We have classified the 111 complaints from 2014 RAM 1500 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I just bought myself a brand new 2014 ram 1500 in november 2014 and today on january 05 2015 i get in the truck to go to lunch and the check engine light comes on and the external temp. gauge reads the it is -40 degrees which is impossible considering i live in south georgia, also my odometer reading is blank and my front windows wont go down. the truck only has 1,922 miles on it and all of this happened at the same time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off. after restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 4,000.
The 2014 ram 1500 sport i bought has had repeated dash and interior lighting problems. the dash lights randomly flicker or don't turn on at all. on some occasions no interior lights at all would work. the truck has been back to the dealership three times but still hasn't been repaired. the dealership has done software updates, re-grounded the electrical system and replaced the body control module without fixing the problem. in addition the remote start sometimes does not start the truck it locks the doors instead, the dealership has been unable to find a solution. i feel that the dial used to select the drive gear is a potential safety hazard. the dial is a similar size and shape as the comfort and radio controls and placed right next to other dash knobs. i believe that a driver could intend to change the radio station or turn the fan down but inadvertently take the truck out of gear. overall this truck has serious electrical flaws and the possibility of being knocked out of gear while driving. the vehicle is not safe in my opinion. *tr
Since i purchased my ram, the check engine light comes on and off as if pleases and randomly it will tell me fuel sensor fail. this comes on and off randomly but lately it happens at least once a trip.
Check engine light came on. that was 9/24/14. the check engine light has been through a myriad of "fixes". it is now 02/03/15 (5 1/2 months) - the check engine light is still on and the dealership has it in for "repair". the warranty requires that the vehicle not be driven when the check engine light is on, thus denying us of the regular use of the vehicle, which is critical in our cattle operation. the full nature of the complaint may be obtained by faxing or emailing a request to us. *tr
The remote control can start the vehicle just by contact in a pocket. the auto start is too exposed on the key fob. it has started my ram truck in my garage while i was inside the house, causing a carbon monoxide hazard. also any movement can lock or unlock the vehicle at any time just my the contact of clothing while in a pocket. this is a severe hazard and can cost lives. dodge needs to re-engineer the fob to make it safe. *js
Parking sensors go off with nothing in front, when wet. there was a star class on this. they exchanged the sensors left to right. the issue followed the sensors. dealer wants to have the vehicle when the issue occurs, as they can not replicate in shop. when it happens, i can't get to shop. has been in shop multiple times. now vehicle is out of regular warranty, but still issue has not been resolved.
My brand new vehicle had a front left headlight that was out. stopped by police, went to dealer next day, they said they see this across model line. brand new car . was concerned how dark road was driving at night..never thought on a brand new car this would occur ! *tr

Transmission will shift into neutral when slowing down to turn or stop. necessary to turn off engine start and put into gear. this has happened 18 times to date. i have a 4 page document detailing each time, place, and occurance. if i had an address to sent to. i am in a small town so have nor has any traffic problems but if i go to a large city this would be bad to stop and restart vehicle in heavy traffic. have had to dealers twice. first one told me they could not find anything. and second dealer after keeping my vehicle 3 days said he did not have time to look at it. ntsb # 10748878
While trying to engage cruisecontrol must bang steering wheel hard to in gage also when hitting bump in freeway enginenstops stayes running speed lost then goes back to normal lights on dashboard change brightness at night trans shifts odd at times
i have had 16 incidents with my 2014 ram 1500, vin# [xxx]. equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. when i slowed down for a stop to turn right, the transmission went into neutral and the truck coasted down to a stop. the transmission knob would not shift out of drive and the transmission stayed in neutral. when i stopped and turned off motor, i could turn transmission shifter to park, start truck and shift into drive. this happened about 5 weeks apart. both times i was on a city street and it was not a traffic problem. current mileage 7455. i called my dealer and he said he had not heard of this problem, and said if it happened again to have to towed to him. i live 150 miles from him. my closest dealer is 60 miles. this is still happening almost monthly. i have dates and times i can send. don't have room in this form for complete complaint information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact experienced electrical failures while driving or starting the vehicle intermittently. the contact stated that the vehicle had no trailer brake, traction control, or center console functionality. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radio caused the electrical short and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the radio was replaced five times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
Since this truck was new there has been an intermittent issue with the control panel going dead, or losing power. this panel includes the ability to change the truck into various 4x4 settings as well as the panel that controls many other functions such as the heated/cooled seats, air ride suspension etc. sometimes the turning off the truck and then restarting it clears the issue, other times it does nothing. there are other people with the same issue. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=179332&highlight=control+panel this is a safety issue due to not being able to engage or disengage 4x4 when needed as well as being very distracting to the driver.
There is a continuous unknown electrical draw causing the battery to drain to the point the vehicle will not start. an electrical surge will cause the electric suspension to activate along with the console cluster after the vehicle has been turned off. the vehicle has been back to the dealership 6 times and neither the dealership or chrysler has a fix. the condition is getting worse and now there is a new issue affecting the electrical clutches in the transmission. i have requested a loaner vehicle until i can purchase a different vehicle i feel is safer. on april 3, 2014, the district chrysler representative denied the request. i believe this vehicle is unsafe for multiple possible reasons but especially concerned about he alternator. the alternator's function is to recharge the battery once it's been used to start the engine. and to keep the battery charged when various electrical systems are used in the vehicle. the alternator determines how much to charge the battery by measuring the reference voltage from the battery. if there's a problem with the battery where the reference voltage is very low, the alternator will try to recharge the battery. the alternator isn't designed to recharge a dead battery. it's intended to maintain the charge on a good battery. when this does happen, the alternator begins to run hot, and this is what kills the alternator. a dead battery while driving means no electric steering, no antilock brakes, no air bags, ect. i'm very concerned about the safety of this vehicle. *tr
