We have classified the 190 complaints from 2005 Nissan Titan about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
7/15/19 3:40 pm rush hour, began entering a state rd to cross both lanes, traffic traveling both directions posted 55 mph moved in a straight line halfway into oncoming traffic, but suddenly could not accelerate. had to quickly reverse to avoid tbone situation from both sides. scared me horribly. backed up more tried again to go forward before attempting to cross but the same thing happened. engine was revving at high rpms but truck would only move inches at a time in forward motion. so i traveled backwards in reverse the length of the whole street i was on to get back to my driveway and backed up my driveway where i parked and called for a ride from my hvac tech who was meeting me at my church to install much needed ac unit. only a couple days earlier, i had fluid leaking and took the truck in for repair, the tech informed me the transmission fluid and antifreeze tank had failed. the engine needed to be flushed, the tank, radiator and fluid replaced. he told me it happened all the time with nissans. i will attach invoice from highly reputable repair shop.
While driving on the interstate the rear differential of my truck gave out and started smoking. i lost all power to control the momentum of the truck, almost causing it to flip because i was in the middle of changing lanes while driving 73 mph. i managed to coast to the side of the road and upon inspection of the passenger side rear axle i found all fluid had leaked out onto the rear wheel and it was smoking. i tried putting the truck in gear to see if i could move but there was no power being provided to the drive train. the only possible explanation is that the rear differential gave out. the truck only has 91006 miles on it and if this had occurred on one of the curves i and my family would all be in the hospital right now. the truck is currently parked at a repair shop awaiting repairs.
I was driving on the highway when my nissan titan 2005 started shaking while driving on a modern traffic. i suddenly started losing control of the truck and thank god i manage exit the freeway with the speed i manage to control. i pull over to the right and tried to find out what was wrong. my truck didn't want to turn on and i had 1/4 of gas left so it was imposible i needed gas after trying different methods, i walked to the nearest gas station, bought a gallon of gas with its proper fuel container and added to my truck then it turn on. i contacted my nearest nissan dealer and they fixed 2 recalls that my truck already had but they didn't want to fix my main problem which is the fuel pump. and i read many nissan titan 2005 are having this problem, i found the recall number (10v074000) which the dealer i attended didn't want to fix it. it's been a bad experience because i could of crash and it couldn't gone worse due to my gas not been correctly plus i missed work and it's just putting stress on me i need this fix thank you
Front differential has axle popped out, after researching i have found that this is such a common problem that nissan has redesigned the front differential to correct the issue. i have two options, first to take to a shop and have them replace the c clip only to fail again down the road or second to replace the front differential with the flawed design for over $2500. would like to see nissan issue a recall to correct the flawed design. this truck is used on road only and i only engage the four wheel drive when it snows and only use at low speeds for a short distance, this should not happen.
I was driving my truck on a main road and stopped at a stop sign and when i went to accelerate my truck was barely moving, unless i put the pedal to the ground. the truck went into limp mode and after looking into it, the codes p1757 and p1759 came up for the front break solenoid valve and after examining the tcm, i noticed the pin snapped for the front break solenoid, hence making the truck go into limp mode. i researched this problem and noticed that multiple 2005 nissan titans have had the same problem of this pin snapping causing the truck to go into limp mode because the solenoid receives now power. i was turning onto a main road where the speed limit was 35 so i accelerated thinking it would do so normal and make it before an oncoming car was coming, when the truck was slowly moving in front of the incoming car, i had to quickly put the truck into reverse to avoid the on coming car because i was excepting to make the turn before the car would come but the truck going into limp mode cause the truck to take much longer to barely make that turn. i was lucky to reverse quick enough for i do not know if the incoming car would have stopped or slowed down in time.
I noticed oil in my driveway. however, i was unable to locate the source initially. the last incident i returned home from work. as i was about to leave, i noticed more oil on the ground. i started looking under my truck again. this time i found excessive amounts of oil on the rear driver side tire. i took my 2005 nissan titan to the repair shop. upon completion of their inspection, i was given a copy of nissan's service bulletin reference #ntb10-032 2004 - 2008 titan, rear axle seal leaks. their listed required action is to "install the new axle shaft assembly---which includes a new retainer, axle bearing, oil seal, bearing cage, and abs rotor---listed in the parts information table". immediately below action is a note which states "do not replace the entire rear axle assembly for this incident, if it should occur". i contacted nhtsa who then referred me to nissan @ 800-647-7261. once in contact with nissan, the representative asked for the last six numbers of the vin, placed me on hold, and after a few minutes she came back and referred me to my initial point of contact. this should be a recall, not just a service bulletin. it would be very tragic to hear of a fatality as a result of a faulty product. reading the many reviews from titan owners it is evident the part is a defect and should be treated as such.
The axle shaft on the front differential came out causing failure to the front differential
I have both left and right rear axle seals requiring replacement due to severe leaking. dealer estimate at $600.00. i have read forums regarding this issue and it appears to be just short of a recall? 2005 nissan titan 2wd with 84,000 miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power while at a stop. there were no warning indicators illuminated. a local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 134,000.
I was pulling out of a parking space at work when i heard the first clunk. then later on that day i was turning to the left it clumped again now when going staight it clunk had and then i drained the oil and gas metal teeth from the spider gear was in the oil. it all started when i was moving at 10mph or les.
The front drivers side axle keeps falling out of the transfer case. i believe due to a c-clip failure. this happens when the truck is in motion and the steering wheel is turned.
Complete transmission failure due to faulty radiator design. coolant mixed with atf, from internal transfer cooler leak.
The transmission stopped working while driving on highway suddenly; the rpm's revved up accessibly to 3000-4000 without going into gear. after i immediately pulled over i witnessed fluid spewing all over my engine, out on the sides of my vehicle, and under hood.
I was recently driving my truck down interstate i-95 in philadelphia when i out of no where i heard a low pitched howeling noise, i was passing threw a construction zone so i couldn't pull onto the shoulder and look for a issue. a few seconds later i hear a loud series of thumping and my truck in the blink of an eye is traveling sideways at round 45mph, i swerved and missed several cars and managed to just miss the guard rail and come to a stop. if i was traveling anything over 45mph, it wouldn't have been pretty for a lot of people. i then inspected the vehicle to find that the rear axle had locked up the rear wheels and the drive shaft had torn out of the rear axle. do to the rear wheels suddenly becoming locked, made the truck near impossible to steer and very dangerous when you consider the size of the vehicle. i had it towed to find that the rear axle had filled with moisture do to a defect in the seal & vent of the set up. i have come to find out that this is a common issue in the nissan titan world.
Real axle seal leak. nissan does not recommend replacing the seal but says there is a problem with the axle and to replace axle. if nissan knows the axle is faulty and requires the axle to be replaced instead of just replacing the seal then they should be responsible and pay for the fix under a recall.
I back out of my driveway, stopped the truck completely, shifted from reverse to drive and as soon as i touched the accelerator pedal i herd a loud pop and then violent grinding. i shifted my truck to 4x4 to pull it off the road where it is still just setting waiting to be repaired. *tr
Rear differential failed. rear seal and e locker failed
When i put vehicle in drive, it would only go in reverse. i discovered the linkage from the gearshift lever to the cable had separated. the plastic retaining ring on the shift cable had broken to pieces and left nothing to hold the cable to the shift lever. this is potentially extremely dangerous as a driver could move lever to park and think he is actually in park when the transmission is engaged. someone getting out of the vehicle while it is still running will then have a runaway vehicle. local nissan dealer had no replacement part. i installed a retaining ring and clip. the fix costs pennies and just a few minutes time. *tr
As i was reversing to back out a parking spot i felt a hard thud looked under and around truck didn't see anything it started snowing and i had to use my 4wheel drive and it would not engage the indicator said it was in 4wheel drive but the front wheels would not turn took it a transmission shop they told me my left front axle popped out of the differential which is a common problem with the titan i found several complaints about this and the same way my truck axle popped out and same side called nissan and they wont fix this problem its very costly and dangerous some people front diff blew apart i think something needs to be done a recall or something it can cause a accident. *tr
This is the second differential put into truck since july 2014. the first one was within 30 days of purchase at 65,000 and the second one at 80,000 costing $3800.00. the truck is back in for repair within 5 days since and back brakes are not working properly. waiting to hear from mechanic. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan titan which i purchased used at 23,000 miles. two years ago (2013) i heard a loud noise coming from the front differential. i took it to a mechanic and i was told that the u-joints failed which cost $1400 dollars. now, march 2015, i again heard a loud noise coming from the front differential. i found that the right axle had popped out. i took it to a mechanic and i was told that the front differential failed which cost $2300 dollars. i was told by my mechanic that both of these incidents could have caused me to crash and that i was lucky. i have had several other issues with this vehicle (fuel pump, brakes, exhaust system). i was also contacted by an attorney who informed me that he was conducting a law suite and wanted to know what issues i have had. the attorney informed me that my vehicle was deemed a "lemon" by the first owner. *tr
Rear seal completely failed while driving causing differential oil to saturate the rear brakes. *tr
Front axle popped out, causing fluids to drain. differential failure. *tr
While traveling at approximately 70 mph on a us highway, the vehicle began to vigorously shake and a loud clanking noise began from the rear of the vehicle. suddenly there was a loud banging noise coming from underneath the vehicle. upon exiting the vehicle as it came to a stop, i noticed that the rear drive shaft had fallen off. when attempting to load the vehicle on a wrecker, the rear wheels wouldn't roll. the entire rear differential and axle had seized. *tr
While pulling our boat out from boat ramp in 4lo and a loud noise came from diff. when i arrive home 25min later in the drive way i noticed gear oil from passenger side. under truck i noticed where leak was coming from and pushed the axle back and it stopped leaking. i drained and removed shaft assembly side diff and replace seal and refilled gear oil. on the next trip we noticed gear oil leak came home did research and noticed this is known problem purchased the circlip thinking that was the problem but after last night noticed the shaft broke where the circlip was suppose to be. looked down the diff housing and noticed the other piece of the shaft nub stuck inside. estimate $2500 for diff replacement to 38500-8s112b or $825 to replace shaft and gear. 3rd time i've ever used 4 wheel drive!!!! *tr
This is a common issue which it documented on many online nissan titan / armada forums. the front axle has separated from the differential housing causing loss of gear fluid and lack of driveability. *tr
Front differential has failed, sever cracking in the housing. loud whine/grumble is heard when in both two wheel drive and four wheel drive. all lubricants have been serviced under manufacture recommendations. after reviewing online, i see this has been a common problem for nissan titans. *tr
I noticed that the transmission oil cooler hoses were leaking oil onto the ground. if hose were to burst, this would cause severe damage or accident. nissan has a sealed transmission that does not allow you to check transmission oil level. must be taken to dealer to check level. *tr
Defective rear axle/differential. i noticed that oil was leaking at both hubs of the rear axle. dealer said that entire rear axle needs to be replaced. the differential has been maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. i believe this is a serious safety concern as the axle could lock up while driving. *tr
Rear end gave out at 5 mph. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. the contact stated that after inspecting the rear of the vehicle, axle fluid was discovered leaking from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the rear driver side axle seal had ruptured causing the fluid to leak out. the axle was repaired and the failure was remedied. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 75,000.
Driver side axle shaft pop out of front differential and the front differential no longer works. *tr
Rear passenger side axle began to leak and fluid went onto brakes. *tr
Meineke just informed me 5/23/2014 that i have a cracked manifold on my nissan, titan. i've already had the direct fit converter/passenger side replace, (catalytic converter) muffler and tail pipe replaced for 1,379.00. and this manifold is going to cost about the same. i noticed a lot of folks complaining that their 2004-2005-2006 manifolds cracked?? [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I first felt and heard a loud clanking noise coming from the rear end while accelerating from a stop light. approximately 30 seconds later i felt it again while entering the on ramp to a freeway going approximately 25 mph. i pulled over and inspected the rear end of my truck and found no visible damage or leaking of fluids. i got back in my truck and started to accelerate and immediately felt and heard the clanking noise again. i then drove straight to the nissan dealership which fortunately was only two miles away. the nissan service department did an inspection and determine the gears in differential were binding. the nissan technicians were unable to determine why a differential with only 53,000 miles that was maintained as well as mine was would fail. the nissan dealership has performed all the maintenance on my truck and are well aware of how well its maintained. they suggested its a defect and recommended i speak with nissan usa directly in hopes of them covering the replacement of the defective differential on my truck. i spoke with a representative from nissan usa and they informed me that because my truck is out of warranty, the defective differential its not going to be covered. the worst part is that there is no replacement parts for the differential. i have to replace the whole rear axle. this is a cost of (axle) $3500.00 +( labor) $1000.00. lets not forget taxes also. nissan is aware of the defective differentials and is counting on people to not make the effort to bring this issue to light. please help make a change before someone gets seriously hurt by this defect. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, there was a consistent ticking noise from drive shaft. the vehicle was not taken for inspection or diagnosis. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 122,000.
While doing a liquids check i noticed the coolant reservoir was low. i added distilled water to the radiator and looked underneath to look for a leak. i found coolant leaking from the transmission line at the bottom of the radiator. as i backed into my garage, i heard the coolant reservoir pressurize and start to overflow. the reservoir was filled with tranny fluid. i drained the transmission and found coolant in the transmission. i don't know how many miles i drove the vehicle in this condition but i'm afraid the transmission is damaged and i can't get the coolant completely out of the transmission. i've drained and filled it twice so far and still have signs of coolant. i talked to a local dealer and they recommended that i keep draining and flushing until the tranny fluid comes out the same color as it went in. *tr
Right exhaust manifold crack. every forum on titan's complain how the exhaust manifolds crack and leak well before their time and all been under 100k. it tells me nissan does a poor job making that part and it's a costly job for customers to repair. this should be a recall item. *tr
When i stepped on the brakes to start stopping, it didn't feel like it was grabbing and i really had to stand on the pedal to stop before i hit the car in front of me. when i got home, i looked at all my brakes and found that the rear axle seal on the driver's side was leaking. grease/oil was all over the rear brakes. i have had the seal replaced 3 times now. this is ridiculous and is a safety hazard. the dealer wants $1800 to do it again!! we need a recall. *tr
The transmission won't go into the lower gears and it revs at a high rpm and won't shift. i have seen where there has been a lot of trouble with this transmission due to a coolant that leaks into the transmission. i contacted the local nissan dealer and he says there is help out there for frontier and some others but the titan isn't protected. after searching the internet, there are a lot of titan owners that are having/had this trouble that have the same model as myself. *tr
Rear differential failure while driving 25 mph. had to have complete replacement of rear end at cost of $3000. i have seen multiple complaints of same issue. appears to be a manufacture defect. nissan does not allow replacement of parts only replacement of whole rear end unit. *tr
When taking off from a stop light and accelerating from 0-30mph my rear end made a terrible banging noise and i lost power to the drivetrain. i spent $4500 to replace the rear end. the entire rear differential exploded. i have never misused this truck and only tow my boat about 30 miles 5-6 times a year. all fluids are properly maintained and were at appropriate levels when the shop repaired. in researching online it appears that the nissan titan has an issue with the rear differential in a 2005 having high failure rates. *tr
I took my truck to an oil change and they notice that the rear differential was leaking oil on the right side they told me that the seals are broken so i took it to the dealer to be fixed. when i got home look it up in the internet and it i find out that this happens quite often and i think that nissan should do something to correct this problem because differential fluid can get into the brakes and this is a safety issue. *tr
My vehicle has problems with the transmission was replaced and then my 3.6 final driveline rear end gave me problems so far i have spent over 4500.00 to repair transmission and solve leaks to my vehicle now dealer tells me i need to spend 3000.00 to fix their defect. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, there was a loud noise as the rear wheels seized. the contact noticed that the differential was fractured and had become separated. the vehicle was towed to a private repair shop however, the cause of failure was not determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was not reported to the manufacturer. the failure and current mileage was 80,000.
Right and left rear axle seals leaking. common problem, expensive to fix! i have already replaced left rear seal once at 50,000 miles. now both are leaking at 77,000 miles! *tr
I'd like to know if some sort of recall on the nissan titan pick up can be looked into regarding a rear axle seal leak. it appears that many of the vehicle owners are experiencing a similar problem costing consumers nearly $300-$500 in rear/replacement of a $15 seal. due to the intricate repair, many do it yourselfers are unable to perform this repair. please advise. thank you for your time. *tr
Rear differential failure, leaking transmission cooler line, left rear shock failure. dealer cost to perform repairs quoted at $ 4,100.00. chose not to repair, dealer accepted vehicle as part of trade-in for 2013 nissan titan. i would have driven this vehicle much longer if repair costs had not been so high. *tr
Front drivers side axle popped out of differential and began leaking. problem occurred when turning the wheel into a driveway. have read several people having this issue and the problem well known with the manufacturer. problem should be recalled and fixed. *tr
Nissan titan le 2005 4x4. the rear differential failed. the rear seal failed and caused damage to the ring & pinion gears. the rear end smells burned and leaked fluid all over the undercarriage. upon doing research of the nissan titan truck, this is a common problem of the rear ends failing. it is a very expensive repair. nissan is aware of the failures. they have been selective regarding repairs. they sometimes fix out of warranty failures though there are many trucks both under warranty and out of warranty with failing rear ends. *tr
