We have classified the 111 complaints from 2014 RAM 1500 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Vehicle recently passed 3yr/36k warranty. check engine light and "fuel level sensor" failure code intermittently flash on and off again. when active, i lose all fuel gauge fuel level indication. i note that there are other nhtsa complaints about this and see many online forum discussions abut this. the fuel sensor failure comes on and off while driving the vehicle. the warning is distracting to normal driving, as it takes your attention off the road to check and see what has happened to the vehicle, not knowing if this is a new failure, a tire pressure issue, or something else. i would like nhtsa to look and see if this is a broader issue that needs a recall / manufacturer repair.
Vehicle panel lights staying on without key in vehicle draining battery. has been to dealer 4 times for same issue. today, vehicle would not accelerate over 13 mph, after pulling out onto main street from home. was able to turn around & return home safely, now vehicle at dealer for 5th time for this new issue plus dead battery from panel lights.
While driving on highway check engine light came on. smelled burning, another car pulled along side and yelled "you are on fire" after stopping the truck i was able to extinguish the flames under the engine by applying dry powder fire extingisher into the open hood. later investigation by a chrylser hired investigator indicated the starter cable short circuited to a sharp bracket attached to the frame causing the electrical harness to catch fire. in my opinion chrylser is dragging their feet in authorizing a warranty repair
Truck lost all abs break controls, speedometer stopped working and vehicle became stuck in park. the abs module and abs motor were saturated in water. found recall on dodge journey which matches my issue. seems like ram needs to look into issue. truck has 44246 miles
Driving along at highway speeds, the "throttle control sensor" light comes on for a quick second, then goes off, and "enginge light" goes on. withing seconds, the truck loses power, giving you little to no time to prepare and react. it has happened in l.a. on frwy with loads of traffic, it's so dangerous trying to get over to the side without being killed! it has happened 2 tiimes while in tow mode pulling trailers, again so dangerous when suddenly you have no power. once while pulling horses in the trailer, on an up-hill, with cars behind me and no where to pull over (no shoulder). so unsafe, i was badly shaken over that one with my horses in tow. so this has happened 4 times to us, dodge has had in shop 4 times and cannot fix. it is terrifing to be going along and have your power cut in a moments time, and be in "limp mode". we can no longer trust this truck. so dangerous
My trucks 'service electronic throttle control' light (lightning bolt) comes on both when starting my vehicle and when driving my vehicle. when it comes on when i try to start the truck, it wont change out of the gear it is in (ie i cant go faster than 15-18mph). it sometimes goes off if i turn the engine on and off multiple times. the more dangerous timing of it is when the light comes on while i'm driving.this either causes me to downshift into a lower gear which throws me forward and revs the engine in excess of 3000rpm, or while i am stopped, the rpms climb without any foot on the accelerator. if i take my foot off the brake while this happens, i accelerate forward either up to 18mph or 30mph depending which gear it is 'stuck' in. i have taken it to one local ram dealer 6 times reporting the same issue. the did flash updates, replaced accelerator pedal sensor, brake sensor, repaired connector for the accelerator pedal sensor, and replaced throttle body (all of which at the time, they said each individual component was the root of the problem). i have taken it to another local ram dealer, and they attempted to fix it with 4 and a half hours of diagnostic time. they replaced the throttle body and replaced a cable/connector and low and behold, the problem still exists. this is very dangerous for so, so many reasons. i note that not only the check engine light have come on, but the traction control light, abs light, service 4wd light, ! temp light, check brake light, and of course the service electronic throttle control light.
Shifter knob has slipped or changed gears while moving or standing idle. other times it will not shift into any gear ie: reverse. also dash lights flicker at times, and at times will not turn off parking lights killing the battery. this has happened several times over the past 2 months.
Tipm (totally integrated power module) failure. dealership fails to honor vehicle warranty and is not replacing the defective part under full bumper warranty. this 1 part causes many issues to the entire vehicle and major road safety issues. i have tried many attempts with dealer and manufacturer directly to have this warranty part repaired and they fail to honor such repairs. i see online that this exact part has many known issues and problems for many similar people. this 1 part affects all problems above because all these parts are electrically controlled.
On may 24, 2017, while drive at a speed of 65 mph westbound on interstate 84 in middlebury, ct, our 2014 ram 1500 completely shutdown. no warning lights flashed and we were left with no power. by the grace of god we were able to coast through two lanes of high speed traffic to the right shoulder of the road. the key would not turn the truck back on. ct state police (officer rivera) was called to the scene. the truck sat for approx. 45 minutes and then we tried the extra key we were carrying. the second key turned the truck back on and we proceeded home. once home we tried the first key and it also now worked. we took the truck to the ram dealership (franklin sussex automall, sussex nj) and they could not find a problem. this was a life threatening experience and felt it should be reported.
This has happened about 10 times....after i have driven my truck put it in park shut the key off i cant get the key out ...i have to start back up put truck in drive again and shut it off again to get key out
Stopped for gas then drove 100 feet to store. ten minutes later truck had no electrical power, had to use key to open door. entire system shut down. had vehicle towed to dodge dealer they diagnosed bad winn ignition module truck only had 38,000 miles on it. same thing happened at 35,600 miles and dealership replaced battery and alternator. this problem can happen at anytime even when driving according to other remarks. i told service tech that a couple times a week the key will not engage on first try but then will start vehicle and this has been happening for months. he said that is an indication of the module going bad. i wish i would have know at 36,000 miles or less. i will submit repair orders to dodge to be reimbursed (lol).
Took the truck in for service on air bag light issue to the dealer, lawton chrysler jeep dodge ram's truck center located at 215 se interstate dr., lawton, ok 73501. i was informed by an employee that the airbag light was a common issue due to a bad design and a cheap plastic wiring harness located under the driver side seat. any seat adjustments, loose objects rolling under the seat, or even a rear passengers foot could potential make contact with the harness in a manner that breaks it and may trigger the airbag light to come on.. interstate dr. martin ok 73501 i was informed by employee that the airbag light was a common issue due to a bad design in the cheap plastic wiring harness located under the driver side seat in the seat that just meant loose objects rolling under the seat or even a rear passengers foot could potential make contact with the harness in a manner that breaks the plastic part. this would trigger the airbag light. my concern is, will the airbag function properly if i'm in an accident? *dt dodge admitted it was poor design.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving between 65-70 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 42,415.
This is the second time we have had to have something fixed on the abs and trac light repaired. they had to repair the wire and replace wire connector, then clear code for us. is there other people having issues with this? the milage is only 26414 and the vehicle is less than 3 years old.
I have had multiple check engine lights come on stating that there was high voltage on the fuel sensor as well as had my fuel gauge stop working and my cluster read fuel sensor fail. the dealership said it was a dead spot in the fuel level sensor and the pump had to be replaced but won't cover it under warranty. this happens now every time my fuel gauge gets to 1/2 a tank and goes off when i get under a 1/4 tank
All of the following in this review happens at all times. when in motion, stationary, all driving conditions and all times of day and night. overhead console on truck where led courtesy map/reading lights have issues. light flickers and dims when on. it makes interior visibility near impossible. upon inspecting the unit the wiring going to the lights and sun room are chaffed and pose as a fire hazard and or equipment failure if shortage occurs. rear third brake light seal deteriorates and lets water into the cab. this can rust out flooring and causes mold issues. ruins leather seats. also can deteriorate seat belts possibly as well as rust or cause weakness in seatbelts for rear passengers. will severely damage and/or stain interior roofing, carpet, seat belts and/or seats. *tr
After driving my truck all day .. i came home and after 3 hours i wanted to go to the gym but my truck would not turn over.. i had to get a jump start but it never charged and wouldn't start once again... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while the vehicle was at a complete stop it accelerated independently. the instrument panel warning indicators and the interior lighting illuminated independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster and computer failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. updated 02/14/17*lj *cn
I had a big rain storm about 3 weeks ago that brought around 8 inches of rain into my area. there was a factory defect with the third brake light and satellite radio antenna seals that aloud water to enter the cab of the truck. everything in the cab of the truck was soaked. i had 6 inches on standing water in the compartments. when i drove the truck after 3 days of raining water began to pour out from the headliner onto the dashboard. dodge refused to do anything with the ram because it was 700 miles out of the warranty. a week after the storm, i started the ram to warm up one morning and when i went to get in the truck every warning light was on, it was beeping, i could to shift it into gear nor could i turn the truck off. once i stepped out of the truck it locked the doors with the truck still running and i could not unlock the doors for an hour later. usaa has total my ram out but chrysler has not taken responsibility for this issue. after researching online the leak is a huge problem dating back to 2004.
Theirs a lot of recalls they don't fix them and i'm scare of driving the truck.
All buttons on front right side of steering wheel (cruise control, gear+/-) have completely stopped functioning. vehicle has 44,000 miles, steering wheel wire harness was supposedly replaced a year ago under recall
I started the truck and noticed that the controls on the steering wheel for the radio and blue tooth did not work. i also noticed that the horn did not work. i can not scroll through the information center to check the tire pressure, speed, oil life or any other items in the information center. i also do not know if this issue affects the air bag being able to deploy. i can not reset the oil life after i change the oil.
Air bag light kept coming on. seen recall on my vehicle(15v-459), in regard to wire harness causing short in the electrical system. the dealer now state that the wire harness to the airbag has shorted out under the seat. costing approximately $401.00. could this be caused by the recall on 2014 dodge ram.
When driving the vehicle, the headlights blink (as if you are on a bumpy road). took to mack grubbs/columbia, ms for a recall issue and had them to look at lights. they told me they see that in a lot of those model trucks. i picked up my truck from the recall repair and was informed i owed $40 for diagnosis of the head light issue and that it would be $180 plus tax and labor to repair the passenger side and the same to repair the driver side. that is was a wiring harness issue. the service man told me and my husband that the is very common in the ram trucks. 1) that should mean a recall. 2) our truck was in our possession exactly 2 years, 1 day when we dropped it off for the recall issue to be fixed (which was about a week after i had them to diagnos the check engine/lights and was told of a recall and set up the appt). 3) we purchased an electrical insurance at time of vehicle purchase. i do not reccommend this vehicle to anyone! the lights blinking on/off as you are driving makes oncoming traffic blink their lights or think you are trying to stop them. not safe at all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that the electrical system warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per an unknown nhtsa campaign regarding the cam lock, but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the electrical system warning indicator illuminated after the recall repair was completed by zeigler chrysler, jeep, ram, dodge (3939 stadium dr., kalamazoo, mi 49008, (269) 375-4500). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 61,614.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. when the trailer lights were plugged into the outlet, they failed to operate intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
At a red light engine ideal went from 800 rpm to 1500 rpm then back to 800 rpm.after green light started to drive then the electronic throttle light came on. uncontrolled acceleration of the truck happen could not shut the engine off or get the transmission out of drive had to brake very hard and apply parking brake to stop the truck. had the warning light for electric throttle on the panel finally the light went out and the throttle respond normally. headed home when the same happen again with same results nearly had a accident from this. then the light went out with temporary lost of brakes and control of the truck.then the throttle responded normally until i got home and but the truck into park the warning light came on engine rpm accelerated to 2500 rpm until i could turn the engine off.
The radio controls so much of the vehicle components and systems and i am now on my third radio unit and still have electrical problems all over the vehicle and not sure if this is related. fuses blowning, bulbs blowing, etc.
Numerous electrical problems, blowing fuses, blowing light bulbs, and radio issues. i had to replace three fuses and have only had the brand new vehicle despite it was on the dealers lot with 5 miles on it when i test drove it. in a years time i have had to replace one head light build, one right brake tail light bulb. had to replace the three brake light due to leaking. i am getting ready to have the third radio replaced by dealer. the dealer has had to also work on the rear window twice which was leaking severally, and the dealer has also replaced the shark fin satellite antenna once. i am also starting to see driver's side window moving roughly not smooth as others three windows still are smooth operation. i have also had five recalls serviced and assumed to have been fixed or maybe they are causing these or other issues!
8 speed automatic shift knob is awkward & we have began exiting vehicle several times while running, but still in drive!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled, but was able to be restarted. the vehicle was taken to vancampen motors inc. (601 w 3rd st, williamsport, pa 17701, (570) 326-0567), but the cause of the failure was not determined. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 51,000.
There is a 1 to 2 second lag when pressing the horn button and when the horn actually sounds. with the lag, it is nearly impossible to sound the horn immediately when someone is encroaching into your lane or any other time when the horn needs to be sounded to prevent an accident. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. while attempting to park the vehicle, the engine seized and the electronic throttle control illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v459000 (air bags) and 15v517000 (electrical system, engine and engine cooling). the parts to do the repair were not available. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 123,000. parts distribution disconnect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer. after the vehicle received three recall repairs, it began experiencing various failures. the contact indicated that the dealer was notified more than five times and refused to provide a remedy to repair the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the instrument cluster failed to work causing various warning indicators to randomly flash while the vehicle was in operation. there was also a steering failure in which the cruise control failed to work and water entered the vehicle due to the seals not being correctly installed after the recall repairs. the contact indicated that the failures were getting progressively worse. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the nhtsa campaign numbers were unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
The main headlamps stopped working while i was driving on the highway at night. i had to play with the knob to at 70mph in the dark to make them work again. they malfunction when the switch is set to "auto." since then, the lights also turn themselves on intermittently when stationary in the middle of the night.

Received notice on 9/3/2015 about exhaust high frequency decoupler and notice on 10/9/2015 for battery wire harness. the dealer says they don't have parts. i received another notice on 1/20/2016 for same two problems. dealer says they have no parts. its been seven months and no word on parts.
I've owned 4 chrysler/dodge vehicles 98 avenger, 99 ram 1500, 03 300 m and now 2014 ram 1500 which everyone has had electrical issues. i have not put money into my new truck yet but have put thousands into other vehicles before i sold them for less than blue book just to be rid of all the issues. i bought my currant truck new in june 2014, i first began noticing glitches late summer 2015 and now there are electric surges, fault indicators that are fine and lights will not shut off killing my battery. i bought new this time assuming i would eliminate these issues but i was wrong, my truck has had no accidents of any sort and yet i have a $35,000 truck that's unreliable as well as unsafe. durning my research chrysler has been aware of this issue for decades and should be responsible for their lack of safety concerns for their customers. very disheartening as well as frustrating
3 recalls, side airbag inflatable curtain, steering wheel wiring, reprogram occupant restraint control module. contacted local dealer months ago; said they would call with an appointment time, as soon as they received the parts, i'm still waiting for the call- dealer was scranton dodge.
While no accident has occurred, in my opinion this is a significant safety issue. the uconnect system either becomes disconnected or has a poor reception while driving. it is very inconsistent in the way it performs. it creates a safety problem because when this occurs you naturally attempt to either reconnect or disconnect from the system creating a significant distraction. attempts by the dealer to fix the problem have been unsuccessful.
I have taken the vehicle to big o dodge in greenville, sc 3 times to have the problem of power loss. i have to get a boost each time to crank each day and the battery is good.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. while driving, the key came out of the ignition and the vehicle could still be driven without the key. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,880.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that the service engine warning light and various other warning lights randomly flashed several times. the contact also experienced a drastic reduction in speed and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer more than three times for various repairs and they were not able to provide a permanent remedy for the condition. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
With around 14000 miles on my truck i was driving home and was alerted that my front left blinker was burnt out, moments later i was notified that my right front blinker was burnt out. a few miles down the interstate from that i was notified that my right fog light had burnt out. i was going to take my truck in the next day (monday morning). before heading to the dealership i inspected my front lights to find that my front driver's side headlight was out also. i waited until the sun came up and prior to heading to the dealership i checked the lights again. all were working so i didn't take my truck to the dealership (monday mid-morning). tuesday morning the cycle repeated itself getting notified first of the left front blinker, then the right front blinker, then the fog light. i saw no reflection from the tail light blinker as well. my truck is currently at the dealership getting checked. *tr
Purchased this truck in december 2014. the mileage is 23,800 as of 4/7/2016 date miles problem 2/7/15 2245 check engine light came on (grill shutter broke) 2/17/15 2756 software update needed on transmission 10/24/15 15992 airbag recall 1/16/16 19975 idler pulley started squealing (replaced) 4/7/16 23,800 check engine light came on oil pressure sensor bad (replaced)
On 12/13/2014, i purchased a new, 2014 dodge ram 1500 in san antonio, texas. on 01/23/2015, after accumulating 1000 miles on the odometer, i triggered the key fob to unlock the vehicle only to have the entire electrical system fail. i could not start the vehicle no matter what i tried. i notified dodge and had the vehicle towed to the dealership on 01/24/2015. after several visits to the dealership and numerous telephone calls, i could not receive any definitive answer as to what was being diagnosed or done to fix the problem. eventually, i had to open a case file through dodge customer service. they too, were met with the same uncertainty and could not provide any additional information. after 40 days in maintenance and a great deal of acquired stress, the vehicle was finally returned in working order. the cause ? a faulty, total integrated power module (tipm). upon further investigation of this unit i have come to find that (1) chrysler is aware of this issue, (2) there is a national backorder for tipm?s stretching months, and (3) legal action is pending. due to the circumstances that i had to endure, i no longer want this truck, nor do i trust its integrity. although the system failed at my home, it could have very well happened on the road and caused ?who knows what?. i am done with this vehicle. *tr
After pulling into my drive way with my adult son in the passenger seat i was rolling up to the garage with my foot on the brake pedal slowing down the truck. i stopped the truck completely, by pushing on the brake pedal harder, about 5 feet from the house. i reached down to rotate the shift dial to park, "p". after turning to "p" the truck engine started revving and the truck lurched forward, after initially being startled i looked down and saw the shift dial was at "p" and the engine was still revving. the truck then struck the corner of the house while i was almost standing up on the brake pedal trying to get it to stop. i turned the shift dial to reverse and back to park and the truck stopped revving and moving. then i backed away from the house. being a retired police detective the first thing i did was to check to see if the factory floor mat had dislodged and jammed into the pedals but it was properly hooked in place. after getting the trucks body damage repaired i had it towed to the dealer but they could find nothing wrong with the truck. i did notice that when i picked the truck up from the dealer there was a clicking sound under the dash when i rotated the shift dial from "r" to "p" that i do not recall hearing before. no clicking is heard when changing between any other gears.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that the crash avoidance system malfunctioned intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensors in the front and rear bumpers were defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was not provided. updated 06/01/17*lj *cn
