Problems with 2018 Jeep Wrangler UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 5 801 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2018 Jeep Wrangler

The jeep begins to shake and eventually wobble at highway speeds. the onset is quickly and does not typically go away without drastic reduction in speed. it has happened 4 times in the pat week. i have a video showing the event but am unable to upload. it starts with a small shaking and then increases in intensity to a rocking of the vehicle with steering stability issues.

While driving at hwy speeds and hitting a bump in the road the front right of the jeep start to wobble violently. the only way to stop it is to slow down to 35-40 mpr. this is very dangerous to do in the middle of the hwy. initially felt like a flat tire. i brought it to the dealership and they can not replicate the wobble and checked "everything" this happened at high speeds, 5 people in the car and dog in the bag. i am disappointed that there is not a fix for this especially in a new model jl. i purchased brand new in june and have made no modification to the jeep.if someone was to panic during this event it could be life threatening.

During highway driving, between 70-75 mph, when i hit a defect in the road, the car will begin to shake violently. sometimes it stops when i decelerate, but other times, i have to pull off on to the shoulder. my jeep was leased in august 2018. i first noticed the shaking in november. i have alerted my dealership's service department.

I have been experiencing the jeep death wobble when i drive my jeep on the freeway. it is very frightening, i have to whip knuckle the steering wheel to keep the car in the lane and not swerve out of the lane. the shake is so violent it feels like the tires are going to fall off. i have brought my jeep in twice already. i do not feel safe in it and am very concerned that jeep is not addressing this issue.

Vehicle hits small bump in road (happens while on side streets and highways) and steering wheel/tires begin to shake violently. must slow vehicle significantly to stop shaking. feels as though i have a flat tire or a tire is about to come loose.

Death wobble

When driving our new 2018 jeep wrangler jl sport, that has not been modified, we have experienced on numerous occasions what is come to be known as the death wobble. it began around the 5,000 mile range. this happens when we hit a pothole, expansion joint or quite honestly any abnormality in the road and the speed of the vehicle can be anywhere from 40 mph or higher. just recently i was going 65 mph on a major highway and clipped a pothole and it felt like my jeep was going to fall apart. the only way to stop the wobble is to apply the brakes. when on a major highway going with the flow of traffic at 65 mph the dangers are tremendous in having to do this. our jeep is no longer safe to drive.

While driving on the highway, going around a bend at 65 miles an hour, the jeep started shaking so violently i had to pull over to the side of the road. it felt like the jeep was going to fall apart right under me. it stopped shaking when i slowed down to around 35 miles. it was toed to a dealership. it only has 3100 miles & 4 months old. dealership said they found nothing wrong. it has not happened since but still afraid it will happen again and cause an accident.

Excessive vibration on the driver side of the vehicle when hitting the smallest of bumps. does not necessarily need to be at high rate of speed. started about 2 weeks ago while driving down the highway at 70 miles ph. do not recall hitting any bump. brought in to dealership 11/16 - they could not duplicate and found nothing wrong. only has 10k miles. has occurred 4 times in total.

Drove into the gas station, put my jeep in park, put the emergency break on, turned it off and proceeded to fill up the tank, i did not top the tank off, got back in my jeep started it back up, engine started fine, released emergency break put jeep in drive put foot on gas to proceed out of the gas station jeep pulled out of the gas bay and i drove forward slowly, while turning left out of the bay. i drove forward with my foot on the gas about 20 feet. all of a sudden the jeep came to a stop and shut off while still in drive. i would press on the gas pedal to move forward and nothing would happen it just remained stationary.. all electronics still worked in the car. i put the car in park, turned on my hazards turned the jeep off and then back on, and engine was not starting. turned it on and off 3 more times and finally the engine started back up on the 4th time and i was able to drive away. this has not occurred again, but i have not driven it other than 20 miles back home where it now is sitting waiting to go to the jeep dealership.

There is a strong smell of coolant coming from the ac vents . one day we saw a puff of white smoke come out of the ac vent . after that we took it to the dealer and they said they replaced the heater core . the strong smell of coolant is still present in the vents . the smell is always there but gets stronger at times , so strong we need to roll the windows down.

My 2018 jeep wrangler jl experienced the jeep "death wobble" on the freeway at speeds above 60 mph after running over minor pavement imperfections. the wobble was so severe each time i had to pull off the freeway onto the berm and come to a complete standstill for the wobble to stop. the wobble occurred four times in three days. i purchased the vehicle on 03/30/2018. the death wobble manifested in early october, 2018. i took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection within a week. the only problem discovered was the tires were all out of balance. the dealer balanced the tires. today is november 20. so far, the death wobble has not reoccurred.

Whith only 6,ooo miles on my wrangler i noticed some slight shimmying while driving on the main roads then when i got on the expressway i had just reached about 65mph and my jeep started shaking uncontrollably which forced me to pull over and call a tow truck. it took almost two months for the part to come in ( stearing damper) and 2 tries for the dealership to fix the problem. i have had it back one week .

Heater cores on the 2018 wrangler jl have coolant leaks spraying toxic aresolized coolant into the cabin when heat is in use. i am a member of the wrangler jl forums and many owners are reporting this - https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/ooo-ooo-that-smell.16580/. jeep egolf in brevard, nc verified my leak and completed a heater core replacement this month. fiat chrysler corporate has been involved in this complaint and there is a case # 572-46-618 on record. action must be taken to make sure there aren't drivers out there inhaling this during driving which could lead to headache and nausea, potentially affecting driver safety and judgement.

Frame welds are pitted, rusting, incomplete, and have numerous inclusions and porosity. this is all over the frame. included is a picture of a weld on a body mount. appears to be cracked. the dealership where we bought the vehicle and jeep both looked at the vehicle and say it is safe and normal.

While in motion at up to 50 mph, on city streets, esc warning light and contact dealer message lit up on dashboard. steering requires numerous corrections to stay on path in lane.

Jeep has bad welds throughout the frame posing significant safety risk not only while driving the vehicle but even more so in the event of a crash. a large majority of bad welds are in structural areas. some are off seam, porose welds, welds that appear to have little to no penetration, weld joints with little to no weld material in the joint and off seam. also many of the welds show sines of heavy contamination in the weld material.*dt*jb

I got behind the wheel of a 2018 jeep wrangler, adjusted my seat for optimal comfort, visibility, and hands / feet position for safe operation of the vehicle and then noticed that the design / position of the dash obstructed the view of the speedometer and tachometer (among other info) while the vehicle is in motion (i was not in motion). this obviously can cause issues with safe operation. i posted this observation in a jeep wrangler forum to see if i'm the only person with this problem. as of today the poll sits at 53% of users having the same issue. see here: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/poll-in-your-best-seating-position-is-your-view-of-the-wranglers-dash-gauges-cut-off-in-any-way.15958/#post-390053

Hello.this is regarding my 2018 jeep wrangler jl rubicon. i have been reading extensively about the frame welding recall (issued 10/5/18) that unfortunately does include my vehicle. we spent over fifty five thousand dollars on this jeep, and are extremely disappointed in the build quality. just to make sure that the welds are bad, i looked under the jeep and several extremely important welds (some involving the steering bracket) were not done properly, and will fail. also, some of the welds have several pocks in them and will develop rust. if a weld isn't done properly (or repaired) properly, it will fail and that for fca to release a vehicle, in this condition to the general public is disgusting. i have a wife and a baby on the way' my wife no longer feels safe in our new jeep. i am writing you to voice my concern and warn others about this unsafe vehicle. we no longer drive the jeep and it sits in our driveway. i cannot drive a vehicle that may fail structurally and injure or kill us.

Extreme wobble and shaking at highway speeds which continues well past the road imperfections that caused the specific type of suspension travel. started under 1000 miles. happens several times every workday - can be replicated. this vehicle is completely stock and brand new. if driving around a slight turn with small bumps the vehicle starts shaking violently and keeps shaking for 20-30 seconds until the traveling speed is reduced to 50 mph which is not a safe speed at times. 2 steady hands must be on the steering wheel to maintain control and changing lanes is not possible. had to make an avoidance maneuver during the shaking and almost lost control while traveling 60 mph. this car is not safe to operate and the problem happens multiple times per day. unknown components and parts cause the extreme shaking/wobbling. this statement is to document the problem; there will be videos and repair invoices in the future but several dealerships have told me there are no fixes for the problem called death wobble. i am currently on a "waiting list" for a repair attempt. i will call for an update with the dealership 11/30/18. the tires are stock and at proper pressure. there have been no modifications to the vehicle.

While this vehicle was parked in a parking lot, and off it exploded into flames. .. *bf consumer stated car was parked around 9pm and noticed the fire around 3:00am, so about 6 hours. police and fire crew concluded that the fire started from faulty wiring. updated 10/30/18*jb *dt*jb

Unacceptable welds on frame. many with porosity and spatter.*dt the consumer no longer owns the vehicle. the vehicle was sold as a buyback for unresolved steering failures. *js

After running my 2018 jeep wrangler sahara unlimited jl for a short time, i would shut the car off then when restarted five minutes later, i would smell "maple syrup". constant problem when car heated up to running temp. fan box emitted smell. took car to dealer. dealer said possible pin hole leak so they replaced the heater coil. when finished they said they could see residue where it had been leaking. i can occasionally smell this still after two months.

Jeep frame welds have a lot of porosity and slag. many of the welds all over the frame do not appear to be complete and look unsafe. nothing has been done to the jeep and was this way from the factory. very concerned about crash safety strength and longevity if welds start to rust and deteriorate.

About a week and half ago i got in my vehicle and turned the vehicle on (still in park) when i received two warning/service alerts. first was, "service electronic stability control", and second, "stop/start unavailable service stop/start system". fyi, the vehicle has only been in my possession for a few months, something like this shouldn't happen. i have attached the images of the warnings.

There are several locations on the frame of my vehicle with poor welds. the bead is not uniform, penetration is poor, and there is some porosity.

Frame has terrible welds, porosity along frame weld lines, rusting already along weld lines, seemingly missing welds, welds that won't go deep enough to retain structural integrity when reported to fca, they stood behind the integrity of the welds, and the dealership that performed the inspection noted that the welds 'looked fine because they looked just like the welds on a vehicle that had just been delivered'. professional welders have noticed that it seems not enough shielding gas was utilized during the initial weld process, which weakens the integrity of the weld and opens it up to premature rusting and potential failure.

I have a 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon with frame welds that exhibit excessive porosity and in some cases, off location. i have visited two separate dealers a total of three different times. the third time was a charm and the service advisor agreed that the frame welds were not "in spec" according to fca's star bulletin s1813000001. i was told that direction would have to be given from fca on what to do and that the advisor didn't know that the welds could be properly repaired. it has now been more than 3 weeks since i have heard anything. i don't even know if my new jeep is safe to drive at this point. in addition to the dealerships, i have been contacted jeep cares and mike manley's office with no resolution. i honestly don't know where to go.

There has been a major recall related to the track bar welds on the jl model wranglers and when i search my vin it is not included but many of the welds on my frame are rusting already and appear to be "bad" welds. i am a professional welder and i know what a good weld looks like. please help me address the issue with the many "bad" welds on my brand new jeep.

2018 jeep wrangler jlu sport. the ac/heater is outputting a strange moldy smell that smells like rotting shoes. this happens every time the vehicle is started and stationary and again approximately every 30 minutes of driving. this is a big issue for me as i am allergic to molds. jeep seems to be blowing off the issue and refuses to do much about it.

2018 jeep wrangler jlu sport. during driving at 75mph, cold air was found coming out of glove box seams. opened glovebox and cold air is pouring out. this is when the heater is on. jeep doesn't seem to want to do anything about it.

The welds on the rear suspension are horrible. there are large pieces of slag wherever there are welds. there are already places where some slag has fallen off and spots have started to rust. the entire frame has slag on it and huge messy welds. there are welds missing along the frame. the frame was dented and hit with something before being installed. all of these things can lead to weakening in the metal or failure in the welds.

My rear glass imploded while the jeep was parked in my driveway. i was 30 feet away heard a pop, turned around and saw the glass all over the driveway. there was no evidence of anything hitting the glass. the temperature was in 75 degrees. it appears to be a manufacturing defect.

Vehicle's front end shakes uncontrollably when you hit a bump at high speeds. you almost have to stop in order to stop the shaking. it has been occurring continuously since i got the car. jeep has ordered parts for the alleged remedy, but they are on backorder - which means a lot of this is going on.

Welds on 2018 jeep wrangler jlu sport frame are bad in many ways. problems include: -incomplete weld if track bar weld which could cause failure and loss of steering control -porous welds - many of the welds are porous -lack of penetration -overweld aka weld drip -nearly 90% of the welds have weld slag that was not cleaned off before painting. resulting in parts of the weld not being painted and prone to rust and eventual faulure -there is also a great deal of weld spray that should have been cleaned off -there are also welds that were not completed...for instance there is one on each side in the rear where they only welded half of the tubing that should have received a complete weld around its circumference. welds were examined by prestige jeep and a district rep who said their were fine however this was not a certified welding inspector. case was brought to the attention of jeep cares/jeep waves who looked over some 160 photos i sent of the welds at which point they said this isn't a concern. irregardless of the safety issues...at minimum there should be paint on the welds on my frame. the safety issues themselves are frightening as one other owner of the same vehicle has already had his track bar bracket break off while driving down the freeway. he is lucky to be alive. i have many photos that i am happy to send in however, your site only allows 5. this jeep is 3 weeks old at the time of these photos and has seen rain 4 times. as you can see in the pictures there are holes and porosity in these welds. the copper spots on the welds are slag that should have been cleaned off before paint as paint will not adhere strongly to slag and when the slag falls off it will leave the welds uncovered. jeep is refusing to take care of the issue and i am now searching for a certified welding inspector to examine before bring it to the associated press

Rear camera intermittently fails to turn on and display when car is put into reverse and driving in reverse. jeep dealership says this issue is not reported and no known solution exists. leaving the jeep off for several hours resolves the issue. the issue seems to be related to a software problem but does not resolve with a "reset" of the electronic information system. multiple users have reported the exact issue in on-line jeep forums.

As i was exiting the highway i noticed that flames were coming out of the jeep. i merged two lanes over to try to turn on a side street and lost control of the steering. i put the jeep in park, turned it off, and exited the vehicle. we ran up a near by hill, turned around and the entire jeep was engulfed with flames. it burned for an hour. it is a complete loss. *tt *dt*jb

While the defrost was on heat, and with cold teperatures outside, the windshield cracked on its own

Sent to tower in plymouth mi to weld jeep frames that robot was not welding correctly. told to just cover them up and they will just paint frames. told they have to meet their production numbers. i would not drive or want anyone else to drive one of these.*dt*jb

On 2/9/18, flew from boston to pick up purchase of new 2018 all-purple, 2-door 40k jeep at canandaigua ny jeep dealership. (none available in mass.) upon delivery on lot, driver door would not close completely. salesman roberts stated to us that all jeeps are quirky; doors must be slammed to close. during 400-mile highway drive home, door ajar light came on and had to re-close door repeatedly during drive. reported problem to (absentee) owners harry/scott kesel, chrysler corporate steve stander, and 1-800-jeep rep d. pittman; also brought car to kelly jeep service (lynnfield, ma). all jeep reps told me that jeep cabins are airtight when closed, causing door problem. this doesn't happen if you skip the driver side and enter on the passenger side. jeep reps told me to live with problem - no repair necessary, and instructed me to: enter car driver's side, turn on ignition; power down window; re-open door; slam again. due to impending danger, this car hasn't been driven since purchase and is at service dept. for 35 days, mileage: 400. i do not want my daughters driving this jeep for obvious safety reasons and to prevent them from being targeted in a dark parking lot because of this noticeable diversion to attempt to close the door. no factory or zone area manager has inspected, nor has canandaigua dealer owner, who practiced other false and deceptive sales tactics on me. dealership owner scott kesel will not take back the car or compensate loss of $6,000 for a trade-in. he blames jeep factory; jeep blames dealership. both claim that the other party is responsible. chrysler corporate rep said corporate doesn't speak to or influence dealer owner's response to customers -- hands off. dealer said he'll do what ever chrysler directs him to do. i am paying for a car that i don't have and can't use.

I purchased vehicle in feb 2018. within the first week or two started having problems. a coworker purchased a 2018 jeep cherokee. she returned it in two months because it would not start. another coworker's girlfriend purchased a 2018 rubicon with engine light problems, starting issues, and radio not working. my vehicle history: rear defroster sensor on back window does not stay secured. 4th return to dealer. second window to be replaced. panel light for rear window defroster continues to light, but sensor is not connected. have been on wait list since march 2019 for new window to arrive. it appears the sensor cord is too short to reach window when raising. death wobble has happened 3x while in motion on highway and has been at the dealership 3x for this issue. vehicle does not correct itself while driving and it feels like the vehicle is coming apart. had to continue driving on the highway, slowing down did not correct the problem, until i reached a safe place to pull over. once coming to a complete stop, it corrected itself. the jeep looses total control and i am afraid something may come apart causing injury or death. freedom tops had rattle inside of them with huge wind noise when in motion. problem corrected when dealership switched out freedom tops. now the freedom top is too big for freedom bag. the bag appears to be coming apart when zipped. drove to store and got out of the vehicle. tried to remote lock the vehicle, which failed. tried to start jeep, it would not start. followed instructions on panel to use key by placing close to remote start button. after a second try it started. radio playing two stations at one time. back camera would not work. key fob replaced as it was falling apart. armrest replaced, would not connect when enclosed in holder. all began in 2/2018. date i am about to enter below is for the wobble.
