Problems with 2005 Nissan Frontier FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2005 Nissan Frontier starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 63 032 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2005 Nissan Frontier

2005 nissan frontier. consumer writes in regards to fuel sending unit problem. *smd the consumer stated the fuel sending unit should be replaced by nissan, regardless of what month the vehicle was manufactured. the consumer stated it was obvious the same part was used on vehicles throughout the entire manufacturing process. according to the invoice, the fuel gauge would not read full. *jb

My nissan frontier truck's "check engine soon" light appeared. the warning was dtc p0463. it corresponds with nissan's technical bulletin el07-027b, reference ntb07-069b. nissan extended the warranty to 9/24/11 and 72,000 miles or less. my vehicle's mileage is at 32,500 miles. nissan recognized that it had a problem with the fuel level sending unit. they even extended the warranty for it. unfortunately, i don't drive this vehicle much. i checked on the internet. many of the problems appeared at the 30,000 mile mark. my fuel gauge is erratic and does not show an accurate level of fuel. this problem is caused by the deterioration of the unit based on use and not time; therefore, i believe they should either recall this part or extend the warranty with either the time or mileage or unlimited. i am afraid that my fuel will run out without any warning and cause a major accident on the freeway. i am very frustrated with nissan. they don't take ownership over their problems. i personally will not purchase a nissan vehicle again. *tr

Driving on highway around 9 pm at 65 mph. the engine stopped i was able to pull off the highway and come to a safe stop. i had run out of fuel ,the fuel gauge indicated 1/8 tank of fuel left. the check engine light came on. i got fuel and drove it home. hooked the truck to a scanner code p0463 fuel level sensor circuit high input. i believe there is a recall for this same problem on other nissan vehicles. the dealer told me my truck was not covered by that recall. can you tell me if my truck is covered under any other recalls for this problem? thank you . *tr

Passing other vehicle on i-45 towards downtown at approximately 70 mph the engine experienced intermittent stalling. i was in danger to crash others with problems to get our of the high speed lines. at that moment the engine totally stalled ,. finally i was able to reach the extreme right line and pull out waiting for a complete stop. i tried to restart the engine but no help. i did not believe it but wanted be sure that no lack of fuel was the origin because i already had the problem with fuel sending unit problem which do not work properly to accurately show how much fuel is on the fuel tank. i got some extra fuel. we returned and poured the 1 gallon can , then i tried to star the engine. it cranked but no starting. i called my insurance requesting towing service . i tried two more times and after that the engine started roughly and hesitating. after 2 minutes and stabilized i decided to continue. i called my insurance company to cancel the towing service . decided to continue on i-45 but on the extreme right hand side line. i arrived home with no other issues and after parking on my driveway, shut down the engine, then i tried to restart it but nothing . only cranking good but no starting at all. finally after some like 10 seconds of cranking, the engine hesitated but started. i took it to autozone , they scanned it and gave me the codes p043 for the failed fuel sendin unit ( fuel level sensor ) and the code p0335 which is problem with the circuit or signal or sensor crankshaft. i made search to find it and today, sunday 29, after several hours, finally removed and replaced it. after this the truck starts very good as usually before the stalling experiences. cost was some like 23 dollar but the risk in what i was and exposing others has no price. is necessary to have a crash or fatal results for you to consider this a recall to protect others? *tr

My 2005 nissan frontier le 4x4 recorded a p0463 (fuel level sensor circuit high input) earlier this week. it cleared came back once, and now is constant. after filling the tank, the fuel gauge took approximately 20 minutes to register full. now my fuel gauge does not work at all- it simply displays zero fuel present in the tank. i've already ran out of fuel once this week, on the highway. i've contacted a local nissan dealership, apparently nissan has a recall (or tsb?) for certain nissan frontiers- however my particular vehicle has 133,000 miles and is thus not eligible. can you please assist? *tr

Fuel sensor & gauge malfunctioned; nissan acknowledged the defective part, but will not replace. they doubled the warranty of the part, but i fall outside the "years owned" guidelines. nonetheless, i feel nissan should repair the item for free since it's been determined to be a faulty part on many vehicles and could be a safety issue. *tr

The vehicle shut off on the hwy. this happened twice on different days. the vehicle was going at a 60-65 miles per hour speed and it shut off. i cost to the side of the hwy and turned the truck back on. *tr

I have had my 2005 nissan frontier for 3 months and the fuel sending unit has gone out. i have been researching all it has happened to many of the owners. it is not right for the nissan to place faulting parts and make the owners pay between $400 and $700 to repair it. *tr

Fuel gauge inaccuracy - nissan chose not to include model year 2005 frontiers in a voluntary safety recall campaign that was issued on 2006 and 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles (campaign id# pc 042). in the alternative, nissan extended the warranty of 2005 models from 36 to 72 months. my 2005 vehicle is now exhibiting the condition the condition wherein the fuel gage reads one quarter tank, when the tank is actually empty. this resulted in an out of fuel incident occurring on the highway, a near accident and subsequently being stranded awaiting roadside assistance. although my vehicle only has 41,000 miles - it has been 78 months since purchase and nissan is denying my request for coverage of the repair cost. had nissan rightly informed me of the condition via inclusion in the recall campaign - i would have had the defective fuel sending unit replaced immediately. instead i am being forced to cover the cost of repair for this safety defect. i therefore am requesting reimbursement for my related expenses. *tr

My gas gauge acting weird erratic. reads full when full but reach half way mark needle will drop to empty. nhtsa info says there was a recall due this but ken graff nissan of riverdale utah refuses to fix unless we pay. notice on web there are many nissan owners with same problems. *kb

A defective fuel sensor on a vehicle with less than 45k miles. the gas gauge gives improper readings and the service engine light is continuously on. *tr

Service engine soon message appeared and fuel gauge failed. code check revealed-po463 fuel level sensor failure. based on internet search most of this nissan product of various years has this problem,- a definite safety issue and nissan refuses to repair under what should be a recall in my opinion. nhtsb should require nissan to repair at no cost to owner. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. while driving approximately 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken for refueling and when the vehicle was restarted, the fuel level gauge displayed an inaccuratly low reading of fuel. the failure recurred sporadically and in addition, the contact stated that the when depressing the accelerator pedal, the pedal would intermittently become stuck in a partially open throttle position. the vehicle was not taken to have the failures diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. the failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.

I own a 2005 nissan frontier w/~91,000 miles. a few weeks ago the fuel gauge stopped working correctly. the fuel level reading varies from a low fuel warning light to full with each time the truck is restarted. the "service engine soon" warning light goes on and off with each restart. the nissan 'recall' for this problem is restricted to such a low mileage, that many vehicle owners are stuck either living with the problem or paying over $450 out of pocket to have it repaired. so much for their interest in building any brand loyalty. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan frontier, i received a recall notice at 95,000 miles for the fuel gauge not working properly, problem is they only warranty the part to 75000 miles. the issue didn't start until 90,0000 miles. *tr

I owned a nissan frontier 2005 and just lately i noticed the fuel gauge assy not working when i put full tank fuel and yet the gauge still reads zero. i received a notice from nissan that indeed there was a recall on 2005 frontier for fuel gauge failures. i brought my car to the nearest nissan repair shop and but they don't acknowledge that this is covered under the recall since my mileage is more than 90k miles and they said the recall had lapse already. i refuted that i just received the letter last week and how come it has lapsed already. but still they ask me to pay more that $400 for the repair. *tr

The fuel gauge on my 2005 nissan frontier is erratic and not correct. i have a service engine soon light on now. the code is p0463 fuel level sensor. nissan currently has a recall for 2006 frontiers and a little research on some nissan forums shows many 2005 models have the same problem. i don't have $600+ to fix my fuel gauge. i think nissan should include the 2005 frontiers in the recall. also, nissan service bulletin ntb07-069b includes the 2005 frontier. *tr

Concerning my 2005 nissan frontier 4x4 nismo. i noticed my dte (distance to empty) indicator not working properly. it read ---- and then 0. shortly after the check engine light came on. i was informed it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was not covered. i did some research online at x.nissanhelp.com and other sites. after searching, i came across many others who have experienced the exact same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a safety recall was made by nissan. according to all accounts something in the fuel system is faulty and corrodes over time. everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing in the range of 39,000 to 80,000 + miles. since this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer. why should customers have to wait for accidents and possible deaths? especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. *tr

Filled up 2005 nissan frontier with gas. after turning the truck back on the fuel gage dropped to empty. then, when i started driving the check engine light came on. it has not went off and the fuel gauge will not go back up even with a full tank of gas. *tr

On my 2005 nissan frontier truck the "service engine soon" lights comes on and the fuel gauge does not read the correct fuel level. one cannot tell how many miles are left in driving on the tank of fuel due to improper reports by the on-board computer along with the improper reading on the fuel gauge, creating a hazardous condition for travel, especially during night driving and in mountain pass conditions in winter. diagnostics indicate a faulty fuel sensor, but nissan refuses to replace as the current recall only goes to 72k miles. this problem started past 81k miles on my vehicle. it is apparent this problem is systemic and a real issue that nissan is hard-bent on not covering, if they don't have to. they told me there was nothing they would do as my truck has too many miles on it. i advised them that they should cover the issue, given its quite apparent there is a systemic problem at hand. the nissan representative told me there was nothing they could do as the recall does not extend that far out and they are not required to fix it, i believe they should be made to fix the problem. *tr

Driving home from post office in august 2010 truck would not exceed 35 mph and started to shake intensely. i got it towed to the dealer who diagnosed $9500 to fix, i was over mileage by about 1500 miles so all out of pocket. i parked it immediately due to lack of funds, much due to a $565 payment for a $30k new truck for 5plus years. nissan north america denied me any assistance, and was actually more rude than the have the least bit of empathy while i was told i did reach the top person who was the final say. many months passed and i replaced the radiator and other things, so it appeared as i saved the trans from harm by parking it but now at 98000 miles the service engine light is on coding an at brake issue while the tranny is getting jumpy and sluggish again. quick search returns a big expense and cross contamination most likely did occur and can end up costing me well over $40000 in the long run for a midsize truck that i have owned and took good care of since new and i cant even get rid of it now except for losing even more money...very unhappy as an owner of 4 nissans in my time i really expected a quality product, now i worry about when it could go, as i was recently laid off i don't have the money for repairs or another car. *tr

I refueled when my fuel gauge read 1/4, when i started the vehicle back up the gauge still only said 1/4 tank even though i had just filled up with 16 gallons. the service engine soon light also came on. after checking online there appear to be thousands of instances of the same occurrence happening to nissan frontiers, and xterras. i believe this is a manufacturing fault which needs to rectified with a recall. *tr

I purchased this vehicle pre-owned. because the vehicle was sold 'as-is', the dealer refused to fix the gas gauge concern when i discovered it was malfunctioning. as long as i set the trip odometer when i filled up with gas & i was the only one driving the vehicle, this worked fine. however, in the past year i have been having family members drive my vehicle & they don't know or forget to set the trip odometer. twice in the last year i had this vehicle run out of gas with me. the last time it ran out of gas on the i-10 bridge crossing the mississippi sound. not the best place to be at night' the tow truck driver who came to get me told me that nissan had a recall notice on the frontiers for their gas sending units. nissan elected not to repair this concern because they stated my vehicle was out of warranty. *tr

2005 nissan frontier gas gauge reads 1/4 full when the tank is empty. causes me to run out of gas when driving in traffic. i drive with a gallon of gas in truck bed, so when i run out i can get to a gas station. i have to stand on the road with traffic going by to pour the gas in when it runs out, it's very dangerous to run out of gas when the gauge indicates there is gas in the tank. nissan recalled 2006 to 2008 frontiers but not 2005. i asked nissan due to the production year 2005 and identical problem on the 2005, compared to the 2006- 2008 recall, to please repair they replied no, its not part of the recall . how do i hold nissan responsible for issuing a defective product. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. the contact stated that while driving the fuel gauge would indicate that there was. the dealer was informed about the failure and stated that the vehicle needed a new fuel sending unit. there was no warranty due to the high mileage. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 74000. the current mileage was 77800.

I was driving my 2005 nissan frontier and the vehicle ran out of gas while traveling on the roadway even though the gauges indicated 1/4 of a tank of gas remaining. i was nearly rear ended by another vehicle traveling behind me. fortunately i was on a roadway with a travel speed of 35mph and not on a major highway. i had to push my vehicle to the roadside and call for assistance from a family member. i contacted the dealer to find that the vehicle is know to have a failure of the fuel level sending unit. i was told they have recalled 2006-2010 models of the nissan frontier but the 2005 model using the same part was not. i had to pay the dealer an 89.95 diagnostic fee to confirm what they already told me and then pay 470.00 additional in part and labor fees. nissan consumer affairs was unresponsive and denies they have a problem with the 2005 model even though i presented them with a factory service bulletin i obtained that clearly identifies the problem for the 2005 model year and tells the dealer what to do, what to replace and allows them to claim for reimbursement for the part from nissan. service bulletin ntb07-069b part affected fuel level sending unit # 25060-zz00a. *tr

Fuel gauge sensor problem with nissan frontier 2005, fuel gauge evap. leak p0455 code. both need to be fixed because there is a safety issue with the leak and sensor. *tr

05 nismo frontier, i had a ticking noise while driving. my engine light was on with a catalytic converter code, gas gage was intermittent. took it to the dealer. had to replace the fuel sending unit, get a new catalytic converter and have my driveline replace because it was blown. the truck had 94k when i took it in for repairs. i am currently trying to find a possible coolant leak. i can smell it but can't find where it is coming from. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. after adding gasoline to the fuel tank the contact noticed that the fuel indicator did not function and the check engine light had appeared on the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was 60000 and the failure mileage was 58000.

2005 nissan frontier crew cab le model. fuel sending unit is defective. fuel gauge does not read properly and does not indicate actual fuel level which has caused a stall due to lack of fuel when the gauge reads 1/4 tank. after learning of a recall for this problem, a search of my vin number revealed that nissan did not include my vehicle in the recall even though it is for the same issue that caused the recall. *tr

Regardless of much fuel is in the tank the fuel gauge on my 2005 nissan frontier (38000 miles) shows less than empty and the service engine light is on. *tr

Service engine soon light comes on at 1/4 tank of gas. code is 0463 faulty fuel level sensor. apparently this is a problem with nissans and have had previous recalls for this on older models. mine is 2005 nissan frontier and i understand it costs between $400 to $600 to fix. have not had the money to fix it yet. *tr

Nissan fuel sending unit in 2005 nissan frontier is faulty. *tr

We own a 2005 nissan frontier le king cab. our gas hand does not work and the service engine soon light is constantly on. this is our third nissan king cab with this problem. apparently it is not covered under warranty and is quite expensive to fix. i feel there should be a recall. if we do not get warranty help with this problem, it will be the last nissan for us. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan frontier. while driving 40 mph, the fuel gauge displayed that the vehicle was empty. the dealer was contacted and stated that there were no related recalls. the dealer confirmed that a faulty fuel level sensor caused the fuel gauge to display the incorrect amount of fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 60,400. updated 8/2/10 *cn updated 08/09/10*jb

2005 nissan frontier crew cab. after filling the gas tank, the gage was reading 1/4 tank. over the course of the day the gage increased till it read nearly full. also, when the gage nears 1/4 tank, it will suddenly drop from 1/4 tank to dead empty with indicator light. *tr

2005 nissan frontier fuel sending unit failure when gas gage reached 1/2 tank the gauge failed to 0 with empty light on, service engine soon light came on and dte calculator went to --------- (58,576 miles) problem goes away when tank is refilled to more than 1/2 tank and reads normal, after about 90 miles service engine soon light goes out. *tr

Fuel level sensor in my 2005 nissan frontier is a chronic manufacturers problem that can cause the vehicle to stall unexpectedly. several models of nissan truck's have this problem and the operator will not know how much fuel they have. *tr

The fuel gauge on my nissan frontier 2005 model gives a incorrect reading and the service engine light comes on making it impossible to pass emission in the state of tennessee in order to receive paperwork to get registration and tags. sometimes the problem corrects itself but it takes days maybe weeks. and the only way to keep up with how much fuel is inside the tank is to try to keep up the how many miles you have driven. how can you have a recall on 2006 models that have the same problem but not on 2005. it should be corrected by nissan regardless of what model. *tr

Gasoline gauge not working properly in my 2005 nissan frontier truck. every time i fuel up, the gas gauge is "stuck" at low and rises to the full mark about 3 days later and check engine light is always on because of the malfunctioning gas gauge. nissan has offered 5yr/70,000 comprehensive warranty, but my truck is over 70k. *tr

Have a 2005 nissan frontier with approx. 62,000 miles. went to fill the gas tank and when done noticed the gauge did not go up at all. also the engine light went on. as i drove the gauge slowly went up to full and the dte reading adjusted to the approximate mileage to empty. eventually the check engine light went off after driving for a few days. filled the tank again and the same thing happened. checked on line and seen that alot of people are having the same problem. have not contacted the dealer yet. *tr

Service eng light comes on due to high fuel sensor. also fuel gauge goes to less than e and the low fuel light comes on. *tr

The fuel gauge and sending unit are defective both have been replaced by nissan twice and both continue to fail on a weakly basis running out of fuel on the interstate wile the gauge reads a half tank nissan refuses to fix since the truck is now out of warranty. *tr

1. when i fill my ,2005 nissan frontier xe ,up with gas or it is to low on gas my fuel gauge will not function properly. the same problem with the 2006 model. 2. the failure is with my fuel sending unit. it occurs all the time. it prohibits me from reading my gas level. 3. nothing has been done by nissan to correct the problem. the part i need to fix it cannot be purchased through the dealer because they say the unit is on restriction due to the recall on the 2006 model. this same part is covered in the 2006 recall but not for the 2005 model and no one can answer why. *tr

2005 nissan frontier has a known fuel gauge issue. there is a recall on 2006+ frontiers that have the same exact part. the fuel sending unit attached to the gas tank is known to go bad, and is covered by nissan under the recall, which doesn't include the problematic 2005 models out there. see nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000. the result is that the gas gauge and computer estimates of "distance until empty" are grossly erroneous and require constant monitoring of the range. *tr

Took 2005 nissan frontier to fill up gas. filled up and gas gauge went crazy which triggered service engine soon light which means i fail my emissions, now i have to spend 600 to repair, 300 for car tags, 50 for emissions test, happy birthday to me. *tr

Fuel tank level gauge not working properly, and service engine soon light on. the problem seems to be the fuel sending unit/sensor. i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. vehicles that are experiencing this problem are: 2005-2007 frontiers, xterras, and pathfinders. there should be a recall on this issue with so many others having this same problem. this could be a safety issue not knowing the correct level of fuel in your vehicle. someone could run out of gas on the highway and put their live or someone else's in jeopardy. this problem seems to be happening around approx. 39,000 to 50,000 mileage on odometer. *tr

Service engine light came on stating: code p0463 (fuel level sensor malfunction) problem just started. has not been corrected

Fuel sending unit for the 2005 nissan frontier should have been included in the latest nissan recall of 2006-2009 models. there are countless people with this truck who have the same problem as the recall problem, yet that model year is not included by nissan.

2005 nissan frontier. a defective leaking fuel pump sprayed gas all over the under carriage of the truck causing a fire hazard. *tr
