Problems with 2005 Nissan Frontier FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2005 Nissan Frontier starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 63 032 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2005 Nissan Frontier

Fuel sensors in my fuel sending unit are bad . this has caused immediate loss of power on the highway ; as the fuel level reads quarter tank, but is actually empty. nissan just recalled some 540,000 ,2006 and up vehicles for the same problem, but excluded the first year of the second generation frontier models. it is easy to find hundreds if not thousands of complaints on the internet for the 2005 editions alone. nissan is clearly reluctant to take full responsibility for these defective sensors , and should include the 2005 models in this safety recall . thank you for your time. *tr

Fuel sending unit failed. *tr

I am getting a car code of p0463 which indicates that the fuel level sensor is malfunctioning in my 2005 nissan frontier. my gas needle dropped from 1/2 full to empty in a few seconds. i ran out of gas before i could get to a gas station. *tr

2005 nissan frontier crew cab upper fuel sending unit problem causing the service engine soon light to trigger and causes the gasoline fuel level gauge to move erratically and/or read inaccurately. *tr

Problem with fuel gauge on 2005 nissan frontier pick up truck. after filling tank, fuel gauge will drop to empty, turn on low fuel light, and turn on service engine soon light. after a day, the fuel gauge will begin working again (slowly returns to correct level) and eventually the service engine soon light will go out. process repeats every time vehicle is re-fueled. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. the contact stated that when she added gasoline to the fuel tank, the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed that the fuel gauge was not working properly. the contact had not called the manufacturer when the complaint was filed. the current and failure mileages were approximately 60,000. updated 6/3/10 *cn the consumer stated the gas gauge reads just below 1/2 tank. updated 06/17/10*jb

2005 frontier crew cab with 83k miles with p0463 error code. fuel gauge drops from 1/4 tank to empty. *tr

2005 frontier nismo with 55k miles with p0463 error code. fuel gauge drops from 1/4 tank to empty. *tr

I am joining the thousands of other nissan frontier owners that have a failed fuel sending unit. when i get to 1/4 of a tank, the gauge falls to empty and the low fuel light comes on. i fill it up immediately since i don't want the truck to stall like others have experienced. i only have 40k miles on my 2005 model. *tr

I had just picked my vehicle up from the dealership after having had them perform several repairs. after driving about 10 or 15 miles, and with approximately 1/4 of a tank of gas, the check engine light came on. i returned the car to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it would cost $463. i performed research online and found that there are numerous other car owners who have experienced the same problem. it appears that the unit will corrode after just several years of use. i also found that a similar problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled. however, although a service bulletin has been issued for 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders the cost of this repair is still being put on the customer. since this is such a wide-spread problem that includes an integral part of the car it should be addressed with a recall and the installation of a better designed unit. *tr

2005 nissan frontier fuel gauge & check service light. the check service light came on and the fuel gauge reading poorly+erratically. went on web and found this problem has been ongoing from previous years and models. there are hundreds of complaints on the web so there must be thousands who have been affected. the repair cost is $600 from the dealer, a cash cow. my truck has only 30,000 miles and been babied. i feel this is a planned design defect and a recall should be ordered. samuel baylus*tr

2005 nissan frontier. service engine soon light always on, and improper fuel gauge reading point to a bad fuel sensor unit. as this exact problem is all over nissan forums on the internet, it's obviously a defective part and needs a recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. in december 2009, he noticed, when filling the fuel tank, that the fuel gauge would give incorrect readings. it would show empty, then the correct reading and when the tank was half-full, would indicate another incorrect reading. he noticed the failure for a few months and then took the vehicle to the dealership. the dealer informed him that the failure was caused by the fuel gauge assembly, the packing fuel gauge was replaced at that time. he later filed a complaint with the manufacturer and was informed that his vehicle was not included in recall 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). the failure mileage was approximately 52,000. the current mileage was approximately 57,000.

2005 nissan frontier. when the fuel gauge reaches 1/2 tanks the gauge reads empty. the problem is a bad fuel sensor. after doing research online, there are many others with the same problem on the same vehicle. *tr

Why has there been no recall on nissan frontier pickup trucks? they have had thousands of complaints reported online about transmission failure due to cross contamination of transmission fluid and engine coolant due to a problem with the transmission cooler pipe design. this is a very common problem with these vehicles. also i have a failed gas gauge sending unit. again there are thousands of the same complaints online. there have been recalls on other vehicles for the same reason, yet not on the nissan frontier pickup. the recalls on others was issued because there would be false readings of fuel levels and a person could run out of gas in traffic and cause and accident. the same problem can occur with the nissan frontier because the gauge gives an inaccurate reading or shows empty yet there is fuel in the tank and the operator would have no idea if he is about to run out of gas or not. back to the transmission, the transmission can go out completely without notice due to the cross contamination. there is no way to no if there is a problem until it was to late. the transmission will fail and there is no way of knowing there is a problem unless you check the radiator periodically. that is the only way to find the problem with out having an actual breakdown. i have had to replace a radiator, have my transmission completely cleaned out twice to remove any coolant, and now my transmission has completely failed. i am asking fro an investigation into the nissan frontier problems and the numbers of the same complaints. i am sure there would be a basis for a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. the contact stated the fuel level indicator would read inaccurate fuel levels intermittently. the fuel level indicator would only read accurate levels when the fuel tank was full to capacity. he was able to locate a recall for the failure however when contacting the manufacturer, he was advised his vin was not included in the recall (nhtsa campaign id number 06v092000: fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the contact believed the recall should be expanded to include other potentially defective vehicles. the failure mileage was 78,000.

My fuel gauge stopped working after filling up with gas one day. the engine light came on and i had the code read which said fuel sensor. the gauge sometimes works and sometimes doesn't which caused us to run out of gas one day shortly after the malfunction occurred. fortunately we were on a quiet rural road at the time, if it had happened on the freeway with heavy traffic a serious accident could have occurred. the vehicle only has 55,000 miles on it and i see that this is a common problem well known to nissan. there needs to be a recall on this before a serious accident occurs. *tr

After fueling to a full tank, i noticed the gas gauge did not budge off the 1/4 mark for 20+ miles. ever-so slowly, the gauge finally read "f" but the check engine light came on. after diagnostics revealed the error code po463 and a bit of research/elbow grease, the problem came down to the fuel sensor unit. it seems that this is a common problem, with quite the number of complaints across the internet. this issue is constant after every fueling. worse, the levels are inaccurate and could cause damage to the fuel pump by running to empty. the only safe way i can operate my vehicle is by meticulously eyeing the odometer. my vehicle has less than 50k miles. i can only hope the warranty covers this faulty part, because my research indicates a cost of $300-$600 for repairs. *tr

Tl* the contact 2005 nissan frontier. the fuel gauge indicator was operating improperly, and the check engine light illuminated on the warning panel. he had a diagnostic performed, which indicated the fuel level sending unit failed. he had not yet spoken with the manufacturer to determine if they would be willing to take liability for any failures. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current was 64,000.

2005 nissan frontier, gas gauge is malfunctioning. when tank is filled gauge reads anywhere from empty to 3/4 full and check engine light is on continuously. took to mechanic who isolated the problem to the sending unit in the tank, repair would require tank removal and would costs hundreds of dollars. i could not afford, so have been using mileage to estimate fuel usage. when i heard about the recall nissan had for similar problems, i was surprised and disappointed that the cutoff was the 2006 model year. the recall should be for all units with the same problem. *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank nor my digital fuel sensor on the dashboard. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs old. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should be fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600." *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. whenever the contact would add gasoline to the vehicles capacity, he noticed that the fuel gauge would indicate that the tank was half full. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact had the float valve replaced. there were no prior warnings .the current and failure mileages were 63000.

Fuel level sending unit malfunctioned on nissan frontier 2005 and caused vehicle to run out of gas on interstate. cost to replace was 700 dollars from dealer. have not replaced yet. fuel gauge shows empty tank to half full regardless of actual gas volume residing in the tank. *tr

Fuel cell/gauge problem similar to reent recall however recall does not cover my nissan frontier model year...2005. *tr

My 2005 nissan pickup's fuel gauge has stopped working. the gauge no longer indicates gas in tank even when full. the service engine light is on and the reserve light is on. *tr

The fuel gauge sends different signals empty when full, when 3/4 and up the gauge drops to empty. there are thousands of claims regarding this issue, also with pathfinders, terras, please see this complaint and do something !!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. the contact stated after filing the vehicle with gasoline, the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. the fuel level indicator also would not adjust to show an accurate reading of fuel levels and remained on empty. after consuming approximately one-fourth of gasoline, the fuel level indicator then began to read fuel levels. the dealer advised there were no recalls on his vehicle and any repairs would be at the owners expense. there were no repairs made to the vehicle. the contact stated the failure would recur whenever the fuel tank was filled. the failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 64,000.

Nissan 2005 frontier fuel sending unit failure. this caused improper readings on the fuel gauge. why were 2006 > recalled and not 2005! replaced sending unit .

Nissan frontier 2007, fuel gauge erratic, not reliable, unsafe. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. after filling up the vehicle with gasoline, the contact noticed that the instrument panel light illuminated, which indicated that the vehicle was empty. there were no failures prior to this incident. the contact called the dealer and was informed that they were aware of the failure and advised her to bring the vehicle in for inspection. the vehicle has not been repaired or inspected. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. they further stated that they would call the contact back with an update after speaking with the dealer. the failure and current mileages were 55,000.

Gas gauge reads all over the place, check engine light comes on, won't pass inspection even though it has nothing to do w/emissions....ran out of gas on i-95 - almost run over. *tr

Fuel sending unit problem with my 2005 nissan frontier. causes fuel gauge to be non functional. basically there is no way to tell how much gas i have in my tank. problem started at 59000 miles, i now have 80000. nissan refuses to fix. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan frontier that has a fault code of po463. nissan has recalled the 2006-08 vehicles with this faulty fuel level sending unit. they are refusing to repair mine because it is a 2005 and are refusing to accept responsibility for an obvious defective part. there are hundreds of people like me with the identical problem that are having to spend in excess of $600.00. this is a serious safety issue as well. i have ran out of gas twice because i thought i had enough fuel when infact i did not. my son was driving it to college at college on august 21st when he thought he had fuel when the truck was empty. i'm afraid to think what would happen should the vehicle run out in the middle of an intersection. please with your help and persuasion, we can get nissan corporation to repair all affected vehicles. thank you *tr

My fuel level gauge indicated i had 1/4 of a tank of gas left. i stopped and filled it with 17 gallons at the local shell gas station. after filling, as i was leaving the station i noticed my fuel gauge had not moved and still displayed 1/4 of a tank. i also noticed my check engine soon light was on. i went to have it checked and a computer read out indicated a bad fuel level sensor. after a review on the internet it seemed to be a common problem with this particular vehicle. *tr

My 2005 nissan frontier service engine light is coming on and the gas gauge does not work. i have verified that this is not subject to a recall in my model vehicle but is subject to an earlier model yr recall. after filling up my gas gauge goes to empty until i have driven approx 125 mile and then it goes to three quarters of a tank. nissan is aware of the problem and has issued service bulletin # ntb07-69a for its dealers but has not chosen to fix the issue. *tr

Service engine light kept coming on with a fuel sensor message at dealership/auto parts store. now the fuel gauge isn't working. *tr

Service engine light comes on. code says it is a bad fuel sensor. it is my understanding this is a problem with nissan frontiers. *tr

2005 nissan frontier gas gauge dose not give proper, readings does not read full when tank is fill up. seems to read lower amounts after each fill up . don't want to run out of gas, must keep track of mileage. just bought truck in dec. of 08, 28,000 miles on it. *tr

Upon reaching approximately 37,000 miles on my 2005 nissan frontier my gas gauge began acting wildly and my check engine light went off to indicate i had a bad fuel sending unit. code 0463. the gauge will not register any fuel when the tank is full or when it's near empty. when the tank is half fuel the gauge seems to work. upon further research it appears that hundreds of people are having this same problem and nissan has acknowledged there is a problem via service bulletin ntb07-069a. however they have not stepped up to recall this known faulty part. this could be a safety hazard and i feel that nissan needs to do something about the defective fuel sending units they pu in my truck. it appears that most of these failures are happening near the 40k mark so nissan does not cover them under normal warranty. very convenient for them. *tr

Oddly enough my fuel gauge stopped working at 58k miles or so. now i know you think so what fix it. when i took it to the dealer they said they see all the time. so i looked online, googled nissan frontier fuel sending unit, and found literally 1000's of owners with the identical problem on dozens of message boards. so i called a few more dealers and repair shops and they said the same thing that i have read and heard; that they were fixing them all the time. so i came to the conclusion that the problem is systemic to all years since 01 for the nissan frontier and xterra (they are essentially the same vehicle- just shaped differently). anyway if you can light a fire under someone's butt over there at nissan to institute a recall i certainly would appreciate it. *tr

Common problem. fuel gauge does not work. after plenty research, i have found out that plenty frontier and xterra owners are have problem with the fuel sending units failing. stealership want $400-$500 to fix this. i do not have money for this and don't want to run out of gas again. this should be recalled. they recalled it is austraila on the nissan navara (same as a frontier), but i guess it would be too expensive for nissan to man up, and we will have to pay. *tr

Service engine light comes on whe fuel guage is low. does not go off after filling. *tr

2005 nissan frontier: apparently, many nissans are showing faulty fuel sending/level units (including my own). they cause the driver to have an nonfunctional gas gauge. due to this faulty factory part, i ran out of gas on a six lane highway during rush hour. with all the nissans on the road, i can imagine many may run out of fuel in less than safe surroundings. please do a recall!! *tr

Nissan frontiers and xterras (and maybe other similar vehicles from nissan) are having a strong recurring problem with the fuel sending unit sensor going bad and dealerships not covering this part. i have recently experienced this same failure, which has hit everyone i know with a 2005-present nissan frontier. clearly a recall needs to be done, because this is tagging many, many owners for a factory defective part/design. *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. *tr

I currently own a 2005 nissan frontier and had less than a 1/4 of a tank of gas in my fuel tank and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank but showed that the tank was empty with the warning low gas light was on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor. this vehicle is less than 3 years old with about 50k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online and i came across countless others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the xterra models, pathfinders and frontiers. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair is about $500. *tr

Service engine light comes on and i check code, code is p0463. fuel sensor problem. *tr

At 30,100 miles pulled a p0463 "fuel level sensor a" code on 2005 nissan frontier - 3yr warranty ended 6days prior to mil. entire fuel pump assy needs replacement - nissan won't honor 3yr 36,000 mile warranty. service rep at nissan dealer is aware of problems with the fuel pumps - asked me if my fuel gauge was inop before knowing the fault code. after searching the internet found many people have the same problem - there should be a recall on this issue. *tr

After filling up my truck the fuel level never took effect and this is very frustrating the dealer wont help and is too expensive to fix out of pocket. *tr

The fuel gage does not register "fuel" properly on both computer & gage every time we fill up the tank. the service engine soon light stays on constantly. when you fill up the tank, the gage goes to empty and low fuel light comes on. the computers shows a reading that says -------. eventually gage will slowly go back up to full and the miles left will show on computer. when it gets down to half to quarter full, "miles left" no longer appear and fuel stops registering on the gage. this is a 2005 nissan frontier nismo crew cab truck with only 53,000 miles. my understanding is that it is error code p0463 and that our truck needs a new fuel sending unit. apparently there are many nissan vehicles this is happening too. the cost is approximately $600 which is ridiculous on a vehicle with only 53,000. there is obviously a defect in this part and nissan should recall this part. *tr
