Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Nissan Altima

Sporadically when starting car (from a cold start or after 2 hours) the rpms will do the normal going up then slowly down and then lower once in gear; however, once started to drive and stop the car will shake and appear to be trying to choke....took to service dept could not duplicate the problem and nothing is in the log.....took to dealership while problem occurring the mechanic felt the shaking and the big bump and said the idle rpms needed to be changed to higher level within 36 hours the car would do the same sporadic problem just at a higher rpm......took it to dealership again left overnight they did not find a problem stated everything is normal and the salesperson demo supposedly does the same thing (which it started normal). *tr

They fix my passager airbag but my driver side came on. and my car engine sound loud went u drive it. sound like a muffler sound but i don't have a hold on it.

I had purchased a new 2013 nissan altima from bommarito nissan on 11/6/2012 my car only had 252 miles on it. when i had taken the acre back to the dealer for a oil change that's when i was notified that they will have to order parts for my car for the fuel ratio sensor and ecu with new updates since this was made the car has being running horrible and when the car was taken to the dealer they stated that the car has all the updates and this is how it supposed to run so they could not duplicate the concern. i did research and see that others have the same problem. nissan does not want to pay for another diagnostic that i would have to pay for it. this car is carp and if i wanted a used car i would have bought one without any power because the car seem to loose power you have to turn off air to get speed and punch your foot into the floor to get power and its idled to high as if it is not getin any gas i would like this issue to looked into because there is a problem on hand and others have the same problem and nissan is not wanting to fix these problems. *tr

Woke up yesterday to a weak battery no start steering wont lock.so it has to be towed cvt transmission went out already ,it was replaced ,air bag for [passenger} sometimes works its the 2nd new car i ever owned and im 54 years old im so disappointed at this car it must have been built on a friday.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, he heard a winding noise. after opening the hood, he heard a loud whistling noise emitting from the engine. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the noise was normal. the manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 200.

When i drive my car in the city, sometimes it will goes "numb", in other words doesn't response to my commands when speed is 30mph+rpm is 2k or speed is 20mph+rpm is 1.5k.(only at these two unique combination, e.g. is the speed is 30mph+rph is 1.5k, the issue will not occur). either applying gas or brake doesn't work as i when my car is functioning normally. the duration of this "numb" issue is usually abt 10-15 min, and often happens when i use my car from cold start.(but that usually happens after a warm-up of 5min and being on the road for abt 10-15min). when the issue happens, i feel like something is controlling my car instead of me and my car doesnt listen to me, e.g. my car was going downhill smoothly and all of a sudden it goes numb, i was trying to make the speed lower than 30 mph but wasn't able to, luckily it finally slow down when i applied a hard brake that make the vehicle almost stopped. the operation and safety issue annoys me. sometimes it gave me sudden pause on the road(20-30 mph speed). i have took my car to dealership 4 times since june 2013, my transmission system got reprogrammed 2 times. 12/30/2013, i was driving on the high way and the brake light came on, after that my car started operating weird (feels like lack of power). took my car to dealership the next day and got transmission reprogrammed, plus some parts changed (i don't know what they exactly changed). almost everyday, i experience my car goes "numb" out of nowhere, and had to live with it being unable to control my car when it happens because nissan blames the "cold" weather in california and my sensitivity in driving. *tr

Altima 2.5l eng. problem: engine vibrations/cvt shuttering since approx. 3600 miles, but has continually gotten worse with more miles (7000 mi 12/31/13). vibrations felt at 1500-2000 rpms (enough to shake and vibrate the dash components), then vibration goes away. slight acceleration under load at 1500-2000 rpms and at any speed (20-30, 40-55, 72 mph) will result in droning/vibrations (everytime). had nissan service mgr. ride with me, then he drove the vehicle and confirmed the vibrations. he said to return the vehicle in jan 2014 to further document this problem that nissan does not admit exists. however, this problem has been reported to nissan many times over this past year (2013). i now believe this vibration is coming from the engine and not from the cvt since i can feel vibrations 1500-2000 rpm even when the vehicle is stopped (in park or in neutral). update: 1/08/14 nissan dealer replaced engine alternator, problem still exists, no change in vibrations. 1/10/14 nissan replaced tensioner and engine serpentine belt, problem still exists, no change in vibrations. 1/13/14 filed complaint with nissan consumer affairs. *tr

Turning right from a stop and as i was accelerating, had violent thunk and vibration in car with loss if acceleration for 1-2 seconds. before and after that, consistently experience vibration/shudder and decreased acceleration at about 20mph when i let off the gas or don't continue with same level of acceleration. *tr

Transmission is locking up at any speed while coasting or decelerating, feels like motor and transmission is going to come right out of it. on way back to dealership, it happened at 55mph going around a bend, and front tires locked up and chirped, this was the worse one, if this happened on snow covered roads, there's no doubt that i would have went right into the ditch..we've only had the car 3weeks and put less than 1500 miles on it.the car started doing this 3 days ago, today took it to dealership, took serviceman on test drive and within a 1/4 mile, he had seen enough, what is wrong with these cvt transmissions, this is a very dangerous situation when a transmission locks up at highway speeds!!! *tr

I have a bad rattle coming from the right side of my car along with a whine noise coming from the same area. also have a very bad vibration/rattle in the car that seems to be from the transmission at acceleration from a start and acceleration while switching lanes on a city street. you can coast and press the gas again and then the whole car rattles. it has been in to a nissan dealership and they said they can feel it but don't know where or what is causing it. also headlights give very very poor visibility when driving at night and when raining at night.

I have a new 2013 nissan altima sl v6 i have had several problems with this new car. blind side warning, and traction control light stayed on one time. my car wouldn't start up several times after walking up to the car and pressing the button on the door. the key wouldn't unlock the doors, it wouldn't auto start the car. i had to wait to get in my car, i actually had to stick my key in the door to get in the car. when i did finally get in the car and try to start it nothing happened, it said no key this is dangerous i am a female god forbids somebody tries to rape or kill me and i am not able to get away in my new car that i pay all this money for every month. the dashboard says: key not detected or no key, or incorrect key id. my car has been in and out of the shop and they still doesn't know what's wrong. i've recently went to a different dealer hoping they can work on my car and get me the results i'm looking for... i completely hate this car because it has been n the shop more times than my last car. all they kept saying was more computer problems. i got my car 12/2012 and my car has been in the shop over 20 times with lots of issues. i'm still within my 36000 warranty. i also hear a clicking noise in the front tire. dealership replaced some bolts and greased it as well. they said it needed grease.. the noise has came back about 2 weeks later!! its time consuming to keep going back to the dealership to get repairs!! but i have to do it. i had the recall for air bags but it still didn't register an adult who sat in the front seat who weighed about 103 lbs. so his air bag wouldn't deploy if we got in an accident. that isn't safe at all.. pls fix and change that feature for the sake of smaller adults. nissan shouldn't restrict the weight of a front seat passenger.. all these problems.... i will be opening up a lemon law case!! this is ridiculous!!!! *tr

I was driving a brand-new, nissan altima rental car on a business trip. after i returned to my hotel one afternoon, i forgot to turn the engine off. this vehicle has a key fob and a "start/stop" button only. there is no metal key. after i exited the vehicle, i noticed that the horn did not honk when i locked the vehicle with the key fob. the trunk release did not automatically open when i used the key fob. i manually pressed a button under the trunk lid to retrieve my bag. the next morning, i noticed steam and water coming out of the exhaust tailpipes. (it was app. 34 degrees that morning.) i discovered that the engine was still running, and the car used app. 3/8s of a tank of gasoline overnight. my concern is that a car like this could be driven into a garage with the engine left on, and then the occupants of the residence could get carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust fumes. this vehicle needs some time of warning bell, chime, etc. to remind the driver that the engine is still running if they open the driver's side door and/or exit the vehicle. thank-you. *tr

When sitting the front passenger seat passenger air bag off sign comes out and randomly disappear, appear repeatedly. sit the very properly by owner' manual it comes out. it means passenger air bag is off sign on it will not inflate in a crash. i'm very scary drive this car with someone who sit the passenger seat. although sitting on the seat properly and using the seat belt properly it doesn't matters because the passenger air bag off light always illuminate. it is very dangerous in a crash. i really want to know need air bag for what??? nissan already recalls some car same issues. i bring my car nissan dealer, they do nothing and say"this is normal" and have same problems my car's vin# not include the recalls so they don't fix or replace anything. it is ridiculous. also altima has weird winning high pitch noise all the time and drive low rpm to change to high rpm makes very loud rumbling knocking noise.it seems like a drive belt and tensioner problems. dealer say that it is normal. dealer always say "it is normal". if my warranty is finish they say that it is problems. i really want to solutions. *tr

I purchased this car on 3/8/2013 as brand new with 24 miles on it. 7 days later when starting up the motor the engine struggled to catch or start running. this has happened 3 times now. will be contacting nissan. this is unacceptable for having a week old "new" car. still waiting for response from dealership. *tr

So i have been hearing a whining sound coming from the engine compartment of my car at low speeds. i took it in and the dealership told me it was a normal power steering noise. and said there was nothing they could do, i brought it back a week later after i found out the next day that their is a nissan technical bulletin on this. and they had it for a few days with my other concerns and returned it to me saying that my car did not qualify for the repair. why is this? it is making intolerable noises and yet they do not fix it? to this day i am still getting these noises and have read that the steering pump has failed on other 2013 nissan altimas. there needs to be a recall! *tr

My vehicle which appears to have multiple defects is now hesitating on start up and has occurred on several occasions. when i press the engine button, the car just keeps cranking and sometimes, barely or struggling to start. every now and then, i noticed that there's also a single clicking sound which seems to come from the engine compartment and a drumming/slapping noise when applying the brakes. the vehicle makes to many disturbing noises that nissan for some reason can't seem to identify other than the sounds being normal. *tr

Cvt transmission shutter, while driving from stop to go, car felt it was going to stall, like when turning left in traffic. *tr

Well the main selling point on this vehicle is that the dealer told me they were top in mpg's with 27 city and 38 highway. after a week or so i noticed that my mpg average is no more than 23.1. and that was with more than 50% travel on highways with no traffic(never went under the speed limit). i figured it had something to do with it being new and it would average out better later. so after 5,000 miles on the car i took it in and they told me that this is just because every driver averages different and i kept saying but i am not even getting close to the 27 city and i drive more highway. but they told me that everything is normal and they reset the average calculator. after a week it was worse than it was before and i was bringing it back for my many other problems i have with this car. they had my car for 4 days and finally told me that while they had it a check engine light came on saying that my air fuel ratio sensor was faulty. they replaced it and told me that was the fix. i have put about a tanks worth of mileage on it since and i am getting under 23 mpg still. either something is very wrong with my car or nissan is lying about the mpg's and yes i get that they are presented by the epa but nissan does the test first then sends it to the epa and then the epa tests later on. either way the mpg's are wrong and i drive to try to get the best mpg's i don't even go over 2,000 rpm's unless going up hill. which brings me to the vibration from the trans. but that's in another complaint. nissan needs to fix this problem because i chose this over the honda accord just for the mpg's. *tr

Purchased brand new with 2 miles. at 4500 miles, heat gauge indicated an increase in engine temperature. drove 2 miles to a service station, and upon opening the hood, anti-freeze was sprayed everywhere. car was towed to dealer. dealer inspected, and said the radiator had leaked, so the dealer replaced the radiator. after replacement, the dealer performed a test drive, when the check engine light came on. dealer performed pressure tests, and said the engine would need replacement. *tr

When starting the car the starter would keep cranking after the release of the start button, the passenger air bag light stays on sometimes even when a passenger is in the seat also the rear seat belts are very hard to lock in do to the receiver end pushes down into the seat when driving there is a few problems the low end rattles and shakes and 45 and above there is a wining noise from the engine compartment that sounds like a bad alt bearing or trans problem it gets louder the faster you go very annoying with today technology these problems and this is just a few is a big step back for nissan not a happy customer just broke 6000 miles. *tr

Safety concern, proper operation of air bags (srs light on). this is a major safety concern. one month after purchasing a brand new nissan altima 2013, a major light indicator came on. this light brought up concerns. are the air bags working properly? will the air bags deploy correctly upon impact? are the air bags working at all? will the air bags deploy while driving? will the air bags implode and affect the steering process? is this an indication that there is an electronic or electrical circuit malfunction? after buying a brand new vehicle, should i even have to deal with these issues, questions or concerns? in addition to the above safety concern, the list of electronic, electrical and mechanical issues continues for the newly bought vehicle. there was an issue with the power steering, the brake system, bubbling paint and concerns with the engine compartment and interior compartment of the above mentioned vehicle. all this is reflected in each of the invoices submitted for your perusal. in addition, upon starting the vehicle, it continuously has a rough idle, a rough start at times the vehicle stalls out. he is at a loss because who should he take his vehicle with this concern? all in all, sir all these vehicle discrepancies are troubling to have with a brand new nissan altima 2013 and all of these issues within the last nine months. also, there were problems with the power steering, the brake system and concerns with the engine and interior compartments. in addition, upon starting the vehicle, it continuously had a rough idle, a rough start at all times and the vehicle would stall.

Noticed car shaking violently while coasting at about 17 mph and then accelerating. contacted dealership. was told that it is a defect with the torque converter that causes it to shift between gears at about 28 mph. i told them that mine was happening at about 17 or 18 mph. was told they were looking into it. called again about a week later, was told that it was a design flaw and nissan was not going to do anything about it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle also vibrated violently. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 17,000.

I purchased a 2013 nissan altima 2.5 s in july of 2012 with 349 miles on it. i have had numerous problems and have returned the vehicle on several occasions for repair and have yet to find a solution to the problem. in the mean time they are only getting worse. the first problem occurred 2 weeks after i purchased it. i got in my car and applied the brake and pushed the button to start the car and the car hesitated, it was almost like the starter had hung up. i wasn't too worried at first and figure it was just a one time fluke, but it wasn't. nearly five days later it occurred again and atleast one or twice a week there after. after 4 weeks and it having done it about 4 times by then i made and appointment to have it service and a few days later i noticed 2 new noise problems. i was driving with window down one day and heard a loud chiming or jingling noise coming from what sounded like the front driver tire.it pretty much sounded to be a loose nut or screw jingling around somewhere. then a few days after that's when the brakes started squealing. and it was terrible and very loud, like nails on chalkboard and very embarrassing. so when i bring it to be serviced they tell me that the issue i had when started could not be duplicated and that the brakes where cleaned and the rotors where shaved down and also that they put no squeal on. and for the issue with the jingling noise was that a screw was loose and rattling around on the engine cover. but when i drove the next day the brakes started squealing again so once more 2 weeks later i return it again.and they tell me they have to shave the rear rotors this time. when i leave this time the squealing does not return for 2 weeks. so once more i return it this time they tell me that dirt is caked under my brake pads and all i can do is pretty much pressure wash them every day. that's not quality! *tr

When turning my car cut off a few different times and you can hear a pop noise when turning coming from the right tire,i took may car to nissan i was advised that they couldn't find a code and didn't no why it cut off, and didn't hear the noise, or feel the slack in the steering wheel, my car was there at 7996 miles and out at 7996 miles which means no one test drove the car to even try to see what was going on they did a so called diagnostic which the check engine light didn't even come on. and i was told they drove my car to see what i was talking about. 4 months later it do the same thing but being that they didn't do what they said the first time i didn't take it back. in 12/14 it did it again while getting on and off the freeway and coming to a stop took it to nissan and was told i needed a air filter which was changed 2 oil changes before this happened. took it home and it cut off many more times, now 4/15 it did it again but worse sitting in traffic it cut off and everytime i start it and put in drive it cut of but will go in reverse and it jerk really bad, and when it do go its hesitate and when smashing on the gas it takes a long time to go then takes off when it decides to. i contacted nissan consumer affairs and was advised they were going to call to where i take my car to 3 days later i get a call back and was advised to call nissan and go have a diagnostic, like it was set up. when i asked for the name i was giving that consumer affairs was talking to she didn't have a clue to what i was talking about, when i called the lady i been talking to at consumer affairs i didn't get a answer nor a call back. but im sure they will not find anything wrong with my car due to no one will drive it to see what it do. im scared to drive my car due to it may stop and someone can hit me or being that when smashing on the gas it take off when it want ...

On aug. 10th we recd an email from the empire nissan fleet mngr [xxx]. he stated that they needed to have the car back and would pay our first mth pymt and give us a replacement car of like kind and quality. they would not tell us why the veh needed to be returned. we notified corp nissan consumer affairs dept and they contacted empire nissan. they finally advise that the reason they need the veh back was because there was an open campaign on it with a single recall. we agreed to return it for the repair. we took the veh back to nissan and later on that day, we were notified there were 10 recalls found on the veh! at this point we realized that was why they wanted to swap the veh. they agreed to give us a rental car during repairs. we picked up the veh & as soon as we left, there was a constant buzzing noise coming from the car, there was a lot of road noise and whistling from the windows, the engine was loud. we called the gm [xxx] & ask them to buy the veh back & they told us that we were asking too much and that we are acting like we are the victim. we also called the svs mgr, [xxx] to make have the veh serviced again. he was rude and said he didn't want to get in the middle of this with the manufacture & to not bring the veh in to them for svs & they will not be providing a loaner nor a rental for us. he stated he would have an engineer come out to look at the veh to determine the cond. we have heard nothing. nissan has been evasive and has not been honest with us. knowing that veh had several mechanical issues, they allowed us to cont to drive this veh and put us in danger with no regards to our safety. just a day ago we saw on the news there are now two more recalls on our veh. now a total of 12 recalls on a brand new car! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

1. when you fill the gas tank up you can hear fuel sloshing around and knocking against the tank. 2. brakes squeal and grind 3. engine is noisy and growls car shakes 4. air bag recall 5. gas mileage is not as advertised 6. console has been repaired multiple times. *tr

I bought a new 2013 altima 2.5 sl on 7/26/12, with 104 miles on it since it was delivered from another dealer. on 7/29/12 a warning light came on and the owner's manual said that possibly the gas cap was not tight. this was not the case. manual said that if the light was not flashing, then it would clear after a few trips. it did not clear, so i drove 25 miles to dealer 8/3/12 for them to test. they said it was a bad catalytic converter and would be replaced the next day. the following day, the service manager called and said that when they removed the converter that its contents spilled on the shop floor; and that their contacts with nissan was that this had happened on others and thus the engine had been ruined and that nissan would replace the engine. i stated that i did not want a replaced engine because of all of the required disassembly and reassembly involved, especially with a car only a few days old and having driven only approximately 160 miles. i had paid for a new car and wanted a completely new car as a replacement. i have filed a case with nissan, but so far they have done nothing but say that they are reviewing the situation. the selling dealer has been very cooperative, said that they agree with me and have stated that they have also contacted nissan on my behalf and requested that a new replacement be provided. since nissan has seen this situation on more than one occasion, they were aware that they had faulty catalytic converters and that catastrophic failure was the result. these are not cars with several thousand miles use and several months old; but rather mine was less than a week old. nissan should not give the buying customers the run-a-round, but do the proper thing and replace the cars with new ones like we paid for. i was under the impression that they sold quality products and had a reputation for good customer service. *tr
