Sticky/deteriorating dashboard. vehicle purchased brand new in 2009 from a toyota dealer. vehicle has never been serviced at a car wash. spray products designed to preserve vinyl have never been applied. noticed week of 9/1/2016 that the dashboard beneath the windshield is gummy. prior to this discovery, we had been fighting a strange deposit on the inside surface of the windshield. we believe it was off gassing of the chemically changing dashboard.
My passenger side visor just broke about a month ago. it's a 2009, but purchased in 2008. finally got my dashboard replaced last week alf asked about the visor. toyota says they won't fix it since its passed the warranty time. i don't understand why not since it's a known issue, and dangerous to drive with it down all the time. i've loved my camry, but to spend over $100 to fix the visor is steep.
My dashboard panel is melting in my car. the dashboard is completely sticky and everything that falls on it gets stuck and i cannot get it off the dashboard. i try to clean my car and cannot do anything to the dash. i try to wipe it down with water and a towel, but it just pulls the lint off a microfiber towel and it gets stuck. it is really irritating and i hope toyota fixes my problem and takes responsibility for its defects. my entire family drives toyota's and if they do not fix this issue, we will no longer have any ties with toyota.
I'm an owner of a toyota camry 2009 my name is [xxx] i have just learned today that there is a recall and i'm asking for help with the oil problem. i'm adding quarts of oil and before the maintenance date for an oil change i am being told there's no oil in your engine. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I am having an issue with the dashboard melting. the surface of the dashboard has become shiny and creates a glare on the windshield.
Oil consumption. i need to add oil every 1100 to 1250 milage.
Sticky dashboard. noticed 2 months ago that the whole dashboard is sticky/gummy. i have deposit on the inside surface of the windshield that is almost impossible to remove. could the two be connected.
My dashboard is melting and creating a glare making driving unsafe. it is hard to see out of the windshield because of this glare.
Sun visor has fallen off drivers side. passenger side is falling down.
I purchased my 2009 toyota camry 2.4l while stationed in germany, it was manufactured to us specifications and i brought it stateside with me. i ran my vin in the toyota database to find out if the air bag or "sticky" dash board recalls applied to my vehicle. my vin did not register in the toyota database. i called toyota and they ran my vin, they explained that my vehicle was not visible in their database. the went on to explain, i would have to contact toyota in japan or germany for recall information and they would not be able to repair any recalls on my vehicle in the us. does toyota not have an obligation to ensure my vehicle was manufactured properly and with quality materials to ensure its safe operation?
Front spring coils breaking - right front broke while driving and when i took it in they told me the left front was also broken! cost me 500.00 to fix both!
On wednesday, january 27,2016 i got out of my car, opened the trunk, took some things out, tried to close it, it bounced up. i found out the trunk lock pad would not lock, i was told to order a door lock actuator integrated with a latch. received it, put it on and it did the same thing. this could cause more damage to the car and injury to a person especially if it happens in route. put new part on and it wont lock. feel its defective and toyota should have to altar the situation.
My dashboard is very sticky and melting. the sticky dashboard has a glare in the windshield and is very dangerous. i could hardly see where i'm going when the sun is shining. the glare from the dashboard shines in my face and sometimes blinds me. please fix this issue.
The dashboard on the 2009 toyota camry is a danger for any owner. with the dashboard being sticky/melting, when light hits the dashboard it causes major blind spots that could cause major accidents. this is unacceptable for any automobile to be on the road when you could potentially run over people or hit other vehicles when the glare from the melting dashboard reflects off the windshield.
As i was pulling into my car space at work, my 2009 camry accelerated without warning and surged into the brick wall of a building.
I have been the sole owner of this camry. back in 2015 i took it to a dealership for service and brought up to the technician that the dashboard was sticky. at the time they said there was nothing i could do about it and replacing it would cost me a lot of money. now 4 years later i find out that there was a warranty enhancement that covered the dashboard. my dashboard is now so sticky that it is glistening. i tried to use a sun visor hoping it would slow the rate of melting but then my sun visor would stick to the dashboard. i place a hat on the dashboard once for 10 minutes and when i removed it there was black residue. finally, i have a child now and when he gets into the car he has put his hands on the dashboard and gotten the black debris and chemicals on his hands and i am now concerned for his health and safety. there was also a warranty enhancement with the oil consumption. my spouse changes my oil for me and over the last several years commented that i was surprisingly very low on oil. i am wondering why i have not received any notice from toyota for either of these issues even though they claim notices were sent out. i have opened a case with toyota #1911082336. they tell me that i am out of the window for repair and it would now have to be out of pocket which is very frustrating considering i notified them of the dashboard issue before.
11/01/2015 @ 10:05am on maryland route 29 north, route 40 exit. car speed around 30 mph - slowly exiting on ramp. suddenly, four distinct beeps were heard and car accelerated without warning. lost steering and control over speed - car zig/zagged. stepped on brake as hard as i could - car eventually came to a stop. road condition was slightly damp after light rain. luckily, no other car was around. taking the vehicle to trusted mechanic to have it evaluated for safety concerns.
A white smoke comes from the exhaust every time i start the car.
Steering wheel started vibrating on reaching the speed of 60 mph. it was more prominent while driving straight while it was not as much while negotiating the bends. however, no vibration was felt at slower speeds. i have got both front and rear rotors and break pads changed recently, all wheels have been balanced and alignment done. i wonder if the manufacturer would take care to identify the cause and recommend remedy.
Oil change done june 22,2015. went to local mechanic to check all fluids before drive to tampa. oil level very low. had oil added on august 22 ,2015. on october 27, 2015 i noticed a red light on left side of dashboard saying maint reqd.google says time for oil change. sticker from toyato says next oil change 95,330 miles, im only 94,100 or close. is there a recall. i contacted toyota customer service and was told that there was an oil problem, windshield wiper and sun visor problem, which i had not recognized the oil problem. i thought the dealership had just neglected to put the right amount of oil in doing the oil change. prior to problem i received possible recall notice for something else . campaign # id#15v577 reference # 878051. i will be calling toyota (autonation) in pinellas park about problem. the light comes on whenever i start up the engine and stays on for about 2 to 3 minutes while driving.
I own a 2009 toyota camry. in 2013 or 2014 toyota repaired the drivers side sun visor. now the passenger side sun visor is drooping, it hangs freely and will not remain in either the up or down position. toyota says they can't repair this since the car is more than five years old.
The vehicle was parked at my residence. there were 2 holes in the in the rear window;one was extra lrge and the other small. the rest was shattered, but still intact. the police investigated to see if there was foul play, but found none.they found rocks or or anything else in the car that may have caused the holes etc. the police report number is 152829-of. when i closed the door the whole thing caved in. the officers taped up the rear for me. thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
I made an era on the form just sent. the confirmation number (odi number is: 10744793. there were 2 holes in the rear window of my parked vehicle; 1 was extra large and the other one a little smaller. the other portion of the window was shattered but still in tact. the police officers investigated to see if there was foul play, but none was found. they found no rocks or any thing else in the car that may have caused the damage
The sun visor in driver side defect , loose and may block driver's vision
The sun visor will not stay up. it drops and hangs down blocking the driver's visibility while driving.
Sticky dashboard, melting dashboard that has made also moved some stickiness onto the windshield reducing visibility.
At intermittent times, most noticeably while braking or turning or both, warning light and sound activates. checked just recently, no oil on dipstick. suspect excessive oil consumption manufacturer defect on my year and model which is not being addressed by toyota.
The entire dashboard is sticky to the touch.
I didnt receive a notice on recall of dashboard. my dashboard is sticky and has cracked. clearly needs replacing. please respond so we can get this matter resolved. started few years ago.
First to fail was the speedo after the abs and brake light came on. no actual brake problem but the lack of speedometer is unsafe. abs unit essentially controls instrument cluster..not necessary or safe plus dealer repair part approx $1800.00.
Shiny/sticky/melting dashboard recall on toyota camry. my mother has been having this issue for three years. being that she has a language barrier she was not aware of a recall. toyota states they sent her two notices in 01/15 and 10/15, which she cannot recall receiving and wouldnt have understood if they were in english. now she drives around with this dashboard reflecting off her windshield at night and sometimes during the sunny days so much that its hard for her to see the road. this is a safety hazard, and i believe she can potentially get into an auto accident. toyota does not consider this a safety hazard or recall, but it should be. the warranty should remain open until all vehicles with this problem are fixed!! if my mother has an accident, toyota should be liable!!! toyota says the extension for this warranty ended just last month 07/18, but after the two notices in 2015 they never sent further notices.
I purchased a new 2009 toyota camry se, after owning ten toyota vehicles since 1978. i still own four today! i have never experienced anything like this issue in another car. in 2014-2015 (estimated) my entire dash board became sticky, as if i had poured oil on it. today it releases a thick sticky residue onto the front windshield when parked in the sun. this makes the dash impossible to wipe... as towels, sponges, even leaves, etc., get stuck to it (see pics). i can't drive my car without first wiping the inside of the windshield each time it is parked in the sun, or this residue makes it opaque (see pics...after wiping it). this situation is exacerbated when driving towards the sun (see pics) and is a safety issue!! i'm concerned how the deteriorated condition of my dash affects the deployment of the passenger airbag or if it still even operates correctly? on 8/16/19, i discovered that toyota extended its warranty to ten years from the original purchase date. mine was 7/29/09...putting me only two weeks out of their 10-year warranty coverage. toyota corporate and my dealership told me they could not offer any assistance in my case ("1 day or 1 mile over warranty and we won't help"). when challenged, toyota could not confirm letters were mailed to all affected owners, only that an effort was made to send letters to some owners in 2015. multiple models over several years are involved. i spent 8 hours on the phone appealing their decision, without success. a new dashboard costs $2600.00 (installed)!! i reported this issue here because it is a manufacturing/safety issue resulting from toyota's use of sub par materials...like defective windshield wipers...if you can't see out of your windshield at freeways speeds because of the glare from your dashboard, or the residue stuck on your windshield...you are at risk of an accident. please contact me if you have questions?
Stick dashboard that is deteriorating and creates glare that makes it difficult to focus on roadway. toyota did not notify me of recall and i missed the cutoff for warranty coverage. no takata airbag notice or any other recall issues have been sent to me from toyota
Excessive oil consumption recall: over the last year i noticed my oil consumption was drastically increasing. i started burning through oil and having to add a quart every 2 months and now monthly. in the past few months, a very large plume of white smoke would spew out of my tail pipes; not just a little but a large cloud of smoke. it has a very burnt smell to it too. the smoke dissipates after the car warms and as long as the car is warm, it will not smoke. it only smoke when the vehicle has been off for over 2-3 hours. i was told by a certified toyota mechanic that i need to replace the engine due to faulty internal parts. he stated it was the reason for such a high level of oil consumption. i discovered that toyota is currently recalling certain engine blocks due to oil consumption defects, however my vin number is not part of that recall as of now. according to toyota, my vin could eventually become part of the recall (oil consumption recall) but as of now, it is not. i don't understand how a major manufacturer will not stand by their product and repair my engine considering they are already recalling other engines with the exact same issues i am having with my camry. this was my first camry too. very disappointed with toyota.
2009 toyota camry. consumer stated engine did not turn off even after pushing the power off button. the car was parked in the garage over a period of time. consequently, carbon monoxide entered the consumer's home. she and her husband went to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. the consumer stated she did not know she had to hold the button, to completely turn the vehicle off. *ss.
Bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour; dodge truck w/trailer hitch stopped on a dime; i ran into back of truck; but then my car lunged forward on its own accord and i hit the truck a second time. i had my foot on the brake and it lunged! car is in the shop but i still have not found out what the cost of damage will be or the time frame for repairs. it has lunged before; but i have not been in an accident before this because of the sudden acceleration. *tr
The brake and abs light are on, the speedometer and rpm meter goes to 0 when i was driving at 40 mph. it also happened when i was stopped in park. the a/c also don't work. the fault is intermittent. *tr
The dashboard to my camry is very sticky. i live in the state of florida and the glare on the wind shield caused by the melting dashboard is so bad i have to lean to my right while driving in order to see better. this is definitely a safety issue and i need some information asap on getting this problem resolved. it's a shame that toyota does not correct this issue. how many accidents/deaths have to occur before something is done!?
The interior dashboard is melting
In spite of keeping sun shades up all the time the car is parked, my dashboard is increasingly sticky and melting. the shiny glare that has developed on the dashboard reflects in my eyes and makes it very difficult to drive safely.
Sticky dashboard. depreaciated value to try to seel. who would want it. feel stuck. frustrated. sticky dashboard causing glare on window that can cause an accident when it sunny out.feel cheated by toyota. i have bought toyotas for the last three cars. not again. i feel like i can't sell it or even trade it without taking a lost on the value and its their fault not mind. i feel taken, screwed and want something done.
My camry burns oil excessively. i took their oil consumption test three times and each time they told me i passed yet before 2500 miles i had little to no oil in my engine. my sister had the same problem yet on the 5th time they replaced her engine now they tell me my vehicle is out of the warranty standards
The dashboard has been progressively melting. it is sticky and reflects a glare in the windshield. *tr
Dashboard has begun to melt and is really sticky. it causes a glare on the windshield that is blinding!
Dash is melting with the az heat. looks terrrible.
2 year wait for a recalled dashboard. this is absurd. we are a family of 3 toyota's and this one is an embarrassment. surely, there is someone who can get this fix done. please call me, 772-924-5022.
Dashboard has melted and cracked, making a terrible glare on the windshield. i recently realized that many with this make/madel vehicle have had the same issue
Excessive engine oil consumption (extremely bad).
This incident happened over time and was noticed approximately 4 years back. i just didn't know i could do anything about it until today when i googled "how to treat toyota shiny sticky/melted dash board". i've contacted toyota and they said they have sent out a letter stating that there was a warranty extension to anyone experiencing this issue. the problem was that as an owner i did not receive any notification of this warranty. i've had very visual distraction when driving in the direction of the sun. the dashboard is constantly being damaged when wiped with a clean/wet cloth. toyota now states i am out of luck because i missed the warranty by 13 business days. this is a horrendous business practice to not replace a known issue. it has become a hazard on the road and should not be taken lightly.
I received 1st notice from toyota motor regarding factory waranty extension because of sticky dashboard about 2 years ago. i received 2nd notice last spring and brought my car to toyoto service and verified that my car dashboard need to be repkaced. the put the line for replacement and they were going to notify me. it was april 2016. when i called sevice after several months they said it back order and waiting for the parts. then i decided to call toyoto motor custemer service and they said my order was in the line and within 6 months it will be in service. i said ok. two dats ago i called touoto motor and ask when my dashboard will be delivered. they said they don't know it is back order. they said i am going to be notified. i wanted to talk their maneger . they said their mabager will call me. today i have received call. she repeated same things. it is backorder they don't know when my dashboard will be replaced. i am very frustrated now. i don't thing that they have plan to satisfy their customer. they just act like they taking care the issue because if court order. i searcged many toyoto owner are waiting for toyoto services call them fir dashboard replacement but i belive that they don't have any serious action. goverment offices myst start investigation and clarify what action and how many cars dashboard problem have been solved after the court order. it was safety problem and my government should push toyoto to solve this issue. i will try to find the court, the federal judge and inform that toyoto lying many toyoto owner and they don't take serious action to solve it. their only answer the it is backorder part. you have to order that how many cars' dashboard have veen replaced over kast 2 years. the number will give idea how much they consider this issue seriously. it is big safety issue because of shiny dashboard.
