On average, the 2008 Nissan Altima starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 89 628 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2008 Nissan Altima

While driving my car, it started to make "grinding" movements and stopped moving while i was driving. i was lucky that i didn't crash. i'm filing this complaint because of the various problems i've had with this cvt transmission -- including wheezing noises and shifting problems and now complete transmission failure. called nissan they refuse to help because my car has 132k miles and their extended warranty only goes to 120k. i've only had this car for 5 years. it's only 8 years old. they instituted this extended warranty due to so many complaining about the problems with the cvt. but i'm over the warranty and now i'm on the hook for 4k in transmission repair. i feel this is unfair as i have maintained my vehicle.

Glue is bleeding thru the dash on my 2008 nissan altima. it is causing a glare on the windshield that makes it hard to see, so bad that i have to lean over to find a spot that does not affect my vision of the traffic in front of or coming towards me. this is a road hazard and left unattended will eventually cause a wreck. i also have a couple of other problems, the front seats are loose and slid when i had to slam on my brakesfeel and i am not at all comfortable that if i had an accident that this would attribute to additional injury. also, i have had the low tire scensor replaced at my own expense to only have it come back on at which time i found out this was a known problem with this year model, would have been nice had the dealership told me there was nothing wrong, instead of taking my money. i have researched and found that all three of the problems i have are known problems that have been repeatedly reported to nissan only to be told they are not recalls and are extremely high in cost out of pocket. i have been complaining to them for two years to no avail. they sent me to a dealer in town at one point who reiterated to me verbatim what i was told by them online after he gave the dash a quick look. i live in louisiana, i travel to texas several times a year. that is when the problem with the dash started. no way to clean, it is one big sticky mess and only getting worse. i bought the vehicle, they were happy to take my money, the least they could do is fix known problems. toyota recalled one of their vehicles with the same bleeding glue dash problem. nissan should be as forthcoming with their customers, won't buy another, will seriously affect the resale value of this one. shame on nissan! my formal complaint signed, sealed and delivered!

The factory sound system face plate is blistering. this may be caused by radio overheat or some type of short. the radio works fine

2008 nissan altima with a melting dashboard. visibility is blinding by glare from shiny dashboard. cost to replace dash is almost $2000.

My local service garage has located 2 holes in my exhaust system that allows fumes into the passenger compartment. the holes are a weld points. my mechanic thought that there was a warrenty recall. we repaired it once and will have to replace the whole exhaust this time.

My dash became shiny and sticky over a very short period of time. i first tried soap and water and then goobegone. and nothing would help it. it looks as if it is melting. it is parked in the garage most of the time. the shinyness is reflecting on the windshield at times and makes it very dangerous to drive because i can't see through it very well.

The dashboard in my nissan altima 2008 is melting, cracking and very sticky with a bright shining glare that makes it very difficult to see.

Another melting dashboard; this time in north alabama. it's starting from what i've seen in pictures the normal starting places, which is at the defrost air vents, the ledge between the instrument panel and defrost air vents (where the dash appears as a two piece comes together) and right above the three air vents. the glare it creates on my windshield is unbearable, and making visibility very poor.

Dash board is melting and cracking now falling apart

The dashboard of my vehicle is melting and causing a glare on the windshield that makes it hard to see especially in direct sunlight. this has been an issue in my vehicle for years. there has already been a lawsuit that was settled in florida where i previously lived but nothing was sent out to inform drivers of this. the time frame for that settlement has now passed and i have moved to another state.

I have noticed that my dashboard is melting. there has not been any cleaning substance put on the dashboard. my car sits out in the sun as i do not have garage or carport. the glare from the dashboard creates a hazard as there is a glare while your are driving. *tr

My nissan altima has the dashboard melting which makes it visible thru the windshield which makes it more difficult to drive the vehicle. i've almost had 4 near car accidents where the melting dashboard was the issue.

When driving vehicle i hear a loud whining noise when accelerating at b all times. and when i put the car into neutral the whining drivetrain noise from transmission goes away. i also hear a rattling noise from center exhaust at idol and notice catalytic converter pipe has rusted out near engine flex pipe.

Dashboard melting. danger reflection from melting shine.

The dashboard is melting and a sticky substance is causing a serious glare that obscures the visibility through the windshield. the melting dashboard is spreading due to sun slight exposure and heat. the defective dash boards has been reported widely by many auto owners and should be recalled for replacement due to faulty engineering and resulting is visibility glare/obstruction.

Dashboard is cracking. car has always been garage kept since new. never sets outside during daytime in sun. many other owners have same issue. nissan denies there's any problem, won't do anything to help to fix the problem. costs about $2000 to replace the dash. happening mostly with 2008 & 2009 model years.

Upon my daughter arriving after a 300 mile drive, i see an excessive amount of chemical/glue?? seeping from her front dashboard. its as if dashboard is melting. in turn the melted dashboard reflect a huge amount of sunlight up to windshield which in turn causes light blindness while driving not to mention possible toxicity issues. very unsafe driving condition and environmentally harmful. nissan corp. should be made to remedy this for life and health issues.

2008 nissan altima coupe 2.5s - dashboard is melting, to a point that the reflection of it on the glass is affecting by almost 90% my visibility. putting myself, my four years old daughter, and other (pedestrians) at risk.

Recently, i faced a near death experience driving my nissan altima. i was heading back to kc from columbia. it was windy morning at 3 am on 70 w and suddenly my car's cruise control light started blinking, and my car started to lose its acceleration (while in motion on highway 70).with a double trailer truck behind my car a few other trucks lined behind it, my car lost acceleration and it fell under 40 miles in a few dreadful seconds on a national highway. my car continuously wiggled as it kept dropping speed with a whistling sound from the engine on the passenger side. as i pray to god to save me, it struck my mind to turn on the parking lights, the truck driver was quick to realize something was wrong with a car ahead of him and changed lanes and sped away and so did the others. i decided to keep driving until i reach safety. my car's speed dropped to 40 miles an hour as my heartbeat went up. with another 20 miles to an exit, i was praying and all of a sudden my car started accelerating again. i was not sure if i should hit the brakes and be stranded or take a chance and drive until i reach safety. my gas mileage fell rapidly, it went down from 100 miles remaining to 40 miles as i checked. as a miracle, my car started to respond after driving for not sure how long but it started to accelerate. i was both glad and terrified that my car is responding and with big fear that it may fail again. i maintained a uniform speed until i took an exit on the highway. my car started to lose its acceleration again, after running over a light in a failing car as i prayed with tens of cars on the road behind me, i reached a gas station and confident that none of my friends or family will find me dead on a highway. i will never ever trust my car again. after diagnostics at a nissan service center, i found that a transmission failure was the root cause

The dashboard on this car is melting and crumbling apart. in early 2012 it started getting shiny at the edges on the vents openings next to the windshield. it has developed into a sticky, semi-liquid, very shiny, soft rubber like substance that sticks to anything put on top of it and comes off as a black residue when separated. the dashboard also developed fine fracture lines that have since created deep ridges all along the part, its crumbling, and pieces of the black outer material are just falling apart, revealing a foam material beneath. the cracking, crumbling effect covers the whole dashboard, not just the section that is exposed to sunlight. the shiny sections of the dashboard reflect sunlight into the windshield, creating a blinding pattern in the windshield that prevents good visibility. in sunny days it is really prominent and blinding, which is a constant in south florida. this is a serious safety hazard and could provoke an accident due to poor visibility. this problem started showing in early 2012 and has evolved since into a crumbling, melting, sticky, shiny dashboard. in hot days when the car is parked it smells like molten plastic. the chemical fumes from this decaying material can't be good to human health, these are most probably toxic.

Dashboard melting. it is extremely difficult to see the pedestrian, road, vehicles due to glare on the windshield when the sunlight reflects from the dashboard. the glare impairs the vision and we had many near miss incidents that could have cost lives, property damage. we request recall considering the safety of all on the road.

Daily driven 2008 nissan altima in south florida. vehicle dash has melted causing the dash to be sticky and reflecting a massive glare on windshield making it very difficult to drive. entire dash has started to crack and pieces falling off due to poor quality of dash. defogger for windshield has been affected do to the structure of the dash changing and becoming stick. extremely dangerous when driving and do not see any current recalls for the car or dash.

Dashboard is melting which is causing severe visibility issues. i am having to lean out of the way in order to see out of the windshield, and i try to avoid being in my car as i am severely concerned for my safety as it is progressively becoming worse

Dash melting and splitting.

I recently began to notice that the dashboard has been melting. there are several sections that are melting and have become sticky. it affects my visibility during the day to drive the car because of the glare reflected on the front wind shield. i have attached pictures of the damage.

The dashboard is melting, cracking and crumbling. the melting has created a sheen that reflects on the windshield causing visibility to be severely impaired. the dash is very sticky to the touch. further, the melting is causing a toxic chemical odor and what appears to be possible fume deposits on the inside of the front windshield. these are both clearly safety hazards that need to be immediately addressed by nissan. the exterior paint is failing as well. it is fading, peeling and the clear coat has degraded on much of the vehicle resulting in continued degradation.

My 2008 nissan altima 2.5sl dashboard melting and cracking, not safe to drive in the sunlight because it will shine on windshield.

My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is completely deteriorating. the dashboard seems to be sticky and disgusting. it looks like it's completely melting off due to the melting it makes it difficult to drive since it is shiny and the glare hits the windshield it makes it difficult and dangerous to drive. i've been reading articles and many people are having the same issue i think that should be recalled and fixed.

Dash board is melting... causing extreme glare while driving.

Melting sticky dash causes glare while driving and makes it difficult to see traffic light change, glare is worse during summer florida weather. dealer claims they have never seen anything like it and offered no resolution even though it seems to be a common complaint. i try to keep my car covered or out of sun when not in use, left it at the dealer for unrelated service (3 days). they must've had it sitting out in the sun because the melting spread, also looks like they attempted to clean it because there was white residue left on the dash!

08 nissan altima coupe that i purchased new in south florida february 08 that i've owned since has a melted, sticky, and cracked dashboard. also, the dash is changing colors. the defective and melted dashboard makes it dangerous to drive because the sun reflects on the dashboard making it very hard to see out of the windshield. as referenced in the class action lawsuit tracy sanborn v. nissan north america, inc. my car should be covered. i spoke with a rep at 1-800-nissan-1 and they claimed to have no idea this existing. i have opened my case and will hopefully get it fixed soon.

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is gooey, very shiny and causes a glaring image of the dash to project onto the windshield obstructing the view of the road. if touched, it feels like an adhesive object and has a chemical smell on hot days. this glaring image is continually projected onto the windshield making the car a safety issue to the driver and others on the road.

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is melting and the glare when driving is making it impossible to see clearly. driving this vehicle during the day is extremely dangerous due to the glare from the melting dashboard. this should be recalled and fixed by nissan, it is clearly a manufacturing defect due to the material used for the dashboard. my teenage son drives this car, and he is now afraid to drive it because the viability is so poor now. it gets worse as time goes on. nissan needs to take responsibility for the defect and replace the dashboards before someone is hurt or worse due to lack of viability.

Dash is melting. i have complained to nissan consumer affairs and they state they are not replacing the dash. it is sticky and shiny and causes reflection in windshield. i have seen lots of complaints on the internet for the same problem with nissan 2008 altima. nissan will not repair without a recall.

I need a new transmission at 126,000 miles! car began making noise as if it was stuck in a gear, it became sluggish as i was trying to accelerate, the car would not accelerate. drove it to sheehy nissan a few days later and was told that i would have to call consumer affairs because i was outside the extended warranty of 120,000. my mileage was 126,000. received call from sheehy service specialist leo saying that it would be fixed free of charge. the next day received another call from service specialist and was told that it was not approved by consumer affairs for repair. i called consumer affairs and was told that i would receive a call on friday, sept. 18 from nissan's regional specialist, quinashay, that more information was being gathered from sheehy nissan. received call from quinashay saying that there was nothing nisan could do for me because i was outside the extended warranty period! this is my third nissan purchase from nissan stanza to a couple of nissan altimas, always upgrading. i've been a loyal nissan customer and for what! never thought i would be treated this way.

It seems like nissan altima dashboard is melting and now it became sticky and shiny.while driving in direct sun it creates a glare on the windshield and hard to see the road condition.it is a major safety concern for a driver.this is happening may be nissan used a low quality material for the dash.this needs to be recalled and fixed by nissan.

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is melting away and has left behind a very sticky and shiny surface that emits a very strong vision impairing glare onto the windshield. due to this glare, i have had almost a number of near miss accident situations since this issue begun in 2012-13. the glare impacts your visibly, adding more distraction and limits response time when aggressive or phone distracted drives suddenly swerve or pull out in front of you as you try to avoid an accident. apart from the glare, the dashboard is emitting a very strong chemical like odor which makes me concerned for my overall health. i don't believe it is healthy for any driver/passenger to have to be breathing in the toxic particles from the materials and glue of which the part is made of. my other concern in this situation is the impact the defected melting dashboard has on the release of the passenger airbag in the event of a crash. the dashboard upon touch is very guey, sticky, and smears or comes-off when pressed. the manufacturer has refused to replace this part and has quoted $2,000 for part replacement. this is not only a very costly item, but also unfair to the owner who can't afford the repair and has to jeopardize their safety because of manufacturers negligence by supplying defective part. i try to avoid driving this vehicle unless it is necessary out of concern for my safety.

I live in central florida and own a 2008 nissan altima coupe. my dashboard began to reflect a real bad glare while my husband drives. he is the primary driver as i am not. he has complained about it as well but it is evident that he sees the glare as i see it as well. come to find out i have a melting dashboard per nissan auto technicians. it is gooey, sticky, and causes such a bad glare that we only drive in early morning or late early evening when the sun is not so extreme. the nissan service department stated to file a complaint to nissan corporate office since they have been replacing these at no cost for other vehicles. i placed a complaint with nissan corporate as i was advised. i received a phone call from them on 8/28/15, stating that they will not replace the dashboard for the following reasons: outside of warranty, no current recalls & campaigns, no service contract, no extensions history of service of the vehicle and other factors. what does that mean? there is not definitive answer. when i asked to give specific they said they did. mind you, i service my car and all maintenance has been done on the vehicle either by my husband and son (who is a mechanic), nissan service department or tire plus. i think this is absurd! we can cause a huge accident one day for a product default by nissan engineers. my husband has tried to avoid many accidents from this glare from the dashboard as the sun in florida hits hard on a black dashboard especially. i am filing this complaint to have the nhtsa get involved in enforcing nissan and any other vehicle manufacturing companies that are facing this issue to recall this defective product. this can cause many accidents and speaking from experience, we have avoided several ones thus far. we have been lucky thus far but i can't predict the future of what will happen tomorrow if this defect doesn't get corrected by nissan.

My 2008 nissan altima's dashboard is sticky and melting. the sticky residue reflects in the windshield causing a glare when driving during the daytime. in my opinion the melting dashboard is a safety defect and should be recalled.

My 2008 nissan altima coupe's dash is melting causing a glare on the windshield when driving into the sun. the glare is distracting and obscures my vision. the car was purchased new in 2008, it has approx. 80,000 miles, is kept in the garage after daytime work hours. the melting began this summer.

I notice my dashboard is cracking and soft and sticky. i see a lot of complaints about the same issue from other owners and feel this may be unsafe especially when if the airbags deploy. i am sure tests were done when the dashboard is fine but was airbags testing done with sticky, soft, cracking dashboards, probably not.

The dash is melting and causes a very bad glare on the windshield whether driving or parked going into the sun.it is so bad you can barely see the road in front of you.this is truly a safety issue.

The dashboard on my 2008 altima 2.5s has completely melted. it is sticky, discolored, and cannot be cleaned due to the stickiness. nissan will not fix this as the vehicle is outside of its warranty. replacement dash runs over $1200 just for parts. i know it's only a matter of time before the glare from the melting gets worse and i crash because i can't see. ridiculous.

2008 nissan altima dashboard "melting". majority of dashboard now looks shinny and appears to have a liquid shine to it, which causes blind spots during driving due to the reflective nature of the "melted" dash. cannot touch, clean, or wipe the dash as the surface is similar to tacky glue. nothing has been sprayed on the dash to cause this issue, this is just the heat building up internally and the design of the dashboard material being substandard.

The dash board is melting. there is a sticky substance coming form the dash board that causes a significant glare from the sun. i contacted nissan consumer affairs and filed a complaint reagrding my dashy board (complaint #19437322) and a representative named "marisol" advised me that nissan would not be replacing or repairing my dash board at not expense to me. thsi is an obvious manufacturers defect and may owners of the 2008 nissan are experasincing teh same unsafe conditions associated with the dash board melting.

The dashboard is deteriorating and has become very shiny. this creates glare on sunny days which degrades visibility to the point of being a safety concern. as evidenced by a class action suit it florida, this issue is pervasive for this model. toyota has already recalled their cars for a similar issue.

The dashboard is melting and cracking, creating a glare on the inside of the windshield that is danger to all.

Takata recall my dashboard is melting. it has become very sticky and causes a severe glare across the span of my windshield. this is making it extremely difficult to see out of my windshield and it is very distracting.i have noticed the glare for months, but as time passes it is becoming more difficult to see clearly. i am concerned that the limited visibility will hinder my ability to drive safely.

The dash board has turned into a sticky mess, it can't be cleaned and is causing a dangerous glare on the wind shield.
