We have classified the 122 complaints from 2008 Nissan Rogue about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
We took the vehicle into vavoline and they told us that the car's transmission pan is almost rusted out and we have a 4 major leaks under our vehicle so bad that the block under the vehicle and the front axel is wet from the fluid leaks. we bought the car two days ago and brought it back to return it today because we were not told about any of these issues and they told us we were not going to get our money back. even though it would not pass a state emissions test with all those leaks and she not have been sold to us.
I have a 2008 nissan rogue. have had it less than a year. 3 days ago, without warning, the transmission started shaking and jerking when i was taking off from a red light on the way to take my daughter to school. pulled off the highway and sat a couple mins, since i wasnt sure what was happening. as i tried to pull back onto the highway the rogue wouldnt go. had to have it towed back home. had a technician put my vehicle on a computer. the transmission is out of it.
Started vehicle and drove well. stopped at an intersection and when it was my turn to go car rpms were high but car wouldn't move. the light change and i found myself in the middle of the intersection and car would not move. i took my foot of gas and then it just sped up and i had to use the breaks to make it slow down. also it would slowdown in the middle of the highway which is dangerous cause speed limit was 70mph and i couldn't move the car to get it out of the way.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the vdc and traction control indicators illuminated prior to the failure. once restarted, the vehicle resumed normal operation. also, while making turns, the steering wheel made a strange sound. the vehicle was taken to faulkner nissan of harrisburg (3925 paxton st, harrisburg, pa 17111, 717-558-8220) where it was diagnosed that the electronic coupling failed. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 36672455. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Bought car in 2012 with 64,000 miles. in october of 2017 , with 121,000 miles noticed a grinding noise when taking off took to nissan dealership , was informed that transmission was bad. replaced transmission for $3700. in june of 2019 with 138,000 miles started having a vibration in the front when taking off in between 1500 and 2500 rpm was told that transmission was severely damaged in the inside, the pump was not working and metal shavings. i am without a job and had to take my severance pay to pay $4,107 to replace another transmission. that did not include the right tie rod that i constantly have to replace which seems to go out every year. fixing both lower control arms and the rear suspension at over $1200.00 the week before the transmission. this car is well taken care of oil changes every 3,000 miles and constant upkeep.
Driving on a busy expressway, there was suddenly a loud clanging under the chassis. i started driving slowly and again there was an extremely loud banging against the chassis. pulled of the expressway when the car suddenly started slowing down. when i started to pull into the first minimall i could find, the car started moving backwards and none of the gears would work. could not take my foot off the brake as the car continued to go reverse into traffic. finally after getting assistance from several people helping me get the car into the parking lot, i was able to be towed to my garage, where it was discovered that the drive shaft had broken off, knocking off a piece of the od sensor and then knocked out the exhaust pipe which then snapped off the shift assembly cable and all the gears. my mechanic has never seen anything as bad as this. the car is completely undriveable and i shudder to think what could have happened to my family and myself as we could have been killed. currently my car is still at the mechanic's where he is waiting for a decision from me as to what to do with the car which will cost $3,000 to repair which is what the trade value is on the car and what the car was worth. now it is junk
Vehicle runs o k at first, after 6 or 7 stops at lights or stop signs or for other reasons, when you step on the gas there is no response, the engine is still running, but the car wont go, sometimes it will hesitate and then take off quickly, which is also dangerous.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle jerked when the accelerator pedal was depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the continuous variable transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
Cvt transmission failure. at 86000 miles. i was on street and heard a grinding noise and it just popped. it lost power no acceleration. i luckily coasted to a dirt road where as soon as i turned it stopped. would not go. had it towed to dealership where they've had for 7 days so far. i'm out 445$ on rental car so far. they pay for transmission but 300+ other stuff i have to pay. so i'm out 800+ $ frankly i dont really have. i know could be worse but this is unexpected $ i had to pay plus keep up on regular bill's. not right.
I have just recently noticed a bad vibration with my nissan . it shakes like your driving over rumble sticks. even when your at a full stop and give it some gas the rumble effect happen right away from a full stop. idk, what the problem is. please help! once you get up to 30 mph the vibration goes away. slow down make right/left turns boom the vibrations of the rimble sticks right there. something is wrong.
Takata recall i've been hearing many complaints about the transmission on these vehicle i never believed it until it happened to me. i have an 2008 nissan rogue and one day while driving i herd a loud bang sound after that the vehicle stoped moving. come to know it the transmission problem that i have been hearing happened to my vehicle too. the transmission is frozed up vehicle wont move and i cant afford to fix or even buy a new transmission. please if possible i need nissan to consider this and fix it the vehilce only has 118,000 miles and i need my vehicle to work to transport from school and work.
Takata recall, the nissan i purchased from fuccillo nissan in latham, new york, was defective with every issue, however nissan refuse to honor any recalls. their most recent extended warranty, indicates a replacement of the evap canister and tubing, however upon arriving at the nissan dealer he told e my car was old and it only covers the tube. the nissan manufacturer is a joke, i dealt with a woman who literally failed to inform me that nissan never reported that i was the new owner of the car. hence last year my car literally rolled backwards while i attempted to drive up hill, right into traffic , potential to be a deadly accident , noting the variety of complaints i believe that their waiting for someone to die. fucillo nissan refused to replace the transmission, instead the sealed it . two weeks later the same thing happened on the highway, and of course they refused to fix it trying to explain, how a cvt transmission works, and then he went as far as saying i have to get used to it. nissan is a joke and as long as they could get away with selling defective cars and not honoring their very own recalls they will, billy fucillo needs his licence snatched, their a bunch of crooks, whom are dangerous to the public.
Nissan rogue 2008 was bought in 2008 since beginning during uphill drive in summer car starts stalling on freeway. this prompted nissan to change cvt on 10/15/2013 and again on 10/10/15. it looks like cvt is getting heated with no cooling support. on a highway , vehicle starts loosing power and putting occupant of the vehicle in danger.
Driving in summer our 2008 nissan rogue list power going up hills. we lost power and car slowed down. stalked our once. we were doing highway driving
Transmission is failed now and not operating.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph and failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact also stated that the horn seized, and the air bag, evap, and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to destination nissan (770 central ave, albany, ny 12206, 518-438-8461), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures and denied the claim for the transmission. the failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Driving back from seattle area, car was on hwy 2 in washington state, when it stopped forward movement. engine still running, but no forward movement, and fluid and smoke commimg out of rear end. barely got to a safe spot and pulled over. called insurance co. for tow. had hours of trying to get a tow after hours. took car (on a car carrier ) to my mechanic. he diagnoses it as transmission. he states it needs a whole new transmission. have only 117953 miles on it. maybe still under nissan warrenty...maybe.
Passenger airbag does not work, transmission won't work properly. very sluggish start and stuck in gear.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly failed to accelerate. while driving at a high rate of speed, the vehicle slowed down without warning. the dealer (faulkner nissan, 3925 paxton street, harrisburg, pa 17111, (717) 558-8220) performed several diagnostic tests and repairs per tsb: 0918a, such as replaced the valve body assembly per a consumer affairs case, replaced the continuously variable transmission (cvt) control valve assembly, one coolant ring, one gasket, the oil pan seal lip, reset the fluid level, and other repairs; however, they failed to provide a permanent remedy. in addition, it was stated that the tsb: 14002a repair of the oil cooler kit and the accelerator pedal assembly needed to be replaced. the contact informed the dealer that the vehicle was included in the cvt warranty extension; however, the dealer indicated that the repairs were not related. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and stated that the dealer failed to provide a permanent remedy. the manufacturer had not issued a transmission recall, but issued eight tsbs for the power train. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 90,449.
Car was making noise, had nissan diagnose it and was found to be tranmission

The car loses power due to cvt malfunction after driving for 40 minutes on highway. thecar will not go past 50-55. also will not move after stopping after driving on highway.
Vehicle goes into limp mode without a warning indicator. will not go above 2500 rpm in top gear. this comes and goes and only happens in high gear. this was twice in one day on a highway. it stopped after the vehicle stopped and rested for a few minutes. the lower gears work normal.
Years back iwe have driove our nissan 2008 to a trip to reading ca we just have bought the car from a dealer in hayward handa. while we were in the hill car could change gear or power we were driving 65 to 70 mpr and went down to 20 on the freeway. very dangerous specially pooling over and have the car relax this was when the car had only 70,000 miles . we later received a letter from nissan that need to recall and update computer .we took it in and my husband complained to them that it was making a noise when we accelerated and he also mention the first trip and said to us everything was okay . we never had a problem after that my husband only drive it to work and home. we recently took car to oregon same route reading and as jew are hitting the hill same problem happen. i investigated it this happen to this car and a lot of other customers that have this car have the same problem call cusrtservice and refer us to consumer afffair we are now speaking to a cosumer affair representative they made us pay twice a diagnostic in oregon now in california and i'm pending what they are going to do or help me with this car. my car now has 123000 they have a extended their warranty to 120000 . my problem with nissan is that they know about this problem we have taken the car in into their dealership before they said it was fine and if i knew about there extended warranty i would have taken my car in. now the second diagnostic in california that i have to pay 160 they said that i need new transmission and pending in how they going to help me. this not only it was dangerous because i have my 8 month daughter and my son in the car and have it stop and only go 20 mpr in a highway where trucks are passing fast. and also stop every 20 min in the side of the road to let car cool down. i hope they can do something before a family loses there life for a neglected car that nissan
The transmission on my 2008 nissan rogue is failing due to overheating.the overheating causes the transmission to fail and the vehicle loses power. i've been told that even if i replace the transmission, at $4000, the new one will likely fail as well. i'm told that the transmission is overheating because the cooling fan is not powerful enough. i'm also being told that this is a known issue with nissan but they will not provide a cheaper fix in order to profit from nissan owners getting stuck with a bill for $4000 for a new transmission. $4000 is quote from aamco transmission replacement for 2008 nissan rogue. please provide more economic solution.
I got this car from my daughter in may. this problem started in june, stopped for a while & now in winter (january) it came back & is getting worse to the point i won't drive on freeway anymore. decelerates at freeway speeds combined with jerking motion. also does not always accelerate (dogs out) while pressing on gas from complete stop or trying to accelerate in slow traffic causing cars behind to slam on brakes.
Our car initially would not accelerate from the lights, seemed like it would not go into gear. thankfully we were able to get off the road as it was on ca 99 , a pretty busy road. after a restart it seemed fine, until the next day when we were driving home to south lake tahoe. the transmission went into limp mode and would not go over 3000rpm, particularly dangerous as we were driving up a mountain road at night . since then we have driven it very little, but it jolts regularly while driving. this is the second time we have experienced such symptoms and the second transmission in this vehicle. the original transmission was replaced at 69273 miles, vehicle now has129000.
After driving for a while, my nissan cvt transmission stops working properly. when i take off from a stop at a light or intersection, the car initially takes off for a few feet, but then the transmission stalls, and the car literally creeps through the intersection at a snails pace. very dangerous when it occurs in a busy intersection. you do not know it is happening until you are already in the intersection as it feels normal when you first hit the gas, and then it goes into what is best described as a very low gear. someone is going to die from this. nissan is aware of this issue and extended its warranty on the cvt to 10 years and 120,000 mile, but never issued a recall that i am aware. unfortunately, this issue did not occur with my vehicle until after the mileage stated. it may have to do with transmission fluid temperature and a fail safe mode. there is discussion of such on the internet.
Takata recall i was driving down the highway and stop for the red light, the light turned green and i went to pull into the intersection for a left turn and my car would not move. i was lucky i was not rear ended by the cars behind me. i had my car towed to the dealer. the diagnosis was internal transmission failure. i also had the same diagnosis back in 2013 with a whistling and knocking sound. it was called a cvt problem but in 2013 it was still under extended warranty so a new transmission was put in free of charge. this time i am ask to pay for a transmission out of pocket that i know is defective and it will cause a serious accident one day. my car is at hudson nissan charleston sc 29406 with a price tag of $5101.00.
I live in the denver area, and my daughter is in college in utah. she complained for the last several months while in school that the car would sporadically just stop accelerating. she also said she had not changed the oil in a while, so i thought that's what her problem was. she then changed the oil, and continued telling me that it would just stop accelerating, and she said she was scared to drive it, because she felt she would get into an accident. her school is in south central utah, and the closest nissan service center was 100 + miles away, so i recommended she take it to the local mechanic, who filled it with transmission fliud. i then told her to take it to the nearest transmission shop, (provo, 100 + miles away), and he told us about the nissan cvt transmission issues, and it would be $3900 to replace. the car now has 123,900 miles on it. after researching, and finding out that nissan extended the warranty to 120,000 miles, which i knew that the car was over the warranty, but decided to have it towed to ken garff nissan, nearby. the verdict, replace the cvt transmission at my expense, for $4600. i told the technician that what's the use of paying that much money, and then have the same problem happen again. he explained that now they also install a cvt cooling unit, which is suppose to fix the problems. i let him know that that's what nissan should have originally done, recall the transmission, and install the cooling unit. i immediately called nissan consumer affairs, and filed a complaint. they called the next day, (today), and said they could not do anything, and closed the case! the investigator said that this only happened in the rouges from 2003 through 2010. i let him know that that was not true, and is happening to several other models with the cvt transmission, up to 2015! he said there was nothing they could do but to put me in a new vehicle!
After highway driving when stopped at a traffic light vehicle has no power upon resuming driving
It's been going on for a year now. the dealership i bought the car from couldn't figure out the problem. the car revs up with no applied acceleration. it will slow down to 45 mph and i'll have to pull off the road cut it off and restart the car and it'll straighten out for another 30-45 miles and repeat. it's pretty dangerous bc the first time it happened i was on the interstate. i've read a lot of forums and it seems to be an ongoing problem in most nissans. not just the rogue. i feel as if this problem should be on immediate recall.
The 2008 nissan rogue we purchased in march 2009 has experienced continual cvt transmission failures. the first failure was may 2009 and the cvt was replaced. the part was found to be malfunctioning after determining the vehicle was not shifting properly and was experiencing high rpms while driving. the cvt was replaced again in april 2014 after losing functionality in a potentially dangerous situation. the failure of the transmission occurred while traveling at high speeds on the expressway at which point the vehicle suddenly experienced heightened rpms, began decelerating and would not accelerate greater than 20mph. we safely exited the expressway at an approaching exit and coasted to a nissan dealership less than three blocks from the expressway exit. nissan recently alerted us that the current cvt transmission in our vehicle will need to be replaced again despite having only 20,000 miles since the replacement in 2014. nissan has declined to cover this faulty part in the vehicle and has offered instead to provide a longer warranty if we purchase a brand new vehicle instead. if the cvt fails in this vehicle, it will have been the third transmission during our ownership of the vehicle, requiring a fourth to be installed.
I was driving in highway conditions (55mph in 55mph zone) when the car suddenly decelerated and would not get above 30mph. cars behind me had to swerve around me in order to get around me with the sudden deceleration. i was able to make it off the highway & onto local roads. every time i had to accelerate after a stop light or stop sign, the car would not initially accelerate despite me pushing full down on the accelerator. this repeatedly almost resulted in my being hit by cars behind me. i was able to slowly make it home. i took the car to the dealer i bought it from, and was told that the cvt transmission had failed. i was also told that i am beyond the warranty extension (about 9,000 miles past the 120,000 extension), so i will be responsible for the cost of replacing the transmission. i don't understand why this has not been a recall with the # of complaints all about the same issue. also, if the manufacturer has extended the warranty, doesn't that mean they must be aware that it is a widespread problem?! it is so dangerous to be driving at 55 and suddenly without warning decelerate significantly. it is a wonder that no one has been hurt (& unfortunately probably only a matter of time before someone is). this appears to be widespread issue with this year & model of rogue.
Car will loose acceleration when driving on a flat highway for no known reason, it will go from 70 mph to 30 pmh and struggle to move. pressing acceslerator is like stepping on air. going up a slight incline car will loose acceleration, after 20-30 miles driven will loose acceleration, at stop signs, red lights will loose acceleration when going from brakes to acceleration nothing will happen car will not move. car has been driven less than 5k miles since purchased used from dealership. also cannot use overdrive mode, engine noise is very loud and grinding rough sounds are heard .if using cruise control acceleration issues plus engine sound will both turn up at same time. this is both highway driving, city street driving and always when car is in motion.
I was hearing & feeling a noise when accelerating and decelerating so i took my car in to the nissan dealers service center to see what was going on. they stated that my transmission and transfer case needed to be replaced. nissan has extended the transmission warranty to 120k miles but doesn't back the transfer case or anything else that relates to this know issue. they should be held liable for all issues concerning this matter.
Vehicle started with a whining noise which eventually was followed by loss of speed/power. acceleration after stopping was reduced to a crawl, also grinding noises and shaking and vehicle wanting to stall. i am now unable to drive as i am fearful of devastating consequences. this car was bought new and still owe $6500, and a new transmission running approx $3000 the expense does not make sense. nissan knowingly sold vehicles to consumers to fill they're pockets putting all at risk and fail to support the defective product!
My car had a lost power driving back from rocky mountain national park and i was forced to pull over and turn off my car it started up and i was able to make it back safe but i think it has something to do with the cvt. i really sucks and i don't feel safe driving my car right now.
Roar and grinding noise under car believe to be transmission / transfer case or both. drive good shifts good runs good. believe if something locks up in this , it could cause a accident by coming apart. checking it out found lots of other with same problem. if they know of the design problem look like they could correct or replace bad parts. look like nissan did not care about it or if it could cause an accidend and put out a bad design anyway. with all the complains on the web, looks like nissan just pushing it to the back and waiting on time to go by. this has been going on for about a year and half. just think it wrong!
Defective cvt transmissions i took my vehicle to dealer for an oil change and to have a light knocking coming from somewhere in engine checked. i paid for a diagnostic. i was told that the transmission was bad that i fell under the recall but not with current mileage 131,099. i was told i had to pay to replace cvt transmission. i hear the noise only when the vehicle is in motion not when it's stationary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced severe front end vibration without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was confirmed; however, the remedy was not provided. the vehicle was taken to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed new tires. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission was defective. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 115,000. the vin was not provided.
I have a 2008 nissan rouge i also have problems with tans going up hill its like it quits pulling and now the check engine lit is on and it want change like it should took it the dealer had it in the shop before twice and they said it fixed it was leaking fluid from the trans. and now this happens guest some one have to get heart or killed before some one makes nissan fixes the problems with the vehicles when they stop working they our a problem with it i see all of the complaints and still no one has done anything why.
I had a nissan rogue cvt transmission issue last year. our car had multiple acceleration issues that we got lucky we didn't have any accidents. one of many issue was on labor day weekend we decided to go on a vacation to relax after days and weeks of hard work at the office. again our vacation was cut short. it took us 6 hours to drive a 2.5 hour drive. i had to stop, let the transmission cool down and drive again with a speed of less than 50mph sometimes taking the streets to keep the speed down. i took the car to the dealer, under warranty, they wanted to do a few minor services. they told me that they had fixed the problem and that there wouldn't be any more issues. it happened again and again. finally, i opened a case through nissan and got my car a new transmission. the transmission has starting problems again and i am really tired of this. i got a call from my wife this morning that she was in the middle of the intersection waiting to make a left turn. she had loss of acceleration right in the middle of the intersection as the light turned red and and cars from the other side started to go straight to her honking their horn. she said that the car would not move and finally started to move very slowly. she was terrified and crying. i am really tired of this and really its unacceptable. our rouge is our only car and my wife drives it to and from work and it is at this point that i can not accept this issue anymore, it is a danger to my family. i have had it with this car.
Transmission safety issue - while driving on the highway my vehicle completely stopped pulling. we were in heavy traffic and my daughter was a passenger in the back seat. there was no warning before this happened, no warning lights at all! my daughter and i could have easily been seriously injured or killed.
On an out of town trip to hereford texas from ft. worth tx., vehicle would not go above 60 mph halfway to my destination. after several trips to the dealership, the transmission was replaced. transmissions is acting up again after 40k miles and cant be trusted to be on the road as the you can step on the gas all the way and speed will not exceed 60 mph. it seems to mess up when on longer drives of over 30 minutes when the transmission gets hot.
This is my second transmission the first one warrantee cover it but now i have no warrantee and the cost is about $4,000 this is not what i expected from a good company name. the vehichle was stationart when it happen it did not have power to move.
The cvt (continuously variable transmission on my car exploded when the seals failed (a defect common to these cars) going about 60 mph on the way through kansas to colorado. it almost caused an accident as it led to the car smoking and an extreme loss of speed while in traffic. nissan knows there are defects with this transmission and yet continue to put them in the nissan rogues.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan rogue. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle started to lose acceleration power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve body needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000. the vin was not available.
On a road trip from los angeles to las vegas, encountering normally hot temperatures, and after several hours of driving, the car lost power could only attain speeds of 50 mph or less up hills. this is a clear and present danger to the occupants when other cars are easily going 70 - 75 mph. if you pull off the road, the cars have a tendency to lurch forward and with dangerously poor acceleration. from reading the car forums, this is a known problem with this particular model, where the cvt transmission apparently over-heats and puts the car into "limp" mode. the fix has been to replace the transmissions and install an additional transmission cooler, however many dealers try to charge the customer for the cooler, and the nissan factory is now hesitant to replace the transmissions even though their longevity and reliability has undoubtedly been compromised if the over-heating problem was experienced. there should be a mandatory recall demanded by the ntsb before someone is killed or injured due to this lack of acceleration. the problem is difficult to reproduce at the dealer because it involves a multi-hour road trip and hills. this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed, please.
After 5 hours of operation, while climing upgrade near charlotte nc, vehicle slipped out of gear and lost power. this repeated over a series of inclines for the next 50 miles and nearly resulted in several rear end accidents. during these incidents, the vehicle both lost power and the cruise control unexpectedly shut off. local nissan dealer confirmed it was due to a known heat issue with cvt transmissions, and an advisory was out to inspect and advise when reported. nissan instructed an additional cooling appliance be added to keep the fluid cool so operation was normal. issue is this should be a recall based on assumption that any vehicle will drive at highway speeds for several hours and eventually have to encounter relativly easy upgrades on our highways. transmission failure under these circumstances is inevitable, and so will be potentially fatal or at least injury inducing incidents.
