We have classified the 111 complaints from 2014 RAM 1500 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
2014 dodge ram. consumer writes in regards to defective fuel level indicator. *ld *js
Error code p0463: fuel level sensor circuit high input, this means my fuel gauge is experiencing failures and i can not accurately determine how much fuel is in the vehicle. doing a quick google search, this appears to be a very common issue with the 2014 ram 1500 5.7l. i'm at roughly 68500 mile on my truck so the issue is also out of warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving approximately 40 mph, the instrument cluster began to pulsate. the contact stated that the failure occurred for the last two weeks and occurred while the vehicle was stationary and idling. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 109,900.
While driving the 2014 ram 1500 the vehicle has lost power numerous times. this is an intermittent issue and i have not been able to duplicate on the spot. this means that the lose of power can happen at any given time. this lose of power will result in losing steering and sometimes braking, since all are controlled by electronics. these occurrences have happened while normal driving conditions; rolling up windows, turning on bright lights, and just driving.
The odb harness plug in that the reader plugs in is corroded and the reader will not work.they can not plug in to do the recalls. truck has 32000 miles and always has been kept in a garage and dry. they want 836.36 to replace and will not cover under warranty. it is under the dash under steering will and should not have corroded.
2014 dodge ram. consumer writes in regards to problems with ignition, lights and transmission. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle was parked on a hill when it began to roll backwards and crashed through a gate. the consumer grabbed the wheel, from standing outside the vehicle, directing the vehicle towards an embankment, where it landed. the vehicle dragged the consumer along the way. the emergency brake was on. the consumer stated the key falls out of the ignition, but the vehicle continues to run. the mileage would not appear on the instrument panel. the headlights were not adjustable. *js
Fuel gauge miss reads, common problem in rams. fuel level not known. 15k mile 2014 ram 1500.
Horn no longer works, by pushing it or with key fob locking when locking my truck. i've read that this has happen on multiple ram 1500s. my just stop when exiting my truck and i notice i didnt get any beep when trying to secure my truck. checked every fuse, relay, even took it to the dealership i purchased it from. only had the truck for 4 weeks and they told me i would have to pay $600. this is a safety issue and i shouldn't be responsible for a horn not beeping..
The engine check light illuminated in the instrument panel. i took the vehicle to my dealership and they diagnosed the problem as a fuel level sensor stuck. when the light first illuminated the vehicle was parked. *bf consumer stated when the sensor fails ity causes the fuel gauge to plummet to empty.*jb
Ram 1500 fuel gauge drops to empty and empty signal comes on while driving or at a stand still also states "fuel sensor fail"
Fuel pump sensor failed. replaced the part, bought from the dealership. installed and worked for two days before the sensor again failed. when the fuel tank is filled the gauge does not sense any fuel in the car. also the car's computer system fails to tell you which part is in failure- the brake light indicator went on for the passenger side brake light, it was actually the brake light on the cab that was out.
The vehicle's instrument cluster flickers from bright to extremely dark. the dodge dealership traced the issue back to the icp module. as this module continues to flicker it draws the attention of the operator away from the road. the module also indicates engine issues, this could lead to a loss of control resulting in a crash.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 60 mph at night, the electrical system completely failed without warning and then rebooted on its own. on another occasion, while driving at a low rate of speed, the engine completely failed without warning. the contact drove to m & m chrysler, dodge, jeep, and ram (131 mill st, liberty, ny 12754, 845-292-3500) to have the vehicle diagnosed, but no failure was found. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred back to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 200,000.
'takata recall' while my vehicle is parked in my driveway it is unlocking on its own. has been happening every night for about 2 weeks. i have a security camera and can see that nobody is messing with my truck.
While living in virginia in 2015, i proceeded to take my dodge ram in to correct a defective wire harness. recall notice r36, nhtsa 15-459 noted 'the steering wheel wire harness on your vehicle may become chaffed by the driver airbag module retainer spring ends. a chaffed steering wheel wire harness could cause an electrical short and/or an inadvertent driver airbag deployment. inadvertent driver airbag deployment, during certain driving conditions, may increase the risk of a crash and/or vehicle occupant injury.' after that recall was performed, i lost all use of my horn, and electrical features installed on the steering wheel. i drove several years without these features and never really had time to get this evaluated because of multiple military deployments. we relocated to ohio and i decided to have the truck evaluated and basically the recall work was never corrected by fair oaks chantilly chrysler dealership. on july 8 through july 11, 2019, my vehicle was serviced by jeff wyler chrysler, dodge, jeep in batavia, ohio to corrected the recall notice r36, nhsta 15-459. my service manager noted to submit a claim to be reimbursed for $403.78. they reached out to chrysler headquarters for further consultation, however, they never responded to my service manager.
Approaching a stop sign, i step on the brakes then vehicle went into a slow coast mode. ( a red sign turned on, indicating an "electrical brake" issue). then indicates "switch gear to park", soon after proceeded as normal. the next day as i was stop on a drive thru, same indication occur, engine power went off then "electrical brake" , next thing was "switch gear to park" resuming to normal operation. very concern about this it is my only form of transportation to and from doctors visit, it has about 46,000 miles on it, very well taken care of. would not want it to fail on me at a middle of an interception. in between these events, their is no light that appears. is this a recall issue that can be address immediately please thank you.
Cruise control won't turn on. i've read that if i was able to turn it on it might not disengage.
It started out as flashing instrument cluster and wipers running and engine wouldn't start. took it to the dealer and nothing was found wrong. made two more trips for the same thing until they said ants had gotten into it and chewed on the wiring installation. the harness was replaced but no evidence of it being replaced (original factory torque markings still visible). less than a year later the electrical is still not working properly. the cruise control button is intermittent at best. this morning the engine would not start again and this time it had to be towed in. still waiting on results.
'takata recall' electrical power went out in my 2014 dodge ram 1500. went to the dealership, they replaced the pdc for $737.69 and a day after the power steering stopped while driving and almost crashed into several cars. *dt *dt*jb vehcile was repaired.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving approximately 60 mph, the cruse control did not engage. on other occasions, the cruise control did not deactivate. the failures occurred for approximately one month. the vehicle was taken to baxter jeep/ram/chrysler (7713 s 19th street, belleview, ne 68147) where it was diagnosed that the harness for the steering column was shorting out and needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
I believe when my truck was in for the last recall the dealer said they needed to flash my tipm and no 8m having starting issues with my truck . this will be the fifth time my truck has had issues and not really trusting dodge right now.
Takata recall while the vehicle was in park the rotary knob would spin back and forth and wouldn't move out of park. it stated service transmission shifter. i diconnected the battery and reconnected it. very quickly i moved it into drive and was able to get the truck into drive and in motion . shortly after at a speed of approximately 70 mph, in the middle of the highway, the vehicle shifted from drive into neutral on its own causing the vehicle's engine to accelerate and once i was able to safely maneuver it to the side of the road, it came to a complete stop and it was stuck in park. i have taken the truck to the dealership in buford, ga for further evaluation. they have stated it was something to do with a code in the computer.
Driving on hwy 17 down a ramp, throttle sensor light came on and truck stalled out. restarted truck to pull off hwy/ramp to safer location, noticed thick bl smoke billowing out from under hood. pulled into parking lot, lifted hood to see flames coming off engine. bystander called 911 while i got a bucket of water. threw bucket of water onto engine while police and fire dept finished extinguishing. fire dept stated they have seen a few eco fires. towed to hendrick's, contacted ram. ram stated no need to contact ins co (they will handle it). thought this was strange, contacted ins co anyways. inspected by 2 fire specialists, ins co and ram. ins co stated manufact defect, ram stated leaky injector (which were replaced by ram 18k mi prior at dealership). i sustained smoke inhalation and 1st degree burns to face, neck,lt arm and had/have headaches. truck was still under 100k warranty with only 40k. ram denied opened claim and warranty. ins co totaled truck out, they still have an open claim against ram. additionally ram denying my emissions settlement of 3k only offering 900 (stating emissions work couldn't be done due to fire classifying me as a previous owner although i was current owner even at that time). i still haven't settled emissions. recently ram has recalled all 108k eco-diesels 2014-19 for fire hazard. my truck fits the description for what happens and always needed a little coolant with maint, insp, oil changes. i paid off my truck before, and now have a payment with what i consider a lesser truck. when i call fca and give my info they often hang up, act like they cant hear me, or state they are transferring me to manager (hanging up on me). also stating someone will get back to me, but never any returned call (supposed to get a call tomorrow, will see).
Upon starting my truck both while stationary and in motion on city streets and highways, the driver information center screen flickers and intermittently blacks out. the dealership says to move the dic dimmer knob back and forth to correct the issue. that action does not correct the flickering. the dic information includes engine issues, cruise control, speed, vehicle systems warnings, tire air pressure, oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, charging system status, anti-lock brake system status, etc. i was told "federal regulations require all information displays be clearly legible.". this is a safety issue, can you help me to get it corrected? let me know. regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Fuel sensor failure. it is a known ongoing issue with ram trucks (it is posted all over the internet) about all models and years going through this defective sensor. it has my engine light on and my gauge stuck on empty if i drive 15miles on a full tank. (gauge only works if tank if 100%full and engine light is still on even then)
Went to ram dealer for recall #'s u61, u53, u07. when vehicle was returned am now able to shift from reverse to drive without touching parking brake while vehicle is in motion. also able to shift from drive to reverse and from drive/reverse to park without touching brake pedal. reported problem to dealer 2/21/2019. dealer has procrastinated in fixing issue. notified ram customer service 3/27/2019 to help get recall problem fixed. dealer stated would order part. no calls again from dealer. called ram customer service 04/15/2019 and problem has been elevated, but still no fix to vehicle. dealer again called with no solution to correct recall created safety issue. again, vehicle can be shifted from drive to reverse while vehicle is in motion without touching brake pedal.
2014 dodge ram truck. consumer writes in regards to fuel sensor problems. *ld *tr
During cold weather in minnesota, the electronic power steering failed to respond causing my truck to go into the ditch.
Takata recall. when my 2014 ram 1500 is stationary, moving, or just turned the car on. my touch screen goes black, freezes, and i cannot controll the heat or a.c, fan speed, volume to the radio, radio, heated seats, any electronic buttons on my steering wheel or any of the buttons that are connected to my screen/radio. my daughter's boy friend just purchased the same year turck i did and he started having the same problems with his screen.
Vehicle stalls and loses all power and electrical, shifting itself into park while driving. this is due to the faulty tipm in chrysler vehicles. this has occurred while driving with my wife and children on the highway and on many other occasions; there is no warning or indication that it is going to happen, it just happens. this is unsafe and could result in multiple fatalities. this has been an ongoing issue since december 2018. i purchased the vehicle in may 2018. after doing research as to what the problem could be i discovered that this is an ongoing issue that chrysler is aware of and to my knowledge have done nothing to resolve this issue. had i known that purchasing this vehicle would endanger my family, i never would have even considered buying it.
While driving on a highway there was a loud thump from the engine. engine lost power and shut down. info screen displayed 'check trailer brake,' 'electronic throttle control,' and 'towing mode''.' was not towing anything at the time. able to pull to side of the road safely. engine will not start now. vehicle towed to dealership. awaiting information from dealer on repair.
Power steering warning light illuminated on startup power steering inoperative. turned off waited one minute ran ok. at my next stop it did the same again but took six minutes before power steering worked. both times the vehicle was stationary.
Most recent episode of truck shutting off while driving was while crossing railroad tracks in rural area pulled up to look both ways to cross then started over tracks truck shut off in middle of track needless to say a train was coming around corner, when train was 200 yrd away luck forced it into neutral. needless to say have had it in the shop multiple time in 2015 and ram stated it wasn't throwing code for it to shut off. they let the death trap back on road. this truck has multiple electrical problems.
Vehicle loses power randomly and completely shuts down. this has happened in traffic, in the driveway, and while traveling down a highway at 70mph. in thirteen months the vehicle has been driven and towed for repair to various dealerships seven times. the first four times it was taken to a dealership, it was released to me without repair due to the dealership being "unable to reproduce the issue". this vehicle is dangerous and should be removed from commerce.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 70 mph, the engine revved and the entire instrument panel illuminated. also, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably and then decreased with a knocking noise present. furthermore, when the brake pedal was depressed, the engine continued to rev. the vehicle was serviced at texas dodge (7800 i-40 frontage rd, amarillo, tx 79106, (806) 353-6343) per nhtsa campaign number: 18v332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control), but the remedy failed to repair the failures. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the software was updated again, but the cause of the failures could not be determined. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 127,000. *dt*jb
On the push button start whenever you close a door an alarm goes off stating can't find key fob. just put a new battery in key fob and it still does it. when that happens will not start and when running the alarm still goes off if a door is closed, so you have to turn off engine and use manual over ride to start again
2014 ram 1500 laramie ecodiesel throwing fault code p203e reductant level sensor circuit intermittent/erratic. this fault is caused by crystallized diesel exhuast fluid (def) on the integrated sensor in the def tank. the sensor is unable to detect the amount of fluid in tank and will shut down engine after 500 miles if the tank is not replaced. i do believe after extensive research this is a manufacturing defect. there are two different recalls for this fault which are: number: 18-038-15 rev. b and number: 25-001-15 rev a. the first one covers a pcm flash for the 2015 ram and 2014 jeep grand cherokee. in the notes it says that this is for all 3 liter 8 speed transmissions. which should also include a 2014 ram ecodiesel. the second one if for 2014-15 ram 2500,3500+ with 6.7l diesel engines. the issue i have with that is my vehicle is having that exact issue and needs the same services but it has a 3 liter engine.
Long crank times before starting starved of fuel like it is out am told it will cost around $1000 to fix it timp .a relay for the fuel pump.also have issue with cruise already replaced it only 60000 miles on the vehicle.
In may 2018 fuel sensor fail i had to come out of my pocket to replace. i brought the truck landmark dodge in morrow ga. i only had it for a year, along with the fake warranty that turn out to be no good. i felt like they stole money from me they did not work for. now today i had to come out of my pocket again to pay for a bad tipm with a bad fuel pump relay. i thought that if i get the truck from the dealer, it would be a few years before start having problem with it. i email dodge support about the problem. i have not receive a email from other than they receive my complaint. very poor customer service.
Cannot put it to work it will not haul a trailer, can't drive because it will turn off in bumpy roads, been marking ' shift to desire gear to drive' we have been fighting with people from the agency ( don davis ) and they say they cannot find problems. changed shift cragter twice, no luck! i took it with the enginge like turned on and can't seem to find a 'code' the truck starts shaking up before it turns off completely. it's a matter of safety for myself and my family.
The airbag warning light keeps coming on and off (along with the accompanying "ding"). i think there is a short in the wiring under the driver's seat. whenever i go over big bumps it seems to cause the issue more often.
When you put the brakes on the the lights on the dash board dim down to very dim when the brake is released they come back up.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while at the dealer (columbiana dodge chrysler, 100 commerce circle, columbiana, oh 44404), the contact was informed of an unknown recall for her vehicle. the dealer also informed the contact that the vehicle needed an electronic computer box sensor assembly and a fuel pump relay circuit board. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the nhtsa campaign information was not provided. the contact had not experienced a failure.
Rear left taillight turn signal(blinker) went out. checked with dealership in gladstone oregon and was told that there were over 300 taillights with the same problem as mine within the same distribution area as the portland, or area. this should like a problem once again and it is a safety issue
Truck took brief periods where it would just suddenly die going down the road, then the last time running about 60 mph, it died not far from home and smoke billowed out from under the hood wafting its way inside the cab...son-in-law fought the steering and managed to bring it to a stop on the shoulder of the road...with my granddaughters in the back seat....they were almost overcome by this black obnoxious smoke and both suffered for the longest time a harsh, dry cough...i noticed there are limited recalls on this model of truck and none seem to be related to electrical fires under the hood...how ever these vehicles are unsafe and pose a significant hazard to all the motoring public...they should be recalled and all of them destroyed to protect the public and the passengers...dealership sated the 'brain box and starter burned up' and is not a warranty issue...but the health and well being of my grandchildren are far more important than chrysler's profit margin.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and shifted to the park position. in addition, the contact experienced an electrical failure in which all of the interior lights would not turn off when the vehicle was turned off. a dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000. the vin was not available.
Less than 100k miles, 4 issues started, 1-fuel level sensor 2- service trailer brake system 3- anti lock brakes system - cruse control does not work.
Radio and screen goes blank and stays blank for a period off time (intermittently) when starting the vehicle. it effects the climate control ie: (defroster and heater can't be turned on), rear camera, outside temperature, direction, phone, radio and the seat warmers don't work. this happens when stationary and in motion.
Instrument panel lights blinking on and off while vehicle was in operation
On 11/22/17 at around 5pm driving east bound on i-76 in pennsylvania our 2014 ram 1500 ecodiesel engine caught on fire. as i tried to stop i realized i had no brakes. we slowed to a stop as we started up a hill, i put it in park and we all got out just in time. a certified chrysler mechanic had just 2 days earlier finished installing a new engine. both the dealership & chrysler have denied all ownership and no root cause evaluation has been completed. i believe a fuel line failed due to faulty workmanship, but without a third party independent investigation i guess we will never know and some other customer may experience the same thing.
