We have classified the 97 complaints from 2007 Toyota Camry about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Airbag failure - 2007 camry le. i bought this car new due to its airbag safety claims - 7 airbags with one to protect the driver?s legs. none deployed. i traveled on the highway 50-55 mph, a safe distance from the car (bmw) in front of me at rush hour on a sunny dry day. a car cut in front of the bmw causing it to brake instantly, almost coming to a stop. deceleration was too quick. i went straight into the bmw at full speed. there was no time to hit my brakes. my car didn't?t swerve or dive. i wore my seatbelt but leaned forward slightly while firmly in my seat. my chest struck the steering wheel causing an inward displaced spiral fracture of my sternum. i also sustained a large groin bruise with an internal blood clot and chest bruise due to the seatbelt. immediately i had difficulty breathing, got out of my car, lied on the pavement to catch my breath. police/ambulance came quickly, provided oxygen, took me to a hospital. i remained in intensive care for 2 days. the insurance inspector & body shop investigated the car and were surprised the airbags didn't't deploy and couldn't find a reason why the airbags didn't deploy given the damage. the right airbag sensor was bent. my car was deemed totaled. i?m unable to return to my previous work schedule (long hours, intense workload) due to constant pain. i missed 2 weeks of work. due to the fracture i cannot drive for 6 weeks. i requested that toyota evaluate the car to determine if it was a vehicle-specific defect or the entire line (to prevent future injuries). instead of disassembly and computer analysis, toyota only reviewed photos and said it functioned as expected." the vehicle was totaled and the impact straight on and high speed. if not sufficient to activate the airbags, then what's their purpose? the vehicle is in storage for examination. police reports and photos available. i would greatly appreciate nhtsa's response to this report. *tr

We bought 2007 camry in july of 2007. my wife drove it to work and got an accident on 12/5/07. when she exited highway, she used gas then used brake to reduce the speed. the brake did not work. the car sped out of control and hit the side of hill. the car was roll over to one side and totaled. my wife was badly injured and was sent to hospital emergency room. she got some cuts in her head by the broken window and she had to stay at home for about 2 weeks before going back to work.we believed something wrong with the car brake or gas pedal. and when the car hit the side of hill, none of car safety air bags came out. the car was totaled and paid by our insurance. but this accident gave her a long time fear and bad feeling when she passed that place. we hope we can join the toyota class action lawsuit. please give us some suggestions. thanks! *tr

I recently purchased a new 2007 camry le automobile from a toyota dealership. the passenger side airbag activation weight sensor is inconsistent in behavior and unable to readjust to a new weight reading during a trip. my wife weighs approximately 100 lbs plus clothes. one time out of seven the airbag sensor will not register her as being sufficiently heavy to activate the airbag. i once restarted the car seven times to try to get it to register. i then moved myself (174 lbs plus clothes) to the passenger seat, started the car with an empty driver's seat, got out of the car and let my wife sit in the passenger seat. the airbag came on while i was sitting there, and did not change (to off) after my wife replaced me during the 20 minute trip. i have had to use this technique each time the sensor refuses to turn the airbag on when my wife is the front passenger. i have taken the vehicle into two different toyota dealerships to have the sensor checked out, and they both insist it is working fine. i suspect that toyota is using substandard parts that do not deal well with moderately high external temperatures; such as those not found inside a climate controlled maintenance bay. i fear that in haste we may miss one time it does not turn on and get into a serious collision that injures my wife. *tr
My airbags on both sides continue to fall down out of the casing. i have reported this to toyota corporate 5 times and it has been repaired 5 times. the problem still exits. i called toyota again 2 weeks ago and they have not returned my call. this is an immediate danger to my family with these falling airbags. *tr

2007 toyota camry. letter from attorney sent on behalf of consumer in regards to injuries sustained when drivers side air bag did not deploy*tgw
I bought a 2007 camry se v6 and have had nothing but problems with it. transmission slips, creaking dash and windshield, a pillar airbag cover replaced 3 times, center console stack does not line up, dash is not flush next to a & b pillars (haven't seen one yet that was), knocking noise in rear strut tower (fixed after two dealer visits, they added sound insulation), driver side armrest fabric peeling off (seen at first delivery of vehicle ), radio head unit freezes up randomly (dealer cannot fix because they cannot duplicate), steering is very loose and vehicle drifts on road (safety concern, dealer stated characteristic of tire), front grill loose on right side (dealer fixed) and seat plastic rail covers broken upon delivery (dealer fixed). vehicle also idles rough in cold weather (dealer stated bad gas).two to three second delay in acceleration (dealer stated this is normal). each dealer visit required me to leave the car once for ordering the part and a second time for installation. i have wasted way too much time at dealerships having my car repaired to ever consider buying another toyota again. over all i should have tested other cars before buying toyota based on its reliability alone. *tr
I live in canada but i thought this was relative as i notice a recall on this particular car for this precise problem. i had a 2007 toyota camry hybrid was hit on feb 12,2008, but a minivan that had lost control and come into our lane. my toyota camry was hit front offset, possibly two impacts from minivan as the front driver side door was crushed. the car was written off and the driver side air bag on the steering wheel was deployed and the knee air bag was deployed. ,but eventhough my front driver door was crushed in and i could not open it myself and someone opened my vehicle from the outside, the side air bag was not deployed nor was the curtain shield air bag deployed. i suffered a mild concussion from the accident and am still receiving treatment to date. thank you *tr
