We have classified the 115 complaints from 2009 Toyota Camry about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
For a couple of years my dashboard has been oily and sticky when it is exposed to the sun. i live in florida, where it is always hot. when i am driving in the daytime, there is a glare that the dashboard give to the windshield. it is so sticky and glossy that one time i put a sun visor in the windshield to protect the dashboard and the sunvisor stuck to the dashboard due to the stickiness. the glare to the windshield from the shiny, oily dashboard is a hazard and should be fixed asap before an vehicle accident occurs. *tr
2009 toyota camry se driver side top of dashboard melting making a crack about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. it looks like a patch on the dashboard compared to approximately the size of an adult hand. the melting area gets worst with the heat and lifting up with an uneven bump on the dashboard. note: vehicle was not involved on any accidents 9/30/2014. *tr
Sticky dashboard and glare makes driving dangerous. *tr
Sticky and shiny dashboard: my dashboard is very sticky and it's difficult to clean but not only that but there is the glare and when that comes up i can't really see where i am going properly. it's quite dangerous since the shiny dashboard makes even more difficult to see the road and traffic lights when sun hit right at you. in order for me to drive i have to lean down a little bit and go in between the two glare spots. *tr
The dashboard is sticky and produces a bright glare onto the windshield, making it very difficult to look through. i have tried to clean it thinking it was gunk or build up, but it doesn't not do any good or changes anything to the material. it continues to be very sticky. this is not only a hazard, but also very unaesthetic. this is very dangerous. *tr
The dashboard of my 2009 toyota camry is melting. we live in kentucky so it is not just warmer weather states like toyota states it is. the melting causes a glare that is dangerous. i have been lucky others may not. i contacted toyota they really could care less. how many people need to get hurt before action is taken? *tr
Beginning in summer 2014, the 2009 toyota camry le dashboard has gradually become very shiny. the shininess now produces a glare on the windshield and makes it difficult to see through the windshield at times. in addition, the shiny area of the dashboard has become increasingly sticky with a tacky feel to it. no commercial products have been used to clean the windshield, and car is under cover the majority of the time. *tr
Like many others i have read about online my dashboard is melting and sticking causing a constant glare in my windshield making it hard to see in front of me. i strongly believe this is an ongoing and dangerous issue that should be addressed by the automakers. *tr
Sticky dash. i have not had an accident due to this problem. i noticed the sticky dash shortly after purchasing the vehicle, but as i had not been notified of a recall, did not report it until my last oil change. the service manager at that time, reported the sticky dash to toyota. i called this week regarding the matter and was told by the service manager that toyota would replace the dash, but the labor of $251.00 was my responsibility. i told the manager that i did not feel that the labor or any cost should be my responsibility, as it was a defect in the product and not anything that i had created. my car is parked in the garage at least 96% of the time. having said that, i do feel that if it had been parked outside for most of the time, the problem would be much worse and over time it will most likely get worse. i watched the report on channel 5 last evening regarding this matter and hopeful that something will be done. thank you *tr
I noticed my dashboard was sticky. when i tried to clean it chunks of dashboard came off. does toyota cover repairs or replacement? *tr
The dashboard has become very sticky and shiny, causing a glare from the sun. this is very dangerous while driving. i have taken the car to toyota and they could not and would not do anything about it. i see i am not the only one having this problem and believe the dashboard should be recalled. *tr
The dashboard has become very sticky and causes dangerous sunlight to reflect from it to the windshield. nothing will resolve the stickiness. i contacted the local toyota dealership and was told it seemed to be a problem with the camry's but no offer of help. i have searched and cannot find a recall for this defect, looking up the problem on the internet, there appears to be many people with the same complaint. please recall. *tr
Glare due to melted dashboard cause delay reaction due to poor visibility resulting in double impact. the dashboard issue looks to be a cosmetic issue but it really should be a recall as it is clearly a poor manufacturing product that when in contact with the sun turns into a shinny sticky residue that reflects the direct light right into de driver and passenger's face. toyota should stand by their product and replace the poorly designed dashboards before a fatality occurs. *tr
My 2009 camry dash board is melting and gives a reflection that is very dangerous as it blocks the view. also worry if this is affecting the functions of the air bags. i contacted toyota headquarter and was not given a solution to this problem. this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. i was a very happy camry owner until this problem started. *tr
Vehicle (now with 98,532 miles) has a "sticky" dashboard caused by the breakdown of the materials composing the dashboard. breakdown of materials has caused the dashboard to have a glare. the glare presents a safety problem. the material breakdown of the dashboard is believed to ultimately lead to a cracking of the dashboard which may also cause interference with operation of the air bag. *tr
The interior dashboard is melting
My dashboard is melting and there is a glare that makes it difficult to see. *tr
My toyota camrys dashboard has always been an issue. its scratches easily. but this summer it started to feel sticky. around the hottest part of the day it will actually be shiny and melted and as the temperature goes down it will go back to being gooey, soft. when the sun is highest i have to put my sunglasses on to shield off some of the glare on my dash. the other day i drove for an hour around 3pm and later i was suffering from a twitch in my eye from eye strain from the glare off my dash. a friend of mine got in the car and i had forgotten to tell her not to touch the dashboard as it was around 1pm. i knew it would be melting. she placed her cell phone on it and as soon as she took it off, pieces of the dashboard stuck to her phone. i now have holes on my dash. it wasn't her fault and i don't see why it should be mine either or why i should continue to put up with it. i have always kept my car clean and serviced. i have always protected the inside with mothers and armor all. when i called the dealership they told me it was my fault because i must have put something on it i wasn't supposed to and that it would cost 1800 dollars to replace the dash. why should i pay to fix a defective product? in my investigation i have found that many people are having this problem, especially in the southern states. can something please be done? can toyota please take responsibility for their greedy cost cutting tactics? so far i have attended numerous recalls for this car for one thing after another. having to take out time from work and my personal time to go for another recall is not what i envisioned when i bought this car. its not what i signed and paid for. i will not buy another toyota until toyota starts treating customers with respect. *tr
My dash board is sticky and melted looking. the glare it causes makes it very difficult to see. if i don't wear sunshades i cant see. i called toyota to make a complaint and they said they can't do anything because it is out of warranty. also my passenger side window will only work occasionally. *tr
At about 60 thousand miles i noticed the dash board of my wife's 2009 camry begin to be very sticky and appeared to be melting. i went online and purchased a carpeted dash cover for it to no avail. the material remained sticky and extremely soft to the touch. also, it gives a glare from the glass when driving. we continues to live with this issue until i heard of others who were experiencing the same problems. i took the vehicle to my local dealer (gettel toyota, bradenton, fl) where we purchased the vehicle and they offered to recover the dash with a synthetic leather material for the cost of $500.00. i said to the service manager that i did not think it was fair that i had to pay for what in this case was clearly defective material. the dash is not a "wear and tear" item. at that time he rescinded his offer to repair my vehicle for the price quoted and i decided to make this clain in an effort to get the vehicle repaired. *tr

The dashboard of my 2009 camry is melting. it creates a dangerous, blinding glare. i am concerned that is will cause an accident. i have called my local dealer and was told that there has not been any recalls of the dashboard. it is very sticky and cannot be cleaned with anything as paper sticks to it when wiped. this is truly a safety issue. there are several issues with the dashboard that need to be addressed and quickly. please investigate these issues and recall the dashboards to help save lives. *tr
The dashboard is sticky like it is melting. the sticky stuff on the dashboard creates a glare when the sun hits it at certain angles. also, the dashboard has cracked and i am concerned this will affect the functioning of the air bags. *tr
I park my car in my garage . i drive this car everyday. when i touch the dashboards, it is so sticky. it seems like the dashboards have been melt . *tr
My toyota, camry's dashboard is melting and this is causing driving safety issues. the sticky, melting dashboard is causing a glare to my window and it prevents me from seeing the road properly, potentially casing a fatal car accident. *tr
The dash is sticky and seems to be melting. you can touch it and it will leave an impression. a couple of cracks have also developed. this car is not that old. i am concerned about the safety of the airbags due to the breakdown of the dash. i also did not pay the price i did for an automobile that would look like this after only 6 years. i called the dealership and they said it would be about $1500 to replace the dash. i don't believe i should have to pay for this. there should be a recall. *tr

Dashboard is melting, very sticky and can create glare possibly risking driver safety. *tr
So far, there is no accident, (i had to place a date on this form so i can submit) however, i am concerned with my melting dashboard. this is creating a sun glare on my driver's side windshield, it could cause an accident, if i cannot see out of my windshield while driving. *js
The dashboard of my toyota camry 2009 has become very sticky. i have tried to clean it but cannot remove whatever is making it sticky. this became noticeable about 5 months ago. while searching the internet for a product to clean the dashboard, i have only found multiple complaints concerning dashboard sticky and melting problems from other toyota camry owners. i reside in florida, which is one of the states with the majority of complaints are coming from. some owners report that the dashboard is causing extreme glare coming from their sticky dashboard making visibility an issue. during the summer months i use a windshield cover in my car and have had all of the windows tinted to cut down on the heat in the car. *tr
The vehicle has a rattling noise under the hood that no one can figure out the problem. took it to the toyota dealer and completed the work that they said i had to do but the rattling noise still continues. i also took it to a certified mechanic who cannot figure out the problem either. *tr
About six months ago i noticed that the dashboard on my toyota looked very shiny and felt very sticky. as the months went on i noticed that when the car was left in the sun the dashboard became extremely sticky, and when touched, the melted material stuck to my fingers. the dashboard is literally melting., it is difficult to drive in the daylight in the bright sun, as the shine from the dashboard forms a glare on the windshield. this makes it difficult to read signs or see the traffic lights. i live in florida where it is hot and sunny most of the time. i feel that this is a safety hazard. *tr
i have a 2009 camry xle with the sticky dash issue! the dash is turning into a glue like substance. it also has a noticeable smell when it is hot out where the dash is letting off fumes. there is a glare which is amplified from his issue. im not sure if the fumes are toxic but i have to keep the windows open to air it out when i 1st get in. when i purchased the car i even bought the extended warranty from toyota and a interior warranty! well guess what! its not covered! the interior trim warranty by perma plate states it covers cracked staining or faded dash and trim not sticky! i was told this is a manufacturing defect where the glue is coming through the dash. i went to the dealer and they told me to call toyota customer service ! i call and got the standard sympathy statement of its out of warranty! to try to get a discount from your dealer? well i bought this car in maine, moved to florida in 2010 so yes there is a local dealer but not where i bought this car. *tr

Dashboard is sticky and shiny. i brought the car to west kendall toyota. advisor said he would get me a quote. the quote for me is $400 to replace the dashboard. this is not right and toyota should cover the total cost. the sheen on the dash also creates a glare on sunny days, which create a safety hazard. toyota is avoiding a recall for the use of inferior parts. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that the dashboard surface became sticky and melted. the contact had to use the visor while driving because the glare on the windshield was blocking her visibility. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The dashboard is sticky and melting. now there is a glare that affects my son when he is driving. glad to know we are not the only ones with the problem. hopefully they will do something. i am afraid for my son to continue to drive the car. *tr
I absolutely adore my car, but i too have a melting dashboard. i spent about $60 for a dash cover and that wont even stay on the dash because in the florida heat, it still melts. my dash has marks in it now from it melting and if i ever decide to sell, even with the low mileage, it will take away the value of my car which is in excellent shape. *js
Melting dashboard. *tr
My vehicle has a sticky melted dashboard that needs to be replaced. this complaint is to support the recall of this dashboard. i contacted the local toyota dealer and they said the dashboard was approximately $1400 that i am not willing to pay. i still owe my vehicle and should not have this sticky- mirror almost-melting dashboard. excellent vehicle but disappointed on this part of it. it is a hazard because of the glare it causes on the road with the sun and most of the time there is no good visibility. *tr
My daughter owns a 2007 toyota camry, the interior of the vehicle has been kept in great condition, and my wife has been driving it for the past 18 months. we recently noticed that the dash board on the vehicle has gouges in it (on the area that hangs over above the steering wheel) and we realized that merely accidentally touching the dash board with your fingernails (as one could do accidentally if you were driving and turning the wheel) is enough to cause the nails to "sink in" and cause a permanent scar in the dash board. the entire dashboard, when you touch it, is "sticky", or "tacky", almost like drying paint or tar. it's so soft, that conceivably, you could take an ice cream scoop and scoop out entire chunks. my 2009 toyota camry also has the same issue. i did not clean my dash board with any polish. my first thought was that .. the dashboard is melting or suffering some kind of heat-related damage due to the florida heat, but this still should not be happening. i should note that my wife and i have never applied any cleaning chemicals or anything to the dash board, other than taking an ordinary dry rag and wiping down the dust. have you guys heard of this problem before? thanks in advance. *tr
From the start of this year i have realized that my dashboard seems to be melting. its sticky and shiny and the shininess becomes distracting. i cant wipe it much because particles will stick to it. toyota is stating i must pay for a new dashboard but i feel that isn't fair due to a defect with the car dashboard. i live in the us virgin islands and temperatures are always hot. i have owned a few cars and been in all my family members cars and have never experienced a melting dashboard. *tr
While driving s on i95 just north of ponte vedra exit between jacksonville and st. augustine, fl a large piece of tire retread/recap came down in my lane and i had no option but to hit it going between 65-70mph causing damage to my front and rear bumpers and unknown damage underneath until it is checked out. tire recap causes many accidents or vehicular damage with no repercussions. if i were to drop large items from my vehicle that damaged other vehicles or caused accidents, there would be severe repercussions. money is no excuse for safety, make them pay for tires or stay off the road! *tr
My dashboard has gone from its splendor to now a melted, sticky, shiny, glary, dashboard. in fact, a dragon fly landed on the dashboard, got stuck and died (legs are still embedded in dashboard). besides not holding up to the toyota slogans ("who could ask for anything more?" "i love what you do for me, toyota!" "let's go places") which emphasize the positive experiences of ownership, and vehicle quality, the dashboard has become unsafe and my vision is obstructed. *tr
