I had a one car accident & the air bags on the side of the drivers door injured both of my legs. my left leg had the inside cut to the bone & skin ripped off, could not walk for 8 weeks, had plastic surgery. large indented scar now with swelling of leg, otherwise leg works fine. my right leg has a large hematoma with swelling, no broken skin. the paramedics felt it was the air bags that caused the problem.. car was totaled, make is 2007 camry, computer would not allow me to put in make of car.
Air bag indicator light has been on since at least 9/18/12. several toyota technicians stated it was the squib cable in the steering wheel that needs replacement - other toyota representatives state that it is not the cable. i know the toyota tacoma (?) truck was recalled for a similar problem and the defect corrected. i cannot get a straight answer from toyota if the air bags will engage in a collision - some technicians say it may or may not. the cost to repair was quoted to be somewhere around $680.00. *tr
Dashboard is melting. it is sticky and cannot be undone. bits come off in fingernails when they strike dashboard in error. very hard to clean. *tr
The dashboard of my toyota is falling apart. it is a safety hazard as it contains the passenger air bag. additionally, the glare caused by the shine is very distracting both day and night as sunlight and lights reflect and blind the driver. i believe warranties should cover anything that is a defective part and that's what this is, a defective part, if a part is defective when you manufacturer the car or whether it fails within warranty or out of warranty it shouldn't make any difference." i and other drivers feel the defect is unsafe, and shine a light on the issue with videos taken from their point of view. now we've learned the safety issues may go even deeper. "because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side i wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash," explained [xxx]. "anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious." information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have a 2007 toyota camry and the dashboard is melting. the dashboard towards the windshield is always in a liquid state and the rest of the dashboard is soft. in the sunshine and at night under street lights the dashboard reflects a glare onto the windshield that impairs the drivers entire vision of the road. also on the passenger side of the dashboard the outline of the airbag compartment can be seen. i believe the glare on the windshield is a hazard and due to the current condition of the dashboard the passenger airbag may fail to deploy when needed. the dashboard has not been treated with chemicals that may have caused this problem. it has always been cleaned with a wet wash cloth. *tr

While driving 2007 toyota camry, the car was pulling to the left. i tried to control the car. the steering wheel locked up, the car went out of control. spinning and hitting the guard rail twice. the air bag didnt deployed, and the seat belt didnt hold or lock me into place while it was on. when the car came to a complete stop i turn the vehicle around from the on coming traffic, the brakes was giving out and the car was still steering to the left. i ended up in a ditch on the guard rail. *tr
I got a case number from toyota, toyota told me that the only way my air bag will deploy is that the motor would have to be in the car dash board to protect the driver. so she knows that the car air bag was working properly.
I was involved in an accident where a minivan made a u-turn in front of my vehicle while i was heading straight. my vehicle hit the other vehicles passengers side from the beginning of the tire upwards to the tip of his front bumper and my car was damaged on the impact of the vehicle from my drivers side bumper i then reared off the road to a ditch after impact with the other vehicle where i headed downwards into rocks and trees. the car was totaled, and everything inside the hood was forced forward, the vehicle was totaled beyond repair. the body frame could not be repaired and not one of the airbags deployed. *tr
My wife was in a car accident with her 2007 toyota camry ~ air bags failed to deploy. *tt
In my 2007 toyota camry, at first (approx. 2011) the dashboard would feel sticky, as if something had spilled on it. however the stickiness could not be cleaned up. it was in fact the material of the dashboard melting. it continues to get worse and spreads across a larger area, to the point that now (2014) the dash cannot be touched without a mark being left in the melted material. it looks wet and is so glossy that the glare is impossible to see through most of the day. this is clearly a manufacturers defect and should be recalled as it is a safety hazard, not just with the blinding glare which impairs vision, but because the passenger airbag is contained inside of the dashboard and the dashboard being melted may affect its deployment. *tr
My sister whole family was involved in major accident was hit by 16 wheeler truck, last july 30,2011, driving 2008 camry se airbag did not deploy. car was first hit between driver and passenger side, with speed around 65 mph then drug by the truck for few seconds, the car flip one side did not roll over because thanks god it something to prevent from rolling over. and thanks god nothing happen to the whole family (4). it happened around 11 pm and good thing they are all awake when it happened. my nephew even saw the truck when it is about to hit them.. to much light and really close... then it hits them. but the big question seeing the condition of the car none of the airbag deploy. it would have been prevented some of there bruises. *tr
I have a 2007 toyota camry lxe. a driver decided to move into my lane from the left, to avoid a serious collision i had to swerve to the right and hit the brakes. my anti-lock brakes locked and i had no control over the car as we skidded across four lanes and hit a concrete wall. the air bags did not deploy and the seat belts (which were in use) did not lock us in. my wife hit the inside ceiling and the right window of the front door. i tried to find an attorney to go after toyota but could not find one who had the guts to stand up to toyota. there was over $14,500 in repairs and as of today they are still putting the car back together again. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a crash and the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and the driver sustained minor injuries. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who confirmed that there was enough damage done to the vehicle to activate the air bags. the manufacturer was sent pictures of the crash and determined that the damages were not substantial enough to trigger the air bag sensor for deployment. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 74,000.
I owned a 2007 camry le. on 3/05/11 my brakes failed while on the highway. i careened across the highway and then the car started flipping. the car flipped at least 3 times before hitting an exit sign. the exit sign then pierced the roof of the car and landed between my legs. thank god i wasn't seriously hurt. but through all the flipping across the concrete, my airbags did not deploy. my complaint is brake failure and lack of airbag deployment. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact was driving in a parking lot approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was engaged and there was an unexpected acceleration. the brakes were applied with force repeatedly; yet, the vehicle failed to slow down causing it to crash into a brick building. the air bags failed to deploy. the contact suffered a minor whiplash injury; and sustained bruises on the right foot. a police report was not filed. the vehicle sustained substantial damage to the front end. there was also minor damage to the building. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and to be repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the malfunction. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
I hit a bmw. i was changing the station in my car and when i looked up i was too close to the bmw to successfully stop before hitting them. as a result, because the bmw was completely stopped, a domino effect occurred in that the two cars in front of the bmw were also hit. the damage to the bmw, the car i directly hit, was a back bumper that was slightly de-attached from the car (moderate damage) and a the front windshield cracked. the airbag in the bmw deployed. my airbag did not. i was in an accident in 2008 where i was rear-ended. again, at the rate i was hit, my car's airbag did not deploy. this is the second toyota that i have bought where the airbag did not deploy. i worry that there was something wrong with my car's sensors.
The airbag cover on the windshield post was installed with a defective/and or damaged clip. the airbag cover was loose and could have been snagged by a passenger, etc. and come off at any time. the toyota dealer maintained that these covers were just cosmetic and that i could drive without covers and the car would still be completely safe. i did not want to drive it that way so i paid the dealer $ 71.78 for parts and labor to replace their defective part. i want to know who at toyota would want to drive a car on our freeways with a compromised air bag system in that condition? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated; the vehicle spun around and hit a concrete median. the side air bags did not deploy. the contact had several bruises. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed. the contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
At 59,000 miles, the check vs system light came on, as well as check engine light. i took the car to the toyota dealer. at the time, i still had the extended warranty. they replaced "bank 2" ignition coil and charged me $100 deductible. at 70,528 miles the exact same thing happened. check vsc system and check engine light came on. at the time, still under extended warranty. it was diagnosed with bad # 6 coil. they charged me the $100 deductible. at 90,000 miles (now) the exact same symptoms. i am assuming it is another bad ignition coil. there should be a recall on the 2007 camry's ignition coils. i cannot afford to keep replacing ignition coils by a toyota dealership, especially now that my car is not under the extended warranty. i also had toyota replace clips on the air bag cover on passenger side in 2008. the part still sags. it is defective. it is in the toyota dealership computer system that i brought it in at least twice for the sagging air bag cover. the new clips did not fix it. *tr

I was stop at the stop light waiting for the light to turn green. when light turn green, i proceeded to make left hand turn into the undivided ramp. the steering would not return to the right. i turn the steering wheel as fast as i can to the right, but vehicle would not go to the right. on coming traffic hit me head on and collided head on with no air bags deployed at all. bruised on head due to hitting head on driver side window. insurance company had taken all parts for investigation. my left wheel was torn in half like it was open up by a can opening. ball joints were off also. *tr

I bought a 2007 camry hybrid from autoland (springfield, nj) in 2007, vin [xxx]. recently i was in an auto accident (august 25, 2010) in which i hit a car in front of me. i don't have the exact speed of the impact but i would estimate it was 25-35 mph. the resulting impact resulted in a total wreck of the car (photos available). however, the airbag did not deploy despite the force of the impact being substantial enough to total the car. i was injured in the accident, with injuries which include a cut on the forehead from hitting the windshield and neck soreness. the car was recently serviced by toyota, so teh the airbag system should have operated properly. records available from the dealer. i was the only person in my car. no one else was injured. my insurance company suggested i contact toyota, i had a very hard time reaching them and they do not have a email or web based way of filing these issues. when i finally spole to a representative, they claimed that the aribag functioned as designed. apparently the rate of deceleration is factored into decision to deploy. i was breaking for about one second when i hit and despite my velocity at impact ( 25 to 35 mp) , the fact that i was slowing down was a decision factor not to deploy. i am an engineer and quite frankly i am surprised with this criterion for deployment. the person on the phone at toyota could not elaborate further. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

On 6/26/2010, a speeding nissan altima ran a stop sign and collided with my toyota camry left front wheel causing my car to loose control, jump the curb to it's right and crashed head on into a fire hydrant protective barrier. the other car continued to hit my car from behind on the left rear further causing the head on impact and frontal damage. the airbags of my toyota failed to deploy. the airbags of the altima did deploy. because if the severity of the impact and frontal and other damage, my toyota camry was totaled. the impact also caused the two left side tires to blow out. also as the toyota camry jumped the curb, it hit a metal traffic sign causing it to be cut off completely at the bottom. *tr

Vehicle accident involving my daughter driving her 2007 toyota camry the camry sustained major front end damage and was salvaged a total loss by her insurance company. her estimated speed on impact was 35-40 mph and none of her airbags deployed. after researching is issue i discovered that there are hundreds of complaints of this same issue regarding toyota vehicles listed on the consumers reports website and surely hundreds more listed in other areas. the majority of the posts i have read all have the same issue regarding the lack of concern by toyota. *tr
I was driving my 2007 toyota camry in a left turn and suddenly the steering wheel was locked up. i tried to hit the brakes, the brakes was locked up too. i lost control of the car and ran into woods. car hit a tree in front and stopped, but none of the air bags deployed. thus, my head hit steering wheel and got two cuts on my forehead. i was sent to er and had a surgery with 11 stitches. the car is a total lose now. *tr
In 2007, i purchased a new 2007 toyota camry from tejas toyota in humble, tx. on or about august 18, i got my vehicle serviced at the dealership. they performed a multi-point inspection, oil change, tire rotation, and checked fluids. vehicle was rendered in good working condition. approximately one week later, while approaching an intersection in downtown houston, i saw the vehicle in front of me begin to come to a stop. i saw the light turn red and i had plenty of room to stop. i applied the brake, but nothing happened. my tires did not squeal, my car did not decelerate at all, but i did not spin or veer off in any direction. i almost attempted to go around the vehicle stopped in front of me, however, that would have left me in the middle of oncoming traffic in an intersection. i knew that could result in a possibly worse situation, so i held down the brakes and just prayed that my vehicle would stop. as a result of this vehicle failure, i hit the vehicle in front of me directly in the rear end of their mercedes benz suv. strangely, my airbags did not deploy. this too greatly concerns me. luckily no one was seriously hurt, however, it caused approximately $9,000 in damage to my vehicle and i have medical bills over $600. my car was fixed! ridiculous! unfortunately, now i am scared to drive my vehicle and i cannot recover my damages from my insurance company. *tr

I was a passenger in my car and my boyfriend was driving on the highway 101 (northbound) in san francisco and were struck by another vehicle from the rear about 20-30 mph. neither airbag went off from the collision, causing me to hit my head on the dash and my boyfriend hitting his legs on the dash and steering console. the airbag light is on indicating it was deployed and the repair shop is informing us that it has to be replaced. *tr
Wife was driving down hwy 77 arkansas city kansas, making a pass she lost control after she slid off shoulder at bend of the road. out of the multiple air bags only one deployed the passengers side curtain. after reviewing the crash site and reading report the first hit to the car was drivers side front end, it was a very hard hit. steering bag should have gone off as it dug into a turn around mound. went up and down wide median ditch starting a six turn rolling of the 2007 toyota camry. she went out sun roof even though she had seat belt on. medical report stats seat belt marks and severe leg injuries. she will never be the same and i'm lucky to still have her. i will use all means to find out why the so called safety features on this car did not prevent some of the damage to this wonderful women. *tr
