glare
Melting dash: i placed this under "air bags" because there is legitimate concern for their operation under the defective dash. also, the glare from the shininess of the dash is a concern. i purchased it new in may 2008. my daughter has been driving it. the problem came to my attention literally days after the 10-year "warranty extension". i talked to my dealer and directly to toyota and they would not resolve the defective dash. this is still a problem. it didn't go away after 10 years.
Oil consumption - my 2009 camry is using a lot of oil. had the oil consumption test done and they said it was fine. 2 weeks later i'm already a quart low. at this rate there will be no oil left before the next oil change. toyota customer service said excessive consumption use is 1.5 quarts every 1200 miles that is crazy. they were no help at all. i saw online this has effected cars from 2007 to 2011. so if you own one in this year range you basically have to add oil every week or two.
On march 28,2018 van trow toyota took my car to do oil consumption on my car.i got my car back on march 30,2018.on april 2,2018.every time i crank my car in morning and after i get off work.smoke is coming out my tailpipe.i didn't have this before my car went to dealership.i also have recall on dashboard that have not being replace yet.iam upset about my car.also my hood was standing by itself before going to dealership.now my hood gotta hold it.iam very upset.i have called toyota corporated about.whats going on with my car
Dashboard is completely melting ,scraping off
Sticky dash 'notification' or lack thereof, i called toyota today to ask about this problem, since the car is 3 months out of the secondary warranty i'm screwed and stuck with a sticky, stinking (costly -$1600) mess. i've tried cleaning in with numerous products safe for the material to no avail, thinking it was something on it. i decided today to google and see if i could find a cleaner/resolution to my problem. i work long hours and honestly didn't think it could be a defective dash. the dash has even started to crack. i live in hot, humid alabama and picking dead flies etc from the sticky mess isn't an easy or enjoyable job. i think toyota should replace this dash immediately, this car is finally paid for and now this ... arghhh what a pain !
Bought my vehicle this year and noticed the dashboard melts and is so sticky. attempted to take it off but unable to.
Sun visor is broken -toyota will not fix it.they said it was expired in 2015 & they want $150 to fix it. is that true the recall expired in 2015? it broke 1 year ago.
Drivers side visor does not allow the driver to pull it all the way up or down impeding vision
Dash has become sticky and shiny. it causes an unsafe glare when driving into the sun.
I was travel on the belt around richmond (295) headed south at approx. 70 mph and the back window was slightly cracked open. there was an explosion like sound going off and then i noticed that there was a hole in my sun roof. this occurred on 19 oct 2017 @ 1800hrs. i looked for a rock or any other object that could have caused it and nothing was found.
While driving at various speeds the speedometer goes to 0 even though the car is still performing and accelerating. the abs and brake lights come on. it seems like this is a known issue and should be recalled and repaired by toyota.
Odo meter malfunction, abs light, brake light on. ac not working
The dashboard appears to be melting. it is sticky to the touch.
Stickness of dashboard,the shiny/reflective surface
Dashboard is sticky, gummy and peeling off. i found out there was a recall on this and they extended the warranty to august 30, 2018. i bought the car from a dealer in august 2017 with the problem existing but didn't know there was a recall. toyota informed me today that they sent a notice to owners in 2014 but i didn't own the car in 2014 so never received the notice. is there anyway to get this covered? it's gross. i can't find any way to fix it without tearing the dashboard out and replacing it myself and i'm not good at that. i can send you pictures of the nastiness. the form asks when this happened. i bought it with the problem and dealer said there was nothing they could do about it.
The dashboard is melting and has been for several years. i have never received any notice regarding this problem.
Water pump was making loud noise due to poor assembly line supplied from toyota vender for this specific model due to play in pully /shaft /bearing,finaly water pump stops working,if car is in motion, there is chance of getting hot and catching fire.this happened at 33807 miles on odometer.i also searched google lots of people reported issue with water pump ranging mileage between 33000 to 45000 on odometer for this 2009 toyota le 4 cyl 2.4l automatic engine of this specific model only
Fast wearing tires, under 22,000 miles and dealer says i need new tires.i fully expected closer to 40,000 miles as standard today. dealer says treads are "4/32 all around".
Sun visor on the drivers side will not stay snapped up, falls down inhibiting my ability to see safely while driving. i have to duck down to obtain a clear view of the road while driving.
Drivers side sun visor has almost completely fallen off. i have included pictures. this is becoming a safety issue as the visor now blocks my vision while driving. it will not fold up and out of the way. this has happened over 4 days.
Takata recall 1) the stickyness of the dashboard, and (2) the shiny/reflective surface the dashboard creates, as a safety hazard. my teenage daughter has had the sticky residue cause difficulty in decision making with reflection. we are very concerned with her safety!we purchased this car in march 2017 from a retired owner.

We have a 2009 camry le with only 53,000 miles on it. the dash is starting to melt and stick.
Motor oil is burning excessively i have to check the oil every weekend and the dealer says is normal, i think is not normal to keep adding oil when there is no leak. dashboard is practically melting it was reported back in may because in the summer time it gets very sticky the dealer says it will take months or a year before they could fix it. radio has a malfunction it was replaced back in 2014 because the screen turn black and not able to turn it on or off. in 2016 the radio is having problems again for the same reason and the dealer won't replace it anymore because the warranty is finished.
